currently reading - The Occult Roots of Nazism by Nicholas Goodricke-Clarke, although i kinda put it on hold right now because even though it's a very interesting subject matter, it's a very dense book for the attention span i have at the moment lmao

also it's not a book but i'm reading through the various documents from the french Helloween fanclub from the 90's i got from my dad, who was the secretary at the time. there's paperwork, fanzines, interviews, old merch ads, fanmail, etc. it's a really fascinating time capsule and i'm so grateful for the opportunity to access all these documents. as soon as the university opens again i'm scanning all of it. i'll translate and publish the interviews too, it's bound to catch the attention of some pumpkinheads out there.

currently watching - houseki no kuni, again. because it's just so good. i watched the dub this time and even though it's pretty good, the constant avoidance of pronouns is getting more and more awkward and it's absolute cowardice. just let the damn rocks be gnc !!

i'm also rewatching holly hollowtones's 7 hour sandwich stream, again. for the fourth time. it makes me really happy for some reason.

current obsession - i'm slowly getting back into the rhythm of getting invested in things again after a rough patch of time, brain-wise. for now there's nothing much going on and my days are kinda empty.

i started octopath 2 and it's great so far but i need the motivation to keep going. i still need to continue 13 sentinels. i guess the closest thing i have to an obsession right now is utena, since i watched adolescence of utena recently and fell back into the crazy whirlwind of analysis and interpretation. it's an incredible anime i love it so much. idk how long it will last but for now i guess it's the biggest thing in my life even though i got back into it very recently. i might rewatch the original series. or madoka, i fucking love madoka. or maybe princess tutu, i'm told it's like. utena-lite in terms of themes but turbo-utena in terms of meta-fuckery, so that's exciting !

WAIT WAIT WAIT i just thought of something i'm forever and always obsessed with : soulsov, @pallisia's upcoming visual novel. i'm so in love with the main characters loic (chill florist dad) and ysme (weird clown woman). i'm not at-ing them because i don't wanna bother them but definitely go check out their art and read their webcomic lady of the shard it's real good and not that long ok i'm done now

I'm tempted to go back and buy a Kyrum and White Kyrum figure to go with my Reshiram, Zekrom and Black Kyrum, but they're a bit more expensive so I'll wait till closer to the end of my trip

Replacement stylus for my DS Lite. It's even in the right colour.

iPod touch 5th(?) gen, 64GB. If it works I have a ¥2500 iPod touch with 64GB. If it doesn't, I have a ¥2500 paperweight.

Sprigatitto pouch. I realised quickly my wallet was not going to hold all my change. I have so many coins.

Pokemon Black. I only have White and Black 2 at home (no Reshiram), and I've played these games enough that it being in Japanese doesn't matter that much. Also it'd be good just for the collection y'know?

Picross 3D 2. saves me having to buy it off eBay. I'm uh, sure I'll figure it out on my own.

Project Mirai. Another one I wanted a physical copy of. again, saves me having to buy it off eBay.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Best of Type

Here we are again, my children. Best pokemon of generation 9, Scarlet and Violet.

As usual, these are not combat ratings. They’re not based on anything like battle viability. I just list them according to my personal favorites.

I’ve obviously got all time favorite pokemon. None have been yet ousted from their lofty positions at the top (although I will say that water is in the running), but this will consist only of pokemon introduced in Scarlet and Violet, potentially including regional variants.

Normal

Best new normal type is Lechonk. Just because of the name.

Fire

Best new fire type is Ceruledge. Just a badass lookin’ son of a gun. Close runner up for best of gen.

Water

No question. Quaquaval. My starter pokemon started out as Donald, after Donald Duck, but once he reached his final evolution I just had to rename him to Johnny Steps.

Quaquaval also happens to be my top favorite for the whole gen and may in fact unseat Greninja for my all time favorite water type. Depends on how much of a pain in the ass it will be to get an Ability Capsule.

Electric

Best new electric type is Bellibolt. Looks so silly. I love it.

Grass

Not terribly interested in the grass types this gen. I guess I’ll give it to Scovillain just for the novelty of a grass / fire type.

Ice 

Best new ice type goes to discount Gojira, Baxcalibur, the latest but far from greatest pseudo-legendary.

Fighting

Best new fighting type is Paldean Tauros. Because Tauros.

Poison

Best new poison type will go to Revaroom. It’s a car. And a pokemon. A pocarmon.

Ground

I suppose I could maybe put an asterisk on this one, since I only played Violet and there look to be some interesting ground types in Scarlet. So best new ground type goes to Ting-Lu*.

Flying

Best flying type is Squawkabilly. Just because.

Psychic

Best new psychic is Farigiraf. Because the alternative is a dung beetle and a dumb fish and an ostrich. Farigiraf is an evolution of a pokemon from ye olden dayes of Gen 2, Girafarig.

Bug

Not much in the way of quality bugs this gen. I guess I’ll give it to Lokix. No reason.

It’s either that or bend the rules and give it to my Scizor, Slash Fic.

Rock

It was close, but I gotta give this to MechaGodzilla-lite. Iron Thorns, the robot Tyrannitar. I always liked Tyranitar, and it seems someone in the future agreed with me since they based a robot on him.

Ghost

Best new ghost type is Annihilape. Because Annihilape.

Dragon

Best new dragon type. Based just on looks I gotta give it to Roaring Moon, the new ancient version of Salamence. I almost bought Scarlet just for him, but I just couldn’t pass on Ceruledge.

Dark

DOGGY DOGGY DOGGY! Best new dark type is Mabosstiff. How can you say you have a heart and not pick the pupper?

Steel

Best new steel type goes to Tinkaton. A wee tiny pokemon with a big hammer.

Fairy

DOGGY DOGGY DOGGY! Take 2. Best new fairy type has to be Fidough and its evolution Daschbun. Another stupid pokemon that I love because of how stupid they are.

there was this spot behind her dorm that ida loved to disappear into sometimes. it was tucked in a spot of grass with the brick walls of the building surrounding her on three sides. you could disappear in it, great place to read, or smoke, or fuck if you were that adventurous. 

but today ida had propped up her phone on a little tripod, keeping it low to the ground as she hit record and scooted back, admiring herself in the picture reflecting back as she sat on the ground. she paused a moment before she reached forward to pull out a can of miller lite and hold it up to the camera before tossing it into her lap. fingers pulled at her top, straightened her hair that was tucked neatly behind her ears and they eventually stilled as she pulled one leg toward her chest, cheesing at the camera. 

“well hello there ogden of the future! i hope y’all have everythin’ we’ve ever dreamed of, flyin’ cars, clean air, equality.” she smiled, resting her chin on her knee now. “and that y’all ain’t in a parable of the sower type world, cause if that’s the case...y’all ain’t gonna get much from lil ole me.” ida winked now, trying to remain easy-going on the screen. “or maybe i’ll still be there and my seventy-three year old self is watchin’ this right now, if so how do ya do ms. ida may clarke. hope you got all you wanted. and never what you deserved.” she laughed again, though she knew that would be the case. ida was going to make sure of that much. 

“anywho, uh...shit’s kinda crazy here. but y’all probably got even crazier shit goin on. it ain’t no pissin’ contest.” she waved her hand as if to brush the thoughts aside. “but here’s what i gotta say and you better listen now, i ain’t gonna repeat myself.” this time she pointed at the camera, her finger wagging at them. “this place ain’t your friend, but make you some friends while you’re here. trust your gut, it’s the only one you got and it ain’t gonna steer you wrong. study when you need to, party when you can. learn to cook your favorite meal. smile at strangers, kiss hot people, call your momma.” she listed quite animatedly, the smile never slipping. “and a piece of advice specially from my diddy. he’s not a college boy but he’s lived a life. one, life is too short for shitty beer so drink what you like. and always remember this - it’s never too hot for chili, never too cold for ice cream, and never too early for a beer.” with a wink she cheersed the camera with her beer before taking out her keys. delicately she cut a hole in the side brought it to her mouth and proceeded to shotgun it on camera. a moment later she finished and tossed it to the side with a winning grin. ida now shifted so she was on all fours staring at the camera as she moved to turn it off. “and that’s all folks, have fun here.” with a thrown up peace sign and last smile, she ended the recording and sat back against the brick, her right thumb nail coming to her mouth as she hit to play to rewatch it over a few times.

Hi, Doly! I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!

It’s definitely my longest save! I’ve not played it in awhile though! But I do love my house in it from what I can remember. As you said, cheers to shit memory, I truly forget things so often and easily. It can be a bit frustrating. I love a lot of games! I tend to really like story based games but usually I’ve not played them but watched creators play them because I don’t/didn’t have the consoles to play them! Like I really enjoyed watching people play Firewatch, it’s such a beautiful game and I liked the story. I also like games like Until Dawn and The Quarry! I think decision based games like that are very fun especially when you have to make quick decisions and it effects your story. I have a switch lite so I tend to play just stardew, Minecraft and animal crossing because I feel like a lot of the games I’ve listed aren’t great to play on switch annnd I’ve got pretty bad drift. Other games I’ve watched people play that I enjoyed were: It Takes Two, A Way Out, Twelve Minutes also a classic The Last Of Us and so many more I just can’t remember them rn! What games do you tend to enjoy?

You definitely have to show me when we get the chance, I’d love to see! I don’t think I have a collection of like one singular character or anything like that. I think I just collect weird knickknacks and vinyl honestly! But I do want to collect more things, I almost started collecting carebear memorabilia earlier this year!

I’m very excited for Niall’s new album and I’m also very excited for his friend Lewis Capaldi’s new album next year!

I hope it’s feeling like the holidays where you are, unfortunately for me the weather makes it hard to feel like it’s even winter! It was 81F today!!! That’s outrageous for December! But I did recently help decorate the house for Christmas which was very nice, it’s the first time my family has put up a tree in like six years! I have my own mini one but it’s nice having a big one. Have you decorated for the Christmas holiday if you celebrate?

What does your dream home look like? I think mine would be like a house from the 70s I just loved the aesthetics. I would kill to have some kind of conversation pit in my home and I’d have a whole area for my record player set up and I lose my mind when I see houses that have atriums!! How cool is that?! I think it would be filled with posters, knickknacks, rugs, blankets and just weird stuff! Also mid century is very good too if done right, I hate when people flip older homes, they get rid of the character and style and turn it into a boring all white like chic farmhouse and it’s just awful to me.

Do you think different types/brands of water taste different? I definitely think they do!!

What’s your favorite snack? I tend to like any kind of hot chips and I’m not the biggest sweets kinda person I think? I like very specific sweet stuff! I’m more of a spicy/salty snack person than a sweets one.

What’s a weird side of YouTube you think you’re on sometimes? For me, my dad and I fell down this weird hole of this guy exploring abandoned homes in Canada? It’s truly amazing to me because some are what he calls time capsules where people have just left everything behind and others are very expensive homes left behind and a lot of the time I think what happened? Why did they up and leave? But most of the time I’m just in awe of some of the houses and the stuff left behind like family photos in some! Also I just enjoy seeing weird/extravagant homes completely empty.

Are you the kind of person that needs something on to fall asleep, or nothing at all on ooorrr can you do both? I think I always need something on. My go to sleep aid sound is harsh rain on a window, I swear I could sleep through a hurricane the way I sleep though the rain. I tend to fall asleep with something on the tv.

We are literally the same person when it comes to video games and idk how to take that lol. Love that for us!! I tend to watch other “let’s players” play the really well know games on pc/console cause I just don’t have the skill/patience to learn such skill to play them!! Plus, I find it more enjoyably to just sit back and watch them go through the struggles of the game rather myself raging through it 😅. I remember back when Markiplier played firewatch and I was just in utter awe of the aesthetic/story of the game!! I have to rewatch him play it sometime! Some of the games I’ve watched that I absolutely loved have to be God of War, Resident Evil franchise, The Last Guardian, Papers Please, Cuphead, Little Nightmares, Undertale, The Last of Us, the list truly goes on!! Decision-based/fast-paced games are my bread and butter!! I feel strongly on the “early pc strategy/time-management games (dinner dash or equivalent) to farming games” pipeline to be very strong lol. If it has any of those premises, I’m all in 100%!! I’m also a huge fan of the Pokémon franchise and their games, so I’d say I fall into that as well. I’m open to all games within that particular category.

81°F?!?? Oh my! The highest in my area today had to have been maybe ~50°F. Because I live in the northeast, I find that to be relatively warm in comparison to what I’m used to for the colder months. Hopefully you’re finding ways to stay cool in the heat! And yes, I did decorate for Christmas!! Not as much as years prior cause my parents and I are headed down to Puerto Rico for the holidays!! I do celebrate Christmas, but not necessarily in a religious way. We do participate in the gift-giving aspect and getting together and all that, but that’s relatively it.

Speed Round Answer!! Dream home? For as long as I can remember, I’ve lived within the city! And while I have a love/hate relationship with that, I would love to be able to live in a rural area and, just, have my own space. I don’t have any particular look that I’m looking for in a house, just as long as I have a room that I can convert into an art studio!! I would also love to have a proper vinyl setup where I can play/display my records comfortably!! And maybe a decent sized yard for the pets to run around and enjoy themselves!! Does water taste different? Oh, absolutely 100%!! I am a Dasani hater lol. Dasani tastes like sink water!! Smart water, in my opinion, is the best!! But in all reality, water tastes like water. I tend to buy the generic store-brand bottles of water and I don’t have any complaints about it lol. I would just rather drink sink water than Dasani!! Fav. snack? I tend to lean more to sweets when it comes to snacks, but also depends on the mood I’m in!! I really enjoy those Chex Mix bags that are cookies and cream flavored that you can get at gas stations or wawa/sheetz (idk what the equivalent would be in your area if you don’t have either of these franchises lol). I don’t get them often, but I would say that!! In terms of salty snacks, I’m a basic person and either pick up a bag of Cheetos Puffs or Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream chips 😬. Weird side of YouTube? Hmmmm.. lately, I’ve fallen on the side of YouTube where people explain the complexities/obscurities of very niche topics. Like, the other day, I found this YouTuber who talked about the lore of Martha Speaks/Word Girl. Another one was the rise/downfall of club penguin and rating very obscure movies/books they’ve read. It’s great, honestly! I recommend it lol. Sleep Habits? I feel like I can fall asleep relatively quickly, but I can’t sleep without the fan being on or else I feel like my body is static. Sleeping in utter silence is my villain origin story!! It also has to be almost completely dark! I used to be able to sleep with the tv on, but even that has to be off. Someone can be calling my name and I won’t budge, but once the sunlight or anything like that brightens the room, I’m up!! 🎄✨

REDOING THE CHRONICLES IN SPACETIME MASTERPOST BECAUSE I MESSED UP LAST TIME

Chronicles in Spacetime (or CIST as I usually abbreviate it) is a story that takes place across all of time and space, hence the name. It follows the adventures of a young Timelord by the name of Gilligan, who travels across the cosmos in a salvaged TARDIS. During his journeys, he learns more and more about the Time War that ripped his life apart, as well as more about himself.

As the greatest conflict in the universe’s history hit Gallifrey, Gill escaped in a Type 56 TT Capsule and left as his world disappeared seemingly permanently. Ever since then, he’s been trying to find a place where he fits in, to little avail.

As time went on, he started hearing whispers among passersby of the fate of the vanished Doctor, the last hope of the universe. He was assumed dead, gone with Gallifrey and the rest of the Timelords. So he took it in his own stride to do the right thing where the Doctor could not, solving problems and ending conflict anywhere he could, no matter the cost, in his own unique way.

ALLIES, FRIENDS & COMPANIONS

Elliott: Small, 13 year-old Kobron kid. His family is the richest in the Geode. When Gill meets him, he's rather uptight, rude, and struggles to resist pinching a few pennies here and there. Despite all of this, he shows over time that he still has the desire to make moral choices. He can't stand to see anyone suffering, and will do what he can to help out where he can.

Aster: Tall, early-20's Multeth woman. Works a packing job for the Geode's local delivery service. After a lifelong aspiration to be a legendary athlete went down like a lead balloon, she decided that using her great agility to carry packages was the next best thing. She has an incredibly strong sense of justice, and will protect those she cares about to the final breath.

Solus: Early-20's Purikett woman. Studying in med school, they dabble in tinkering as well, making simple devices and contraptions to give to their girlfriend, Aster. She's witty and clever, and she's also very passionate about what she does. As a med school student, she also has learned to live with less than four hours of sleep per night.

Aurora: 16 year-old Scerpenn girl. The Geode is not exactly known for its diverse wildlife, but Aurora still tries to keep in touch with it. She's a very wildlife-obsessed person, and considers herself to be a self-taught zoologist. In general, they're quite accepting and tolerant, and would rather judge people by the content of their character rather than anything else.

A "lite" model with no Chameleon Circuit whatsoever. Bigger on the inside, with a good bit of retro feel for the desktop. Can go anywhere in time and space, given the pilot is competent. With Gill, it kinda depends on his current state of mind. Despite being a slightly newer model, it's still a decently-old antique by the time Gill gets his grubby mitts on it.

BUT EVIL LURKS...

Of course, Gill has yet to learn the biggest lesson of all: even with an endearing backstory, or the strongest, most pure-hearted will, the universe generally fails to be a fairytale. The space operas you see on TV isn't always the norm. Sometimes, those who seem even the least harmful or murderous can turn out to be the most dangerous beings in the cosmos.

Keep on the lookout for anything that isn't what it seems. It might just save you your lives.
