No but I'm extremely emotional about Nimona. 7ish years ago, my friend got the graphic novel at a book fair and lent it to me. I read it in one sitting during homeroom. I was barely out, had no idea I would even have a gender journey a few years later, just a baby queer just starting out with a newly made art account and a crush on the friend who lent me the book. It changed my life. Made me feel seen and inspired in a way nothing had before. It sparked my love of comics and made me want to make something as beautiful and queer and powerful as it one day. Every chance I got for the rest of middle and high school I would borrow the library copy to reread and study it.

Back then, I had no idea anyone else even knew it existed. It was near and dear to my heart, but I never talked about it because it was so obscure. Always called it my favorite book of all time, but no one knew what it was. And it didn't help that I live in the midwest and no one wanted to read a comic about gay knights and a murderous shapeshifter.

Cut to 7 years later. The movie comes out, message of queer joy stronger than ever, right as I'm embracing my nonbinary identity. It's trending at #1 on tumblr. My fanart for it is one of my most popular posts in months. I can't go 5 seconds without seeing an outpouring of love for this obscure little graphic novel that changed my life in middle school.

And I finally own my own copy.

Sorry that took so long, I was a bit preoccupied with farming for Rizzley (Wriothesley in Genshin Impact) I'm just drinking some Tea and watching Nimona for probably the 50th time lol Sooo… here you go: Part 4 (again: GIF for attention)

Bal waking up, noticing the blanket, looking around, seeing the tea and candles (completely ignoring the hilt of the morning star behind te cup) and just sighing kind of content as if he wakes up like this often is just precious and supptly highlights his relationship with Amb and I just kind of love it, I guess

also Bal being awake and alert right away even tho he was just about to relax cause he prob thought he's with Amb and all is good and stuff is also kind of competent again

I will not go into much detail about the contents of the muderwall here, but damn, the really didn't need to go that hard on those details

One thing I'm gonna cram in here tho cause I just saw the portrait of the queen: I recently read somewhere that they wanted to get Dr. Blitzmeyer (I hope I remember her name correctly lol) in the movie but ultimately scrapped her buuut they kept the design/color scheme for the queen and I just… Blitzmeyer helped and supported Comic!Bal, the queen helped and supported Movie!Bal (even if it's a bit of a different relationship, I guess) and that's kinda cute ngl. I kinda missed Dr. Blitzmeyer, she was my fav character in the comic and I was a bit sad that she didn't make it into the movie

Bals face (and probably the camera movement) when he remembers what happened when they broke out of the institute reminds me of some anime protag who goes a bit insane, but I can't remember a particular anime I feel remembered of

Bal always the knight, trying to get his sword when he feels threatened, even tho he doesn't even have it on him

the hand gesture to "Meatball" lol and also: very nice line delivery by Chloe Grace Moretz, she's also a big part of why I liked the character of Nimona (even tho I also like her design and personality, without a good VA a character can be not that likeable, if you know what I mean)

Bals brain just overheated and he decided to just roll with it and ask

She's Nimona. (one of my fav lines ever and I love that she get's to say that in at least one other scene)

I have a feeling that Bals answer to "I'm Nimona." ("That is not an answer.") is maybe something trans/genderfluid people get more than me (and def shouldn't cause why do they need to even get that? Why can't everyone just accept stuff like that?)

also him not asking something about her but why she's helping him is kinda neat, I think he felt that that maybe would be a bit to much in Nimonas personal space atm

Bals eyes widen for just a second when Nim answers him and he remembers what situation he is in is kinda sad (btw. much of this movie wouldn't worked for me if they weren't so damn much animated/if they wouldn't be so much little details in the gestures, mannerisms and whatnot of the people)

Love how Nim wants to say kill him and stops herself when Bal turns towards her, without a doubt with a look on his face that says: Noooooo, bad shapeshifter

His reaction to "Let's got get him. You and me." is priceless lol

Bals hesitation (and probably inner monolouge) is kinda fun to see but also very undertandable, I mean: he knows her how long now? And even tho he redeems himself fast enough, here he is very much and very heavy still under the brain washing of the Institute and knows now that Nim is not human, so I kinda understand why he's so hesitant but he's desperate and she can (and will) voluntarily help him

Nim just rubbing salt in the wound, cause she knows exactly that he doesn't have much of a choice

He clearly wondered how she got there so fast and I love these kind of little reactions throughout the movie, they show how vigilant the character are and it feels even more real, cause let's be honest: if you're talking to someone who is like 10 steps away, you blink and then they are right before you, you'd also not gloss over that without so much as a second glance, would you?

the shark transformation is just nice: the fluidity, the sound effect, Nims look, the lighting, the fact that you probably didn't really expect it, just *chefs kiss*

her "I'm not a girl, I'm a shark." is also very iconic, even tho it's used just one time in the movie; still one of the best lines ngl also her face when she says "But I'm not a girl." and the lil bite animation and sound is very nice

"Hey. You ever put your head in the mouth of one of these?", that line delivery and the animation for that and Bal already being done with the convo lol

"Should've just stayed in jail." lol

Ok so I started watching Nimona with @theonewithallthefixations and we had lots of thoughts and we’ve decided to write them down. I probably don’t remember everything, and this will likely be disorganized, so bear with me, but:

Todd, the dude with a punchable face, is Groose pre-redemption. Many of Todd’s actions, mannerisms, etc. we now project upon Groose

To me specifically (Fixa hasn’t read the stormlight archive), ambrosius and ballister remind of adolin and kaladin respectively.

One is a respected descendant of the honored family and is basically destined to be a leading fighter, the golden boy, black/blond hair, fashionable (idk if ambrosius picks his own outfits like ado does but either way it looks good)

the other is not even close to royalty, had a rough childhood, but managed to gain power and respect anyway, generally broody, dark hair and eyes, all that.

Of course the main difference between the pairs is that when Kaladin is made to be a criminal, adolin sits it out with him; but when Bal is framed an assassin, Ambrosius helps hunt him down, but of course kal just criticized a lighteyes and was immediately imprisoned while bal “killed” the queen and was able to run away, so that situation’s not really comparable.

Anyway

Nimona feels like legend mostly in that snarky and stubborn pink bunny who likes the destruction of public property and is willing to murder

“Arm chopping is not a love language!” Both nimona and ambro say this (technically ambro never says this out loud, but he wants to, and that counts) and based on this (and other things, but this is what sparked it), the two are likely very similar.  It seems like Bal has always been the broody type, so both probably had to force him to hang out with them; Ambro would probably be very chaotic if he were not essentially a prince (idk if Gloreth was actually royalty, or just highly respected, but either way he’s got a lot of influence due to his relation); there might be other things

When Ambro and Bal get married, they can adopt Nim and it will be great.

How old is Nim? Would they even need to adopt her? I mean, technically, you can adopt adults, it’s just a lot more ceremonial, then actually promising to provide for a person’s needs, but they could still adopt her, even if she was an adult. I don’t think she is, but I don’t really know.

oh! More potential things w Ambro and Nim: we think she may be either The monster from the beginning, sequence or be related to it. If she’s a descendent, then her story would mirror Ambro’s, with him, being destined for greatness and heroism to do to his ancestry, and her being destined to terrorize and hurt people

Additionally, it seems like neither are happy with their current situation as influenced by their ancestry. Ambro says (thinks) that he never asked to be related to Gloreth, and while Nim clearly lives her abilities, she is sad to be made a villain

We found Ambro’s last name to be amusing: Goldenloin. That will surely make their wedding night interesting

what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have? Grim was originally a self-insert I made in February of 2020 when I first finished The Clone Wars. She was literally just how I imagined myself in Star Wars at the time and didn't even have her name yet I gave her my name at the time. When I shared her online I changed her name to my alias at the time and she continued to mostly be a self-insert. Over the years I have fleshed out and developed her character to where she isn't like me anymore. Of course, we still share my similarities because she's always meant to be a self-insert of sorts but now she's her own character. In a somewhat poetic way as Grim evolved into her own unique original character, I found out new things about myself and also grew away from who I was when I first created her. Also fun fact: Grim didn't have a last name until 2022.

is there anything you don’t like to write? Smut or anything NSFW. I'm not comfortable with writing it.

is there anything you really enjoy writing? Hurt/Comfort! As much as I love writing straight angst, I have too much of that going around in my real life right now (and for the last 4 years tbh) so I really enjoy writing comfort after something happened or just comforting things in general. I also love writing fluffier & happier things despite the fact most things I write tend to lean into angst or hurt/comfort.

how do you come up with headcanons?  They mostly just come to me. A lot of headcanons with Grim also tend to be based off of myself, because as I mentioned earlier she was originally a self-insert and even though she's more of her own character now outside of me, her roots as a self-insert are still around and important to me.

do you write in silence or do you play music? I've gotten into the habit of writing in silence, although I used to listen to music. Mostly I write in silence because when I was working on The Clone Wars Gets A New Victim which is Grim's story during The Clone Wars, I had to rewatch The Clone Wars constantly to make sure I was writing things accurately, and I couldn't do that while listening to music. It took me 2 years to finish that story so it just stuck with me now. Although I do occasionally still listen to music when I write.

do you plan your replies or wing them? I wing them. I wing pretty much everything in all of my writing unless I have a complete idea for where I'm going (and even then I tend to end up winging it).
