What are your thoughts on everything everywhere all at once please?
i really enjoyed it! we're going through a bit of Happy Nihilist moment in cultural time, i think, and this movie is such a lovely expression of that while also being like. so new, and genre-bending, and surprising. i love that at the core of all its maximalism there was really a delight in the mundane, and the way in which a (very forceful) broadening of your horizon can remind you that littleness and routine and familiarity deserve your love, too. i loved everything about jobu tupaki, her style, her dialogue, her villanelle-dialled-up-to-200 vibes. honestly, i think "colourful comedy that makes you cry" just might be my favourite genre of the year :')
#WILL say that that exact maximalism made my friend who is more prone to sensory overload than i am a little unwell in the cinema#even though she still came out having loved it#looove a comedy that's a drama that's an action adventure that's a martial arts film that's a science fiction movie that's a#idk it fits in so well with this current zeitgeist of like#what is there still to say? what way is there still to say it? art's a factory farm & we're all on our way out#and the answer is always either a kind of gentle abnegation#(think like. the homestead slow living cottagecore thing)#or everything that's going on in this movie#and it makes me happy that this is the direction art is just......taking now? at least in places#so what if we're singing while rome burns. maybe it's a fun song. maybe it's better than NOT singing. since rome's burning anyway#asks#anon
