💛 hey so i'm going on a bit of a rant here but can we, as furries, agree that white fur ≠ white coded

i'm just bored and upset with seeing furry characters in media get whitewashed just bc people see they have white fur and they're like "oh so they MUST just be The Default™" and then make their human versions white simply bc of what they see on the surface

like have you seen sawyer from cats don't dance. look at her and tell me she would be a white woman. YOU CAN'T

cats don't dance is like the CLEAREST allegory for racism and prejudice in hollywood, and sawyer's character is meant to be black coded for a reason. so seeing humanized art of her where she gets whitewashed just pisses me off

i'm sorry i've been letting this thought simmer in my head for a long time and i felt the need to post it here bc it still befuddles me
