i love internalized homophobia that surges from a homophobic rhetoric to a religious identity. it’s wrong and all but it’s natural upon awakening. it’s a real thing. living in a conservative religious household where being queer or any of the sort is unethical, is a whole self discovery journey in itself. youve got expectations on you by those that brought u up which u believe you are forced to carry. but u believe u have failed those expectations because they don’t align with ur queer identity. you are an outcast—or atleast believe that you are because suddenly you are opposing the norms. you cannot carry on ‘normally’ because ur world has been turned upside down. you don’t even have the right environment to talk it out w anyone, it’s so isolating. finally, religious repentance. since, religion is what most ppl turn to when faced with problems. imagine believing u are the problem. hella scary and self-battering. it’s just pure denial from then on.
it brings u back to earth and really humbles u bc homophobic sociocultural norms especially derived from religion is so fucked.
i think this is why I absolutely adore the movie moothon cause bro is so real and this basically sums up half the movie for ya.
