trust me
max verstappen x reader | 2.3k
after an incredible (and wet) weekend in brazil, you have a confession to make.
cw: a loving relationship! discussion of anxiety/fear/worrying about your race car driver bf, healthy communication, and softness galore.
a/n: being a wag must be so stressful. like, damn! also, rain races stress me out, personally. this fic is about that.
__
The triple header comes to an end in the best way possible.
Max Verstappen wins the SĂŁo Paulo Grand Prix from a 17th-place start! It's the stuff of dreams. The fist around your heart unclenches just a little bit as you watch him smiling, roaring, hoisting his well-earned trophy aloft. It's your best day in a long time, watching your darling boyfriend like that, and you celebrate with everyone late into the night. The Championship battle looms in the background but tonight is about the hard work from the weekend. The stress, the frustration, the damn rain. All of it worth it for the pride you all feel right now.
But what comes after -- that, you can admit, you enjoy even more. Three weeks until Las Vegas and Max and the team have plenty of work to do before then, but for now? For now, it's this: rest.
Everyone gets to go home, finally. And for you, home is wherever Max is. You've spent the first few days of the break thus far at his place. On the floor with the cats, on the couch watching movies. In his bed, sleeping, sometimes, other times... not so much. Hours and hours just being together. You'll have plenty of time for this once the season ends but you can never get enough of him.
You're on the couch, sprawled across the length of it with a book in hand. It's a good one, so much so that you don't notice Max until he taps your ankle and you jump.
"Jesus," you gasp. His lips are pulled up at one corner in the precursor to a full grin, sweatpants slung low enough that you can see the branded band of his underwear between the drawstrings and the hem of his t-shirt. "Where did you come from?"
"Watching race replays," he says with a shrug. "Scooch." You tug your legs back and sit up a little, bookmarking your page as he rounds the couch and plops down where your feet were.
"Max," you whine. "I like to watch those, too. So you can do that thing where you narrate like, every second." You're teasing, but only a little. For all the jokes about "maxplaining," you really do love how he explains things. He tells you what he was thinking at every turn, what the trick is, how long it took him to get it right. He points out his mistakes and those of the other drivers. All of it thoroughly and with enthusiasm, answering your questions like you're the best student he's ever had.
"Yeah, well," he says, sinking into the couch, arm stretched across the cushions towards you. Your eyes rake over the line of his bicep as he talks. "You don't like rain races very much. Wasn't sure you'd want to see it again."
That gets your attention. "How did you know that?" You've never told him outright that they stress you out. It's really important to you that you keep your cool at the track, that you don't do anything to let on that he should worry about you.
But you should know better, it seems.
"I can tell," Max says, looking right at you. "I pay attention."
You hum, not sure what to say. "You've got me there," you confess. "I'm sorry."
"Hey," he tuts. "Why the apology? You can feel however you want to. This weekend was complicated."
He feels too far away. You set your book on the ground and shove your toes under this thigh. He keeps his eyes on your face but you fuss with the hem of your t-shirt rather than look back.
"They're exciting. Rain races, I mean." You sigh. "But I can't help but worry, Max. From the garage, it's so --"
You lose track of your words because Max grabs hold of your legs and tugs them over his thighs as he moves closer to you, almost crowding you against the arm of the couch. He reaches for your collarbone to pick some lint from your shirt, his other arm slung across your calves.
"Were you scared?" he asks. "This weekend, I mean."
Frankly, you avoid telling him things like this because you don't want to distract him. You don't want to detract from his performance in any way and maybe that's selfish, because you know he's very good at what he does and how you feel isn't going to derail his weekend. But you know he loves you, and you know how deeply he feels things. How much he wants to be a good partner, a good driver, a good man. And you try really hard to let him know that he is all of those things.
The reality of your position in his life is that there will always be people who heavily imply that your presence, your actions, your choices could be at fault. It's ludicrous -- Max has said so many times -- but it makes you hype-aware. You don't want to overstep. It's something you know you should articulate to him properly, but you know he'll be upset that you think you can be anything but a good part of his life. It's an endless cycle.
"Hey," he says, mistaking your silence for emotion. "Liefje, I'm fine." He reaches for you, cupping your cheek with a warm hand. You look up at him and find him frowning.
"I know," you say, leaning into his palm. "I know you are. I just -- I don't want it to sound like I'm a whining baby or something."
"Whining baby?" Max gently rubs the skin under your eye with his thumb. "Psh. We've got some of those on track. You couldn't come close to them if you tried."
That gets a laugh out of you and he cracks a smile at the small victory.
You sigh. "I was scared," you admit, voice soft. Max presses a little closer to you, his hand falling from your face to catch yours, fingers twining together.
"Are you always scared?" he asks. "You're more tense on rain weekends, I can tell that much. But you've never really talked about this. I guess I--" He frowns again. "I've never really asked you."
"That's okay," you say. "It's nothing, really."
Blue eyes bore into yours. "No, I want to know," he presses. "Please, tell me?"
You tip your head back a little, eyes on the ceiling. How to say it?
"I guess I'm always a little scared, yeah," you say. "I don't know how I wouldn't be."
He tugs on your hand so you'll look at him. "What is it, do you think?" The question comes out in his typical way. This must be how he is in driver briefings, you think fleetingly. Max is analytical, methodical, always looking for the root of the problem so he can understand it and adapt.
But how do you explain this?
"Well, it's a dangerous sport," you explain. "As you know. And I -- Max, I love you, and I don't want anything bad to happen to you."
The furrow of his brow lessens a bit and he presses a light kiss to the back of your hand. Your stomach flutters, even after all this time.
But Max has no time for your mooning, apparently. "Were you scared before we knew each other?" he asks.
You think about it. "It's different, I guess. I was worried, generally. For all of you. I'm still worried for all of you, but --"
His eyebrow quirks and he fails to hide a cheeky smile. "Me the most?"
You roll your eyes and squeeze his hand. "You the most. But don't tell Carlos that."
Max tuts. "So, now it's just worse? You feel it more?"
Nodding, you try to explain. "I don't even like watching on TV, now, because I'm so far away. I feel so helpless."
You can't make it to every race but you try your hardest, not only to support Max but for your own sanity. It's easier to calm yourself down when you're around other people who believe in him, when you have access to all the details and when he's only a few steps away when he's out of the car.
"I don't want you to be worried," he says, softly. "You don't let on that you are when we say goodbye before the race, aside from being a little tense."
One of your favorite pieces of race weekends -- those few moments when all of his attention is on you. He makes sure you have everything you need and leaves you with a kiss and a smile and a see you later. His confidence and his competence are like balms.
"When I'm looking at you, I'm not as stressed," you say, a bit shy. "You're very good at your job, you know. And your confidence is convincing."
"I know," he says, seriously. "That's why I know it'll be fine. Do you not know that?"
If he was less determined, you'd ask him to drop it, since you're starting to feel embarrassed. But you know he won't let it lie.
"I know it, too, Max." You reach for his face to push back some fringe from his forehead. "I'll always be worried about you, though. You get in the car and drive away and I just -- sit there. And wait for you to come back."
He frowns, deeper this time. You keep your hand on him, cupping his jaw and running your thumb along his stubble.
"And I love it. You know I was a fan before I met you and it's a dream to be there to watch you race. I love seeing you do crazy things like win from p17. It's so much fun."
He knows this about you. You've got a bit of a reputation for your facial expressions in the Red Bull garage, always the first on your feet when he overtakes, jumping up and down when he extends his lead. It's an infectious kind of joy and energy and you lean into it every time, even if your stomach is churning with anxiety.
Max is quiet for a few moments. He covers your hand with his and leans into it further.
"You trust me, right?"
"Of course," you say right away. "Always."
"I've never really thought about it," he says, slowly. "I mean, in the car. I don't worry about you because I'm not worried, so I just thought you knew not to be, too."
"I'll always worry, Max. Even though I trust you."
"Why didn't you tell me this before?"
Your cheeks heat and you look away from him, pulling your hand free to cradle it in your lap.
"You've got a million other things to worry about besides me," you say. "I don't want to distract you."
Max says your name with a scoff, literally waving his hand as if swatting away your silly notions. "Distract me? Come on," he says. "I wouldn't be a three-time world champion if I could get so easily distracted." He leans into your space, nosing at your jaw. "Even if you are very distracting."
You allow the attention for a few moments before pushing him back with a laugh. His cheeks are flushed, hair a bit of a mess, like after he takes off his helmet. And, god, he looks relaxed. You're so proud of him you can hardly stand it. The season is almost over and you know he's got a lot of work ahead of him, and you've got a lot of worrying. But he's motivated, and you know he can win. You know he'll come back to you.
Max leans his head back on the couch and casts his gaze sideways at you, nose scrunched. "I can't fix this, can I? You're still going to worry."
He sounds so resigned, so disappointed in himself that you tug on his hand so he'll get closer. This time, you frame his face with your hands and kiss him, just a light press of your lips to his. Both of you sigh into it, and you drag your mouth along his cheek until you reach his ear.
"I'm still going to worry," you whisper. "But I love you and I trust you. And I know it'll be okay."
Max sighs and presses his forehead to your shoulder, practically pulling you into his lap so he can wrap his arms around you.
"You better hope it doesn't rain for the rest of the season," he mumbles.
"That damn VSC," you groan, pulling back from him a bit. "I was going to tear my hair out!"
Max laughs. "It kept things interesting," he says lightly. "Rain isn't really a problem for me, schatje, you know this --"
"Because you're Dutch, I know, Max." You roll your eyes. "Even Fernando couldn't keep it together! I mean, the gasps from the garage when --"
The seriousness of your conversation fades as you trade tidbits about the race -- you've done this already, hashed it out in the hotel room and the flight home and in bed since Sunday. Max watches you talk, elbow braced on the couch and his head resting in his hand. His eyes sparkle and you know you're amusing him as he corrects you on the turn names and who went in the wall when. Max loves you: you've never doubted this. He loves you and he cares about how you feel and doesn't want you to be worried.
And while you will be, because you love him, you know that it'll be alright.
"Hey," Max says, interrupting your opinions about start procedures. "I love you, okay? Thank you for worrying about me."
"Graag gedaan," you say. Well, you try to say. Max laughs and corrects your pronunciation. You're welcome, he says, over and over, a kiss to your cheeks, your nose, your forehead each time. Ik houd van je. Your lips, your neck, your jaw.
I love you. I love you. I love you.

Jason Todd x childhood friend fem
fluff and potential angst
Jason runs into childhood friend from befor he died and she recognizes him
Back in Time
[ Jason Todd x Childhood Best Friend!Reader ]
~ Fluff, Maybe a little hurt/comfort, WC: 1,089
~ I'm so sorry this took so long đ Every time I went to write this it's like all ideas flew out of my head, but I finally got it done and I hope it meets your expectations<3
"Jason?"
He freezes.
He wasn't expecting to hear your voice today.
He wasn't expecting to hear your voice ever again.
Once he came back, you were gone.
He would say he tried to look for you but that isn't true. He thought your leaving was the universe telling him to leave you alone.
But now you're here. You're here and you recognize him. He doesn't know how to respond. He knows you know he heard you, otherwise he wouldn't have stopped moving.
The first thing he hears in your voice is the sadness. Not anger like he would've expected. Not even a hint of confusion. Just something sad.
After a minute of him being unmoving, clearly lost in his thoughts, he felt a tap on his shoulder.
"Jason." You say.
This time it's not a question.
After he hears you a second time, he brings himself to turn around and look at you.
"Hey."
"Hey." He can't tell if you're about to cry or smile.
"I'm sorry." He immediately apologizes. Maybe for leaving or maybe for not finding you. He's not quite sure.
"For what?" You ask and take a deep breath.
He sees the way tears form in your eyes and has the strange urge to cry himself.
"I don't know. I just feel like I need to."
"You don't. Dick told me what happened. That's not something you need to be sorry for." You say it so surely he doesn't know how to respond.
"I was gonna find you."
"That's not your job. I mean a phone call would've been nice." You shrug and let out a small, awkward chuckle.
"I didn't know what to do." He tells you quietly.
"I would assume." You look around the sidewalk you're on. You're standing in front of what looks like a busy shop, people walk in and out every couple seconds.
"Where did you go?" He asks you after a moment. Probably to determine whether or not he could've found you.
"I was here. I mean I stayed in Gotham just not where I was before."
"If I had known you were so close I would've gone to you but when they told you left I assumed-"
"Jason, you don't have to defend yourself." You cut him off quickly, "If I died and came back the last thing on my list would be finding someone who left."
He nods. "This might be easier if you were at least a little mad." He smiles softly at you, watching more tears shine in your eyes.
"I missed you too much to be mad right now."
He goes to say something back but someone walking by bumps into your shoulder.
"Maybe we should get coffee or something?" He suggests, not wanting to keep blocking the sidewalk traffic.
"Are you free?"
"Oh yeah, yeah." Dick can wait, he thinks to himself.
"Then yeah, coffee sounds great."
You both walk into the coffee shop and order whatever drinks sound good. Jason chooses a table against the wall and by a giant window.
You sit awkwardly in silence as you both try and think of what to say.
"How are you doing?" You ask, after multiple minutes of nothing.
"I'm okay, I think." He shrugs and takes a sip of his drink. You take notice of his fingers tapping nervously along the side of the cup.
"That's good." You nod and sigh.
"How are you?"
"I've been better." You answer honestly. Your fingers also tap nervously along your cup.
"I'm sorry. I don't know why this is so weird."
You laugh at his words, "I do. It's been a while."
"And I'm guessing we've both changed." He smiles.
"Changed? No shit Jason, look at you." You smile at him in a reassuring way. You can clearly see how dying has changed him.
"Yeah I guess I did get a little taller." He jokes and shakes his head.
"Maybe just an inch or two." You play along, laughing as you speak.
"I missed this. I missed you." He tells you with a sudden seriousness in his tone.
"Well good thing it isn't going away this time." You reach across the table and grab his hand.
It was never unusual for you and Jason to be touchy. That's just the kinda friendship you had. But this feels different.
Instead of being a friendly touch between best friends, it's more like a reassurance that's he's actually alive. A piece of you feels relief that you're not imagining this.
"I really hope so." He wishes with a frown.
"It won't. If you think I'm leaving your side anytime soon you're very very wrong."
"What's one more person to the gang that follows me everywhere?" He laughs again and squeezes your hand. It's the first time he's felt so free to last in a while.
"Where is that gang by the way? I would've expected one of them to be here by now."
"Oh I left while they weren't looking. I needed time to myself."
"You snuck out? Jason, they're probably panicking." You scold him softly.
"It's fine I'm meeting with Dick later."
You shake your head in disapproval but a smile on your face gives you away once again.
For some reason no matter how sad you are, a smile can't leave your lips.
You fall back into a silence but this time it's not awkward at all. It's a comfortable silence that reminds you of old times.
"I should probably get going. Dick will be pissed if I'm late."
"Yeah I don't doubt it." You recall the many times Dick has given long lectures about being late to anything he's involved in.
"I'll call you." He swears, standing up from his seat at the table.
"You better. I know where to find you." You stand up as well and finish off your drink.
"Yes you do." He agrees but doesn't leave.
You stand together in front of your table. Both of you are waiting for the other to move first.
Just as you're about to make the move to leave he steps forward and pulls you into a hug.
You immediately hug back and feel the tears reappear in your eyes.
"I really missed you." He whispers.
"I really missed you too." You whisper back.
You savor every moment of the embrace. Not wanting to leave out of fear that he would leave again.
But as you watch him walk away to meet with his brother, you're overcome with the happiness of knowing your best friend is here.

How about Joshua with a s/o who always wears baggy clothes and doesnt feel attractive because she doesnt wear revealing ones ?
If u want to write it pls do it only if u are ok with it and feel inspired âĄâĄ

a/n: so sorry i took so long to write this!!

"hey, babe, have you seen my shirt? you know, the grey one with the loose neck? i thought i- oh."
"huh? what was that?", you asked as you took out an earbud, turning to look at the boy who'd been trying to call your attention.
chuckling, he rounded the kitchen island to reach your side, hands practically attaching to your waist like magnets as he aided you in removing the other earbud, placing both on the counter next to you.
"i was just wondering where my band tee went, but i think i have my answer," he chuckled, pressing a sweet peck to your temple.
"oh, fuck. sorry, josh. do you want it? i can go change," you went to disconnect from him, but he wasnt having it, instead nuzzling his head on your shoulder.
"hm. it smells of my cologne still," he said almost to himself, "you don't have to take it off. i like you in my clothes," he reassured.
you could only scoff.
"your clothes are baggy on me. just like all my other clothes. what difference does it really make?"
joshua shrugged, "just like knowing you're wearing something of mine. you're style's cute. you're cute."
"flattery will get you everywhere, hong," you laughed.
it was one of those nice, domestic moments that occurred every so often. you basked in it, enjoying it before the two of you went back to your regular days.
it wasn't until later that you started to think about what you'd said to joshua earlier.
you did have a tendency to wear baggier clothes. hell, there really was no difference between wearing something of his and a piece of your own. it was incredibly rare for you to show skin or any sort of silhouette, and those instances were really reserved for nights too warm to handle in which you had to opt for some shorts and a tank top.
but even then, you went for looser ensembles. clothes that showed your figure were never really your forte.
you couldn't help but wonder if this ever bothered josh. would he have preferred if your style varied more? what if he thought of you as a prude? maybe he-
"what's got you thinking so loud?", the boy in question interrupted your inner turmoil.
you hadn't realized as you sat in front of your vanity, face wash in hand and still unused, that you'd frozen in place as you thought. his presence in the restroom hadn't registered until he spoke.
"just, uh," you pondered as to whether or not to voice your concerns, but his compassionate smile reflecting on the mirror made you decide, "i was thinking that maybe you'd like it better if i dressed differently? you know, maybe show more skin?"
you voiced it as a question, insecurities building in you as you sought a direct expression of his preferences.
"are you kidding? i like how you dress. and it's not really something that bothers me. you're comfortable and you're beautiful. it's a win-win situation for me," he kind of chuckled as he spoke, finding your question very sudden and unnecessary.
"oh."
you felt a bit dumb now.
"has this been worrying you? you know i'm like obsessed with you, right? you could wear a trash bag and i'd still be as obsessed," he joked, closing in on you similarly to how he'd done earlier in the day.
he finished his statement with a kiss pressed to your lips, humming when you kissed back.
"this just gives me free reign of your closet. i hope you know that," you jested.
"baby, i'm rich. take whatever you want."

"Yes? Hello, officer? There's a man in my apartment."Â
Eddie stirs awake, his surroundings coming back to him in hazy waves.
"What?" he slurs out, blinking to clear his vision.
"Oh, I was just telling the officer that I've found a man sleeping on my couch," Stephanie says with a troubled expression, hovering over him.
Over the couch that he fell asleep on.
He sits up so suddenly he loses his balance and falls back against the cushion.
"I'm so sorry, please don't call the copsâ!"
Stephanie immediately shakes her hands, which are free of a phone.
"I was joking, I was joking!" she reassures him quickly. "I'm sorry." She smiles apologetically, taking a seat next to him. "I guess that wasn't the best way to wake up someone."Â
"No," Eddie chuckles awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. "Especially not an ex-drug dealer," he huffs dryly.Â
Steph cocks her head with a surprised "huh" and only then does Eddie realize what he has just blurted out.Â
"Ah, shit. Am I ruining my good neighbor status?" he winces.
"Not at all," Steph shakes her head, and gently pats his knee. He zeroes his focus on her hand when she decides to rest it there on his jean-clad leg.Â
"I know my nice neighbor Eddie, not the drug dealer one," she smiles reassuringly. "What made you turn around? If you don't mind me asking," she squeezes his knee and retrieves her hand to lean back more comfortably on the couch. One of her cats, Garfield, jumps on her lap for a greeting, and Eddie realizes she's still wearing her jacket. He looks at the clock on the wall and realizes it's almost midnight.Â
"Sorry, I'm holding you back, you're clearly tired," she backtracks quickly, watching his eyes dart around. But Eddie shakes his head.
"Nah, I just took an invigorating nap." She laughs at that and he can't help but smile as well. "I'd assume you're tired after traveling."
"I took an invigorating nap on the bus," she smiles, petting her cat. Arwen finally decides she's not above greeting her human and jumps in next to her as well, occupying Stephanie's other hand.Â
Eddie reminds himself not to get jealous of felines.
"I managed to graduate," he says and when Steph looks at him in confusion, he adds: "I dealt in high school to save money for my band, thought that was my only route. But then I did graduate, on my third try, and the art teacher pulled some strings, asked around, and told me I could go study music. The guys forced me to go for it," he smiles at the memory. "My band, I mean. They said at least one of us should know some theory," he chuckles.Â
"That's very nice of them," Stephanie comments.Â
"Yeah. The bastards followed me after high school too." He grins.Â
"And I still haven't heard your music," she sighs wistfully.Â
"I'll bring a tape next time," he promises.Â
"You better."
They sit in silence for a while, only the cat's purring filling the night ambiance.Â
"Want some tea?"
"I guess I should go."
They speak over each other, eyes wide when they meet awkwardly. They chuckle, and Eddie can feel his cheeks warm up.
"Or I can get us a beer? Since you're not an old lady," she offers, spotting the empty bottle on the table. "Unless you really need to go."
"Beer sounds good. Considering there are no old ladies here," he smiles charmingly, daring her to protest.Â
Steph doesn't say anything, only rolls her eyes and gently nudges Garfield from her lap onto the couch cushions. She scratches Eddie's head when she passes, thankfully missing the way it causes his whole body to shiver.Â
"Won't your uncle be worried where you are?" she asks from the kitchen, giving Eddie the space he needs to collect himself.Â
"I told him I'd wait for you," he answers, scratching Garfield and trying to forget how good it felt when done to him. "Also, I don't have a curfew anymore. Never had, in fact. Not with Wayne."
"Lucky you." She steps back into the room, handing him a chilled bottle. "How long have you been living with him?"
"Since high school," he answers before taking a swig. "Spent a short time in a halfway house before that. My parents couldn't handle me anymore, but they managed to reach my uncle and he took me in."
"The hell do you mean 'couldn't handle you'?" Steph asks with a frown.
Eddie chuckles at her immediate offense.
"They got into legal trouble, and couldn't afford the house anymore, I think my dad spent some time in prison too. Tax fraud and shit, never cared enough to dig into it and Wayne doesn't like talking about them either. He's a better parent they'd ever be anyway."
"Yeah," Steph softens. "I'd love to have had someone like him back in the day." Then, she deflates with a sigh. "Though even the nicest people can turn out to be bigots. Not Wayne, of course!" she rushes to add. "He knows about Robin and he's really cool about it."Â
Eddie sees his opening and feels comfortable enough to use it finally.Â
"He better be, since his nephew is bisexual," he says with a little huff.Â
"He is?" Steph picks up curiously.Â
"Yeah," Eddie scratches his cheek, suddenly sheepish. "Turned out I wasn't watching Indiana Jones for the plot."
"I think that sweaty chest is plot enough," she says and they both laugh.
"Have you dated a guy, then?" Stephanie asks next.Â
"Only one for real," Eddie admits. "But it's not like I've dated many girls either, though it is easier."
"A young bachelor like you?" Stephanie raises her eyebrows in surprise. "You should be swarming with marriage proposals, the way your uncle describes you."
Eddie groans, throwing his head back against the cushions.Â
"What nonsense is he telling about me?"
"Only that he has a talented, smart boy in Indy, who's always helpful and protective of his friends and family. Also, he has really frizzy hair."
"Excuse me?"
Eddie picks up his head to look at Stephanie. She's suddenly closer than before, rubbing a lock of his hair between her fingers.Â
"When was the last time you had your hair done?"
"Uh." He looks between her hand and her face like he'll find the answer there. "Never? Probably? At least not that I remember."
Stephanie's mouth purses with displeasure.Â
"I can fix them for you. For taking care of my cats."
Eddie wants her hands in his hair so badly, but he raises his beer like a dumbass.Â
"But I already got a beer," he points out.Â
She shakes her head.Â
"I share beers with friends for less. I'd usually buzz Wayne too, and you'd be doing me a favor because I can't focus with your split ends right in my face."
She's really playing it up, pout and all, and unfortunately, it's working on him.Â
But he'd probably do anything she asked for.Â
"Then, uh... Sure, I guess."

The sun had been up for a long time, the noise of the lively city could be heard through the window and you could swear that you ignored some calls just to stay in bed a little longer, but it was inevitable, with the warmth of the sheets and surrounded by the arms of your boyfriend who had returned, everything else could wait.
âAre you awake?â You couldn't help the smile that appeared on your lips when you heard his voice, you had missed him so much.
âIt's weird that you see me sleep, you know?â You opened one of your eyes only to see him leaning on one of his arms while he gently caressed your hair.
âI can't help it,â he came closer to leave a kiss on your forehead, âI need to know that you're here, with me.â
You felt your heart beat strongly when you heard his words and you came closer to hug him. Bang Chan was a busy person and it was hard to have to be apart when he had to go to work, but when he came back they didn't waste a second and did everything they hadn't been able to.
Sometimes they would go for walks at night holding hands, they would go to places, eat their favorite food and sometimes they would just lay in bed while enjoying each other's quality. It was like being wrapped in an invisible bubble where only the two of you existed and no one could get in.
âI'm hereâ you looked into his eyes, you wanted him to know that you were telling the truth, that you were speaking from the bottom of your chest âforeverâ
Despite the warmth that Bang Chan showed people, you knew that not anyone could get inside, but at that moment from the way he looked at you and smiled at you, you knew that you were already in his heart.
âI love youâ you said without being able to avoid it and before he could say anything you kissed him. You melted into the heat of that kiss giving everything of yourself, you were completely in love with him and you knew that your heart belonged completely to him.
Between kisses and small caresses you moved all over the bed until you ended up on top of his body and a shiver ran down your spine when the sheets left your naked body. Bang Chan took your legs and caressed your skin while he looked at you with a combination of desire and admiration.
âYou look beautiful just like thatâ
âI knowâ you answered mockingly while you moved your hips a little on the bulge you felt under you âI know you love seeing me on top of youâ Bang Chan let out a small moan and you felt his hands tighten a little on your thighs.
âUh huhâ his hands moved down your body leaving a warm trail wherever he moved, but you stopped when his hands cupped your breasts. Bang Chan leaned forward a little until he was sitting with you on his lap and he got closer to your face âI love everything about you my loveâ Your mouths came together again in a warm and slow kiss, full of all the feelings that could not be expressed with words.
You stifled a moan when his hands gently squeezed your breasts and he seemed to notice, but he continued to taste your lips while his fingers hooked onto your nipples. Your hands landed on his strong shoulders and you scratched his skin when he pulled away biting your lip. The desire in your bodies was becoming more and more evident and with the kisses on your neck it was difficult to try to keep your hips still on his lap, but Bang Chan ignored your little movements while he concentrated on passing his mouth over your breasts.
You arched your back, letting his hands support your weight as he ran his tongue over one of your nipples and his teeth grazed your skin, sending shivers down your spine. Your fingers tangled in the curly locks of his hair and you closed your eyes, letting yourself be carried away by the spiral of sensations.
You moved your hips once more, looking for something to calm the tickling in your pussy, but Bang Chan grabbed your hips tightly, making you stop. You looked at him with a silent plea, and even though he wanted to stop, he couldn't at this point, he was just as needy as you.
âChanieâŠâ you wrapped your arms around his neck and moved your hips on his cock once more, urging him on. You heard the ragged sigh he let out and moaned when you felt the tip of his cock touch your wet walls until it reached your entrance. You sank in, feeling him slowly fill you up until he hit rock bottom.
âI love youâ he said to you when you looked into his eyes.
Time stopped in your little bubble, as he thrust his hips and you felt him leave his load inside you again. Your body was marked by his bites and the traces of your nails were left on his back, his lips were swollen from the long kissing sessions and your legs trembled violently as your mind became clouded only by the pleasure you felt.
âOne moreâ Bang Chan begged in your ear, you could only nod and open your mouth letting out his name. Bang Chan pushed his hips and you wrapped your legs around his waist while his hands moved down your body until they landed on your clit, he moved his fingers in circles making your body shudder and your pussy tighten from the sensation
âI can't take it anymoreâ you said holding back the tears in your eyes as you felt a wave of pleasure run through your entire body
âComeâ you immediately released yourself without being able to stop it and instantly you felt Bang Chan's release spill over your thighs. His body collapsed on top of yours and you stayed still while you both caught your breath. Your hands caressed his hair while his arms surrounded you, it was as if neither of you wanted to move, until you started to feel a little suffocated by his weight.
âBaby⊠I think I need to breathe a littleâ Bang Chan moved immediately asking for your forgiveness and separated from you leaving you a void, but he helped you up before going to clean up.
After taking a shower and with clean sheets they lay down again simply enjoying each otherâs company. You didnât know when you fell asleep on his chest, but you woke up with a smile knowing that he was still by your side.
âDid you sleep well?â You nodded moving to look at him and gave him a smile.
Bang Chan took your hand and kissed your fingers, but you noticed that there was something strange in one of them, you moved your hand away and on your ring finger you noticed a ring with a shiny stone, you looked at it very carefully without understanding what was happening until Bang Chan let out a laugh.
âWhat is this?â you asked nervously and excitedly
âMy love⊠you know that I have loved you from the first moment you entered that place and since then my love for you has only grown, you have supported me and helped me when I needed it and that alone has made me understand how much I want to have you in my lifeâ his words made your heart beat with emotion and you could not control the tears that were accumulating in your eyes âthat is why I want to ask you to marry meâ
âYes, of courseâ you said releasing the tears and hugging him tightly while he laughed and hugged you tightly knowing that he would never let you go.

âSomeone named Logan,â Sam answers after a quick glance down at the paperwork in front of him. âDo you know him?â Ok so obviously I knew he was in this because the it says it but the way I giggling so school girlish when a crush is mentioned is not right so excited to be reading this now
A life with me isn't a life that you want for yourself. I wish you could see that I'm doing this because I care about you. I'll never be able to give you a fraction of what you deserve.â Ok but what is it with these hurt characters who won't let someone love them because they think we deserve better like let us love you
Ok so I love the whole part where they all meet Logan calling Bucky bub Bucky staring and the reader being the keep them on task and they way Bucky was like we go this way you go that way it has me giggling so much
âIt's what HYDRA is using to conduct breeding experiments with the mutants,â Bucky answers in a strained voice. âAnd now we've all three been infected with it.â Uh oh oh no what could possibly happen đđ
Ok so the spicy smuty part after is so hot like why can't I just have both forever and Logan's sweet little talk about how Bucky loves her
âBucky,â you attempt to interrupt him gently. He ignores it, needing to get this off of his chest before it eats him alive. Not me wanting to scream shut up Bucky and listen
âI did love Logan,â you cut him off. âI'll always care about him, and I'm thankful for what he and I had. Without it, I wouldn't have found you.â
âI do,â you grin at him. âI'm sorry it took me so long to see it. I was so scared of getting hurt again that I let it blind me.â You stroke your thumb over his cheek and he can't help but melt into your touch. He thinks he's fucking dreaming. What why am I tearing up
Ok I loved this it was so good with they spicy and that fluffy ending of the reader and Bucky this was amazing
no one does it better

The shrill, repetitive beeping of an alarm clock startles you awake and causes you to bolt upright in the bed you'd fallen asleep in.
Not your bed, you realize as you clutch Bucky's satin sheets to your naked chest. You'd accidentally passed out in his room after your time together last night.
âShit,â you breathe as you glance over to the digital display of the alarm clock on the bedside table, next to where Bucky begins to stir from his sleep. It's seven thirty in the morning, and you're going to be late for a meeting on an upcoming mission if you don't get back to your room and get ready ASAP.
âI'm so sorry,â you mumble as he hits the snooze button of the outdated alarm with the side of his metal hand. âI didn't mean to fall asleep.â
You withdraw from the covers, throwing your legs over the side of the mattress as you start to reach down to gather your clothes that are flung precariously on the floor next to you, when you feel his flesh hand wrap around your forearm.
You glance back at him to find him smirking up at you, sleep still written across his face.
It shouldn't be possible for anyone to look so beautiful first thing in the morning, you think.
He pulls you back down to him by your arm, only letting go when your face is close enough for him to seal his lips around yours. He kisses you slowly, lazily - not at all like the hurried, heated mess of tongue and teeth from last night.
âI'm not sorry. You're really cute when you snore, actually,â he murmurs when he pulls away.
You roll your eyes, proceeding to pick your clothes up from his floor. âI do not snore,â you retort in mock defense. You yank yesterday's tank top over your head before standing to tug on your underwear and sweatpants. âBut we are both going to be late for this meeting if we don't get our asses out of bed.â
You turn to face him, your eyes raking over his still relaxed position against his pillow. He sits up, a look that you can't quite place on his face - something between dejection and disappointment. Whatever it is, you know you're the reason for it.
âIt's not a big deal, you know,â he starts lightly with a small smile. You quirk an eyebrow at him. âThat you slept in my bed,â he clarifies. âYou technically live in this building, so I don't think we crossed any imaginary line.â
You huff a laugh under your breath, a sinking feeling in your gut at the direction that you feel this conversation is headed.
You wouldn't admit it to him because of said imaginary lines, but you enjoyed sleeping next to Bucky. He's warm, and his presence is comforting, even to your subconscious. You slept the most peacefully that you have in months last night. Normally, you toss and turn and wake up multiple times throughout the night. But after falling asleep pressed up against him, you didn't wake a single time until his alarm started blaring and you opened your eyes to the early morning sunlight streaming through the cracks in his curtains.
But you and him both know what this is, and what this isn't. And as badly as such a large part of you wants to have more than this with him, you don't know if you're ready to put your heart on the line again.
âGet dressed, Barnes,â you say as you rip his comforter away from his body with the snap of your fingers, leaving him fully exposed. The sight makes you want to crawl back into the bed with him, but you force yourself to walk towards his door, ignoring the incredulous look on his face. âI'm not going to be the one to blame when Sam bitches that we're late.â
âąâąâąâąâąâą
Bucky is trying his hardest to pay attention to the case details that Sam is rambling on about, he really is.
But it's hard when his brain keeps going back to the fact that you fell asleep in his fucking bed and stayed with him the entire night. Your naked body pressed against his, your familiar scent of lavender and honey invading his senses throughout the night anytime you'd stir beside him.
When he woke up around two o'clock and realized that you had never made your way back to your own bedroom down the hall, he knew that he should wake you up and let you know that you'd fallen asleep. He knew that's what you would have wanted. But as he laid beside you, listening to the even and peaceful pattern of your breathing, he couldn't bring himself to disturb you - and selfishly, just didn't want you to leave.
You had been clear from the start - your arrangement was to be sex only. And Bucky had been fine with that, truly. He had been in agreement with you. He needed to focus on adjusting to life as a pardoned man post blip, and you needed to focus on healing from - well, he wasn't sure of the exact details. He didn't want to press you too much, but he knew that you had essentially started your life over shortly before he met you.
As happy as it made him to wake up with you beside him this morning, he rationally knew that you wouldn't let it happen again.
And that thought bothers him more than it probably should.
âWe've been in communication with Charles Xavier, founder of the X-Men.â Samâs voice draws Buckyâs attention back to the situation at hand. You sit directly across the table from him, his gaze flicking to you at the mention of your former mentor's name. Your face remains neutral, but he doesn't miss the way your posture tenses. âUpwards of a dozen mutants in their early twenties have gone missing. They have reason to believe that they are being held at a warehouse outside of Lake Placid.â
âThat's horrible,â you say with a shake of your head. âSo where do Bucky and I come into this?â You sound almost nervous, Bucky thinks.
âThe warehouse they are being held at is a former HYDRA base,â Sam explains with a glance at Bucky. âA warehouse that was specifically used for breeding experiments back in the fifties and sixties. The X-Men would like our help with this, seeing as how we not only have someone familiar with HYDRA, but someone who has worked with their team in the past, too.â
You give a slight, curt nod. Bucky knows that you're too much of a team player to argue, but he can read you like an open book - he can tell that you have reservations about this, though he doesn't fully know why.
He has his reservations, too. As if the thought of going into a potentially active HYDRA base isn't enough to put him on edge, knowing that the two of you were going to be working with your former team that you had left years ago only adds to his apprehension.
âWhat's the plan, exactly?â Bucky speaks up, forcing himself to look away from you and back to Sam.
âFirst things first, we need to figure out precisely what we are dealing with. We need confirmation that this is in fact where the mutants are being held, and exactly how many there are. The two of you will go to the warehouse for re-con, and one of Xavier's men will be meeting you there. Once we knowââ
âWho?â You interrupt, sitting up straight in your chair. âDid he say who will be joining us?â
âSomeone named Logan,â Sam answers after a quick glance down at the paperwork in front of him. âDo you know him?â
You go silent, pursing your lips. Bucky and Sam both look at you expectantly as you seem to space out. Sam calls your name in question.
âUh, yeah,â you answer, your voice an octave higher than usual. âI do - I did,â you correct quickly. âI knew him.â
Bucky's eyes narrow at your out of character response. Normally, you're witty and quick off the mark. Right now, you seem taken off guard - and kind of look like you might throw up.
Sam seems to notice your reaction, but doesn't question you any further. Instead, he awkwardly clears his throat and passes identical folders to both you and Bucky.
Bucky notices the slightest shake of your hand as you grab it off of the table.
âHere's all the information you should need for now,â Sam says. âYou guys head out at noon.â
You stand up from your chair and speed walk towards the door without another word, flinging the door open without a flick of your fingers.
Sam gives Bucky a look that says âfuck if I knowâ before Bucky dashes out of the briefing room after you.
âHey!â He calls, catching up to you in several long strides. He grabs you by the wrist, effectively stopping you in your tracks.
âDo you want some breakfast? I'm going to order Postmates.â You say before he can get a word out. He glances from your panic-stricken eyes down to the clammy skin of your wrist.
âPostmates?â He asks, appalled that you're asking him about breakfast right now. âWhat? No. I'm - are you okay?â
âI'm fine,â you raise your eyebrows with a forced looking grin. âA bit peckish, but I'm finââ
He rolls his eyes at your stubbornness.
âWhoâs Logan?â He feels you tense beneath his grasp on your hand.
âHe's an X-Man,â you say with a tight shrug before pulling your hand away from his and continuing back down the hallway.
Bucky really doesn't want to pry, or force you to talk about something that is obviously a touchy subject, but he's worried. The both of you are going to have to work with the guy in a matter of hours, after all.
âYeah, Sam just told us that much,â he continues as he walks quickly to keep up with you. âBut what's the deal? I take it you don't like the guy orâ?â
You're the one that comes to a halt this time.
âLogan is a good man, and I have no doubt that he'll do everything he can to help these mutants that we're looking for. That's all that matters, okay?â You say in a tone that indicates the end of the discussion.
Bucky doesnât push the topic any further, satisfied enough with your answer despite the voice in the back of his mind that is screaming that there's more to the story than your brief explanation.
âNow, do you want a breakfast burrito or not?â
âąâąâąâąâąâą
It's actually pretty pathetic that nearly three years of healing can go down the drain with a simple mention of his name.
You knew that you still cared for him. You knew that part of you always would, no matter how much time and space was between you.
But when Sam mentioned his name in that briefing room, you felt as though no time had passed at all. You were right back in your bedroom at the X-Men's headquarters, packing up your belongings to leave behind the only life that you had ever truly known.
And it wasn't because you wanted to. You didn't want to at all, really. But you'd put your heart on the line for someone who wouldn't take it, one too many times. You had accepted that you had no future there. At least not the one that you so desperately craved.
A future with Logan.
âA life with me isn't a life that you want for yourself. I wish you could see that I'm doing this because I care about you. I'll never be able to give you a fraction of what you deserve.â
You remember how he wouldn't even look you in the eye as he broke the last piece of your heart with his words. Just stared at the empty shot glass on the table in front of him.
âYou're giving up your last chance to even try.â
The last words you'd said to him play on repeat in your head the entire drive to Lake Placid.
You know that Bucky can tell that something is bothering you - and by extension, you can tell that something is bothering him. He hasn't once mentioned the mission at hand or attempted to turn on the radio, instead opting to drive in a heavy, loaded silence for the first hour of the car ride to the warehouse.
You glance at his side profile from the corner of your eye. His jaw is set tightly and his face otherwise expressionless, but you've known him long enough to know what he's thinking.
âWe were together,â you blurt out quickly. He turns his head to look over at you in the passenger seat, his face not revealing his thoughts. âLogan and I. We were together.â
âIt's okay. You don't owe me an explanation,â he replies in a stiff voice, his gaze turning back to the road in front of you. You notice his grip on the steering wheel tightens.
âI know I don't. But you still deserve one,â you continue as you begin to inadvertently pick at your cuticles. âIf the situation were reversed, and we were about to walk into this with someone that you'd been with intimately in the past, I would appreciate knowing that beforehand.â
This seems to alleviate some of the tension that he's carrying. His grip on the steering wheel slackens, and he looks back over at you with a small smile.
âWell, thank you for telling me.â
âI'm sorry that I didn't let you know when you asked about him earlier,â you continue. âI was just.. taken off guard. It's been a long time since I've seen him, or even talked about him.â
âHow long were you two together?â
You weren't surprised by the question, but you still found yourself unsure of how to answer. You knew the true answer would likely lead to follow up questions - follow up questions that would sting to answer out loud.
But over the course of the months that you've been sleeping with Bucky, you've fallen for him. You didn't mean to, and you didn't want to admit it to yourself at first, but it had been a while since you had been able to deny that fact to yourself. No matter how seeing Logan again after all these years goes, it won't change your feelings for Bucky. You don't know what the future looks like for you and Bucky, but you know you owe him honesty and transparency.
âWell,â you start. âWe were never really officially.. together. But we were.. involved for a year when I broke things off.â You hope that he can read between the lines of your poor excuse of an explanation.
âOh,â he answers shortly. You can't tell if your answer made him feel better or worse about the situation. âAnd why did you break things off?â
You look down at your hands in your lap as you clear your throat. âWe wanted different things,â you shrug. âI wanted something more serious and he felt he wasn't capable of giving that to me.â
âWasn't capable?â
âHe had his reasons,â you sigh. âI know he cared for me, he could just never.. get out of his own head long enough to allow himself happiness. I don't hold it against him. It's been years, and I've made peace with it.â
âWere youâŠ?â He trails off, his eyes flickering between you and the road that he turns onto. According to the GPS, the warehouse is just a few miles away now.
âIn love with him?â You finish for him. He looks at you expectantly.
âYeah,â you answer honestly. âI was.â
âąâąâąâąâąâą
The words I don't know why I signed up for this shit keep playing on an endless loop in Logan's brain.
Every time, the words are followed by the image of your face.
He swears he's a fucking idiot. He doesn't even know if you'll be here. The Avengers have how many members at this point, anyway? What are the odds that you'll be here, out of all of them?
And even if you do happen to be here? Then what? It's been three years since he willingly let you walk out of his life. You've made a new life for yourself, found a new job and a family with them.
He didn't think this through, and he knows that. All he can do now is remind himself to focus on the mission, and worry about the rest later.
He can't allow himself to think what if he sees you again. Not when you always deserved better, and certainly do now that he's let so much time pass without even reaching out.
There's two things he's absolutely certain about, however. One, this warehouse reeks of sewage and mothballs.
Two, it's fucking empty.
He had arrived before the Avengerâs members that he is supposed to be meeting and immediately knew that something was off. His heightened senses detected no fresh human or mutant scents, or any kind of sounds emanating from the building.
He slipped through a back stairwell door to confirm his suspicions.
Completely deserted.
âFuckin' hell,â Logan groans to himself as he storms down a hallway, shoving every door he comes to open to make sure that HYDRA left behind no bodies.
He finds no one, dead or alive, which is both concerning and comforting. He has no idea how, but HYDRA clearly got tipped off that they were onto them and emptied the place out at a moment's notice.
He turns around the corner at the end of the long hallway, going to search for any indication of where they could possibly be transporting the mutants to next, when a voice that he hasnât heard in years and a whiff of lavender and honey stops him in his tracks.
âąâąâąâąâąâą
âWe had to have just missed them. They can't possibly be too far from here. We need to find Loââ
You come to an abrupt halt when he rounds the corner just a few feet ahead of you. Bucky stops beside you, letting you take the lead.
âLogan,â you breathe. He hasn't aged a day - he looks exactly as he did the last time that you saw him, though that comes as no surprise.
His eyes pause on the small Avengers emblem on the breast pocket of your tactical suit before trailing his gaze up to yours.
Though it feels surreal to be standing in front of him after all this time, the gravity of the situation and the fact that Bucky's arm grazes against yours from beside you helps ground you.
âIt's good to see you,â he greets you with a murmur of your name. âI wish it could be under different circumstances.â
Your only response is a stiff nod as you awkwardly clear your throat and turn to the man beside you, whose harsh stare has yet to leave Logan.
âThis is my partner, Bucky,â you introduce them, gesturing between the two. âBucky, this is Logan.â
âYeah, nice to meet you, bub,â Logan grunts after a pregnant pause. You don't miss the way Bucky's eyes narrow at him at the nickname.
âHe always stare this much?â Logan asks when Bucky offers nothing in response other than a curt nod. An almost sadistic smile begins to spread across Bucky's face at Logan's remark, causing you to grab his bicep in a firm hold right as he opens his mouth to respond.
âLetâs stay focused, yeah?â You glance back and forth between the two of them. The entire situation is nerve racking enough, the last thing you need is the two of them at each other's throats. âWe need to do a sweep of each level to see if there's any kind of evidence as to exactly what theyâre doing and where they could be headed next.â
âGreat idea,â Bucky speaks up as he puts his hand on your lower back and angles you away from Logan. âYou and I will check out the east wing,â he says to you, moving you in the opposite direction by applying pressure to your back as he begins to walk away.
âAnd you can check out the basement,â he calls to Logan over his shoulder.
You think you hear Logan chuckle under his breath as he begins to walk towards a stairwell. Luckily, without any argument.
âSubtle,â you mumble as Bucky steers you around a corner and then drops his hold on your back. âWas that really necessary?â
âI didnât like the way he called me bub.â
âHe calls everyone bub,â you snort.
âDoes he call you bub?â
âWell, noââ
âExactly.â
You throw your hands up in surrender, not wanting this to turn into an actual argument. You and Bucky work in silence as you clear the east wing of the warehouse, checking each room for any signs of what has happened and where HYDRA could be heading with the mutants next.
You find over half a dozen small rooms with hospital style beds, each rigged with hand and ankle cuffs. Almost all of them have blood stained sheets, and you have to fight off the nausea that begins to grow in your stomach at the sights and smells.
After clearing all of the makeshift bedrooms, the two of you come to a set of large, metal double doors at the end of the hallway. There's glass paneling on each one, but they're so caked in dust and grime that it's impossible to peer through them.
âStand back,â Bucky instructs you gently. âI'll go in first.â You take a step back, allowing him to press his frame against one of the doors. It opens with a shrill creak, revealing a large room full of surgical tables, monitors, and shelves overfilled with various vials and bottles of unknown substances.
Bucky enters the room, holding the door open for you to follow him inside.
âWe should take pictures of all of this,â you start, glancing around at all of the packed shelves. Bucky lets go of the door, looking around the room with you. âI don't know what any of this shitââ
You're cut off by the sound of the metal door slamming to a harsh close behind the two of you, immediately followed by dozens of glass vials shattering against the cement floor when a wooden shelf collapses.
It all happens so fast that you don't even have time to think about using your powers to stop it.
You both jump back, distancing yourselves from the thick plumes of red and black smoke that erupt from the pile of shattered glass. The room is quickly filled with a thick stench of something akin to vinegar. You burst into a coughing fit as Bucky tugs you away from the wreckage, shielding your face to the best of his ability with his metal arm.
âThat can't be fucking good,â you manage to get out in between coughs. The billows of smoke continue to grow higher, effectively blocking you and Bucky from the doorway. To get out of the room, you'd have to walk right through it.
âMaybe it'll dissipate in a secââ
You're cut off by a sharp stabbing pain that starts in your lower belly and radiates all the way through your diaphragm and pelvis.
âFuck!â you yelp out, clutching at your stomach. Bucky immediately lunges towards you, preventing you from completely crumpling over.
âWhat is it?â He asks, panic evident in his voice. âHey, look at me, what's goingââ
He canât get the rest of his question out before he's letting out a sharp hiss, his hands moving to clutch his own stomach. âOh, fuck,â he groans through gritted teeth.
âWhat was that?â You cry. Your legs suddenly feel like jelly, and before you can grab onto one of the surgical tables for support, you're falling to your knees on the hard cement floor.
Before Bucky can manage any kind of response, your head is snapping towards the entryway to the room that's concealed by the cloud of smoke. You can hear Logan calling your name from down the hallway.
âLogan!â You yell back just as another jolt of pain hits your gut. âDon't! Don't come in here!â
But just as the warning leaves your lips, Logan is slamming the double doors open and walking directly into the chemical cloud.
âGoddammit, what the hell?â He yells as he begins viciously coughing. Bucky falls to the floor next to you, his face distorted in pain.
It's as you're looking at his face - his plush pink lips and perfectly chiseled jawline - that your heart rate begins to skyrocket.
Logan emerges from the dark burgundy cloud, looking completely bewildered as he takes in the state of you and Bucky on the floor. His gaze settles on you in concern.
âAre you okay? What happened?â
âThe shelf fell,â you grunt out, looking over to the smoke that's now beginning to dissipate. âA bunch of vials shattered. Whatever was in themââ
You can't finish the sentence before you're overtaken by discomfort in your groin. You look down at the zipper of your tactical suit, trying to make any sense of what is happening. It feels as if youâve pissed yourself - your underwear is suddenly uncomfortably sticky and wet.
âWhat was in those vials?â Logan demands. You look up, frantically glancing between him and Bucky. Logan stumbles backwards, clutching his stomach with one hand as he leans against a surgical table for support.
âIt's what HYDRA is using to conduct breeding experiments with the mutants,â Bucky answers in a strained voice. âAnd now we've all three been infected with it.â
âąâąâąâąâąâą
Logan thinks that for the first time in two hundred years, he could actually fucking die. His lungs feel like they are collapsing within the cavity of his chest and liquid fire courses through his veins. He looks at you, doubled over in pain on the ground as Bucky crouches next to you and rubs circles on your lower back in a futile attempt to comfort you.
Logan has never considered himself to be a jealous man, but the mere sight of him touching you through your tactical suit makes his blood boil even hotter than it already was. He knows that if you had shown up here alone and the two of you found yourselves in this position, Logan would already have you bent over this table with his cock buried up to your stomach.
It's eating him alive - the drug, yes, but also the thought that you could possibly feel for Bucky what you once felt for him.
He knows he has no right to feel this way. Not when he had every opportunity to prevent you from walking away from him, and didn't take any of them. Not when you'd still be with the X-Men today, if you hadn't felt like your only chance at moving on from him was by leaving.
He knows all of this. But the drug in his system is making him really fucking irrational and possessive over someone who clearly doesn't belong to him anymore.
Doesn't belong to him and never did, he reminds himself. He has himself to thank for that.
âShe's your girl, is she not?â Logan spits out through gritted teeth. âDon't let me stop you.â
He has to get out of here. He has to get somewhere far the fuck away from you before he -
âLogan, don't be ridiculous,â you groan from where you're crouched on the ground. âWe are miles away from civilization. This will kill you before you can evenââ
Your voice alone is enough to make his cock feel like it's going to explode.
âKill me?â He chuckles. âYou've clearly forgotten a lot about me, sweetheart.â
He turns to leave the room when Bucky's voice brings him to a halt.
âShe's right. They're experimenting on mutants, you don't think they've taken regenerative powers into consideration? This shit has been reformulated to kill anyone with a beating heart.â
âWhat are you suggesting, huh?â Logan demands at Bucky. He doesn't know if what he is saying is true or not - he just knows that the room feels over a hundred degrees every time he looks at you and that it's a miracle he hasn't sliced this Bucky's guy's neck to get you alone yet. âIf that's true, there's only one way out of this. For all of us. Something tells me you won't be okay with that.â
If the way that Bucky glared at him when they first met didn't tell him enough, the pheromones that practically radiated off of him certainly did. He may not know the intimate details of your and Bucky's relationship, but one thing is plain as day - the man is in love with you, and Logan can't blame him for it.
Bucky forces himself up into a standing position, you still slumped on the floor by his feet. He takes a step toward Logan, allowing Logan to see the sweat that drips down his forehead and his dilated pupils.
âOkay with it?â Bucky chuckles grimly. âOf course I'm not okay with it. The thought of you touching her makes me want to choke the life out of you myself, but the thought of you dying and causing her even more pain? I'm even less okay with that.â
âNo one is dying,â you exclaim from beneath them, looking up at both of them with bloodshot eyes. âWe're going to do what it takes to make it through this. Okay? All of us.â
âąâąâąâąâąâą
There wasn't enough time to overthink it. If there was, this wouldn't be happening.
You were acting on pure instincts - instincts that were screaming at you to keep them both, and yourself, alive.
There's a tiny, faint voice in the back of your mind that reminds you of all of the potential consequences of this - of what the aftermath of this will be like. But then there's a louder, more dominating voice that overpowers it, telling you to give into this drug and save yourself, save Logan, save Bucky.
Bucky hauls you up to your feet, pulling you off the cement flooring by the tops of your arms.
âYou sure about this?â He asks lowly, walking you backwards until the backs of your thighs come in contact with a surgical table. It amazes you - how he's somehow able to still be so considerate of you when this drug is ravaging his body, too.
You look back and forth between him and Logan, both of them doing their best to conceal the considerable pain that they're in.
You suddenly find it hard to care about how fucked of a situation that you're in. Not when all you want is to feel them, touch them, taste them both.
Logan walks over to the two of you in two long strides. You perch on the ledge of the surgical table, Bucky and Logan standing side by side in front of you, trapping you between them and the bed. Their scents are overwhelming - Bucky's piney aftershave and Logan's faint musk of old tobacco.
âOrder me away,â Logan murmurs breathlessly. âTell me to leave right now, and I will, even if it kills me.â
âNo,â you practically bark at Logan, tugging him down by the tactical vest until his face is just inches from yours. âI am sure about this,â you implore. You drop your hold on his vest, bringing your hand to the zipper at the top of your own tactical suit and ripping it downwards, exposing your stomach and your lace clad breasts. You push the stretchy material away from your shoulders and down your arms, leaving yourself exposed from the waist up with the exception of your bra.
In any other scenario, you would have felt insecure about being so exposed in front of the both of them. But right now, with the drug spurring you on and the way that both of their eyes rake over your figure, it's an empowering high.
âLay down,â Bucky instructs you gently, restraint in his voice. âGotta get you out of this suit so we can take care of you.â
You don't hesitate to do as he asks, scooting backwards onto thin foam padding of the surgical table and laying down on your back. Bucky follows your lead, caging you to the bed with his metal arm as he hovers above you on the poor excuse of a mattress. He rips the thin lace material of your bralette away from your breast, immediately attaching his mouth to your nipple. You hiss, arching into the sensation.
Logan stands at the end of the bed, making quick work of shedding you of your boots before shimmying your tactical suit and your panties the rest of the way down your body. He groans at the sight of your exposed, wet cunt.
Bucky pulls away and you whimper at the loss of contact. He grins up at you, and then looks down at where Logan is now kneeling at the bottom of the table. He splays his large hands on your inner thighs, spreading your legs apart.
âGo for it,â Bucky encourages him. âIt's only fair. I had her just last night, after all.â
The possessive edge to his voice with the not so subtle reminder of who gets to fuck you now sends a fresh wave of arousal through you, making your pussy clench.
Logan growls at his words - there's no better word for the sound. Deep, dark and guttural, he growls before lowering his mouth to your wet heat.
There's an instantaneous relief wash over you as his tongue licks a thick strip from your hole and up to your clit. He moans into you as you lock your thighs around either side of his head, the scruff of his beard tickling your skin.
You pull Bucky down to you, crushing your lips against his. He brings his flesh hand to your exposed breast again, palming and pinching your nipple between his thumb and index finger.
You feel drunk off of the way that both of their tongues explore you - Bucky's mingling with your own and Logan's lapping at your pussy. You snake your hands between your and Bucky's bodies, cupping his evident bulge in your palm through his tactical pants. He thrusts his hips into your touch, but you know itâs not enough to provide him any kind of relief. Your fingers fumble with the buttons and zipper of his pants until youâre able to free his cock. You stroke him in one hand, smearing the pre-cum around his tip up and down his length. His forehead rests against yours as his eyes roll back into his head.
With your other hand, you reach down to where Logan is nestled between your thighs and lace your fingers between the tufts of his hair. Itâs all so strangely familiar - the feeling of Bucky twitching in your palm and Loganâs lips locked around your clit.
Despite the time that's passed since the last time he's touched you, Logan still knows your body like the back of his hand. He knows you're close when you start bucking your hips against his mouth, chasing your release with the friction. He brings a calloused finger to the base of your cunt, circling the tip of it in the excess of your juices before slipping it into you with ease. He quickly adds a second, dragging the digits along the velvet walls of your cunt. Bucky captures your lips in his once more as you pump him rapidly in your hand and you feel the coil in your belly heat and tighten when he slips his tongue inside your mouth.
You cum with a cry that gets lost in Bucky's mouth, Logan working you through your orgasm with his tongue and fingers until you've stopped writhing against his face.
âShe makes the prettiest sounds when she's fucked out of her mind, doesn't she?â Logan slurs as he sits up on his knees and begins to unbutton his pants. His lips and beard glisten with your slick.
âTell me about it,â Bucky agrees, pulling himself out of your hand. He helps you into a sitting position and then cups your jawline in both of his face, forcing you to look up at him.
âWhich one of us do you want first, huh?â
Drunk off of their words in your post-orgasm haze, all you can do is shake your head. You know either one of them would fill you up just right, alleviating the still present ache in your gut.
âCome on, sweetheart,â Logan purrs as he yanks his pants and boxers down to his knees with one hand and pumps his length in the other. âGotta tell us what you want. You're the one calling the shots here.â
It's the way that they're both looking at you like they'd do anything you asked of them that gives you the courage to take control of the situation.
âCome up here,â you instruct Logan. Bucky hops off of the bed, giving you space to maneuver yourself onto your hands and knees. Logan crawls around you, until his cock is directly in front of your face.
Bucky takes it upon himself to take Logan's prior position at the base of the bed, stroking himself in his hand as he lines himself up at your entrance. He teases your hole for a moment, unable to hold back any longer as he sinks his length into you. You gasp at the fullness of it, instantly rocking back against him as he digs both his metal and flesh fingers into the meat of your hips.
Logan fists his cock, the tip glistening just inches in front of your mouth. You stick out your tongue, licking up the beads of pre-cum that drip down the head. He curses under his breath, nudging your lips apart with the tip. His eyes flutter closed as you take him in your mouth, inch by inch until he hits the back of your throat. Behind you, Bucky works up to a brutal pace that has you moaning around Logan's cock in your mouth.
âYou look so pretty like this,â Logan praises from above you as he cradles your head in his hands, keeping you right where he wants you. âAlways been so pretty. You know that?â
You bob your head along his length, bringing one hand to massage the base of his shaft.
It's all overwhelming - the angle that Bucky is hitting your cervix over and over again, and the lack of oxygen from Logan completely filling your mouth and throat.
âSo fucking tight, too,â Bucky coos as he loops his arm around your midsection, bringing his flesh fingers to rub your clit. Logan begins to piston his hips back and forth, making you gag each time he rams against the back of your throat. The lack of air has your cheeks stained with a steady stream of tears. âTaking both of us so well. Fuck, âm gonna cum.â
His words send you over the edge, a second orgasm washing over you. You pull yourself off of Loganâs dick, all but going limp on the shitty foam mattress beneath you as Bucky spills into you from behind. Logan keeps a firm grasp on your shoulders, helping to keep you upright as you come down for your climax.
As you try to regulate your breathing, youâre overcome with relief at knowing that Buckyâs going to be okay - and relief at the absence of searing pain in your own gut when Bucky pulls out of you. Relief that is short-lived when you look up to see that Loganâs face is still contorted in pain.
âLay down,â you instruct him breathlessly. âIâll take care of you.â
Instead of doing as you ask, he pulls you up to him by the tops of your arms and melds his lips to yours. It hits you that although his cock was just down your throat, this is the first time that the two of you have kissed in years. He tastes exactly as you remember - thereâs always an underlying hint of sweet tobacco and bourbon.
Despite the urgency of the situation, he takes his time kissing you. Heâs almost hesitant at first, sweeping his tongue along your bottom lip as if asking for permission before slipping it inside your mouth. You're vaguely aware of the sound of the metal doors creaking open and then clicking closed in the background.
It's over as quickly as it begins. When he pulls away, he's looking down at you, the pain that he's in no longer visibly displayed on his features. As if your kiss alone was a balm.
âI had to do that, just once. Just one more time.â
And with that he maneuvers himself so that he's laying flat against the surgical table, pulling you across him so that your thighs straddle either side of his hips. You glance around the room, realizing that Bucky is nowhere to be seen.
You can't say that you blame him - with the drugs dissipating from his system now that he's had his release, of course he wouldn't want to stick around for what's to come.
What did you expect him to do, stand to the sidelines and watch? Still, a wave of panic washes over you at not knowing where he's at - physically or mentally.
âI'll make this quick, sweetheart,â Logan murmurs from beneath you, noticing your distraction. âThis will all be over soon.â
This draws your attention back to him, and panic is replaced with guilt - guilt that he still has these chemicals making every fiber of his being undoubtedly feel like he's on fire, while you now feel okay.
âDon't worry about me,â you tell him, cradling his jaw in the palm of your hand from above him. You lean forward on your knees, using your other hand to align his erection with your entrance. You sink yourself onto him in one swift motion, gasping at the stretch of his girth. âJust focus on yourself,â you whisper through the burn.
You give yourself a brief moment to adjust to the angle before rocking forward, pulling out almost completely before sinking back down. His facial features visibly relax at your movements, your walls fluttering around his length and alleviating all of his discomfort.
âThat's it,â he encourages as you pick up your pace. âJust like that.â His large hands come to grip your hips, helping to move you up and down. He thrusts up, meeting each of your movements with his own. âFeel just as perfect as you always have.â
You can tell he's close when the movements of his hips grow sloppy and his breathing becomes erratic. One, two, three more harsh thrusts and he's spilling into you - his brows furrowed together and his teeth dug into his bottom lip hard enough to draw blood if it weren't for the fact that the indentations heal as quickly as they appear.
You let out an audible sigh of relief as you pull yourself off of him, a mixture of both his and Bucky's cum leaking down your inner thighs.
You're okay. Logan's okay. Bucky's okay. Okay being a relative term, of course. But you were all three going to live.
You sit on the edge of the table as Logan stands up and tucks himself back into his pants. He grabs your underwear and tactical suit from where they'd been discarded on the floor and hands them to you.
âYou okay?â He asks hesitantly.
âYeah,â you answer as you slide your panties up your thighs. He looks away, wanting to give you the privacy to dress yourself now that you're no longer under the influence of the drugs. âYeah, I think so. Are you?â
âFeeling a lot better than I was just five minutes ago.â
The two of you fall into a heavy silence as you proceed to put on your clothing and boots. Logan pulls out a cigar and a lighter from one of the interior pockets of his vest and lights it up. You can't help but laugh under your breath - some things never change.
âListen,â Logan starts as he exhales a puff of a smoke. âI know this wasn't anyone's fault and we all did what we had to do, but I'm sorry if this causes any issues between you and your boyfriend.â
âYou don't need to be sorry,â you assure him. âAnd he's not my boyfriend,â you add in a smaller voice.
âCould have fooled me,â Logan huffs with another inhale of his cigar. âPractically smelled it on him the second that I saw the two of you together.â
âSmelled it on him?â
Logan takes a step closer to you, narrowing his eyes at you.
âSweetheart, that man loves you. A blind man could see it.â
A lump forms in your throat as you take in his words. Could they be true? Could Bucky really love you? You weren't naive enough to think that he feels nothing for you - you've always known that he cares for you.
Maybe, just maybe it's possible - possible that you have spent so much time and effort keeping your walls up that you were blind to the fact that he could be in love with you.
âLook, I'm not trying to overstep here,â Logan continues when you don't respond. âI just want you to be happy. That's all I've ever wanted for you. Just don't make the same mistakes that I did, yeah? If you love the guy, tell him.â
You jump down from the edge of the table, coming to stand directly in front of Logan. Sincerity flickers in his hazel eyes - hazel eyes that you used to be in love with and will always have love for.
But it's different now. You know it, and he does too.
You raise up on the tips of your toes and plant a small kiss near the corner of his mouth.
âThank you, Logan,â you murmur. âTake care of yourself.â
âąâąâąâąâąâą
The two hour long car ride back to the compound feels eternal despite the fact that Bucky drives a steady fifteen miles an hour over the speed limit the entire time.
After you ran out of the warehouse looking for him, Bucky was quick to make sure that you were okay. After being assured that you were physically fine, he wasted no time in ushering you back to the vehicle and getting the fuck out of Lake Placid.
He knew that you and him would have to have a conversation. He knew that you were itching to bring it up - could tell that you were nervous by the way that you dug your nails into the palm of your hands and repeatedly cracked your knuckles throughout the drive back home.
But he wasn't ready to hear it. He wasn't ready to hear how seeing Logan after all of this time brought up so many feelings that you thought were buried. He wasn't ready to hear how kissing him again made you realize that you couldn't kiss him anymore.
He wasn't ready to accept the fact that the last time he got to fuck you, he had to share you with the man that you'd undoubtedly be going back to.
So when he sees you part your lips to speak from his peripheral vision, he pretends he doesn't notice and quickly turns up the volume to the radio, blaring some shitty early 2000's pop song that sounds like nails on a chalkboard to him.
Anything sounds better than the words that he dreads coming from your mouth.
As soon as the two of you arrive back to the compound, you're both whisked in different directions for medical exams and separate debriefings on what happened during the mission.
By the time he's finished getting the third degree from Sam, and has given a blood sample so that the research team can study the drug that the three of you had been exposed to, he's ready to sleep for a solid twenty-four hours.
But he knows he won't be able to fall asleep with the ten pound brick that sits in the pit of his stomach at the thought of how the next conversation between you and him is bound to go.
He's walking back to his room, practically dragging his feet, when he walks by your door - it's slightly ajar, and light creeps into the otherwise dark hallway from the opening. He pauses to listen, hearing only the soft shuffle of your slippers on your rug and the low volume of your TV, undoubtedly playing one of your comfort shows.
He takes a deep breath before giving a soft knock to your bedroom door. He hears your footsteps approach the door, his heart sinking to his stomach before you can even open it.
âBucky,â you breathe. He relaxes the slightest bit at the fact that you sound relieved to see him. âCome in,â you tell him as you open the door wider for him.
He enters the familiar, comforting space of your bedroom. You've lit several tea light candles throughout the small space, and he sees that his assumption about your comfort show playing is correct.
âI was going to come check on you in a little bit,â you tell him as you sit down next to him. âAre you okay?â You ask him gently.
He gulps, not knowing where to begin.
âI'm alright, all things considered,â he offers with a forced smile. âListen,â he continues, suddenly unable to hold your gaze. His eyes flitter around your room, as if he's trying to memorize all of the little details. âI know you're probably exhausted, but I just wanted to tell you that I'm sorry for what happened today. I'm sure that it was harder on you than it was on either of us. I know you loved him, and I get it if you still do and don't want to continue this now. I wouldn't blame you if you went backââ
âBucky,â you attempt to interrupt him gently. He ignores it, needing to get this off of his chest before it eats him alive.
â--back to him. But I just need you to know that this doesn't change anything for me. We did what we had to do for us all to make it out of that alive, but I don't want anything to change between you and I. I hope we can.. go back to normal.â
He finally looks back to you once he finishes rambling.
âI don't want things to go back to normal for us.â
He assumed that's what was coming, but it doesn't make it sting any less. He clears his throat, and starts to push himself off of your bed when you grab his hand.
âI don't want things to go back to normal for us because I'm in love with you, Bucky.â
You close the small amount of space between the two of you, cupping his head in your hands and pulling his face to yours. You slate your lips over his and before he can even process what you've said, he's wrapping his arms around your back and pulling you onto his lap.
Because I'm in love with you, Bucky replays on repeat in his head as he kisses you until you're breathless above him.
âYou love me? But - Logan - what aboutââ He stutters out as he stares up at you.
âI did love Logan,â you cut him off. âI'll always care about him, and I'm thankful for what he and I had. Without it, I wouldn't have found you.â
âYou love me,â he states in disbelief.
âI do,â you grin at him. âI'm sorry it took me so long to see it. I was so scared of getting hurt again that I let it blind me.â You stroke your thumb over his cheek and he can't help but melt into your touch. He thinks he's fucking dreaming.
You love him. It sounds too good to be true. But he knows you too well enough to know that you wouldn't say it if you didn't mean it.
He can see it in your eyes, just how true it is.
âI love you,â he breathes before bringing his lips to yours once more. He kisses you like it's the first time he ever has - takes his time exploring your mouth with his, he nips and sucks on the swell of your bottom lip with his teeth.
You break the kiss, a playful smile blooming on your face.
âI was about to hop in the shower when you knocked. Would you want to take one with me?â
He can't help but return the smile. âYou're inviting me to shower with you? Next thing I know you're going to be falling asleep in my bed on purpose.â
You snap your fingers, and Bucky hears the water from your shower begin to beat down on the floor of the tub.
âOh, you're sleeping in my bed tonight, if that wasn't obvious.â
DISCLAIMER i promise i love logan howlett with my whole heart!!! â€ïž i don't normally write angst so i wanted to try something a bit out of my comfort zone. it's been a little while since i've written for bucky so that motivated me to gear this story more towards him, but there's plenty of happy logan pieces on my masterlist đ«¶đ»đ

Hey babe
Your such a good writer please more lamine yamal fics im acc begging there literally noneđđđđđȘ
the sitterâ lamine yamal [ l.y ]
met you at the right time. this is what it feels likeâ feels like [gracie abrams]
pairing: lamine yamal x fem!reader
summary: a rushed call from lamine's mother to babysit kenye turns into more than just a regular afternoon
genre(s): toothrotting fluff (have your dentist on standby)
[w.c: 2.8k] masterlist
notes: I wrote this instead of watching the real sociedad match to cope with the fact that we're losing. I got a bit carried away with this one but I hope you like it <33
as you stepped into the familiar house, not even having to ring the doorbell you were greeted with the smell of fresh baked cookies and comfort. you shut the door behind you and easily walked through the familiar hallway.
when she saw you, lamine's mother's shoulders relaxed a heavy amount along with the breath of relief she let out. âmy saviour,â she said with a smile and pulled you into a tight hug, her gratitude evident. âI'm so sorry for calling on short notice but I have an emergencyâ ow!â
she bit her tongue in frustration and looked down to see the toy car that she stepped on, her head spinning at her son's carelessness. ânever have kids, youâll regret it eventually,â she said half-joking and hurriedly led you to the living room where kenye was sitting on the floor, a toy car in his hand while he watched tv.
she didn't even have to call out to him, the second he saw you he was up and in your arms with a toothy grin. âhey, buddy. didn't expect to see me today did you?â
the older woman watched with a smile as you interacted with her son, the moment being cut off by her ringtone. she didn't even bother to look at it and instead grabbed her purse and made a beeline for the front door, yelling out instructions and goodbye's as if you hadn't been doing this for a year already.
âand thank you, sweetheart! I owe you! kenye, behave!â
the door slammed shut, leaving you to the 5 year old's energetic grasp. you quickly settled into your usual routine, skipping the snack part because he had his breakfast already since it was only after 10 am.
you took your usual seat on the carpet with him because he was usually full of energy this early and jittery. so to get it out of his system, you played games with himâ built some lego, played with his toys and so on.
an hour had passed and you found yourself trying to make his yogurt seem edible. it was never an issue to get him to eat, all it took was one âhereeee comes the airplaneâ and he was more than compliant.
âthere you go,â you said with a smile and lifted the final spoonful of yogurt to his lips, the boy clapping alone happily when it was finished. âyou took that like a champ.â
that didn't last long however and he was starting to grow antsy again, his suffocated whines piercing your ears. it was obvious that he was sick of the house and needed to get out, so without another thought you cleaned him up and took him out to the backyard.
it was any kid's dream back there. a playhouse, jungle gym with a slide, a ball pit and his personal favouriteâ the mini football net that was more of a self indulgent addition from his older brother.
you'd known lamine for over 3 years now seeing that you attend the same high school but it was a cute coincidence that his mother picked you for the babysitting job. the job wasn't even needed, you were just bored and needed something to do on weekends, there wasn't even a proper answer for how she found you.
as you and kenye played in the sun-drenched backyard, laughter and joy radiated from your every move. the mini football net, a testament to lamineâs passion for the sport, stood like a sentinel awaiting kenye's energetic kicks. your eyes sparkled with delight as you cheered him on.
the air vibrated with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and freshly cut grass, infusing your playtime with an idyllic charm. kenye's giggles echoed throughout the yard, mingling with the chirping of the birds.
meanwhile inside the house, lamine stirred from his sleep, rubbing the remnants of sleep as he descended the stairs to look for his mother. he called for her a good few times but she didn't reply, so naturally he searched the kitchen and her bedroom only to realise that the house was awfully quiet.
she would of said something if she had something planned today, and the tv was still on so someone was definitely home. then he entered the living room, his feet padding on the tiled floor as his eyes adjusted to the light from outside.
with a yawn, he neared the sliding door to check the backyard, but just as he was about to open it his hand froze on the handle. his mind blanked, his immediate reaction to seeing you play with kenye being to hide behind the curtain.
his thoughts were reeling, not expecting you to come over today. in panic, he took one last peep outside which only made his pounding heart thump even louder at the sight of you passing the ball to his brother so effortlessly.
run. that's what he did when he got the clearance, not wasting a second to rush back upstairs and grab his phone and hit the facetime button in the group chat. after 3 rings, hector and pau were on the line with himâ their confused faces synced as they watched the boy lock himself in his bathroom and start pacing.
âwhat happened to âhello'?â hector said, judgement evident in his tone but lamine didn't have time to fight his snarky comments.
he propped his phone up against the mirror and rushed to get his toothbrush, his palms sweating against the toothpaste tube.
âbro, are you going to tell us what's going on or is this some type of âget ready with meâ gimmick?â pau spoke up finally and put another spoonful of cereal his mouth, quickly getting distracted by the cover on the box and commenting on it.
âshe's here. she's not supposed to be here today so I don't know why!â lamine muffled out through his mouth full of toothpaste but his friends got the gist of it. perks of knowing each other for nearly their entire lives.
hector couldn't suppress his laughter, his smile on the screen teasing lamine. âthis is even funnier because it's actually never that deep.â
pau joined in on the laughter. âimagine asking why your brother's babysitter is over to babysit,â he snorted. âit's been a year, you're insane.â
lamine finished rinsing his mouth, double checking to see if there was anything in his teeth before splashing cold water on his face. âdoes it look like i just woke up?â he asked and touched up his hair. âis it giving âI just woke up and look this goodâ or âI freaked out and had a panic attack in my bathroomâ?â
his friends went silent, their jaws on the floor at the amount of overthinking that he was doing. he's liked you since he could remember. at first it was simple attraction, and then came the longing to know you more personally, and when he did that's when everything went to shit.
you were beautiful, that's for sure but you had this natural charm that he couldn't get enough of. you made an effort to talk to him, to help him with anything that he needed and your selflessness was barely the tip of the iceberg. family was the most important thing to him, and the fact that his family loved you and treated you as their own had him on his knees.
âit's giving, âI can't talk to girls I'm actually interested in'â hector deadpanned and pau was quick to follow.
âI got a better one,â he said in between his laughter. âIt's giving, âprofessional winger by night, but professional wreck by day.â
the bathroom echoed with pau and hectorâs non-stop laughter, both boys having rolled onto their sides by now while lamine stood with his head in his hands to try and calm himself down.
worst wingmen of the year, he liked to call them. the only advice he got was to breathe and not trip over his own feet. it was pathetic of him to let his attraction towards a girl make him this⊠messed up? but what was a teenage boy to do?
he put on his game face and made his way downstairs again, a smile tugging at his lips when he saw that you were watching kenye as he played in the ballpit.
when you turned around you saw him there, your heart skipping a beat as he opened the door with a warming smile. it was your turn to take a deep breath. âhey, I didn't know that you were home today,â you greeted cheerfully, you confidence oozing.
âyeah, we got the day off so I took the liberty to sleep in,â he answered a took a seat beside you on the grass to greet his brother who immediately threw one of the plastic balls at him.
laughter tickled at your throat as you watched lamine playfully throw them back at him but kenye took it personally and began hurling them at him. âwe're going to have to put a warning sign on him or something,â you joked in between laughter and lamine scoffed.
âthe real threat is his ability to kick a ball,â the footballer said with this lips pursed.
you playfully rolled your eyes at his comment. âoh, please, you're just mad because he already has better dribbling skills than you.â
lamine's face was contorted with mock offence, and he leant back on his hands to look at you. âare you talking about the same guy who won the kopa trophy less than 2 weeks ago.â
you couldn't shake off how laid back he looked in that moment. the way he was looking at you with such ease and playfulness made your head spin. âyes, yes I am.â you answered confidently to which he put a hand over his heart.
âyou wound me,â he joked. âI'm going to start making you nurse me back to health.â
funny. he was joking. right?
kenye, thrilled by the attention hurled another ball at lamine to which his older brother caught and tossed it back at him with a gloat. ânice try, but we already have the backyard champion sitting next to me right now.â
you smile faltered for a moment. âthat's only because you let me win.â
lameye's eyes twinkled as he took notice of your slightly flushed cheeks and he thought that maybe he was doing something right. âyou literally crushed me.â
you shook your head at his retort, ready to counter his argument as you put your hands in the air, and swiftly as if it were second nature lamine gently took them into his own to stop you from talking further. âconsider my ego bruised, you're just too good,â he joked with a shrug, his hands still holding yours.
it was for a moment that you stopped breathing, unable to function properly until you realised that kenye fell asleep in the ball pit. his light snores took the attention off from your banter and onto his peaceful figure that lamine effortlessly picked up and carried to his room.
when he came downstairs again, the house had gone quiet while you cleaned up kenyeâs mess that he eventually helped with. âoh wow, okay mr house husband,â you teased and tossed one of the toys at him, his smile not wavering as he continued to help you in comfortable silence.
after lunch the two of you found yourselves in the backyard again, chatting as per normal while lamine kicked the ball at his feet. he ended up stopping mid sentence to propose an idea that you weren't too eager about. a rematch at what cost? your embarrassment?
unfortunately for you, he was persuasive as hell.
âwhat do I get if I win?â he shrugged at your question with a knowing smile.
âanything you want, amor.â
you nearly choked on air at the term of endearment that came from literally nowhere. he didn't seem fazed by saying it though so you were almost certain that you heard him wrong and pushed it to the back of your mind and focused on the little tournament in front of you.
the sun was high, the barcelona heat was warm on your skin as you watched lamine ready the ball. the game wasn't supposed to carry on for as long as it did, but both yours and his passionate calls for cheating and distractions played a huge role in the 40 minute rematch.
âokay, this is the last round I swear,â you said with a tired huff which he was more than happy with. the ball was at your feet for a split second before you felt lamine's hands on your waist, holding you close to his chest as he sneakily took the ball and shot it into the back of the net with ease.
you jaw dropped at the utter foulness of the round. âyou cheater!â you said in shock and turned to look at him, but he was too busy relishing in his glory to care. he let go of you with a proud laugh and picked the ball up again, giving it one last kick.
âI didn't cheat,â he said through a cheeky smile and took a few steps towards you. âit's a contact sport, so it's fair.â
you rolled your eyes jokingly at his counter, still in disbelief that he'd go that far. but you weren't a spoilt sport so you congratulated him on his win, fair or not and he humbly thanked you.
you turned back with a smile and began heading inside but his hands were on your waist again, the familiar tingle setting your body on fire as he turned you to look at him, the smile on his face making your heart race.
âI'll be taking my prize, thank you,â he said with a boyish grin and let his lips gently brush your cheek, a gentle, fleeting kiss that had your knees weak for a split second.
he craned his neck to look down at you, a blushing mess and he couldn't help but coo even thought he was internally jumping off buildings. âaw, don't get shy on me now.â
you quirked your brow at what you took as a challenge, mild irritation clear in your eyes that were fluttered shut seconds later when your lips met his for what was supposed to be a quick peck.
keywords: supposed to be.
the feeling of your lips on his sent a surge of electricity through his body, and he couldn't waste the opportunity. he dropped the football that was underneath his arm and pulled you in, one hand resting on your cheek and the other on your waist as he relished the taste.
the long-awaited kiss finally came and it was everything that he hoped for and more. the way you melted into him, sent a warmth through his chest that had his head spinning and hoping that you'd never let go.
when you eventually pulled away to catch your breath, your lips tugged up into an amused smile at his lovestruck look and flushed cheeks. âisn't that a better prize?â you joked, your hands still loosely wrapped around his neck.
âI want a rematch, now,â he said immediately after, and pulled you back into the yard, his eagerness getting the best of him because he was not going down like thisâ âif I win then you have to marry me.â
âwhat?!â

epilogue

words: 3.1k
You couldnât believe those words came out of your mouth, but they did. And whatâs more, they were sincere.
It was late in the evening when you were heading back to the office in Quantico. No case ever ended with just catching the unsub â after that came the long hours of report writing and paperwork. After everything youâd been through, the team almost forbade you from taking on that task. Instead, they insisted that you go straight home and get some proper rest.
You rolled your eyes and nodded, like a child whose mother insists they zip up their jacket. Hotch was nowhere to be seen, Morgan was listening to music with his eyes closed, Emily and JJ were absorbed in their conversation, and Rossi⊠well, Rossi was doing whatever it is Rossi does. So, you reached for the case files and tucked yourself away in a quiet corner of the jet. You wanted to go over everything again, even though you knew that as soon as you saw Logan's photo, all the unpleasant memories would come rushing back with relentless force.
But before you could open the folder to the first page, someone simply took it from your hands. You looked up to see none other than Reidâblue shirt, sleeves rolled halfway up, a look of perpetual sleeplessness, his usual worry, and⊠joy. Small, but noticeable.
You, too, were almost disturbingly happy. Escaping death filled you with a mood akin to the high after smoking two joints back-to-back. Of course, it would only last for a brief moment; by tomorrow, youâd likely be tossing and turning in bed, plagued by nightmares. A familiar pattern.
"I donât even want to see you trying to work right now," Spencer said, taking a seat next to you and placing the folder beside him, just out of your reach. Or at least far enough that youâd have to put in some serious effort to grab itâand your sore ribs had no intention of letting you do that.
"Then what do you suggest I do?" you asked, rolling your eyes. "I don't want to sleep."
"Kafka on the Shore?" he suggested.
"I've already read it. By the way, what was the deal with the soldiers and the hut in the woods at the very end?"
"Well, that's an element that leaves a lot of room for personal interpretation."
"Thanks for the explanation, that told me a lot," you chuckled. You pulled your knees to your chest, trying to get more comfortable in your spot, but the movement triggered a wave of pain. You hissed.
âThey should have kept you in the hospital for at least one night,â Reid said, suddenly straightening up. âDo you need anything? There might be some ice around⊠or I could just leave, and you could lie downâŠâ
âNo. Youâre staying,â you decided firmly. He raised an eyebrow at your abrupt response. You quickly followed up with an explanation. âWell, Iâve finished reading my book, and you took my files. So now youâre responsible for my potential boredom. Itâs your duty to entertain me.â
âYeahâ he agreed with a smirk âItâs my dutyâÂ
"So, how do you plan to do that? Are you going to dance? Sing? Juggle?"
"I can't dance or sing, and I don't have anything to juggle. Is it enough if we just talk? Or is that too common of an entertainment for you?"
You pretended to think for a moment.
"Fine, I guess."
"Then what are you planning to do when you get back?"
"Visit Jeremy."
"Oh, right, sorryâŠâ
"Come on," you interrupted, waving your hand. A moment of silence followed as you hesitated before speaking again. However, you remembered that you had decided to stop staying silent about your worries and problems, at least in his presence. "It's just... it really stresses me out. I don't know how I should talk to him, I'm afraid I'll panic when I see him..."
Spencer cleared his throat before answering.Â
âThat... can really be tough,â he said, not bothering to lie or reassure you that everything would go perfectly. âBut hey, remember that heâs probably looking forward to seeing his big sister. Even if you start talking about something you think is silly, heâll be happy just to have you there.â
He made you smile, though the corners of your eyes began to gently dampen. You wiped them discreetly, not wanting to burst into tears on the jet.
"I hope you're right. And I hope he doesn't hate me for not being there for him..."
You stopped, feeling him take your hand. You realized you had been clenching it into a fist for quite some time.
"I don't know Jeremy, so I can only guess how he'll react. But I'm sure of one thingâhe definitely doesn't hate you."
For a long time, you simply stared at your hand in his warm grip. Your fingers relaxed, releasing the tension that had been between them, becoming limp yet yearning for the touch.
"Spencer," you said suddenly, taking a deep breath. "I don't know if I can ask you this... but... you've been there for me this whole time and... okay, Iâll understand if you say no, but... would you maybe... want to visit him with me? I don't know if I can do it alone."
You waited for his response, your heart beating faster with each passing moment. Maybe it was too much? Maybe you shouldnât be asking him for something like this; maybe it crossed the line of your acquaintance? Just a year ago... no, even a week ago, you never would have imagined youâd be begging anyone for something like this. You would have forced yourself to do it alone, ignoring your fear.
He simply smiled.
"Of course, you can ask me to do that. And I'm glad I'll be able to accompany you."
*
The sound of quickly pressed keys echoed as you gave the hospital receptionist your brotherâs last name.
The stark whiteness of the place and the blinding, intense light felt like a scene straight out of a horror movie. The thought of seeing Jeremy soon made you tremble. You had so many questions for him, including why he even tried to take his own life, but you knew you couldnât ask them just yet. He didnât need an interrogation to satisfy your curiosity; he needed support.
You were so overwhelmed at the thought of seeing him that you shifted impatiently from foot to foot. You felt stressed but also excited. After all, he was your little brother, and you missed him. Standing beside you, Reid smiled slightly, noticing your behavior. If you were hurting him by squeezing his hand as tightly as you could, he didnât let it show.
"Who are you to the patient?" the receptionist asked.
"His sister."
"And you?" she turned to Spencer.
"A frieâ" he began, probably intending to say friend.
"FiancĂ©," you interrupted, quickly offering a word that began with the same letter. You worried that if the woman found out he wasnât connected to you or Jeremy, she might ask him to stay in the waiting room. You didnât expect him to go into Jeremy's room with you, but you wanted the reassurance that heâd be right outside, not on the other side of the hospital.
Reid pierw spojrzaĆ na ciebie jak na wariatkÄ. PrĂłbowaĆaĆ mu niemo przekazaÄ, aby wĆÄ

Reid first looked at you like you were crazy. You tried to silently signal him to join in on your desperate act. Luckily, he caught on incredibly fast.
"That's right, fiancĂ©. Basically, husband. We're getting married... tomorrow," he improvised, nodding with such conviction that he almost seemed to believe it himself. "Well, actually, not tomorrow, but the day after, because tomorrow is Sunday, and weâre Catholic. In our religion,Â
âDarling,â you gritted through your teeth, seeing the receptionistâs confused expression.
âIn any case, Iâm very close to the patient,â he emphasized.
If he said anything more, you wouldâve nudged him with your elbow.
âWell⊠in that case⊠the patient is in room number fourteen. Itâs that wayâŠâ She pointed in the right direction. You thanked her with an overly wide smile. âAnd⊠congratulations.â
âGod bless you,â Reid said as he waved goodbye.
You quickly turned around, so she wouldnât see your burst of laughter. As soon as you were out of the receptionist's sight, you hit him on the back so hard that a woman with a cast on her arm almost dropped her coffee. He laughed, and you awkwardly tried to hide how much the whole situation amused you as well.
âIf I had let you say one more word, she wouldnât have let either of us in,â you complained. âShe wouldâve thought we were freaks. Religious freaks. Or maybe point us to the psychiatric ward.â
âHey, Iâm not the best actor. You should know that,â
âI didnât know. Iâll remember for next time, though Iâm not sure if there will ever be another situation where youâll need to pretend to be my husband.â
"Fiancé," he corrected. "You decided that yourself."
"Basically a husband. You decided that yourself."
You didnât say anything more, only grabbed the edge of his coat sleeve to slow his pace. You were standing outside room 14, right in front of the door. You didnât even peek inside; you werenât ready to see Jeremy just yet.
âI need one more minute,â you whispered.
âTake all the time you need,â he replied gently.
The playful mood that had accompanied you both was gone. Not knowing what to do with your hands, you stood on tiptoe and began adjusting his poorly tied scarf.Â
âSorry,â you muttered under your breath. âItâs been bothering me since I saw you.â
"I'll wait for you here, okay?" he asked quietly. Because you were so close to him, he barely had to raise his voice at all. "Jeremy doesnât know me, I donât want to just show up unannounced..."
âAre you coming in or what?â
You turned around, startled, to see none other than Jeremy. Lying on the hospital bed, poking at a container of chocolate pudding with a spoon, and most importantly, awake.Â
At first, you were surprised, but soon emotion took control of your body, and you ran to him as if he were about to disappear.
"Oh my God, I can finally see you..." His shirt, which you hugged tightly, muffled your words.
"The pudding spilled on your jacket."
"I don't care."
He chuckled into your hair, holding you tighter. You stayed like that for a moment, desperately holding back tears. If even one had surfaced, you wouldâve fallen apart like a child.
ou pulled away after a long time, immediately noticing that his eyes were also filled with tears. However, he quickly wiped them away with his hand. Still, he was a sixteen-year-old boy, and crying in front of his sister felt like public humiliation for him, a shame that would last forever. You tried to do everything you could to avoid looking at his wrists. Both hands were wrapped in bandages, and from the conversation with your father, you learned that they had put in a lot of stitches. You focused on looking at his faceâyoung, similar to yours, with the same blue eyes.
"Are parents visiting you?"
He shrugged.
"Father, surprisingly, more often. Mother drops by irregularly and talks about strange things. Apparently, our neighbor's dog has worms, and it really pisses her off. My mother, not the neighbor. Though, probably the neighbor too..."
You didn't know why you started crying.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry..." you mumbled, your words slurring. âI should have gotten here earlier, and I didnât. I regret so much that I didnât, Iâm sorry. I should have been here the moment you woke up.â
He didnât say anything, letting you lament. Finally, you wiped away the last tear, then apologized to him about eighteen more times. You sat together in silence for a moment, busying yourself with wiping the dirty jacket. He wasnât joking about the pudding.
âHow are you feeling?â
He shrugged.
âTolerable, I guess. By the way, who was that guy who came in with you?â
You turned toward the entrance, but Spencer was nowhere to be seen. He must have sat on one of the chairs outside the room, and knowing him, heâd probably started reading some medical brochure.
âA friend,â you replied briefly. âI hope it doesnât bother you that I brought him... Itâs justâŠâ
You didnât know how to explain that you couldnât have made it here without support.
âHe works for the FBI too?â he asked, suddenly curious. âWould he tell me more about the job than you do?â
You crossed your arms over your chest, pretending to be dead serious.
âI wonât let him tell my little brother any graphic details.â
âIâm not a kid!â
âTo me, you are, and always will be.â
He looked like he was holding back from sticking his tongue out at you.
âCall him,â he asked. âIâd love to meet your friend. Is he a friend, or a friend?â
âJeremy, youâre ridiculousâŠâ
But you fulfilled his request. Spencer stared at you with wide eyes when you told him that your brother wanted to see him. As he entered the room, he almost tripped over... probably his own feet, since there was nothing else to trip on. And thatâs how the rest of the visit went, the three of you together. Jeremy alternated between complaining about the hospital food and bombarding Reid with questions about absolutely everything related to being a profiler. He had always been fascinated by it, but after everything that had happened to you, you couldnât, with a clear conscience, recommend that job to him. Spencer had been explaining everything in detail to him, and for the next hour, you almost felt like an intruder in their private conversation, which amused you instead of offending you.
Spencer left a moment before you, giving you a chance to say goodbye to your brother privately. When you finally released him from your embrace, promising you'd come back tomorrow, the same nurse who had spoken with you at the reception entered the room. She was checking Jeremyâs condition as you headed for the exit.
âWait,â she suddenly said. âI think your husband left his scarf.â
She held up the purple scarf, indeed Reid's. You were about to thank her and take it when you noticed Jeremyâs mouth hanging open, and with horror, you realized what she'd said.
"Forgive me, dear sister, but what the fuck?â
*
âSo, heâs convinced that we had a secret, spontaneous wedding that you didnât tell him about?â
âYeah. Something like that.â
In reality, Jeremy had probably realized immediately that there was a misunderstanding, but he just couldnât pass up the chance to tease you. He would likely bring it up again for the rest of your life. You were also worried that you'd get an angry phone call from your mother asking why you didnât mention your âwedding,â but overall, you were content with how the meeting went.
You both walked together in an unknown direction, neither of you sure when you should part ways or if you even wanted to. You didnât want to, but you had no idea about him. The weather was much better than in the town where you had spent the last few days. The fewer trees meant that autumn wasnât as pronounced. It was only present in the chilly, gusty wind.
"If you don't have any plans, how about going out to eat?" you suggested.
"Sure." Reid agreed immediately, and the corner of your mouth twitched at the speed of his response. "What are you in the mood for?"
"Well, anything. There's a good restaurant on the corner of this street... Oh, God, I just remembered, I owe someone dinner as a thank you."
"Dinner? As a thank you?" he repeated with a strange look on his face. Before he could say anything else, he caught himself and snorted. "Interesting. Just curious, is it someone I know?"
"Oh, you know him." You continued with a barely suppressed smile. "Do you remember James Rivas? The forest ranger?"
Reid literally stopped in the middle of the sidewalk.
"Dinner? With him?"
"That's right. Well, he saved my life, so I guess I owe him that."
You were shocked when you learned how your team knew where to find you after you were kidnapped. The bunker Osborne took you to was unknown to the local authorities, hidden deep in the forest, far from any paths. When the rumor spread through the town about who was responsible for the murders and that an FBI agent had been kidnapped, the forest ranger showed up at the police station. He revealed that he knew the place where you might have been held because, as a child, he used to go there with friends, including Logan Osborne.
But of course, you had no intention of taking him to dinner. You just wanted to laugh at Reid's reaction.
"You're absolutely not owed anything by him!" he blurted out with emotion, a hint of anger in his voice. "If he'd only remembered that he knew about the existence of some bunker, you wouldn't have been kidnapped in the first place. You wouldn't have had to go through that hell, and I wouldn't have been losing my mind the whole time, not knowing what happened to you. Plus, have you forgotten what an awful person he is? He's arrogant, self-absorbed, and full of self-admirationâdo you really want to have dinner with someone like that...are you laughing?"
He furrowed his brow, completely confused by your reaction.
âGod, Reid, I was just joking! Iâd rather die than spend another hour with that jerk. Especially voluntarily,â you explained, laughing between words. Something in his remark made you smirk. âWere you really losing your mind when I was kidnapped? â
âYouâre impossible," he snorted. âWhereâs that restaurant?â
âWait, donât change the topic and answer my questionâ
He simply looked at you, tilting his head to the side.
 âIsnât it obvious?â

When I tell you I laugh so stinking hard at the thought of subway car sized zoomies, I want you to know that I laughed so hard and so long, my cat started yelling to wake up my housemate cause she thought I was dying. I currently have an upset cat, a laughing housemate, and a sore throat from laughing.
110% worth it.
This ask made me SO happy and I'm sorry it took so long to answer it. I wanted to draw something for fun, but my pen died as I was drawing it so it didn't turn out quite how I wanted. And then I never went back to it đ by bad. I'm literally so thrilled that you enjoyed it so much, over the moon in fact. But here's what I did draw!
(nodding with my arms crossed) you don't fuck with subway-car-sized zoomies. Not when you're dealing with a 13 foot tall pseudo-legendary.
Thank you for the ask! It literally means everything to me

If Dev ever does get redeemed in season 2 (PLEASE WATCH FAIRLY ODD PARENTS A NEW WISH WHEN IT DROPS ON NETFLIX NOVEMBER 14), I NEED to see Jasmine and Dev interact as friends đ We know how he feels about Winn (he thinks theyâre really cool) and we DEFINITELY knows how he feels about Hazel đ but I donât really think we got any interactions or like any mentions about how he feels about her in like any episode besides maybe him introducing Hazel to everyone?? I could be missing something and if I am please correct me!
In my personal opinion, I feel theyâd be gossip besties?? I could definitely be reading into Jasmineâs character wrong and if I am, I apologize but I desperately need interactions with them đ they remind me of that one Henry Danger Musical song đ I think itâs called Youâll Never Believe What Happened (Iâll copy and paste the lyrics to match them and the situation)
Dev: Sorry it took me soâ
Jasmine: Ooh, Dev, you'll never believe what happened!
Dev: No, I know.
Jasmine: There's a musical curse over Dimmadelphia!
Dev: Yeah, I know.
Jasmine: And you'll never believe who did it!
Dev: Irep? (I couldnât think of a better replacement đ)
Jasmine: Irep!
Dev: Yeah, I know.
Jasmine: Ooh, Dev, you'll never believe how he did it!
Dev: The speakers.
Jasmine: He took control of the speakers.
Dev: Yeah, I know.
Dev & Jasmine: And then put out a weird kind of frequency and now we have to sing!
Dev: Jasmine!
Jasmine: Yeah?
Dev: Thanks for filling me in.
Jasmine: Sure!
They also remind me of the smartphone hour if weâre going the gossip bestie route:
Jasmine: O-M-G Dev, answer me! Woah, wait until I tell you what I heard! It's too fucked to type. This shit is ripe! Call back, I'll yell you every word.
Dev: Jasmine Tran calling, Jasmine Tran calling, Jasmine Tran calling. Hey!
Jasmine: Oh my God, oh my God, okay so, at the end of last night's party, very end of last night's party, Did you see Rich? (I couldnât think of a replacement âčïž)
Dev: Oh, I saw Rich.
Jasmine: So he's behaving hazy like a tweakin' junkie, flailing crazy like a freakin' monkey!
Dev: He's gotta learn to handle his high, shouldn't drink so much for a small guy.
Jasmine: Right, but, he wasn't drunk.
Dev: The hell you say, Jasmine?
Jasmine: Yo, he wasn't drunk!
Dev: The hell you say, Jasmine?
Jasmine: No! Because I heard from Whispers Fred (I tried to think of a good replacement), that Rich had barely touched a drop. Which means that you can't blame the things he did on alcohol. It's just so terrible, I don't want to relive it all! But do you want me to tell you?
Dev: Spit it out! Spit it out!
Jasmine: You really want me to tell you?
Dev: Spit it out! Spit it out!
Jasmine: I'll tell you 'cause you are my closest friend!
Dev: No I'm not.
Jasmine: Yeah, I know. But here's what happened at the party's end. Rich set a fire and he burned down the house! Woah! Rich set a fire and he burned down the house! At Sea Without a Map pt. 25
For a very brief moment, you consider how out of all the crazy bullshit that's been thrown at you, this - a fucking pirate tiger - is the thing that's breaking your brain. Sea monsters and living nightmares are one thing, but how do you even begin to comprehend something this goddamn silly being real?
Well, apparently you just roll with it, because that's what you end up doing. "Alright, Calibani, translate for me please," you say, "I've got some questions for..." You stop and squint at the tiger pirate, and it regards you back with the terrifying stare of an apex predator. "For Captain Peter."
The tiger sits at attention, waiting for your queries. With a nod from Calibani, you begin to interrogate the big cat. "Alright, so..." You try to think of which questions would be most important to ask, but one keeps superseding them in your mind. "I'm sorry, but why are you a tiger? Like, were you transformed into a tiger or something?"
Calibani poses the question for you in a mix of growls and roars, and Captain Peter simply shakes his shaggy head in response. "He says he's always been a tiger."
"Then how did he get here?" you ask. "Tigers aren't exactly aquatic wildlife!"
After a translation by Calibani, Captain Peter begins growling and roaring back a very long answer, which takes your fishy companion a while to parse. "I think I have the jist..." Calibani says.
"Captain Peter was put in a cage by a nasty man. The nasty man took him on a big boat across the ocean, and Captain Peter was very sad and scared. A great storm came and shook the ship, breaking the cage and letting Peter free! He chased the nasty man off the big boat and onto a small boat, then ate the nasty man and was very happy! But he had nowhere to go, and was stuck on the boat for a long time. Eventually he saw a huge fish, and it tried to eat him, but he ate it instead. Eating the fish made him and his boat stronger, so he kept doing that, and now he and his boat are very strong!"
As the story is relayed to you, you place your palm upon your face and slowly draw it down as you process what you're hearing. "Alright, alright, fine, that makes enough sense," you tell yourself. "But where'd he get the coat, and the hat, and the eyepatch, and the goddamn hand-hook on his tail?"
After relaying the question, Calibani translates the tiger's brief answer, "From adventure." Frowning, she growls a followup question to the tiger, and gets another brief response. "I'm sorry, he's not giving me more detail than that."
Sighing, you ask, "Is he the only crew of this ship? I mean, it's huge, don't ships like this need a big crew?" You look at the tiger again and add, "Also, like, human hands to manipulate it?"
After some back and forth roaring, Calibani translates, "He is the only crew of this boat. It listens to him well, and has grown big and strong."
"What the fuck does that mean?" you ask. "Boats don't grow!"
"They don't?" Calibani asks. "I thought all living things do that."
"Boats aren't alive!" you say, only to remember some odd quirks of your own vehicle. "At least they're not supposed to be..."
"Huh. You learn something new everyday, I suppose," Calibani says.
A thought occurs to you. "Ask him how long he's been here."
Calibani relays the question then gives you the response. "Many days and many nights. He says that he has lived longer than any tiger has lived before out here, and plans to live longer still. As long as he draws breath, he will claw and bite and thrive out here on the sea."
It's not a specific answer, which should be expected from a creature that was not taught how to record and measure time (and hell, it's not like you've been doing a good job of it yourself), but it tells you what you need to know. If you are stuck here, that doesn't mean you're doomed. After all, a tiger's got some significant disadvantages you don't have to deal with, and if he made it this long, maybe you can too.
Still, that doesn't mean you want to stay here. "Ask Captain Peter what he knows about Dr. Neptune, whoever that is. If those notes are to be trusted, that guy might be my ticket home."
A good deal of roaring fills the air as you wait for an answer. "He says Dr. Neptune is... um... a bucket? With meat in it? A meat bucket?" Calibani shrugs. "I'm not quite sure what he's describing, but apparently this Neptune fella is pretty smart, but also strange? He lives in a... what?" She growls and roars back and forth with the tiger again. "He lives in a mountain shaped like a wrinkly butt."
"...a wrinkly butt," you say flatly.
"Yeah, like a monkey's butt, but covered in wrinkles," Calibani says. "Peter says Dr. Neptune does not like it when he calls it a butt, but that's what it looks like, and Dr. Neptune can complain all he wants but he chose to live in a butt mountain so what does he know."
"Does he know how to send me home?" you ask insistently. "I don't care if he lives in an actual asshole, I just want to go home!"
The tiger thinks for a while when this question is translated for him, before finally growling out a reply for Calibani to relay. "If anyone Peter's met would know, it'd be Dr. Neptune." More growling, more translation. "But Peter asks why you want to go back? There are nasty men at home. The sea doesn't put you in a cage."
That question stuns you so bad you feel dizzy, because you're not sure what the answer to it is. As you try to think of it, you feel your compass grow heavy in your pocket, and instinctively reach down, grab it, and reposition it so it weighs a bit less on you. "Tell me where I can find Dr. Neptune," you say, putting the tiger's question out of mind for now.
Captain Peter turns around and looks to the horizon, gesturing at it with his tail-mounted hook. "He says we should travel that way. It should be no more than a day's journey till we find Dr. Neptune's island. If we hit the island with jagged spines, we've gone too far."
"Spines?"
"He doesn't have the largest vocabulary," Calibani says. "I think he means rocks, or maybe mountains? He describes most things in animal terms."
"Alright," you sigh. "Those are directions are easy enough to follow, anyway." You think about any other questions you might have. "Does he have any weapons he can spare - a cannon, maybe? I just lost my harpoon, after all."
Calibani relays the message, and the tiger's eye lights up. He gives a growl before stalking up the plank back to his ship, then returns shortly afterward with a bundle of harpoons held in his jaws. "Oh, that's kind of him," Calibani says. "We have five to spare now!"
You think about how you would have preferred a cannon, but decide not to verbalize it. "Thank him for me," you ask Calibani, and she nods and growls to the tiger.
Captain Peter nods and releases several roars in quick succession. "He says to think nothing of it, and to remember the kindness of Captain Peter. He adds that he wishes us well on our journey, and that we kill and eat many a monster, so we too may grow strong." She gives the tiger a nod as he trots back to his ship. "Pretty pleasant fellow, huh?"
"...yeah," you say quietly as you watch the tiger climb up onto his pirate ship and sail away. Once more you're safe, and while you have more of an idea what to do now, you're still left with a lot of burning questions. Confused as to what you should focus on, you consult your compass.
