Link’s patron animal

Thinking about Link, more specifically, which animal he’s mainly associated as.

See, when you think about Zelda or Ganondorf they’re easy to pin down. More so for Ganondorf. Like, he’s associated with boars, right? Always has been. For me with Zelda I’ve always associated her with owls due to the whole Wisdom thing.

But for Link...? I can’t really say. He’s been literally depicted as a wolf and a rabbit, but I only think of those specific incarnations of Link that way. When I try to think of what animal screams “courage” to me (same way I thought of owls for Zelda) the first thing that would come to my mind is a dog, not really a wolf. But then there’s the problem that there's just so many different breeds of dog that its still hard to associate one with him, and I’m back at square one.

There’s also horses, cause Link is typically a “horse girl”, but the problem with horses is that they’re actually very easily spooked and don’t really evoke “courage” to me. There’s also skyward sword Link that brings to mind loftwings when I think of him, but same issue with wolves and bunnies I just think of Sky specifically associated with birds, rather than Links as a whole.

I dunno, maybe I’m just picky or over thinking it, but I am super curious as to what other people immediately default to when they try to associate an animal with Link. And also because I’ve hit a roadblock in my AU and need help/ideas cause I need to find an animal to associate both Farore and Link with cause I’m writing her to be sort of his “patron saint” as I have Nayru for Zelda and Din for Ganondorf, but shhhhhhhhhh you don’t really need to know that.
