#idk i just like the idea of a 'school is hard sometimes!' studyblr community of some kind

I want to find other langblrs and studyblrs to follow but it's bothering me that the studyblr tag especially is so...... academic grind mindset, I guess. Like, posts saying a 4.0 is always possible (no actually, it isn't for everyone) or going on about prestigious universities (I got into a famous one and then had to withdraw from it entirely due to burnout) and people geenerally acting like being academic is synonymous with perfect grades and prestige.
I used to really buy into that mindset and it was awful for me, and now I'm a two-time dropout struggling through trying to go back to school to finish my degree and desperately hoping my grades and brain are still okay enough for grad school when I finish. I used to be a great student, but I have ADHD and autism and a host of other things going on in my brain (and life) that just aren't really conducive to being that kind of an academic.
But I still love learning and want to spend more time in the learning corner of tumblr! I don't think being mentally ill and neurodivergent and struggling with school means you can't romanticize being a student a bit and have a fun time sharing what you're reading and learning with people. I like that aspect. Langblr especially has been a bit more my speed, and if I'm following you (as astriiformes) it's because I think you're cool and have a healthier relationship with academics and academia. Ideally I'd love to make a nice little corner of us who can encourage each other through our various challenges with school, and be open about how sometimes it's a hard time!
But oof. Here I was hoping studyblr would be a nice space to motivate myself and instead it's making me a bit melancholy about what I used to want vs what I've actually been capable of so far. And I bet I'm not the only one and that makes me a bit sad.
#hesitant to put this in the main tags but like? i kind of want to see if it resounds with some other folks?#so for now at least#studyblr#i'm also kind of wondering if like. making a fun challenge or discord server or something to connect people#who have had a harder time with school but still love learning (or who like our vibe and still want to hang with us)#could be a neat thing to do#idk i just like the idea of a 'school is hard sometimes!' studyblr community of some kind#and would love to get to know some of you feel the same

11 Questions Tag
Tagged by @nicola-studies, thanks!! My answers are quite long but that’s okay.
Rules:
- Answer these 11 questions.
- Create 11 of your own.
- Tag 11 people.
Questions:
1. What do you have for breakfast in the morning?
I usually have an egg, sometimes with bread, and some 粥/zhou (I don’t know an english food equivalent to it but it’s like a soup with rice, beans, sweet potatoes, and peanuts). I don’t really eat fruit, yogurt, or cereal in the morning.
2. When you’re sad, what’s one thing you do that always makes you feel better?
I like to watch videos on Youtube or a movie or read something. Typically, I’ll watch something funny or interesting on Youtube as a distraction. I don’t really talk to my friends when I’m sad because I don’t want them to be involved.
3. What is your happy place?
My room because it’s comfortable and private, school because I have some really amazing and funny friends, and yeah.
4. Where did your passion for what you’re studying come from?
I don’t know what I want to study since I’m still in grade 9. I mean, I really like chemistry, biology, history, and business. My passions for those classes are because a) they’re interesting, b) some of their concepts are like really mind-blowing?? if that’s a thing or like out of this world?? idk, and c) I really like the teachers b/c they seem to really have a passion for the course.
5. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
My memory of my childhood is pretty bad but I think my careers always circled around a doctor, astronaut, science-y or math-y type of career. I’m Asian so you can guess why they were my career choices just kidding.
6. What are your study habits/patterns like?
My study habits and patterns are really, really, really bad. Like, you’d think I study at least somewhat but sometimes I don’t even study at all or do like minimal effort. I don’t have an exact study routine or plan and I often find that it’s hard for me to keep up with one (aka my previous exams plan). It’s really just sporadic.
As for other habits, I 95% of the time listen to music (chill playlists on Soundcloud or kpop) and I mainly work at the desk in my room. There’s always water nearby, but not so much food.
7. Who do you look up to?
Hmmm, this one is kind of hard? Like, I look up to different people at different times. I look up to my parents because they’re extremely hard working, to my smart, organized, and charismatic friends since they work 110% and they can communicate their ideas very well, and to people who are extremely passionate about something.
8. When did you join tumblr? Have you been apart of any other blog styles/communities?
I originally joined the studyblr community in, I think, 2016? However, I never posted anything and just browsed for like inspiration. I created a new account (this one) at the end of March this year/2018. As for any other blogs/communities, not on tumblr but I have been part of the minecraft and art communities. All of which I am not a part of anymore.
9. What do your parents do for work?
I’m not very comfortable revealing too much information, but one of them is a business partner and the other works for the city.
10. What is one thing that you wish you were really good at?
There’s lots of things that I wish that I was good at because I’m not good at very much, but if there was one thing then I would boil it down to being a charismatic and organized leader. Like, I’m not really shy but it still is tough when presenting or leading something. I want to go into business too so I really need to improve on this.
11. Top 3 things on your bucket list?
#1: travel to countries in Europe (Greece, Italy (due to mythology), Germany, and the Netherlands) and Asia (S.Korea, Japan, and somewhere in South Eastern Asia).
#2: similar to the first one but to go traveling with friends!!
#3: a more realistic and short-term one but to get a job!
My Questions:
1. What are three basic facts about you?
2. What do you like best about the way you study?
3. What’s your go to thing when studying?
4. Name three places you’d like to go to.
5. Are you learning any languages? If so, how are you learning them?
6. Would you choose between an okay-ish job that makes a lot of money and spares enough time for hobbies, or a job that you love but is unstable and has a low salary?
7. What are your favourite books? Which ones are you currently reading or want to read?
8. How would you praise someone’s work ethic?
9. Are you a hamburger or hotdog person or neither?
10. Write three things you like about yourself.
11. What is something that you really want to try?
Tagging:
If you want to do this and I didn’t tag you then feel free to msg me and I’ll add your name here! It’s definitely not because I don’t know anybody on here.

Hey I'm new to studyblr and I really wanna do graphic design when I finish high school and I saw that's what you are learning at the moment and now I'm all excited!! Can I ask how you are going with it and what you most enjoy and most dislike about it? Idk I just am really keen to learn all about how it is 😂💕
Hi! Ahh I’m so excited FOR you!! :D
I’m going to break this down into a list so I don’t ramble too long haha (but honestly now that you’re asking you’re gonna get me started and boy do I mean STARTED here we go)
What I Enjoy Most
Art... but with PURPOSE! I love to think and solve problems, so applying that love with art is so awesome to me!
Seeing good design and getting inspired (makes me excited)
Getting taught new ways to do things. Physical mediums like screen printing and how to scan in your illustrations has definitely given me more ideas for the future, hehe. Also learning new shortcuts or things in programs that make work 10x faster to produce is always helpful!
Being able to use my illustration skills in my designs!
Sometimes when I’m coding websites I lose track of time and end up going at that for half the day (and even when I’m doing sketches for concepts), and honestly I kind of love those moments. It’s just something that I really enjoy doing that I can do forEVER sometimes haha
The friends I’ve made are also fantastic. I’m sure this is for any field, but just the feeling of talking to other people about design is so neat! I’ve definitely made friends on here, too!
I love it when I put something on the board for critique and there are a few classmates that go “omg that looks so GOOD” or if my professor says “you did a REALLY good job! I love how you did [insert thing here]” because it just makes all the work feel more worth it!
I love to push concepts. It’s funny because my professors always say “PUSH IT” so now that’s just what I say all the time in reference to trying to make concepts/ideas more fun, crazy, or clever. Making that jump from “good” to “WOW” is such a great feeling.
Learning about paper choices was awesome because when you print something on nice, textured, and/or colored paper it is SO different from what you see on the screen. Or really just seeing all of the work finally fully produced is such a good feeling.
Giving feedback to other people and seeing their work/thought process. Usually what’ll happen in critique is that everyone’s work will go up on the board for everyone else to see, and then the hamster wheel in my head starts spinning for everyone else’s projects LOL. I get super inspired by my peers and I also love to give them ideas or let them know what I’m thinking, haha.
What I Dislike (just mini rants at this point)
If I’m stuck I get really really stuck. I’ll eventually get out of it, but I just hate that moment when I’m trying to figure something out (let’s say a logo) but no matter what I do it doesn’t look “right”. UGH. Hard work and inspiration digging gets me out of it but I just hate when it happens
The long nights I’ve pulled for projects lol
3-hour long critiques... okay like I don’t DISLIKE them, but when it’s a 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM class and we slowly talk about each person’s work for that long and you went near the beginning, you get pretty bored/tired pretty quickly. Most times I like to contribute feedback a lot, but if I just got done pulling an all-nighter or there isn’t much to say I’d rather just keep working on my own stuff or sleep
Working on something that I don’t have a good concept for. It just feels like I’m doing it for nothing if it doesn’t have a good concept/idea I guess.
Getting bad feedback. Not getting bad feedback as in “constructive criticism”, I mean like “oh that looks good” being my only feedback for a 3-hour class and everyone else gets 15-minute sessions of what they could do with their work. It’s technically a good thing because that means I’m going in the right direction, but it also just kind of sucks if you spent a lot of time on it and the only talk about the project is “oh good job” and that’s it I guess? I wouldn’t mind as much if they also told me WHY they liked it I guess is what it is.
Lectures on things I already know about. A repetitive lecture/tutorial honestly kills me inside to the point that I end up doing something else while in class (talking about you web design 1 class). Like there’s literally no point in being in a 3 hour class studio if the time is spent reviewing something I already know.
Drama in my tiny class-size (there’s 13 of us going into senior year of the program). Like it’s such a small class that everyone knows that there’s beef or something up with the other people when it happens. Literally can’t avoid it.
Overall Experience
I have loved everything I’ve learned.
The friendships I’ve made are fantastic
The growth that happens when your inner lightbulb goes off is almost shocking
I almost surprise myself sometimes when it comes to my own projects. Mostly because I usually build up to an idea and then when you see the beginning sketches vs. the final product you just go “WOAH, I’ve come a long way!”
I’ve literally fallen in love with Graphic Design and I feel so motivated to do anything in the field (including projects I’m involved with in the studyblr/studioblr community!)
omg I hope you enjoyed my long talk but when you get me started I am STARTED. Feel free to ask more questions and I’d be very happy to respond!
