I’ve been supporting Minyoung since the beginning during Pro.J. I’ve watched her grow prettily through the show as a trainee to an Aurora member. I’m still so~o happy she switched from 99 to Midas. They treat her so much better. And doesn’t she suit their image more? I can see why they put her into Aurora, it’s just the perfect fit.
Anyway, they let her have a special stage in Chile. She performed it with Divinity member Jia~ It came out so lovely, and there were so many cheers for them!
POST RESPONSE | [ + 99 ] [ - 16 ]
1. [ ㅇㅇ ] The cheering was so loud because of all of Jia’s overseas fans~ It was so cute, they both looked so excited about it all~ 2. [ 민니마우스 ] They really performed so hard. I’m glad that Minyoungie is getting more opportunities to shine. I like her in this angel image. So lovely ♡ 3. [ ㅇㅇ ] Oh look, it’s both of Danny’s girlfriends...are they battling it out to see who gets to go on a final date with him? ㅋㅋㅋㅋ I wonder if they fought right after. -- Just shut up, they’re both friends. Stop spreading rumors.

LOADING INFORMATION ON AURORA’S MAIN RAP, LEAD VOCAL SHIN MIRYEO...
IDOL DETAILS
STAGENAME: Mia CURRENT AGE: 21 DEBUT AGE: 17 TRAINEE SINCE AGE: 14 COMPANY: Midas SECONDARY SKILL: n/a
IDOL PROFILE
NICKNAME(S):
amelia - her english name, chosen when she was confirmed, sometimes used by fans and groupmates when she struggles to speak english.
yeoshin miryeo - “goddess miryeo”, used by netizens on the internet, in captions on variety shows, and any other time she looks particularly good
INSPIRATION: wanted to be famous since she was a kid and was planning to do so through modelling, but once she was scouted by midas becoming an idol became the logical path SPECIAL TALENTS:
cover dances - knows a lot of other groups’ dances and can whip them out when asked
photography - knows her own angles, knows others’
tongue twisters
NOTABLE FACTS:
was scouted by midas at an olympus fansign in 2012
was a child model until she started training
is interested in fashion and styling
chose her stage name from anne hathaway’s character in the princess diaries
IDOL GOALS
SHORT-TERM GOALS:
miryeo wants to build up her cult of personality. the best way she can imagine to do this is through variety shows where she can establish herself as separate from the aggregate aurora image, especially given the group’s overall reputation for being boring on variety. she’s begun this by getting herself onto sibling’s day out and is working with the company to get her face on as many networks and as many tvs as possible.
LONG-TERM GOALS:
ultimately miryeo wants to be famous as herself - not an idol, not a rapper, not a girl group member, but just getting attention for being shin miryeo. a kind of fame that sustains itself even after aurora disbands and miryeo stops putting out music. if she can establish herself as a variety figure, she’d like something like hyori’s homestay or even keeping up with the kardashians, where she would be filmed just living her life and accrue fame with little effort.
IDOL IMAGE
aurora’s mia has the kind of beauty that seems like it should be distant and cold, an ice princess, something so perfect it seems it should exist outside our own realm. to counter this, and to fit better with aurora’s overall image, midas has instructed her to behave warmly, down to earth, almost ignorant of her own looks, more “girl next door” than “most popular girl in school”. her origin story of being scouted at an olympus fansign contributes to this: sure, she may be stunning, but she was also a fan just like you! when she receives a compliment, she is to cover her cheeks as if to hide a (nonexistent) blush; when someone names her as their ideal type, she is to behave as if such an idea comes as a complete shock. she posts photos of herself in a carefully curated outfit made to look casual but show off her figure at the same time. she is good at fanservice, since she can project a sincerity towards the fans that give them the impression of a close connection. this behaviour inevitably gets her a reputation of being humble and also one of being fake; the former outnumbers the latter so midas has encouraged her to keep up the image. it couldn’t be farther from the truth.
onstage, mia is magnetic and striking. she has a natural ability to capture attention and a greediness that refuses to let it go. the difference between her company-issued image off stage and her onstage presence mean that she’s often branded as someone with “reversal charms”. aurora doesn’t do sexy concepts, nor will they ever, but mia often claims that she believes she suits a sexy concept better on variety shows, inevitably resulting in a sexy dance that further highlight these reversal charms. she embodies the concept required in the moment.
the biggest criticism she faces is her skill. at debut she was already at a lower skill level than the other members - as the only rapper in a group that has very little emphasis on rap at all, she got the main position, but in other aspects she is by comparison lacking. that wouldn’t be so bad on its own if she was making steady improvement. mia has in recent years become lazy, relying on her face to maintain popularity rather than trying to become a better musician. luckily, aurora has enough overprotective fans that criticism tends to get buried pretty quickly, although midas seems increasingly worried that unless she picks up the pace it’ll only be a matter of time until the negative comments overcome what even the borealis can handle.
IDOL HISTORY
i. shin miryeo seemed like the type whose life would be fall into place for her. her mother had been diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease at the age of 23 and was told that she may never conceive; ten years later, miryeo was born. she was pretty from birth, doted on as an only child, showered with love and praise, regarded as a miracle.
when she was four years old, miryeo and her mother took a day trip to seoul to visit family. on the subway, a woman in a pantsuit approached miryeo’s mother and introduced herself as a children’s modelling agent. “your daughter would be a perfect fit for an upcoming advertising campaign,” she said, “why don’t you think about it?” back home in gimpo her parents went back and forth deciding whether this would be a good decision. but it was true that their daughter was beautiful; why not try it once? if she hated it they’d leave it at that and forget all about it.
as it turned out, miryeo loved modelling. she thrived as the centre of attention, loved getting complimented and praised when she did everything right. after the first campaign was a success she was signed on as a child model to the agency and booked another, then another, then another. she modelled children’s jeans, she appeared as a child in a nuclear family for a bank ad, her bright smile was plastered on the walls in dentist offices for an informational poster about the importance of flossing. none of these jobs were particularly high profile or made her name known in any capacity, but back home, her popularity grew. she became known as the local model, with no shortage of school friends and neighbourhood ajummas to stroke her ego.
ii. miryeo decided she wanted to be famous. maybe this was inevitable, all things considered. the natural path to pursue this goal seemed to be modelling, and no one discouraged her from this path. she was expected to continue her schooling and keep her grades up, sure, but she already had the beginnings of a career coming together. with some more growing, some more time, and some bigger bookings, maybe she could make it.
miryeo liked pretty things, though, and at the age of thirteen she became enamoured with what she thought was one of the most beautiful things she’d ever seen: midas media’s rookie boy group, olympus. from the flashy outfits they wore to their perfectly sculpted features, they were absolutely perfect in the mesmerizing, untouchable way she dreamed of. the music and the dancing was secondary to their stage presence and their beauty.
she was scouted for the second time in her life in 2012. olympus had just released “the chaser” and, dedicated fan that she was, miryeo went to a fansign. she was pulled aside after its conclusion and was handed another business card. she decided that this was surely the better path to go down. being an idol gave you a much better chance at mainstream fame than being a model, didn’t it? she cancelled her contract with her modelling agency and signed with midas before the end of the month.
iii. miryeo had been raised to believe she was the best. not to prove herself to be the best, not to work to be the best, but to believe that she simply was. training at midas was the steepest learning curve possible.
she was there because she was pretty. other than being able to look good on camera, miryeo had no marketable skill. she could dance and carry a tune without embarrassing herself, but other trainees had natural talent and years of hard work already put into their craft. miryeo spent her first year of training stumbling, stuttering, struggling, getting yelled at in front of other trainees. she had always been the subject of love and admiration and praise; she had never really experienced embarrassment. a fear of humiliation turned into a work ethic. miryeo began pushing herself to be able to demonstrate improvement in her vocals and her dance. midas did with her what they normally did to pretty faces with no experience: tried to see if they could pick up rap. it began, predictably, as a disaster, but as she became more driven she even grew to like it.
being placed in the predebut group that became aurora meant miryeo was merely steps away from the fame and attention she craved, but the training process was particularly brutal then. midas had big plans for this group - dreamlike image combined with powerful choreography - and anyone who did not serve these plans was cut. miryeo fought to keep herself relevant in the race, not only in terms of the visual element she brought but also in terms of her skill. members kept being eliminated until five of them remained. miryeo considered it a miracle she made it to debut.
iv. aurora was a hit. she was a hit. her name, less so: the company decided “miryeo” was too difficult for international fans to pronounce, so she chose “mia” as a stage name after anne hathaway’s character in the princess diaries. midas made sure that the korean public loved her from the start, regularly getting her gigs that would show off her visuals and playing up her reputation as a unique beauty.
but that was all that was ever talked about. the hard work she put into rapping, singing, and dancing went unnoticed. after training and powering through their rookie years only to be viewed as a pretty face, miryeo decided to take the easy route. what was the point of working hard at music when no one took notice? she had never even wanted to do music; she’d wanted to be famous. rapping wasn’t what did it, her face was.
v. miryeo is growing increasingly lazy and arrogant. she is no longer being pushed to improve her skill; the work ethic that was so critical in her training period has fallen by the wayside. she is still beloved by the media. midas is starting to get concerned that comments will arise if fans notice that aurora’s signature powerful choreography is growing more lopsided, but miryeo isn’t concerned. she’s where she has always wanted to be, and she’s looking forward to more.

Did you guys hear? She interviewed her sister and even took photos of her for Dazed Korea ㅠㅠㅠ It looks like our pretty Jiyeon has a new interest in photography now too~ The photos really turned out well, and the interview was so fun to read, you could really feel their sister bond through their words ㅎㅎ
Anyway, I’m just so happy to see her active like this again ㅠㅠㅠㅠ It’s been hard as a Jiyeon fan the past few months, I can’t even imagine how she must’ve felt... Fighting Jiyeon, don’t worry, your fans are still here to support you ㅠㅠ
POST RESPONSE | [ + 161 ] [ - 49 ]
1. [ ㅇㅇ ] Actually, it looks like your pretty Jiyeon has interests in everything aside from being an Aurora member ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 2. [ 북극광♡ ] Ah, seriously... As a borealis, the more I see her the more pissed off I get =_= Does she really have no f*cking shame??? It’s only been two months since her scandal, and already she’s promoting herself on her own like this when she should still be reflecting.... she really has no sense or loyalty to her group, does she?? 3. [ ㅇㅇ ] Wow~~ This is a perfect hobby for her, isn’t she the one that likes taking and sharing pictures online? ^^ I wonder if she practiced her photography with Junseo? She better guard her SD cards with her life ㅋㅋㅋ Who knows what type of photos are in there...

AURORA SAYS IT’S ‘TIME FOR THE MOON NIGHT’ WITH NEW COMEBACK!
1. [ +1,573, -142 ] As expected of Aurora, I feel like the protagonist in an anime while listening to this ㅋㅋㅋ And the choreography is strong as usual~ Say what you want about them, but aren’t they the most consistent group? 2. [ +1,286 , -108 ] Yawn, I couldn’t even finish listening because the song was so boring... It’s really not catchy at all, and I still don’t understand what that new girl added to the group?? Ah, what is Midas doing these days... -- Did you even get to the chorus? The bam bam bam bam bam part is really an earworm.. 3. [ +873 , -74 ] ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Is it time for the moon night for Jiyeon and Junseo? I bet they’re meeting more than just in Jiyeon’s dreams ^^ -- Maybe they added that new girl just to make us forget about them ㅋㅋ

AURORA’S JIYEON POSTS A QUESTIONABLE SELFIE IN BED WITH IMPERIAL’S JUNSEO THEN QUICKLY DELETES IT. MIDAS HAS STATED "JIYEON AND JUNSEO ARE GOOD FRIENDS, SHE WAS JUST VISITING HIM AFTER SHE FOUND OUT HE WAS SICK”
1. [ +4,721 , -201 ] Hul look at her messy hair and his tired eyes ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Bye bye Aurora~ Bye bye Jiyeon~~ At least we don’t have to see her acting anymore~ Please, just keep playing around with that thug from 99 and let real actors take their rightful lead roles back ^^ -- Seriously I agree, I’ve been getting so sick of all these actor-dols with actor disease, first Sooyeon, now Jiyeon? ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Look at all of them dating and making a mess of their groups like this, companies should start to ban acting and make them focus on their idol careers 2. [ +3,595 , -181 ] Wow.... as a borealis I’m so f*cking pissed off... Midas invested so much into her and it was so obvious she just kept using the group as a stepping stone to become an actress and she’s really going to throw that all away like this and drag Aurora’s name down with her???? F*cking crazy, just leave the group already -- I feel bad for all the other members in Aurora ㅠㅠㅠ They were already losing to Honey and barely started gaining traction with Jiyeon’s acting and Dahyun’s recent Hit the Stage performance but now... this is really the final nail in the coffin ㅠㅠ 3. [ +1,978 , -102 ] 99 is really just a company full of thugs ㅋㅋㅋㅋ First POIZN, now Imperial, seriously crazy ㅋㅋ How do any of them still have fans?? Are you fangirls all blind? Wake up, all your idols are dating like this behind your back while saying i only love our fans ~ on vlive and instagram ㅋㅋㅋㅋ -- At least 99 usually just admits everything, what does Midas think we all are with this explanation? ㅋㅋ Sick... yeah, sure, I snuggle up real close to my friends too when they’re sick so I can take all their germs from them instead ㅋㅋㅋㅋ So dumb...

JIYEON BECOMES BRAND FACE FOR KEDS
1. [ +482 , -93 ] Hul Jiyeon is taking over bit by bit isn’t she? 2. [ +290 , -155 ] Jiyeon this Jiyeon that, we get it, she’s pretty, but do you think that’s enough? Look how haughty she looks, she’s really getting actress disease after one hit drama right? Midas should let one of the other girls promote for once. 3. [ +186 , -42 ] Midas really plays favorites I guess, but I acknowledge she really suits this concept at least. Stick to promotions like this instead of more acting Jiyeonie!

I’ll admit their characters are cute together in Reply 1997, but isn’t this photoshoot a little too much..? Acting is one thing but the way they’re posing here shocked me... I promise it’s not just because I’m a Hyuk fan... Seriously does anyone agree, aren’t they too f*cking close here??Jiyeon’s in Aurora, too, Midas really needs to manage her image more... what’re they doing...
POST RESPONSE | [ + 381 ] [ - 93 ]
1. [ ㅇㅇ ] What is this post ㅋㅋ It’s just a photoshoot?? Are you just jealous of the chemistry they’re showing even in a still photo like this? ㅋㅋㅋㅋ What’re they supposed to pose like?? Do you want there to be a 10 feet between them? I have news for you OP, they’re probably dating~~ All your favorite idols probably are~ 2. [ 난 혁명가야 ] Ah this is so embarrassing to read as a cure... We’re not all like that, everyone... 3. [ ㅇㅇ ] Isn’t this photoshoot clearly an attempt at noise marketing though? They’re doing well with Reply so they’re obviously trying to keep attention on them for as long as possible with a risky photoshoot ㅋㅋ Well, apparently it worked....

PRO.LOGUE’S MINYOUNG NOW ALSO AURORA’S MINYOUNG
1. [ +607 , -151 ] Wowow, I guess that blind item was really true and it was about Minyoung ㅋㅋㅋㅋ What a sly fox, but I don’t blame her for leaving 99... Look how fast she got to debut now~ 2. [ +431 , -70 ] Minyoung should thank all her luck for getting to go on Pro.J, she really upgraded from 99 to Midas...isn’t she set for life now? She doesn’t even have to struggle her way to the top...Us fans get to see her so much more now, too! 3. [ +173 , -84 ] Are there any other borealis that are super annoyed right now? We just said goodbye to our precious member and Midas thinks it’s fine to just replace her? How can Minyoung even compare?? Just because she was popular in Pro.logue?? Can’t we petition this...?

So I was looking around on Weibo last night and was so shocked when I saw so many posts talking about Minyoung’s appearance on Happy Together. They were all going crazy over her reenactment of a Chinese drama called “My Fair Princess” ㅋㅋ I thought it was cute and I was so happy to see Minyoung getting some attention, so I thought I’d translate some of their comments and share them here ~
1. Honestly I’m so tired of idols lately, but my friend showed me this and I thought she was seriously cute, she was so humble and respectful when talking about the drama.. I skipped out on watching the second season of pro.j, but maybe I’ll watch it now for her ^^
2. Wow, I was surprised someone as young as her knew the drama and even said it’s one of her favorites, was it even released when she was born?
3. So cute, she even sang the theme song of the second season ㅋㅋ She was really a fan, huh? She has good taste ~
And there was a lot more, seriously so many clips of her were trending, I was amazed~ Anyway, I hope more people here on pann will appreciate our Minnie too ^^
POST RESPONSE | [ + 103 ] [ - 19 ]
1. [ ㅇㅇ ] Wow really anything can go viral these days huh? ㅋㅋ 2. [ 민영원히사랑해 ] ㅠㅠㅠ Thank you for sharing this OP ㅠㅠ I’m so happy our Minnie is getting all this attention!!! Now if only fans here on pann could recognize her too ㅠㅠㅠㅠ 3. [ ㅇㅇ ] But OP why did you leave out all the comments asking why anyone cared about some Korean instead of paying attention to their own idols? ㅋㅋ It was probably only those who are kpop fans who even cared...

WITH FINALIZED CAST, SHOOTING ENSUES AND `REPLY 1997` SET TO AIR THIS DECEMBER
1. [ +2,295 , -273 ] Idol showcase, f*ck it really is ㅋㅋㅋㅋ This is why kids these days train to be idols even if they don’t like singing or dancing, PD’s always cast idols over rookie actors, so annoying... We already see enough of them... 2. [ +1,659 , -185 ] Have any of you idiots even watched either of their dramas or did you just see ‘idol showcase’ and come here to leave your stupid opinions? ㅋㅋ Jiyeon just hit daebak with Goblin, why shouldn’t she get cast for dramas when she’s just as good as other actors??? 3. [ +1,137 , -97 ] Honestly I didn’t even know Hyuk was part of an idol group until now ㅎㅎ Ah, he’s so handsome... I’m going to watch just for him ㅠㅠㅠㅠ -- Jiyeon’s pretty too, ah... they look so good together...

AURORA’S DAHYUN IMPRESSES ON ‘HIT THE STAGE’
1. [ +501 , -91 ] Wowow, honestly I’m not a fan of Aurora because their music isn’t my style, so I was really shocked when I asked and my sister said she’s from that group..! I was seriously~ impressed and ended up watching a lot of her fancams... I might be a fan now ㅋㅋㅋ 2. [ +392 , -74 ] Ah I’m so proud of our pretty Dahyunnie ㅠㅠㅠ I was nervous when I heard s he was going on, but I was nervous for no reason ㅠㅠ It’s so nice to see her in her element like this!!! 3. [ +267 , -33 ] But honestly doesn’t she fit this more than Aurora’s concept?? I wish they’d let her do more things like this, but Aurora’s set in their ways ㅋㅋ

LOADING INFORMATION ON AURORA’S MAIN RAP, VOCAL BAE MINHEE…
IDOL DETAILS
STAGENAME: N/A CURRENT AGE: 23 DEBUT AGE: 18 TRAINEE SINCE AGE: 13 COMPANY: Midas ETC: this member rocketed to popularity on a recent season of we got married
IDOL IMAGE
upon first meeting, it’s easy for people to come to the conclusion that minhee is a firecracker. she speaks often, fast enough to be asked to repeat some of the things she says, since people struggle to keep up with her pace. minhee doesn’t care — she is very unwilling to adjust to others’ expectations of her solely because she sees herself as the standard others should be working hard to match up to. her favorite subject to talk about is herself, though with the years the woman’s learned how to control that impulse, the small amount of self-consciousness she has reminding her that other people need to minimally like her to be around her and that means she’s supposed to give them their own focus as well. minhee is also not afraid to let others know her opinions, whether those are good or bad, relevant or not. she, as a person, doesn’t tend to shy away from conflict, instead often leaning on it to get the best in a discussion.
aurora, however, has a very meticulous image crafted, and so does midas as a company. they weren’t about to allow minhee to be herself and if this self was as sweet and whimsical as aurora’s concept pretends to be. there are parts of her that midas work to highlight, such as the honest charisma, the easy laughter, the capacity to turn any situation lighter by cracking up a joke. but the parts they need to hide — her easy aggression, the brashness when cornered, the selfishness that sometimes slips into her words without her noticing — take a lot of work from the part of the company.
ultimately she’s given an image that is not only convenient for the group but that she works convincingly. the little sunshine, the soul and personality of aurora. it’s a minor way to compensate for her shortcomings when it comes to the skills that all of her members have, and better than her, and also so that there’s less of a risk for her to screw it up. minhee is allowed to talk a lot, so long as the words that come out of her mouth are laced with positivity. as one of the youngest, midas expect her to bring the actual youthfulness to the group, to sustain their sweet image and to act the part of the members the older ones are expected to look after.
IDOL HISTORY
1996
bae minhee is born august 7 1996, in seoul, south Korea.
her mother, jiwon, rejoices at the fact that finally, after three kids and eight years since the last, God finally grants her a daughter. her father, wonseok, is no less thrilled. had she been the first, the man might’ve been bothered by a female but fourth seems to him enough for a daughter to be seen as great news.
the trip home from the hospital is loud with her brothers in the car, excitedly leaning over the front seat to get a glimpse at the bundle of blankets in the middle of which sleeps a small chubby-cheeked baby. a hand reaches out to press a small finger against said cheek but it’s slapped away by their mother, who chastises the boys not to bother the little girl while she sleeps.
1999.
when minhee is four, father gets a promotion.
she has no recollection of those years but the girl knows it’s when the man goes from a decent paying job to one that allows for them to move to a much bigger house in a nicer neighborhood. minhee’s always had a room for herself, being the only girl, but the brothers no longer have to complain about sharing when each of them gets their own bedroom.
it’s when the gifts start. each weekend, wonseok brings home a gift for the girl. sometimes the boys are awarded the same level of thoughtfulness though his princess never goes more than a week without something new to call her own.
2004.
when minhee is nine, the girl already knows whenever she cries she’ll get what she wants.
it’s something she uses against her brother minseok, the closest to her in age at seventeen, the only one still living at home. whenever he’s mean to her, minhee cries without fail. she masters this skill, taking a few years to be able to, though it’s the best thing when she knows her mother will call her brother out if minhee so much as pouts.
her parents don’t know how to say no to her.
or rather, they don’t want to.
having reached the fourth kid, they already know how to say no, don’t they?
but it somehow doesn’t come out with minhee. her every desire is done, even if reluctantly. whatever classes she wants to attend — piano, ballet, even football — she’s given permission to sign up for, even if the girl inevitably gets bored of all of them in no time.
2007.
kids in school are torn between hating her and loving her.
minhee gets away with everything with a smile and i’m sorry. it’s hard for a teacher to catch her in the first place when she’s already so used to knowing how to get away.
she’s not mean per se, not in the way she could be. but even as young as twelve, minhee makes it obvious for all to know she believes she’s the center of the universe. the girl sure has the personality to match, spitfire comebacks with soft laughter to soothe.
you never know whether she’s a friend or an enemy.
2009.1
at one point, being known around the school no longer feels like it’s enough
minhee is no stranger to idol groups — she’d have to be an alien to be —, her own bedroom wall covered with posters of the women she admires and wishes to be like one day, including posters of groups like diamant and jubilee. powerful, successful women. beautiful, loved by many women.
she keeps craving that — the fame, the love, the countless gifts — for so long that there’s no hesitation when she walks into breakfast one day and slams the flier for the audition to midas down on the table.
“i want to go.”
“are you sure?” her mother doesn’t even question her daughter’s whims but even jiwon knows a huge commitment when she looks at one.
minhee leaves no room for discussion.
2009.2
the number of classes she’s taken through the years come in handy when she’s faced with the process of auditioning.
minhee can’t sing. or rather she can, it’s just better for everybody if she refrains from doing so. she can dance, well enough that it’s not difficult for her to showcase some potential, though ultimately it’s her young age and pretty face that get her in.
she’s a rough stone but with enough of a shine to her that the company believes that, with time, they can polish her to their standards.
2009-2013
it takes minhee longer than it should for her to learn to behave the way she’s supposed to.
training is the worst. she’s expected to practice her dancing, her singing, her manners from the moment she joins the company. it’s also the worst because minhee starts to understand others don’t see her as the star she knows she is supposed to be. suddenly it’s not about her anymore, suddenly she’s not the best, the prettiest, the smartest, or even the snarkiest.
suddenly she’s nothing.
minhee gets written off as tone-deaf six months into her training. it’s when they realise she might need more work with that than others and brush her aside to practice rapping instead. every day she’s reminded of their opinion that she’s not good at anything.
( which — is true. mediocre at best is well fit for her vocals, and even other things there are at least a handful of people who do better than she ever could. minhee just refuses to see things this way, too caught up in her own head, too certain of her superiority and clinging onto her ego. )
it’s sheer spite that keeps her around. the positive side of her self-centered mind that gives minhee the extra boost of confidence to keep going. it’s also the greediness, the desire for the fame she strives for.
2003-2014
when it comes to the announcement of the lineup for the upcoming girl group, minhee only doesn’t expect to be picked because of her age.
“it’s a youthful concept.” they say “we need someone who can fit the image.”
( it’s code for we need you more for your looks than for any of your skills ).
minhee is thrilled. she calls her parents first, each of her brothers second, to lay down the news and all of them are either genuinely pleased or pretend well enough to fool the girl into believing they are happy for her.
in the years of the training, minhee hasn’t changed much. she’s way more polished in several aspects, her dancing at least up to midas’ standards and her rapping good enough to fit with what’s expected from her in the music the group’s going to put out but her personality is essentially the same. still too caught up in her own head, too focused on herself to the point where the girl doesn’t notice she’s not friends or even friendly with any of her members.
doesn’t matter, in her head. all of them are supposed to have one goal – to debut and be famous. as long as they can meet in the middle, that’s the only thing that matters to her.
2014-2016
their presence in the industry is lukewarm from day one.
the music they are putting out is not completely to her tastes, though minhee can appreciate the quality of the production and the marketability of it. they are supposed to be approachable, sweet, lovely, with the school uniforms that strongly resemble the ones minhee still has to wear for a few months after their debut before she graduates school.
public response is not good enough for her. doesn’t begin covering her strong need for attention and fame. it doesn’t seem enough for them that they can dance and that, minhee will reluctantly admit, her members are greater vocalists that she can hope to be.
it’s another blow to her ego that, at first, she’s not given much to do in their songs since her main rapper position is not that required in the type of music they are putting out. her members, better dancers or singers, are given more of the spotlight than minhee thinks she’ll ever be granted.
acting up is a rational reaction for her. not in front of the cameras — whatever she might be, minhee is image conscious enough to not want to blow her chances but she’s far from pleasant behind them. the girl knows she’s making things more difficult for her members by being too snappy, too demanding, but in her still teenage mind it makes sense for her to react this way to not being given the focus she’s always wanted. minhee is hurt, though the girl refuses to make her sadness known for what it is.
anger is a much more acceptable emotion.
2016-2018
in midst of her temper tantrum, minhee looks into what the public believes the girls are lacking. the variety aspect, she knows is not that strong, and if she has to sacrifice her desire to be known as the best idol in all aspects, at least the girl believes she can, for now, take the consolation prize of carrying the personality of the group.
it fits with her image for her to be the enthusiastic host of a music show, and it gives her a slightly better-known name, at least amongst kpop fans that follow the show religiously.
the offer to do we got married comes both from the way she starts projecting herself as a variety reference and the production desire to have someone slightly younger, from a sweet looking group, participating in the show.
minhee thinks it’s a dumb concept, always has, though it’s easy for her to pretend otherwise when she knows it’s a possibility for her to properly get her name out there. and just like she hopes for and expects, that’s exactly what happens. we got married is what she didn’t know she needed — the popularity she gets out of the show is more than enough to compensate for the times she had to pretend to enjoy being on a date with a man.
2018 sees minhee walking around with a higher head, a certainty that she actually has a place in the industry, unlike what others tried to make her believe. more than ever she boasts to whoever is willing to listen about her success, the famous people who name drop her, the times she’s recognized by an older public that she expected to appeal to.
2019.
she’s happy, even if her brothers — with the exception of minseok — pick up her calls less and less, not interested in hearing her go on and on about herself and her accomplishments. in the path to make herself more famous, minhee fails to acknowledge she’s almost isolated herself from the people who matter in her life, and the woman is yet to realize that.
for now, she’s happy to ride on the wave of interest people show her. she cares less and less about being in a group. not tired of it, though — minhee knows if she absolutely must, as she does because of her contract, she can keep going, though her heart obviously lies elsewhere.
if she must sacrifice part of what she’s accomplished in order to get what she’s always wanted, minhee has no qualms about doing just so.

IDOL DETAILS
STAGENAME: Saera CURRENT AGE: 23 DEBUT AGE: 18 TRAINEE SINCE AGE: 14 COMPANY: Midas ETC: she has become an active member of the beauty community (fashion or makeup) and trends constantly
IDOL IMAGE
tw anxiety, abuse
Saera really is a fabricated person. In no way she resembles the Noh Saeyeon behind the mask that is worn at all times.
Anyone that has seen Saeyeon with the cameras not being on would know that she is not the brightest person out there. However, whenever the cameras are on or the moment she sets foot on the stage, she instantly becomes a ray of sunshine. She acts well enough to trick everyone into thinking she is the happiest ever, almost like she is always on the clouds and have no problems to worry about when, in reality, it is the complete opposite.
It is hard to keep on a weighty mask for long hours every single day, but the singer already knew that she was going to keep an act since trainee days. More over, if she presents the slightest unhappiness to the public, she gets punished by Midas, so she just continues on to try her best.
The company could not be more pleased by the product they have created with all the praise that it gets. Every time Saera appears somewhere, a huge amount of attention is drawn to her unsuspicious, sweet smiles and the overall ecstatic aura that she radiates and that leads to the public directing their attention to Aurora as well. You could say that the girl is simply a live walking market strategy.
In order to achieve this sparkly girl brand, whenever Saeyeon gets out in public, she always has to be looking like a doll. She has never been allowed to appear anywhere without make up on, messy hair or common clothes. Recently, Saera has been trending on the beauty community due to the ammount of effort that the company puts into making her flawless looking, with the best make up looks and the fanciest clothes they can find.
IDOL HISTORY
Noh Saeyeon would never have thought that she would become Saera.
Born in Namwon, Saeyeon had a modest life and no big plans for the future. Everyday she would wake up, have a nice breakfast with her mom, go to a normal school, and keep the whole afternoon studying to go straight to bed at nighttime. On the weekends or holidays, she would walk by the Yocheon river while enjoying the good weather and think about going to an art college and paint the pretty landscapes that she was surrounded by.
It is hard to imagine such a peaceful life turning into a nightmare, right? But that is exactly what happened.
tw anxiety and depression
Well, Saeyeon never had a dad since the man who should have been her’s abandoned her mother before she was even born, but she never really cared since her relationship with her mom was all she needed. She felt loved and cared for at all times and what else could she ask for? Unfortunately, it seemed like the girl was simply born to turn out to be extremely unlucky.
When she was 14, her mom got really really sick, she was suddenly very weak and was admitted to the hospital. It turned out to be lymphoma and needless to say, Saeyeon got significantly sad to the point where she developed anxiety and depression. She was always worried sick about her mother’s condition and prayed every night for her to recover fast.
Two months later, although her mom was receiving treatment, she wasn’t a 100% cured, of course, so Saeyeon was visiting and while they were talking about various things, the girl broke out of nowhere. She started crying and said that she didn’t know what to do with ehr life.; she didn’t have any plans to being with, and now that her mom was hospitalized, she was aimless. Her mom let out a small laugh, trying to make the atmospere lighter. She said that when she was younger she wanted to be an idol, but it didn’t happen. It wasn’t an offer for Saeyeon to be an idol, but it clicked in her mind that that’s what she should do.
So it happened that way; Saeyeon said that she would move to Seoul to try to pursue her mother’s dream. She left with a promise that she would make it big and gain a lot of money to help to pay any bills that came up.
She then moved to Seoul, paid a small place with a low rent with the money the gained from a job she had worked for some time on Namwon and applied for a bunch of companies so she could move to a dormitory once she got accepted in one of the companies. She was sure that she would be accepted to not less than one company since she auditioned to a bunch of them. She didn’t aim for a specific company and was just waiting that one would call her, being a big one or a really small one. Although her auditions weren’t the most impressive thing ever, strangely, she got into Midas.
With that, she became a trainee. When she first joined the company, she had no idea how things would be. Her anxiety and depression were moderate, she could deal with them pretty well while on medication and everything was truly fine. However, not much time had to pass until her health started to go down. The intense training didn’t really seem worthy all the time, so she felt like she was wasting her time and straining herself for no reason. She was there for nothing? Even when she thought about her mom, giving up seemed tempting, but she fought against herself and kept going. She had no interest or love at all for dancing or singing, she was just copying what all the other trainees were doing.
It was so shocking when one day she was informed she was going to debut. She didn’t think this day would come at all, even if the company kept telling her things that hinted that it would. She just didn’t feel special in any way to be chosen out of a variety of trainees to debut. But she was there to debut and make her mom see her on the TV, magazines and so on, she remembered.
Recording Aurora’s first album was kind of fun, but at the same time it wasn’t what she wanted to do. She was once more very unlucky to be on Midas, a company that demands perfection everywhere. She had to record clean vocals, perfect dance moves, and so on, which made her always anxious wondering if she was making some mistake that only she wasn’t noticing. She didn’t want to be a burden to her group mates, after all.
However, worse than having to worry over recordings, was to worry over making mistakes on the stage. Since day one, Saera hates to go on stage. But she pretends like she loves it. Whenever she makes the smallest mistake, she has to keep awake all night doing intense exercises that are meant to hurt her as punishment. On the next day, she barely feels her body, but has to abide to her schedule. In conclusion, it’s pure hell. In some ways, she’s used to it, but she still doesn’t know how to deal with it. Aurora’s busy schedule makes her have headaches every day, straining herself to keep going and not stumble on anything on the middle of her path.
At the end of the day, at least Saeyeon can be grateful that being pushed to some kind of barbie image or so seems way better than being an actress or a popular cf model such as her group mates. Those require more strength than she has. It is just easier to be a walking doll that has to have no expression other than a silly smile all day long than having to spend energy on learning an array of expressions and ways of showing a whole selection of emotions other than happiness. It is true that she receives more attention than she would if she hadn’t been getting popular in the beauty community, but just being a lively mannequin that walks and talks is something that she can bear.
So she does.

STAGENAME: N/A CURRENT AGE: 27 DEBUT AGE: 22 TRAINEE SINCE AGE: 14 COMPANY: Midas ETC: this member has become known for her desirability in commercials
IDOL IMAGE
dahyun is a peculiar girl. the instant you meet her, you think something’s a little off, some screw needs to be tightened just a tad. she’s not crazy by any means, nor does she seem it. just… off. not all there. some might say her head is in the clouds, but that doesn’t take it far enough. she seems sweet and more than kind, but also maybe not the brightest. the words that come out of her mouth seem nonsensical and almost imaginary, like she’s living in her own world. like she can see something no one else can, and maybe that’s the case. or maybe she’s just not the brightest bulb in the bunch. or maybe she’s a genius. her silly comments usually make her the victim of constant laughter in interviews and variety shows. the stupid one in aurora, she’s seen the comments people leave. but she doesn’t hate it because what they say isn’t ALWAYS negative. they don’t hate it, and actually most like that she’s not some rocket scientist of an idol. it works for her.
the reason it works is because dahyun to the world is sunshine personified. at any event, in any backstage video, on any television show, her smile is blinding, but not forced. it’s easy and infectious, because she’s genuinely happy to be there with whoever else there is. she cares for the younger members to the best of her abilities, always showing skinship and urging them into the spotlight as well. since she was a kid, it’s been said she could befriend a tree branch if she wanted to, so hosts often love her. she makes them feel special and involved (and a little smarter) and seems to enjoy her time on any music show or interview. people gravitate towards her, fans lover her ‘unintentional aegyo’; she has a way of making anyone she interacts with feel like a close personal friend.
those who have grown up with park dahyun see the girl they’ve always known on the screen. when aurora debuted, she saw girls scrambling to find who they were on-screen (and off-screen), but she never felt that panic. sure, this was midas, and they’d never let someone just ‘be themselves’ on screen, but dahyun never felt forced to change who she was for the sake of the fans. they just wanted to… fine-tune her. tweak her, sand down any hard edges (they were few and far between and already sanded down a little), coach her less on what to say and more on what not to say. they encouraged the sweet parts of her, the parts full of aegyo and kind words to everyone. it fit aurora. she fit aurora.
IDOL HISTORY
dahyun grew up in an exceptionally loud household in seoul. her mother, miju, was a school teacher and her father, junho, was a pediatrician. as made evident by their professions, both had always loved children which translated into their desire for a big family. growing up with four other siblings wasn’t exactly normal, and her parents encouraged the uniqueness of their situation. the couple liked to joke to their friends that they just kept trying until they had the girl they always wanted, which was the reason for dahyun’s four older brothers. the house was constantly filled with laughter, rough-housing, and music. the music was always dahyun’s favorite part.
her family liked to say that she learned to dance before she learned to walk. they put her in dance classes at the age of three, ballet & tap to start with. as she grew older, she began experimenting with more types of dance, finding the most joy in contemporary and ballet. dance became her one love in life, her passion, and her escape when tragedy struck the family when she was nine.
miju had cancer. stage four cancer. they hadn’t caught it soon enough (there was no history of it in her family) and it was aggressive. very aggressive. they’d be lucky if they had a year left with her. dahyun still remembered the tears, the yelling, the confusion when her parents told them. everyone was loud and angry, but she didn’t fully comprehend what was happening, so she sat quietly, eyes watering ever-so-slightly, as the discussed what that meant for them.
the months to come were spent in and out of hospitals, talking to every doctor her father knew about what they could do. but in the end, the different doctors didn’t matter. dahyun’s mother passed eight months later, in october.
inevitably, the family dynamic changed. her father grew distant from her, despite her attempts at swallowing her own feelings to care for him, and spent more time at work or with dahyun’s brothers. it took a full year for him to come around and admit that she reminded him so much of her mother that it had been hard for him to be around her. but the family adjusted eventually, and grew closer after the incident.
dahyun had always been… unique. she never saw the world quite as everyone else did. in her eyes, there was a silver lining on every cloud and there was good in every person. she loved to talk and make friends, though half of what she said only made sense in her own mind. school was a struggle for her: while she tried hard to study and get good grades, she grew bored easily. there was so much more to the world than school and grades and math (especially math) and she wanted to be apart of it all.
so it was no surprise to her family when she decided to audition for midas at the age of fourteen. things were stable at home now, the family would never truly be over what had happened, but they learned to cope and continue with their lives. dahyun wanted dance to be her life, she knew it, and midas was the company, full of successful groups. dancing was her main draw, and her vocals and visuals weren’t half bad. she was signed and her life as a trainee began.
those who met her were under the impression that the hardships of a trainee life didn’t affect her, but that was far from the case. she spent nine years as a trainee. nine long years of strict diets and schedules, of being locked away from the outside world. nine years of constantly being told she wasn’t good enough, despite a lifetime of training. nine years of being passed up for someone taller, someone smarter, someone sexier or just generally more well-rounded. no person would be immune to that. it seemed every other day, she was finding somewhere private to cry, but she always made sure no one saw that side of her. dahyun was sunshine, not rain clouds. so she internalized her issues and plastered a smile on her face in public.
she had been training for four years when midas was finally ready to debut a new girl group: su.grr. she couldn’t have been more excited. despite generally being modest, she knew she was one of the best dancers they had and that there was a good chance she would get to debut after four years of training. but when the lineup was finally confirmed, her name wasn’t on the list. “you’re beautiful, you dance beautifully, you work hard, but you’re just not sexy enough. maybe next time.” as a teenage girl, her self-esteem was already fragile enough. it didn’t help to have a room full of grown men tell her she wasn’t sexy enough.
years passed, watching yet another group debut (olympus) and take her friends with it. it wasn’t until 2014 that her life took a drastic change. dahyun debuted as part of aurora as the main dancer. the years of ‘not being the right fit’ were finally paying off. cute came easy to her. she was the youngest in her family, and while she wasn’t the maknae in the group (not even close), they liked to joke that she acted more like the maknae than the maknae actually did. she was always kind and seemingly innocent, which prompted her group mates (and often their fanbase) to act protective. aurora felt like somewhere she belonged, and she hadn’t felt that in a long time.
things started out great. she was just happy to debut, even if the songs and concepts weren’t exactly ideal for someone her age. she loved her girls and she loved the chance to perform. finally. but as she grew older, and as other groups seemed to receive more and more attention, she felt the insecurities and restlessness return. so dahyun supplements it with what she can: photoshoots, variety appearances, dance competitions. just like the rest of the girls, she found her niche: commercials, brand endorsements, anything featuring her smiling face and positive personality. but dahyun had always wanted to be more than a pretty face. she quickly learned that in midas, you were only allowed to be what they wanted you to be. she tries to hide the negative emotions, tries to hide the uncertainty with her career, but everything comes to light eventually. she knows that if she’s not careful, one day she’ll just… break.
