Remembering when someone said that the Beifong twins have no personality and just I'm baffled?
Like, underdeveloped side characters? Yeah, sure.
Little to no screentime with no time to establish themselves as characters? Absolutely
Brushed aside in favour of more important characters? Definetly
No personality? Absolutely not???
In the very few scenes we have focusing on the twins we get a good grasp on who they are as characters. Their attachment and fierce loyalty to their family, their competitiveness and other traits. They're very entertaining and Marcus Toji did a really good job voicing them and making them enjoyable.
Like I'm not gonna pretend that they're the most established and developed characters out there but calling them no personality is pretty far.
#idk like i love the twins and while they didn't have a lot of screentime the scenes that actually focused on them were pretty telling#genuinely might just make a full post on the twins in the show and why i love them#for some reason that rubbed me the wrong way#wing & wei#wing and wei#wei beifong#wing beifong#legend of korra#tlok#avatar#beifong brainrot

hi hi!
is it just me or have i just grown bored of the new x-men 97 show? its just the same all over again with the 90s cartoon, just a few elements changed and ANNOYING cameos. like ffs these cameos are such beloved characters and they sideline them so much.
im a huge polaris fan and the injustice she gets done in TV is just idk-
i dont want lorna to be treated as a side character anymore, she deserves to be a main character for once, especially in the mcu. Its so hard finding people out there who like lorna. they always ask "who is that?“ "oh is that the green wanda?“ or something like that.
in wolverine and the x-men she was just potrayed as this naive little girl. and just deserved so much more screentime.
currently just disliking how they choose to ignore lorna as if she isnt a big part of magnetos story.
Thats all, i would love to hear your thoughts on this <33
I'm responding to your inbox as I read it, so I might say something and then find out you talked about it or it doesn't apply when I get to the next part.
Honestly, I have enough experience now with Marvelthink (since 2009) that I know when they're hyping up a 90s connection like this, it means it's going to be mired in too much nostalgia. So I didn't plan on watching X-Men 97 even before it was announced. That doesn't mean they couldn't have swayed me to change my mind and watch it - I originally avoided Wolverine and the X-Men for overemphasizing Wolverine but came around to it because of good work for Lorna - but I expected bad things and they've proven me right so far.
Lorna's in a better position overall today than she was when I found out about her. It might not seem like it, but more people do know she exists. And before Wanda became more popular and gained more awareness, the more common derogatory comparison was "Magneto with boobs."
I was alright with WatXM. Mainly because a) it was an AU version of her that was younger (I think even younger than when she was introduced in the comics), and b) it hit on the most important character moments and developments for her. She was part of Genosha, she's a survivor of the genocide, she's also Magneto's daughter alongside the twins, etc. I feel she would've had really good development in the seasons to follow if they had happened.
Comparing that to X-Men 97, which is so obsessed with nostalgia and regressive attitudes (even while claiming the mantle of progressive) that they refuse to respect Lorna's character and development beyond that framework. Beau DeMayo and his people on the show made it very clear that they see Lorna primarily as a supporting character for Havok on X-Factor. Which is quite frankly also mired in sexism even if they tell themselves they can't be sexist, "I treated this other female character well so I can't be sexist," etc.
Another person I chatted with elsewhere mentioned that since Beau DeMayo was fired before the cartoon started airing, maybe the new showrunner will fix the damage Beau did and do things right. It's a possibility, but I only see it really working out if the cartoon acknowledges Lorna as a survivor of the Genoshan genocide by middle of season 2 AND gives that story a lot more space than it would've had if they had simply acknowledged it in season 1. My comparison point is Barb from Stranger Things. The Stranger Things showrunners didn't realize how much people would care about Barb, and committed to giving her more respect in the second season.
Overall, I think X-Men 97 is run by people who have their heads stuck in the past, willing to exploit newer material like the Genoshan genocide to get more buzz but not actually respect its weight and dimensions in any truly substantial way.
Which, on that note, another common thing people often say to try to defend shit like what X-Men 97 pulled is to tell themselves and others that what was done in that depiction is the best it could've been done. The reality in cases like this is it could've been done a hell of a lot better, but being an uncritical fan puts blinders on a person. Don't wanna end up in a position where they have to critically think about the content beyond absorbing and loving it, don't have to understand why other people would have a problem with how things were done.
I think that's all I've got for now. Hopefully the new showrunner doesn't suck ass like Beau, and hopefully the MCU cares more about quality and care where Lorna can come into it than about feeding nostalgia boners of people who don't want to move past where their heads were at 30 years ago.

// so msq spoilers under the cut. have not done araid yet
it feels like such a waste of time lmao. what a waste of a decent character I enjoyed with rushed character development and loss of identity and then getting sidelined. typical treatment of female characters per this game. there was a lot I liked but I am still so let down lmao. thought we might get to keep one (1) cool new female character but nope. we're never going to get another female scion.
also let's go to the first and not tell g'raha or thancred and have gaia show up at the very end to be like "hehe why didn't you ask for help" bc the devs won't let me gaia.
all i can say is i'm glad golbez (og) was more or less confirmed to be an azem shard which leaves roi as the SOLE edgy azem shard so far in my canon lmao. but yeah I am so glad this story arc is over. what a waste. i have no words for how salty I was. did not really dispel my overwhelming distance from this game.
i still love this game but man I don't think I'm ever going to get shb level love for it again. endwalker was so good but these patches, aside from the panda raids and the gameplay content (fun trials and raids) it's been so meh. i just hope it only goes up from here but I am really having my doubts about dt solely because they say we are gonna be "divided" which is going to end up with us being stuck with the twins again. i love them but they get more screentime than any other scions lmao. i was hoping we'd get some more complex stuff with y'shtola in these patches and while i did love her in them, it never got too deep. idk man.
#/// negative#6.5 spoilers#⌈ ♞ ⌉ ooc. || ˟ –––– it’s topaz#i was literally so mad ngl#it was going so good until the very end ig#idk man

Exactly!!! This is why Dadrius has my whole heart, there is a good number of parallels and reasons why Darius could make a good parent, it helps a lot he would be able to understand and relate to Hunter in a good number of matters. I wouldn't be half as upset as I am with people being rude about Dadrius if they didn't claim Darius is abusive and such, honestly, you could even headcanon Hunter is adopted by someone else without having to dismiss the obvious bond they both have! It upsets me when it's obvious a lot of bad things gets made up about Darius because of the one instance (canon that it was ONE time, I'm begging people to stop making shit up) he was mean to Hunter. This isn't even the first time a character gets treated badly because of how they acted towards Hunter (Amity in Eclipse Lake, for example, despite her not actually treating him badly? She was super understanding and merely defended herself when it came down to it).
And yeah!!! The whole Camila thing... it's SO bad because there were signs she loved Luz and Luz loved her and for some reason people decided to act as if she was abusive and horrible so Eda would adopt her and mmmm. Once Thanks to them came out that view couldn't be justified because of her amount of screentime, and it honestly feels like they moved on to hate Darius instead and Camila now is the perfect mother that can take care of everything, nevermind that it's a whole plot point that she was having trouble understanding Luz (not to say she's a bad mom, she's great! But people act as if she would be perfect with Hunter despite the amount of problems there would be there, while Darius would be a disaster despite having more points of understanding, apparently). Something that also irks me is that Camila then gets reduced a lot of the time too as the white boy's mom™️ as if 1) Luz and Vee didn't exist (who are also terribly traumatized and need support) and 2) Camila wasn't anything other than just... a mom.
Hunter definitely could have a very interesting exploration with Vee and King, but true! Luz doesn't have to be there for that! Which means Hunter can have those revelations and understanding with Vee as a friend, which they clearly are, and with King, as a sort of friend or "friend's little brother". There's no reason why they would have to be family in the nuclear sense for that. Because that's something else I don't get, Luz says "we are family now" but obviously she doesn't mean he's legally her brother now, this is the Found Family show, guys, please... it's obvious Willow, Gus and Amity are also family to her and it's not really in a "we're gonna be legally related" kind of sense.
We can explore all kind of dynamics without having to make them all family! And in my mind the whole core group we have does consider each other family but again, in that sort of nebulous way that tends to exist in found families, not in the literal sense. I feel like people are especially weird about this when it comes to Hunter, yeah. It takes a village and I firmly think the other adults will help Darius and Eber out when they need, but they don't NEED to all be his parents. What's this obsession with making everyone parent him when he has a canon ending in that sense? Plus he's not the only one who needs a lot of parental attention, we have Vee, we have Amity and the twins... at least let's make this equal, idk.
Gods, yeah :( Gus kinda got thrown out by the story itself which sucks. I really want to know how Gus and Amity get along bc they both have been part of the group for a long time and we don't... really see them interact? Vee and King would be SO fun together!!! King is a bit more obviously chaotic, but they both are and they're also both very sweet. King tends to go and try to relate a lot to people, so I think he would immediately attach to Vee because of their similarities on the... "we are part of an extinct species AND also Luz is our sister" whole thing.
sorry this is just like a little rant i guess but the fandom's treatment of hunter as a character really feels so infuriating to me. like them involving him in literally everything like hes super special.
and i get it! hes a grimwalker. hes cool and like its super neat the entire idea of him but just the way people glorify him really bothers me. its like yall really lost the point of the owl house. you see a potential/canon lgbtq guy and yall zoom to him. the show is literally about a weird girl not fitting in. what about luz??? and the entire idea that people downplay king and luz's sibling bond for hunter.... i dont know.
i just am starting to not like hunter anymore honestly. i get him being a favorite character but just how people treat him as putting him on such a pedestal and high standing- like prioritizing him as a "sibling" over KING-
KING whom literally- did we not watch the same show??? did you not hear what he told luz in king's tide??? hes literally her brother and you want to put hunter in that position when HE LITERALLY WAS NEVER HER BROTHER. IM SORRY BUT LIKE THAT WAS FANDOM'S DOING.
and like yeah!! the noceda siblings are cool and like omg siblings! but you guys... stop forgetting king. i just hate like how hunter is treated. i cant stand how people act in certain spaces.
im not saying your wrong for liking him. not wrong for liking the noceda siblings- i just wish fandom wasnt so... forgetful of king as a character. of everything of the sorts. of the bond he and luz have. theres so much character potential there and i feel like everyone just focuses on the idea of hunter and luz as siblings instead. :(
sometimes i just wish we could go back to pre 2 hiatus where he didnt even exist. where people were ragging on lilith and talking so fondly of hooty and king. now its like all i see is hunter. and YEAH hes neat but i feel like fandom forgot the entire premise of toh.
#i feel like i lost the direction of this at some point but i don't get the fandom sometimes. sigh#the owl house#toh

i have to ask. the train guys for the meme?
ok ok alright before im killed on the spot let me explain myself
first of all. if you think these train guys are neurotypical then you are wrong you are SO wrong. they are autistic at LEAST
ok like. some people are so weird about them. like if youve even just looked in the legends arceus tag you know what im talking about. like idk i feel like a lot of times like this when one character gets REALLY popular in these types of spaces people will start tearing the character to bits and that's whats currently happening to the train twins unfortunately.
i think there was a TON of potential putting someone else from modern times into hisui but it kind felt like that didn't go anywhere. game freak was like "wouldn't it be fucked up if we put the train guy in a different region before trains were invented" and then didn't do anything with it. all i can hope is that EVENTUALLY they end up resolving these wormholes. like if one of these games actually ends up resolving the whole thing where people keep getting eeby deebied then that's cool but so far? nothing. ingo is just kinda stuck in hisui now i guess unless arceus actually ends up sending the protag and ingo back eventually (which. never actually happens in game)
idk but ingo probably had more screentime in legends arceus than in both bw/b2w2 combined and while i get the appeal of funny autism train guys i don't entirely understand all the hype. like i feel like the main reason why ingo is so big is a combo of the train twins having an already decent fanbase (if a bit niche) and the fact that having a modern character sent into the past other than the protag is a genuinely cool concept. idk i love ingo in hisui, sure, but im of the firm opinion that it would have been way more funny if someone like colress the ipad kid got sent to hisui
#ask and ye shall receive#Anonymous#pkmn#like. yes i love the train twins as much as the next person#but still. i dont really get it tbh#like i think any weirdo minor character being put in ingo's place would also be put under a microscope by pokemon fans#it was just exaggerated by the fact that the submas duo already had a decent dedicated fanbase#its the autism i think#and yes i say that with as much affection as i can muster#these twins are SO autistic <3
