i first of all want to admire the perfect representation of best friends to enemies with blitz & fizz because ugh.

And like Blitz tells everyone this but the way it's so malicious here. Just the perfect simple dig and Fizz's little shit eating grin because it delivered how he knew it would sdfkjsdkf. Shoves Blitz to the side because really that's all he cares to say. Fuck you and what you did to me, bye bye <3 Fizz is so for talking shit and dipping (House of Asmodeus) I love how messy it is but also shows how he really doesn't hold malice for Blitz otherwise. Obviously we see this front and center later in the episode once they start reconnecting, but I like the subtlety and how he's so willing to snap at Blitz despite his usual anxiety with confrontation.

Blitz also knowing exactly what to say to really piss Fizz off once things escalate <3

Idk I just love how indicative this whole interaction is for their characters but especially Fizz, it's a perfect build-up for him. Fizz has major imposter syndrome with dual layers because of general haters but especially because of Mammon and Asmodeus. Not on any fault of Ozzie's,, we just see Fizz obviously thinks he isn't fully deserving of their relationship/his situation and the healthy dynamics of it and so do most major news outlets apparently askjfsk.

It'll be really interesting to see how his character develops in future episodes because I feel like a lot of what I've rambled about here has come to a resolution after 2 Minutes Notice in the musical special lmao. I really like how here when he goes to compose himself, this is how he does it.

Makes me wonder how many times him and Ozzie have had the self-worth and imposter syndrome conversation before it finally stuck in the Mammon Musical Special. I just love their relationship and how they compliment one another,, and how it projects into Fizz's other relationships because they're healthy for one another. So the one on the left in my pfp (spiral eye, sweater) is named Bubble (my friend named them), they use any pronouns (although I generally use they/them) and their nickname is Bubs :3

The one on the right (demon, poncho) is Devlin (name taken from the Devlin house from Dead Boy Detectives) they also use any pronouns and their nickname is Dev

These r some of my OG sketches of them (their designs are pretty much exactly the same still, i don’t plan on changing them)

I made them both easy to draw on purpose since I just wanted something to do while I was bored but I’ve ended up becoming super attached to them lmaoo

I decided pretty early on that Bubble and Devlin would be in a romantic relationship because idk, i’m just a sap for romance I guess

Bubs and Dev both use rotary phones from the 1960’s; mostly it’s just a gag, there’s no real reason for this other than I thought it’d be funny.

I tend to stylise Devlin’s dialogue in all caps just to sort of show their loud personality but they actually aren’t yelling most of the time.

They both have pets! Bubble has a saint bernard called Benoit Blanc (Benny) and Devlin has three iguanas named Tim, Martin and Sasha (I think you know where i got their names)

I haven’t planned out every aspect of their characters but I do know a few things such as hobbies (Bubs likes baking and Dev likes to read. They both like arts and crafts) and their families (Bubs comes from a kinda big family, they have several cousins and a little brother, meanwhile Dev no longer speaks to their family.)

I wanted to keep the Nicknames thing, so i introduce Vixen ‘Vixie’ and Melina ‘Mel’!

Okay thanks to the wonderful tmm server again I had another brainstorm and this time I’m back with TMM X EPIC The Musical because!!

After some thoughts I think I have a rough idea of who’s who…

RIDLEY - Odysseus since shes a smart girl. Would be warrior of the mind and also shes already the leader of the Misfits like how ody is the leader/king.

DANTE - Athena, basically odysseus’ mentor sooo he advices her and is the presence that is there but also lowkey abandons Ridley sometimes helpp.

LEILA - Polites because open arms and he encourages people to see the light in bad things and is optimistic like Leila. One of Ody’s closest friends like how Leila and Ridley have a special close bond and someone that Ridley/Ody actually listens to.

THEO - Eurylochus since he cares about the crew/ family and is the one who put their needs first and so theo and ridley conflict which ties to how betrayed ody was with eury since theyre brothers and theo and ridley r close friends so drama. Theo would be Ridley’s most trusted friend but they have differing opinions and priorities which could lead to Mutiny and arguments just like in the Third Minor.

IZZY AND OLLY - Aeolus and Hermes since the wind god wanted to play a game with the wind bag and is lighthearted and Hermes is there for fun plus messenger god and supports ody so theyre like the silly gods hehe. Whimsy and fun plus their songs are bangers. They’re both like kinda matching with Hermes being able to fly/messenger god and Aeolus being the wind god.

EMILY - Circe cause she can trick and lure ppl in like the witch and mesmerise them yayay AND she does it in her belief that it’s right just like Emily believed her methods were for the best, to protect those she cares about.

CARTER - Prophet because hes the one that gave ody like a reality check and a hint of the future plus gave help soo… Calm and wise and insightful and his song gives really relaxed Carter vibes. Oh and a sort of gloomy air around him.

KILROY - Poseidon because he’s Ody’s ultimate hater plus main villain so. Also something about ruthlessness seems like a lesson that he would teach.

mcsm fandom criticism lets go!! anyways i hate the amount of people who tend to focus on a character’s appearance despite their backstory and stuff. This applies to basically every fandom, but I’m directing this confession to the mcsm fandom in particular. This mostly happens between Lukas, Jesse, and Petra. Very basic answers, but this *is* the mcsm fandom.

I mean it’s 100% okay to like a character with a big reason being for their looks. I like characters because of the depth of their story, but obviously it’s not the same for everyone, so I shouldn’t criticize people for that reason. It’s only when people devote that character to their appearance only and pay absolutely no attention to the things they go through, the character development, etc. And it is HORRIBLE in the mcsm fandom.

Jesse obviously has gone through terrible stuff, such as losing their best friend and suffering with survivors guilt because of it, having the pressure of the world’s fate in their hands twice, experiencing countless amounts of near-death experiences, all of those things make up their character. Yet for some reason, majority of the jesse fans I meet can’t name another reason for liking them except their looks. Mostly on tiktok though, so I hope it’s better on tumblr lol

Although the writers definitely overlooked Lukas’ story and stuff, he still has character to him. Like how he was first introduced as a ‘rival’ and became one of Jesse’s closest friends in the end. I love talking about his relationship with the ocelots, and mostly how they were all he had and left them in the end even though he risked his LIFE to retrieve them back from wherever they were. His character is interesting imo, but people tend to overlook it because the writers did too. And yeah he’s the main victim of being liked only for his appearance and basically nothing else. I’ve talked wayyyy more about his character than I did just now, but my brain is kinda fried rn lmao. Also one reason people like him so much is because of jesskas/lukesse

I can’t say much about Petra, since there are a lot of people who appreciate her for her whole character arc in s2 while the other side is just down bad for her. But something that comes along with majority of the fandom loving her is being quick to disagree with any criticism directed towards her, and also quick to discard any other character that was hurt (radar jesse lukas idk) by her. I just wanna say that she wasnt always the victim in everything, and people have a reason to defend the side that goes against Petra (kinda went offtopic WHOOPS). But for the side of the fandom that only admires her for her appearance, completely dismisses her entire character arc, comments “I NEED HER SO BAD.” on a Petra angst edit (happened to me once sooo..), you are insufferable and I have no idea how you discard a ‘complex’ character like her.

for the side of the fandom that does spend their time analyzing the characters and appreciates them for their story along with their appearance (because i do that too lololol), you guys r cool and i love reading your analysis’ 🙏

Howeverrr just for funsies: the way I see it is by working backwards, starting with if I see them getting married, and honestly…based on ttpd, leaning towards yes. When they will get married I have no inkling and I don’t even feel like speculating cuz of all those gross pregnancy/marriage rumours going around 🤢 I think they’ll get married cuz:

their careers are such that they’re both lifting the other up when they show up for games/concerts, there is no conflict of interest (ie no competition) cuz of the vastly different fields they’re in. Also, he was more established than joe at the start of their r/ship which makes for a very rosy picturesque love story image which at least some part of Taylor desires (based on her interviews, the fearless/speak now eras) but she’s also become quite jaded (as per ttpd) so maybe she thinks this is the closest she’s going to get to it

i also think she’s in no rush to leave a r/ship this comfortable after her last 2 emotionally complex ones. Not saying this is good or bad of her; I do understand why she would want to take it easy now (and possibly forever) but given how little they seem to have in common, I don’t think she can find this r/ship as emotionally fulfilling as she would want with a life partner, so I don’t see them sticking it out forever. Ofc I could be wrong and maybe she’s changed, but based on her track record travis does not seem the type of person Taylor Swift would want to spend the rest of her life with (girlie was cringing so hard in the viva las vegas clip)

ok sorry actually i do have some things to say abt this fic other than like. commenting on how wild it is. unfortunately i have read like 300,000 words of it so we r past the point where i can just be like "idk man"

so like this fic actually does bother to engage w the bipolar stuff which i think is inchresting because like. in my experience a lot of fic makes mention of past manic or depressive episodes but doesnt actually like. deal w it in the fic. the way its portrayed here doesnt feel like. super super accurate but like. yk its a different experience for everybody and i am certainly not a clinician so like i cant rlly speak on that

that being said for a minute i did feel like there was some kind of interesting stuff about like. sollux as somebody w high support needs (and who at various points was experiencing full-on psychosis) who was advocating for himself as deserving of trust and respect from his partners. i thought the way the story was navigating that was kind of interesting

i liked that we got multiple perspectives like dave was the one who was trying to infringe on sollux's autonomy in response to sollux's behavior and karkat was the one who was more understanding of the balance that needed to be struck. and i liked that sollux was able to clearly articulate his own position for himself

i read a..Significant amount of fanfiction after captain america: the winter soldier came out and there was a tonnn of fic that at its core is just. lavish descriptions of bucky barnes receiving intensive therapy and i think parts of this fic definitely had that vibe. like especially because the argument for karkat joining the relationship was basically that sollux was doing so bad he needed two moirails

but i think what differentiates it a little was sollux being like "hey i understand that this is what i needed for a while but you need to understand that this is more or less a permanent state for me even if there are times where ill be better or worse, and so you cant be trying to control me every time i start behaving in a way you think i shouldn't"

this is not related to any of the above stuff but i do struggle w M/M/M fic because im like. good lord that is SO many dudes. there r sooo many men in this relationship. it feels like an over the top number of men

i dont think theyre actually very different in my mind than in the series. like. i used to think dororo being like her dad was a fabrication of my brain but no he really IS sometimes. his first dialogue in the show is asking her how she likes her new school. like. they’re one of those dynamics i like where i dont think there’s any improving on it. it’s pretty much the best version of itself as is.

GOD IT HAS TO BE SO SO IMPORTANT TO BOTH OF THEM. LIKE. lets start with koyuki. She seems to be an orphan but aside from that her family situation is unknown, like idk if she ever HAD parents she Knew or not, and the ninja village she spent Most of her childhood in was kind of Against the formation of too Soft & Close of relationships. One of her lifelong friends Mukuro was always firmly against koyuki calling them friends because Ninjas Don’t Have Friends, and another one of her friends would help her out when she got tired or hurt during training as a little kid & she said he might get in trouble because he wasn’t Supposed to help her. Koyuki had friends anyway because she’s just that nice and determined but she wasn’t really SUPPOSED to and i don’t know how many people were close to her in like. A Warm Way Conducive To A Child Who Is Growing Up. Dororo is sort of Her Only Family, and he’s also the one Consistent part of her life - she had to say goodbye to all the people she’d known for her entire life when the ninja village was disbanded, and had to move on to a life completely different from anything she was used to, BUT Dororo had been living in the village for a few years (is the timeline I tend to go with) before that so she gets to have ONE properly familiar thing With her in her new life.

For dororo. First of all. Koyuki is the ONE person he knows that he has absolutely 0 grudge of any kind against. He’s at least a tiny little bit angry at everyone else he knows but koyuki has never done anything wrong to him ever in her life. She also like. Saved His Life. In the straightforward literal momentary sense and also in the existential metaphorical sense of when you experience a change so drastic that it completely changes you and then you look back and go I USED TO BE LIKE THAT?? THANK GOD I GOT OUT like . She literally saved his life when she found him caught in a trap which it has to be said was kind of a big deal for him already because he was taught to expect humans to be violent and cruel, don’t join the military. & she took him back to her village and took CARE of him and helped train him 2 be a ninja and indirectly/unintentionally showed him some of the Best of earth & humanity and the kinds of things he thinks are Beautiful and he got his life changed and threw the old life out and became someone he likes more. And she is always nice to him and is the one person who never forgets him :)

They just care about each other so much!!!! They both have other very close friends but they’re definitely each others closest friends on a very deep level. They consider it a Given that they are going to keep being best friends & family forever. Soulmates (familial)

NOOOOhow am i supposed to choose…. most of their interactions are really sweet or funny……. ummmm…. I like just sort of. Everything that’s about their friendship in 184. Koyuki noticing something is Weird with dororo and immediately spending her whole day making a protective charm for him. their friendship literally saving his life again in that koyuki (not for the first time) uses her awesome powers of Being Very Determined and Caring So So Deeply About Her Friends to overcome magic that’s supposed to be completely controlling her, & is able to just redirect her sword a little to hit the charm she made instead of hitting him.

Also I really like the scene in movie 2 where tamama goes “i feel like we’re forgetting someone” and koyuki immediately holds up dororo and goes “dororo’s here!” it’s really funny

I am so tired right now but I will give small explanation.. :P he’s a little more of a side character but he’s like my baby . He’s very chill but scary charismatic and silly but dangerously impulsive. I mostly tak about him in relation to my other character atlas (also in the link^) they have the most obnoxious bromance ever basically. It’s sad. They met early high school and (eventually.. after scotch was annoying) clicked even though they r sooo #different.. scotch spent that time until the present kind of openly pining. Atlas knew this he just wasn’t really sure what to do.. he reciprocated on and off not meaning to but playing mad games wif scotch’s head. They r best buddies though it just hurts at the same time for him. Once atlas meets his partner he kind of has to juggle them both .. but scotch is outwardly pretty independent so atlas (and everyone else in his life really) ends up putting him on the back burner most of the time. Sad for him. IDK

They two of them are insanely close and once scotch got over his fear of being vulnerable (he’s very..like..#nohomo. But it’s really only towards atlas….idk HAHAHAH) it was a bit better. They’re both pretty open with eachother but that only does so much when your soulmate is….occupied LOL I’m bad at explaining it but I hope this gives u an idea..

Outside of that relationship scotch is an aspiring (and failing:( ) musician working with his father in road maintenance because family. Ideally temporary for him (wants music full time) but ummm.. well anyway eventually his band gets picked up (only because of atlas’s later partner getting involved.. :( ) and he lives it up for a while. so ive watched the show, quite frankly, too many times to count and I really do love it. i think i have an interesting perspective because i have an acting coach (i literally don't act anymore and we kinda just talk about theatre but idk what else to call him) who I discuss hs and other queer media with a lot,, but the thing is he is very much a cishet man from the midwest so he gives very interesting insight on that perspective. he seems to think HS is good and special Because it doesn't depict sex. his reasoning for that is that his impression of the depiction of queer people in queer media or media with queer people is that queer relationships are Just Sex (not his actual view of queer relationships but that's what he seems to think is The Media's view of them is). I remember him telling me a story of how he put on a play called Next Fall (which is kinda like a relationship exploration type play, it honestly felt kinda fanfic esc when i was reading it and its really good too so if anyone wants some play recs that's def one lmao) and someone came up to him afterward and said "i didn't know they could love like that" or something along those lines - now that play is not void of sex or anything but his point of telling me that was that there are still people who don't see queer relationships as real, valid relationships because of how (not just fictional) media has depicted them - mostly sex and no romantic connection.

now has all queer media historically been focussed on depicting solely sexual relationships? no, absolutely not. could i see how someone might get that impression from some more main stream movies and shows? yah fs.

i don't think HS was made specifically for cishet people but i do think the creators had them in mind. it is absolutely Accessible to them. and while that is maybe not the ideal for queer media it becomes necessary when you consider a large majority of the audience for a platform like netflix is straight people. so are probably a lot of investors. and the bigwigs at netflix. you want to make a show? you need money. you want money? you have to cater to people who have it.

honestly i don't have a big conclusion for this, just a lot of questions - was there a knowledge that straight, possibly bigoted, people would tune in and thus decided to share a more fluffy, romantic, not sexy version of queerness because of this perceived purely sexual view of queerness in media? was this on anyones radar? are they going to explore the sex the same way that was done in the comics (who's audience is much more Just Queer afaik, and where sex is very much a topic of discussion and a thing that happens) or will they tone that down? or tone it up? sex sells? idk really where i stand on all of this but ik that i am a queer person and that HS feels like it was made for me and some of the ways i experience queerness. i also think its ok that it isn't made for all the ways i have experienced queerness. the issue is that there isn't enough queer media not that we don't have any entirely perfect, applies to everyone, addresses everything, singular piece of queer media.

sorry for rambling and if this entirely incoherent,, this isn't even all my thoughts but yah!!

More very interesting thoughts and perspectives, thank you for sharing all that! I see a lot of what maybe I hadn't seen thoughtfully discussed about the show. Perhaps just from being in certain circles, the most extreme opinions were the ones that reached me? Different insight always welcome!

I think this is the mindset I hope better conversations and changing and more diverse media options can develop. Not everything is going to represent or be relatable to everyone, and this is true for all media, especially queer media. The human experience is so varied. Which is why that even if people find personal celebrations or faults within a certain media, we don't need to constantly compare and pit against. Excellent summation.
