A/N: this was a concept ficlet i'd& written a while back for my& dear friend aja where back when i& was in the rpc, clementine & isis were basically like a mother-daughter duo where isis would teach her hoodoo & black history & black feminism in the deep south in a ranch area with horses nearby a bayou !! keep in mind that all this was approved by aja who is a afro-indigenous ( specifically black cherokee ) writer who i& always know would make sure i& write accurately should she ever see something that needs fixing. i& write clementine ( & as she is also an introject in our& system ) as a afro-indigenous chinese two spirit nonbinary girl; isis belongs to aja & she is a black creole rootworker & witch from new orleans louisiana with a mysterious past. i& intentionally left this vague whether or not this was in the canon universe of the apocalypse or this is somethin' else but this was actually inspired by the visuals of beyonce's lemonade album, poc cottagecore ( or ig more specifically black & native cottagecore ) & like. i& always hced clem as like always having to codeswitch especially around nonblack and nonnative folx so that mostly white survivors wouldn't view her as a threat ( bc. antiblackness smh ) & so when she's around isis, she feels like she can let those walls down & be authentically herself; i& do my& best to respect the language & aja said i& did a wonderful job at writing it so correctly & with respect as yt folx are really out here doing the absolute most & acting like it's a meme language when it's a language w/ its own dialect, rules, history & culture. i always got like. warm colors & black cottagecore / black witchcore vibes w/ isis & i wanted to reflect that in the visuals bc clementine eventually does do natural protective hairstyles in the future when she grows out her hair so i& think it would've been cool if isis was the one who taught her how to do her braids & stuff like that !! this is all mostly headcanon & exomemory based on clem's part. i& only ask that out of respect considering that this is a gift for a friend that only aja reblogs it but anyone can like it. if you enjoyed this content & you want to leave a tip, you can do that here, while far more importantly, if you want to support black folx, especially queer black folx on juneteenth, you can do that here !! happy juneteenth, black folx who read this, you're so loved!<3333

"Well, ain'tcha' as sweet as a peach, sweetpea!" Isis shrills as her hands complete her latest masterpiece and holds a handheld mirror up for Clementine to see.

The sunlight filtered through the window as Clem's amber eyes gazed back at her reflection, mouth parting with no words coming out, a smile blossoming upon her lips. Her dark brown hair had been tied up in two beautiful afro puffs. "Thank you, ma'am, it's beautiful." Clem murmurs, feeling safe enough to let down her walls that she usually kept around nonblack and nonnative people, so many who had tried to look at her funny even as a child for even speaking in her peoples' dialect. A deep inhale as her eyes flicker over to baby AJ who was suckling on warm milk and honey in a bottle.

"When I was a girl, kids used t' laugh a' me when I went on the schoolbus, call my hair "nappy", look at me funny like I was a clown or Booboo the fool or somethin'," her voice wavers for a moment, trying to hold back the river of tears that was threatening to break the dam before her breath hitches, "an' then I used ta' come home from school cryin' sayin' I was ugly. My daddy never forgot that an' raised hell for all the city t'know, including that school. He used t' tell me every mornin' that I was beautiful and capable of doin' anythin' I set my mind to. I tried... God above, I tried to believe that message but I guess after a while I forgot 'bout it. Hell, I don't even even think I believed him."

Isis listened to every word she said quietly before her lips press gently over Clem's forehead. "You know, your daddy was right, baby. Look at your reflection fo' me."

Clem did as the older woman asked her and as they looked into the mirror together, her voice gently whispered into her ear. "That face is your ancestors staring back at'chu'. They love you, babygirl. Your eyes are as golden as the sun and your heart is even brighter, sweetpea. They're proud that you're here still livin' and breathin' here with me and baby AJ. How many kids your age know how ta' fight like a soldier? How many grown ass adults have the power you got? You keep holdin' your head high and don't let nobody play wi'tchu' 'cause you are that girl and you can be whoever you wanna be. Don't let nobody forget that, don't let nobody play wi'tchu, babygirl, you are not the one to be played with. Black is beautiful and so are you, baby. You hear me?"

The younger girl can't help but smile in the mirror, feeling the warmth of a thousand suns fill her heart, before she turns to the older woman who may as well have been a mother figure to her. She hadn't felt this way in so long that she wanted to cry. "I wanna make you AJ's godmother, miss Isis."

A golden smile graced the woman's features, a soft laugh as sweet as honeycomb filling the room in all its glory as the sun filtered through the window and illuminated her ginger curly locks, "I can be that for baby AJ, babygirl. Now," her doe brown eyes glinted in the sunlight, "you got the herbs I gotchu' to get fo' me? Lemme see. I'm gonna teach you a bit more on herbs and then we gon' ride on horseback together. How that sound, sweetpea?"

Clem nods, a grin revealing pearly whites, "Yes, ma'am," before she stands up and gets her wicker basket and unveils the basket to reveal rue, palo santo and ginger root, her white dress trailing across the floor of the cabin. For the first time in a very long time, she felt soft. Feminine. Fierce. Beautiful. Magical. All her life, it seemed like she had to fight, but now, she can simply... unwind for what appeared to be the first time in forever. I always wanted to scream ideas about them lmao XD See @jessmt​ for some seriously amazing headcanons!!! Seriously, i GOBBLED them up when i first finished book 2 they’re SO GOOD (I headcanon Lake as nonbinary so i will refer to Lake as them/they here) (also I will add other characters occasionally) So i had a long convo with my friend @mell0bee​ about halloween outfits for the whole gang(™) and we concluded: Lake is Bowser Jesse is Luigi Nate is Mario Hazel is princess peach Tulip is Toad Atticus is prince daisy One-one is a question mark block Amelia,,,just wears a hat to humor hazel lol Grace is Pauline Simon is a rat,,,rat man (bc Samantha is a cat,,,so symbolism) Samantha is magikoopa Also another halloween Lake, nate, and Jesse all collectively go as AD, Jesse’s in the front bc he wants to wear sunglasses XD We also discussed how Lake’s first halloween would go down:

Some of my ideas: -Lake steals Jesse’s clothes, it’s canon, you can’t change my mind -Lake teaches Nate how to swear, Jesse tries to stop them XD

-Lake and Jesse sleep best when they’re near each other bc of nightmares, im pretty sure this is fanon at this point haha (and a good thing too!! :D ) -Jesse is ALL about small lil romantic gestures, kisses on the forehead, soft hand holding, compliments anywhere, anytime (Lake DIES every time though they would never admit it XD ) -Lake is subtilty romantic?? Like?? They will accept compliments and make things for Jesse here and there and Jesse will SOB SO BAD bc he’s so touched qwq -Jesse also will put post-it notes ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, near Lake with lil sweet compliments or just REALLY bad jokes XD (Lake is fond of them but they will never admit it haha) -Nate ships them so MUCH and one time he set them up on a date without them knowing and he was very proud of himself,,,even if he had to do their chores for 2 weeks XD -When/if they have kids, I feel like Jesse would be the over protective parent and ask 20 questions to them before and after school and call them during class XD -Lake is 100% the cool parent that’s okay with like anything and every kid in school WISHES they had Lake as a parent

-OKAY BUT i love the idea of Hazel and Nate meeting and becoming bffs and Lake and Jesse becoming their honorary parents QwQ -Jesse will make the WORSE jokes in the world and Lake will still tolerate him XD -Lake rarely cries but when they do, Jesse is always there to comfort them

-Jesse cries,,,everyday,,,over almost anything,,,,like he’ll cry over a picture of a cute cat or a really emotional movie (those ALWAYS gets to him) -random idea that just came to me, Jesse writes poems and they’re actually pretty good and after he meets Lake 90% of them are about Lake (hMMM i wOnDeR wHy??)

-(Lake one day finds them and teases Jesse about them but they secretly are very impressed haha) -Lake sometimes draws?? Idk i feel like they would for some reason??? And really well too so Jesse compliments them over it and Lake always gets flustered haha

-Okay so for confessions,,,it’s hard to say hmm,,,i feel like it would be Jesse bc he’s so emotional and would be an absolute MESS when he finds out he Like Lake romantically -Lake would DIE when he confesses -okay nvm they BOTH die -they figure it out later on tho :’) how? ,,,somehow,,,,idk how relationships are supposed to work i’ve never been in one X’D

-Jesse will 100% find the weirdest screenshots or pictures and send them to Lake with little to no context XD -Jesse will find a bunch of different wounded animals and try to take them home and take care of them XD -Lake tolerates bc they secretly got really attached to a tsundere kitty named Dracula 2 (yes ofc they named it that XD ) -I LOVE the headcanon of Alan Dracula just,,,appearing at Lake and Jesse’s wedding tho OMG, i don’t need logic i need FLUFF -Also Bee mentioned the idea of Jesse and Lake platonically marrying for tax benefits and they WOULD OMG -If Lake is ever upset Jesse take them outside and shows them nature and it ALWAYS helps them feel better, even if they’re very huffy about it haha -also, when they get into big arguments, Jesse always breaks down into tears and apologizes a lot and Lake would just hug him and say it’s okay, they were stupid and they forgave him ;; (I feel like they wouldn’t unless it was something really huge, but,,,i love my angst sorry XD )

-Lake will sense whenever Jesse has nightmares or just generally distressed and help him calm down qwq -Lake loves watching scary movies with Jesse bc a) Lake loves seeing how scared Jesse can get XD b) Lake enjoys the thrill of it c) usually needs to cling onto Lake for emotional support and Lake secretly likes that XD -idk why but I feel like Jesse can cook well? Lake would be absolutely TERRIBLE tho lmao -Jesse has 3782578485 stuffed animals and Lake has exactly 1 -Lake and Jesse really love taking relaxing walks around nature, this is fanon and canon, i will not change my mind

-Lake and Jesse love any amount of physical interaction, it helps them calm down :’)

-LAKE’S FIRST CHRISTMAS AU!!!!! -Christmas is like,,,Jesse’s FAVORITE HOLIDAY EVER and he gets extra excited about everything (he starts singing christmas carols in NOVEMBER okay) -He starts decorating mid-November and Lake is just deadpanning at him as he’s super giddily setting up the christmas tree XD  -Jesse would 100% use the mistletoe to kiss Lake and catch them by surprise :’DDD  (i feel like Tulip wouldn’t like Christmas that much and probably spend the whole time avoiding family as MUCH as possible and just coding till like 4am) -Jesse buys EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING for Lake, he does a really bad job of hiding them lol -Lake doesn’t really get why Christmas is so special since Tulip,,,yeah we all know how that went down so Jesse takes it into his hands to show her how special it is and some of Jesse’s family comes over (i feel like he has some cousins that love hanging out with him and Nate) -Lake is very uncomfortable with so many people at first but they later learn how to have fun with Jesse’s cousins and they basically just play video games for the rest of the day haha (Lake MURDERS them at Smash lmao) -ALSO, Nate and Jesse LOVE cheesy Christmas movies and rom-coms they will watch them for hours XD (Lake secretly likes them later on) -Jesse would 100% get them matching T-shirts or friendship bracelets or those matching friendship pendants :’DDD

-Jesse and Lake sharing a soft blanket and sipping hot cacao, YES -When Jesse gets sick, it’s up to Nate and Lake to get him healthy again so they find all types of foods to help poor sick Jesse and try to cook,,,is chaos but they end up being able to feed him chicken soup and bread and some mashed potatoes,,,bc i feel like Nate really likes them?? So he’d make them for this brother when he doesn’t feel well 

-Lake comforts Nate whenever he’s sad or get bullied or pushed around by others, Lake is basically his honorary protective sibling -Nate is SO happy to have someone as protective and cool as Lake, they sometimes just all hangout and build pillow forts and Jesse pretends to be a big monster -Lake is SUPER good at sneaky flirty comments that make Jesse turn BEET red XDDD -Jesse will 100% say the most DUMB CUTE COMPLIMENTS and make Lake blush and cry over them QwQ -Jesse will cry over fictional characters and that is CANON okay, Lake tolerates XD -Lake and Jesse will sleep anywhere, they just feel so safe near each other qwq Hope you like these headcanons!! do I like them: ya def he’s the cool + mysterious type how could i not??? tbqh the moment i laid eyes on him i Knew. i Knew i would like him.

5 good qualities:1) perseverance to the fuckin max2) type of person that would thoroughly fuck someone over for not crediting original artists/creators3) extremely perceptive aka has a really sensitive bullshit meter and his intuition is probs always spot on.4) smoking is such a?? cool technique to specialise in?? usually its probs an add on, not a main component of the dish but ibusaki manages to not only allow it to supplement his ingredients but also make smoking become the main dish itself, im so awed.5) could probably kill you with his bare hands. i mean this boy can handle logs of wood and woodchippers and chainsaws with relative ease, he’s probs ripped af and the strongest out of all the psd members 

3 bad qualities:1) holes himself up when upset2) adding on, probably doesn’t ask for help as often as he should - not that he doesn’t want to, but imo he’ll struggle to ask; and when someone asks if he’s ok, when he finally makes up his mind to speak up the moment/opportunity to has passed3) he’s gonna get really bad eyesight if he keeps up with that hairstyle LMAO

Marui:

do I like them: YES !! im honestly so glad that marui is a character in shokugeki - i greatly appreciate a character that mainly uses brains and intellect to come out on top in a typical scenario where brawn and talent is hugely praised. 

5 good qualities: 1) SMART !! so gosh darned smart im so proud of my son !! he absorbs knowledge and understands it and is able to apply it, which is the most incredible and difficult task, yet he executes it with perfection :”)) adding on, he’s the fuckin ace of his research club like what the heckin hell, people need to give him more credit for his skills2) acute awareness of what he lacks and actively works to compensate for it with his strengths3) actually the most relatable character. gets exhausted at everything like same lmaooo4) the friend that gives good advice that nobody follows, moans about yall “i toooldd yoouuuu soooo ...!!!”, but still helps yall out of whatever trouble caused :”))5) he’s good at understanding people’s needs and wants even if they don’t explicitly say it out loud and subtly provides them w help so the person doesn’t feel awkward uvu

3 bad qualities:1) might rely too much on book intellect ! i feel this might restrict him when it comes to a proper shokugeki and he has to think/act on his feet - he’s probs the type to just freeze up if things don’t go to plan :”((2) probably focuses too much on polishing his strengths to an unhealthy amount - if he isn’t the best at what he specialises in he goes through immense self doubt and pressure3) gives into pressure really easily...! because he’s so good natured he finds it hard to say no to people, even if he knows he’s gonna Suffer for this. he’s That poor dude u see standing by the sidewalk for half an hour nodding as some religious person preaches about their faith to him LMAO :”D
