A/N: This is something that was requested by a friend in a discord I'm in! And Childe is my comfort character, so who am I to decline?

- Loves carrying you. Bridal, piggyback, whatever. He loves it and even if you say you're too heavy or that he wouldn't be able to do it while holding something else he will make it his mission to prove you wrong. Please let him, he is much stronger than he looks and he will not stop until you let him.

- Enjoys having you in his lap. It's one of his favorite ways to cuddle, whether your back is against his chest and letting his head rest on your shoulder/against your back, or you're facing him and he gets to listen to your heartbeat. Either way, he has dozed off like this.

hey, i know you've talked about how part of the unique way QM is constructed comes from you not liking comics much but seeing it as a way to convey stories through illustration before, but as someone who relates to that, i'd like to ask if there's any piece of media (in comic form or any other medium, really) that breaks up the standard format of its respective art medium you enjoy/draw inspiration from when designing visual elements/composition? (its cool if there are none/you just don't feel like answering it btw i don't wanna bother)

i'm an animation enthusiast first and a human being second, and i was actually studying to eventually go into animation before i got too sick to stay in school, so most of my inspiration comes from there. probably only a couple surprises in this list but nonetheless ill go over my main inspirations

obviously into the spiderverse is the first and immediate thing i'd list for stuff i find inspiringly format-breaking of it's medium. in a way, what they're doing there is the exact opposite of what i'm doing - they wanted to make a movie that invokes reading a comic book, but i'm trying to draw a comic that feels like my favorite animated media.

the compositions and color design in spiderverse is the best in the game with almost no competition but i like the way they invoke paneling at key moments to show multiple things concurrently on the same larger frame and that's definitely part of what i've invoked

ethe revues in revue starlight are also some of my favorite bits of compositional work. they have these fantastic setpieces that they user to frame the fights and theyre all chock full of meaning and characterization, with the bonus being that since fight scenes happen rather fast the comps all have to have a very strong initial read.

like wow!!! just look at these!!! such beautiful stuff! i'll never get sick of watching them

and even if the show itself has no interest to you i really think everyone should watch the revues theyre sick as hell.

stole these screenshots from a medium article because i could so easily get distracted combing mob psycho for screenshots right now but mob psycho has a ton of fantastic compositions, a really fun blending of art styles, and a willingness to warp physical space for more interesting shots that make it one of the best looking animes of all time. 

cartoon saloon’s films (secret of kells, song of the sea, etc) are also a master class in shape language and geometric compositions. they’re unparalleled when it comes to heavy shape language over realistic perspective in animation. also the most effective use of intentional tangents in character design i’ve ever seen.

samurai jack was also DEEPLY formative for me in childhood. most of the screencaps i can easily find are from the newest season which i never actually saw, but the show has always had strong shapes, strong colors, and strong comps.

there’s also books my parents read to us as really young children that ABSOLUTELY left an imprint on my psyche

graeme base’s eleventh hour was one of my favorites because the whole book was this mystery about who ruined this fancy animal party and there were coded clues hidden in the book in the illustrations or their decorative frames. just really fun, whimsical, and detailed drawings

jan brett’s childrens books were always really cool as well, with their decorative borders that had other story elements happening in them alongside the main illustration. 

i spent a lot of time poring over these as a kid

then something i’m realizing now as i write this post is that my love of just drawing a ton of objects cluttering a drawing as a means of storytelling definitely stems from the i spy books. 

like these are all just DELIGHTFUL! theyre so much fun to look at and theyre literally designed to have you pore over everything. they’re devoid of life and motion, completely static, but still so alive and vibrant and dreamlike despite that. they absolutely beg your imagination to run wild thinking of where these objects might be and what they might be doing together and what it says about the imaginary person who owns them. i really just think theyre fantastic. maybe i should go buy some i spy books... im honestly kind of feeling it rn... id hang these up as prints i love them so much.

this one’s a bit of a pull but i really enjoy the illustrations from the card game dixit for similar reason. dixit is one of my favorite games, and the way it plays is you have to describe, narrate, or caption these abstract illustrations in a way that gets some, but not all of your fellows players to accurately guess what card you’ve played. all of the illustrations are rather simple with only a couple of main visual elements happening every time but once again, the elements are whimsical and dreamlike and offer a ton of depth in the story you can imagine around them. 

overall i think all of these things combined do a decent job of building up the underlying philosophy that dictates the way i draw, which is that everything should read very clearly immediately, but have enough detail, intrigue, or elements less grounded in reality that it invites a lot of speculation about the supposed narrative you’re being presented, or the artist’s intent. all of the stuff i’ve linked here you can tell what’s generally going on very quickly because the visuals are very well constructed and pleasing, but then there’s a ton to unpack in these clean visuals once you get down into the detail or concepts.

this definitely got long and self indulgent but i hope it gave you something to think about!

No, he fucking doesn't. I already wrote a bunch of examples from the books you seeminly ignore willfully. First of all, she is sold to those olive skinned savages by a white man, who is a terrible, increadibly evil man. He want's to fuck the then 11-12 ish Dany so bad, she picks his slave most resembling her and rapes her repeatedly, "until the madness pass." He also maimes children and traines them as disposable slave spies by the hundreds. There is no boundaries colour here, GRRM prtrays all kinds of people as reprehensible, evil and disgusting. Just like you can find plenty of examples to the opposite.

What is he drawing from your exploitation movies exactly? He writes about the human anture, he writes about the human heart at war with itself, that's his central philosophy of writing.

ASOFAI is basically just a porn movie with complicated feudal politics obscuring it, which is probably why it worked so well as an HBO series (up until the last two seasons or so.)

There is no gratuitous sex scene in the books, the rapes are described as rapes, they are horrible, they are very shortly described and usually just alluded to.

The people commiting them are not put into generous lights and one of the single most harrowing stories hidden behind the grand happenings of the plot is a girl named Jeyne Poole, whose suffering although never shown, is very much pointed out, along with the hypocrisy of the people who only fight to try and save her, because they think her a different person.

Honestly, if you actually read the books and they came of to you as porn, you might want to do some soulsearching.Btw, the HBO series was a terrible adaptation, it immedietly started to go further and further from the books with every passing season and the showmakers made it very clear to everybody, that they didn't understand the very much pacifist and humanist themes of Martin. And neither did you.

We also get no indication Essos will eat it when Winter comes; hell, they seem to not know Winter exists, given the way people act, even though that is also unrealistic and weird.  Essos was just super badly designed, and Dany is a terribly boring character.

Rereading the Nate/Cami PoA (such a great one btw...) Made me wonder are we ever going to read the "first time" for any of the Queen kids? I would be super interested to know (my guess is Will's is the best and Nate's is the worst with Jules and Ellie in between) Are they with anyone special or more casual? How old are they (I'm actually really curious about that last one). Obviously the first time won't be the best nor is it the most importance but it can be a pretty big deal so I'm just curiou

The Queen kids’ first times... 

First of all, since we were already talking about Nate and Cami, I feel compelled to point out that Will would not have made the same choice as his baby brother in the same shoes. But let’s talk a little about the kids’ early love lives...

Will

Even when he’s younger, Will has no problem getting girls. He hadn’t changed his name yet in high school, but even then it’s not like it was a secret that he was a Queen. His dad’s pretty involved with his life, comes to his ball games and all. That would have to add to his appeal. But on top of that, Will’s charming and funny and kind of ridiculously adorable. He’s that affable guy that everyone gets along with and most of the girls have some kind of crush on. Some of his teen years were a bit rough - he did not take his mom getting married well - and he spent a fair bit of time at around 16 (when she got married) avoiding his house. He hung out with friends more, hung out at school more and he definitely dated more. 

The first girl he slept with would have been someone he went out with for a few months. I think she had a huge crush on him and hung out with her friends at his games entirely to watch him. He was a little oblivious about how into him she really was and she probably took their relationship more seriously than he did. He’s not really into his ‘super casual dating only’ mode yet, but he also wasn’t looking for something long-term with depth. I don’t think he gave it a whole lot of thought. He was 16 and this cute girl kept showing up and blushing when she tried to talk to him and it was fun. So they went to dinner and miniature golfing and some school dance she wanted to go to. They hung out listening to music and he tried to teach her to hit a baseball. It was fun for a few months and he was pretty freaking excited when he got her shirt off the first time. She was the one who brought up sex and he was definitely 100% on board with that plan immediately. 

The sex itself was... okay. Neither of them knew what the hell they were doing. But, even as excited as he was, Will had enough presence of mind to slow things down and pay attention to body language. He’s good at that and it surely helped her experience. At the time, I’m sure he thought it was great. It sort of wasn’t, but hey... he had a good time (and he was safe... Will always, always, always uses a condom) and it sort of opened the door into a new side of his life because it’s not like Will looks back. He gets pretty hooked on sex and girls from that point on. He and that girl - who I have not named or cast - last a few more months (which I don’t have plans to cover right now). But she gets clingy and it gets awkward and she’s all doodling their names together in hearts on her notebook and he’s like nervously laughing in his own head because... no. They break up and she’s totally heartbroken and Will learns real fast that he needs to be clearer about what he’s looking for when he’s dating, both with himself and with any girl he’s seeing. He manages to keep things pretty casual for the next few years. It’s only when he starts dating Allison that things get serious for him. 

He goes back and forth later about how he felt about Allison, alternately thinking that he’d never really been in love and admitting to himself that he’d loved her and seen that relationship going somewhere. It’s complicated in his head and it’s hard for him to admit to himself that he loved her and it still didn’t work out. But he did. We’ll meet her at some point. 

 Jules

Jules is 19 when she sleeps with Miles, who is her first. They date for like seven months in 2034. In some ways, it’s good because she loves him. He’s older than her by a few years and he’s not a virgin, but he’s a little clueless anyhow. He’s aware enough to be concerned with how she’s feeling, if she’s uncomfortable or if it’s too much, but he doesn’t really know how to make it enjoyable for her... I think he sort of just assumes it is because it is for him. He’s a pretty self-centered guy, even if Jules doesn’t see that yet. Ultimately, she’s emotionally happy she did it, but physically awfully let down because while it didn’t hurt as badly as some of her friends have said, she also really thought it would be a lot more fun. We won’t see this directly, but we’ll see some reflection on it after the fact for sure.

Her next lover is a total flip of that. Tyler is entirely sex with no real emotional attachment. BUT... he’s way more experienced and definitely knows his way around a woman’s body. Jules learns a lot about sex and a lot about herself and what she likes from him. And I think both of those experiences are really important for her, in part because Jackson will prove to be a combination of the two and she can recognize both the emotional and physically satisfying connection for how special it is.

Ellie

Ellie only does serious relationships. Or, at least, she tries to. And she’ll sleep with her first girlfriend, Chrissy, after a few months. This is 2036 and she’s not-quite 18. Chrissy is basically her first everything. Ellie likes her a lot, but she is still very definitely in love with Sara. It’s a problem for her and part of the reason she keeps escalating things with Chrissy. She’s trying to force that relationship to mean more than it can. It’s a really important relationship for her because she learns so much about what she likes and what she wants versus what she doesn’t. She learns to be more comfortable with her own sexuality. But, is it great? Ehhhh... I mean she tries really, really hard to make that relationship work, but she also just really wants Chrissy to be Sara. It’s sabotaged from the very beginning. They date about six months, breaking up at the end of senior year, but I think when it ends it’s something of a relief for Ellie because she’s sort of figured out that she was inadvertently trying make Chrissy be a fill-in for Sara and that’s not fair at all. 

Her next relationship, with Rachel is a little better because at least she knows what she’s doing. Unlike Chrissy, Rachel looks nothing like Sara and Ellie very much focuses on trying to push down her feelings for Sara and just focus on Rachel. It works and it doesn’t. She definitely manages better than she did with Chrissy, but it’s also something that always takes effort and that in itself is a bad sign. We’ll see both Chrissy and Rachel eventually and you’ll definitely get a sex scene with Rachel, but probably not with Chrissy.

Nate

Nate’s the oldest of the kids before he has sex. And this will probably be covered. He’s 20 and in college - this is in 2042 - and he winds up in this ‘friends with benefits’ thing with a girl in his class for a long while. I’m looking forward to this storyline because Nate’s clueless as hell and it gives some great opportunities for awkward bonding with his dad and brother about girls. I haven’t named the girl yet, but we do have a model for her... 

 Basically, I’m not sure any of them have an awesome first time. First times are rarely awesome. Will was happy with it at the time. Jules found it emotionally great, but physically blah. Ellie just desperately wanted it to be more meaningful than it was. Nate was sort of terrified (so worried about accidentally hurting her because he’s a well endowed guy and awfully damned clueless about what to do). But none of them had a bad experience, either. 

Aaaaand I’ve now spent two hours answer this lol. So I have to make myself be done and go write instead. I still have like 10 more asks in my inbox, but most of them will have to wait until tomorrow, I think. Sorry, guys! Gotta write too!
