2021 Year-End Fic Review

How many stories did you complete?

16 (probably 30 if you count Tumblr-exclusive drabbles). Not bad considering I was working on completing my grad applications for half the year.

What is your total word count for the year?

211251 words :elmofire:

What fandoms did you write in this year?

Ted Lasso, What We Do In The Shadows (TV), Top Gun, Top Gun: Maverick, Mission: Impossible, WandaVision.

Did you write more, less, or roughly about what you expected?

Way way more - over 100k of the words I wrote this year were for Ted Lasso, which I did not expect to get so into. The muse wants what it wants.

What’s your own favorite story of the year?

When I See Your Light Shine, the first story of my Bantrverse (in which Sam matches with Dani on Bantr, not Rebecca). I wrote all 18.6k of it in nine days and had an absolute blast doing so (and rambling with @brainrot-time about it).

What is your most underappreciated story of the year?

Falling Free, Landing Hard. I wrote it for @academicgangster for the Black is Beautiful exchange back in February, and though I didn’t expect it to attract much attention, I was still hoping it’d get a bigger reaction than it did - I think it’s one of the best fics I wrote this year.

Biggest fanfic-related disappointment of 2021?

This is only tangentially fanfic-related, but TG:M getting postponed Yet Again was a major blow creatively-speaking - I haven’t written anything substantial for TG or Icemav since September and probably won’t until the movie comes out, which is sad because I do miss writing my boys.

Biggest fanfic-related surprise of 2021?

The fact that WISYLS and my other Robisanya fics received any attention at all. I’m very used to being all alone in my rare pair canoes, but I’m beyond thrilled to have roped people into enjoying Robisanya alongside me.

Something you’re looking forward to working on in 2022?

More Ted Lasso fic, for sure. I’ve got a ton of ideas percolating, including but not limited to:

Sam/Dani fwbs au where Dani plays for Man City

I’m also looking forward to writing more of my Benji/Ethan Terminator AU, my Monica/Jimmy post-WandaVision fic, and more TG fics (Icemav and Goosecarole) if TG:M ever actually comes out.
