ngl i lowkey hate how quite a bit of fandom has turned Basil into this 'uwu i'm so shy' character, when the book contradicts that entirely.
#'reserved' does not mean 'shy'#he gets shy around dorian sure but that's cause he likes him#i've made a post about this before but Dorian is very much an outlier in Basil's life#shy was the exception not the norm for bas#basil hallward#the picture of dorian gray#just a very not serious complaint#lighthearted#i'm not coming for anyone in particular this is a little pet peeve is all#i do think there is a thing where people will see a quieter character and turn them into a shy arctype just because#despite the fact it may throw out their actual characterization
