Encountered your blog about Ichihime and I thoroughly enjoyed your post why they are an endgame couple, much like what Kubo planned.
I'm just an ordinary guy following Bleach and I never cared about ships but honestly, I felt Ichigo x Orihime more, not Ichigo x Rukia. There is just something between them that sometimes I cannot explain and yet, they complement each other. With Rukia though, Ichigo's dynamics with her is just friends that tend to bicker at times and that's not unique since Ichigo also bicker with his other friends.
IchiRuki stans were aiming for Rurouni Kenshin-like dynamics of Kenshin Himura and Kaoru Kamiya, who eventually fell in love but Kaoru tends to hit Kenshin at times when he makes her angry. I don't like that dynamic since it's pretty much 80's-90's anime cliche where the FL/LI tends to hit the ML/MC when he makes a mistake or acts like an ass. Sure, that's funny at times but it's kinda repetitive and good thing Kubo opted out of the cliche for its main romantic leads (IchigoxOrihime).
Anyways, I really felt bad for Kubo after learning how Pierrot screwed him up a lot but I know he's not the only one they screwed. Fortunately though, looks like Pierrot management has learned its lessons and they pretty much avoid screwing mangakas from their works. I'm pretty much okay with how TYBW arc is adapted into anime and I understand the need of some scenes from the manga to be cut (i.e. - Rukia butt scene (it has not character implication to Ichigo, Ichigo's blush there is just similar to how he blushed when he first saw Yoruichi's human form or peeking thru his fingers when Rangiku was trying to unbutton her shirt in order to convince him to let her stay in his room), that scene in the manga is just fluff). Now looking forward on how Kubo plans to adapt the rest of the arc.
Lastly, already clicked alert me for notifications on your latest posts.
I appreciate that, thank you :) It seems like a lot of new people have found my blog recently (either through love or hate hahah) and I'm assuming that's because the new anime episodes have made the fandom more active again, so that makes me happy!

Turns out it’s the second op that I love and remember well. But like…! Look how different in tone and genre it looks compared to the first one! Admittedly the anime had filler and dragged out the beginning? I actually liked reading Bleach. And ngl I probably rewatch this arc more than the actual beginning because it is more put together but… I also love the IchiRuki lol
Unfortunately I don’t get invested in the Orihime rescue mission the same way as this Rukia rescue mission. And I can see how ppl don’t like the repetitive nature of the plots. But I do feel like there are at least some differences. Like the emotional weight is different. Both of them “chose” to leave with the antagonists. But I feel like it was very different circumstances. It’s established Orihime has feelings for Ichigo. But I don’t feel it’s reciprocated. Ichigo wants to get her because she is a friend. For Rukia he feels like he owes her. And I feel like their bond it’s different from Orihime. He feels so strongly for her despite not knowing her for as long? But Rukia is also credited as being the one who “stopped the rain in his soul”. So like…!
But also Rukia was on a clock ro execution, Orihime was just a pawn and not in danger of being killed. They both left to protect Ichigo, and his friends. But Rukia left in front of his eyes and Orihime left secretly. I can understand Ichigo’s trauma and having lost ppl would make him sensitive to Orihime just leaving and not seeing it. But it was also way more clear for Rukia it was a lot more targeted to Icjigo. The others weren’t close to her like he was. They were helping for Ichigo. For Orihime they all had a vested interest in getting her back.
I’m already rambling but as I said I have a lot of feels for Bleach but especially IchiRuki.
Sugirandom: Yes, so the second opening does look more in-line with the genre of the show even though if I recall correctly Season 2 also had a ton of filler. It's interesting to read your explanation of the differences between Orihime's rescue mission and Rukia's. I don't remember if I ever saw both of them but I think if I did I also would be a lot more invested in Rukia's rescue. Even though Orihime does eventually get some kind of powers I think? I feel like she's more of a damsal in distress type of character and therefore didn't feel that invested. I do feel like Ichigo only views Orihime as a friend and that Rukia had a substantial impact on his life in many ways.
Skipping the second op for the rescuing Rukia part of the arc, and the two filler op’s? (You can get whiplash from op’s being high action and fast passed and dramatic/angsty, or more happy and slice of life feeling. I think this following one was for when they went to rescue Orihime (I’m not a big fan of the visuals or music)
youtube
I wasn’t a big fan of the above opening 6. But opening 7 is also one of my faves (I also just love Asian Kung-Fu Generation) Still rescuing her. But I also wanna admit I couldn’t finish watching or reading all of this arc despite it’s importance to the lore. It felt too dragged out and it only made me dislike Orihime more rhan before. Whereas for the Rukia mission I grew to like her more. I mostly waited until this arc was over and watched the final battle because I heard what happened. I didn’t come back to Bleach until the Fullbringer Arc which I don’t recall when that happened in the timelime
youtube
Sugirandom: Ahh, Opening 6 definitely gives off more IchigoXOrihime vibes and I'm not really a huge fan of the animal companions lip-syncing lol. Opening 7 is much better but I'm also bias in liking Asian Kung-fu Generation. Thanks for sharing these and sorry it too so long to post my responses.

Whom do you ship: ichigoxorihime or ichigoxrukia??
I think ichirukia. I just feel like it's so much more organic and not forced.

Sooo....
I commissioned a piece back in December from the amazing, wonderful, talented and absolutely incredible @fire-in-the-starry-sky because I was toying with the idea of creating a new story. Needless to say, I never got around to posting that story for Christmas and so then I thought to myself, ‘Self, why don’t you take some time over the next couple of months and get it ready to post around Tanabata/Christmas in July and then that will give you a HUGE opportunity to work out some of the kinks in the story? Great plan, Self, so let’s go with that.’ Again, it should be very obvious to most that my plan went precisely in the opposite direction...
Anyway, I’m posting the picture she drew below and hoping to get the first part of the story posted before the end of today. There’s likely going to be a few installations and I’m not even entirely positive on the title yet, so yeah. It’s business as per usual with me.
I couldn’t be happier with the picture and was completely selfish for not posting it sooner...but @fire-in-the-starry-sky is too great of an artist not to share the amazing work that she does. I also just wanted to bask in the glory of it for as long as possible because she drew it to perfection and beyond my wildest imaginings. I just hope whatever I write lives up to this beautiful piece of artwork.
Stay tuned!

Orihimes power manipulates time and existence itself. Ichigo’s bankai broke? Just fix it. Ishida lost his powers? Just fix it. Hyourinmaru broke? Just fix it. Yamamoto lost his arm? Just fix it. Hinamori “dies”? Just fix it. Gin dies? Just fix it. STILL SHE DID NOTHING BECAUSE EVEN WITH THAT “POWERSET” SHES USELESS

I can imagine Rukia and Renji
Make little bets to see when Ichigo confess his love for Orihime, the prize is a little chappy. Chad and Ishida join as well for the bet, but were taken by surprise when Renji decided to give a little push to ichigo. Chad is very happy with the little chappy...

Tale of the Knight’s Christmas Angel: Part 1
Okay, okay. So, this first part doesn’t get to Ichigo and Orihime yet and I’m not completely satisfied at this point with what I’ve done, but I HAVE to get to sleep tonight and get up in the morning early, so...here’s the best I’ve got. I’ll mull it over tomorrow and see if I can keep moving in this direction or need to start over from scratch...
“How much longer?” “Can you see anything through the keyhole?” “Ouch! You stepped on my foot!” “I’m bored…”
A chorus of hushed whispers from children standing in the hallway outside the ballroom were becoming more and more petulant as time wore on. ‘Holiday cheer’ was gradually declining the longer they had to wait for the most anticipated portion of the evening’s festivities to begin.
Standing slightly off to the side, Ichika looked over at her companion, Nemuri, and said, “One might think they’d never celebrated Christmas before, the way they’re acting.”
Pushing a loose strand of hair back beneath her maid’s cap, Nemuri replied deferentially, “Yes, Miss.”
Giving the young servant, who also happened to be her closest friend as they had grown up alongside each other, a sidelong look, Ichika said, “Oh please, Riri, no one’s paying any attention right now, so you don’t have to be so formal.”
Before the other girl had time to reply, a voice called out from behind the doors, “Welcome to Christmas!”
The ballroom doors opened and the sight of the Christmas tree lit up with seemingly hundreds of candles whose soft, flickering light filled the entire room and the opulent, yet tasteful, decorations in an almost heavenly glow Ichika could barely repress her squeal of delight, but being thirteen years old and practically a young lady in the eyes of the adult guests. Her younger relatives, however, had no such desire or need to hide their enthusiasm and all but sprinted over to the tree, their attention entirely focused on the splendidly wrapped packages piled around and under the tree. Said packages were efficiently distributed and the colorful paper enclosing them was just as swiftly torn asunder to reveal the entracing objects inside.
Glancing around the room, Ichika easily caught sight of her uncle and father who each towered a good head or so above the other adults. While her mother was mostly certainly shorter than most everyone, including a few of the younger guests, it wasn’t difficult to guess that the hostess would be in the same vicinity as the aforementioned gentlemen.
As she approached, her Uncle Byakuya turned in her direction first and said in a low rumble, “Good evening, niece. Have you located your gifts yet?”
Smiling in a way that clearly displayed her genteel upbringing while still being completely natural and sincere, Ichika gave her uncle her most graceful curtsey as she replied, “In a while, Uncle Byakuya. Is there anyway I can be of help with the guests?”
While her uncle gave Ichika an approving look and the barest hint of a smile, her father ran a hand through his hair and laughed as he said, “Who are you and what have you done with my daughter? Last I knew she was still my little girl, but you…” he reached down to brush the back of his fingers along her cheekbone in a familiar gesture of affection, “...you’re quite the young lady.”
Noting just a hint of sadness in her father’s eyes at his last statement, Ichika scrunched up her nose and whispered conspiratorially, “Well, this young lady will never be too old to challenge her old Papa to a good, old-fashioned snow fight.”
Before her father could reply in kind or her uncle interject in his coolest manner, Ichika’s mother cut in, saying, “Oh for heaven’s sake, Renji, don’t. And Ichika, you go and enjoy yourself. This night is for you to enjoy with the others.”
Grasping Ichika’s shoulder and pulling her gently aside, her mother said softly, “One can always enjoy the wonders of Christmas no matter how old they are, but I know I speak for your father and uncle when I say that we all want you to cherish this time while you are still young.”
A commotion from the front of the room stopped Ichika from being able to reply. When she turned to look, it took a moment before she realized that one final guest had just arrived, one whom she had not seen in quite some time and yet had no difficulty in remembering quite vividly.
Along with the rest of the children, Ichika clambered forward with a cry of, “Mr. Urahara!” and wondered what wonderful thing he might have brought with him on this, the most magical night of the year.

I'm rewatching Bleach to prep for TYBW and I forgot how much filler there was. Also I still stumped that IchigoXOrihime was endgame. Like I knew he couldn't end up with Byakuya like I wanted but I honestly thought it would be Rukia. I feels like that was the plan but Kubo changed his mind half way through. What do you think?
Generally, I'm not that much of an Ichigo/Orihime fan (absolutely zero shade to those who enjoy it, as always chase your bliss) but I do think that the Rukia/Renji thing was pretty obvious for the majority of the series. And it was honestly refreshing to see an MC & Female Side Character relationship like Ichigo and Rukia's that stayed platonic in the end.
Personally Ichigo's one of those shonen MC's where I feel like leaving him single with his romantic future just not really addressed would have sat better.

You can’t compare ChihayaxArata to IchigoxRukia. The latter was never going to happen because Kubo wanted them to just be close nakama, but ChihayaxArata seemed likely to happen in the end because they held mutual romantic feelings for each other or at least it seemed that way up until the final chapter. Plus the bond between IR is constantly highlighted due to being the main MCs, CA never got such dedication in the story. Arata isn’t even in Chihayas victory photo in the end so it feels like their bond is less than. I say this as someone that I shipped ArataxChihaya along with IchigoxOrihime that the comparison is just not it.
i'm not really trying to map them onto each other fact-to-fact though, the contextual circumstances are obv starkly different. i'm more interested in drawing a comparison on the basis of how fandom perceives a romantic relationship as being the ultimate and only testament to the strength of a bond between two people, and the lack of one being established between any two characters somehow implying that everything they've been through together is retroactively diminished in importance and value. it's true that ichigo and rukia are distinct in that they had no romantic feelings for each other, but what i find interesting is that people assumed they were meant to be simply by virtue of the depth of their relationship and importance to each other, as if a romance would be the only way in which to allow such depth of a relationship to culminate. them not ending up together didn't diminish their bond in any way. everything that they went through was still there and lent importance to how deeply they cared for and relied on each other. even kubo said it was a relationship that went beyond friendship, but people seemed to believe the only implied meaning of such a statement was to assume the bond was romantic, as if a platonic relationship couldn't maintain that level of depth in its own way
that's the crux of what i'm getting at with the comparison. i don't really agree that chihaya and arata's relationship is suddenly diminished in value bc they didn't end up together romantically, even if chihaya did have romantic feelings for him at one point. regardless of how those feelings shifted and changed on her part, arata remained a hugely important person in her life and their bond with and support of each other was heavily centered in the final arc of the manga. it's clear that bond will continue to strengthen as they support and challenge each other in their newfound positions as meijin and queen. i know people were upset about the final photograph but i personally think its implications were exaggerated, esp since shinobu wasn't in the photograph either. the focus of that photograph was chihaya's immediate support structure wrt her training. arata likely also took a photograph with his immediate support structure, inclusive of his family, his neighbors, his friends, and the people from his karuta society. those are distinct spheres in chihaya and arata's lives, but their lack of inclusion in them doesn't suddenly diminish the unique bond that they have with each other in a different context. people have different groups of friends and different relationships with people in their lives. i don't think we're supposed to suddenly take the fact that he's not in a picture as implying he means less when everything about the manga that came prior proves that's untrue. it feels like a really silly conclusion to make, and i would have said as much had the series concluded in the reverse with taichi being the person who was "left out". i don't think there's any benefit to perceiving relationships in this way and that's really my central gripe with the fandom in general
