Island Escapade [Ex-con! 2p! America x reader x Denmark] 07
Island Escapade - 07 - She's my collar Wordcount: 2, 877 The reader is referred to as she/her.
"Mathias is missing."
"Save your jokes for dinnertime, Allen. It would've been better to laugh in front of him." You snorted. Without sparing him so little as a glance, you leaned forward to crush a few cloves of garlic under the blade of a knife. He stood at your side with his eyes narrowed into a troubled glare—you could brush me off every other time, just not today.
"I'm not kidding, dollface." He set down the missing man's phone on the countertop in a light clunk. "He's been gone since noon. Dude went awol the second he finished eating. And it's nearly seven."
You lifted your gaze to the device, then to him. It wasn't the first time he did something like this, but now that he mentioned it, his cloud of worry seemed to float right over.
"... Hm. That's weird." Giving your hands a quick wipe, you marched out to the porch overlooking the surrounding beaches. Allen appeared from behind. "You don't think he went to someone else's house, do you? It's getting dark... And the rain's setting in."
"He's not stupid enough to not bring an umbrella, right?" He asked.
One of your eyes narrowed in thought. "Doubt it." Redirecting your line of vision to a spot on the fencing, your words manifested into reality when you saw that your umbrella was untouched. Immediately, you frowned. "What on Earth could he be up to?" The other shrugged with his lips pursed together.
"Maybe he's trying to get your attention by making you worry."
You cracked your neck. "Well, he always was one for theatrics. He'll probably come back soaking head to toe to be dramatic."
You couldn't put it past him to do something like that. Again.
"Ouch." Allen chuckled, following you back inside. "You do this every time he runs off?"
"Yeah, because I'm usually right." Mathias was either straightforward and demanding or didn't say anything at all. Like being dramatic.
There was no compromise whatsoever, but you doubted he knew what the word meant. The man had the communication skills of an egg. "But if he proves me wrong, we have something to be scared of."
Making your way back to the kitchen, you scraped up the chopped-up vegetables and dropped them into a frypan for a satisfying sizzle. Despite your silence, the worry was visibly setting in your downcast eyes. Even he could see it, but he never brought it up until it was time to eat—the last and ultimate test.
If he was late he might as well have been dead.
He never missed dinner or any meal for that matter. And yet, there you sat, halfway through your stirfry. Allen already finished his, now watching you with his cheek resting on his hand. "... You good?"
His brows were slightly furrowed.
You kept your head down to prod around your plate absentmindedly.
"Yeah... He’ll turn up."
As the minutes droned by without him, the plate next to yours grew colder and colder. What was once hot and piping had cooled off and hardened. The generous serving of what you made—double of what you had—was no longer as appetizing as it used to be.
"Listen. He's not showing up."
He watched you glance up slowly. What he blurted was disheartening, but he couldn't take how depressed you looked.
"... You're wrong. He always shows up." You murmured faintly, unable to return his steely gaze. As you continued, your trust in your own words completely disintegrated.
"It doesn't matter how late it is."
Your stubbornness was just a front. Allen saw right through it. Digging his hands through his dark maroon hair, creases formed between his eyes as he hesitated to continue. But he had to do what had to be done. "Sorry, it had to be me, doll."
He raised an index to point at himself. "Look me in the eye and tell me he's gonna show up." You didn't budge. "That's what I thought. And what did you say his bedtime was? Nine. It's nearly eight."
A brief silence fell as you both shared the same thought.
Mathias was like a kid.
Allen felt worse to know you used to date him. Even now, he could see you worrying yourself to death, but you made no effort to admit it.
"Look, if you’re scared, then you’re scared. But he’s a hardy guy, ain’t he? If I can fit into his clothes, then he’s got a good chance of surviving without eating his veggies for the night."
There it was—the glimmer of hope in your eyes as you lit up to what he said. It was exactly what you needed to hear. The comfort you couldn't bring yourself to ask for. After all, Mathias's absence impacted the atmosphere more than you and Allen cared to confess.
But for you, it hurt more than you could fathom.
A few hours later, there was still no sign of him appearing. You were patient, however, and continued to sit in the living room. But desperate was the better word as you fixated on the door. Where was he? Was he okay? The muffled sound of a toothbrush stopped, which was followed by the hum of the faucet turning on.
Out walked Allen in his pyjamas. His underwear. You had long given up on telling Mathias to not do it. And you were too exhausted for Allen's antics. "You should get some sleep, doll. We'll sort this out tomorrow." The couch dipped to your right. "Or do I gotta sit here all night too?"
You bit your lip for a deep frown.
"No, you go to sleep. I'm not letting you do this because my stupid ex can't look after himself." A sigh fell from your lips. "You're not responsible for anything, and I wouldn't be able to sleep, anyway."
He rose a brow. "Okay, fine. But who said you had to be responsible?"
"Me."
Allen clicked his tongue. "I know you care about him, but I have to be frank." He turned to you with a softened gaze. "There's nothing you can do but wait til' morning. We can look for him when we can actually see."
Why did he have to put it like he was already dead?
You practically launched yourself into his arms, much to his surprise. Tightening your coils around him, it didn't take long for you to feel his strong arms around you. He wasn't used to being appreciated, but damn, did it feel good. "Aw, haw haw. Gimme some. Let's hug it out."
"If he comes back alive, I'm gonna kill him." Your voice was no higher than a whisper to stop it from cracking. When you realized what you were doing, bile rose in your throat.
"You can kill him all you want when he gets back, and he will." Allen pet your hair softly. Given the height difference, he could rest his chin on the top of your head. "Don’t cry over that dumbass. He doesn’t deserve it."
"But you don’t understand—" Pulling away to rub away some stray tears, the effort ended up in vain as more streamed down your face. "—we were still fighting today."
His eyes drooped in sympathy as you finally spilled. "Why did he have to fucking disappear when I was already ignoring him? He was trying to talk to me for days but I never even looked at him...!"
You sucked in a sharp breath to hold back a sob, then to replace it with a laugh. "About how good his cereal was, or how bad the weather was—or, or a funny video or something just as stupid."
All Allen could do was dab tissues over your face, so he huffed out a soft sigh. Hearing it only made bottling everything in harder. And it showed in the tremble that seized your body.
"C’mon... Don’t be like that." He pulled you in again, unable to bear the sight. Hearing it was bad enough.
God, were you a mess.
He’d never say it out loud, but it turned him on more than anything. Hugging you tighter as the warmth flurried more in his chest, he felt something wet spread over his tank. You were so vulnerable, and to be here when you needed someone—he never felt closer to you than now.
"I'll be however I wanna be. This is just how it's always been with him." You admitted bitterly through a glare. "He pulls something, but I'm the one who ends up feeling bad. I can’t win arguments! And you have no idea how many times it’s happened."
Never had he witnessed such raw honesty and ugly emotions from you. Allen just never imagined Mathias to be the cause of it. But then again, you had a history with him he was never privy to.
For just a moment, he felt like crying too.
"You gotta stop beating yourself up. Shit happens. But I promise he'll show up. I got a feeling we aren't getting rid of him this easily."
You sniffed. "You really think so?"
"I know so."
The next morning, you were awakened by the buzz of your phone. Rummaging under your pillow to find the source of those obnoxious vibrations, you pulled out the device to find yourself staring at the line, "No caller ID" across your screen. With little hesitation, you answered it. Inside, you prayed and prayed it was who you thought it was.
"... Hello?"
"(F/N)! It's me!" The voice piped. "Gah, thank god you picked up!"
Your heart soared as you sprung up.
"Mathias?! Is that you?"
"Who else could it be, kæreste? Of course, it's me! I just wanted to let you know I'm okay! A little lost, but okay!" He spoke breathlessly. Now, the Danish pet name and unnecessary amount of shouting? You couldn't mistake it for anyone else.
Immediately, a huge wave of relief washed over you. But it was short-lived.
The fear burned away into a livid kind of fury.
"What the fuck, Mat? I was worried to death!" You screamed. You could practically imagine him holding the phone away while cringing at the volume. But it was merely a taste of his own medicine.
He laughed. "Sorry, sorry. It's a long story, but I promise to tell you everything."
"Sorry? I thought you died!" A few knocks sounded on your door. Sliding yourself off the bed, you unlocked it without a second thought. In walked a disgruntled Allen with his face scrunched up.
He was never a morning person, but today was a special occasion.
"I'm really sorry! I didn't mean to worry you, I swear!"
You scowled, putting him on speaker. "Then you better start talking."
A weight settled on your head—your companion decided it to be a perfect resting place for the meantime while he listened in. He then wrapped himself around you. As tired as he was, he still managed a wide, floaty smile. So he was right, wasn't he? Rather than crying over the dumb Dane, you were about to give him the lecturing of a lifetime.
So rather than telling Allen off, you let him do as he pleased. You even held onto his arm that found its place on your waist.
"Uhh, so... I'm kinda stranded."
You expected him to say, on a random island on the Spanish archipelago. Maybe he had gone out for a swim to sulk by his lonesome after you forgave Allen. It was understandable, considering he was genuinely convinced he was trying something. And because he broke safety protocols, he managed to get swept away without anyone realizing it. How he didn't drown was beyond you.
Little did you know, he took swept up to a whole other level.
"Well, spit it out! The faster you tell us where you are, the easier it'll be for you, me, and the coast guard."
Mathias 'uhhed' again.
"... Erm... I think I'm in New York?"
New York.
The Big Apple.
It was where Allen was supposed to be—his home. How did they end up switching places?
If you could, you would have gone on and on about how impossible he was. Even Allen was shocked at how red you were as you shrieked into the speaker. Unfortunately, the displaced man was borrowing a phone from a random passerby on the street, so he had to hang up. Before he did, you relayed to him that you were breaking up with him twice out of spite. It didn't really make sense, but it incited a huge reaction from Mathias nonetheless.
Wha~at! But you already broke up with me! You can't break up with me again! He'd pleaded. But he was wrong. Anything he humored you on, you could use against him. And that included made-up dating culture. He deserved that, at least.
It wasn't just the random location he wound up in that troubled you, even if he was across the North Atlantic Ocean. It was how he ended up there in the first place. Apparently, he decided to do some vigilante work and sneak onto the ferry that stole the turtle eggs. But he wasn't Batman.
He was Mathias.
So he was stranded in a foreign country with no money. And like Allen said, it was strangely hard to get rid of him. Before the call ended, you told him to go to the Spanish consulate for help. He didn't even realize he could do that. So Allen was right. How he wasn't dead was beyond you! Fucking around with animal smugglers, then actually considering sleeping outside on the streets of New York?
He'd be killed faster than he could say Ferrari.
The next day around noon, Mathias glided in on a yacht accompanied by Antonio. Inhaling the fresh salt of the Mediterranean waters, he giddily stepped down onto the pier. How he missed this smell. Before he could get far, the rapid thudding of your footsteps came charging at him at unprecedented speed.
"Mat!"
There were bags under his eyes, but the sight of you running at him was the greatest injection of energy he could ever ask for. "(F/N)!" Outstretching his arms just in time to catch you, he stumbled back from the sheer force of the collision. "Hey! Did you miss me?"
"Fuck you...! I always thought you were stupid, but not that stupid!" You exasperated in the hug. Mathias responded by holding you tighter and nuzzling into your neck. He could listen to you scold him forever, but the opportunity to breathe you in was rarer than a blue moon. "What did you think you could accomplish, huh? You’re not special! We were gonna call the cops, you idiot! You weren’t supposed to trespass and try and save the day!"
He sighed contentedly. "Mm, I’m sorry. I only ever meant to go in for a quick look. But I had to hide when people came. So I hid for like..." His voice was low with huskiness, a sure fire sign he was fatigued. "Half a day. In an empty crate. I stole one of the labels and shipped myself out so they wouldn’t find me."
Pulling away with a huff, you reached up to cup his cheeks. There was untold fondness in how you held him, even if your words didn’t reflect it. "Just shut up and take nap. I’ve had enough of your idiocy." You flickered your sad eyes over his roughed up features. There were more bruises than you could bear, and it broke your heart to see them.
Mathias picked up rather quickly for once, so he gave both your hands a reassuring squeeze. Then, he gleamed. "Don’t worry! I heal super fast! And even faster if you kiss it better," The blonde winked.
If it weren’t for the bruises, you would have pushed his face away. "I would have given you a punch, but it looks like you were punished enough."
He began to walk with you back to your house.
"Oh? So are you saying you’re not mad at me anymore?" He chimed hopefully.
You shot him a glare. "Far from it. I was gonna have your ass on the couch, but I’ll be nice since you spent a night in a box." Mathias’s smile widened, but you were pleased to say he was jumping the gun. "You can sleep in my bed. But I won’t be using it."
He pouted.
"You’d rather sleep on the couch than with me?"
"No, I’d rather sleep in a different room than you." Grinning at that, you ascended the small flight of stairs to your front porch. Allen just walked outside to greet you both. Speak of the devil. "I’ll be crashing this guy’s room."
"Wait, you are?" The said guy blinked.
Mathias’s jaw dropped. You’ve never seen him this horrified in his life. "What? No way! You—you can’t!"
You hummed delightfully. "My house, my rules. Don’t like them, you’re free to leave. You have a home to go back to, you know?"
"I think I’ll stay." His cheeks blew up in discontent.
Allen shared your mischievous grin. "Heh. It must suck being a loser all the time. But I can’t really say anything when I can’t relate." He shrugged.
"Hey! I’m not!"

His Gift
Tumblr media
Y/N or Ship(s): Ship (SakuAtsu)
Genre: Angst
Warnings: Cheating, Foul language (cursing)
Summary: When Atsumu asked Sakusa to be his partner. He made promises, and so did Sakusa. They said they would forever fulfill, til death did their part. But maybe they were just empty words. Words out of a fairytale for Sakusa. Maybe they meant nothing.
A/n: Please enjoy and request what you want next! The longer version is out on my archive account! Sorry for grammatical and spelling errors!
Tumblr media
The Fight
As soon as Atsumu got home he ran through the room. Finding the thing he wanted he grabbed his lover tight. He had immediately regretted it seeing the pure fear in his lover's eyes. He dropped his arm down and bit his lips for a second.
“Sorry om-” he tried to say.
“Fuck.” Sakusa ran to the bathroom locking himself in. He felt disgusting not because he didn’t like his lover touching him. It was quite the oppisite he craved his touch. But, his germaphobia had spiked up lately and he couldn’t control it. He started a shower, washing himself as clean as possible. As he came out Atsumu rushed over.
“Sorry I wasn’t thinking” atsumu whispered.
“Of course you weren’t when do you ever think?” Sakusa screamed.
“Are you serious? I didn’t mean to do it, I just wanted to hug you. I am sorry I forgot that I don’t have a normal boyfriend,” Atsumu shouted back. The look from Sakusa's eyes changed completely.
“What?” Sakusa couldn’t belive his ears
“I wish you had yourself as a boyfriend. You suck. You fucking suck. You never listen and you never respect my boundaries. I told you it was high this week and instead of listening you immediately Wanna touch me. God knows where you were. I really wish I wasn’t dating you. You are too loud. You are too clingy. You're disgusting, you touch everything. So if we are talking about normal. I hope you realize your the farthest thing from normal.” Sakusa said, looking dead into his eyes.
It took a second for Atsumu to feel the full weight of his words. Tears brimmed his eyes as he bit his lip.“Sorry.. I..I won’t bother you for the rest of the week,” he managed to whisper through the tears. He grabbed his keys and phone leaving to his brothers.
“Wai-” Sakusa was already too late, the door slamming behind Atsumu.
The Aftermath
They hadn’t talked for over a week. He didn't know what to think about it, and he needed time alone. Sakusa soon stopped trying to contact him as much, only calling twice a day.
Atsumu’s phone rang. Slowly he reached out and looked at his phone. There was his caller ID. “My Omi” Unknowingly tears began to fall as Atsumu picked up.
“Hello?,” he could hear Sakusa’s soft voice.
“H..Hey,” he forced the words out.
“I’m sorry.” The words just fell out of Sakusa’s mouth so effortlessly. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” Atsumu wished didn’t pick up the phone. “Please..”
Shit. Shit. Don’t please. Don’t you dare Atsumu. You can’t keep running into his arms. He needs to learn the weight of his words. But.. No you can’t he has done this before, just think for once. ~ Atsumu
But even though he told himself no, The words wouldn’t come out, “One chance...” he whispered, “Only one more Om- Sakusa.”
“Thank you...” A smile could almost be heard in his voice. A smile full of lies. One he knew would hurt him but he couldn’t resist it. “Let’s talk about it when you get home okay?”
“Okay talk to you soon, love you.” Then silence as he hung up.
A Month Later
Fuck. How could you fall again? You knew it was coming and yet you didn’t leave him. You are so weak. Weak for him. ~ Atsumu
There stood Sakusa, his arms around another person. God damn it. Yamaguchi looks over at Atsumu. Surprised to see how ‘okay’ Atsumu looked.
But he wasn’t okay. He wanted to leave but then again he couldn't control himself suddenly the words fell out.
“Do you love me?” Atsumu whispers loud enough for Sakusa to hear.
He turns to see Atsumu. “Baby..” his voice was soft.
“No seriously do you love me, or has this been a joke to you?” His voice breaks a little. “God fucking damn it. Do you even know what day today is?” His eyes now filled with so much hatred. As the silence hit him. So did the realization, then the pain.
“I..I” Sakusa didn’t know what to say. His arms around the other person slowly dropped.
He looked at Atsumu still trying to process what he had done. He bit his lip. The flavor of the cherry chapstick still is strong on his lips. The flavor is so sweet, yet bitter.
The tears came to his eyes.
Stop it Sakusa. Stop it! It is your fault stop it! You keep hurting him. What are you doing? Stop it. You love him don’t you? ~ Sakusa
No, he needed them to stop. It was his fault and he needed to remember that. “I do love you my ‘Tsumu.”
He looked dead into Sakusa’s eyes hurt.
“What...?”
“Love? You call this love? Well I guess my parents were right. Love is the best thing ever.” Atsumu’s voice was soft yet it felt like he was yelling. The sarcasm rolled off his tongue with ease
Sakusa’s head hung low ashamed and embarrassed. “Im sorry..” was all he could force out.
Love? How can you lie so effortlessly. How dare you still call me your’s? ~ Atsumu
Atsumu took a deep breath. “Om-“ he stopped himself “Sakusa you are only sorry because you got caught. Osamu, Suna, Oikawa, Kenma, Hinata, Tendou, Yamaguchi... everyone but me could see how much we didn’t work.” Atsumu tightened his grip on the gifts. He looked down.
Yamaguchi finally spoke, “Sakusa, I hope you realized how much you messed up. He fucking loved you so much. He told us that you would change. So how long has this been going on?”
Atsumu gulped, not wanting to know himself. “Please let’s just go..”
Yamaguchi looked at Sakusa with disgust, “Not yet. Sakusa has it been a joke since day one?”
Please say something. Please just answer omi.. ~ Atsumu
No of course not. I love him! I love my ‘Tsumu. Come on Sakusa say it! Tell them how much you love him ~ Sakusa
Silence.
I’m Sorry Atsumu... I can’t keep hurting you. I want to be with you but I know that I will just keep hurting you. Give me some time I promise my baby, I will gain your trust again. I will prove to you, that I love you. I will show everyone how much I love you. Trust me just this once please. ~ Sakusa
“Thanks for the answer.” Yamaguchi cursed.
Atsumu finally was able to make eye contact with his lover. Slowly he put the bag down. “Happy anniversary love...” He bit his lip and gave one final fake, broken smile. “We should take a break. Thanks for my gift. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for everything. Goodbye.”
His eyes watered as he walked away.
Sakusa knew in a week this was not going to be fixed yet, he still wanted to be with him he still wanted to be his.
I am sorry that I broke our promises. I am sorry that I lost your trust. I love you so much. Goodbye my love. ~ Sakusa
Why did you have to lie? Why did you have to break our promises? Why... wasn’t I enough? ~ Atsumu

Won’t Stop ‘Til We’re Legends
Part One
Bucky x Daughter!Reader
Tumblr media
--
"And that is why we shouldn't trust Sam Wilson as our new Captain America" You rolled your eyes at the teacher's statement. Everyone had been saying that, the number of times that S.H.I.E.L.D had told the government that Sam was perfectly capable of having the mantle of Captain America was getting tiring to count. You raised your hand. "Yes, Y/N?"
"Your point's bullshit" You deadpan. "Your reason was invalid and I want to hear something other than shit come out of your mouth," You tell her. She stuttered as you stood up and walked to the front of the class. "Does anyone, want to give me a reason why Sam shouldn't be Captain America?" You ask them. Flash Thompson raised his hand and you pointed to him.
"Because he's a criminal, and he isn't as cool as Steve Rogers." He says.
"He's not a criminal-"
"You are. And yet the government still trusts you and your dad, who killed hundreds of people" Flash says. Your eyebrows raised and he smirked at you.
"Listen to me you pretentious, trust-fund asshole, I won't hesitate to shove my foot so far up your-"
"Okay, Miss Bevens, I'm gonna take Y/N outside for a minute," Peter says. He stood up from his chair and took you by the shoulders. You refused to meet Peter's eyes as he stood in front of you. "Y/N, are you okay?" He asks you.
"I'm fine, Peter." You tell him. He knew that you were lying to him, he always knew. "I'm going home, I'll see you tomorrow" You inform him.
"Wait, what about your dad? Isn't he gonna be mad at you?" Peter asks worriedly. You shook your head.
"He wants me to leave here anyway, I doubt he'll care" You turned your back and walked away from Peter. "Tell Flash to go fuck himself!"
--
You closed the door as quietly as you could, but luck was not in your favour today. As soon as you entered the apartment, he was standing against the doorframe, a look of disappointment on his face.
"Save the lecture, dad, I'm not particularly in the mood," You say. He sighed and walked towards you.
"I know you're not, they told me why," He says. You frowned and looked at the floor as if it was the most interesting thing in the world. "You wanna talk about it?" He asks you.
"It's not fair, dad. It's not fair for Sam, he's worked so hard for this and they're gonna take it away from him like that? And-And what about us? Whatever we did, it wasn't our fault, right? We didn't have a choice." Your tears were running down your face as you ranted to your dad. "Why are we always the bad guys?" You ask him. Bucky frowned and wrapped his arms around you.
"I know it's not fair, I know Y/N. But you're right, what happened to us all those years ago was not our fault. They can believe that we're lying, but S.H.I.E.L.D knows that we're not, and so does the rest of the team. Steve chose Sam because he knew that he could carry on the legacy of Cap better than anyone else. It's going to get better, Y/N, I promise" He says. You nodded and sniffled. "Go get changed, we're going over to Sams to see if he can perfect throwing the shield yet." He tells you. You laughed and shook your head.
"Should I take a change of clothes and my pyjamas?" You joke. Bucky rolled his eyes and fake laughed at you.
"No, you should be fine," He says. You walked into your room and got changed into the clothes that you would use for training. You grabbed your jacket and walked out into the hallway. "Ready?" He asks you. You nodded and followed him out into the car. "So, what do you want to do about school? You know my feelings about Midtown-" "I want to drop out," You tell him. "I know what you're going to say, but I want you to listen. I don't want to do anything...normal. I want to do this, I want to help people and try my best to fix everything-as much of the damage that I cause when I was at HYDRA that I can. Even if it's only helping Sam throwing his shield." You explain.
"Okay," He says.
"And I- Wait, Okay?!" You were confused, how and why was he so calm? You had envisioned him going off of the rails and giving you a huge lecture about how you weren't allowed to continue the life you were living and that you had to go off to university.
"Yeah, Okay." He confirms. He sighed as he pulled to a red light. "Look, after everything, there's not much chance of you finding a sense of normality, is there? I mean, come on, you've been to alien planets that you would have drawn up when you were three years old. So yeah, you can drop out" He says. You laughed in relief.
"A sense of normality would be nice, though. Something to keep me grounded, hey! You can be my normality!" You say. Bucky laughed as he started driving again.
"Okay, I have a proposition, I'll be yours, and you can be mine?" He suggests. You smiled and nodded.
"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea."
--
You watched as Sam threw the shield for what felt like the 400th time. You were lucky that you brought your earbuds, you could at least block out your dad and Sam's constant bickering. You looked at your phone for the 18th time that day, and even you felt like you had been there for hours, it had only been 25 minutes. You gave out an annoyed groan. Sam turned to Bucky.
"What's with her, shark week?" He asks. Bucky shook his head and sighed.
"She's...stressed, I think. Everything's finally catching up to her, the school said she would have knocked the shit out of some kid if it wasn't for Parker" Bucky tells him. "We've figured out what we're doing, but I'm still worried about her kicking off at the wrong person and getting them and or herself hurt" You pulled your earphones out and placed your elbows on your knees, putting your head in your hands.
"I can hear both of you," You inform them. The look on their faces was completely shocked. "You don't need to worry about me, worry about getting your throw right and then worry about if I'm gonna right hook someone's jaw" You point out. Bucky laughed and Sam looked over at you with a bitch face. You smirked back in response to him. You stood up from your position on the bench and walked over to where your dad and Sam were stood.
"Y/N!" You ducked as Sam threw the shield at the tree.
“Jesus Christ!” You yell. Your dad, Bucky laughed as Sam let out a huff and you were on the floor in a fetal position. “Warning, next time, Sam.” You stood up and walked towards your dad and Sam.
“I thought me yelling your name was enough of a warning” Sam jokes. “And plus, you’re so small that it would have gone over your head anyway.” Bucky looked at Sam as though he had just signed a contract for immediate death.
“Sam, I think you’re forgetting which one out of the two of us was an assassin for like 70 years,” You sass him. “Oh, and which one of us can do this” Without moving so much as a muscle, the shield flew away from the tree. Sam caught it and smirked.
“Remember which one of us is Captain America,” He says.
“Re-” “Okay, that’s enough from both of you,” Bucky says as he stands in between the both of you. “I don’t have the patience to take you” He pointed to Sam, “To the emergency room when Y/N snaps your arm out of place” Your face held an innocent smile.
“When and who did she do that to?” Sam asks. Bucky sighed and looked down, making Sam laugh. “You let your own daughter snap your own arm?” “Okay, first of all, it was his fault, I was on my period and we were sparring. He hit me the wrong may and next thing you know his arms kinda hanging off. But it was fine, it got fixed” You say. “And plus, he got me back for it a week later. Knocked the air out of my damn lungs” You murmur. Your phone rang and you excused yourself from whatever your dad and Sam were talking about. Your face scrunched at the caller ID, Nick Fury?
“Hello?” You answer.
“Y/N Barnes, I don’t think we’ve had the pleasure of chatting yet,” He says.
“Yeah, and I’d like to keep it that way for much longer,” You say. You went to hang up.
“Don’t hang up on me, Miss Barnes,” He warns you.
“Or what?” You never gave him time to answer before you hung up. You walked back over to your dad and Sam.
“Who was it?” Your dad asks.
“It-It was Peter. He was asking what he had to do for homework,” You say, you sounded like you were asking a question.
“For what subject?” Sam asks you.
“Chemistry” You didn’t take chemistry, so you regretted your answer.
“When did you choose that?” Bucky asks you. You shrugged your shoulders and your dad sighed. “Alright, let’s go home. We’ll see you later Sam” You and your dad waved goodbye to Sam and you walked in a separate direction, all three of you were unaware of the masked figure hidden within the trees. The rustle caught your attention, but not your fathers. You stopped in your tracks and looked around. "Y/N?" You ignored him as your eyes wandered to a black and purple-clad figure standing between the trees. "Hello? Earth to Y/N?" You snapped out of your trance and shook your head.
"What?" You were confused. "Oh, nothing, come on. I'm tired," You yawned. Bucky shook his head and walked in front of you. "I don't have a good feeling about this"

Well
Welp, feeling like doing an update because there's been a lot going on to be honest. its one of those weird dichotomies where every day feels like an eternity and there's so much going on and then you look back and you're like oh, ok its just my brain making it difficult and making things take forever but anyway.
LOCKDOOOOOOOWWWWWWNNNNNNN
Lockdown life was good, apart from being thrust into it so suddenly dave left a banana on his desk. Wasn't great to come back to after 5 weeks out of the office - mummified mouldy banana!! Classic. We luckily got our first jab before lockdown started so that was good, and we were reasonably well stocked up on food and were generally a lot healthier this lockdown that last. honestly, there's a level of chill and serenity in lockdown that i just love. the ability to set my own schedule and only work the hours I actually work to get the job done? Amazing. getting 8.5 hours of sleep each night without having to wake to an alarm blaring? AMAZING. getting to go for walks every afternoon? SO FLIPPING GOOD. I love it so much, I really really do. I need this to be my life permanently.
WORK
Work is just ongoing and draining and honestly, coming back to the office was so fucking stressful and it was only one day. Being at home is just the fucking bomb. Pending home decisions, I wanna go contracting I think, but also ideally two part time contracts to have more flexibility? I dunno. You'd think a big 4 would provide variety but it really doesn't and honestly, with Richie leaving, wellington is just a sinking ship. Sean's off on parental leave, Kirstyn is down to four days a week, ben will be gone if he doesn't get promoted (and I don't think he will be tbh). Jack is just muddling along, Nigel wants to swap to consulting as well, Matt's going to be a shit leader in terms of bringing in work so it's just not going to work. and in our wider group it's going to get even more messy with heaps of the analysts leaving and a couple of senior hires too. so I think it's probably time to jump ship in general, pending the home stuff below. Also, coming back after a break again, I'm like, I don't actually like a lot of you? All the people I enjoy here are in other teams and groups, and I'll be sad to leave you all, but like, not enough to stay anyway lol.
Pending the home below, two options are to just going and get a job with a $30k payrise to make up for the maternity leave benefits I'm gunna leave behind when I leave this role - 18 weeks full pay, $100 a week for the first year back and a full year of maternity leave. It's basically 30k post tax which is a bit nuts to walk away from to be honest.
Otherwise the other option is to go contracting. Less security overall but holy shit so much money. If I went in as a project coordinator at the lowest rate to build up a bit of a portfolio I'd need to work 40 weeks of 40 hr weeks and Id basically match my current salary plus the lost family leave benefits and still qualify for govt maternity leave payments. Realistically I could go in as a project manager for $140 an hour ($60 more an hour than the above math) and absolutely smash it at that level as well so ya know, there's a bunch of other info. I like the idea of the flexibility of it and only having 6 months even if its a shitshow and beign able to walk away at the end of it. I really don't want to get a govt job and this is a v govt town which is fine but also, if I can avoid it that would be great. I just know I'm not gunna thrive in that environment.
Need to talk to Dave to get him across the line on the security issue part of that though. I've mostly come a long way in terms of my financial management (thanks YNAB) so I think he'd be ok with it mostly.
So there's a lot to toss up there because......
HOME
We got the reno plans done during lockdown, finally. which was super good. but holy fkn jesus $$$$$$ ++++++++++. The guy is coming around for the final quote on Thursday. We indicatively said $100k total because we're doing kitchen laundry bathroom and toilet. so only the most expensive rooms and when I was talking to him last week he said 'that might cover it' and they're seeing cost escalations of 7-10% a week which is just insane. we're not doing anything structural apart from putting in a cavity slider in the bathroom, and the quote they'll give us won't include flooring since they won't do it.
Meanwhile, the prefab homes I were looking at for our site were $425k fully done. Like, I'm not going to spend $130K on doing up my 1940s ex state house ya know? That's not good cost benefit ratio.
So depending on what that comes out at on thursday we'll be able to make some plans.
We also want to start trying for kids next year and need these renos done first - I am not having kids and no dishwasher lol.
Also we need bank financing so good to be in a permanent stable job for that application. the good thing is we have so much equity we know we can borrow whatever we need, I just don't want to spend that much money on it because it's fkn ridiculous. and if I'm going on maternity leave we need to be able to cover it all on dave's salary and whatever benefits I have as well so there;s a lot of financial planning and spreadsheeting going on at the moment lol. it's fab.
either way. we've got plenty of options up our sleeve. we've got friends who's brother owns a building company so we can talk to them, we've got the garage so we can get things prefabricated even if they're not installed til next year, Dave can get shit at cost through his work for whiteware, there;s plenty of things to like cost control we can do, we just need to know where we're starting from basically. thats the challenging part. but we'll figure it out, its just taking longer than I want it to basically.
We also planted up the vege garden for the spring/summer which was lovely, super jazzed about that. we've finally got the garden to a reasonably low maintenance level where everything is mostly under control and it's such a relief, honestly.
PERSONAL
Man what a shift to lockdown last year honestly. I think the last 8 weeks in particular has just been like, a massive reality check of how absolutely shit the last year was and how fucking glad I am to be rid of it. I spent a week absolutely spiralling 2 weeks ago now and honestly, I don't know how I lived in the state for more than a year. I actually don't know how I did it. and I could not be more glad that I'm finally on the other side of it, for the most part. There's still a bunch of other stuff to work through (hahahahahaha when is there not like damn) but fucking hell its nice to just not be anxious and nauseous and wound up constantly. life is actually accessible. miracle.
My workmate had his bebe - I went round and got newborn cuddles and was like, oh, is this what it is to be clucky? this is odd. so there's that as well. I think we'll probably start trying next year pending renos and jobs etc. If the renos can be done in jan I'll prob just stick it at the job to get the benefits but I dunno. it's a tough call to make really. we shall see. This all assumes we get knocked up without any issues which is questionable these days. I really want to feel healthier before getting pregnant as well, and part of that is losing weight. however, given discussing that is what triggered the spiral we're working on that one slowly.
Also, lets have a moment for counselling, because fkn bless anne and all her hard work honestly. I actually ended up emailing her being like, I;m losing my shit on the monday and then talked to her on thursday. And its so funny because it's such a counselling thing but I didn't realise until afterwards what she'd done but she was like you're clearly not doing well and then the night before dave got a fkn miserable migraine and he was up for like, 2 hrs powerchucking except he didn't make it to the bathroom in time so guess who was cleaning up vomit at 130am trying not to chuck herself but I digress. anyway, not doing well, couldn't even explain why, didn't even have words and super tired and she's like, what lynaire up to this week how's she going with izzy and chat about that and then be like how are you feeling about your body and then 5 more mins of chat about the cat and the chickens and then like bam hard question and then hows it going with x and y and z and its like, it wasn't til I was on my walk afterwards when I FINALLY started feeling marginally better I was like damn woman work your magic for figuring it out for me and helping me reregulate. all over the phone as well since we were still in lockdown. GREAT WORK FRIEND.
and then last week was like totally fucked theoretical discussion about religion and the role it's played in my life and fate vs free will and all this nutty shit but genuinely just a great discussion. She's the best and I love her. thank good for good counsellors. thank god I can afford to pay for it honestly.
Dave and I are just chugging along, god bless that man. I love him. its amazing. I miss having friends close by but understand why they had to move (boooooo f u house prices). Family is pretty chill, still not really talking to dave's parents which is nightmarish but we'll deal with that when we need to. gunna have to go and visit them at some point coz dave misses them and I feel for him, I really do. It's the whole boundaries renegotiation I went through with my family last year post wedding blow up and its just not a fun place to be. oh well. can't fix it for him but also I'm not putting up with that level of BS from either of our families once we have children. not gunna happen.
Either way, life is busy and full and fun and I'm enjoying it. Daylight savings starts this weekend too, its october next week WTF and I'm just waiting for 4pm to find out what's gunna happen to our girls trip. Clearly we cancelled our sept trip to christchurch and akaroa and hanmer springs so my covid travel curse continues. fkn ridic. Still dunno what we're gunna do with $2500 of flight credits coz if we get knocked up theres def no international trips happening any time soon.
thus concludes the almost 2000 word write up of life. hope you've enjoyed it. I'll throw up some pics in a separate post if people care about reno plans. such a good time!

Home - Part 21
Tumblr media
A/N- Thank you to everyone who’s still reading! I think there’s gonna be one more part and an epilogue then this will be done :) 💕
32 weeks Pregnant
"Im so over being pregnant now Wanda you have no idea!" I moaned as we sat in the newly decorated nursery folding the baby clothes id washed through. The extension was finished and Bucky, Steve and Sam had done a great job of doing the twins nursery.
Tumblr media
Wanda had been amazing helping me with the girls, i was always so tired nowadays.
"I bet, it looks uncomfortable now. Im glad I'm only having the one!" She laughed holding a hand against her own tiny bump, she and Sam had found out she was pregnant 4 months ago.
"I told Bucky id be the size of a house with these boys! You've seen the size of him so its no surprise is it!" I laughed shaking my head as i rubbed the side of my stomach.
"You okay?" Wanda asked looking concerned.
"Yeah think I've got a foot digging in somewhere.... their running out of room in here now"
"Not long now hun"
"Im counting down the weeks, this whole pregnancy has flown by up until now! Now its taking forever"
"You getting nervous?"
"A little bit, but mostly i just want them here already"
"When is Bucky due back from his trip?"
"Later tonight, it was meant to be tomorrow but he won the case, it all got settled a lot earlier than he thought it would, his driving back tonight"
"Do you want me stay over until he gets home?"
"Its fine Wand his already arranged for Steve to stay when he gets back with the girls and stay until his home"
"Thats okay then, i just didn't want you being on your own"
"Im never on my own lately" i shook my head and laughed.
"Their very protective" she agreed, they had been terrible lately! One of them was always with me incase anything happened. The only reason they weren't here now was because Wanda was here!
"I know they mean well but they are driving me crazy! Every time i go to get up their there! I cant even go to the bathroom without questions"
"That would drive me crazy too! I'll kick Sam's ass if he does that!".
We spent another 30 minutes or so sorting the clothes and other bits before heading downstairs for some tea. Not long after that Steve got back with the girls, he had taken them to the zoo for the day and they all looked exhausted... Steve included!
"Hey you guys, have you had a nice day?" I asked as Allie and Brooke came straight over and cuddled up to me.
"Yeah it was soooo good" Allie smiled up at me before stroking my huge bump.
"Hi baby brothers! I missed you"
"I just felt a kick" Brooke laughed holding a hand to the side of my tummy where i had been feeling it before.
"Looks like they missed their big sisters huh?" I smiled at them both.
"Im gonna head home now Steve's back to keep you company. Call me if you need anything" Wanda said hugging me goodbye before saying goodbye to Steve and the girls and heading off.
It didn't take long for me to fall asleep once Wanda had left. Steve ordered some pizza's for the girls dinner because he didn't want to wake me up, when i finally did wake up the pains in my side were back with a vengeance!
"You okay sweetheart?" Steve asked looking worried.
"Yeah just getting uncomfortable.... would you be okay keeping an eye on the girls while i go take a bath, see if it eases off a bit. They might move a bit so its not so bad"
"Yeah sure"
"thanks Steve" i gave him a smile and went up to the bathroom.
Tumblr media
STEVE'S POV
I was sitting in the living room watching The Lion King with the girls when i heard Y/N calling for me.
"Steve...?....STEVE!!"
"What??" I called back rushing upstairs to the bathroom "What is it??!" I asked from the other side of the door.
"Erm...I think the babies are coming!" She called back sounding like she was freaking out.
"Oh shit..... have your waters broke?!"
"How do i know im in the tub!! All i know is it hurts like a bitch!"
"Okay. Okay.... let me call Sam and Wanda to come look after the girls and i'll take you to the hospital"
"Call Bucky!! If this is it i want him there!"
"Okay im calling him now" i told her pulling out my cell and dialling Bucky.
"Steve...." she said quietly from inside the bathroom.
"Yeah sweetheart?"
"Im gonna need you to help me out of the tub..... i can't do it on my own"
Oh shit!
"Hey Steve, everything okay?" Bucky answered after the second ring.
"No Buck! No! Everything is not okay! I think Y/N's having the babies and now i have to go help her out of the tub!"
"What?? But its too early! This isn't supposed to be happening yet!!" Bucky said loudly "I'm still a couple hours out.... erm can you get her to the hospital and i'll meet you there?.... call Becca to come watch the kids...."
"Im gonna call Sam and Wanda their closer, Wanda said to call if we needed anything"
"Okay that works"
"Buck, what about the fact i gotta get your girl outta the tub??"
"Steve!! Will you hurry up for fuck sake!" Y/N yelled through the door.
"Just do it pal, you gotta help her for me"
"Okay, I'm gonna put you on speaker...."
As i opened the bathroom door i stuck my head in slowly and let out a sigh of relief when i saw she had pulled her towel over her to hide her nakedness.
"Did you reach Buck?"
"Im here baby" Bucky said as i put the phone down on the counter and went to help her up from the tub.
"Bucky..... how long are you gonna be?"
"Couple hours tops....i'll be there i promise! But i need you to go with Steve. His gonna stay with you until i get there"
"Okay".
Once i helped Y/N out of the tub i wrapped a dry towel around her and helped her into the bedroom so she could get dressed.
"Im gonna call Sam while you get dressed, i'll be just outside if you need me" i told her with a reassuring smile.
Tumblr media
Reader POV
I was still getting dressed when i heard the knocking at the front door.
"Uncle Steve, Uncle Sam and Auntie Wanda are at the door!" Brooke called up the stairs.
"Okay sweetheart, can you let them in please?"
"Okay"
"Steve, you can come in I'm dressed" i called to him, he came in and grabbed my bag i had packed for the hospital and then wrapped an arm around me to help me downstairs.
"You okay?" Wanda asked as soon as she saw me.
"Honestly i have no idea" i shook my head and laughed nervously "thanks for coming"
"No worries darlin'.... i blue lighted it here!" Sam laughed, that would explain how they got here so quick.
"Okay lets get you to the hospital.... i dont want to have to deliver these babies" Steve joked before leading me out to the car.
When we arrived at the hospital they took us straight through to a delivery room and made me change into a hospital gown (which Steve had to help with!) And then hooked me up to various machines to monitor mine and the babies heart beats. Id been here for over an hour now and the contractions were getting so much worse, i was already tired and i hadn't even gotten to the bad bit yet.... I'm pretty sure Steve hates me for squeezing his hand so tight every time a contraction hits, but he smiles through gritted teeth and tries to keep me calm.
"I want Bucky.... why is it taking so long?" I moaned after getting through a rather bad contraction.
"He'll be here soon sweetheart" Steve smiled brushing my sweaty hair back from my face.
"Thank you for staying with me Steve, I'm not sure how id be coping on my own" i told him truthfully "owww! Shit my back is cramping...."
"You can turn her onto her side and rub her back dad" a nurse that i hadn’t even noticed til now said to Steve as she checked the monitors.
"Oh... oh I'm not dad, I'm dad's best friend. His on his way"
"Oh sorry i just assumed. You can still help her out though" she shrugged.
"Sure, i can do that"
"Its fine you don't have to....." i started to say not wanting to make him uncomfortable.
"I got you, come on lets get you on your side" he smiled helping me roll onto my side so he could massage the cramp from my back.
"Oh my god Steve! You've got magic hands i swear!" I moaned as the pressure started to ease.
"Don't let Buck hear you moaning my name like that sweetheart he might kick my ass" he chuckled trying to make me laugh.
"Too late punk" came the voice of the man i was waiting for.
"Bucky! Your here!" I cried as he walked over and kissed me.
"I told you i would be didn't i?"
"I was just trying to help" Steve said quickly holding his hands up.
"I know, thanks Steve. Thanks for looking out for my girl" they exchanged a manly hug before Bucky took his place rubbing my back.
"Anytime, girls got a grip on her just a heads up. I think she broke my hand"  we all started laughing at that but the room fell silent when the alarm on one of the monitors started going off.
"What is that.....whats going on?!" I said panicking as the nurse came back in followed closely by the Doctor. The Doctor stood at the machine looking at a print out before turning to face us.
"Lay her on her back please.... at last one of the babies is in distress" the doctor said. Bucky helped me turn onto my back again and the Doctor started pushing around at my stomach.
"Ow!!!" I cried out in discomfort squeezing Bucky's hand.
"What are you doing!?" Bucky snapped at him looking like he was ready to murder the doctor.
"Im trying to turn the babies a bit, i think one of them may have the cord trapped...." he said as he continued trying to manipulate the babies positioning. Suddenly the alarm stopped beeping and he stepped back to the machine.
"Y/N, i think we're going to have to perform a c-section. The babies are in distress and your not dilated enough yet to do this naturally. Usually we'd give you some medication to help you along but i really don't want to leave them much longer. The quicker we can get them out the better"
"Okay.... whatever you think is best Doc. I just want my babies to be safe"
"Nurse go tell them to prep the OR"
"Yes Doctor" she said quickly before rushing out.
"Lets go have these babies shall we?"
I nodded at the Doctor and turned to look at Bucky "Buck im scared"
"You'll be fine baby, i'll be right there. You've got this" he smiled kissing me quickly.
"I'll wait in the waiting room, good luck sweetheart" Steve beamed down at me pressing a kiss to my head before hugging Bucky. The nurse came back with a porter who pulled my bed out and started wheeling me down towards the OR, Bucky walking along side me holding my hand as we got ready to meet our newest additions.

Your lips curled into a grimace as you pressed the cigarette to your lips. God, these things are fucking disgusting. How the fuck do the Gallagher’s do this shit? You thought to yourself as you spat onto the grass, trying to clean out the flavor. You weren’t completely sure why you smoked. After all, you hated cigarettes. They made your mouth taste bad and they made you feel shitty. But, of course, that wasn’t true; you knew why you smoked them. Cuz Lip does. That was your reasoning for almost every bad habit you had. Everything you did revolved around that big-nosed son of a bitch. He hadn’t spoken to you in months and yet he was still there.
Your depressing thoughts were interrupted by a familiar sound; sirens. The blue and red lights flashed across your fave as an ambulance drove past you. Someone was hurt, badly. You liked sirens. They felt familiar. Comforting. In a dark way, they reminded you that things could be worse; you could be in an ambulance right now, crying and bleeding and in pain instead of in front of the grocery store that Ian worked at, smoking and freezing your ass off. Of course, you being there was your fault. You need alcohol and you needed it bad. You could have chosen to stay in your warm house and steal beer from your father, but then you would have risked being beaten had you been caught. You’d stick with the fake ID approach, thank you.
After another puff, you decided to stop stalling-the cigarette smoke was getting to you. You dropped the cigarette, crushed it under your shoe, and jogged across the street to Kash’s store. When you walked in, Ian’s voice called to you from behind the chip rack-“(Y/n)! Hey!” A smile spread over your face as he walked towards you. “Hey, Ian.” Ian was the only Gallagher who you still talked to after Lip stopped hanging out with you. Most likely because you were one of the only people who knew he was gay and who treated him like normal regardless. Of course, you’d found out his secret long before anyone else had, even Lip.
You and Ian had been friends longer than you and Lip had, and you had been Ian’s first girlfriend when he was in 6th and you were in 7th. You held hands and shared cookies and watched movies at his house while his mom and dad screamed at each other and then watched them as they went upstairs to have sex. A year later, when he was in 7th and you were in 8th, while in your secret spot(the swings behind your house), you asked him why he didn’t want to kiss you like the other boys kissed their girlfriends.
After a silent moment, Ian had admitted that he had thought about kissing another boy in your class, and not you. That he couldn’t imagine kissing a girl. And, after stunned silence, you had hugged him and stroked his hair while he cried and begged you not to tell anyone. After that, you and Ian broke up, pretending it was due to lame couple shit when in reality you didn’t want people asking why you and him didn’t kiss or fuck or do anything everyone else did. He was still your closest friend.
“So, what the hell are you doing here? It’s late. You usually pass out by 8.” You rolled your eyes playfully. “None of your business, dweeb.” You ruffled his hair and walked over to the beer aisle, scanning the various bottles on the shelves, looking for a 12 pack of the strongest beer available. “Um, okay? Since when do you drink?” Ian followed you over and crossed his arms. “Since I decided that sprite just wasn’t cutting it. What’s the strongest kind you got?” Ian stared at you for a moment, seeming to notice that something wasn’t right with you, but eventually averted his eyes and pointed to a particular beer. “That one.”
You grinned at him. “Thanks, babes.” You plucked the box of beer from the aisle and store over to the register. “Where’s Kash at, anyhow? Did you give him bad dick or something?” Ian grimaced. “Linda’s fertile right now.” “Ah. Say no more.” You nodded empathetically and let the ginger boy ring up your box before sliding him a $50. He spoke as he kept his eyes on the register. “Me and Mickey are still going on.” You raised a brow. “Ooo. Interesting. I should go for Mandy so we match.” He laughed and started to hand you the remaining money. “Keep the change, hun. Fiona and you guys probably needs it more than me, aye?”
He smiled half-heartedly. “That’s for sure. So, whats the beer for?” You blinked. “Uh, to drink?” He rolled his eyes. “You know what i mean.” “Nothing, Ian. Just need a stress reliever. That’s all.” “If you say so. Just, please, don’t pull a Frank on me. I know Lip’s being an ass but I can’t lose you. Who else will supply me with gay porn mags?” You grinned at him. “Aw. Glad I’m needed. And don’t ever compare me to that bastard. I love you, Ian. Give Lip a throat punch for me.” He smiled. “Sure thing. I love you too. Come by the house sometime and I’ll tell you about Mickey a little more, yeah? Lip will probably be out screwing Karen.” You nodded. “I will. Night, Ian.” And with that, you waved goodbye and started on your way home.
The next day, you woke up to someone pounding on your front door. Groaning, you started to sit up and then grabbed your head in pain as a glass bottle rolled off the bed and smashed on the floor. Shit. How much had you had to drink last night? You checked the floor. 7 bottles. Out of 12. Holy. Fucking. Shit. The pounding on the door resumed, and your head started pounding with it. You winced, swallowed down some Tylenol, and went for the door. “I’m coming, I’m coming. Hold your fucking horses, god damn it.” You swung the door open. “Hey, (Y/n). Been a while.”
You blinked. “What the hell are you doing here, Lip? Where’s that blonde bitch at? Screwing one of your friends or something?” “Karen’s not hanging out with me til later.” “Ah.” The two of you stared at each other in silence. “So, what the fuck do you want then?” Lip shuffled awkwardly for a second and then shoved his hands in his pockets. “Ian said you bought some beer yesterday.” You glared. “That little shit. Why the fuck would he tell you that?” “I asked him where he got the $40 from. He didn’t want to tell me but I forced it out. What was the beer for? Your dad? He doesn’t need anymore of that shit you know, he’s turning out like Frank-“ “Don’t ever compare my Dad to yours. Ever. Your dads a lazy drunk-ass fuck who couldn’t give a shit less about his kids. Mine just likes to beat me the shit outta me sometimes. It’s different. Don’t lecture me.”
Now Lip looked suspicious. “Then what was it for?” “Why do you care?” “Cuz I know you. Last time you drank beer, you overdid it and almost got fucking alcohol poisoning. You can’t handle beer.” “Yes I can. Don’t tell me what to do. And actually, I drank like 7 last night. Cuz I’m not your child. And I can do whatever the hell I want. Stop acting like a fucking Dad, you drink too.” “But I don’t over drink. I’m not like Frank. You are. You can’t handle it. Just because you’re jealous about Karen doesn’t mean you should cope with alcohol-“ “Oh my god, shut the fuck up, you narcissistic asshole! Shut up! I’m not fucking jealous of your whore! I’ll drink if I want and fuck if I want and smoke if I want and I don’t need your permission! You made your choice. You picked Karen. Leave, now! I’m coming by later to hang with Ian, so you and the whore better not be there. You’re lucky my dad left for work or he’d have kicked your ass for knocking so loud. Fuck you. Have a nice day.” And you shut the door in his face before he could reply.
Your face was now red from anger. Your hands shaking, you went upstairs, threw up in the bathroom, took some more Tylenol and then curled up on your bed, staring at the ceiling. Fuck him. God, he was so condescending. That was the first time he’d talked to you in a couple of months and it was to scold you like a child for drinking. He drank too. He did all of this shit too. He had done that shit with you so many times you couldn’t even count. What was his problem? Your lip quivered as you felt tears forming. You thought about how close the two of you used to be.
Swinging together behind your house, sneaking into each other’s rooms to cuddle and talk about your shitty lives, watching the stars and whispering to each other, sneaking into movies, shoplifting candy bars and fizzy drinks to eat as you sat in his car to watch the sunrise or the sunset. He was your best friend and your first love and your rock and he was everything. All you had besides Ian, except Ian didn’t kiss you or hold your hand like Lip did. Lip was a boyfriend without the commitment, a lover without the title. And you adored him. It had been this way for 2 years, since you were 14 and he was 15. And then, 3 months ago, just a month before he abandoned you, it all came to a peak. The most amazing moment of your life.
The two of you had snuck out at 3 in the morning on a warm, starry night, each armed with snacks and a flashlight, along with blankets and pillows. You met underneath the train tracks, and laid out the pillows and blankets into a small makeshift bed. Lip pulled you down onto the pallet, hugging you close and pulled the blanket over you, and you laid in his arms and watched the trains go by. During a quiet moment, he whispered that you were beautiful, and kissed you, and, after a few moments, you let him make love to you right there under the tracks as trains went by. He took your virginity and then held you as you fell asleep, stroking your hair and whispering to you as you dozed.
You started crying. It had been only 3 months ago. 3 months. And now things were so different. That had been the only time you had sex, but it was still fresh in your mind. You had been so sure that he would ask you out afterwards, but he never did. And it had stung a little. But you put up with it because you liked him. And then, a month later, he met Karen. He bragged to you about the hummer she gave him, and then had Ian go to get one too, even though Ian was gay. He started dropping plans to hang with Karen, and talked about how great of a fuck she was when he did make time for you, and eventually stopped coming to hang all together. And it hurt so fucking bad. Why weren’t you good enough? You lay on your bed, curled up in the fetal position, and cried. Just laid there and sobbed until your eyes were tired and your throat was sore.
You passed out for about 2 hours, woke up. showered off, changed clothes and went to go meet with Ian. Fiona opened the door, hugged you, and asked how you had been. After you caught up for a minute, you asked where Ian was and went up to his room. Sure enough, he was sprawled out on his bed with a magazine in his hand, which he tossed aside when he saw you. “H-hey. Listen, sorry I told Lip but he kept asking where I got the money and I’m not a great lier and-“ “it’s okay, dude, chill! All he did was try to lecture me anyway. Who does that little bitch think he is, telling me what to do? Screw him.” Ian grimaced. “He’s just worried. You used to have to be convinced to even take a sip of something and now you’re out buying 12-packs for yourself. He just doesn’t want you to turn out like-“ “Like Frank. I know, I know. But it’s none of his concern. He left me. He should focus on his bimbo and leave me alone.”
The conversation ended. You sat with Ian and ate cookies as he talked about Mickey and how he was going to Mandy’s to see him more often. Mandy had no qualms with kissing a gay man, so her and Ian were fake dating to have a beard for Ian. You made a sexual joke about taking it up the ass, and Ian laughed and shoved your arm. After a minute of silence when the laughter died down, Ian spoke up. “He misses you, you know.” “Mickey?” “No. Lip. He mentioned you a couple days ago.” Your heart dropped. “What’d he say?” “He said he took Karen to the train tracks like him and you used to do, and it wasn’t as fun. Just said he missed you. Oh, and yesterday Fiona said she missed your pot roast you used to make us on Friday’s and Lip said he did too, so that counts I guess.”
You rolled your eyes. “I’ll make you guys pot roast still. Just won’t eat with you guys.” Ian rolled over into his back and then sat up. “(Y/n). You and Lip need to sort this shit out. I miss you. Everyone misses you. He’s a dickhead and I know that and everyone else knows it. But you need to call him out for it. Make him apologize. Debbie and Carl and Fiona and I miss you a lot. And I’m sure Lip does too even if he acts like he doesn’t think about you. You were different than Karen. You were his best friend. Karen’s just a fuck buddy who he hangs out with sometimes. I’m not saying you should try to go out with him, you could fuck any guy you want really. But just talk it out. Please?”
You stared at the ground for a long minute. You thought it over. As bitter as you were, Ian was right. And you missed being with the Gallagher family. After a moment, you sighed, and relented. “Okay. I’ll confront him. But only for you and Fiona and them. Okay? Now shut up about it.” Ian half smiled and slung an arm around your shoulder. “Thank you. Good luck, yeah? He’ll be home in a few minutes, confront him then.” You agreed, and then the two of you listened to a CD as you waited for Lip to get home.
When the bedroom door swung open, you didn’t dare look. But you didn’t have to anyway. “(Y/n)?” You didn’t look up. Ian looked from you to Lip awkwardly and got up. “I have to go...Uh...do homework. Yeah.” He left the room, and neither you nor Lip moved. “What are you doing here?” You couldn’t answer. You just looked at the ground. “(Y/n), look. I get that you’re upset at me. But you need to let it go. You and I never dated. You’re being jealous over nothing. I’ll try to hang out with you more but you and I were just friends and I don’t know why you thought it was more than that.” Your head snapped up. “What the fuck did you just say?” Lip, sensing he had said the wrong thing, went silent. You slowly stood up.
“You don’t know why I thought it was more than that? Are you fucking serious? Do you actually not get it? Are you that fucking stupid?” Lip said nothing, and you stepped closer, voice rising. “I thought we were more because you acted like we were! You held my fucking hand and kissed me and told me I was beautiful and literally put your fucking dick inside me under the train you took that Karen bitch to! You took my fucking virginity! Of course I thought we were more! I was always there for you! Always! I listened to every single problem and massaged your shoulders when they tensed up and snuck around with you and risked being beaten for you! I was a part of this family! I helped out Fiona and played with Debbie and Carl and punched Frank when he hurt Ian and i loved your family so much and I was always there! And then you tossed me aside like I was a piece of garbage the second that Karen blew you!”
Lip looked remorseful. “(Y/n), I-“ “No! Shut up! It’s my turn to speak. I’m glad I didn’t try to ask what we were a few months ago, cuz I know exactly what you would have said.” Your voice took on a mocking tone as you continued. “You would have said that you liked me, really you did, but you just weren’t ready for a big experience like commitment! And you’d apologize condescendingly for leading me on like that. But you still would be down to fuck because of course you would! Cuz you’re Lip fucking Gallagher and you screw whoever you want, right? That’s all you’re in it for, right? Fuck you! Fuck you so fucking much! You lead me on and then kicked me aside for someone who’d be more open to fuck whenever you wanted, right? Screw you!”
Lip went to speak, but you had one more thing to say. “And by the way, Lip, I’m not letting your dickhead-ness stop me from hanging out with your family. I miss Ian and Fiona and Debbie and Carl. So I’ll still be here. For dinners and babysitting and for Ian. But you won’t be talking to me. Or sitting with me. Or even looking at me. You will leave me alone and let me be at peace without trying to toy with me again. I’m sick and tired of your shit. Be with your whore and leave me alone.” You turned to leave. “(Y/n).” You turned back to look at him. “Yeah?” “I’m sorry.” That was all he said. And it was all he needed to say. His eyes said it all. You nodded. “I know. Goodbye, Lip.” And with that, you turned and walked out of the room, and didn’t look back.

i will bend every light in this city (and make sure they’re shining on you)
Summary: LDR Malec p much Read on my AO3 or under the cut!
Don't you know that I spend all my nights Counting backwards the days 'til I'm home? -A Great Big World, "Already Home"
The light filters in through the bedroom window, lighting up the dust mites floating through the air and landing on the bed sheets. Alec grunts, rolling over and smushing his face into his pillow. He just needs five more minutes and then maybe he’ll be able to survive the day. Just five more.
His phone rings.
“Crazy in Love” starts playing, and he can’t help but smile as he fumbles around on the bed next to him to find his phone. He swipes it to talk without even looking at the caller ID. “Hey, babe.” His voice is thick with sleep, but he can’t be mad at the early phone call.
Magnus’s laugh rings through, a bit tinny and distant, but as lovely as ever. “Did I wake you?”
“No.” Magnus laughs again, and Alec’s smile grows as he rolls onto his back, flinging his free hand over his face to block out the sun. “Okay. Maybe.”
“Day off today?”
“Of course not. You?”
Magnus sighs. “No,” he says. “I just met with my advisor and I have an appointment with one of my professors this afternoon, plus two classes tonight.” The frown in his voice makes Alec’s heart ache.
“I’m sorry,” Alec says as he sits up. He stretches, popping his back, and swings his legs off the bed. “I wish I could…” He trails off. It’s not worth saying; Magnus knows and it hurts his chest every time the words leave his mouth.
“Me too, Alexander.”
*
It’s been four months since Alec and Magnus have been in the same room, or even the same state. Four months since winter break -- since they’d gone ice skating at Bryant Park and made hot chocolate in Magnus’s apartment. Since they’d exchanged gifts and kisses and cuddled on the couch for hours.
They knew the likelihood of this happening, of the perils of long-distance challenging them, was high when they realized in their junior year of college and their second year of dating that they both wanted to pursue graduate school. But even they couldn’t have guessed how hard it would actually be.
Columbia has one of the top history preservation graduate programs in the country, and it’s in their home city, so Magnus remains in New York, riding the subway from his shared apartment to class to work and back again. Alec finds himself in Berkeley, California, studying to get his masters in Economics. He loves the weather, being able to study on the beach, and having DisneyLand so close by. He hates being 2,500 miles from the love of his life.
Alec’s mind often wanders back to the first time he and Magnus said goodbye, nearly two years ago now, before he boarded the plane. He thinks about how Magnus had clutched his hand tightly, how he had used the lapels of Magnus’s shirt to tug him in for a kiss, how they had embraced for far longer than normal.
Alec’s mind often wanders to Magnus.
*
It’s a stupid fight.
Alec forgets to text Magnus on a Tuesday afternoon before heading onto campus to spend the day with classmates studying for a final exam. Magnus forgets that Alec has an exam coming up.
Tuesday night is date night, for them. The only night of the week that each of them is consistently free from internships, class, the burden of papers and projects. They usually video chat over dinner, screenshare a movie, spend the night staring into each other’s faces as well as they can so far apart.
But this Tuesday night, Alec doesn’t answer his phone.
*
“Magnus, I told you I have an exam--”
“I forgot, okay? But even so you never said that you were going to be out all day.” “I was at the library!” Alec tosses his free hand in the air, the other holding his phone to his ear. He hates, hates , arguing with Magnus like this. It’s different when they’re bickering and bantering over the best episode of Doom Patrol or teasing each other for snoring or falling asleep on FaceTime, but actually arguing and hearing the anger and disappointment in Magnus’s voice hurts. And it’s also a bit frustrating. “I’m sorry, okay? I’m sorry that I forgot to text you and let you know.” He exhales. “I am.”
Magnus huffs on the other end of the line. Alec can just imagine him pinching his nose between his fingers, his rings sparkling on his polished fingers. God, he misses him. “I’m sorry, too. I know I can get angry, quickly. I just miss you.” His voice is soft, and Alec almost misses the last four words.
“I miss you, too.”
At that, Magnus sighs. His voice is uneven when he says, “You’re going to ace that final, you know?” He sniffles a bit, and Alec hears a shuffle, a nose blow.
He smiles sadly.
They keep talking, now that Magnus has forgiven Alec, and Alec has forgiven Magnus, each of them finding each other as well as themselves at fault for a lack of communication. Magnus sounds exhausted -- he’s had a lot of late nights and early mornings lately, he says, trying to get everything he needs to done before his exams and before Alec’s graduation. He wants to finish it all so he can take some time off his internship when Alec flies back to the city.
“When’s the last time you slept for more than 4 hours, Mags?” Alec asks, taking off his glasses and leaning back on the sofa, legs splayed in front of him.
His boyfriend lets out a noncommittal noise.
“Magnus . ”
“Probably like three weeks ago,” Magnus says quickly, the words practically tripping over themselves.
“ Magnus .”
He snorts, but it’s without humor. “I’ve been trying! I just, you know, am busy.” He pauses, and Alec can hear the kettle whistling through the phone. “And I don’t… I don’t sleep as well without you.”
And that, that Alec understands.
*
Alec grits his teeth as the plane touches down. He’s always hated the feeling of landing; take-off is unpleasant but he much prefers it. He isn’t unhappy for long though, once he looks out the window and sees LaGuardia.
His exams are finished. He’s all but graduated, and it turns out you don’t actually have to walk in a graduation ceremony to get the degree.
Now, he’s almost where he belongs.
*
When Magnus calls “Hang on ,” Alec bites back a grin and knocks on the door again. He can hear Magnus approaching quickly from the other side. “Oh for fuck’s sake, I sa-”
And his words are cut off by a gasp as he throws himself at Alec.
“Alexander!” Magnus’s voice is both loud and quiet at the same time; he’s speaking softly but Alec can hear the intensity and emotions in his words. They wrap their arms around each other. Magnus buries his head into Alec’s neck, breathing deeply, unevenly. His voice shakes when he says, “What are you doing here? I wasn’t expecting to see you for two more weeks.”
Alec smiles into Magnus’s hair, soaking in his sandalwood shampoo, and tightens his grip on his boyfriend.

"won't you just let me hold you" with you and kara... much love, reigenquest
GRRR UASGASIOFFOASOIGSAFSI jason ur gonna pay for this
edit: the line from the prompt takes a LONG TIME to get in there bear with me i have brainrot
It’s been about seven short months since I met them. How often does anyone meet a set of six brothers, let alone sextuplets? One in particular always stood out to me. The bizarrely shaped shades, the essentially greaser-like leather jacket, the absolute nerve and guts to flirt with people even when you know nobody likes you. Maybe I’m going off a little bit, but my point stands.
I won’t drop the L word yet but god do I like Kara. It’s predictable, I know, my thing for hopeless flirts, emotional people with emotional secrets they have yet to reveal to their soulmate since they haven’t found them yet, all that jazz.
Anyway, after MONTHS of being pestered by my friends, I’m asking The Question tonight. It took weeks to figure out how I wanted to go about it, and in the end I decided to go out of my comfort zone and do something more extravagant. I’m gonna dress up nice and sing outside the goddamn window, because fuck you, Romeo and Juliet is a good story, aside from the ending. It somehow took even LONGER to pick a song to sing, I wanted to pick a song I both knew all the lyrics to and one that also fit my voice range well enough that I’d sound less like a dying cat when singing.
I was torn on what to wear, unsure if I should dress masculine or feminine. So, I compromised with myself. I tucked my ponytail into a beanie, only leaving my thin bangs visible. I put on a knee length pencil skirt that had thin white stripes on black, and my knee-high black boots underneath. On my torso, I wore a mostly plain t-shirt with a skull on the chest pocket and my favorite black jean jacket over it. Yeah, it’s still winter, but the fit. I put on various kinds of jewelry including one of my many pendants around my neck. I begin my walk to the Matsuno House, with only my purse on me. In my purse is my fully charged cell phone, with a karaoke version of Hesitate by The Jonas Brothers on youtube. Don’t judge me, this song make’s me cry without fail.
After talking to myself for several minutes, I can see the house in the distance. Their mother and father are out tonight, so I luckily don’t have to worry about THAT embarrassment. I pull out my phone to text the youngest brother, Todomatsu (as he is the only one who actually has a phone of his own).
[txt.tyz]: hey, is he still up?
I stare at my screen waiting for an answer. I didn’t want to tell any of the others about this, but in order to plan everything well, I had to inform Totty of this plan. Not that I mind, though, he would’ve figured it out anyway, he’s just that clever.
[txt.td]: yup, the only 1′s up are him, me n choromatsu-niisan somehow. i doubt u will wake them up too since the song ur singing is on the quiet side
[txt.tyz] ahhhh ty totty ;-; im almost there
[txt,td] ;3 id wish u good luck but u rly dont need it
-totty is offline-
BITCH? What does THAT mean? Asshole.
By now I’ve reached the house. I stand outside, looking up at the window, where I see Todo peeking out the window. He gives me a thumbs up and he leaves my field of vision. I feel goosebumps show up on my skin when Kara opens the window and stands on the roof, closing the window behind him.
“W-what’re you doing here so late?” He says, and I blush. I’m not good at being smooth.
“i-uh-well i-just listen.” I manage to spit out while taking my phone out, pressing play, and setting it down on the mailbox.
“Kiss the tears right off your faceWon’t get scared, that’s the old, old, old meI’ll be there time and placeLay it on me, all you’re hold, hold, holdingTime, time only heals if we work through it nowAnd I promise we’ll figure this out”
I can’t even keep eye contact with him while I sing, out of pure embarrassment. I can’t believe I’m even doing this. I can’t believe I let my friends talk me to into SINGING to him.
“I will take your painAnd put it on my heartI won’t hesitateJust tell me where to startI thank the oceans for giving me youYou saved me once and now I’ll save you tooI won’t hesitate for you”
I haven’t noticed it because I refuse to look directly at him while singing, but Todo and Choro are both peeking through the window, watching it all go down.
“Pull me close and I’ll hold you tightDon’t be scared ‘cause I’m on your sideKnow there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for youPull me close and I’ll hold you tightDon’t be scared 'cause I’m on your sideKnow there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for youI will take your painAnd put it on my heartI won’t hesitateJust tell me where to startI thank the oceans for giving me youYou saved me once and I’ll save you tooI won’t hesitate for you”
As I hear my voice fading away to signify the end of the song, I look at him and-holy shit? Is he crying? Does my voice sound that bad?
“Oh my god dude I-was I that bad? I’m so sorry, I could never compare to your talent but even so, I wanted to do something special-please don’t cry!” I plead to him. I immediately grab my phone, shoving it in my purse and looking at the ground.
“I’m so sorry I’m sorry I-” I continue to apologize, not noticing that hes slid off the roof and to the ground in front of me. Just as I go to look up at him instead of seeing a slightly distant figure, I see his face for a brief moment before he wraps his arms tightly around me and my eyes meet his jacket. He smells like cheap men’s cologne. Of course he does. I’m frozen in place, unsure of how to react to this. Does he feel bad?
“Oh, my angel..” He says, pulling away slightly. “You beat me to it.”
I freeze again. I can’t find words to say, until I hear Totty yell, “I TOLD YOU SO!”
“You mean…you-the-” I stutter, visibly blushing.
“Yes.” He plainly states.
“So you-”
“Yes.” He repeats himself.
“…so…will y-” I start to speak until he silences me by connecting our lips for only a moment, but damn why can’t it be longer. I guess it IS late, after all. He envelops me in his arms and strokes my hair.
“Won’t you just let me hold you?” He sing-songs the question, eyes closed and clearly not planning on letting me go yet. That is fine by me, sir. I give, closing my eyes and wrapping my arms around his torso.
After a minute or two, I yawn. It’s pretty late.
“Ah, we both need our beauty sleep, don’t we? We can continue tomorrow.” Kara grins and lets go of me, still standing close.
I nod. “O-okay…I’ll come back tomorrow?” I question him. He nods back, turning to face the house but still looking at me.
“Til then, my angel~” I hear him coo as he walks into the house.
My face flusters, and I shit you not, I run home because I have so much adrenaline in me.
(AHHHH,,,THIS HURT ME PHYSICALLY BUT TWAS WORTH IT)

Hey There Delilah, a Sander Sides AU
Tumblr media
Hey yall so i have an AU based on the extremely logince-y (imo) song Hey There Delilah
(I wanted to make an animatic but i have not the skill nor time so lol here we are)
Roman and Logan are together (yay logince) and Roman is an aspiring rockstar and trying really hard to get big, and Logan has to go away across the country (like in the song lol) to go study so they living that long distance life
And they both get p lonely. I reckon Patton lives on Roman's end and maybe Virgil studies at the same school as Logan. Id like Emile, Remy and Deceit (with like a normal name like Declan or something idk) in the mix somewhere too.
Now Roman's waiting til he hits it big to reveal he's gay to mainstream media, bc then he can go BAM FUCK YA HETERONORMATIVITY and do good things for representation (yay) so he writes songs about Logan but his codename for his bf is Delilah
it’s relevant somehow. like maybe Logan wants to be a writer and his main character is named Delilah?? Or Delilah is his favourite flower?? idk but eitherway the name Delilah is very personal to him and so Roman using it is like a reassurance
Bc watching this whole thing from afar it’s really beginning to get to Logan that this whole shtick Roman’s putting on does actually mean he’s not/no longer interested in him.
but i want this song to premiere at a concert Roman does. All their friends, Patton and Virgil etc (who are in a private box so they have a great view of the stage) could make it... but Logan can’t. And so Virgil livestreams it to Logan on his phone so Logan’s sitting on the balcony of his apartment with his laptop open and it’s v cold and maybe snowing lightly but he’s watching his bf and god he’s so proud of him.
And then Roman steps forward into a spotlight with only an acoustic guitar, his backing band steps offstage, and his eyes scan the crowd but somehow he ends up looking straight at Logan through Virgil’s phone
and he says ‘this next one is a new song i’ve written... for someone very special in my life.’ and the whole crowd cheers and Roman smiles and says softly into the microphone ‘Delilah, you know who you are.’
And Logan’s heart stops as he begins to play and sing
and even the crowd goes quiet. someone pulls out a phone and turns the flashlight on and does the swaying thing. soon everyone is doing it. Virgil does a panning shot across the crowd so Logan can see this crowd that’s for him and Roman and gdi he’s crying so much this dramatic nerd is his bf and if Roman could see what he’s reduced him to he’d never let it go omg
there are so many lines that i think are perfect for logince tho
‘hey there delilah, i know times are getting hard but just believe me girl, some day i’ll pay the bills with this guitar’
‘a thousand miles seems pretty far but they’ve got planes and trains and cars, i’d walk to you if i had no other way’
etc
and yeah it’s a smash hit
Logan hears it all the time on the radio and he loves it
there’s a music video produced, and it’s Roman in the recording studio, Roman with his producer and friends (like Patton’s there and he’s just being cute) but it also has Roman sitting facing the camera and just smiling and being there it’s p intimate
and Logan knows it’s for him. he’ll watch it and brush his fingers against the screen and it’s the closest he’s felt to Roman in months
and so Roman flies to meet him at the end of the year and Logan’s waiting at the airport anxiously and Roman walks up to him and the first words he says are ‘hey there, Delilah’
‘you fkin nerd,’ and Logan just throws his arms around him and iT”S REALLY CUTE OK
and when, a bunch of time later, maybe Logan’s finished school by this point, Roman’s finally made it big and is invited on a chat show (maybe something like Ellen bc i love her tbh) and he gets asked who Delilah is, he holds out his hand and invites Logan on stage and when Logan gets there he’s like ‘hey there delilah’ again because now that’s an injoke with them and he kisses him on NATIONAL TV and now heteronormativity is out the window well done Roman has defeated the straights™ and the host is extremely supportive and just ajswlgojdghwihbskj
happy ending
thank you for coming to my ted talk

Chemical Potential (2/11)
Summary: Slightly homesick and stressed about her abysmal chemistry grade, Rose Tyler meets quirky James Smith, the boy who sits in front of her in their chemistry class. They become fast friends as James makes it his personal mission to help Rose get through the semester.
Ten x Rose University AU
This chapter: ~2200 words, all ages
Notes: This was written for the lovely @thegreenfairy13 as part of the @dwsecretsanta gift exchange. I’ve changed my posting schedule to the middle of the week as AO3 is more frequently down over the weekends, I’ve noticed.
AO3 | Ch1 | Ch2 | Ch3 | Ch4 | Ch5 | Ch6 | Ch7 | Ch8 | Ch9 | Ch10 | epilogue
The early October sun shone brightly overhead as they walked towards the center of the sprawling campus, their joined hands swinging loosely between them. The day was cool but steadily warming, and Rose saw several students carrying jackets and sweatshirts over their arms.
“This is one of the most annoying times of year,” James said. “The mornings are cold but the afternoons are warm. It’s impossible to know how to dress!”
“Layers,” Rose answered, unzipping the front of her jacket to reveal the long-sleeve shirt underneath.
“Quite right,” he agreed. “I can’t wait ‘til the trees start to change. It’s beautiful.”
Rose nodded. The campus had been built into a mountain, and trees lined every walkway. She couldn’t wait to take photographs in the height of autumn.
“What year are you?” Rose asked curiously.
“Second year,” he replied. “And you?”
“First year,” she said.
“Oh, so you must be brand-new to the country and the whole institution of university.” When Rose nodded, his voice softened. “How are you adjusting?”
A dull ache radiated through her chest, though not as fierce as it had been when she’d broken down in the loo.
They’d reached the dining hall, and James released her hand to jog a few paces ahead of her to hold open the door for her. The chivalrous act made her smile. Jimmy had never gone out of his way to hold open doors or anything for her.
James’s eyes were expectant, and Rose remember he’d asked her a question.
“Oh, you know.” She shrugged. “Some days are good, others not so much.”
James nodded knowingly, and when they were both inside, he rested his hand at her lower back and guided her to the food court. The touch sent tingles down her spine.
Rose looked around with interest. She very rarely found herself in this building; most days, she packed breakfast and lunch and had no need to purchase a meal. She thought of the banana and baggie of cereal in her backpack, but when she smelled eggs and bacon, her stomach rumbled, and she knew she wasn’t in the mood for the breakfast she’d brought.
James grabbed a tray for himself and one for her, then he made a beeline for the pancake station.
“Oh, brilliant!” Rose followed him and saw a giant grin on his face. “Banana pancakes!”
Rose smiled at his enthusiasm and giggled when he stacked six pancakes onto his plate. She was more conservative and only took two, then followed him to scoop eggs and bacon beside her pancakes.
“I’m still not completely used to Americans’ love of sweet foods for breakfast,” Rose said, watching James completely douse his plate in maple syrup, covering not only the pancakes but also his eggs and bacon.
“Oh, I love it. I’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth,” he admitted sheepishly.
“You don’t look like it,” Rose blurted, and she cringed.
But James laughed and winked, then moved to the other end of the food court for coffee. Rose followed and got herself a cup of tea.
When they reached the register, James whipped out his student ID card while Rose dug into her backpack for her wallet. James frowned when he saw she’d taken out cash.
“You don’t have a meal plan?”
“Am I supposed to know what that means?”
“A meal plan,” he repeated. “Everyone who lives on campus is required to have one. And even some people who don’t live on campus get a meal plan. Like me. I don’t live on campus but I spend so much time here and sometimes I don’t feel like bringing my own food. I’m rubbish with having cash on me and I don’t like using my credit or debit card for small purchases so it’s just easier for me to put dining dollars into my account.”
Rose bit her lip to stifle a smirk the longer he rambled on. She met the eye of the clerk at the register and grinned when the woman rolled her eyes in exasperation.
“No, I don’t live on campus,” Rose explained. “I pack breakfast and lunch most days.”
“Then here, let me…” James turned to the cashier and said, “All of this is together.”
Heat flooded from the tips of Rose’s ears down her neck. “No, you don’t have to do that. I can pay for myself.”
“I know, but I want to,” James answered, his cheeks going pink. “Please? I’d like to. It’s not every day I make a new friend.”
Rose sincerely doubted that, what with how talkative he was even to a perfect stranger like her.
“Are you sure?” she mumbled.
“Absolutely.”
He handed over his ID card to the cashier, and one swipe later, James and Rose walked with their food to the long wall of windows at the back of the room.
“Thank you,” Rose said softly, following James to a round table that could comfortably seat six people.
“Anytime. God, I’m famished! I usually eat breakfast before class but I accidentally overslept this morning. I thought it was Tuesday, not Wednesday. I’ve got a totally different alarm for Tuesdays. So I didn’t have time to eat.”
James sliced his fork through his stack of pancakes and shoveled them into his mouth. His cheeks puffed out comically and his eyes fluttered shut as he let out a soft humming sound of contentment.
“I love pancakes,” he sighed through his full mouth.
Rose smiled and took a reasonable bite of her food.
“I’ve got another class at eleven,” James warned. “Calc 3. Do you have another class today?”
“Art of the Renaissance at noon.”
James furrowed his brow. “What’s your major, anyway?”
“Art and education,” she replied. “I want to teach someday, I think. You?”
“That’s brilliant. And I’m double-majoring in physics and mechanical engineering.” He paused. “What the hell are you doing in general chemistry?”
Rose looked down at her plate and speared her fork through her eggs.
“It was the only science class that fit into my schedule,” she muttered. “I didn’t think it would be this hard.”
“Can you withdraw?” he asked gently.
“Not without dropping below twelve credits,” she said bitterly. “I’m here on a full scholarship, and they’ll take it away if I’m not a full-time student. So I’m kinda stuck.” She huffed out a huge breath and massaged her temples, her earlier anxiety coming back. “I need to keep a 3.0 GPA, and I can’t get anything below a C.” Tears welled into her eyes as her heart started hammering throughout her whole body. “I’m so fucked, James.”
“Hey, hey, hey.” His chair scraped across the floor until it was butted up against hers. His thigh pressed into hers and he wrapped his arms wrapped around her shoulders, tugging her into his chest. She tensed for a minute but then melted into the embrace.
Tears dripped down her cheeks as he hugged her tightly. He nuzzled his cheek into the top of her hair and rubbed his hand up and down her back in long, slow strokes. She buried her face into his chest when she remembered she’d wiped off all of her makeup and wouldn’t ruin his shirt. She sniffled, and her lungs filled with the smell of him. Sandalwood and laundry detergent and fresh air. God, he smelled good.
“Easy does it,” he murmured.
She let out a shuddering breath, mortification overtaking her. Pulling back from his hug, she grabbed her napkin and blotted her eyes and blew her nose.
“God, I’m sorry,” she whispered, pressing her lips into something she hoped looked like a smile.
“Don’t be sorry,” he said. “It’s okay to show emotion. It’s okay to cry when stressed. You’ve had loads to adjust to in such a small space of time.”
Rose nodded and mangled her napkin in her fist.
“How did you get here, anyway?” he asked. “To an American university.”
“A plane,” she teased, a genuine smile finally crossing her face.
James rolled his eyes and snorted. “Smartarse.”
She giggled, and said, “I applied to a few universities in America. A mate of mine moved to New York last year with his job and really loves it here. I wanted a fresh start. Moving to a different country seemed like a good way to do that.”
He looked at her curiously, obviously wanting more details. She didn’t feel like going into her past with him yet, and she waited to see if he would press for more information. She was relieved when he stayed silent.
“How about you?” she asked. “How did you end up here?”
“I’ve lived in the United States since I was sixteen,” he replied. “My Aunt Sarah moves us around a lot for her job. She’s a journalist and is always moving to different countries, chasing stories. She moved us to the US six years ago. She’s currently in Flint, Michigan doing some reporting. I moved here for school.”
Rose desperately wanted to ask what happened to his parents, but he’d given her the courtesy of not asking for more information than what she’d provided. She would do the same.
Instead, she asked, “How old are you?”
“Twenty-two,” he answered. “Twenty-three in December. A little older than the typical undergraduate student, but I got a late start. I did a bit of travelling, trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. And I honestly still have no idea what I want to do.”
They lapsed into an only slightly awkward silence. Rose trailed her fork tines through the leftover syrup on her plate and James finished the food on his.
“Do you want to study together?”
Rose looked up at him when he spoke, but he was very intently adding packets of sugar to his coffee. One… Two… Three… Four… Blimey, five! He wasn’t kidding about the sweet tooth, she thought.
“I thought it might be nice, y’know? Chemistry is hard, and next to impossible if you go it alone. I thought maybe we could buddy up and help each other through.”
Rose was about to decline. She’d caught a glimpse of his exam score over his shoulder in class that morning—a perfect score. He didn’t need her help studying, he just felt sorry for her. She didn’t want to burden him, no matter how much help she needed to get her through the class. If it was even possible for her to get through the class with a satisfactory grade.
But it would be so nice to have a friend to hang out with, even if it was just to study. She liked James—a lot—and she found herself wanting to get to know him. He seemed like someone she could become really good friends with.
James had finally looked up from his coffee. His eyes were deep and earnest, and she saw absolutely no hint of reluctance in them like he regretted offering to help her study.
“I’m really bad at chemistry,” she warned.
James shrugged. “We’ll take it slowly.” He opened and closed his mouth a few times, then reached out and covered her hand with his own. His palms were hot from being cradled around his coffee, and the warmth felt nice. “I want to help you if I can, Rose.”
Rose bit her lip. What was the worst that could happen? She could agree to study with him and still fail the class and their study sessions would be a complete waste of James’s time. But if she studied alone, she was certainly going to fail the class.
So what if she did study with James and still failed? Maybe she’d get a good friend out of the experience.
And what if—what if—she studied with him and passed?
“Okay,” she said softly. “Yeah, let’s study together.”
James’s face lit up in a delighted grin, and he gave her fingers a sharp squeeze. “Brilliant! I look forward to it.” His eyes drifted behind her shoulder, and his brows lifted. “Bugger. We’ve been here longer than I thought. I’ve gotta run.”
Rose glanced over her shoulder to the clock on the wall. Ten-fifty-five. Oh, right. He had a class at eleven.
“I’ll talk to you later,” he promised, standing up from the table.
Rose smirked. “Yeah? And how are you gonna do that?”
“Hmm? Oh! Er…” He fumbled around in his pockets, first the front pockets, then his back pockets, then finally his jacket pocket until he found his phone. Rose took it and typed her contact info into it. When she handed it back, he tapped on the screen and Rose felt her own mobile vibrating. It stopped after a second when James shoved his phone into his back pocket.
“There, now you’ve got my number,” he said. “Right! Goodbye for now, Rose Tyler!”
“Bye, James. Thanks for breakfast. And thanks for… thanks.” She trailed off awkwardly, but James’s eyes softened in understanding.
“Gotta dash,” he said. He turned away and began walking away, and Rose settled in at their table to catch up on some homework before her noontime class. “Hey, Rose?” She looked up to see James had turned back around. “I’m so glad I met you.”
Rose beamed at him, feeling her heart skip a beat when he returned the smile.
“Me too,” she called out, and she heard a high-pitched giggle before he turned and strode outside.

Deep Roots
@pillarspromptsweekly fill #75: Double. Since it’s AU anyway, decided to use the Star Rewritten ‘verse, which turned out to be a very good decision.
Someday she’d learn. It was a matter of averages and consequences that someday, eventually, she would heed the ‘don’t mess with things you don’t understand’ proverb. But that day was not today. Or likely any time soon; Adela had always felt if no messed with things they didn’t understand, they’d never stop being things no one understood. Her curiosity was a matter of public service, really.
The justification earned her knowing chuckles and skeptical looks from most of her friends, a ‘that’s one way to look at it’ and an approving pat on the back from Kana, and a quiet, heartfelt ‘just please be careful’ from Heodan. She did her best, because it was Heodan asking, but some days you needed to take chances and risk making mistakes. Knowledge only came with testing limits, it was just a matter of finding the right balance between testing and being safe.
Today that balance meant letting Heodan come along to watch her back(and if she enjoyed having his company and no one else’s, well, that was just a nice bonus, wasn’t it?) while she more thoroughly examined some of the relics and such in the Endless Paths. After all, what was the point of clearing out all the dangers if she couldn’t explore a little? Today she wanted to get a closer look at Od Nua’s tomb. The lot of them had been... rather antsy the first time through--knowing they were near the end and just wanting this done. She hadn’t stopped to look around.
As Engwithan burial chambers went, it was rather plain, Adela admitted as she walked the edges of the room. But given the circumstances of Od Nua’s death, that was hardly a surprise.
“How long do you think you’ll need, Adi?” Heodan asked, his gaze shifting suspiciously from shadow to shadow. “This part of the place feels.... unsettling.”
“Imagine passing through when it was guarded by the spirit of a mad king,” Adela said breezily as she took a charcoal rubbing of one of the few wall carvings. “It was ten times more nerve-wracking. But I shouldn’t need more than an hour before we can start working our way back up, promise.”
“Why are we doing it like that, anyway?” His tone was all idle curiosity, fingers brushing a carven pillar.
“So if we get tired and call it a day after four or five levels, I don’t have to come as far down to pick back up,” Adela explained. She stowed the rolled-up rubbing in her satchel and moved on to the next section.
“Smart,” Heodan chuckled.
“Thank you.” She focused on the wall more intently, hoping to hide her blush in the flickering torch- and adra-light. (They were such a new development, and she still felt silly going red as a schoolgirl half the time when he complimented her.) There wasn’t much more to be found there, however, and so she turned her attention to the adra column in the center of the chamber, final resting place of Od Nua.
To her surprise, the knobby adra seemed.... brighter than before. It hadn’t been dead after Od Nua’s departure, but it had dimmed significantly without an immediate soul presence sustaining it. Now, though, it appeared to have regained some of its natural glow.
“Interesting...” Adela murmured, walking closer, hand outstretched. Maybe I can feel what’s going on...
“Adi, are you sure that’s a good idea-” Heodan’s cation was lost under a thunderous crack as the adra flashed so bright under her touch for a moment all either of them could see was white.
When they blinked the spots out of their vision, the adra column had cracked, fine splinters littering the floor around both the column and the two kith who now sat sprawled in front of it-- a tanned elf with short, messy brown hair, and a pale, freckled human with long red hair tied up in a messy bun.
“Damn, Rekke,” the elf groaned good-naturedly, rubbing the back of her head.  “When I told you to just go for it with hittin’ me, I didn’t mean quite so fuckin’ hard.”
The redhead muttered something in a language Adela didn’t quite recognize and shook his head. “I do not think you can pin this on me, Watcher.”
Watcher? She’s... like me? Adela stared at the new arrivals, then looked over at Heodan, only to find him looking at her as if hoping for an explanation. She didn’t have one; this was hardly an everyday occurrence.
And it got even weirder when the elf broke from gaping at her surrounding to whirl toward Adela’s surprised gasp. Her eyes narrowed at the presence of kith, then flew wide when her gaze landed on Heodan. She physically recoiled, looking like she’d seen a ghost.
“Aren’t you fuckin’ dead?”
Apparently, in her mind, she had.
>O<
The following silence was both awkward and protracted, until Heodan looked down at himself as if to check and then, skeptically, back to the elf. “No?”
She scrambled to her feet, still staring at the two of them, and offered her companion a hand up. “Not tryin’ to imply it’s a bad thing you’re not, it’s just... I thought... the fuckin’ bîaŵac....” She broke off her disjointed train of thought to look around again. “Alright, I’m sorry, where the fuck are we? And who’re you?”
“We’re in the Endless Paths beneath Caed Nua,” Adela replied slowly, equally curious where these kith had come from and how in Wael’s name they’d gotten here. But it was probably a good idea to get this elf less on edge before she drew the sabres hanging at her belt.
Her answer appeared to have the opposite effect, the elf narrowed her eyes.  “And what’re you  doin’ here? Isn’t it blazin’ dangerous?”
“That’s why I have back-up” --Adela jerked a thumb towards Heodan--”just in case. And I’m down here to explore what’s beneath my keep.”
“Your keep? How the fuck’s it your keep?” The elf crossed her arms.
Galawain’s gaping maw, can she make it through a sentence without swearing?  “Because I cleared it out and routed Lord Gathbin and was named the Roadwarden,” Adela said slowly. She inched closer to Heodan at the look on the elf’s face. “What?”
“I did all that,” the elf said, briefly uncrossing her arms to emphatically jab a finger into her own chest. “Five fuckin’ years ago. What’s goin’ on and who. the fuck. are you?”
“Adela Tecali, Watcher, scholar, and Roadwarden,” Adela introduced herself.  “Apparently, you... already know Heodan... somehow.” Though you think he’s dead, so I dunno what to make of that. The elf’s muttered words about the bîaŵac came back to her. “Were you part of the caravan?”
“Odema’s? To Gilded Vale?” She paused to wait for Adela’s nod. “Yeah, but I was the only survivor, between the Glanfathans and...” another glance at Heodan, “other things. You got Calisca hidden somewhere around here, too?”
Adela frowned. This was... several different kinds of unsettling. She wished Aloth and Kana were still here to help untangle this mess. “No, she’s dead. Has been for about a year. Who’re you?”
“Oh, where are my manners?” the elf said sarcastically. “I always forget to introduce myself to people I meet in unfamiliar parts of the shithole maze underneath my keep.” She flung one arm out in an aggrandized bow. “Tavi Illani, Watcher, Roadwarden, adventurer.” She nodded at the redhead. “This is Rekke. His Aedyran’s rough but gettin’ better so... talk slow.”
“Oh, really?” Adela fixed Rekke with a curious look. “Where’re you from? What’s your native tongue?” Why’s it sound so close to mine?
“Adi, Adi.” Heodan rested one hand on her shoulder, a smile in his voice despite the bizarre circumstances. “She just said slow. And don’t you think we should figure out what happened before you start interrogating our visitors as to their origins?”
“Right, right, sorry,” Adela winced. “My curiosity gets away from me too easily.”
“Can’t blame ya, under the circumstances,” Tavi shrugged, one side of her mouth tugging up in a smile. “Bet you an’ Kana would get along fuckin’ great.”
“We do. Well, did,” Adela corrected. “He left for Rauatai a couple weeks back.”
“Okay, can this mess get any blazin’ weirder?” Tavi raked her hands through her hair, which did nothing for its messy state.
“Hopefully not,” Adela said wryly. “What were you doing right before you ended up here?”
“We’d stopped on an uninhabited island so we could make ship repairs--fuckin’ pirates, y’know. We beat ‘em, but not easy--an’ Rekke and I decided to pass time by sparrin’. It’s practice and burnin’ off adrenaline at the same time, seemed like a good idea.”
“On your ship or on the island?” Adela bit her lip in thought, already working on a theory.
“The island,” Tavi said. “We were tryin’ to stay out of the way, after all.”
“Is there adra on this island?”
“Yeah,” Tavi said slowly. “Some right near where we were sparrin’, too. This bastard” --she affectionately bumped her fist against Rekke’s shoulder--”clocked me but good an’ I banged against it... You think that’s the reason?”
Adela shrugged. “Id hafta do some digging to be sure” --a lot of digging-- “but we already know adra has deep roots that connect all across Eora. Wouldn’t surprise me if they can do more than that.”
“Great, like I didn’t have enough reason to be wary of that shit,” Tavi groaned.
“That sounds like a story,” Adela said, ears twitching as she rocked up on the balls of her feet. Heodan cleared his throat softly and she added, “which you’d probably be more comfortable telling up in the library? Or Brighthollow? That’s prob’ly better; it’s cozy an’ I have plenty of room since everyone’s gone on their way. Still a couple hours’ trek up, I’m afraid.”
Tavi exchanged a look with Rekke and shrugged. “Better than stayin’ here til we figure out what happened and how to fix it.” Her expression turned sober. “If we can fix it.”
“Oh, there’s gotta be something we can do,” Adela said warmly as the four of them started up the stairs. “We just have to figure out what made it happen in the first place, and use that to work out a way to send you back... wherever you came from.”
“Just like that, huh?” Tavi laughed.
“While I’m sure the actual steps will take longer than the summation made it sound, yeah, that’s basically all we have to do.” Adela twirled the end of her braid around her finger and glanced up at Heodan. “And I’m sure certain people will be happy I’m pursuing something less risky than crawling around the tomb, ossuary, blight forges, and other unsavory domains of a mad Engwithan king.”
Heodan’s lips twitched in a smile, but his eyes were a clear and innocent blue when he looked back at her. “I’m sure I don’t know who you’re talking about.”
“Uh-huh, sure.” Adela ran her thumb over the jewel in her ring. “You’re lucky I find the prospect of days on end reading old books just as enticing as crawling around a multi-layer crypt looking for artifacts.”
“Hylea’s tits, just kiss already,” Tavi muttered behind them, and the two shared a mischievous look.
“If you insist,” Adela said cheerfully, and scampered ahead a few steps to solve the height disparity before leaning in to steal a quick kiss. Heodan obliged with a laugh, holding her close a couple seconds longer than she’d been planning, which made Adela smile. She winked at Tavi over his shoulder when they parted. ”Thanks for giving me an excuse.”
“You’re welcome,” Tavi chuckled. “Damn, way to call my bluff. So where’d you two meet?”
“Odema’s caravan,” Adela said, resuming course for Caed Nua’s basement. “I was traveling from Ixamitl and he was from-”
“-Aedyr, I remember,” Tavi said absently, followed by an awkward silence as ‘Aren’t you fuckin’ dead?’ echoed in their minds. “So, then, a burning question: If Watcher Adela here.and I somehow lived the same fuckin’ events and all... Heodan, how’d you survive for her?”
“I was still in the ruins,” he said, voice soft. “I needed to catch my breath.” Adela didn’t have to look to know he’d pressed one hand against the scars just below his ribs. “A skuldr got me pretty good, and we’d been in a hurry. Adi and Calisca kept going and... I missed all the fun.”
“Heh, fun’s one way to put it,” Tavi muttered. “’Specially if it went down for her like it did for me...”
The rest of their ascent was occupied with Adela and Tavi comparing and contrasting their experiences from Cilant Lîs onward. It was one of the most surreal conversations Adela had ever had in her life.
She couldn’t wait to figure out the driving force behind it.
----------------------------------------
This was originally going to go through the solution and getting Tavi and Rekke back where they belong, but it was getting really crazy long and Adi started sounding like she belonged on The Flash explaining the multiverse or something, so suffice it to say, she’s right about adra, it connects multiple Eoras and they use that to get Tavi and Rekke back . (the cut stuff may show up at some point; there’s Adi being curious about Seki, ofc, and some cute stuff with her and Heodan and easter egg references to other people’s Watchers :3 it’s just another 1.5k and still growing, so I decided to cut here for the sake of my sanity)

Friendship bracelet
Gavin x reader
Warnings: Swearing
Summary: endless bickering and an irritable Hank. How else could this end?
Tumblr media
The bullpen buzzed as usually. Work to be done. Reports to be filled. The officers acted like the screaming detectives were a common place occurrence. And it was. You were fuming as you pushed none other than Gavin Reed in the chest “You’re an asshole! And you’ll never be anything but that!” He towered over you, easily, poking a finger into your chest “You need to learn how to stop being a fucking control freak. I can handle myself, unlike you!” “Unlike me?!”
You and your lovely partner always got in to shouting matches. It never got to anything physical, the two of you would always break away before anything bad would happen, but you always seemed to be arguing. In the bullpen, the break room, and even on a couple of cases. You followed rules, knowing they were put in place for a reason. Reed, however, liked to stretch them every now and then.
The two of you were so in each other’s faces that you didn’t even register Hank silently walk up and handcuff you to each other until the cool metal clicked on to your left wrist. You immediately cut your sentence off and looked down, eyes wide “Hank, what the fuck?” You looked up at the grizzled detective, his face tired and cross. “You two need to get your shit together. I’m tired of hearing nonstop at each other’s throats. So either make up or kill each other already got it?” Reed scoffed, glaring holes into the Lieutenant. Hank glared right back “Think of these as friendship bracelets. Maybe you’ll actually get along better.”
Hank turned and left, your shoulders slumped as you watched him go in disbelief. You were, quite literally, jerked out of your thoughts as Reed moved away from you. You planted your feet and jerked back “Ow Reed! The fuck?” He turned impatiently towards you “I  have work to do Y/n. I’m not going to spend all day carting you around!” The fight resumed, with the added tugging of the binds which now held you two. “I have work too!” You shook your head then hit his chest and leaned in whispering low. “I have an idea to get us out of the mess you got us in. Which is usual, I know”  sarcasm dripped off your voice and you continued before he could speak up. “I have my handcuff keys in my back left pocket. Let’s go to the break room and get them out. These are police grade handcuffs so my keys should work in them.”
He looked down at you and nodded, heading off. His legs were longer than yours, so in order to keep the handcuffs from hurting, you kept pace. Once in, you turned to face him. He immediately went to reach with his right hand, pulling your left arm back “Ow! Damnit Gavin you gotta use your other hand” you spat at him. He rolled his eyes lightly “I’m sorry, do you wanna be stuck like this all day?” awkward silence drifted between the two of you as his unbound hand snaked his way into your left back pocket. You had to step closer, to help him out.
Your face was on fire at the position you were in. Standing this close you could smell the scent of aftershave, leather, coffee and smoke coming off of him. It was an intoxicating blend that had you breathing deeply. You’d be lying to yourself if you said you didn’t find him attractive. But he always set your head on fire it seemed. It was a conflicting attraction. One that made you want to kiss him and-You heard a chuckle “enjoying yourself?” Setting your jaw, your eyebrows raised hoping the blush on your face wasn’t as apparent as it felt. “are you? Surely you’ve found the keys by now”
With a smirk, Gavin pulled the jingling keys from your pocket, holding them up. Relief washed over you, but soon turned cold and heavy as the keys were taken from his grasp. Surprised hit the both of you as you turned seeing Connor.
Freedom rested within the androids hand “I have specific orders from Hank to take both of your keys and make sure that he is the only one who can release the cuffs” you reached your hand out and he pulled back “Connor please think about what you are doing. I might kill Reed if we’re like this all day” Connor gave a sympathetic smile “I have my orders detective” with that he turned and left the break room. Tense silence filtered through the air.
“Would you really kill me?” Gavin’s eyes examined you, his voice shattering the quiet. You looked at him shocked “of course not. You drive me crazy and can be a bit of an asshole but...I do like- Er I mean, you are my partner. I’d-“ you shook your head looking away, guilt squeezed your stomach “Id take a bullet for you Gavin. Your safety is important “ quiet settled in again, even more uncomfortable than before “let’s just... go back to our desks” you didn’t look at him, walking side by side. The air around both of you was thick and full of tension.
If walking was hard, trying to work at separate desks was worse. It was a constant tug-o-war. Muttered complaints and grumbling thrown back and forth. Finally, tiring of the pulling, Reed stood and moved your rolling chair next to his, then sat back down “I have reports I need to-“ He looked at you “I am almost done with these ones and then we can do yours. Hell I’ll even help you” you shook your head “fine do whatever”
You watched him work, your tethered hand moving with his. “You’re reckless.” His movements only paused a moment before he continued, irritation seeping off him “I know I’m a stickler for keeping with the rules but you don’t understand” you don’t know what was making you talk, what was making you so vulnerable to him, but you kept on “I had to scratch and bite and fight my way up to this job. I had to work hard and not give up. And I can’t risk that work on bending even the tiniest of rules. “
His actions stopped while you were talking. Turning to face you his gaze was surprisingly soft and kind “I understand that. No really I do..” he made sure he had your attention “I can’t tell you how many nights I spent working hard to get where I am. I guess now that I’m here it feels like I’ve got to fight now more than ever. That I’ll do anything to keep this job... this life.”
Swallowing down your nerves the two of you say like that, til the clearing of his throat made you jump. “I’m done let’s work on your stuff now” with that his walls were back up and you worked silently on your files, thinking on his words everyone and then.
The day went on and with that it became easier to work with the handcuffs. Surprisingly, fights between the two of you dwelled down. You were both in the break room, trying to fix coffee for both when a click was heard behind you. A weight lifted off your wrist and you turned to see Hank’s retreating figure “they’ve served their purpose. But if you start fighting again, I swear to handcuff you together and throw you in a cell” with that, he left the room. You rubbed the sore wrist
The smell of black coffee drifted to your nose, Gavin held your cup out to you. You grabbed it, your fingers grazing his. None of you pulled away. “Look... about earlier...” you looked up to see his eyes avoiding yours “you’re-you’re good at what you do alright?” This was hard for him. Not entirely because of his ego, but because it was hard for him to be this real with people and not get hurt.
You looked down “that... means a lot coming from you” the sincerity made him glance at you “I mean.... I see the work you do and- you work hard. It’s admirable” you smiled at him, eyes sparkling slightly. As if in a predatory manor, he tilted his head getting closer to you, eyebrows slightly knit together. You showed no recoil, watching him
“What are you doing?” Your whispered words hung in the air. The question was asked, even though the answer was somewhat known. His hands moved to place the coffees on the counter, stepping closer “when we were handcuffed earlier in here, I think I saw something. And I want to know if I’m right” eyes danced between yours, as hands were placed gingerly on your hips.
You placed your hands on his forearms, not to push him away, but to act as an anchor, holding him there. Lips barely grazed, you pushed closer, needing contact. The kiss was sweet and soft, something you weren’t expecting from Gavin Reed. You hands moved to his face as fingers dug into your hips. Bliss.
Breaking the kiss, your foreheads touched. A slow smirk began to grow on his face, confusion on yours “what?” “I knew it” you rolled your eyes at the smug look on his face and pushed away from him, grabbing your cup “oh real perfect Reed” you tried to storm away but he caught your arm, turning you and pecking your lips several time in soft kisses “I’m just glad ok?”
You couldn’t help but smile “yeah me too. It feels nice to have that tension gone” he nodded, walking by your side “if you’d like to continue to work on that tension...” “seriously Reed?” He shrugged with a smirk. You mirrored his smirk and gently bumped your hip against his. “How about dinner?” Your offer caught him off guard, and smugly you left him, making your way back to your desk.
With a shake if his head, he moved quick to catch up “Deal!” he called after you, leaving a smile on your face. Fights would continue, of course they would. But now they were remedied with quick kissses and warmth instead of bickering and tension. You actually found yourself glad that Hank had implemented the ‘friendship bracelets’. It allowed for barriers to be broken down. You wouldn’t have gotten to this with out them. And you’re very happy where you are
