The Price of Having a Forte (Oneshot)
Word Count (2,900)
Genre: Hurt/Comfort, Sickfic, Fever/Illness Whump
Fandom: Master Detective Archives RAINCODE
Characters: Yuma Kokohead, Shinigami, Halara Nightmare
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There was a string of locked room murder mysteries around Kanai Ward lately. For 6 months they kept appearing. All these cases involved the victim being killed by countless nails while the corpse was surrounded by a crowd of porcelain dolls. The murders seem like an Urban Legend in Kanai Ward done by a figure known as The Nail Man.
On his first morning in Kanai Ward, detective trainee Yuma ends up dragged into a mess by his ghostly partner Shinigami. Literally dragging him by a chain to eventually get him involved in the most recent case, involving a child whose father was arrested by peacekeepers thinking he was the culprit.
Yuma takes it upon himself to help this child save his father by finding the true culprit. But he realizes he’s in way over his head and will need some help. So, he seeks out Halara Nightmare, a master detective who charges a little too much for their services. Sadly, this meant Yuma ended up in debt to them. With a bill of 5,500,800 shien.
Unfortunately, the duo’s interference in the case caused the Amaterasu Peacekeepers to hold their Chief hostage as punishment, and they only had three hours to solve this case, or they would arrest him.
Over time investigating the cases, Yuma can investigate the case in the past with Halara using the aid of their forensic forte, Postcognition. Able to see the past of the case when it was discovered by a third party. This proved very helpful because Yuma also had a forte of his own (though he thinks it’s Shinigami’s power) The power of Coalescence. The ability to share someone else’s forte by holding the person’s hand.
Halara sadly showed some reluctance at first due to despising all of humanity, so the thought of touching Yuma mortified them. But Yuma persisted with using Halara’s greed against them.
Thus, his bill becomes bigger.
The duo had just finished investigating their second case in a mansion. They were on their way to the third crime scene in the art gallery in Ginma district. But something was wrong. Yuma was starting to feel tired, dizzy and on the verge of collapse. He even started coughing.
It wasn’t even sudden. The more he used Coalescence with Halara during the investigations, the more he grew fatigued. At first it was just some light tiredness and a small headache, but now it was becoming unbearable.
As the two of them walked towards the center of ginma, Yuma was moving slower. Causing Halara to turn around and face him. He was hunched over, looking down to the ground panting slightly.
“Pick up the pace Yuma, I won’t allow time to be wasted.” Halara said looking a little annoyed.
Yuma didn’t look up. Great. He was already a burden to Halara.
“S-Sorry… You go on ahead…I’ll…catch up….” He said in a winded voice.
Halara doesn’t argue and goes on ahead of him.
“Master come on!! Another dead body awaits us!” Shinigami said in a nagging tone.
Yuma let out a few raspy coughs. His head was killing him. He just wanted to sit down. But he had to keep going.
“I-I know… I’m coming…” he responded under heavy breathing, coughing again.
“What the heck’s going on with you?? You’ve been looking pale since you kept holding hands with Hellara.” The spirit said. “Don’t tell me you’re sick.”
Yuma groaned holding his head. He clearly was.
“Okay, I won’t…” he said in an aggravated tone.
Yuma’s body was giving out. He coughed again before wrapping his hands around his body. He started feeling hot and cold now. The endless rain was not helping him at all, his cold rain-soaked body had begun shivering. The dizziness wasn’t stopping.
Did he have a fever too? Or did he have one this whole time and it just got worse?
Yuma tried to take another step but ended up tripping and collapsing to the floor. His face hitting the wet ground.
“Master!!” Shinigami cried. “Get a hold of yourself!!!”
Yuma’s fatigue levels were skyrocketing. He tried to get up, but his arms were like jelly and wouldn’t move. His entire body was in pain, and he couldn’t stop shaking.
“I can’t…move…. H…help…” he said quietly.
“There’s nothing I can do when you’re the only one who can see me!! Dammit!! Where’s Hellara when you need them!?” Shiniagmi said in an annoyed tone.
Meanwhile.
Halara had just arrived at the destination, but they noticed Yuma wasn’t with them by the time they arrived at the art gallery. This wasn’t their case; they were just assisting him. What took him?
Halara did realize something as they thought to themself on Yuma’s absence. Every time the trainee held their hand to use their forte, over time he felt… a bit warmer? And come to think of it, he was coughing a little bit too. And he was too tired to keep going.
Halara’s eyes grew slightly wide as they put the pieces together.
Yuma may have been in trouble. And in that state, if peacekeepers saw him…
They immediately rushed back to where Yuma was to see if their deduction was correct.
When Halara got back, they noticed a crowd of people circling around where Yuma was.
“Is he okay?” a ginma civilian asked.
“What happened? Did he get hurt?” another said.
“Maybe someone should call a peacekeeper…” a third said.
That was enough to set Halara’s defensive mode into action. If the peacekeepers found him, it would be over.
They walked over, not even bothering to say excuse me, practically pushing people away. They found Yuma’s unconscious body on the floor. They stood in front of it in defense.
“He’s with me. You can leave now.” Halara said giving an intimidating look.
This was enough to send people away. Halara was hesitant to touch Yuma at first, but he needed to be taken somewhere safe. They reluctantly picked him up and rushed to a small dark corner close to the art gallery.
They set Yuma down against a wall.
“Yuma wake up.” Halara said shaking him a little. “Hey, pull it together…”
Yuma slowly opened his eyes.
“w-who…?” he quietly said. His vison was a little blurry.
“Calm down it’s me.” Halara said. “Are you alright? What happened?”
“H…hala…ra…” Yuma’s breathing was heavy; he could hardly speak.
“Hey now, stay with me Yuma…!” they quietly exclaimed.
Yuma’s eyes were fluttering. He looked as if he’d pass out any minute.
Then he broke out in a harsh wet coughing fit.
He was in BAD shape.
Halara paused for a moment, they really didn’t want to touch him again. But they had no choice, the trainee was clearly ill, and he needed help.
They swallowed their hatred for people and placed a hand to his forehead.
Their deduction was on point.
He was burning.
They moved their hand to his cheek and behind his neck. Then removed it.
“Yuma, you’re burning up.” Halara said.
Yuma’s coughing settled down before he had a dizzy spell and passed out falling in front of Halara and landing on their chest. Due to Halara’s shock, he almost knocks them down.
But he was too small.
Halara was still paused in shock but as they heard the trainee’s heavy panting, they knew the rain was only making his state worse. He was shivering and felt hot. He likely needed medical help.
Not good. Not now… They were on a timer! At this rate, the chief will be…
Halara tried to remain calm. This wasn’t good. They had to do something.
First, they had to get him out of the rain. They picked him up again and ran over to the café.
The staff worker was surprised to see the customers they had just hours ago in such a panicked state. Practically running at full speed into their entrance.
“What happened?” The staff member asked. “You look distressed.”
Halara sits Yuma onto a chair keeping him upright holding his shoulders before turning to the staff worker.
“Call an ambulance. He needs help.” Halara said in a minorly panicked tone.
🚑~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The ambulance arrived, and the two were in a waiting room of one of the emergency clinics in Kanai Ward. Halara was seated with Yuma sitting next to them, laying on their right shoulder still panting with their eyes closed.
Eventually the nurse staff takes Yuma away to have him examined.
During his small bit of times in and out of consciousness, Yuma wasn’t sure of what was going on. He could see blurry silhouettes surrounding him, he could feel cold hands touching him, lights flashing in and out, and even the prick of a needle in his arm at one point.
Soon he was out cold once again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When he opened his eyes again much later, he looked around him and saw he was in an unknown room. It looked pretty fancy, and he laid tucked into a large and very comfortable bed.
He took a moment to look around, but his head was hurting a bit too much. Although the immense dizziness and heat from before subsided and he felt a little more stable, he still felt very tired, and the fever was still very much present. But he didn’t feel as bad as when he was outside. Maybe it was because he was out of the rain, dry and in a warm bed.
“Where…am I…?” he said quietly.
“Master? You awake?” Shinigami said floating beside him.
“Shinigami…? What happened?” he asked.
The small ghostly spirit shrugged.
“I wish I could tell you, but you kept passing in and out of consciousness. And since the two of us are connected, when you pass out, so do I.” she responded. “All I know for sure is that you’re sick as hell. You may as well be a corpse right now.”
He thought to himself.
That’s right… I felt dizzy on the walk to Ginma and couldn’t move much… I guess I fainted.
“My mind feels hazy…I can’t really remember how I got here…” Yuma said holding his head.
“I think that’s normal for an amnesiac like you!” Shinigami said in a teasing tone.
“But you took my memories…” Yuma said. “Anyway, I wonder how…I even got in this state…”
Was it because of all the rain? The lack of sleep? Maybe the stress of this case?
Shinigami pondered for a bit.
“Y’know this is ONLY a guess, I think that maybe, juuust maybe, using Coalescence too much might’ve caused your body to deteriorate like this.”
“Now that you mention it…the more I held hands with Halara…the more tired I became…”
“Yeah, so maybe you can only use it a specific number of times.” Shinigami said.
“You didn’t know about this? Isn’t this your power Shinigami?” Yuma asked.
“Th-That’s not important right now! Look over there, Master.” Shinigami said pointing to a bag on the desk beside him.
Yuma turned his head and noticed there was a prescribed medical bag. It had his full name written on it and instructions and numbers per dosage taken. He reached his hand for it and grabbed it looking it over.
“I wonder if… Halara may have taken me to a clinic.” He said deducing that from observing the bag.
“Yeah, I think I remember from the black in-and-out visions, I saw a lot of white and some people in scrubs. I think you were taken back.”
“I do remember feeling something poke me… Maybe they had to give me a shot.”
“Not surprising with your weak body. I bet the lowest fever would cause you to be taken to the medical ward. Sheesh you’re so lame Master.”
“Again… This is your power…” Yuma protested.
But before they could argue further, he heard the opening of a door.
Yuma looked over and saw Halara holding a bag as they walked in.
“Yuma, you’re awake.” Halara said, putting the bag down.
“Halara…where am I?” he asked quietly, placing the prescription bag back on the nightstand table.
“You’re in my hotel room. You collapsed outside Ginma. I took you to a clinic and they told me you had a fever of almost 102 degrees. You need to rest.” they said.
“S-Sorry…that you had to go through that trouble…” Yuma responded meekly. “Thank you, for helping me Halara…”
“You owe me an extra 500,000 shien for that.” They responded, putting the bag down. “And I didn’t have a choice, we’re on a timer and I couldn’t just leave you there to die.”
Yuma remained silent. It must have been hard for Halara to do that since they didn’t like touching other people. To see them go the extra mile for him was surprising but kind of them, nonetheless.
Halara reached into the bag and grabbed 2 things.
“Now, I got you a glass of ice water from the restaurant as well as some vanilla yogurt. You’re free to eat it later. Before I leave, you should take the medication to help you sleep.”
Yuma tried to sit up, but his body was not cooperating. The shot from earlier seemed to make his body limp and the fever was still making his world spin a bit. He was only more stable due to being out of the rain outside and somewhere warm and dry. He couldn’t move if he wanted to.
“S-Sorry…I can’t…move…” Yuma responded.
“That’s to be expected. The nurse told me the injection you received would make your body feel limp for better recovery purposes.” Halara said as they walked closer to Yuma placing the water glass on the stand beside him. “Why do you think I’m still here? I will assist you.”
Halara knelt on the floor so they could be at Yuma’s level. They grabbed the medical bag on the stand and took the prescribed medicine tablets out of it. They punctured one of the blue and white pills out and set it on their palm. Then they grabbed the glass of water with their other hand, along with a small straw that was included with it. They unwrapped it placing it into the glass delicately.
“Okay, now open your mouth.” Halara said as they held the pill in between their fingers.
Yuma opened his mouth as Halara gently set the tablet where his tongue was. Yuma closed his mouth, not swallowing the tablet, but didn’t want to look awkward with his mouth hanging open while waiting for what Halara would do next.
The taller detective took the glass of water then moved it and the straw close to Yuma’s now closed mouth.
“Here. Drink up.” Halara said.
Yuma opened his mouth again then closed it once he had the straw and bit down onto it, the tablet still on his tongue. He drank the water quietly swallowing the pill in the process.
“Huh… Guess even Hellara can be pretty nice every once in a while…” Shinigami said floating above his head looking down at the sight before her.
Yuma closed his eyes as he continued drinking. The ice cool water felt good going down his throat so even if the pill was already down, he kept drinking. It was refreshing and it was just what his feverish body needed.
Once he was done with his cold beverage, he released the straw exhaling.
“Thank you Halara…” he said with a weak smile.
Halara didn’t speak putting the glass down and stood up walking toward the door.
“I will solve this case alone. You cannot continue in your state.” They spoke.
“Wait…but you said…”
“I know what I said. But circumstances have changed. The chief is still being held hostage by those peacekeepers, and you’re too ill to continue the case. There is no time to hesitate…you will owe me greatly for this, but we do not have many options.”
Halara closed their eyes. “I may have an idea on the culprit…just leave it to me, Yuma.”
Yuma looked up at Shinigami.
“Hate to admit it but, Hellara’s right. You can hardly move in the condition you’re in and pretty sure that rain would boom-kill you before you solve the case anyway. Plus, if you pass out, so do I, and that wasn’t a lot of fun for me y’know!”
Yuma sighed as he looked back at his temporary caretaker about to leave.
“Thanks… I’ll leave it to you Halara…” he responded.
Halara nodded. “Get some rest. When you wake up again, we will be back in the agency with the chief unharmed.” They gave a wink.
“With my logic, anything is possible.”
Yuma nodded as he watched Halara leave the room making sure the door was locked so nobody would barge in to bother or even attack Yuma. They made sure the windows were locked too and the lighting in the room was dim.
They really did think of everything.
Yuma yawned as he slowly turned his head sinking it into the soft fluffy pillow. This bed was much more comfortable than the sofa he slept on back at the agency. He felt he would fall asleep any minute.
“Hey, Master? I think you should probably be careful how much you use Coalescence from now on…” Shinigami commented. “Maybe only use it just once or twice…”
Yuma nodded weakly as he sighed, slowly closing his eyes drifting off to a much-needed slumber. One that he couldn’t get back at the agency.

bleach - same verse as Howling Outside Your Door
ABO universe, worldbuilding + fallout from the main body of a grimmichi fic (in between fic and epilogue) : ichigo makes his way back home.
(it used to be that attempt at epilogue that stumped me for like six months.)
i'm not posting it on AO3 yet because the flow bothers me, idk about the ending lines, and also i want to put it inside a collection fic for that 'verse but i don't wanna start a collection when it's the only thing i can put in it. so like, i'll probably post it there if/when i manage another fic but for now, it's here.
--
So Ichigo did the walk of shame back to town in archaic underwear and what amounted to a mid-thigh bathrobe.
Fair enough, he told himself (and Hollow Zangetsu, who replied with nothing but snickering in the back of his head and a sensation of a door closing with a firm and definitive snap between them.)
Or... Maybe fair was the wrong word, but -- whatever. He didn't actually... mind. It would be embarrassing when he finally reached town, but --
No matter. Never mind. He would deal. It was just weird, being alone again.
He hopped over a tree trunk with casual disregard, and promptly caught his toe on it and tripped when his sleeve started ringing out of nowhere. His foot landed with a wet squelch in something unidentifiable; he plunged his hand down his sleeve to grab the spirit flip phone Urahara had somehow managed to inflict on him.
"Yeah? -- oh, gross."
"Who are you calling gross, little boy?"
-- Oh. He stopped walking, phone pressed to his ear and one foot still up, trying to flick the weird mush out from between his toes. "Rukia? They called you in?"
Just hearing her voice made his shoulders relax, his back straighten.
"I came with the Captain-Commander." Her voice was all no-nonsense, extra-professional; Kyōraku was probably in the room with her. Ichigo tried not to feel too disappointed. He'd hoped... "Now Urahara-san tells us a garganta just opened and closed, can you confirm?"
"Yeah, they just left. Peacefully and with half of my house's entire stock of pillows."
He was rewarded with a little 'heh.' "And your estimated time of arrival at the shop?"
"Oh, uh." Ugh. Five minutes if he flew, but he didn't want to fly. "Fifte... thirty minutes. I gotta... stuff."
"Very well." She turned away from the phone, voice gone muffled as she relayed his words. Sigh.
"Alright," she said all at once, in such a different tone he almost startled. "I'm in the ladies' room. Tell me why you're coming back on foot. Are you brooding?"
Ichigo spluttered, and shoved a branch out of his face with a little more -- enthusiasm. (Relief.) "What the hell makes you think that?!"
"If you were injured you'd say so. You wouldn't make poor Inoue cry thinking of you limping back through rough terrain on your lonesome."
"...Mngh."
"Also... Ichigo, I'm an alpha too. Do you think I don't understand how it might feel to devote a couple nights slaking a lover's lust and shielding their most intimate vulnerabilities only for them to disappear in the morning?"
He swallowed. Cleared his throat. "... I keep forgetting you're an alpha."
"Bullshit you do, you're just a deviant."
"Ugh, shut up. Nobody still goes by Sengoku era rules for friend groups."
Fewer and fewer people even still held onto it for actual packs in the Living World, but Soul Society, he knew, held firmly to that rule at least. A household might have several omegas, and definitely several betas, but more than one, unrelated alpha? Too shocking for their old-timey sensibilities. Kind of... queer.
Rukia's voice went teasingly cloying. "There, there, it's okay if you consider me a senior alpha, a patriarch of sorts, a mentor in the ways of--"
"I really, really don't."
"Hmph. Upstart."
"You really missed an occasion to call me a whippersnapper there."
She clicked her tongue. "Drat, I really did. Lout?"
"Lout's a good one."
A moment of quiet fell between them. Ichigo tried to swallow back the choking feeling making its way up his throat.
He wished she were here, walking in the woods with him. Her and Chad and Renji. Ishida and Inoue and Tatsuki too, while he was at it, though he and Tatsuki were guaranteed to get into a brawl as long as he was still this choked up on hormones. Just thinking of his childhood friend even close enough to smell his omega on his skin made him bite back a growl.
He'd probably still growl at Rukia, but not... Not the same way.
Not now that Grimmjow was gone, and his pack with him.
"Ow, fuck."
"Hm?"
"Stubbed my toe. Listen, Rukia..."
"Yes."
It's just stupid hormones, right? he wanted to ask. Nothing else. It's hormones and discovering so much all at once about a man who made such a strong impression on me back then, and I'm a bit shaken, and it will pass. Can you please tell me that? But he couldn't push out any of that.
"Can you bring me clothes?" he asked instead. "Or my body, I should probably--"
He probably shouldn't get his body yet, actually. Kyōraku was here.
Kyōraku was here about Mayuri.
"... Am I getting arrested?"
He didn't even have time to brace for the answer; Rukia immediately dismissed it with a snort. "Don't be ridiculous. They don't have the funds to repair the prison break damages."
"... Uh. Maybe I would... not escape..."
"You wouldn't have the time to turn around in your jail cell before all your friends rose up to break you out and you know it." A sigh. "I'm not saying there won't be... complications... but -- just get home, Ichigo. It'll be okay."
He sped up a little, in the end.
Rukia met him at the edge of the woods with a new shihakusho, and the smile she pinched down was only a little bit teasing and a lot more sympathetic. He didn't want to growl at all.
He wanted to growl later on when he walked through the front of Urahara's shop past a double row of rank-and-file shinigami all side-eyeing him to find, in the tatami room behind it, the captain-commander sprawled out with a cup of "tea" in hand.
Inoue and Ishida and Chad were sitting there in front of him, in polite seiza, and for a second all Ichigo could see was 'a strange alpha around my pack' and 'a threat'.
Then Rukia whacked him between the shoulder blades, propelling him past the threshold, and Kyōraku -- quick shrewd glance, genial smile -- reclined some more, and waved. "Kurosaki-kun! Hello."
"... I'm not so close to losing control that you need to show me your belly, Kyōraku-san." Mostly because taking that opening to attack would be a mistake that would cost Ichigo his life, he was pretty sure. But still.
The man laughed. "Ah, but it helps, doesn't it."
Grumbling, Ichigo looked away. None of his pack looked rattled or unsure or scrunched-down; Ishida was on the cool side of reserved, but he always was around high-ranking shinigami, and Inoue and Chad looked like they'd been having a nice little talk before he came in. Ichigo made his way to the cushion they'd left empty in the middle and sat with a grumble, ignoring Ishida's pointed sniff.
"I don't suppose you could have taken a shower first," Ishida muttered.
"Shut up. No."
Kyōraku straightened up a bit, leaning back on his hand but mostly vertical, legs crossed. Ichigo busied himself taking the bigger Zangetsu off his back to rest it on the floor beside him with the blade turned inwards, since Kyōraku had done the same with his sabers and they were apparently playing the antique version of the 'everybody is friendly here' game really insistently.
(The shorter blade across the small of his back stayed put, though.)
"Ahh, does any of you need a little bit to reestablish scent mar--"
"No," Ishida and Ichigo chorused with disgust, and Inoue echoed with flailing hands when the man's eyes turned to her.
Chad chuckled, looking away. In the middle of gracefully kneeling to sit at the side of the table, Rukia snorted, and then coughed delicately to try to cover it up.
"Hoo. Are you not a pack, then?"
"Yes we are."
"But you don't --"
The man was toying with his tea cup and looking pleasantly friendly. Ichigo's eyes narrowed.
"Ah -- Tatskuki-chan agreed to be my designated heat partner before I met -- she's my best friend, you know?"
"Mnh. And in a traumatizing turn of events," Ishida added, "it turns out Kurosaki and I are related. Distantly, but I don't know of any distance that would be far enough, so--"
"That's not what you're here to talk about," Ichigo interrupted, and only moderately felt bad.
Mayuri had acted very certain that his little side trips were going to be met with a rap on his knuckles at the very worst.
Ichigo should have been thinking of Nemu-san, who would probably mourn the bastard. Of all the important miracles the man had probably accomplished in the name of Soul Society, or was still in the middle of bringing forth.
All he could think was, 'he made Grimmjow's packmates turn on him and was smug about it', and try as he may to bury it, the thought just kept echoing with what he had felt back when Tsukishima took the people he loved. That raw despair, that powerlessness.
Ichigo was a very civilized alpha, from one of the most restrained and polite countries in the world. He liked Kyōraku. He respected Kyōraku. He still growled.
Kyōraku watched him without saying anything for a moment, head tilted.
"I don't suppose an official mutual apology to soothe ruffled feathers is in the cards then."
Ichigo's jaw ached. "I'll apologize to Nemu-san."
Rukia inhaled slowly between her teeth, hands fisted on her knees. "... Ah. The Central 46..."
Kyōraku hummed, watching him. Ichigo stared back. At his side his friends didn't know why he had taken this hard tone, but they still straightened up, hardening their resolve to match, to shore him up.
"Well! You're a very young human startled in a very delicate, very irrational moment. Kurotsuchi-taicho should have known better."
"Kurosaki-san is extremely regretful, I'm sure," Rukia lied with her 'Nobles don't have emotions, only prissiness' face on. "Emotional. Terrible for all involved."
And Ichigo knew what they were doing, knew this was saving face and nothing else, agreeing on a half-assed lie to sell those other guys, knew that shoving their noses in the truth would only be annoying for everyone, but he -- but.
Grimmjow. Ed. Di Roy.
Not a single one of them mattered one whit to the Central 46. Just vermin.
"I don't understand why you kept him," he said.
"Ah... Kurosaki-kun." And now Kyōraku looked sad. Pitying. Ichigo liked him, he reminded himself again.
"I understand he was really useful. And you lost Urahara, so it was him or nothing."
"Mmh." Kyōraku rolled the cup in his hand slowly. "That and we sometimes needed someone who could make the hard decisions fast. Ruthless."
"The problem was that he also made easy decisions fast -- as long as they were easy for him." Ichigo speared him with a look. "You are ruthless. He was a sociopath."
Kyōraku paused, hand gone still, gaze briefly turned inwards. "...Ah."
"If we could go and find his secret labs. How many of his projects would be useful, even if they're horrible, and how many would be something the council in charge would close their eyes on in order to keep him happy? Who approved him torturing arrancar, when Harribel-san asked to get them back? Was it just because she hadn't heard about those ones, so hey, great, a loophole? What else was he doing?!"
... Ah. Rukia's hand was on his hand, which was clenched in a fist on the table. Ichigo was halfway out of his seat. Okay. Alright. Breathe.
... Breathe.
Ichigo was just a normal human young adult. Lecturing a military leader of hundreds, thousands of people felt -- wrong. Disrespectful. They had centuries of tradition he knew nothing about, political and social pressure from places he had no idea about. As an outsider, it was easy to be idealistic.
It wasn't his job to sort them out, so why was it his job?! He tilted his head back, breathing deeply as he stared at the ceiling, and turned his hand in Rukia's grasp so he could grasp her back. Tight pressure, anchoring. Chad's hand on his other shoulder, gentle and warm.
He'd killed Mayuri out of hand, and that part terrified him. That he had decided, 'this man brings nothing to the world that would pay for who he is,' and erased him. That he was able to do that.
It hadn't felt like righteous anger at all. Or like self-defense. It had felt like handing down judgment.
"Ichigo?" Rukia asked.
'Was it the wrong judgment call to make, though?' he thought, or old man Zangetsu thought, or something murkier in between the two of them. Something cold and old and remote, that asked of his choice, 'Would you unmake it?', and the answer was no.
"Ichigo."
"Queasy," he managed to answer. Inoue immediately went rummaging in her backpack for a bottle of water, presenting it with a worried frown. He somehow managed a smile. The water was on the tepid side but still helped distract him, bring him back down.
"Hormone hangover?" Ishida asked, sounding only vaguely interested in the way he did when he didn't want to betray any worry. "It's not actually an uncommon side effect."
"Ah... Maybe. What do you do to get over it?"
"Just sit in a room alone until it passes, honestly. I'm told it happens more often when there's several omegas at once," he added, and looked away, and Ichigo arched an eyebrow. The tip of Ishida's visible ear was a little red. Hm.
... Inoue was rummaging in her bag with twice the enthusiasm suddenly, and her face was pinkening rapidly.
Dang. Apparently he owed Tatsuki a fistbump.
Shaking his head, an amused smile on his lips, Ichigo turned back to Kyōraku. "Sorry, sorry. Just..."
The man chuckled quietly. "I understand."
He drank his probably-doctored tea. Ichigo drank his water. Everyone concentrated on their cup for a little while.
"... Anyways. What's going to happen now?"
"About Captain Kurotsuchi or about your arrancar?
"Or about Kurosaki," Ishida added waspishly.
"Yes, yes. Well -- the Central 46 are going to have a meeting, and they're going to yell a lot about wanting a dangerously feral part-hollow with a track record of going against Soul Society contained somehow--"
It did not escape Ichigo's notice that the description matched him better than Grimmjow.
"And then I will regretfully explain to them that we don't have the manpower or the social capital for that. Nowadays Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez is almost as powerful as Tier Harribel and five times as lethal. She's not about to allow us to take away her strongest invasion deterrent, and she commands a good third of all hollows -- mostly the smarter ones."
"And the fact that he wouldn't have invaded if you guys weren't keeping his friends in a 'torture basement'?"
Kyōraku gave him such an empty smile Ichigo almost shuddered. "Ah, Kurosaki-kun, it's sweet that you can still be so innocent. It's entirely fair not to respect the word you gave to a hollow! Especially in the name of gaining better intelligence on our ancestral enemy. Greater good, and all that."
... Ugh.
So Grimmjow wasn't a person and his government was only respected for now because 'not enough manpower' and 'so far they're staying out of the way'. Then again the more Ichigo thought about the Court of Pure Souls and the more he wondered if they'd ever picked up the words "human rights violation" while passing by in the last century, because they sure didn't treat powerless human souls or even the members of their own military much better.
"So it's going to be brushed under the rug," Ishida concluded grimly.
"That part of it at least. The Central 46 might attempt to issue you a summons to explain yourself before their court."
"Huh." Not his idea of a great time, getting yelled at by self-important blowhards, but if it kept the peace, kept his good relations with the 13 Divisions intact...
He wasn't sure, though. The asshole council might take it as him agreeing that he was under their authority. He'd have to ask Urahara about how to proceed.
"Haa!" Kyōraku put his cup down with a little thwack. "Replacing him is going to be such a pain."
Ichigo grimaced, a pinch of irritation mixed with guilt.
"Perhaps not," came from the other door, a panel sliding open to unveil Urahara himself, carrying a little plate with store-brand senbei artistically arranged on it. He looked ridiculously pleased with it.
(Nobody looked especially surprised at his sudden entrance, but then again they were all used to him by now.)
Ichigo stared at Urahara. Surely the man couldn't mean he would replace Mayuri. After everything Soul Society had done to him, how they'd thrown him out -- and he liked it here, he had a whole life with Yoruichi and Tessai and the kids and no oversight --
Ichigo was still in the middle of catching himself (no oversight -- that was the problem with Mayuri too--) when Urahara grinned brightly and went, "For a price, of course!"
"... You're going to make them pay through their noses, aren't you."
His smile turned sharper-edged. "Good. They might hold back unless it really matters, then."
--
Rukia stayed behind, afterwards -- nominally to supervise the Tenth Division squad who was going to stay on site for cleanup, but after she was done saluting Kyōraku as he left and giving quick directions to her subordinates she followed Ichigo and his pack right back inside the shop.
Then they took over one of the tatami side rooms -- not the one that still smelled like Kyōraku -- and when Ichigo slumped down in the middle they kind of all sat with him.
Not on him, the way Grimmjow's pack had done with each other, not languid and close, all nonchalant and uncaring about an ankle draped over another ankle or a friendly punch to the nearest shoulder just passing by. But near enough. Nobody was in heat or anything, and besides they weren't Europeans.
Right now he was kind of butthurt about that. PDAs were so embarrassing but a side-hug might be ... not entirely horrible today.
"How's the hangover?" Chad asked, a big paw on his shoulder. It wasn't as big as Ed's hands, or as fever-warm -- the guy had a fire shikai or the equivalent, he was almost sure -- but it was good. Ichigo sighed.
"Meh." He flicked him a smile. "Better now."
Quiet for a little while. Inoue had found another water bottle in her bottomless bag. Ichigo sipped at it, talking himself down.
It was all fine now. It was over.
"Your house is fixed, by the way! Ah -- it's still very dusty, Ishida-kun didn't let me--"
"I can handle a broom, Inoue-san!" Ishida protested. "I can't let you do everything and exhaust yourself like this. Also the drapes needed an upgrade, when's the last time they were changed?"
"Probably when mom was still around," Ichigo said thoughtlessly, and shrugged through the familiar pinch of pain. "I don't mind if you add frills, but you should ask Yuzu and Karin. They probably have a whole binder of decoration stuff..."
... Actually he kinda minded a little. Were Ishida's embellishments ridiculous? Yeah, yeah they were. But he still didn't want--
"Ichigo?" Rukia asked, sinking down into seiza at his side, head tilted to watch his face. "Bad thought?"
"No, no. Just woolgathering." What a weird train of thought.
He didn't want Ishida to decorate his dad's home.
He wouldn't mind if it were his own place with the lace doilies for drapes, though. And Inoue could bring a huge plushie or strange fridge art, and Chad band posters, or hell, he could do his own room the way he wanted, and Rukia --
Well, she could do her own closet the way she liked it, too, he didn't judge, though he'd have to procure one big enough to fold Renji into first. Tatsuki could have the house next door with a room each for their two pack omegas and put a little gate between their yards, and he would piss her off by leaving his nerdy books all over her living room.
"... You're aware that you're whining, right?"
Ichigo was, in fact, whining. Very quietly in his throat, while having the stupidest domestic fantasy out of nowhere--
"So!" Rukia interrupted his idiocy, slapping her hands on her thighs. "The guy who put an arm through my guts that one time."
"--fuck."
"Also put his arm through other people around Inoue, as far as I heard. Also some Quincy. And... also promised to kill you? Gruesomely?"
Groaning, Ichigo sank into himself, both hands on his face. "He also put his hand halfway through me one or two times," he admitted, hoping it was muffled enough that nobody would understand him.
"... Well."
Ichigo groaned again. Yeah, uh. Okay. His tastes were apparently shit --
"Don't make that face," Rukia said, a little awkwardly, and elbowed him in the side as she sat next to him. "If you didn't blow through troops of assholes and came back out with three new best friends, would you even be Ichigo?"
Chad laughed, quiet and deep. Ichigo growl-whined some more.
"I was just saying! That I feel like, I don't even need to ask you what he's like in bed."
Ichigo spluttered.
"Well, I do!" Inoue declared, earnest and blushing even as she met his eyes. "H-how was the sex, Kurosaki-kun?"
... She still said 'sex' like it was a super forbidden extra-shocking word their schoolteacher was gonna whack them over the head with, with an edge of earnest 'did you have fun with your new friend, sweetie?'. He deflated all over again, his whine acquiring an edge of despairing laughter.
"... He asked me to be there for his next heat."
"Oooooooh."
"I'm already planning the nest."
"Well! You're fucked," Ishida said with a tone that almost passed for sympathy, and they all took turns patting his back until the flustered misery had been beaten all the way out of him.

kariselle super duper hot, im actually jealous how u were able to set that up so well and casually, makes me think abt how I do my own worldbuilding like maybe in Minecraft terms turning down my render distance(?????) to just the characters and less to the environment
sisterly bonding also cool, named reader is something id love to try out. I haven't done threesome yet and I will be taking notes :DDDD in particular im interested in how you wrote in such a way that didn't take long, I didn't think abt it a lot before I started but after I did I've been avoiding threesome bc I felt they had to be long like 5k+ and have all the moving parts when you could just,,, do that which is awesome
tuesdays with you again named reader and this time fem, it's another thing I have an aversion to bc im not well into the intricacies of the female experience but reading eunbi I had to stop and think if it really really warranted that much special attention. the cut was also perfect tho that wasn't too hard to do in hindsight, just makes me wonder abt how I do my own cuts since im kinda insecure that I do them so often sakfjflshshdkf
this maybe wasn't the sort of feedback u were looking for lmao sorry but ily sins go to sleep :DDDD
hi box!!
okay let's dissect this part by part.
Kariselle exists because I work with characters, yes. I think the world around the characters can only be built when you have a grasp of what you want these two, three, four people to do with each other. It's the wrestling philosophy—I'm the booker of the show, and it's a sex show. I want the audience to see these two people fuck. These two really complement each other in some shape or form (character trait, like, for example, in To-Do List, Minju's naughty, and OC's corruptible and a bit of a pushover). Now, I have the complentary traits, and I can start selling the reason why they fuck: Is Minju exploring? Is she a known pervert? Is OC just a horndog? What does Minju want out of this? What does OC want out of this? Why do they have to fuck? I think this is an effective way to start a draft—knowing your characters first, and making a world around them.
For Sisterly Bonding, a threesome does not have to be complicated. You can actually just start with the sex scene, and sprinkle details in later. Writing does not have to be a linear process—this is something I need to learn myself too. You can absolutely just cut the story short, and sprinkle details of it into the smut instead. However, remember that Sisterly Bonding is Chapter 1 of a series, and not a standalone, so I do have wiggle room to spread my worldbuilding out, which results in what is posted.
For Tuesdays With You—I'm not familiar with that experience at all either. I'm absolutely shooting from the hip, but I've also tried to really make it as realistic as I can imagine or know through research. I'm pretty sure there's a girl out there who's read my work and went "this is bullshit" and left, but I don't think I'll ever know, unless they use this AMA to really tell me "haha ur shit" or something idk. I think I'm doing okay though, based on the comments on AO3.
Your cuts are fine, from what I remember. Don't worry about it.
:huggr:

saw your recent reblog about feedback and, though I’ve been occasionally gushing in tags, you deserve to hear what I tell my friends! In general, your writing style is perfect at capturing the timing and delivery of the show itself. I’ve never read a fic i’ve been able to visualize more clearly than this one. You write each character so well that between chapters it feels like i’m right back where i used to be, waiting for new episodes again. I do think you haven’t *quite* solved your side-character-ification (applejackification?) of Dipper problem yet, but other than that you’re doing an astounding job at balancing all the characters and their interactions with each other and with bill in a way that feels natural (plus with these more recent chapters i’m seeing lots of good dipper stuff so you’re definitely getting there with him too! besides, it is nice to see Mabel get the spotlight after all these years anyway. healing, even.) You know exactly how to control an audience’s emotions, you know when to drag something out and when to shut it down, you know when to cut off a conversation and when bring up the fact it was cut off later. Little foreshadowings like the loose tooth are well-planted and plot beats like lucid dreaming are dropped and picked back up delicately and with precision, like pressing piano keys. i don’t doubt for a second it’s all a part of some grand instrument, though i wouldn’t be surprised if you told me most of it was improvised - another way you’re just like the show was. you’ve done the episodic-and-serialized thing better than at least half of all silver-age cartoons that have attempted to do so! I adore the way you show kindness to all characters in your scenes, from gideon’s characterless mother to the little freak himself. It truly feels as though you pick no favorites, and that’s something you do better than the show did tbh. Not that TBOB needed to hook me in with a marketing campaign, but hypothetically, in a universe where I didn’t own a hand-sewn bill cipher throw-pillow and yet somehow still found this fic, I would definitely be excited for it after reading! you’re gifted, and i hope this does numbers on AO3. I truly cannot stand hazbin hotel, but I may go back and read your other works once this one’s over, just to hear your narrative voice. it’s a voice worth hearing, and may it be forever amplified.
oh WOW thank you so much??? 😭 this is SUCH a sweet comment and it means so much to me that you took the time to write all this!!
APPLEJACKIFICATION... that made me laugh. Dipper will get some serious development before the end of the eclipse plot and he's key in the next plot, so I think that'll help him make some progress. But yeah—he's not gonna be as important as Mabel, but I do want to make sure he has a plot that stands on its own, smaller though it may be.
It's 2/3 planned, 1/3 improvised. 😁 I've got a lead time of about 15 chapters between what I've posted and what I've written, so I can do stuff like write the poppet chapter, write the tooth fairy arc, edit the poppet chapter, realize that as long as I'm giving him a bloody lip maybe I can loosen his tooth, edit the tooth fairy arc, have him mention that that tooth was loose. And many chapters I haven't written or outlined yet I have loosely planned in my head so I know how to aim toward them.
Wanting to show kindness to all the characters and wanting to give as many of them an internal life as possible is so important to me, and I'm so glad that's showing through so far!
And honestly I think "I hate [xyz] but I'll read it if you're writing it" is the highest compliment. 😂 All my hazbin fics were written pre-season 1 when all we had was the pilot, a couple comics, creator comments, and some Helluva to go by; but idk maybe you'd consider that a plus lol. (If you're interested, on ao3 I've also written Transformers, Godzilla, some Pokémon, and a smattering of other things.)
Thanks again for sending such a nice message!

Honoured to have been tagged by @my-secret-shame, legendary paw patrol stan.
How many works do you have on AO3? Three. All abandonded, two are Naruto and ones DC. Darker times...
2. What's your total AO3 words count? 7,541. I haven't posted there in years.
3. What fandoms do you write for? Oscar Isaac almost exclusively. In my head I also write for... is cryptids a fandom? I write the best horror novels in my head, putting HP Lovecraft to shame. One day someone will give me an Oscar character with a horror prompt and it will be the best day ever.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Since I don't even have five fics on AO3, I'll do tumblr instead. Also just gonna stick to Oscar stuff, the only other posts are slasher ones.
Pumpkin Porno In My VeinsTo Be Involved Blue Jones The Makeup Artist Oscar Characters Dating a Witchy Reader
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I response to almost all of them! There's some where I don't know what to say so... I kinda don't. But I do try my hardest, I appreciate when people take time to say a kind word to me and like to return that.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Uh... I don't know that I've ever written one. I do absolutely love angst and I feel I could write it decently well, but to end with angst? I simply cannot. Maybe Caladan Attacks, since its basically on the line of non-con with no hope of escape?
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? The Moon Knight system playing minecraft with you post is just silly, self indulgent fluff that was so funny to write. So thats a very happy one.
8. Do you get hate on fics? I have never, which I'm happy to keep like that.
9. Do you write smut. If so what kind? I've written about maybe six smut ever, it's all here and it's... the Oscar Isaac character kind. Or it's always got plot even when I don't mean for it too. I'll get 1k wc in and go "Why the fuck have I not even gotten to the smut yet?".
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? I wrote the Steven Grant Travelling the Oscar Verse thingy, where Steven accidentally teleports to Poe Dameron, Leto Atreides and Basil Stitt. Was crazy because I didn't make Steven and Leto bang.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? No. Unless they stole it really well and I don't know.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Once with an MHA x reader thing back in the day. It also got put on youtube! Highest achievement.
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before? Nope, no clue how it works and too nervous to accept an offer.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship? Oh no idea, it always depends on what I'm into. Currently in the Oscar fandom I have a bunch of random ships in my head I imagine for god knows what reason.
Steven/Jake Steven/Cecil William/Jake Blue/Jake Me/Jake
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? There's a MK system x reader breeding request I've stared at so many times yet cannot muster the strength to finish. Idk why. I just cannot. Won't delete it though.
16. What are your writing strengths? When I'm in the zone I can crack out four fics in a day. I feel I can put a decent amount of character depth.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? I burn out so, so easily when writing. Maybe I need more practice, but it burns out my want to write and my love for the thing I'm into.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I only know English and Scots, but there's nothing to write Scots for and people are rude about it.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Naruto, back in the dark ages.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written? A Fake Taxi because the concept is so fun, I was encouraged by a friend and it's my first ever smut so that's a milestone!
Thanks again for the tag <3 My no pressure tags are: @winniethewife @minispidey @lunaesidus
#fen you tagged everyone i know#im too introverted for this who else am i left to tag 😭#jk ily#tag game

genuine question, how do you write so fast? 😭 i feel like you’re so quick with your works, both writing and putting them out!!
also i found your tumblr on ao3 and i have to say that you are carrying nct fics on ao3. i hope you never stop writing cause i could be 40 and i would still read your stuff 🫶
i think a big thing has been getting out of my head abt writing! like i only write when i want to, i don't stick to word counts (minimums or maximums), and i dont compare myself to other writers (not that i read a whole lot of fic anymore, but there's a few that i still keep up with and one of them churns out fics way faster than i do, and another who posts like maybe two or three times a year but i still love them!) like i've def said this before, but for me, writing fic is fun, it's something i do bc i want to and if i open a word doc and i'm genuinely dreading it, i'm not gonna do it (my adhd brain simply will not make me lol--tho that is a double edged sword bc i do have to chase myself into doing something i like sometimes, but the ritalin has helped a lot xx)
i also dont go into my fics completely clueless anymore. like, i for sure don't know everything, i learn a lot along the way, and tend to change stuff (and get surprised by my own fics, which is always fun!), but i definitely have more of an outline and general sort of sketch of the fic in my brain and in my word doc before i start actually writing real scenes of any sort, which has definitely helped. like, starting with one little idea isn't bad at all (strawberry sunday literally just started w the fact that i liked the title of a song that i hadn't even heard yet and it turned into like 10 fics??), but i dont just start writing head empty anymore (i used to get a tiny spark of inspiration and try to write everything start to finish immediately because i thought i'd lose it if i didn't, and it'd burn really short. now i sort of just sit with it and slowly tend to it like fire instead and it lasts a lot longer and gets a lot bigger). i ruminate a lot before anything that looks remotely like a story leaves my ideas doc and gets its own doc
idk if this necessarily makes me write faster, but i also edit as i write? like, sometimes i open a fic and i don't have anything in me to write, but i'll reread what's in the draft so far and edit, make little changes, fix continuity errors, etc. not only does it keep the whole plot so far fresh in my mind as i continue writing, but then i have a lot less to proof myself when i finally finish the whole thing because i've already caught a lot of spelling, grammatical, and plot errors! i used to find editing a slog to do bc when i finished my first draft i would be so excited and wanted to just post it! and didn't want to reread all this stuff i just wrote several times to try to find typos, and now it's usually a breeze bc my first draft isn't really my first draft, it's been continually revised as it was drafted. and sometimes i open a doc, won't feel like writing, tinker around with some editing, then suddenly have a lightbulb moment while i'm editing and jump into writing
#its been soooo mindset and not fighting how my own brain works for me lol#like this is not my job its supposed to be fun and if its not then i simply will not do it#and i really look forward to coming home and writing fic#i think getting out of academia has helped bc this is what can scratch that itch for me now without burning me out lol#<<< former english major#answered#anonymous#talk#text#mine#fb#writing tag

20 questions game
Thank you @fazedlight for the tag!!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Currently 10.
2. What’s your total AO3 words count?
196,109 words out at this very moment.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Supergirl. Most notably Supercorp. I've written Dansen, and there is a Rojarias WIP somewhere.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
As you wish (Medieval AU) I don't like that falling feels like flying 'til the bone crush (Post S6, except Kara had an ex-girlfriend) A Battlefield Proposal (takes place in 619) Feeling the weight of the sun (Here we come, blue and green) (DEBS AU) Instead of hate, please pass the scones (S5 fic)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, I try my best to reply to all! Sometimes it takes me a while because I save them for depression hours. The only fic I have not replied to all the comments is "A Battlefield Proposal" and that's because people be asking about a sequel, and Idk how to respond to that...
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't know her.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
All my fics have happy endings, it's a necessity.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not so far. I've been very lucky in that sense.
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
I- tried? Like There are 2 fics when there is smut. Is it good? idk. I know it's that writing smut is FREAKING HARD, and I tip my hat to every smut writer out there.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Not really? At most I wrote Donna Troy (Wonder Girl) from Titans in a fic. But it was a glorified cameo, for my nefarious purposes. Have I even watched Titans? No. But I needed the vibe.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, as far as I know.
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Not yet. But I do plan on bamboozling someone into writing an AU with me, just because they know a lot about the topic.
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Listen, I wracked my brain thinking about this. But Supercorp got me back into writing after over a decade. I'm still living with the brainrot, the others ships have faded after a few months. Close second is Korrasami, tho.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I started drafting a fic where Kal confronts Kara for revealing her identity, and how it puts his identity in danger. And how he doesn't trust Lena, and Kara goes bananas because of it. But I don't think I will finish that version of the fic. Maybe another iteration, tho.
16. What are your writing strengths?
No idea, dialogue? Connecting plot? Outlining?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Actually writing.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
English is my another language. So I do that constantly. If have to write any other language, I'll try to ask someone who's a native speaker, after going through a translator.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
...Dramione.
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
As you wish I had SO much fun writing it. And It was a short fic, so I didn't have to wreck my head thinking too much about it. Then, DEBS AU which was the polar opposite. It was long, and I fried my brain trying to translate the movie (one of my favorites) to a story that made sense for the characters, and still felt fresh but still with the essence of both the movie and the show.

20 Q's for Fic Writers
Thanks @spacejammie-eimmajecaps fren for the tag :3
1. How many works do you have on Ao3?
I currently have 12! 11 from this year, and 1 published in 2014
2. What's your total Ao3 word count?
78, 238! (75, 322 from this year)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I mainly write for Haikyuu, My Hero Academia and Bluelock, but have also published for BG3 + Buddy Daddies. And I have some JJK in the wips
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Just the Way You Like It (kngr, bllk): 150 Miri's First Swimming Lesson (buddy daddies): 133 Cater to You (kngr, bllk): 116 Interlude: The Senses of You (kazurei, buddy daddies): 113 Strategies for Play (bokuakakuroiwa, haikyuu): 85
I am still a baby writer but I hold all of my little kudos to my heart very fondly
5. Do you respond to comments?
Most of the time I will respond, yes!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oooh... I don't know that I write angsty endings. Usually it's angst all the way till the end. Maybe Interlude: The Senses of You as although there's comfort at the end there's also lots of crying? I think overall it's my most angsty fic as well
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Hmmm... most of them have happy endings so idk... maybe Strategies for Play bc Kuroo's "masterplan" worked and it ends post great sex with everyone cuddling in bed being super cute?
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Nope, not ever received hate on my fics but I have received hate about my fics on here (the Astarion one)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Most of what I write tends to be smut lmao. And I guess all kinds but usually with some kind of bdsm/kink dynamics to them? 4 of my published fics are smut (cater to you, he was made to be broken, strategies for play, and the miya atsumu humilation show), and an additional 1 has some sexual content in it (just watch me). My more "risque" content is currently languishing in my wips waiting to be finished (yeah i'm looking at you inumaki/itadori/sukuna fic)
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Yes, but none of them have been published yet LMAO. I can't tell you about one of them that'll be published soon for the They Were Roommates big bang, but I did/do have a bluelock/D&D cross over that's probably the "craziest" one (and also SO much fun to plan). Deep in my wips I also have a BokuAka Greek Mythology AU and sketches for a Haikyuu/Dirty Dancing AU
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Hope not!
12. There was no question 12 so I'll make one up myself: What's the longest you've ever spent working on one fic? And the shortest?
LMAO. I love this because who made this one up? idk! If we're going by published fics then The Miya Atsumu Humiliation Show took me from May to October 2023 (5 months), and I've been working on my TWRRMs bang fic since May (currently 6 months). I've also been planning/writing Fire On the Horizon since Jan 2023!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I've co-created a fic, as in coming up with the idea with another person, and I've also co-created in the sense of working with beta readers for bang fics. I've not co-written anything yet though, but I would love to!
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
Nooo... what a cruel question. I'll give you my top 5 bc I simply cannot choose: krbk (kirishima/bakugou), stsg (gojo/geto), skts (sakusa/atsumu), bkak (bokuto/akaashi), bokuroo (bokuto/kuroo)
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
gods. So many of them tbh... I might one day muster the will to finish he was made to be broken. I want to finish the kunichi (kunigami/raichi) one but idk if I will ever get round to it. And the bllk/D&D one would take a lot of work, but maybe if/when I get back into bllk that'd help
16. What are your writing strengths?
I always struggle with this question bc I have really bad writing insecurities but recently I've been able to conclude that I think I'm reasonably good at comedic writing (people tend to find my fics quite funny), emotive writing (I make people cry/feel Emotions, even if said people don't usually when reading fics), and descriptive writing (I get lots of compliments that people can visualise exactly what I've described)
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
idk if it's a "true" weakness but I'm always paranoid that my dialogue is weak as balls. I also don't have much experience with writing long fic, and thus also character + plot development, but this is something I wanna work on. Oh, the biggest one is probs confidence in myself though!
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I think it sounds like a cool idea if it works within the context!
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Hahaha so technically I think the first fandom I ever wrote for was Spyro the Dragon when I was like... 6 or 7. On Ao3 though it was Harry Potter in 2014. When I returned to writing in 2022, the first one was My Hero Academia
20. Favourite fic you've written?
Oooooooooh. I think my favourite is Strategies for Play. I adored writing it and it was the easiest one I've ever written. Plus writing Bokuto/Akaashi/Kuroo/Iwaizumi dynamics was *chefs kiss*. Otherwise, the [redacted] TWRMMs bang fic I'm writing at the moment is one I've had lots of fun with and am excited to share (very, very soon!) Just Watch Me is also one of my favourites bc krbk my beloveds and it's the one that brought me back to fic writing so its v dear to my heart Tagging some of my fave writery friends as I'd love to read their answers, but join in too if ya want!: @mari-writes, @mooifyourecows, @axreliono, @ciunasboinin, @howlsmovinglibrary

i dont usually do tag games but i liked this one, tagged by @alighted-willow
20 questions for writers
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
4 (technically 5 but i abandoned and privated one of them) on my main account and 9 on my smut account
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
37,751 on my main, around 47,000 on the porn account
3. What fandoms do you write for?
uhhhh dimension 20 (not really but it was my first posted fanfic) and tmnt. i write mainly about one other fandom on my smut account tho.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
well i've only got about 5 of them so i'll just put them in order
caracal carousel
show me already
time to think
a modest comparison
it's my turn on the Being Abusive
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
most of the time. i do it to encourage people to comment, because really really like comments. but if i get a comment i SUPER like i put off answering it because i wanna give it the time it deserves. ironically that means i have yet to respond to some of my favorite comments. oops.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
idk i think they're all pretty equally angsty. like a lot of them end with the implication that more abuse is going to happen after the story's been concluded, lol.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
definitely Show Me Already, it's the only one that doesn't end with someone feeling like garbage or implying some kind of abuse is about to happen. just an alien brain slug excited to make his boyfriend happy.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
i dont think so? I think someone commented something rude once on one of my smut fics but im not great at telling tone so idk.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
yup, the fucked up kinky kind that could get me harassed by ppl who's opinions i dont care about but who would prolly be really fucking annoying to deal with
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
nah
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
idk
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
not to my knowledge
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
no, that sounds stressful
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
thats like asking what my favorite song is like how da hell should i know they all serve different purposes.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
GOD. on my smut account i have an outline for a 2 chapter fic and i posted the first chapter and never the second one. it haunts me. idk if i WONT do it but it wont get done any time soon.
16. What are your writing strengths?
i can write ok and people like it :)
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
i dont know enough about writing as an art form to properly assess my weaknesses :(
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
too complex a question for this kind of game. if i were to do it i'd want to get the input of someone who like, actually speaks it or something. but idk. i'd try my best on my own, cuz im unlikely to find someone willing to do that kind of beta reading for me, and though i'd want to compensate them somehow i'm so fuckin broke.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Dimension 20 Starstruck Odyssey. i think it was the first fanfic i ever wrote and posted and i have no idea what drove me to it.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
hhhhhhhhhhh this really depends. I have a lot of fun writing about abuse and since that's what basically all of my fics are about in one way or another it's like. idk. i've re-read my smut ones more often than my non-smut ones tho so uh, maybe one of those.
#nnstuff#rambling#i love answering things about myself#i prolly wont do most tag games and if i do they'll be in a new post like this one but#i dont dislike being tagged. its like aw nice you remembered i exist lol#fanfic

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Three.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
579,734
3. What fandoms do you write for?
On ao3? Harry Potter, Funny Games (2007) and an obscure Slenderman ARG called EverymanHYBRID (???)
But wait. There's more. I've posted stories on fanfiction.net about The Dark Knight (Joker x OC), Labyrinth (Jareth x OC), Repo! The Genetic Opera (Graverobber x OC) and Phantom of the Opera (Erik x (you guessed it!) OC)
But wait. There's even more. In my google drive live (and die) dozens of unpublished fanfics from various fandoms. Right now, my favorite is about Resident Evil: Village (Heisenberg x OC), but god there are so many more. Every time I fixate on a piece of media, I have to write about it and insert myself into the universe. Usually I abandon the fics though.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Broken Silence (Harry Potter, Snape x OC)
:D (EverymanHYBRID, HABIT x OC)
Whether by knife or whether by gun (Funny Games, Paul x OC)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
No, only occasionally. I could be better about it but anxiety. Plus I get quite a lot of comments and idk...I'd feel bad making it a habit if I only had the bandwidth to answer some. Plus PLUS most of what I would say boils down to "thanks for reading bby" and that gets repetitive. I do read and cherish every single comment I get though.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Haven't ended any yet. Striving to make people cry with BS though.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Again, I have a terrible habit of simply just never ending my fanfictions.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
No. Well, once someone tried to defend JKR. Like ??? what a hill to die on.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yeah. Dom/sub vibes, flavors of daddy issues and brat taming, maybe some dubcon floating around.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I have this one wild fanfiction that's a crossover of the 2001 Stephen King miniseries Rose Red and the videogame Dishonored. I wish I was fucking joking. Otherwise no.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. Other stories yes, though.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Well people asked, but I don't think I ever replied.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not unless you could DnD stuff.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
I think I'm abnormal among fandom authors because I never get very excited about shipping canon characters. The one exception is Dean x Castiel -- I am a fucking DIE HARD Destiel shipper. But otherwise, fanfiction for me is about inserting myself or my relatable characters into fandoms.
So when you ask my favorite ship, it's gotta be me x Karl Heisenberg.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Take your pick. Probably the Repo! fic I started in college.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue. Flow. ... clarity?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Metaphors and poetry. Can't do that shit. If I write something beautiful, it's because I tripped over my own feet and accidentally landed in it.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Cool, do it, just do your research. Does feel a tiny bit pedantic though.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Labyrinth. I was like 10 and Jareth was ALL I could think about.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
I'd like to say Broken Silence, and in a lot of ways it is. It's certainly the fic I'm proudest of, and one I'm certain to finish. But in terms of just me having fun? My Heisenberg fic is eating my brain right now. Someday I'll post it. Probably.

20 Questions for fic Writers!
Okay so, I was tagged by @outtoshatter and I'm just going to take a swing at this. Here we go.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Currently 22.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
202,411.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I mainly write for Dungeons and Daddies, Nark specifically. But I also have a couple in there for the Teen Wolf Sterek fandom.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
But You Have Heard of Me [ Teen Wolf, M, Wc: 82,014] (my baby!) The Taste of Perfume [DnDads, M, Wc: 58,717] (wip) Sudoku [DnDads, G, Wc: 5,226] Uno Attack [Dndads, G, Wc: 5,717] A Consuming Faith [Dndads, E, Wc: 33,963] (My baby wip! I'm aiming for another 80k with this one.)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Absolutely I do! If someone takes the time out of their day to not only read my silly little stories, but also comment on them, I will absolutely reply! Unless they're mean I guess? I haven't had any mean/rude comments yet so knock on wood. lol
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I love angst. I write it into a lot of things. But as far as endings go... hmm. Well I guess that title would currently go to one of my drabbles, A Done Deal [DnDads, G, Wc: 100] but without giving away spoilers one of my wips is going to take that title as soon as I get around to writting it lol.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Oh, But You Have Heard of Me [ Teen Wolf, M, Wc: 82,014]. My baby~! Happy ending and maybe one day it will have a happy sequel.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I feel like I'm going to jinx myself by saying no. I haven't recieved any rude or hateful comments on any of my fics. Not even when I posted on LJ.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I am not confident when it comes to writing smut. I used to write a lot of it back on LJ. Now I just Fade To Black, but I do have plans to maybe write some for a wip. But idk we will see when we get there.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Nope! I wrote a fusion fic, But You Have Heard of Me [ Teen Wolf, M, Wc: 82,014] but no crossovers.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I am aware of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I had I believe 2 fics translated on LJ, but not on Ao3
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Hahaha, yes! On LJ my irl bestie and I wrote a fic together! It was very cute, we each did a chapter following one half of the ships pov. I'd love to do it again some day it was super fun! What I really wanna do is get a bunch of different writers involved in doing a collaboration where the characters are stuck waking up in different timelines, so each chapter could be a different one-shot by a different author but they all connect. I think it would be fun.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Sora/Riku. I don't write for this ship but I will fight god about them. I've been obsessed with them since I was 12 and played Kingdom Hearts. I have fics I've been re-reading for alkjsdflks way too long omg. When I played Kh3 and Riku showed up I screamed so loud it scared my partner. You can pry them from my cold dead fingers okay.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Hahaha, I just recently posted this fic to my Ao3. A Divine Move [Teen Wolf, M, 8,676] Stiles is a horror game character (based off games like Until Dawn and The Blair Witch Project) and Derek is from a dating sim (Based off Hunnypop lol) It was going to get an E rating cause I had some absolutely slasher ideas for Stiles game and the plot was loosely adapted from Wreck-It-Ralph. So, maybe one day I'll get the inspiration back, but as of now it's just not there.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I have been told I have a very clear writing voice and that I'm very good at setting a scene and showing it to the reader. I think my main strength is my humor. lol I find myself very funny.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
A lack of confidence alksdfjalksd. I get so anxious trying to make sure that the movie in my head is being translated into word correctly that I sometimes over do things. Also I have the absolute worst grammar, and spelling omg.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
If I don't speak the language enough to be confident that I'm using the words correctly I just do the "They said in language" kinda thing.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Okay, lmao. Okay okay. It was for the Gorillaz back when Demon Days had just come out.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
My two babies that I'm the most proud of are
But You Have Heard of Me [ Teen Wolf, M, Wc: 82,014]
I spent a year writting it and I made several friends because of it. It is my baby and I love it. I re-read it and still laugh at it.
A Consuming Faith [Dndads, E, Wc: 33,963]
I have been putting so much work into this fic and it's really pushing me as a writer. I have been obsessed with cult and demons since I was young, probably too young lol, so this is just basically 3 of my hyper-fixations coming together in a fun way. I have big plans for this fic and I'm very excited about it. I've been working on it for 7 months now, and I'm really hoping I can finish it before the end of the year.
Thanks for the tag! I'm going to tag some people and maybe they'll play along too, no pressure though and I have no clue what I'm doing so sorry if you didn't want to be tagged. @evanesdust @nottoolateforthegame @siogosho @missanniewhimsy @calamity-unlocked

20 Questions For Fic Writers
How many works do you have on Ao3?
7!
What's your total Ao3 word count?
187,012
What fandoms do you write for?
Young Royals. I've written for other fandoms in the past, but nothing else atm.
Top five fics by kudos
You feel like the perfect escape now
I just keep on dreaming
Checkmate, I couldn't lose
Confess your truth in swooping, sloping, cursive letters
Maybe I should play it cooler than I am
Do you respond to comments?
Always!
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Well, if you've read any of my fics, you know I barely even write angst, so let alone angsty endings lol
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Can I say the Singer Simon one I've jsut started posting? Even though I haven't written the ending yet...but I know it's gonna be so good!
Do you get hate on fics?
Never directly in my comments at least, so not that I know of?
Do you write smut?
I've written smut in previous fandoms, nut sure it was any good though.
Craziest crossover:
Never written one.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of, hopefully not!
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I don't think so, no.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
In a previous fandom, yes. Though it was never finished, rip
All time favourite ship?
Wilmon! Is that even a question?
What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I've started a little epilogue thingy for Perfect escape now (my honeymoon fic) over a year ago, but I'm not sure I'll ever finish it. It was the first fic I ever posted and idk if I want to "risk" adding to it almost two years later.
What are your writing strengths?
Is writing sometimes what feel like unnecessary details but which eventually help make the scene "more real" a writing strength? If so, that! I think Rose (hi @simons-purplehoodie) has mentioned it a few times while beta-reading my stories. Or I guess silly, really fluffy stories could also be one!
What are your writing weaknesses?
Filler scenes, 1000%! I hate them so much that for previous fics I used to write all the good scenes, not in chronological order, before I ever wrote a single filler one 💀 I'm trying to write chapter by chapter with my current fic and it's going well so far (I'm on chapter 10).
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I don't mind it, but sometimes it can feel a little odd depending on the context.
First fandom you wrote in?
I will not post this here lol
Favourite fic you've written?
Singer Simon x Bodyguard Wille my most beloved! As for a complete one, maybe my dog neighbours AU because it was just really fun to write!
No pressure tags @piebingo, @bigalockwood, @enjoythesilentworld & anyone else who wants to do this!

20 QUESTIONS FOR FIC WRITERS
I was tagged by seven of you (!!!) so here are my answers. Consider this an open tag, I have no idea who hasn't done this yet.
---
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
222 if you don't count the hidden ones, 245 if you do.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
1.5 million (this does count the hidden ones because I'm too lazy to go subtract them from the total).
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently HP and Good Omens, but I've written for 16 fandoms over the years, and you never know which one I'll go back to.
4. Top 5 fics by kudos?
-Finding Home (no longer available)
-the spaces between
-Da Capo (no longer available)
-Courtship Rituals (no longer available)
-quicken to the new life (no longer available)
5. Do you respond to comments?
Sometimes. I go through fits and spurts of either responding to every single comment, or responding to none. It doesn't mean I don't appreciate comments! But I'm already writing and posting fics for free, and responding to every comment is something that I don't always have the time or mental space for.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Fuck, idk. I don't know what's angst and what isn't. The Fall of Gods, maybe.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I write a lot of fluff, actually! Idk how I got a reputation as an angst writer, smh. The Trouble With Quidditch is pretty fluffy.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Oh, sure. But it gets deleted.
9. Do you write smut?
Begrudgingly. It's extremely demoralizing as a writer to know that the only way a fic is going to get attention is if you put smut in it, so I do it sometimes just for the kudos/comments. But I hate every second of writing it.
10. Do you write crossovers?
Yep. I've done a HP/GO one, and some cracky Sherlock/Star Trek ones, and probably a few others I can't remember.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yep, several of them into different languages.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! @allcanonisrelative is probably the person I've written with the most, but I've written with others as well.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
This changes by the hour so I literally can't answer this question. Maybe Aziraphale/Crowley?
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?
Hm, I have a few unfinished fics on AO3, but I've already admitted that those won't be finished. I have a Sirius/Bellatrix + Sirius/Remus fic in my drafts folder that it would be nice to finish someday, but that will have to wait until I feel like writing Wolfstar again (which will probably be never, thanks to the Remus apologists).
16. What are your writing strengths?
None.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Everything.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?
Well, I know that it used to be standard that you would italicize it, and now you're not supposed to do that, so I no longer do. I also think that you shouldn't translate it! Especially not right there in the same line on the fic. If you're writing dialogue in another language, context clues should tell us enough about what the characters are saying that translation isn't needed.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Star Trek: TNG.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
I never like anything I write, so idk. Price of Memory, maybe, because that one was at least a lot of fun to write.

Little Freak
A kazujun short
I was thinkin' about who you are
Your delicate point of view
I was thinkin' about you
His heart was beating as gentle as it could be, yet with how gentle it was, its thumping was the only thing he could feel in the middle of the night. There was nothing much that could be done when the world around you slumbered sound. And so with the emptiness, he drifted off to fill in his thoughts of the first thing that could come to his mind. There were no surprises nor any resistances. He already knew that he was bound to be thinking of her. It's something he always do over and over again which he generously lets himself do. Until he grows tired of it that he could finally stop— at least that's what he tells himself.
I'm not worried about where you are
Who you go home to
I'm just thinkin' about you
He would indulge himself of the thought of Jun. Just a face and a name that he would retain in his brain for as long as he could. Nothing more but the appearance of Jun running in his mind. He stayed away from thinking about memories with her nor any scenarios he could think off to fill in his curiosity of where she could be or what she could be doing in the present time. He was painfully aware of the grief that would cost him to feel, and so he would never let his thoughts wander that far. In the present time in which he was finally out of her life, he just knew she was living much better. There were endless possibilities of where she could be, and he knew better than to find his place in her life. What they had was far gone for him to yearn for another chance of what they used to share together.
And so tonight, his heart beat gently as the thought of Jun rested in his mind.
---
Idk where else to post this since it felt too short to be in my one-shots collection in ao3, so I decided to just post it here. It's just about a very brief moment of Kazuya, during his time away from civilization as he gets experimented on by G corp, thinking about Jun.
Little Freak is a song by Harry Styles and I've had this on repeat lately. It's actually one of my favorite songs too. The chorus fits this particular Kazuya scenario perfectly so I decided to push through writing this very short short (can't even call it a fic because it's literally so short). The rest of the song doesn't, so I stuck with just the chorus.
Anyway, I missed writing so much. I got so much more to do this week but just had to write something so I took some time to do this and warm up to writing fics again. Maybe I'll find the time to write some more since I earned some momentum thanks to writing this.
If anyone wants to check out the song:
