i do think there are valid complaints about how unbalanced the tricolor matches are. i was on team paper and i could tell that scissors were getting unfairly hammered. there’s a difference between giving us an advantage to catch up vs giving us the easiest shot at winning the whole thing
but i don’t think the mode is completely nonviable. i lost multiple matches to red because they kept either A.) inking our spawn, forcing us to stay behind to keep our home turf covered instead of covering middle/going for the ultra signal, or B.) someone with a well-practiced brush or splatterscope constantly killed us on a level akin to spawn camping. there were matches so bad that my friend and i wondered if there was some kind of intentional plan behind screwing over yellow so much. most tricolor games i participated in involved nobody getting the ultra signal even once
does it need balancing? yes. is it completely unfair? maybe i’m biased, but i don’t think that’s the case. the team behind splatoon seems to be good at listening to its players (finally being able to queue for regular games with squads is such a godsend, was the only big negative thing i remember from splat2n), so i think reworks are definitely possible, even most likely, in the future of the game
