This year, with half the world, including Europe, in the grips of massive temperature increases, wild fires, possible water shortage and crop failures, we had this statement from the UN.

‘Hottest July ever signals ‘era of global boiling has arrived’ says UN chief.. “Climate change is here. It is terrifying. And it is just the beginning,” said the UN chief, warning that the consequences are as clear as they are tragic: “children swept away by monsoon rains, families running from the flames (and) workers collapsing in scorching heat.”’ (UN.org: 27/07/23)

The UK government response has been all too predictable. Sunak has stated he is issuing “hundreds", yes hundreds, of new licenses for the extraction of oil and gas from around our shores. He is planning on curbing clean air measures in our cities, and has signalled he will abandon green policies that come at a cost to consumers. “Get rid of all green crap” seems to be the new Tory mantra. Votes, it seems, are of far greater importance than lives. I’m not sure how many people would rather save a few hundred pounds than see their children’s very existence threatened but there will undoubtedly be some. Lets hope they don’t live to regret it for all our sakes.

ALL YOU CAN EAT BOUDDHA d’Ian Lagarde : Poulpe Fiction

Une proposition assez radicale, surréaliste, quasi expérimentale. Un lieu d’abord, un tout-inclus dans les Caraïbes - mais présenté par le scénariste et réalisateur Ian Lagarde (qui signe son premier long métrage) comme un endroit étrange, voire lugubre. Relativement peu de dialogues, mais des ambiances sonores riches créées par Jean-Sébastien Beaudoin-Gagnon, Hans Laitres et l’oscarisé Sylvain Bellemare. 

La présence imposante de Ludovic Berthillot dans le rôle du gros Mike, dont l’appétit n’a d’égal que ses mystérieux pouvoirs. Différents employés du complexe hôtelier joués par Sylvio Arriola, Yaité Ruiz, David La Haye. Surtout, des images remarquablement composées par Lagarde et son directeur photo John Londono et adroitement agencées par le monteur Mathieu Grondin, qui utilise notamment des surimpressions pour créer des effets inusités.

Un film qui récompense la patience du spectateur par des moments fort mémorables, comme ces incroyable séquences avec le poulpe. Et que dire du troisième acte, avec la détérioration progressive des décors (du superbe travail de la directrice artistique Joëlle Peloquin), la tempête qui gronde, l’annonce d’un “changement d’administration”, le climat de fin du monde... Cette finale au son de la musique de Colin Stetson!

2018 est encore jeune, mais All You Can Eat Bouddha s’inscrit déjà comme une des oeuvres québécoises qui devraient marquer l’année.

Le RN arrive en tête avec 24% des voix, devant les listes LREM (22,5%), EELV (12,5%) et LR (8,5%), selon les estimations Harris Interactive-Epoka pour RTL et TF1-LCI. Suivent le PS (6,5%) et LFI (6,5%). Ces six partis envoient des élus au Parlement européen.

Un Rassemblement national (RN) grand vainqueur et des Républicains (LR) qui s’effondrent, sur fond de participation (50,4%) record. Comme en 2014, les électeurs ont placé le parti de Marine Le Pen en tête des élections européennes 2019, avec 24% des voix, selon les dernières estimations Harris Interactive-Epoka pour RTL et TF1-LCI. La liste de Jordan Bardella devrait donc envoyer le plus d’eurodéputés au Parlement européen (22 à 26, sur les 79 dévolus à la France).

Derrière, avec 22,5% des suffrages et 20 à 24 élus, la tête de liste La République en marche (LREM), Nathalie Loiseau, semble échouer dans son objectif de «battre» le RN. À gauche, Yannick Jadot et sa liste Europe Écologie-Les Verts (EELV) apparaissent comme la première force (12,5%, 11 à 14 élus). Une percée (+3 points par rapport à 2014) qui permettrait au parti écologiste de devancer Les Républicains (LR, ex-UMP). La liste de droite, menée par François-Xavier Bellamy, s’effondrerait à 8,5% et recueillerait 7 à 10 élus. Il s’agirait du pire résultat de la droite (RPR ou UMP) depuis les premières élections européennes au suffrage universel, en 1979.

LFI et le PS à égalité

Suivent, à égalité, la liste Parti socialiste (PS)-Place Publique-Nouvelle Donne, emmenée par Raphaël Glucksmann, donnée à 6,5% des voix (5 à 8 élus), et la France Insoumise (LFI) de Manon Aubry (6,5%, 5 à 8 élus). Un soulagement pour le PS, qui parvient à dépasser la barre fatidique des 5%, mais qui divise par trois son score de 2014 (16,88% des voix cumulées avec Nouvelle Donne). Un échec pour l’état-major de la France Insoumise, auquel les récents sondages laissaient espérer 9 à 10% des suffrages. Ces six listes (RN, LREM, EELV, LR, PS, LFI) envoient donc des élus au Parlement européen.

En queue de peloton, seules deux listes atteindraient la barre des 3%, qui ne suffit pas à faire élire des eurodéputés mais permet le remboursement des frais de campagne: Debout la France (DLF) de Nicolas Dupont-Aignan (3,5%) et Génération.s de Benoît Hamon (3%).

Ils devanceraient le Parti communiste (PCF) de Ian Brossat (2,5%), l’Union des démocrates et des indépendants (UDI) de Jean-Christophe Lagarde (2,5%), Urgence Écologie de Dominique Bourg (2%), l’Union populaire républicaine de François Asselineau (1%), Lutte Ouvrière de Nathalie Arthaud (0,5%), Les Patriotes de Florian Philippot (0,5%), l’Alliance Jaune de Francis Lalanne (0,5%).

Les 21 autres listes candidates à ce scrutin cumuleraient 3,5% des suffrages exprimés. Les bulletins blancs et nuls se chiffreraient quant à eux à 2,3%, pour une abstention totale autour de 49,6% des inscrits.

On pouvait s’interroger sur la pertinence de tenter de transposer la poésie écrite au grand écran, mais ce portrait d’Yves Boisvert parvient admirablement à être plus cinématographique que littéraire. Yan Giroux, qui signe son premier long métrage, rend pratiquement chaque plan étonnant, inspirant, stimulant via ses compositions visuelles élaborées avec le directeur photo Ian Lagarde, incluant plusieurs amples mouvements d’appareil. Ce film sur les aléas de la vocation d’artiste dispose par ailleurs de l’arme de moins en moins secrète qu’est Martin Dubreuil, un de nos meilleurs acteurs, qui brille en artiste à la dérive, poussé par le vent, comme un chien errant, pauvre, mais bon vivant malgré tout.
