In his own opinion this was a bit downgrading and almost lower class, but he could suffer a little less luxury for her.

In her opinion it was all too much. Why was he spending all that on her? She was not worth it and it was all redundant and unnecessary and not what she was used to, being raised with four older siblings in a little house, learnt to watch every little expense. Definitely not having enough to order lobster for dinner or fly to Paris just to watch the sunset from the Eiffel Tower.

So one day, sitting in the little cafe where the cheapest beverage (water) was 20 $ she decided to speak up.

"Dick..." the resolve to clear the situation died on her tongue.

Settling into University

Hi everyone, hope you have been doing well! I guess I forgot about this blog the last few weeks, but I wanted to make another post.

Things have been going pretty well lately. Sure the last few weeks weren't fun but everything went according to plan. At least I think so.

In my last post I had went back home from vacation. We were moving to another city 2 weeks after that so we got to work packing up the house. It was a bit hard for me, probably because I'm a bit out of shape. Still, we packed everything up in a week or so, and left my old house. I got a bit emotional, as that was my home for the last 14 years, but I guess I couldn't have stayed forever.

We had hired a moving company, so we left right after them. Our new home is still nice, a bit smaller than the old one but I think It's very pretty. Moving in was a bit harder because of the tighter corridors though, and we had to spend 3-4 days to settle in completely. Again, not very fun but at least going like planned.

I then applied for my Uni's dormitories. I think I was very lucky because I actually got played in one that's 5 minutes of walking away from my faculty! I can't drive a car so even though the dormitories aren't very comfortable (2 bunk beds in a 18 m² room, imagine that!) it should be nice to stay there.

I stayed a bit in there. The food is OK, but it's pretty cheap so I will probably eat in the cafeteria most of the time. The beds are OK, I chose the top bunk because they recommended it online but I'm sadly not used to the ladder yet, so I almost fell! (Twice xD)

Now I'm working on some entrance exams. They want to test our English to see if we can understand the lesson, so they added a couple of tests. I did well on the first one, which was mostly reading with some multiple choice questions, but I have two more. One will be a writing assignment and the other one will be speech, I hope I can do well!

That's all I did for now. Orientation starts next week and lessons the week after that do I'm very excited!! A bit nervous too but I'm sure everything will be alright. Goodbye for now, I wish you guys the best.

Rae: Technically speaking, I think being struck by lightning would probably enhance her existing mutation rather than giving her new powers, since her mutation is already energy-based in a similar way. But if she were to develop speedster powers... Spider: Honestly, most of his whole Death Angel apocalypse problems have resolved with that. It'll take some getting used to, and finding enough calories to sustain his powers is a challenge, but it's convenient to be able to outrun the murderous space aliens whenever he needs to lol

No writing but here's the idea: Single Dad Derek Hale deciding to go back to finish his degree and taking classes from newly minted professor Stiles and like maybe Derek's kids get sick but he /can't/ miss class so he sends a desperate email to Professor Stilinski and Stiles is like, it's fine. I didn't know you had kids, but it happens I get it. And somehow Stiles offers to come over and give Derek an overview of the lecture and the notes. AND obviously he wants to spend more time with Prof. S, because damn, he's just so amazing. XD and let's just say they actually live nearby each other and start seeing each other at the grocery store or the park. And Stiles sees Derek's kid as well, who he obviously falls in love with! OF course. But actually I was thinking Derek had like 2 or 3 kids...like Isaac and Erica… And maybe at one point he can get a bit overwhelmed, trying to combine it all, and Stiles can be there to support him! and meanwhile Stiles is like I shouldn't become so attached to a student especially since it's his first official year, but he's kind of falling for Derek so hard, and Erica calls him Batman which is awesome, and Isaac shows him his scarves and he's like damnit this is so far from staying professional, I'm going to get fired.

He might be a werewolf, but chasing after little Stiles and Derek through the woods has taken a lot out of him, and he doesn’t want a repeat performance.

Sterek Week theme involving crayons: wisteria, brown sugar, grand canyon, heat wave, macaroni and cheese. Basically Derek goes with Laura and her kids to the grand canyon and Stiles is their tour guide.

Derek wants it known that he did not want to go on this trip in the first place. BUT because he’s a very kind, giving, generous brother and amazing, wonderful, terrific uncle, he agreed to help out his recently divorced sister take care of her two sons and one daughter on a much needed family without that cheating, lying, bastard of a dad vacation. He could tell his sister really needed to be away, and quite frankly so did his niece and nephews, and there was no way Laura was going to be able to handle hiking/riding a donkey down the Grand Canyon with all three of them by herself. And, he had the time, had just gotten over a disaster of a relationship himself a few months back, and so he said okay. Plus, the pleading look Laura had given him after she told him about the trip was enough to get him to agree too. It was a vacation they all needed, really. But now that he’s here, riding a donkey named Wisteria, in what feels like a heat wave because he is sweating bullets with the sun beating down on him, he’s regretting agreeing to go. And the fact that their tour guide is sitting pretty (literally, he’s gorgeous) in front of them and Derek can’t help but stare at his ass (not the donkey) while they slowly make their way down the canyon.

Because August was a very busy month for me and my family due to some kind of serious health complication my brother had and having to go through a surgery, I ended up taking a proper break post being sure that he is recovering well (which has been recently, you could guess by the recent character drawings I did).

We have been all taking it easy at home (even dad is on vacation) and spending some quality time so I'm having mixed time when using the PC and now the new tablet I got as an early birthday present from bro which is still kind of bonkers to me but I am still super grateful :)

That said I will most likely spend the rest of september with this and most likely october too. I will still try work on the adopts but I, admittedly, don't feel like coming back to commissions just yet and I am very sorry to the folks who have been interested. The subject of having to do commissions to earn anything has been a mixed emotional bag for months now but I tried to keep it within my interest and work this way. It clicked for the most part tho until I had to take a break. And now I'm here XD

I do plan to do HKtober illustrations this year and since I don't have intended effort I want to put into them I might work on more stuff during the prompt weeks

That's about it. I just need some time to have fun with my own stuff so I can recharge on creativity a bit, get a better grip with this new tablet etc. The summer is basically over (it's 11C out hAH! <3) and I am finally feeling a mental recharge as well (really, finally, finally...)

Hey there! It's an okay question, and truth be told, I used to try to be really encouraging to people, because I want to see a lot of fun and small art. But as I get older, I want to try to be honest about it all, too.

Going to college wasn't especially helpful. Five years post-college, I was lucky to make the switch to full-time art.

Currently, my income comes from a mixture of conventions, Patreon, commissions, and game sales. I also live with my spouse Tsushi, who covers half the bills, and we don't live in a major city or expensive area. We planned a lot of stuff to keep our cost of living on the dirt cheap side.

Right now, I wouldn't say that I'm barely scraping by. Lots of people have it way, way worse than us, and I wouldn't be able to do this without favors and help from friends and family. But I do know that I'm overworked to an unhealthy extent, I haven't taken a real vacation in years, and if I stop overworking, I will lose the momentum that I currently have. Actually, switching to visual novels instead of webcomics WAS me trying to take care of myself.

I would highly advise that you enjoy your art as a hobby. It doesn't have to be a permanent decision! Building up a portfolio or an itch page is something that takes time, and that's how you'll find an audience. Even if you could drop twelve showstopper games in a weekend, it would likely take a while for those games to percolate through the community. I know it's not what you want to hear. But trust me: I've hung out socially with lots of folks who range from middling to INTENSELY popular, and overnight mainstream success is horrible for a person's soul, especially if it happens to you in your 20s.

I'm not starving, but I do eat a lot of bulk rice in my diet. XD I'm not living in squalor, but I miss when I could afford to go to GenCon. If my gamble on the VNs doesn't work, I might just end up picking up a day job of my own and having to spend nights working on stuff again, instead. Nothing's really certain. But for now, I'm doing the best that I can with the games and stories I can tell, and I'm deeply grateful for the patrons who keep my weird little raft afloat.

And so I had another week in PA, since one wasn't enough. Today I feel myself much more refreshed and alive again. I think to start traveling and camping to stay away from toxic people and so can revive my traveling vlog. Today I have drone, nice gopro and even camera, what might be much nicer experience to share and be more creative. Thus, currently I have on my mind to set up my traveling IG vlog, where I will promote future book and do those fancy meet-a-stranger picture-to-question things xD And also Expedition Mango, I like that YouTube channel much.

By the way I was also working in PA, helping Marco to set up Heating & Cooling system. Now I know how to do that by myself. He said I'm very good worker and grasp things quickly... no shy. He even paid me for the job, though I didn't work much.

Want to share some weird thing, at least weird for me. Their kid Milana is 9 y.o. and like most kids tries to copy parents. So I've collected 96 new and used books this year and I think it's gonna be my goal next year to read them all. It's entirely doable, I just don't know if it's doable, you know? Like, I could read them in a few months if I just went at it, but that's not really how I read books anymore.

I ordered a bunch of stickers for my coworkers and some of them came already. They look nice!

Right after Christmas, my family is going on a vacation to Israel, Egypt and Petra, which I can't really think about right now because I'm too tired and it'll stress me out, but after that trip I need to stop adorning l spending so much money. It's easy enough to stop, so I just have to.

I'm not gonna give up seaweed snacks though. I love those things.

My parents did the same trip that you are about to make I think! And they both had a really good time. It was ages ago tho, long before me and my sister B were even born, and, as they like to say "when they had money and time to travel and no kids to take care of". I hope you don't get too stressed about it if you can help it, and if you can't, that you can synthesize that stress maybe talking with some family member?? I'm going to respond to all of y'all in one go so this doesn't end up splitting off into a bunch of different versions. And also thank you all so much I'm extremely delighted by how much joy has been sparked by this post.

When I'm worldbuilding the details are honestly my favorite part. Both because they are what usually make it into the fics themselves and because the devil really is in the details it makes such a difference in getting that feel of the story just right and the world feel real.

I knew before i was two episodes into watching my firs esmp s1 pov that i was in big trouble. It's such a fantastic world to play with.

I'll definitely be doing more things like this as I go. Its the longest post I've made about the world-building so far but probably will not be the longest by the time all is said and done.

People are fascinating on a personal and societal level and I love playing with it when I write, especially the interaction of those two levels. On the most basic of levels, the realization that "different does not mean wrong" is such a good foundation for telling a story. and of course we love us some "unlearning preconceptions" as a side dish XD

One of the reasons that I originally decided I was going to be telling this au via what will more or less be a series of one-shots from the pov of the entire cast (aside from the fact that short fics are my usual style) was that I really want to be able to show the assumptions that everyone makes about everyone else and explore where those come from and what the broader implications of them are.

It is exactly a quilting circle. It's a quilting bee its a corn-husking its a barn raising. It's many hands make light work and a way for the community to sit down and spend time with each other and check in and make sure everyone is okay and taken care of. Community Tasks are so important and every culture, real world and in this au, has versions of them. In Rivendell its shearing season, in the Ocean its the kelp harvest, in Mezalea it's cleaning and gutting the catch after the fishing boats come in, in the Lost Empire its harvesting and drying the cocoa beans, and so many others.

My social circle is almost entirely made up of people who are involved in fiber arts in some way and yeah, there is absolutely no way that Xornoth didn't get at least one very threatening talk from a little old elf lady who is like, half their height and wears her knitting needles in her hair. (They are very, very sharp knitting needles)

I genuinely haven't decided if they have alpacas yet. I've been leaning towards no, and they have just bred llamas for fleece but I haven't decided for sure yet.

Look I'm not saying that Rivendell has several different county fair style events...but I'm not not saying it. (I have said it before actually. kind of. Look, the two modes of perception for Rivendell from the other empires is "those weird snooty elves" and "those weird mountain hicks". And the secret third mode which is Helianthia pointing and being like "hey! same hat!")

hello this is an invitation/request to ramble about textile production in rivendell vs the swamp in the arranged marriages au I am very curious about this thank you

Most of this is going under a cut because it is going to get a bit long and rambly and is 100% as much an info-dump as it is a worldbuilding post.

the TLDR is Wool VS Linen

MOSTLY INFO DUMP PORTION

Rivendell:

The majority of Rivendell textiles are wool-based.

They do import some silk from the Overgrown but that is reserved for special occasions and items. Mostly silk threads are used for magical stitching and silk fabric as a center lining for leather and chain armor.

Almost everything else is wool.

Most of their wool comes from sheep but they also have llamas, rabbits, and goats that all are domesticated for this purpose. (Wool as a term refers to any fiber obtained from an animal, even if some of it is technically hair, for textile purposes it is wool)

Most of their export is sheep wool, they have, in fact, increased their sheep herds specifically to accommodate export in the recent decade or so as they open their borders and form alliances beyond the Overgrown.

Wool is an incredibly versatile fiber. It's water resistant and thermal properties make it ideal for the snowy mountain terrain of Rivendell's territory. It can also be made into fabric so fine it is literal gauze. It can be felted it can be knitted it can be woven. Saying Rivendell's textiles are almost 95% wool does not accurately convey how varied those textiles are. Generations of Rivendell elves have spent their ~500 year long lifespans coming up with new things to do with wool.

And its not just from sheep.

Rabbit wool is most commonly used for items like underclothes or baby clothes and blankets.

Llama wool actually comes in two distinct forms, because Llamas have layered coats. Originally they were used as beasts of burden but were also, over the generations, bred for fleece as well. Their rougher outer coats are used more for things like rope and cordage, the inner fleece is similar to rabbit.

Llama is also the least common wool, since it takes about two years for a llama to regrow its coat after shearing and they aren't exactly the most space efficient of livestock. The fleece is one of the luxury exports sold mostly to foreign nobility who want to feel fancy and brag about their "exotic [insert item here]". The outer coat fibers are mostly sold as cordage, which is excellent quality and in high demand in the seafaring nations. (This is also due to elvish craft-magic, more on that later in the worldbuilding-focused section)

Goats are a full range from coarser fibers to fine soft ones. It functions much the same as sheep fiber, just with a lower yield. Goats are primarily used in the outer villages of Rivendell in the highest, sheerest cliffs where they are more suited to the terrain than their moor wool-laden cousins.

The Swamp:

Most Swamp-made textiles are linen.

Mostly made from flax and/or hemp. (Yes, that kind of hemp, go ahead, make the jokes.)

(Hemp grown for fiber is a different variety than hemp grown for more recreational reasons. It has a much lower THC and the plant itself is a lot larger. I'm not saying they don't grow the other kind, and use it medicinally, but it isn't relevant to anything I will be writing. If that's your wheelhouse you are welcome to take this and run with it.)

Linen is a lightweight and absorbent fabric that is ideal for hotter climates so it is very common to see in the Northern kingdoms. It's absorbency does mean it dirties and starts smelling fairly quickly but it is also a very resilient fabric that takes washing well. It also has the default state of "wrinkled" which, to someone accustomed to other types of fabric, does lend itself to looking rather unkempt. (You see where I'm going with this.)

Like wool there is a wide range of fabrics, ranging from the ultra fine and soft to coarser, more Textured pieces. (basically, the underclothes to sail canvas range) both flax and hemp, especially the latter, are also used to make cordage and hemp in particular is often used to make macrame and beaded jewelry, irl and in the Swamp. Fishing nets are also a common product.

Textiles are not a notable export of the Swamp so there is less to say there.

IRL flax linen makes up some of the oldest surviving fabric and clothing samples, dating back thousands of years.

Flax fibers are not elastic, they don't stretch and shrink while worked with and don't have a lot of give. This does make working with it in the process of fabric making somewhat difficult and requiring a lot of skill. The resulting fabric though is incredibly durable so its a trade off.

The Mostly Worldbuilding Portion

This is just going to be a bunch of disorganized bullet points really

A significant portion of the flax used by the Swamp from linen production is grown and harvested in Helianthia and brought to the swamp for manufacture. This is actually the primary threat Mythland represents, (you know, besides rampant destruction and harassment along the border) is interrupting that trade route. They do also grow their own but do not enough for what is needed.

Elvish magic is almost entirely based around fiber arts. Embroidery, knot-work, charms stitched into seams and knitted into the very makeup of a garment. Wool and Gold. (gold-thread embroidery is powerful stuff) A side effect of all of this is that when small Xornoth started setting things on fire and small Scott sneezed frost it was a pretty solid indication that their magic was a bit more directly divinely sourced.

Related, elvish rope is reliable. It doesn't degrade or break or even cut easily. (This is straight from Tolkein but it works too well not to poach)

Elves build things to last, a single elf-made garment can last for several human generations. At least.

Net making/repair in the Swamp is one of those community tasks that a lot of people sit down together and do while socializing. Almost everyone has at least the basic skills required.

Generations worth of irreplaceable historical tapestries were lost when Xornoth burned down the Rivendell palace during their coup and every time the weavers and artisans and historians of the kingdom remember that they come very close to being assassinated.

Aaaaaa where do I even begin??? Before I ask more tickle related questions, I wanna know more lore ish questions specifically. I remember an aspect I got super excited about the first time was learning that the land of the gods seem to have specific domains? Can I know just a bit more about those?

It seems HD has a world of clouds that react to his thoughts and emotions. Does XD have one of his own? It seems he spends a lot of time wandering the SMP, we also know canonically he seems to have access to the end, and we've seen that realm of gears and clocks in Tales of the SMP. What do you like to go with? The description of HD's place was just so pretty.

EEEEE I'm so happy for this question because I have wanted to talk about this one for a WHILE. Please bare with me as it's also a long explanation

The Realm of the Gods is a sort of hub world for the Gods. It's where Gods go when they are no longer needed/wanted or they just choose to live there now. It is a vast infinite space so each God can choose to have their own domain in the realm which, if they spend enough time in that space, will start to connect and correspond to them. Taking HD as an example. His domain is just a void of colours which respond to his emotions and switch based on it, similar to the colour strips on his cheeks. BUT, since he's still a needed/wanted God he does have his own personal God Realm for himself which is a land of clouds. The domain he's in in the God Realm still responds to him personally however, which is mostly for his need of wanting more blankets and pillows to sleep or to make him disappear.

XD does have one of his own, but I made designs of it before the Tales episode and I'm too stubborn to change it lol. Since XD is God of the End (at least in the AU, I don't think that's canon but don't quote me on it) his personal realm is in the End which he doesn't go to much of anymore. He has made himself a little pocket dimension on the Overworld however which is where he stays and that's usually the glade spot that I use in certain fics.

I always see the Realm of Gods as a retirement or vacation place for the Gods and there's no gatekeeping or violence there either. Since its an infinite space, if one God has a problem with another all they need to do is just walk away and probably never see each other again, and if one God starts trouble that gets shut down real quick since the thousands of other Gods there just want to chill.

Another few fun facts about the God Realm because i LOVE this place so much: 4K was the one to help HD basically set up his domain in the Realm. The two Gods met in the Realm of Gods Drista stays in the God Realm to work on her powers more as she wants to be more Godly than mortal Non-Gods also go through the Realm. It is extremely rare for mortals but a few other creatures can go there, such as Demi-Gods, spirits, demons, angels
