hmmm i would say baaaasically chronological. but it also kind of depends on what i'm writing. when i'm just coming up with notes for something i'll hop around a lot jotting down sentences or ideas sometimes as i have them and i'll work out lil plot details here in the future and then circle back to lil plot details here in the present basically. but when it comes down to like my main document and sitting down specifically to write prose, chronological

4) favorite character you've written

hahahahahahahah i just feel obligated to mention that back in my harry potter role playing days i created an oc who was me with my exact real legal name so i feel like i should say she's my favorite

but also!! the way i interact with fandom is always by just like picking one fave. obvs in asoiaf it's sansa, and she's def the pov i've been most into recently

5) character you were most surprised to end up writing

jon i think!! not that i was surprised i would write his pov ever because obvs as a jonsa shipper he is a very important character but that i would write it as much as i do is very surprising to me!!! it's always interesting even to approach other aus/drabbles/ideas than just i carry it in mine and see which ones naturally feel best with a jon pov

6) something you would go back and change in your writing that it’s too late/complicated to change now

lots of people were upset that i kept the sansa/ramsay storyline in i carry it in mine, but i was really not prepared to take on the challenge of how to connect all the dots from the books to the end of the story without relying on the show canon as source material. i think if i had waited to try and come up with answers, i never would've gotten around to writing — but i've talked about one day going back and doing a no ramsay au (and then i can sort of use my own writing as source material) and maybe i'll still one day do that

7) when asked, are you embarrassed or enthusiastic to tell people that you write?

very much depends! i have like very little shame these days when it comes to fandom stuff but if anyone in real life was like "can i read your fanfic" that would be different. i have and do share with some real life friends!! but like i'd mention a lot more to casual acquaintances than i would be willing to actually share with them specifics

8) favorite genre to write

i find!!!!! that i write a lot of angsty stuff as it turns out. idk this isn't a genre but also i am really mainly interested in stories not so much for plot but for like emotional relationships between people and like big love, romantic or platonic, and how that informs people's actions. also!!! lots of yearning lmao

9) what, if anything, do you do for inspiration?

hmmmm i would say if it's self-generated inspiration it probably comes from like reviewing my own notes and ideas and just having fun thinking about them. if it's a new au idea, i'm probably watching something or saw a gifset. but also worth mentioning re: getting inspiration is when someone comments on a fic you haven't updated in a while, just because it gets the gears turning again

10) write in silence or with background noise? with people or alone

i haaaave done all of the above, but i think my brain generally works best in silence and alone when it comes to writing. graphics, though, i need to have something on the tv or i'll get bored and change tasks like if something is not on the silence is so loud!!!

All I really did this week was write, so I think I'll skip the official devlog. Mainly I wanna express that the past couple days on this blog have been really fun? And thank you guys for reading along and chatting with me. <3

Solo gamedev work feels sometimes like... a sword of damocles where you feel like you haaaave to be working and super serious nonstop and you haaave to do everything humanly possible to have that perfect polished product in a prudent period of time or else the sword will fall and give you a very unflattering haircut -- and also behead you, too.

(Yes, the sword of damocles is more about the imminent peril faced by those in positions of power, and I certainly am not in a powerful boat but the IMAGERY is relevant and anyway--)

It's been nice to just write about the characters on here without thinking too hard about it, and seeing a generally positive reception? (I think??) ksdjfbkds. Point being: I appreciate y'all so much. Thank you. :)

Idk what this is and i dont think it’s good enough to give a title to or even really call a fic but i’m sad today and watched this video of Patti Murin performing True Love too many times and then thought about anna singing this at some piano bar and got all sad and words just happened and idk anyway here u go.

He’d never been here before. He had undoubtedly walked past it a million times, but never felt the desire to come inside before tonight. But there was a pull, like a string wrapped around him, urging him inside. A voice, whispering just out of sight, that this would lead to what he was looking for. So he listened, for once in his life, and stepped over the threshold, sat down at the bar, and ordered a beer.

And then he waited. For whatever it was that was supposed to change his life. He waited for two slow beers before she walked in. When he looked at her, at her fiery red hair and soft, dense freckles, he felt it. That pull. 

He almost went over to her, until three friends of hers came through the door laughing right behind her, tugging her to a table next to the stage. You haaaave to, Anna! He heard, swallowing around the lump that had formed in his throat. It’s so beautiful. The redhead - Anna - laughed and swatted at her friend, sitting down in the seat directly across from him. 

And then she looked at him, her eyes widening at first before she averted her gaze and tried to hide her flush. He imagined he looked crazy - he was halfway out of his seat, just-back-from-a-job kind of scruffy and shaggy, in a torn, worn hoodie and staring at her… but he couldn’t stop. If he were her, he was sure he would have wanted the creepy man at the bar to stop staring at him, too. 

But he couldn’t. 

She tried to focus on her friends, he could tell, but every once in a while she would glance up at him again, and stumble over her words, her cheeks would darken and she would pretend she didn’t know what her friends were pestering her about. 

He was scaring her, wasn’t he?

But he knew she was important, and knew he couldn't risk losing sight of her. It almost felt like he had, before. 

After some joking and some drinks, it seemed like she was finally going to go up on stage. Girls who looked like her usually picked something poppy and fun, something that got the bar excited and rowdy. He had sure listened to enough of it tonight. 

But the way she moved, hesitant and nervous, assured him that she would be different.

He watched her, eyes focused, as she climbed onto the stage, handed the pianist sheet music, and stood stiff in front of the microphone. There was something about the stillness surrounding her that seemed wrong, and he felt a deep sadness scratching at his chest as she looked out over the heads of the bar patrons.

“Hi. I know this isn’t usual but… this is a song I wrote.”

The piano started, soft and slow.

She sang.

And he was lost in her.

Her voice was understated but stunning - clearly belonging to someone who didn’t know how talented they were, just yet.

And her face… he swore he could see the brimming of tears on her eyelashes, a tinge of red on her nose, a deep hurt in the furrow of her brows. He could feel himself leaving his chair. He needed to be closer to her, needed to know she saw him, before it was too late.

Her song was quiet and meaningful, of loneliness and heartbreak, of mistakes made and…

Hope. In the end, it was hope.

The bar was silent for only a moment as the last few notes rang out on the piano, before a loud applause broke out across the room.

She was clearly overwhelmed as she thanked the pianist and jumped back down off the stage, her green dress billowing around her knees. Her friends were cheering, and if it had been anyone else he wouldn’t be doing this but -

“Hi, I’m really sorry to bother you —“

She looked up at him, eyes wide and, yes, definitely misty, and a smile pulled at her lips. 

“My name’s, um, Kristoff, and…” He shrugged, pointing over his shoulder. “I’m sorry if I, uh…” - He shouldn’t admit to being a creep - “ah, nevermind. I just… You’re really talented.”

She tucked some hair behind her ear and dropped her gaze to the floor, cheeks flushing, yet again. 

He panicked, then. She didn’t even want to look at him. He should have just left her alone, should have stopped staring at her… should have… “Jeez, um, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have —“

“No!” Her hands flew up, then, touching his chest just momentarily before she took a step back. “No, I mean, I’m…” she laughed and clasped her hands in front of her chest. “I’m, um… thank you. I’m…I’m Anna.”

Their eyes met again in the middle, and he felt a grin of his own stretching. “Hi, Anna.” He rocked up a little onto his heels, ignoring the obviously curious stares of her friends as he glanced around to try and find something else to talk about. He was going to keep talking to her even if the embarrassment killed him. “So…”

She scrunched her nose up a little, adorably, before she let out another laugh and tugged at the bottom of her hair. “So… hi.”

“Hi.” He laughed and rubbed at the back of his neck. 

Her smile was so bright he thought he could have been blinded. “... Hi.”
