Just watched the 2008 Teatro Massimo Palermo Mefistofele with @skeleton-richard and while there are a number of staging choices I did not love (LET. THE. ANGELIC CHORUS. GO. ONSTAGE.) I gotta say that Ferruccio Furlanetto's cry of "Faust! Faust! Faust!" at the end is gonna stay with me for a long time.

#it was so raw #i sobbed #mefistofele #hot faust summer #basically the cast was very good and actually i liked a lot of the aesthetic choices #but the direction did not always underscore the emotion of the scenes effectively #that said it had one of the best prison scenes i've seen #also i was told meph and faust kiss during the final scene and it was kinda hard to tell if they actually did?#it was a long-distance shot so it was kind of ambiguous #idk if they did gay kisses in operas in 2008 #although this production did have lesbian smooching in the helen of troy scene #but in this time period it was definitely considered more scandalous to have two men kiss than two women
