I received the final volume of Noragami in the mail yesterday & read through it so I wanted to do a proper post but I was too tired yesterday to manage so I'm writing it today.

I'm so grateful for Noragami being in my life for the past 10 years (almost to the day--as I know I watched the first season in December of 2014). I have always always been interested in Shinto... I wrote a paper about it in my Asian Film Studies class (regarding it's influence on works from Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli) and I also did a few presentations about a few elements in my Japanese classes.

So to find a story where Shinto is very clearly the main theme but also heavily deals with abuse in it's many forms (child abuse, emotional abuse, abuse from a parent regardless of age) is something that struck so deeply for me. Yato is someone who I have so much in common with... Which is funny to say because you want to be like 'how could I ever have something in common with a god' and yet...

Yukine reminded me immediately of Yahiko from Rurouni Kenshin, a character I always loved for his spunky attitude and his growth through the series [and Yato with Kenshin regarding his history as a god of calamity vs hitokiri battousai]. I can say much the same for same for Yukine. My connection to Yahiko and Rurouni Kenshin has been soiled by the mangaka unfortunately, but I'm so thankful I found a series that moved me even more. The aftermath of Yukine's ablution (read: Hiyori's relief & hugging both of the boys) brought me to tears and ultimately is what made me *need* to read the manga immediately upon completion of the anime.

Hiyori is... everything good about this world. I don't know how else to say it. She is an icon, everything we should all strive to be. She's constantly true to herself and does everything within her power to help the ones she loves (whether they are 'alive' or not).

I'll stop here for now but just a reminder to everyone that @memoriesofnoragami is a week dedicated to reflecting upon our amazing times with Noragami, coming up January 6th through the 12th!
