For me - it's cuz data costs money. Not everyone has a working cellphone. And i'm terrified of the ever increasing $$ cost of existing in the world as everything becomes more reliant on 1200 computers that stop working after a few years. It's a monthly cost literally not everyone can afford. And if you're thinking - why would they be going to a restaurant? Sure, yeah I almost never eat out. If this becomes common place I sure as heck never will. How EMBARESSING would that be??

Like really, just imagine the shame. The utter utter shame. Of being out with your friends. And someone offers to buy you dinner. And you can't even look at your own menu cuz you're out of data. Or your phone doesn't work. Or it's dead cuz the battery lasts an hour cuz it's ancient.

Basic aspects of life shouldn't be behind such a huge pay wall. The slow creep of the complete requirement to have such an expensive appliance freaks me out.

Have both! That's totally fine. Just please don't make it normal for me to feel even more shame for being poor.
