It was no surprise to Matthew that his sister, Euphemia had found out who he was spending time with nor was he surprised, or impressed, when she told him she was coming to tea.

So now they sat, in an awkward silence, sipping their tea from the china set Matthew’s mother had given him as a house warming present, almost a decade earlier and it was their first time seeing use.

He spent no time at all in the house he had inherited, Barkley House was less of a home to him than the hotel room at Cliveden House, the grand hotel in the center of London.

Barkley House was in the countryside, a hours drive from the city, and while it was beautiful, Matthew had no desire to mill about meadows and paint landscapes.

“So..Your new beau..She’s Irish?”

Matthew rolled his eyes “Her Mother was, she was born in Birmingham.”

Judging by Euphemia’s expression, that didn’t improve her opinion. 

“And already has two children?”

Matthew sipped his tea “Yes.”

“By two men?”

“Yes.”

“Matty…you must know how that looks-”

Matthew set his cup down in the saucer with a dilprate thud “How does it look, Mia? How many bastards does Len have these days? Are we in double digits yet?”

Matthew wasn’t the only Dormer who people gossiped about, Euphemia’s husband, Leonard was a constant subject from the women’s book clubs to the men’s hunting groups, He had a taste for extra-marital affairs and Matthew was amazed his sister allowed it.

Euphemia glared “That isn’t the same and you damn well know it, The rumors are that her youngest daughter’s Father was a negro..”

She whispered the last word, like even saying it would curse her to hell forever. 

Matthew hoped it would, he hated the word and the malice in his sister's voice when she spoke it.

“Yes, Melody’s Father was a musician from New York.” Matthew shrugs “By all accounts quite the musical genius and a rather lovely chap.” 

“You do things just to try and drive Mother to an early grave.” 

“What a shame that would be, I'm sure..” Matthew mumbled into his tea. 

“Father won’t give you his blessing.” 

Matthew laughed

“As if I’d want it.”

Ronald Dormer made it clear from the moment Matthew was born that his youngest son was a mistake, he had meant to be the daughter that his mother always wanted, They already had two sons, a heir and a spare.

Matthew was an afterthought and a disappointment, And they never let him feel otherwise.

Even Barkley House had to be pulled from his Father’s talons by his grandmother, who bless her soul had been the only relative to ever show even an ounce of love towards him.

With her dead, his family were strangers to him.

“Everyone knows I’m disowned..” He finished his tea and set it on the coffee table “Every family has a disappointment, I just managed to escape before Father forced me into the priesthood or into a asylum.”

“Perhaps he should’ve locked you away, because you’re insane if you think anyone will attend your wedding to that Irish whore.”

She set down her tea and stood up, leaving the room with a huff.

Matthew smirked, he hadn’t actually put too much thought into marrying Fawn, he knew she didn’t care either way.

(Also, CCF literally tagged me WHILE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF DOING THIS after cricket's tag from like two days ago, so I'm digging the wavelength synchronicity.)

Sevenwaters Saga by Juliet Marillier -- yes I'm listing a whole series as one book, fucking fight me. *Stefon voice* This series has everything! Historical high fantasy! Intergenerational stories! Romance romance romance! A canon side queer couple in fucking fifth century-ish Ireland! Slide into my DMs if you want trigger/content warnings or a more detailed synopsis, I am incapable of being normal about this series. Also if you read my swans fic you'll find parts of the first book in the series very familiar. (Also also, I once did a podfic for this series which has the dubious honour of being the only thing I’ve ever put on AO3 with zero comments, there's your random fact for the day!)

Rōmeo rāua ko Hurieta translated by Te Haumihiata Mason -- yes, this one's niche as it's in te reo Māori, but I'd be deeply remiss if I didn't have Shakespeare somewhere on this list despite me claiming I was going obscure. It translates the essence of the story rather than word for word and has a side-by-side with te reo Pākehā (English) which results in some absolutely delightful idiom usage.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach -- always a good reread if I want to feel like I'm a part of a wider universe. Also the reason for my seagull tattoo!

How to Loiter in a Turf War by Coco Solid -- I don't even know how to describe this one other than a must-read, which seems trite as fuck but here we are.

Meet Me Under The Ombu Tree by Santa Montefiore -- I first found this in my high school library which is fucking wild considering the plot. Another one to slide into my DMs for trigger/content warnings if needed but an incredibly well-written story with some of the most fleshed-out side characters I've read in this genre.

Mouthful of Forevers by Clementine von Radics -- absolutely incredible poetry, like, every damn one.

Nights in the Gardens of Spain by Witi Ihimaera -- another one I found way too early in the school library and the earliest overtly queer book I remember reading!

The C.H.E.R.U.B. series by Robert Muchamore -- idk how popular this one was actually? So this might be one everyone knows, but if not and you wanna read some wild YA about child spies, this will keep you fed.

I Am Not Esther by Fleur Beale and its sequels -- definitely not obscure to my fellow Kiwi but I'm not sure how much play it got outside of Aotearoa. Please read these books. Based on a very real religious cult (the author also wrote a nonfiction book about Gloriavale and how it got started) the shifts in perspectives between the different books in the series really do paint a vivid picture of the realities and nuances of it.

I am considering making a taglist (or making taglists)?

For a long time now, I have been against taglists for several reasons:

For one: I find them ugly. I do like my fics to be formatted in a way that I find visually beautiful.

Two: some people who ask to be tagged don't have the ability to be tagged turned on in their settings (and I'm not putting a bunch of dead urls in a tag list). And I don't want to have to keep reminding people to turn this on (but I do understand that especially now, a lot of people are new to Tumblr and might not understand how it works).

Three: (the biggest reason I was against it) - this is a problem I noticed when I used to have a taglist back in 2016/2017 and it's a problem I have seen some other people complain about - a writer may have a taglist of like 200 people, and then only get 5 or 10 comments on a fic.

But I want to find ways to combat these things because I know that a lot of people like the taglist format.

I don't know if people realize that taglists are extra work for writers on top of writing an entire fic (which is a lot of work), editing that fic, and then doing other formatting for the fic - like the things that I do in order to make my fics more enjoyable and presentable - like making a cover, and making a detailed warnings list. Those things alone probably add on an extra hour or two of work on top of the 30 hours it takes to write a 10k fic and the 10 hours of work it would take to edit that length of a fic. Increase those numbers for more words.

But a lot of people have asked me for taglists in the past, so I am considering it. But with rules.

So combat the ugliness, I would probably tag people in a reblog or tag them in the replies so that way there's not an ugly block of tagged urls on the actual post. Or I would do something I used to do and sent the fic to people in DMs, which is similar to a taglist. I'm not sure.

To combat the second part - I would give people one or two reminders about not having their mentions turned on, and after that, just drop them from the list if they are a dead url.

And for the third thing - the post important - I would likely make a rule that if people want to stay on my taglist, they have to leave a comment or reblog within a reasonable amount of time of the fic being posted (like - a week maybe?).

I say comment or reblog because I know that people have busy lives, and people might only have time to read fics about once a month or even less. so if you don't have time to read the fic and leave a meaningful comment, but you still want to be on the taglist, then you can reblog it (even if the reblog says 'tbr' or something like that) - because reblogging fics is supportive of authors and someone might see the reblog and want to read my fic. and it's a good exchange for the extra amount of work that it takes to maintain a taglist

so - what do you guys think? does this sound reasonable?

I would likely make a seperate taglists - one for if you want to be tagged in every single fic I post, and then one for each fandom. but I don't think that I would make taglists for each character because that's a little excessive to me (especially if it's a character that I don't write for often) - but idk. does all this sound reasonable? or should I just stick to no taglists? should I do a taglist for Titans as an experiment to see how it goes? idk.

I feel like part of the reason I also dropped the taglist thing is because I don't write for one fandom consistently. I used to have a taglist when I wrote for only kpop - because the people who enjoyed my content kept coming back to read fics about the same characters/people. and I feel like it might be too much trouble to keep track of who wants to be tagged in posts for which fandom

and I do get annoyed by comments asking to be added to a taglist (because those are like 'part 2' comments - usually it's the only thing someone has to say in the comments of a fic) - but also, I know I'm gonna get those comments either way. so I kind of want it to be a productive exercise, where I can add that person to a taglist and then get them to start commenting on my fics and reblogging them?

hihi im starting a writing blog for svt but im relatively new to tumblr and its mechanics and all the etiquette and things like that. also im a jun biased and im weird in the way where i don't usually have inspo for other members? if that makes sense? so like idk is there anything i need to know or is it relatively acceptable to mostly only write for one or two members?

also sidenote but i really love some of your writings ahaha match of the season is my favourite :D thank you so much if you ever reply!

no that totally makes sense! i would say most authors on here will write for ot13 but they definitely write more for their bias than any other member. i feel the same way, for me it's easier to write for jun than for other members (and also i love him lol) so my writing ends up being like 90% jun and 10% other members. which is completely fine! at the end of the day it's your blog and your writing, and you should write for whoever you feel comfortable writing for and whoever gives you the most motivation. there are hundreds of writers on this site so if one writer only writes for a couple of members, it doesn't mean the other members won't get written :) nobody says you're required to write certain things or for certain members!

if you intentionally leave out one member but write for all the rest (i've seen writers who write ot12 and exclude jun because they aren't attracted to him), you might get some side eyes but again that is your choice. i personally wouldn't say a hard no to any members and i'll give them all my best shot, but that's my blog, and your blog is up to you.

as for things you'd need to know, i'd say the number one thing is interact with people! the best way to get interaction on your own work is to reblog and comment on other fics. as i'm sure you've heard me say before, reblogs are the most important feature on this site! it basically boils down to, treat others how you would want to be treated by reblogging their works and leaving feedback, even if it's just a simple "i really loved this!!!". it makes you stand out in our notifs and if you're also a writer it might even get you a new mutual.

other tips off the top of my head:

have a masterlist post (helps people find all your fics in one place) and have a guidelines post (makes it clear what you're comfy with)

DO NOT PLAGIARIZE AND DO NOT STEAL ANYONE ELSE'S WRITING (this one is in caps bc super super important!!! you can take ideas or inspiration from someone else but you cannot take their words or their writing. you'd think this one would be obvious but plagiarism happens a lot more than you'd think)

if you're inspired by someone else, tag them in your fic! it shows respect to the original author, and you should tag them whether it was from a fic you read or if they helped you brainstorm ideas. it doesn't have to be a super long thing, just a little "inspired by @onlyhuis's fic!!" is more than enough, but it goes a long way :)

like i said, you can write for whoever you want, whenever you want! when ppl start interacting you it's gonna be stressful because you want to make them happy and put out new fics often, but just remember that it's your blog and you get the final say on everything. don't put pressure on yourself to write constantly because you will get burned out and i promise it will not be fun!

if people send things that make you uncomfy, don't be afraid to delete (or block) them. it's your blog and your boundaries so don't feel guilty for standing up for yourself. also, ignore answer hate asks because they're just looking for attention so don't give it to them

trigger things properly! this is the little section before the fic that says "warnings". don't censor any words (using punctuation like bl00d or d3ath instead of typing blood or death) because it defeats the purpose of ppl who have those keywords filtered, so type out the whole word uncensored. this is a courtesy for people so they can choose to avoid content that may be harmful to them. (this also counts towards visual works, a lot of ppl use tags like "tw flashing" on gifsets)

speaking of tags, when you post be sure to put tags on it! it's the section at the bottom of your post with all the #'s. if you click on any of my fics you can see that i use tags like "jun smut", "seventeen scenarios", etc. these tags help people find what they want to read (but only tag relevant things; don't put "mingyu smut" on a jeonghan fic unless mingyu is actually in the fic). if you aren't sure which tags to use or how to format things, feel free to look at other fics for examples. if you read a lot of fics you might see there's a pretty standard way of doing it

the tags i use like "june.txt" and "june writes" are organizational tags. when you click on, for example, my "june writes" tag, the results are only my fics that have that tag. it basically organizes things into categories (which imo is the best part of tumblr) and it makes it easier to find different types of posts. it also allows people to filter those tags so posts with that tag don't show up (for example, i require minors on my blog to block the tag "minors dni" so that nothing nsfw is shown to them)

again like i said, don't be shy! make friends, join networks, send asks to people, reblog fics, etc etc. interacting with others is the #1 way to make writer friends :)

just a general tumblr tip: no one can see how many followers you have except you, so don't try to make it a competition of who has the most. it's what makes tumblr different from tw*tter and insta and it makes the social media experience a lot more casual because there's no influencers here. it's like a diary where you scream into the void and sometimes ppl scream back. a lot of writers do milestone events (i recently had one for hitting 1k followers) but you aren't required to do those either

if you have any questions about tags, filtering keywords, and other tumblr stuff like that, don't be afraid to ask! any tumblr veteran is more than willing to help break down our weird system to new bloggers

be proud of your work! even if it doesn't get many notes or feedback it doesn't mean you're a bad writer. writing should be fun and something you can enjoy doing, so don't make it seem like a chore by focusing too hard on numbers

okay let me tell my advice

The numbers don't equal quality. Certain things appeal to people more, like shorter stories, straight up smut, Joel Miller gets way more than when I write Marc. I think one of my best works was my Marc X Jewish!Reader series, Seattle, but it idnt get anywhere really even at the height of moon knight popularity bc people dont read OC's esp ethnic oc's. Put your heart into it and those who enjoy it will enjoy it. I had a William Miller series that averaged like 8-20 notes per chapter but I had a handful of readers I knew adored it and thats what mattered

This site is so much better with interaction. PLEASE DON"T ONLY INTERACT FOR THE SAKE OF GETTING FRIENDS WHO"LL REBLOG!! However, if you dont already, make sure you are reblogging stories and leaving nice words! Me personally, if someone reblogs regularly and leave nice words, espcially things that show they really paid attention, I usually just follow back bc I love friends. Im happy to get to know you!

Yes, it's hard sometimes to break it. It took a few months for me to get into the Oscar Issac writer circles, and then when I started writing Pedro it took a while too but I always reblogged and tried to communicate and I made friends. Isn't it crazy we can just.... become friends with our fav writers? Obvs Im not friends with all my favs but MOST of my favs became my friends <3

It's kinda annoying to me bc Im bad at it but aesthetics help. Title, a picture to catch eyes, summary, warnings, note. Try to make it look nice. Im really had at this LMFAOOOOOO. My lovely friends have made my best looking banners. If you have graphic design skills, use them! i wish i didn't have to but it does help catch readers when you have an interesting headers and everything looks pretty.

Few technicals. Use the readmore option. No one wants to reblog a LOOOOOONG story and clog up the feeds. Use as many correct tags as you can. Tag any triggering content. And I'm the worst at this but proof read. Im bad at proof reading, everyone who reads my work knows spelling, grammar, wrong words are a common issue I have bc Im bad at typing. When I still had word on my laptop I started typing in word and using text to speach to help me catch stuff!

Keep at it! IDK where you know my work, weather moon knight, triple frontier or tlou or whatever but all those fandoms right now are like.... a little less active. So don't be dissapointed if it takes a while. With TLOU, theres SOOOOOOO many amazing writers. With Moon Knight theres just less buzz rn. If you write for lesser known characters like Llewyn Davis or Will Miller, you probs won't reach the notes of established writers in Joel Miller. Just the reality. the point is keep going, find what you like and what gets people excited and go from there

This is the most important. Write what you want. I mean it. I love writing Will Miller because he's my special man <3 even though it's a small fanbase. My series Rooms On Fire, a lot have lost interest bc its a long series. That's okay! I love the series and it makes me happy to write it. My Tagging System

Hello! I am posting my tag system so that I can pin it and actually know what my tagging system is. I am pretty inconsistent with it, and this sheet is very much a work in progress. I will probably make it easier on the eyes at some point, but right now I am a little unsure about how I want to format it. Many of my tags aren't included on this post. I'll just add them as they come up, and at some point I might go back through my older posts to figure it out.

If I list a tag as "something OR another thing," it's because I use those two tags pretty interchangeably. If it's listed as "something AND another thing," it means that I (almost) always use those two tags together. At some point, I'll pick a single tag to use, but I can't be assed to do it right now.

ALSO! I don't have many content warning tags yet, but feel free to send me an ask if you would like one. Do note that I don't tag them as "cw [thing]" or "tw [thing]" or "[thing] tw" or "[thing] cw" or "/// [thing]" or whatever other format. Peli thought it was a great idea to get Junior not one, but two pets. Din went to drop the bike off at the shop and came home with a tank housing two frogs. 

He had a bad feeling about it. Junior, for whatever reason, had tried to put whatever amphibian he had ever found in his mouth and Din now had two trapped in a glass container. 

You thought it was cute so he had to keep them until you were gone long enough for him to set them free where they wouldn’t be in constant danger of being chewed on by a toddler. 

You set the tank up in his room, a few tiny plants from the shop as decoration along with a sizable water dish and tube of dead bugs. Junior’s face was pressed to the glass so close his little nose kept fogging it up and he kept babbling at them.

“What are we gonna call them?” You asked Junior. 

“He’s not keeping them, they don’t need names,” Din said blandly. 

“Stop it,” you turned to him, “look how happy he is!”

“He’s salivating, he wants to eat them.” 

“What are their names, Din?” You said with a frown. 

He sighed and his head dropped towards his chest. “Frog Lady and Frog… Husband.” 

You snorted, “okay then.” 

Things were fine… for a while. Junior was enraptured by his new pets, he watched them with big eyes. He was not allowed to hold them or put his hands in the cage without supervision but he hadn’t tried to do it on his own yet so Din was mostly okay with it. The damn things had laid eggs, but he figured once they had hatched or did whatever the fuck frog eggs did he would release them all back into the wild and they could move on back to their formerly pet-less lives. 

Until one day he was calling for him and no little stomps came around the corner and there were no little babbling sounds from any room. That usually meant trouble. 

Din walked into the living room where you were reading a book and he asked, “have you seen Junior?”

You shook your head. “Last I checked he was in his room.” 

Din went to the room and took two steps into the door before he yelled, “NO!”

Junior had climbed his way up onto his little dresser, drawers opened partially as they had been used as steps. On the top of the dresser, he had shifted the tank lid up and onto the carpet. In Juniors tiny but meaty fist was a handful of the eggs, and it was slowly heading towards his open mouth. 

Din quickly ran over and grabbed his hand and started trying to get him to drop the eggs, wiping off the ones stuck to his hands. You had run in when he yelled and were rather concerned at the scene before you. 

“How many did you eat?” Din asked the boy who just blinked owlishly at him. 

“Oh god.” You said. 

Both frogs were still in the tank (thankfully) and it seemed Junior had not eaten too many eggs. You had to call poison control to make sure he wasn’t going to die from eating an unknown amount of frog eggs, but the only thing you could do was wait until some kind of symptoms happen and the rest of the day he wasn’t allowed out of anyone’s sight for anything.  

The next day you and Din took the frogs to a nearby pond and wished Frog Lady, Frog Husband, and their remaining brood of eggs the best of luck. 

You both agreed: no more pets until Junior got over his “eating everything” phase.

i don't think you have to tag every post about the human misty au with the cults/etc tag. just the posts that like... explicitly mention that stuff. even stuff with tigerstar! if it's not a post with cult or abuse etc mentions, you don't really... have to tag that. and if people in the main character tags see the post, they Still can't be mad about anything bc... they have the human misty au tag. that tag's right there.

you can def tag certain triggers for people if you feel you have to (you're not obligated ofc yeah) but it shouldn't stop you from also tagging the way you usually do.

so imo, i think writing content warnings up top and using a read more is appropriate and sufficient. that's what i do on ao3. actually that's like. a good analogy imo. that's how cws work on ao3, for anything that isn't a major archive warning.

(yes, ao3 has tags you can use in the additional tags section, and i'm not saying it's a perfect analogy, and i'm not going to get into my opinions about cw etiquette on ao3. it's very different than on tumblr and we're not discussing that now.)

but what is relevant is that i've been on ao3 for a long time, and active on fandom/fic tumblr for not very long. (last time i was active, i was doing classpect analysis for homestuck. ask me about the aspect wheel.)

i’m giving an overview because it’s been a while and it would take me 3 days to explain everything that actually went down with that show and it’s production.

first things first, i think most of the fandom will agree first 2-3 seasons of vld were actually good. the animation, art and music were always on point. generally majority of the problems could be tracked to showrunners joaquim dos santos and lauren montgomery. if you watched the show without much background context and focused purely on storytelling… like it would still suck but it probably wouldn’t make you as angry. as someone who actually followed interviews and production and can’t look at it inside vacuum, i’ll summarize it like this:

plot had no sense of direction. jds and lm said they didn’t have a plan instead the writing was done as the show went on. which is why the plot is all over the place.

too many characters. none of them properly developed. even main characters were eventually stripped to their main traits (ex. hunk making food jokes; lance being comic relief), not addressing any trauma characters experienced and you can actually tell which characters were prioritized.

shiro was originally supposed to die. but because his toys were selling and capitalism always wins jds and lm had to keep him alive which resulted in some very weird and non logical arcs for him.

queerbaiting. this one will vary depending on who you ask because a lot of people pointed out show did bating with “certain” scenes. now listen, EVEN if we ignored that this is still where they fucked up the most. big part of the older audience consisted out of either lgbt fans or shippers and production was very aware of that (ex. they tagged trailers with #klance and they also sold merch which had only keith and lance on it which is…yeah). now the worst part. during season 7 promotion they announced we would meet shiro’s love interest that season. said love interest was a man and shiro (you know character they previously wanted to kill) was actually gay and suddenly very important representation. so naturally fans were excited. that ended up with them killing off love interest (ex-fiancé) in the first episode of the season. also i remember two voiceover version existed, one being more censored. the show ends with shiro marrying a guy (which should be a big win for kid’s cartoons). however those screenshots leaked before final season aired and by the time it did they changed guy who he married from one random bg character to another one. instead of owning up to having lgbt characters they put wedding scene at the end which made them avoid any potential backlash of financial loss. there was also some wlw baiting but it doesn’t matter they killed them off too.

forced tragedy porn. in an interview jds and lm stated they wanted to kill and hurt more of the characters but the weren’t allowed to. allura (one of only 2 main female chars) dies in the end as some kind of heroic sacrifice and i can’t even begin to unpack everything wrong with that. after 8 seasons of lance pinning after her they got together just before she died which left him heartbroken and he decided to become a farmer because you know makes sense. lotor who was off and on villain died melted in a chair (this is still technically kids cartoon and that scene was terrifying). there’s also constant shiro torture.

toxic fandom. although not exclusively fault of the shippers they did bring the bad name to the fandom. constant ship wars, people asking ship questions on every panel, harassing everyone involved, showing nsfw art to voice actors (yes really). by the end actors didn’t wanna do anything with the show either. they usually did panels after the new season but s8 was so bad not even jds or lm dared to do one <\3

there was more drama and a lot of rumors but i won't include those because i don't know how true they are. voltron is basically what happens when you have a big demanding fandom and tone deaf showrunners. there is few video essays on it on youtube if you want to know more about issues with the plot and other stuff. censoring tags and trigger warning became like one of those fandom things as a result of fans who were disappointed. vld became he who must not be named basically lmao.

Race smiled broadly, his eyes blissed out as he took another long drag from the blunt he was nursing.  Albert sat loosely in front of him, limbs drooping heavily as he hazily scanned the city, eyes bloodshot and happy.  They’d been in a little alcove in Central Park for a while, steadily smoking their way through separate blunts and becoming one with the white noise that surrounded them.  

Race particularly enjoyed afternoons such as these.  Minutes seeping by with zero obligations- responsibilities getting lost in the smoke.  It was therapeutic in a sense and he was comfortable enough with Albert that he didn’t feel the need to interact with him entirely while they were in each other’s company.  They could just exist simultaneously and be content.

Race inhaled another lungful, brain hazing out even more.  Everything around him had a dull quality, the shapes of the world less sharp than usual.  He blearily rubbed at his eyes, but nothing seemed to right itself.  Wow.  He was really high.

“Hey, uh,” Albert leaned forward, his hand landing off-center on Race’s knee, “I’m tired and shit, so I think I’ma call it a thick day, okay?”

Race scrunched his eyes shut as a laugh bubbled in his chest, “Thick with two Cs?”

“Thiccccc,” Albert drawled, “Thick with all the Cs, man.”

They laughed heartily, heads thrown back in joy.

“Okay, man,” Race said, clambering to his feet and haphazardly helping Albert up before clapping him on the back, “I’ll catch ya, later.”

Albert nodded, patting his cheek and chuckling, “Byeeeee.” He saluted lazily, then turned and staggered off in the direction of his apartment complex, leaving Race to venture the opposite way, towards his.

He walked for several blocks, eyes unfocused as he faintly observed the world around him, smiling serenely.  But as he continued to walk, he became aware of how utterly confused he was.  Where was his apartment complex again?  What street was he even on?

He was too far gone to let the panic that distantly gripped his stomach to manifest.  But he was aware that he wasn’t in a good situation, so he stopped walking, pausing to look at the area surrounding him.

Nothing was recognizable.  Fuck.

“Yo, man, you okay?”

A new voice cut into the blur of his consciousness, pulling him out of his head slightly and into the moment.  He turned with wide eyes and found himself looking down at a shorter man with an impossibly sharp jawline and gleaming brown eyes.

Race heard himself giggle, “Fuck no, man, I’m lost as shit and you’re hot as shit.”

Subconsciously, he was aware that he might have just put himself in immense danger by calling the guy hot, but he couldn’t bring himself to care.  The guy didn’t seem to mind.  Instead, his eyebrows flew to his hairline, an amused smirk finding its way to his lips.

“And you’re stoned as shit,” The guy countered, “are you lost?”

Race stared at him for a moment longer before turning his head slowly to look around, hiis current predicament returning, “Oh, yeah,” he slurred, “I am.”

The guy seemed to be holding back laughter, “Do you have someone you can call?  Want me to get an Uber for you or something?”

Race fixed his gaze back on the guy, “Who’re you?  Why are you so hot?” he asked, ignoring the guy’s question.

“I’m Spot,” Spot said, reaching out and gently pulling Race out of the ongoing crowd of people swarming the streets, “And I could ask you the same question.”

Race’s eyes widened, “Fuck me, bro.  Literally, take my ass and fuck me.”

Spot’s expression turned into one of alarm and he huffed out a bemused laugh, “Maybe sometime when you’re not high and you know what you’re agreeing to.”

Race shook his head, admiration and awe etched on his face, “Hot and consensual.  What more could I want?”

“Okay, buddy, we really needa find a safe way to get you home.” Spot said, seriously, although he was still smiling, “Can I see your phone?  What’s your name, by the way?”

“Uh, Race,” Race said, reaching into his back pocket and pulling out his phone, using his fingerprint to click into it before handing it to Spot, who took it and pulled up Race’s contacts.

“Okay,” he said, eyes narrowing in focus as he fiddled with the phone for a moment.  

His fingers were flying across the screen and Race frowned, “What’re you doing?”

“Hm?” Spot sounded distracted, “Oh, you’ll see,” he typed for another moment before he looked expectantly as Race, “There, done.  Anyway, who can I call?  On favorites I see a ‘Jack’, an ‘Elmer’, and an ‘Albert’.”

Race took a moment to process the words, before he blurted a loud, “Jack!” out.

“Alright, give me one moment.” Spot tapped on Jack’s contact and held the phone up to his ear, communicating the situation briefly to Jack before thanking him and hanging up, “He’ll be over at that Starbucks in twenty,” Spot concluded, pointing across the street, “For now, wanna wait in there?”

Race’s eyes lit up, “Hell yeah, bro, I love Starbucks!”

Spot laughed, already beginning to lead him across the street, “Alright, c’mon.”

They entered the Starbucks and Spot lead Race to the booth that ran along the wall opposite of the cash registers.  Race watched as he strolled to the counter to order coffees, and a cake-pop upon Race’s rising munchie request, for the two of them.  

“Does this count as a first date?” Race giggled, pulling his iced caramel latte and chocolate cake pop towards his body, taking a long sip from the straw.

“Nothing counts ‘til you’re sober,” Spot said, taking a sip of his own drink, “but I put my number in your phone earlier, so if you were to want to have a first date…”

“Ah fuck yeah!” Race whooped as Jack walked in.  He turned excitedly to Jack, who had approached the table, “I got a hot guys number, Jackie!”

Jack bit the inside of his cheek, eyebrows raising, “Wow, okay,” he turned to Spot, “Thanks for taking care of him, man, that was really cool of you.  He’s pretty stupid when he’s high.”

Spot shook his head, “It’s no problem.  Really.”

Race stood and turned to look down at Spot, “I will call you, my sweets, I promise.”

Spot and Jack laughed loudly.

“I’ll be looking forward to it, buttercup.”

Okay, so I don’t usually say anything on tumblr, but that last anon is kind of making me irritated

They weren’t slick about who they were talking about bc they had a direct quote from the post they were talking about. While I’m happy they didn’t say any names, they still left out info. The blog they were talking about DOES use ‘read more’ cuts on NSFW posts after they put a warning about content. The blog also doesn’t break any boundaries and was very respectful about responding to the anon’s ask. It wasn’t even a direct quote bc the anon made the blog’s response sound ruder than it was. In summary, the blog that the anon was talking about literally does nothing wrong. It’s easy for people to scroll past even short ones bc the blog pretty much always puts a ‘read more’ cut on nsfw fics. I understand being upset at those without ‘read more’ cuts, warnings, or those that are breaking boundaries. However, the specific blog anon was talking about didn’t break anything and is overall very respectable.

i have to say, i do agree that the blog this is all about does a really good job of respecting cc's boundaries from what i can tell and they were pretty respectful in their response! i do have context for the interaction so i'm not entirely upset with how it went because i have a more well-rounded understanding now.

but i think i do have a point in saying that nsfw blogs should keep their content out of mainstream tags - for example, "[cc name] x reader" - especially if they have an mdni policy in effect [which they should]. by putting nsfw content in mainstream tags, creators on here are practically handing smut to 13 year olds, which is not responsible content creation. like i've said before, i 100% understand wanting to give your work as much exposure as possible. and why wouldn't you [/gen, npa]? you're putting all this work and effort into this thing you wrote, of course you'd want as many people as possible to see it! that's not bad at all. but there is a way to responsibly tag [or not tag, in this case] your nsfw content. also, not putting your work into mainstream tags would make policing those who interact with your content so much easier, right? by tagging responsibly, not only will it be easier to control who does and doesn't interact with your posts, but you'll also be able to build a loyal audience. idk i personally don't see a reason to not be responsible with tagging your work /npa. and obviously no ill will towards this creator, they're doing their best and might not understand where we're coming from and that's okay! that's why i make these posts, to help people understand why it's important to be concerned about who you're exposing your content to.
