(Want to put this one out for public) What would you say is the most impressive action figure you've personally bought?
"Impressive" is a tough word considering the… let's be charitable and say "significant" number of figures I've collected over many, many years.
I have many I consider beautiful, or iconic representations of characters I love, but that's not the same thing, though there is heavy overlap as I tend to only buy figures of characters I like.
I have even been gifted with some extraordinary unique ones, in the form of unreleased versions, or custome mad figures by incredibly talented people.
But you didn't ask for "Favourite" or "Most valuable", you asked for "Impressive" and even then I can only narrow it down to a few
I own an original G1 Transformers Japanese box set of the Predacons. (It was more of a complicated international (three continent) swap between different fandoms, but I did the co-ordinating, and money was involved in getting this as my end result)

This one isn't mine, but it's the same set
The individual beast modes look great, their individual robot modes are cool and Predaking himself is freaking awesome.

It might be cheating as it's not a single figure, its a combiner but it was SOLD as the combined figure so I'm loopholing it in! :P
The Figma Table Museum series is amazing, with action figure representations of figures from art and history, including DaVinci's Vitruvian Man, Botticelli's Birth of Venus, Michelangelo's David, Munsch's The Scream and Rodin's Thinker amongst others
But my favourite is their Tutankhamun, which has a staggering level of detail. The regular version has the mummy with a beautiful sculpt of the famous death mask. The DX version includes one of the sarcophagi that the mummy was found in, which the figure fits inside and, again, the sculpting is remarkable.

Plus a random shout out to Figma's other figures, which are never less than impressive
And I would be remiss if I didn't include at least one of the Saint Seiya Myth Cloths (So, I'm going to include two).
Andromeda Shun is one of my all time favourite characters, and the figures they have created for him are stunning, especially once the geeks who grew up on the roginal anime grew up and started working on making action figures themselves
This is what the original mass market 1987 figure for Shun looked like which, I should add in case I seem churlish, I remain inordinately fond of.

This is what the 2010 Myth Cloth looked like

Bit of a glow up, isn't it! :) (Pricewise too, but that's neither here nor there)
And the Gold Libra Saint remains a remarkable creation, the representational form of a pair of weighing scales transforming nicely into not only the Cloth itself, but the six pairs of weapons it contains, one for each of the Gold Saints

Honourable mention to several of NECA's lines, like Gargoyles and Fraggle Rock, which are impressive sculpts
Oh, and a shoutout out for sheer mechanical creativity goes to the BeastBox series from 52Toys. The main gimmick being that each figure, no matter how large or complex, unfolds from a standard modular 1.5" cube shape
I only have a few of them, because I suspect I could get VERY hooked on these, but these include White Noise, the owl (looking like Bubo from Clash of the Titans got an upgrade)

and Ironblood and Loyalheart, the twin battle bunnies who share a cube between them

However, I suspect I will surprise no one in that perhaps the one that continues to impress me each and every time I see it is one related to another characterI am forever associated with.
Which is of course, Robin, the Boy Wonder!
This is the Hot Toys Batman 1966 version, which is a superb 11" figure generally (allowing for some of the ever present issues with fabrics on smaller figures, meaning his cape is rather over-stitched so it's not too fragile)

But it's the face sculpt which gets me every time, this is way beyond the uncanny valley and right into the downright eeriely lifelike (And no surprise there, Hot Toys are legendary for their likenesses)
THIS is a plastic sculpt and paint job? They've even given him freaking FRECKLES!! (He probably has nose hair too, though I admit I've never checked for that... I'm weird, but not THAT flavour of weird)

Though, me being me, you might also not be surprised that I am also fond of the sculpting on this other Hot Toys Robin, though in that case, it's not just the face ;) !

Cobra Kai s6 pt 2 spoilers
Idk, idc, but I loved that ending
Everyone got their happy ending except for like Kreese and silver
The scene with Kreese and Johnny hugging and crying was everything to me.
KREESE TOOK OUT TERRY WITH HIM? Terry definitely deserved it, but I was sad to see Kreese go
I love the parallel between Daniel and Johnny from like the first movie by them saying you’re alright. It was so adorable
I love the scene Daniel told Terry that cobra Kai never dies because I’m sure he would’ve never imagined saying that let alone wearing the gi. Terry’s face dropped so quick.
I’m so glad that Axel decided to leave like I feel so bad for him. He was like a really big puppy like a golden retriever so cute.
It was so freaking cute when Miguel was like I have to be Axel for Robby. Like when they first met, they were enemies and they came out as brothers and that’s so admirable to me.
I love that name their daughter after Johnny’s mom it was so cute
I like the Bobby Brown appearance
I love the scene in the bar, where everyone is cheering on Johnny and then they just hug
Although I’m sad that they never really addressed what Zara did to Robbie, I’m glad Tory got to beat her down for it.
I love the binary Bros just geeking out with each other and being so happy and cute
I’m really sad that there wasn’t much Kenny in the last couple of episodes
I wish there was more of hawk just of him or should I say Eli?
I love that Daniel and Johnny ended up coaching, their respective dojo Johnny’s being slightly more different by being neutral
I love Carmen and her mom. I don’t know, they were just so iconic.
Amanda was also iconic, especially when she was wearing the gi and cheering them on
I had no idea how to feel about the Miyagi ai thing because he also passed in real life and I was just like oh
Tori and Robby were everything to me this season. I love the fact that he jumped on his crutches to tell her that he loved her.
hated Sensei Wolf, but he is so fine

Call for Submissions: The Self-Love Tournament 🎉👨❤️💋👨👩❤️💋👩
Be it alternate universes or freak transporter accidents, a witch's curse or timeline shenanigans, one thing that's fascinated scifi and geek fan culture for ages, especially on this hellsite, has been the prospect of meeting yourself.
And also.
What if you then did the dirty.
To honor this glorious tradition, I'm assembling a tournament that pairs the sexiest of tumblrmen with themselves, and then pits them against each other. We'll determine, once and for all, the selfcest champion.
Automatically included are some of the greats (and my personal favorites). Feel free to include them in submissions so I can curate lists of aliases/start collecting propaganda
The Onceler (from The Lorax movie)
Loki (from Marvel/the Loki tv show)
Ice King (from Adventure Time/Fionna and Cake)
Kira Nerys (from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
Dave Strider (from Homestuck)
The Doctor (from Doctor Who)
Sans (from Undertale)
England (from Hetalia)
Submissions
I'll try to prioritize characters with more submissions or more impassioned propaganda, so keep that in mind when submitting
+ Ground Rules:
I reserve the right to exclude any characters or fandoms from the bracket (to be fair, the most hated usually get voted off quickly anyway). For example, I decided to exclude a MCYT character, as their player is not comfortable with certain fandom behavior, and there's significant overlap between the character and creator. I'm not here to shame you, but I don't want to amplify something that sexually objectifies a real person beyond their stated boundaries.
Feel free to vote on whatever criteria you see fit! I try to prioritize iconic ✨ examples, ones that have had large impacts on Tumblr history, and any personal blorbos 💖
(NEW 9/20) I did say whatever criteria, but I do feel like I should address hate-voting. I'm not going to forbid it, but I ask that you consider if you really do hate the character/fandom that much. For example, Oncelercest isn't my cup of tea by any means, but man.... you gotta hand it to him.....
I love passionate (and even sometimes violent) propaganda, but do NOT bully anyone or send targeted threats. If it's getting nasty out there, I might use my judgement to adjust this rule, but I hope I won't have to.
Please feel free to spread this submission list! Tagging some of my inspirations: @ao3topshipsbracket @who-do-i-know-this-man @stop-spreading-this-poll @masked-character-competition @bestadaptationtournament @ultimate-anime-tournament @unlikely-adversaries-bracket @top-fictional-unhinged-women @mosthomoeroticenemies @bestfictionaldivorce @controversial-blorbo-bracket @tournament-winners-tournament @the-most-character-i-ever-saw :)
From my end, I really appreciated how @controversial-blorbo-bracket ran their tournament, so I'll try to follow their lead: be open and transparent, give people who are writing propaganda the benefit of the doubt where possible, and try to take passionate takes in stride.
(NEW 9/24) Constructive crit or feedback in good faith is appreciated! I want to make this a space for celebration of fandom

The Mosley Review: Inside Out 2

I don't really say this too often and especially nowadays. We are witnessing something truly special. I was born in 1987 and as a true 90's child, I had the privilege of growing up with family films that both in animation and live action, were fearless in their depiction of the trials we go through growing up. The discovery of how ones body is changing and all the emotional turmoil that comes with. Finding the confidence in your decisions or having pure fear of not fitting in and trying to be cool enough to be noticed and respected. Honestly, that's all just middle school and the first year of high school. Films and shows like The Neverending Story and Freaks and Geeks are just an example of the vast amount of growth one can go through. Those type of films went away after while and now they are slowly starting to come back and Pixar has been the spearhead for those stories in animation. The first film in this now franchise was a burst of brilliance and cut deep into the core of us all that went through the search for balance between joy and sadness and all that came with it. This film continues that with the next stage in growth and the film nails how the new emotions that come with puberty can control you if unchecked. There are so many layers in this film that I don't want to spoil, but I related to every bit of the expertly placed teen and adult humor. Every bit of this film was wonderful and a welcomed natural step forward.

Kensington Tallman was excellent as Riley and she nailed the pure joy and emotional weight that comes when entering your teens. She was funny, smart and vulnerable in the best way as her story progressed. Amy Poehler returns as Joy and she was just as wonderful and even more complex than before. Joy actually has an even harder challenge to her constantly positive nature and its wonderfully addressed. I've always loved her creativity and problem solving skills, but here she almost becomes part of the conflict in a excellent way. Phyllis Smith was awesome and fun once again as Sadness. The bond between her and Joy is stronger and I loved that she was more game to try and help. Liza Lapira was fantastic as Disgust and liked that she wasn't as dismissive of everything this time. Tony Hale was really fun as Fear and he was shockingly more creative and pragmatic this time around. He was almost the saving grace in many situations. Lewis Black returns as Anger and he was as intense and the major scene stealer you'd expect. He gets to have another iconic moment mid way through the film and I couldn't stop laughing. All the core emotions are fantastic and I loved how they had to navigate dealing with the new emotions that Riley has developed.

Maya Hawke takes the lead as Anxiety and the level of stress she delivers to each decision she makes for Riley was expertly delivered and relatable. The message behind her character was loud, clear and a great lesson on letting yourself relax and not let anxiety control you. The rivalry between her and Joy was so heartbreaking and exciting to witness as they both have a similar goal and yet you see the destructive nature of both if not regulated. Ayo Edebiri was great as Envy and she had an equal amount of standout moments when dealing with Riley wanting to be excepted by her new friends. Adèle Exarchopoulos was fun as the bored French Gen Z inspired Ennui. She cracked me up once she was on screen and how connected to her phone she was. Paul Walter Hauser was excellent as Embarrassment and I liked that he became the MVP of the new group. The moments of shyness and awkward interactions were worth it for the equal moments of heartfelt defiance of expectation. There were other characters that weren't emotions, but they still represented the likes of Riley and fill the gap that a certain character left from the previous film. Ron Funches as Bloofy was a great addition as a cross between Blue's Clues and Dora the Explorer. He had the perfect amount of hilarious 4th wall breaking. James Austin Johnson was hilarious as his companion, Pouchy. He was a great help to the original core emotions and I loved his scene the most with Anger. Now the one that nearly stole the film was Yong Yea as Lance Slashblade. He was perfect as the Final Fantasy / Soul Caliber inspired character that was so heroic and yet tragic. The animation on him was spot on and I loved every second he was on screen.

The score by composer Andrea Datzman was excellent and I loved how she made the film feel more epic this time around with more emphasis on edgier tones with guitar riffs and big bombastic percussion. She nails the quieter moments and the most intense anxiety driven moment of the film that we can all relate to. The use of Michael Giacchino's original theme was beautifully woven in at the right moments and didn't overtake Andrea's work. Visually, this film is up there with Pixar's best looking films like Toy Story 3, Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. I have truly been missing the magic of Pixar's storytelling for quite some time and this film brought it all back. Toy Story was my generations perfect coming of age story and now, Inside Out will be that same experience for this generation and I can't wait to see where Riley goes next. Let me know what you thought of the film or my review in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

The Creators of Stranger Things on the Movies and Shows They Grew Up Watching
BY PATRICIA GARCIA
August 9, 2016
Like most people with a pulse, you’ve probably watched Stranger Things by now, aka Netflix’s runaway summer hit. Part of the appeal of the show, which follows a series of supernatural events that occur in a small Midwestern town during the ’80s, is that Stranger Things recalls several iconic movies from the same era. The starring gang of kids would’ve seemed right at home in The Goonies; the mysterious creature that terrorizes the townies looks similar to Ridley Scott’s Alien; there’s even a blonde wig recalling that classic scene from E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.
This all makes sense when you learn that the creators of Stranger Things, twin brothers Matt and and Ross Duffer, were born in the mid-’80s. So heavily influenced were they by the big directors of their time (Spielberg, Scott, Carpenter) that throughout the show, they’ve scattered tributes to the era’s films. We emailed the Duffers and asked them to share the films and TV shows that left a lasting impact on them. Below, some of the throwback references from the minds of the Duffer brothers.
If you could take only three movies with you to a desert island, which ones would they be? The Empire Strikes Back, Back to the Future, and Heat. They’re just endlessly re-watchable. We would also try to “sneak” in the criminally underrated Sneakers.
What was the scariest movie you saw when you were a kid? The It miniseries. Pennywise is the most terrifying villain of all time. Special mentions go to: Return to Oz (the Wheelers!) and The Peanut Butter Solution (Google it!).
Which movie character did you wish you could be growing up? Indiana Jones.
Who was your fictional TV/film crush growing up? Joey from Dawson’s Creek.
What movie posters did you have hanging in your room? Scream, The Matrix, The Evil Dead, 12 Monkeys, Saving Private Ryan.
Did you ever watch an R-rated movie that you weren’t allowed to? Too many to list. In the sixth grade, we convinced our mom to rent us the “unrated” The Evil Dead by telling her Leonard Maltin’s Movie Guide listed the content as “PG-13.” (For the record, this was a lie—The Evil Dead is NC-17.)
What were some of your favorite TV shows growing up? The X-Files, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Freaks and Geeks.
Have there been any ’80s or ’90s reboots you’ve enjoyed? Mad Max: Fury Road. Obsessed.

Do all of the hockey houses fit 5? Do you think Kienan-Luca-Gavin-Seamus-(one of) Tyler Duke/TJ Hughes live together?
the two iconic houses appear to fit four. the working theory is that kienan is the fourth with phil/holtzy/truss, luca/gavin/johnny (rip?) are together in the other one (fourth bedroom still unknown). duke jr. moved in with eddy/dylan/mark and there’s room for at least one more at that house, so it could be seamus or tj. or it could be a total curveball like rutger moving in with the freaks and geeks.
