#for clarification this post is exclusively about like minds #i'm standing around here with nothing but crumbs like it's hansel and gretel okay i need more #i'm outside gregory read's door with rope and a tape recorder. i have questions and he has answers #first of all WHAT is going on between nigel and his father. why the animosity. why such hatred. what is the backstory #what were the family troubles that caused them to move in the first place #also i need him to look my in the eyes and say yes nigel WOULD in fact know how to play some type of classical string instrument #anyway ... #like minds #murderous intent

First: I don't think Gregory J. Read has the slightest fucking idea of what he actually made and therefore interrogating him is useless. I bought the DVD to listen to the director commentary track and...he is a numpty.

Second: I have Theories about Nigel and his dad. You could go two ways with it. Either his dad is just annoyed at how atypical Nigel is and the fact that his weirdness is so bad that they had to move him to another school, because he wants a perfect little model boy that he can mold into a copy of himself. OR, Mr. Colbie and his toxically hypermasculine fully-bought-in to the patriarchy self is aware of the fact that his only son is gay. Either way, he obviously isn't able to handle Nigel's neurodivergent, atypical, non-cishet self and has probably made Nigel's life deeply intolerable.

And either way, look at his terrifying unhinged rage in that final scene. Any man whose first instinct is to go for a gun when angry is a man who likely uses intimidation and emotional abuse to rule his home. I've been in relationships with wall-punchers. They don't get physically abusive, but they do use that rage as a tool to control others. And the reason for his rage, for driving home in a fury and not even parking the car properly or turning it off before he storms inside to confront his wife? The possibility that she may have made a fool of him to his little secret society bros. He's Important, he's the Big Man, and he cannot possibly allow his family to make him lose face. Imagine having THAT for a father.

On a final note: dear god the idea of that beautiful boy playing like a violin or something....with those wrists and those hands, and his delicate little angel face, and all that intensity....I'M DYING.
