Okay, I have a three-part response to this.

Part 1: The Main Sentiment

Part 2: Shameless Self-Plugging

Maybe it would be a bit presumptuous to promise you my smut is excellent, but I can at least promise you that I put my entire switch and vers gay soul into being extremely in love with both my tops and bottoms, both my doms and subs, and into giving them many feelings about all of this, easy and difficult ones.

I have a BDSM T4T series (https://archiveofourown.org/series/3264934) that can be read fandom blind and that is mostly porn without plot, so there's not as big of dialogue/narration about this topic, they are there in the background, but all fics have aftercare scenes in which it's clear that both characters may need aftercare. (Fic 2 is almost exclusively bottom/sub aftercare from the top/dom, Fic 1 and 3 are mostly top/dom aftercare from the bottom/sub, and Fic 4 has some care/help/support to a novice dom from the experienced dom as they share a sub.)

I have a series with some long fics but also a number of one-shot smut (https://archiveofourown.org/series/2918376) that can be read fandom blind where the main character is a sappy mostly top who also is much into service topping (and I don't mean that as in subbing as a top, but really as is, being at the service of, which imo can be a dom thing, it's more a matter of who's pleasure is being put at the centre to me). There is one fic of his first time with a man (https://archiveofourown.org/works/44161606) that among other things addresses the realisation that both his partner and himself before that point have never really acknowledged that sex could be vulnerable for him too, and that he's always assumed and have been assumed to have to be the one to be careful and never been on the receiving end of this. There is one fic of him hooking up once as a top and once as a bottom with a trans guy (https://archiveofourown.org/works/40721961) where the difference for him between both of those things is discussed, and also that shows the very different way they both do it, with the other guy being more controlling and self-centred (I really don't mean that in a bad way, again, I think that preferences regarding whose pleasure is at the front if anyone's is core to the diversity of sexual dynamics and there's no right or wrong way if everyone is having fun, see pillow princesses and stone butches for example) regardless of the position while he's more of service and selfless regardless of the position. There are a bunch of other fics in the series, and in non-smut ones the question of various relationships to queerness and gender and everything is central, but those are the most sex-related ones.

And finally, I have a series (https://archiveofourown.org/series/2394742) that is not really fandom blind (it's Naruto) because the fics that this is discussed in are long fics with a lot of plot, but if you want to raw dog this and only read the smut scene talking about this accepting that some plot point in them will be obscure, I'll give you the chapter ref. The character this is centred about has exclusively bottomed thus far and is usually in a sub position, by genuine preferences in part, but also a shitload of trauma. So this isn't so much about tops and doms, but it is about him trying once to somewhat dom (https://archiveofourown.org/works/35525683, chapter 9, starting at "His fingers fumble around") and once trying to top (https://archiveofourown.org/works/46041961/, all of chapter 10) with discussion/internal monologue about how this feels a lot harder for him than bottoming and subbing.

Now I'd like also to write some thoughts and feelings I have on the matter but tumblr already deleted this wip post once while I was writing, so I'm not going to tempt my luck, I'm going to post this, and then I'll post the part 3 in a second reblog lmao.

In the meantime (or at any point in life), if you have recs of fics that are either naruto or fandom blind enough and that love their tops/doms or have discussions regarding topping/bottoming, domming/subbing in general, please feel free to tell me I'd love to hear about it!

I wish more fanfic writers were empathetic to tops and doms. I think a lack of empathy there explains a lot of the fandom discourse around the idea that it’s racist to make characters with darker skin the top or seme or whatever.

Part of why it bothers people, I think, is that in fandom spaces—for a variety of reasons—people have somehow come to a consensus that it’s fine to have submissive and degradation oriented fantasies, but not fantasies about making someone submit or doing the degrading. SOME people don’t let themselves think about the interiority of those that could actually deliver them what they want, sexually. And I don’t even just mean actual sex! I can tell when a fic author actually gets off on topping or domming. Those people are kind of rare in fandom, but their fics really stand out if you know what you’re looking for. Side note—I think there’s a lot of untapped potential in whump writers, who could probably write really wonderful nasty smut, but who are ashamed of writing something sexual and worried about backlash (so they just stick to narrative torture for now).

If you instinctively think that writing a character as a top or dom means they’re incapable of having interiority or complexity because YOU can’t write a compelling top or dom character for shit, then you might also think that any writing of people of color as tops or doms is inherently bad or offensive writing. And this is sad for everyone, but it’s especially sad for the actual tops and doms of color in the real world who have to read people saying that they don’t exist, or that characters who feel like them are offensive and racist.

Ironically, the people who claim that writing a character of color as a top or dom automatically makes that character a racist or brutish stereotype are reenforcing that stereotype. I want to see more compellingly written top and dom characters who have actual wants and conflicts. Give me more woobie, extremely emotional doms. Give me self esteem issues, or the struggles of being mistreated by subs, or feeling reduced to what they can provide sexually but not seen as a good person outside of that, please.

tldr; I wish more people knew that it’s not an insult to write a character as a top or dom, and therefore that it’s not an insult to write a character of color as a top or dom.

911 ep 707 first watch reactions

Oh man, I'm actually not sure I have that much to say about this ep.

The entire plot with Mara and her brother Tyson was very sweet, very nice, and way too convenient. One day, shows are going to stop using the phrase, "There must be something you can do!" like it's some secret magic phrase, that makes this sentiment into a reality, AND turns the person addressed into someone willing to risk everything, in order to do that one thing they can do, which is usually something they're very much not supposed to... That said, Denny was sweet, Mara was lovely, her with Tyson was very endearing, and Henren continued to rule.

The storyline with Maddie was nicely handled, both her trauma, and the way Chim helped her use it to figure out the case and help save everyone from the stalker. My little Madney heart absolutely loved it. And Maddie's distress over a baby involved felt very real and understandable, when she's a mom herself now.

But then in a sense, it was clear this has no long term repercussions, other than bringing Brad into contact with Bobby. With his burn scars, and what we know about the fire that Bobby caused in the past, we can guess where this is headed. I trust that 911 will delve into this coming clash with the same humaneness with which it tackles most storylines.

But I'll be honest, I don't really like where Eddie's headed. I know Shannon scarred him deeply, but he was able to let go of her, and allow her to walk away from him twice while she was alive. It's weird if it's now being implied that the reason why he was never able to move on to another serious r/s is that he was stuck on her. The way she died was traumatic and painful, and it made sense that, even accepting that they as a couple were over, he had a hard time dealing with her death, but Eddie seemingly moved on in s4 at the latest. It feels a bit like they don't really know what to do with him, and how to move him on, so they keep going in circles with his character. Kinda like they were with Buck in s6. None of what we saw in that season helped Buck get to some major breakthroughs that we've seen in this one, so this current storyline with Eddie might end in the same way.

I'm not saying it doesn't have the potential to move him forward, and I'm sure it will be presented as if it has whether it actually does or doesn't (kinda like how 618 presented Buck and Natalia as a move forward, even though it very obviously was not), but right now, I'm not enjoying it. I also... even with this idea of having Eddie run into a Shannon look-a-like, I feel they could have gone in a lot of different ways, and the one where he goes on a date with her while having a serious gf he's essentially cheating on, it just doesn't feel great, or true to Eddie's values. Which can be the point, right? That sometimes we're so shaken up, we do stuff that's uncharacteristic. If that's where they'll take it, then it's working, 'coz right now, everything about this feels a little off. Let's hope they do something actually constructive with this, and give Eddie real progress (rather than just give Tim an opportunity to re-use an actress he already said he really likes).

Small mandatory Buddifer moment was really lovely, even if far from what my shipper heart would want. Then again, I honestly feel it's so funny that Buck is dating Tommy, while being married to Eddie, his actual baby daddy. If there aren't a lot of fics shipping all three men already, then IDK fandom.

You’ve been a bartender at the same bar on Rishi since you were ten years old. Your parents had debts to the bar owner, and they sold you to make up for it. Well, you and your siblings.

You’re the lucky one.

Your…owner? Guardian? Whatever he is, he treats you like a beloved granddaughter. He buys you clothes and food and allows you to go to school…and until you reached the age of majority at 18, you only had to work four hours a night four days a week. 

He even paid for you to go to college, and he pays you well enough that you have your own home here on Rishi.

You’re lucky.

Your older brother, you know, ended up becoming a gladiator in the Outer Rim, and last you heard he’s an enforcer for the Hutt Cartel. Your older sister, however, became a drug runner for a Spice Cartel and last you heard she’s moving from rehab center to rehab center.

You’re lucky.

Maybe if you repeat it often enough, you’ll believe it.

All things considered, Rishi isn’t the worst place to spend your life. The area you live in is warm and bright and right on the water. Not to mention you’ve got several friends here that you would miss if you left…or if the Empire decides to actually deal with the pirate problem.

You’re not worried though.

The Republic’s war with the Separatists barely touched Rishi afterall, aside from having a single watch station that has been abandoned for years now.

And you don’t expect that the Empire will push too much.

Your gaze drifts from the food stall that you’re visiting, lingering on the small, almost overgrown, old Republic comm station. Once upon there had been five men stationed there. Hevy, Droidbait, Cutup, Fives, and Echo.

While you had some concerns as to how the pirates of Rishi would react to obvious soldiers spending time in their bars…people were surprisingly okay with them. More than one of them getting an offer to join different crews.

A small smile lifts your lips at the memory of your boys laughingly turning down offers of pirate crew memberships.

The Dominos had been Rishi’s, more so than the Republics, and people raged when they heard that they died.

First when Droidbait and Cutup died, and then later when they heard that Hevy was killed on Kamino. And then even later when Echo was blown up, and then Fives was killed-

Fives’ death was kind of the final straw for Rishi. 

Even now, the Pirates of Rishi are more than happy to raid imperial vessels, in honor of their Dominos.

You step around a group of Mercs, all of whom have dominoes tattooed on their hands, and start to meander your way back to your home. You miss them. All of them.

But, if you’re going to be honest, you probably miss Echo the most.

He was a lot like his brothers, loud and boisterous, and always ready with a joke or a quip, or to finish a joke that his twin set up. He was always the first to greet you with a grin, and the last to say goodbye at the end of the night.

But, unlike his brothers, he flirted with you a little shyly, as though he wasn’t sure what he was doing.

It was charming and sweet, and you found yourself smitten with him. 

He didn’t, quite, get over his shyness with you even after the first time you invited him into your home with tempting kisses. He was still a little shy even after the tenth time you invited him into your home, and your bed, with teasing touches and adoring kisses.

You wanted forever with him, and you thought, hoped, that he wanted the same.

And then he left, and you never heard from him again.

You suppose, in a way, it makes sense. Why would a soldier want to slum it with a bartender who’s technically a slave.

Doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt.

After all, you still dream of forever with Echo. Only now, your dreams are definitely castles in the air.

After all, dead men don’t get happily ever afters.

“We need to land somewhere,” Tech says to his brothers, a frown on his face, “The damage to the ship is…far too severe for me to repair without landing.”

“Where can we land, though?” Wrecker asks, “It’s not like there are a large number of places that will accept us.”

Echo eyes the star map speculatively, “I…may have an idea.” He offers, as his gaze lands on a specific planet. A bright smile dances across your memory, and a loving laugh echoes in his ears.

He’s a kriffing fool.

Hopefully she won’t turn him away.

“Well?” Hunter prompts when Echo doesn’t continue right away.

“I think we should go to Rishi.” Echo says slowly.

“Rishi!” Tech sputters.

“That’s a pirate planet, Echo.” Hunter says, “They won’t react well-”

“Do you have a better idea?” Echo asks.

The room falls silent for a moment, and then Tech sighs, “It is up to you, Hunter. Rishi is the closest planet we can land on.”

Hunter pushes his hand through his hair, “Fine. Do it.”

An hour later, the Marauder lands on an open pad, and no one comes to the ship to speak to them. “Is this…normal?” Tech asks.

“Yeah, pretty much.” Echo replies with a shrug, “We should probably not wear our armor here,” He adds. He’s already changed into civilian attire, and he’s somewhat anxiously rubbing his arm just over where his scomp is attached. 

“Why?”

“Because our armor screams ‘clones’ and I’m not sure how the pirates will react to seeing clones now.” Echo replies dryly, “I’ve heard rumors of Rishi based Pirates raiding Republic and Imperial transports lately.”

Hunter agrees that it’s a reasonable precaution, and they all hurriedly change into civilian attire, before they get off the ship, with Omega clinging to Wrecker’s hand. And then, almost as one, they turn to Echo.

Echo sighs and rubs the back of his head, and then he turns and heads deeper into the city.

Some things have changed, new people, new stalls, but most everything else is the same. He pauses in front of a specific bar, and peers in, his dark eyes scanning the faces of the bartenders for a moment, before he motions for his brothers to follow him some more.

“Are you lookin’ for someone?” Wrecker asks.

“Yeah. Someone who, hopefully, won’t be too angry at me and will be willing to help.” Echo says.

“A friend?” Omega asks.

“Yeah, something like that.”

Echo leads them away from the shops and docks, and over to a row of apartments. He scans the buildings for a moment, before he turns and heads to one of the smaller buildings, and he stops in front of a plain door, with flower boxes in the windows.

His lips curl up in a small smile, Fives made those flower boxes early one morning when he was hyped up on Caf. They were crooked and lopsided, but it looks like she kept them. Though it looks like she painted them. “Wait here.” Echo says to his siblings, before he walks over to the door, and he knocks twice.

“Just a moment!” Her voice comes from the other side of the door, and Echo doesn’t fight his smile.

She sounds exactly the same. 

Stars, please don’t let her be too mad.

The door slides open, “Yes? Can I help yo-” She stops mid-sentence when she sees who’s standing there, “...Echo?”

“You grew your hair out,” Echo replies, a small smile lifting his lips, “It looks good. You look amazing. I’m sure you have a question or twenty, cyar’ika-”

Echo’s not able to finish his sentence as she flings her arms around him and crashes her lips against his. His arms fold tightly around her and he immediately kisses her back, and it’s almost as if no time has passed at all. 

If he focuses, he can almost hear Fives wolf-whistling and hear Cutup making lewd comments.

And then reality snaps back into place when he hears Tech’s dry voice, “Ah. That kind of friend.”

Echo carefully pulls back, and reaches up to gently cup her cheek, using his thumb to brush a tear away, “I’m sorry for not comming you, cyar’ika.”

She shakes her head, “We were told that you died.” She whispers, “Fives said…” She trailed off, “And then Fives died, and, kriff, the death of the last Domino started a war between the pirates of Rishi and the Republic/Empire, why would you bring them here?”

“Our ship is damaged-” Echo started.

“Get in. In. All of you!” She drags Echo into her home, and she doesn’t shut the door until Hunter is in the apartment as well. “Honestly Echo,” She rounds on him, “If you commed I would have told you to go literally anywhere else.”

“I wasn’t sure you’d answer.” Echo replies.

There are pictures of her with Echo, and with the rest of the dominoes on the walls. There are also pictures of her with a large, scarred man. And of her with a too slender woman.

“What do you need? I can probably get most of the materials sent to your ship.” She says.

“I have a list.” Tech offers as he hands her his datapad.

She copies it and sends the list to several of her friends, “Alright, you should have most, if not all, of what you need by the morning.”

“Are we in danger here?”

“On Rishi specifically? No. Not so long as you don’t draw attention to yourself.” She replies, “I’d offer to let you spend the night, but I don’t have much room.”

“We can stay on the ship,” Tech replies.

“Echo, are you going to stay here?” Omega asks.

Echo doesn’t take his gaze off of his cyar’ika, “If I’m allowed?”

“I’ve never turned you away before.” She counters.

Echo smiles at her, “Do you remember the way back to the docks?”

“I remember.” Tech says, “Come on.”

The door opens, and then closes again, leaving Echo alone with his cyar’ika.

She smiles at him, soft and warm and slow, “You used to be shyer about public displays of affection.”

“I used to have legs and two hands too,” Echo replies, it's a weak joke, but a joke all the same. “I’m so sorry I never commed you.” He says after a moment, “I thought…it felt cruel, reaching out to you when I couldn’t actually touch you.”

“It’s okay.”

“It’s not.”

“Echo. I forgive you.” She walks over to him and she kisses him as if no time has passed at all, all loving and soft and sweet.

She’s always been unfairly tempting. Her lips and her touch encourage him to stay and enjoy what she’s offering. And Echo has always been helpless to deny her. 

He’s not surprised when he falls into her bed, her lips needy against his.

She rolls so that she’s facing him properly, “Echo, your brothers don’t know me. And if I had to guess, your ship is pretty small. Me going with you isn’t fair to them.”

“You deserve more.” Echo repeats.

“I don’t like life is about what we deserve,” She replies, as she reaches up to cup his face, “So, in the morning, you’re going to return to your ship, to your brothers…and you’re going to leave Rishi. And you’re going to go back to not comming me, and it’s just how it’s going to be.”

“No.”

“Echo.” She sighs his name, and he shifts so he’s looking right in her eyes.

“No.” He repeats, “I’ve given up so much. My body, my batchmates, my twin. I’m not giving you up. Let me be greedy. Just about this one thing.”

She sighs again, but she looks touched. “How about…a deal?”

“What kind of deal?”

“My contract with my…owner is coming to an end. At the end of the year, I’ll have made enough to pay off my parents' tab with him.” She says softly, “On that day, I will comm you and come to where you are. No matter where you might be.”

“Do you promise?”

She laughs softly, “Echo, I’ve been dreaming of forever with you since the first day we met. Now that I have the chance to have it, it would take an act of god to stop me.”

Echo crashes his lips against hers, “I want forever too,” He breathes against her lips, “So we have a deal.”

hi thank you! idk if you've gone through my #gay tom tag but i have a lot on tom's closetedness/repression in there, and i need to go through my greg posts and put the #gay greg tag on more of them but i've got that too. in any case i'll still summarize here:

firstly, i wanna say i sincerely do not think almost any gay person gets to adulthood while having had no idea. repression is like pushing information to a part of your brain that you don't access, not destroying that information altogether. tom is in his 40s and greg is like 30, so, yeah, they know. it's just about different levels of knowing.

basically i think that for both of them there's a wall between them and their awareness of their homosexuality, but greg's isn't nearly as strong for many reasons including that imo he's definitely actually had some gay experience. i've waffled a lot on exactly how much, but i would say greg has likely had many of them while stoned, which is the sort of thing that would be likely to give him not only the confidence but also the "excuse." idk if i think that greg has ever actually had a boyfriend, but i also can't definitively say he hasn't. i do think that if he did, it didn't end well. really with greg in particular i get big vibes that he's had gay experience that "proved" to him that being gay was bad and/or that men weren't safe partners - something like his first gay kiss being with a guy who also beat him up after the fact, or an attempted date at a gay bar winding up mugging him. and i do think that he hooked up in some way with andrew dodds while they smoked weed together too, so. him winding up dying the next night feels right along those lines. i think he goes back and forth on whether he's too ashamed of being gay to be conscious of the fact really fast.

I think after Steve's sort of growing up phase, he became very aware of how much commitment means to people. I think once he reached college age, he'd be more likely to be in a long-term relationship.

I think he'd have a specific timeline for when he'd want to get married. Two years of dating, a year to eighteen months of engagement, and then marriage.

G = Gentle (how gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

He's very gentle with other people. He has a hard time understanding that men can be gentle with themselves, they don't always have to man up, but he always makes it a point to be gentle with other people.

H = Hugs (do they like hugs? how often do they do it? what are their hugs like?)

He loves hugs. He's never gonna be the one to go out and seek hugs because again, he's a ✨️man✨️ but if you come to him for a hug, he's gonna bask in it the entire time it's happening.

I = I Love You (how fast do they say the L-word?)

Idk why, but I just feel like he'd wait until your first time to say it. In his mind, it would just make it so much more special.

J = Jealousy (how jealous do they get? what do they do when they’re jealous?)

He's only jealous if there's a reason. If some guy walks up and starts talking to you, he's not gonna be jealous. But if he were to eye you up and down or start flirting with you, that's when the jealousy would get switched on.

I actually thought up a scenario for jealous!Steve so here's that. Hope you enjoy! ❤️

Say you're at the mall together one day, looking for dresses for a party. His parents are throwing a nice dinner party and Steve couldn't help but get you a new dress.

You're looking through the rack when your eyes land on a beautiful black dress. Suddenly, a guy walks by. "That dress would look stunning on your figure, gorgeous."

Suddenly, you want to throw up at the sight of the black dress. No matter how hard you could ever try, you'd always think of this disgusting, creepy man every time you saw in your closet.

Steve to the rescue!!! He steps around the rack with a gorgeous red dress. It would look absolutely amazing on you and it was darn near the exact color of Steve's favorite tie. "I agree, the black would look stunning on you, babe. But this red... You'd drive all those other girls at the party to sheer insanity as they try to figure out how you were blessed with such beauty," he'd say before leaving a long kiss to your lips.

Needless to say, that was the end of disgusting, creepy man.

K = Kisses (what are their kisses like? where do they like to kiss you? where do they like to be kissed?)

His kisses definitely depend on the vibes. Sometimes, he'll give you casual pecks, sometimes he'll give you needier, longer kisses. Really just depends on the vibes and what each of you needs.

He loves to kiss you on the forehead and cheeks. He loves to watch your face heat up and your cheeks turn pink with delight.

He loves being kissed on the lips. Cheesy I know, but he just loves when you take control and you're the one driving the kiss.

L = Little Ones (how are they around children?)

I imagine him growing up in a huge family. He was the oldest of the cousins, but he always hung out with the younger cousins at family functions because all the cousins his own age had already been brainwashed into thinking they were entitled just because they were Harringtons. So he'd always hang out with the younger kids, who absolutely ADORED him.

M = Morning (how are mornings spent with them?)

He's always the first one to wake up. He'll lie there beside you silently, until the last possible minute, when he wakes you up by covering your face in kisses. Finally, when you're awake, he lands a kiss on your lips with a, "Good morning, my love."

He might not be a good cook, but he always makes it a point to make you breakfast. While you shower up, he makes one of the only foods he's mastered: scrambled eggs. He'll pop some bread into the toaster on the setting you like best. He'll make you tea or coffee or juice or whatever your preferred breakfast drink is.

Once you're both finished with breakfast, he'll drive you to work, even if your job is all the way across town. He'll put on some soft music on the radio and hold your hand in his, the other on the steering wheel. You're his passenger princess, and you both know it.

N = Night (how are nights spent with them?)

Your nights together are very much a juxtaposition of your mornings. You'll cook dinner while he showers up after work, slightly louder music playing on the radio to keep you awake.

After dinner, you'll cuddle up on the couch with a bowl of ice cream, watching the latest episode of the show you've both been obsessed with.

Once your show goes off, he'll grab your hand in his and lead you to the bathroom, both of you standing in your respective places in the bathroom, just brushing your teeth in the comfortable silence of each other.

Finally, you make it to bed, his side being the closest to the door in case anyone ever breaks in so he can protect you 🫶🏻 you both just snuggle up together, your legs intertwined, your arm slung over his belly. He's always the first one asleep too, so you'll be lying beside him, just listening to the soft puffs escaping his lips, until you fall asleep beside him, your arm never leaving his torso.

O = Open (when do they reveal things about themself? do they say everything at once or reveal things slowly?)

He's definitely built walls over the years. Every time he enters a new relationship, he becomes that much more guarded, his biggest fear being that he'll confess all his secrets and then his s/o will hate him and leave him.

You definitely have to pick him apart, piece by piece and brick by brick. But once you get it out of him, he'll never hold back another thing from you ever again.

P = Patience (how easily angered are they?)

He knows how much being yelled at can hurt a person so he never yells at you. He's also a rsspecter of boundaries so he knows to let you have your space when the two of you argue.

Q = Quizzes (how much would they remember about you— every little detail heard in passing, or forget everything?)

After all the upside down stuff, he suffers from chronic brain fog so he can never remember anything on his own. However, he always keeps a notepad in his lunchbag or on his desk or wherever it's in his line of sight so he can remember to write down the details he knows he'll need later.

R = Remember (what is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

Probably your first time. Not in a pervy way, of course, he just remembers how special it was. Two bodies intertwined for the first time, a level of intimacy never before shared, a sense of love and passion he could've never imagined you'd have for him.

S = Security (how protective are they? how would they protect you? how would they like to be protected?)

He's very protective. He always keeps his bat by the bed for emergencies. He'll always stand in front of you if he thinks something's going to happen to you. He's always going to make sure you're OK before he is.

T = Try (how much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

He's a people pleaser, I feel like so he always goes above and beyond for date night.

However, I do feel like you'd each take turns planning out date night. One Saturday he'd plan, one Saturday you'd plan, and one Saturday you'd share the responsibilities and plan together. He made up the plan and you went along easily.

U = Ugly (what would be some bad habits of theirs?)

He's a nail biter, I can't be convinced otherwise.

V = Vanity (how concerned are they with their looks?)

He's concerned with his looks but only because he wants to look nice for you and for other people. Again, he's very much a people pleaser.

W = Whole (would they feel incomplete without you?)

Always. If you ever had to spend even a night apart, he'd feel incomplete. If there was a day you decided to drive yourself to work, his whole system would be thrown off. He's a creature of habit, and one second without you in the picture would make him go stir crazy.

X = Xtra (a random headcanon for them.)

He loves shopping of any kind. His favorite date is grocery shopping and going home to make dinner together. He loves taking you to the mall and spoiling you with everything you touch. He just loves shopping.

But he's also very good at budgeting. I think one of the only things Steve liked learning in school was percentages and numbers so he always makes sure he has enough money to spoil you before he ever even brings up the idea of shopping.

Y = Yuck (what are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

In general, he's a mayonnaise hater. He's a mustard-only kinda guy.

In a partner, probably someone who is sloppy. As previously mentioned, he grew up in a house that was always kept spick and span so he wouldn't know how to function with a partner who didn't at least make some sort of effort to help him keep the place clean.

Z = Zzz (what is a sleep habits of theirs?)

He never sleeps with socks on unless it's his favorite pair of socks.

hi! mostly i was referring to characterizations of the song twins and wylie and maruca. obviously posts about the issues with linh and tam have been made many times before. for the most part i think that problems with the song twins come from canon itself, but i think people in general need to be more conscientious when looking at their characters and the stereotypes that are already in them :)

and for wylie and maruca, i can't really speak on stereotypes and biases that the fandom has for them as a non-black person, but i just feel like they get put aside by the fandom a lot despite being major characters (wylie in particular)

i really feel like wylie should be an incredibly popular character in this fandom. i mean, he's just got so much... angst about him. you guys love angst. i feel like people take what makes his character so interesting and the hurt and loss that comes with him and just slap it onto another non-black character.

obviously not everyone has to be in love with wylie. but i think the reason such a hurt-and-comfort fic generating machine is ignored so much is because as a black male, he's automatically viewed as more masculine than other characters. therefore he can't be the fandom's "boohoo sad wet sopping cat" character like fitz or keefe, even though HE IS LITERALLY THE DEFINITION OF SOPPING WET SAD GOT KIDNAPPED AND TORTURED DEAD MOM FUCKED DAD WHAT ELSE DO YOU GUYS WANT FROM HIM!!!!!!!!

tldr: the song twin's characters have pretty obvious bias and stereotypes that the fandom needs to be more aware of, wylie isn't popular despite his sad cat-ness because black men are seen as more masculine, maruca's characterization makes me uncomfortable in general but idk how to explain it

I'm just thinking out loud about things, please don't mind me.

I have a tendency to only blog about my life when it's going badly, and I mean it makes sense - in that sometimes you want to have a space to kind of think out loud and let it out. I'm sure most sane people journal or talk to a bff. I vent to an audience of strangers on the internet. Because I'm weird like that.

But, here's the thing, I'm not doing badly this time! Really, this is the sanest I've felt in a long time, and it's probably due to the fact that I've actually let myself rest (and got one part of my living space picked up). But I do have a lot of things on my mind, so this is me just kind of word vomiting about things kind of as an update as to where my life is at.

On Health: I think the tricky thing this year has been more my physical health than the mental. I'm mentally in a much better place than I was a year ago, and that's great. Now I have to get the physical side back in shape. I've had to run through different kinds of medication lately, and I think things might be straightened out? Also, I was sick most of last week, which didn't help. But I feel decent now - and I'm really hoping it'll stay that way, because I'm just so tired of not feeling well.

On Work: Work as been a lot. We fired the woman who was giving us problems - for anyone who wondered how that whole thing turned out. There's a lot of change happening, and some drama - which I've been grateful I have not been a part of. It's a lot. It's always a lot a lot a lot, but it's not Indiana. As hard and stressful as things can get here... it's not Indiana.

On Glee Things: Now that I'm kind of in a better mental space about it -- I think it'll be best if I just take a step back from any kind of community related thing. I think the thing I keep coming back to me is that Glee is just a part of me now. It's been with me for so long that it's very personal and between the weird up rising of fans who really are only seeing things in Black and White and the obtuse-ness of K and J's podcast sometimes I just can't with it anymore.

The tournament is going to play out quickly and then I'm done with that. Yes, I'm still writing. Yes, I'll still say my thoughts about the things Darren said. No, I'm never really going to go anywhere.

But I don't really want to be a part of the large fandom anymore.

That said -- I think what else has been bothering me is the fact that I miss so many people. The community that I was a part of just doesn't seem to be there anymore. And, I mean, I get it -- lots of people move on. Lots of people are busy. And there are a few of you that have been around and aren't going anywhere, either, and I do see you! But sometimes I wonder if I've come full circle in that I'm talking into an empty void again.

On X-Men things: Meanwhile, guys. I have a lot of thoughts. Marvel has always had a yo-yo effect on me, and I just have gone down the rabbit hole again. It's making me happy, and breaking my heart in the best possible way, and still making me happy. I apologize up front, because there are going to be a lot of X-Men things coming. (As usual, i'll tag it all)

On Reading: Idk, I just want to read more. I have a huge pile of things to read. And I just want to be more consistent about it.

On taking a freakin' break: My vacation is two weeks away. I'm going to take the pressure off myself and just let myself have a break, because I think that's what I really need.

Thankfully, it's spring, and this is my absolute favorite time of year as it gets warmer out.

The fight is sorta less intense than in the book, and I think that's mostly down to Leng's acting -- this was one of his weaker scenes so far. But it's fine, especially considering this was apparently the very first scene they shot (cf. the xwitter space that ran after the episode)

Currently Thinking About: Honestly? How the bridge in I'll Make a Man Out of You where all the characters are saying their nervous thoughts ("I'm never gonna catch my breath/say goodbye to those who knew me/why was i fool in school for cutting gym?" etc) is so good because they're all presented as equivalent reasons the characters feel inadequate as "men." So like, Mulan being a woman or afab is right there on the same level as cutting gym class. And none of it actually prevents them from meeting the presented standards and being men.

And just generally I love Mulan's take on gender so so so much lol, no focus-grouped first gay Disney character will ever be as important to me as the way the main theme of Mulan can be summed up as "masculinity and femininity are performances for everyone, and anyone can do either with practice."

Currently Reading: I just finished Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins, which was one of my favourite books as a teen. As an adult I'm a lot more critical of some of Robbins' hot takes, but I do still really enjoy the prose.

Currently Watching: Doctor Who I guess lol, gonna be there when the next special drops. And as always Mash here and there.

Currently Listening to: Nothing right now but I did just listen to I'll Make a Man Out of You in the car as you may have guessed lol. Never ceases to slap incredibly hard.

Current Favorite Character: Hawkeye!!

Current WIP: I've got one 30k fic in the beta process right now, planning to post it sometime this week probs depending on how much editing it still needs. The premise is that Hawkeye's joke about Flagg fucking him is the inciting incident for an investigation, in which he ends up spending a week at the Seoul psych ward getting interviewed and hanging out with other gay guys. Basically it's a long gen character study so idk how much attention it's gonna get, but it was a lot of fun to write.
