i think using the "power of friendship" as a criticism can be valid sometimes in fairy tail, and i do agree that sometimes it gets a bit ridiculous. but it is literally part of the magic system. magic in fairy tail is impacted by the casters emotions. there's even an explanation for that; all magic is born from the One Magic, the original magic, and it is heavily implied that the One Magic is love. like i get that some moments are kinda bs and some deaths should have happened, but isn't that beautiful and interesting? isn't a magic system built on the power of emotions kind of intriguing and lovely and beautiful? not only does it make fights more impactful, its such a lovely devise to explore characters and interactions. its such a smart way to explore humanity in a world of monsters and magic in my opinion. that's why i don't think it is just my nostalgia goggles that make me love fairy tail. i think it is a beautiful story of love and magic and adventures and family.
