#id: who is tommy elliot?

it’s been rumored that dick will appear in the next battinson movie (please matt reeves do it for the people 🛐) but i was wondering magic wand, full creative control ceded to you, what villain(s) would you want to see featured? i love what they did with the riddler in the first, managing to maintain a level of camp and absurdity while still positioning him as a dangerous and serious threat. same with the penguin and falcone. i’ve seen rumors that hush may be the central villain in the sequel? which would not be my first choice, but i’m also not mad at it
obviously (hopefully) if they’re doing dick they’ll include tony zucco but beyond him what would be your dream villain(s) appearance? (and who would you cast! if you have one in mind)
if i had full creative control via magic wand i think there’s only one right answer — an actual batman film where two face is the primary antagonist.
hush super sucks for a lot of reasons, not least because his whole shtick only works if a) tommy elliot is well established in canon prior to faking his death and b) bruce has the sufficient pool of allies to make the story beats work. the batman canon has neither. cringe. get him outta here.
unlike a lot of gotham rogues, harvey dent has a relationship with both batman and bruce wayne. he’s a literal symbol of what bruce is trying to achieve in costume. he represents how a lack of supportive infrastructure can harm anyone, even those trying to do good. his internal morality, his desperate desire for control when he lost everything by another’s actions, is a really really good foil to the batman mythos.
i also think he’d continue the riddlers ideology from the first film — here’s someone who does want to change things for the better, and loses literally everything by doing so. harvey in general is just a really interesting character who’s never gotten proper respect on screen, and i think that’s a shame!! he’s a really fascinating dude!! his relationship with bruce as a civilian might inspire bruce to develop his public persona. so many options!
in an ideal world, dick grayson would feature in the first half of the film, then two face in the second. you’d have to ignore long halloween + dark victory canon to make this work, but that’s fine. maybe harvey would be disfigured while in court with zucco — a fun connection to the acid that snapped the graysons lines. harvey also has an interesting history with robin, and this would be a great start to that too.
idk who id pick to cast — someone who could portray harveys trauma in a way that’s engaging rather than disrespectful. if colin farrell hadn’t already played the penguin id say he’d be a pretty good choice. michael b jordan or daniel kaluuya would also do a phenomenal job, and keep him around the same age as bruce. someone very charismatic and charming. as long as it isn’t jacob elordi or tom holland i think there’s a lot of potential
let bruce have tender moments with gothams district attorney and adopt an orphan!!! that’s all i want!!

Yeah Hush is... not good...
I’m just… If you had asked me three days ago about Hush I would have had nothing but good words. A comic classic, one of the first Batman stories I read and an old favorite, a combo of Jim Lee’s stellar art and Loeb’s masterful storytelling.
Rereading on shift last night reminded me that I haven’t physically read it in years and I had a. forgotten how messy it was b. Probably didn’t understand Batman the way I do now. I’m way too tired for long explanations and yall don’t want to see it so I’ll lay out the basics.
- We herald Jim Lee as some kind of artistic deity and by gum some of his panels were beautiful but also every. single. shot that had a woman in it was painful. Everyone was in a body hugging, tit revealing, gravity defying outfit posed in a way no one ACTUALLY stands all tall, curvy and stacked and at times uncanny valley. It was honestly really distracting.
- Its no secret I love Jeph Loeb’s TLH/DV and this story was clearly continued /borrowed from those stories but it just felt kinda cheap? He employed a lot of the same narrative devices used in both stories which I understand but it just really didn’t fit the theme of the story. The big bad guy reveal was not only super obvious but also just badly scripted and a frigging disaster overall.
- Baby me read it and was like “look at all the Batfam! What a good story” but a lot of them are characterized or twisted to suit the story. Selina, my poor Selina, she was a catty (pun intended) bitch the whole time. ‘owo she gave B a kiss’ but like she was either actively fighting against B or needing to be saved, even when she was “helping” she was demeaning Bruce and his coworkers (family) and I’m worried on what Lee/Loeb consider a healthy M/F relationship. Alfred felt flat and remarkably uninvolved in such a personal Bruce Wayne story. Tommy Elliot was a Gary Stu from the start and didn’t have 1 (one) genuine moment the whole book.
- The few bright spots of characterization were Dick and his relationship with B was wonderful and Tim’s little deception with Bruce/Selina was very nice (though it shouldn’t have been necessary).
- The worst to suffer was Bruce and it honestly broke my heart to see Loeb do that. They did the ‘darkness and pain are my only friends, I am so alone, I have no one who understands so the mission is all that matters’ which fits early Bruce more not a Batman who’s grown and matured and amassed a pretty sizable family, in and out of costume. There’s one line where I actually put the book down and stewed for a minute, when he’s fighting Superman where he says “Clark is a fundamentally good man and deep down I am not” which is such a criminally inaccurate description of Bruce Wayne who goddamn loves people more than just about anyone on Earth. There were fleeting moments where we see his kindness and understanding of his heart’s great strength (his whole Jay monologue) but they feel SO out of sorts compared to the theme of the rest of the book.
- Okay I will say I do still like the Jason scene. If only bc i wish I could’ve been a fan as this came out and lost my shit with everyone else like ‘JASON TODD!?!?’ Plus it was fun to pick out where real Jay exchanged for Clay as we know happens in UtRH. Its a bit messy like the rest of the story and kind of doesn’t make sense if you think on it but this was a great example of a comic thing being kind of bad but you’re like “ya know, i don’t care I still like anyway”. I DIDN’T like B’s constant bashing of Robin Jay though ‘tbh Jason was never this good’ ‘he viewed it as a game that got him killed’. I know its not a new idea and almost assuredly was done as set up to UtRH which came out the next year I think but still made me frown.
- Uh rogues were used poorly, where baby me saw it as a grand adventure taking the best of Batman me now was just annoyed at them trying to cram as many familiar faces as possible. Plus the whole idea that Elliot as Hush was working with all these guys is a wreck. I do really still dig the idea of Eddie being behind it all, wish they did more with “Riddler knows Bats’ ID” but w/e. Also idk wtf they were doing to harvey but it was a disservice to his arc in TLH
- Basically the story itself was chaotic, difficult to follow and the conclusion is both obvious and made no sense. The characters were warped visions of themselves tilted through a sexist, grim dark lens to make a Batman world that just felt off with every single word. There’s still elements I did enjoy, I cant say I hate-hate it but wow I won’t be rereading that one for a while.
#Batman Hush#idk I guess I got massive whiplash from what I remembered vs what the story actually is#for so long I cited it as definitive batfam as a good example of a story to get into comics#but ug probably won't recc that to newbies now#it doesn't paint the best picture of the batfam

Tommy Gun Wizards #1
Tommy Gun Wizards #1 Dark Horse Comics 2019 Written by Christian Ward Illustrated by Sami Kivelä Coloured by Christian Ward & Dee Cunniffe Lettered by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou Mobsters, magic, and mayhem in the Prohibition era! Eliot Ness and his team of Untouchables work overtime taking on dangerous criminals that hide in the seedy underbelly of 1930's Chicago. Except in this world, Al Capone isn't dealing in alcohol, but in magic. With Lick, a drug that grants magical powers to anyone who ingests it, mobsters become wizards, ordinary men become monsters, and darker secrets than Ness can imagine lie at the heart of it all. I rather enjoyed this book. The premise is solid, the cast of characters interesting and diverse plus the whole idea of alternate history infused with magic well they've just taken this to a whole new level. Now aside from the fact of when this story is being set, prohibition in Chicago, how this is being told is as impressive to me. The way the book is structured is fantastic and that the we see this whole deal with the Church and a Priest spewing fake news that would make Trump proud well it is kind of fun to see. I do like the way that this story is being told and how the book is structured. The sting operation was okay it serves it's purpose I just it hadn't been interrupted and instead we'd started with the introduction of characters. That little bit did nothing to tell me who the guy who went into the bar was and while I now have this desire to see more of Detective Charlie Drake Wilson I still think there was a more effective way to have this be done. Let's face it when dude took that lick and starting shooting fire all over the place that was the best bits out of this, including Mr. White doing his disappearing act. Of course it is the events that come after the raid where things get even more interesting. Christian does such an amazing job in getting the reader to become engaged in the story. Elliot pushes himself harder than anyone knows, realises and should so it's no surprise that while our drunk magic man is in the clink that happens. Seriously the creativity and imagination that we see here id feckin brilliant! The characterisation and the story development that occurs is something that grabs our attention, raises an eyebrow (see Spock) and get lost in their own minds for a moment. The interiors here are gorgeous. The linework we see shows a strong steady hand the way that the varying weights are utilised so that they create this attention to detail is incredibly well done. I really like the way we see the composition inside the panels it gives Sami the opportunity to utilise backgrounds and with the page layouts this way there can be those ones that are blank right alongside them and still be incredibly effective. Plus we see some nice depth perception and then there are moments like seeing the river, which I still love doing when I am in Chicago, which make this as delightful as it. The eye Sami has for storytelling is extraordinary as we see the angles and perspective in the panels. The colour work as well is beautifully done. The way we see the hues and tones within the colours themselves to create the shading and shadows that we see is extraordinary. To see Elliot's hand on that last page with those colours holding that it was amazingly well rendered. Overall putting this new spin on Elliot Ness and the Untouchables as they try to put Capone out of business and clean up Chicago is a lot fun. There is darkness abounding here and it is pretty out in the open so can Elliot and his men stay on the side of the righteous or will they succumb to their inner darker desires in the name of the cause? Interesting heroes and equally dynamic and fascinating villains in a world of magic and mobsters what more could you possibly ask for?

I kinda liked the Riddler's involvement in Hush though, and how Batman was able to shut him down. That whole scene was cool.
I really liked Eddie’s involvement. I thought it was a fun fascinating twist on a character who is usually written off as a joke. Its easy to believe the big bads like Ras al Ghul and Bane would know about Bruce’s identity but its real fun to imagine Ed, a central part of the main Rogues gallery being in the know. Imagine him playing poker with Jon, Croc and Ivy all the while knowing the Bat’s real ID. Gosh they could have had so much fun with that, the reveal was great but they could have done more.
If Hush had been a little better structured, Eddie’s involvement would have been a logical conclusion instead of a kind of out of no where sucker punch. The whole point of Hush was that it was a very personal battle for Bruce and Batman. We were made to believe it cut deep because Tommy Elliot, an old childhood friend B hasn’t seen since his parents’ died was the main antagonist. But that’s boring, it would have been better if it was personal because very few people know Bruce better than the Rogues, especially an old hat like Eddie. They’ve seen him at his best, at his worst, watched his costumes, tactics and sidekicks change. Some brat Bruce knew in elementary school doesn’t know him, know Batman but someone who’s walked parallel to him for years would.
If the story had centered on B’s paranoia at what was going on around him, pulling away at first from his family, his support system only to band together with them to defeat the enemy would have been great. The batfam were just window dressing in the story which is a shame since they’re are Batman’s greatest love and strength. Anyway it could have been so much better but alas

Transfer news: Lewis Dunk could leave for Leicester says Murray
& # 39; I think everyone has received their prize & # 39 ;: Glenn Murray hopes Brighton can retain Captain Lewis Dunk, but admits that he could defend himself against speculation from Leicester City
Glenn Murray is realistic, it is about the possible exit from Lewis Dunk
The defender was linked this summer to a transfer to Leicester City
Leicester would be interested if Harry Maguire leaves the King Power
Murray hopes that Brighton can retain Dunk's services for next season

Glenn Murray says the players of Brighton England international Lewis Dunk remains at the Amex Stadium, but admits & everyone has his prize & # 39;
Albion Defending Dunk is strongly linked to a switch to top flight rivals Leicester for a reported compensation of £ 45 million.
The foxes of Brendan Rodgers may be on the market for next week's transfer if Harry Maguire – allegedly interesting leaves Manchester United and Manchester City the King Power Stadium.
Technical director Dan Ashworth from Brighton has previously talked about Dunk as & # 39; speculation & # 39; rejected, and Seagulls striker Murray would like to keep the club one of their most important artists.
& As far as all our better players are concerned, they are the ones you want to keep, & Murray told PA.
& # 39; But football is both a business and a sport and I think everyone has their price.
& # 39; As for the players, we all want Lewis to stay and lead us to another Premier League cam paign. & # 39;
Murray hopes that his teammate will stay but admits that every player has a price tag on the market
Dunk, who participated in an open training session on Monday, captured his hometown team during much of last season and was able to play the role take on permanent duties under new head coach Graham Potter after the recent retirement of former skipper Bruno.
The 27-year-old, who came through Albion & # 39; s youth ranks, has made 270 senior appearances for the club, only two of 76 Premier miss Competition competitions since promotion in 2017.
His beautiful form alongside middle back partner Shane Duffy was rewarded with an England debut against the United States last November, although he has been omitted from the most recent squadrons by Gareth Southgate.
In the meantime, advanced Murray is approaching the 2019-2020 campaign with a realistic chance of becoming the Brighton record
The 35-year-old, whose current contract expires next summer, has 15 goals in all competitions needed to surpass the 123 scored by Tommy Cook between 1921 and 1929.
& # 39; It would mean incredibly much to be the club's highest goal scorer ever – also a current Premier League club, & Murray said.
& # 39; Of course I have scored goals in the divisions: League One, Championship and Premier League now.
Leicester's interest in Dunk would probably increase if Harry Maguire leaves the club this summer
& # 39; It would really be a great moment, but it is still far away and I won't really waste much time thinking until it is reached – if it is reached. & # 39;
Brighton has announced that striker Percy Tau has joined Club Brugge for a long-term loan.
South Africa International Tau, which does not appear before Albion, returns to Belgium after having spent the last term at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
Technical director Ashworth told the official website of the club: & # 39; This is a great move for Percy. It is a step to the next level in Belgium and it also has a view of Champions League football. & # 39;
