Character ask meme: Vanitas.

sorry for taking a bit to get to this but thank you for giving me the opportunity to talk about vanitas!!

First impression

uhhh i first played bbs in 2010 so i don't even remember at this point but i probably just thought he seemed like a cool villain! i was probably also really confused as to why he looked like sora went and spent every penny in his wallet at hot topic and dyed his hair black.

Impression now

i love him so much now!! i love the backstory the BBS novel gives him and i feel like his character has so much unexplored potential because he is a fun villain but he's also a being of pure darkness, who believes that a villain is all he can ever be unless he becomes part of ventus again and i just think that's really interesting because this is a series where puppets, replicas, and nobodies can become whole and characters like riku can use their darkness for good. i would gladly play a whole game, or even literally just a tiny little fragmentary passage-length section of a game, that's all about vanitas.

Favorite moment

hmm i am too indecisive to pick one favorite moment but i really like this one scene in the BBS novel (if you need an image ID for this just lmk and i'll copy it down!!):

i just love him standing up to xehanort and saying he refuses to suffer anymore for some plan that he couldn't care less about, that his situation isn't fair, that he shouldn't have to go through all this while ven just gets to sleep. it's just too bad that it leads to xehanort saying he can end his suffering if he forges the x-blade and then that leads to, well, everything else that happens to vanitas in the series.

Idea for a story

okay so remember how the whole reason vanitas is in monstropolis is because he's trying to collect negative emotions to recomplete his heart?? and then he confronted sora because he realized negative emotions weren't enough and he still needed ven? if i were a decent writer i'd have written a story years ago where all of that somehow leads to him realizing the same lesson the monsters themselves learned in the original movie: that positive emotions are stronger and more valuable than negative ones.

Unpopular opinion

this is one question i'm always bad at ajsjsjdjgkdk i'm not sure if i have any opinions that would be unpopular among other people who like vanitas tbh

Favorite relationship

in canon i love the relationship between him and ven but in fanon i absolutely love seeing him, namine, and repliku as a trio!!

Favorite headcanon

ages ago i saw a hc somewhere that since the unversed are made of vani's negative emotions, one of them disappears and can never be formed again each time he feels a positive emotion, and every so often i remember it again and get emotional thinking about it.
