How do you feel about CoD boys in a monster au? Whether they’re the monster or their s/o is the monster, I just think it would be neat. I’m partial towards werewolves but honestly I love anything that goes bump in the night. I LOVE the idea of a monster being afraid of hurting their partner but their partner knows that they could never hurt them. If you’re open to monster requests, I have so many ideas. Just… monsters, man

I absolutely love monster AUs, one of my faves is @/bluegiragi's and I'm sure you all know that iconic one. I'm totally open to monster/hybrid requests, and a detailed list of what other things I write can be found in the cafe's Customer Service Policy aka rules :]

And monster-related plots? I'm a sucker for that shit, need more of that and monster!reader.

If I were to make a Monster Hybrid AU with my own specific ideas though, hmm...

Powerful and stoic, Price would make a great minotaur (lower half of a bull). Sure, maybe his back isn't what it used to be, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have the strength to send you back to your maker. Every step he takes on base acknowledges his presence, a posture that demands respect from its witnesses. The horns on his head aren't something to mess with either, though it takes him ages to scrape out the dried blood from the cracks and tailor his bucket hats.

On the other hand, the canine hybrid for Soap is oddly charming. Similarly to a werewolf, he would have the senses of one, but as a just hybrid, he's unable to fully transform. Instead, he's equipped with features like ears, tail, fangs, some fur on his arms and legs, and a longer tongue. I can see him being a border collie, the Scottish sheepdog just makes sense. But a kelpie/merfolk would also work with his callsign. Soap, a mischievous water spirit known for "cleaning out" rooms of enemies? A body with slick scales, gills, and a frilled mohawk when in monster form? Yeah, I can definitely see that.

For someone with a Queen's honor, a phoenix feels right for Gaz. Bright and burning wings and tail—a light that feels regal and elegant, yet so youthful and lively at the same time. With him in the sky, you're guaranteed to be safe under his watch. Or maybe a cervitaur with those doe eyes of his, gorgeous as ever. Yet equipped with a kick that's sure to shatter the ribs of those who mock him for being just a faun with a pretty face.

Undeniably, with such a specific callsign, Ghost can't be anything other than a wraith. Maybe mix in a bit of demonic blood, soul-eater tendencies, or even marks of an incubus for a little extra kick. His scars look more like shadowy cracks in his skin, smoke pours from the concerningly realistic skull he wears, he looks more like a reaper than a spirit. Regardless, this man is a shadowy phantom that provokes the fear of gods in whoever he sets his target as.

Roach, sure maybe his energy is fitting of a satyr or something more fitting and urban for our token American, like a roach version of Mothman. Bug wings and scales similar to the structure of an exoskeleton, But Roach came to be for being nearly indestructible, like the bug. In fact, it would be more accurate to call Roach, Roaches, as a bogeyman with a human body that can crumble into a swarm of those insects would explain why gunshots and explosions can hardly stop him.

Like Ghost, we can't deny who Hound is, either. Werewolf. Anything less would be criminal. For fun, mix it in with a bit of hellhound hybrid biology, so that he has to either go as a full hellhound or a human with hellhound features. Eyes that burn like Tartarus and a fanged snarl that even Cerberus would shudder at. Maybe even make him in charge of a hellhound K-9 unit, forced to face the very thing he fears.

As for the Reader? Well, that's up to you. Personally, I'm a little fond of shapeshifters. Might need to draw some of these ideas sometime...

Ah well, just some thoughts I had. Any other spitballs you guys have?

Some Random Merthur aus I've read over the years

I've seen a lot of people asking for fic recs lately, so I've been going through my history and realized that I've read A LOT of random, non canon-related merthur aus, some of which became some of my favorite fics, so I just wanted to share for anyone interested.

i found you amidst the waves by TheDragon: I'm an absolute sucker for any sort of pirate/merfolk aus and this one absolutely delivered on what I was looking for. So basically, merman!Merlin gets captured by Arthur's crew, and the story covers how their relationship changes on their way to the mainland. It's got angst, and enemies to lovers, and some pretty cool art embedded too.

Tributes by TheAvalonian: Ok, so this is a Hunger Games au. Honestly, I was a bit nervous to read it at first (bc, yk, Hunger Games), but I actually really enjoyed it. It was one of those fics where you end up staying up through 4am bc you NEED to know how it ends. Obviously, warnings for character death and ANGST (so, so much angst), but it's absolutely worth the pain in my opinion.

To Be a Hero by fancyh: On this list, this one's probably my ABSOLUTE favorite, and I haven't found anything quite like it since. So, it's a superhero/vigilante au with detective!arthur thrown in for spice. HIGHLY recommend for anyone that likes all the drama that comes from hiding a secret identity, misunderstandings, Bamf Merlin, that sort of thing. And pining. There's a LOT of pining.

Merlin's Stagnant Cottage by lovelyal: Howl's Moving Castle au. 'nuff said. It's a fun read, and I fell down a rabbit hole of steampunk aus after this (which are really interesting in their own right, so if you're curious you should check out that tag too).

A.S.S. (Agents of Secret Stuff) by supercalvin: This one's a lot lighter than the ones above and is also a series of one-shots in the same universe, so you could theoretically read them out of order if you wanted to. Some are a bit cracky, but that just makes them funnier to me.

I have a lot more than this, so maybe I'll compile a part 2 later. And if anyone has any more recs, let me know!

//So I'm thinking in the Mermaid!AU every human (and maybe Jessica Rabbitfish) is a merperson in this world and all the toons are sea creatures. Roger is a rabbit fish, Baby Herman's a grumpy puffer, Benny's a stingray or eagle ray, the Toon Patrol are eels. I think only Jessica is the one toon I would say to make a mermaid in this and even then the merpeople are half aquatic so her and Roger being together shouldn't be that weird. Also, genius, you coming up with her lower half as a lionfish that's perfect! Imagine her singing in an underwater cavern and her fins are like fans that add to her "dress." The rest of the toons are tropical reef fish, sharks, octopuses, crabs, lobsters, rays and various anemones and nudibranchs!

Also I think Eddie would be named Edmar and in his past he was a sort of undersea mediator, like a detective who complies and upholds with the laws of merpeople. He has a walrus or maybe sea lion's tail and was having quite a nice time living on an island near the surface before he was called down to the depths again. He hates actually going down there...a deep sea fish killed his brother. His seal wife Delores comes to bring him food and accompany him and try and coax him back into the water but to no avail. Until a rabbit fish comes looking for help. A fish has murdered a merman. Not hunted him...murdered in cold blood. This is very serious. So Edmar has to brave his fears and venture down there to help solve the mystery.

I love all of this! Especially how you included Eddie and Dolores. I'm an absolute sucker for content of those two being the couple ^^

I also like how Benny is a stingray/eagle ray! Kinda like Mr. Ray from finding Nemo. Maybe he let's the little fish ride him ^^ and I definitely want to see Baby Herman puff up in iritation XD

Also Jessica being a mermaid too despite being a toon is actually kinda genius. While making the film, to make sure all the actors would be able to look like they were actually looking at toons and not just air, they made little dummies of the toons. Except for Jessica, who had a human actress stand in her place. So Jessica did have a shot at being a human technically XD and here, she's a mermaid right along side the rest of the merfolk.

Okay, now that some random dork was kind enough to provide me with that AU list link, I can finally answer this question. Of the many many AUs listed (and a few that aren't), here are my faves:

Badger Cereal / Daniel Masters: Father&Son Vlad and Danny bonding, can be evil. I'm a sucker for any kind of relationship featuring Vlad and Danny.

Blue Danny: Danny is blue as a halfa/ghost. I'm partial to green (the green and pink color scheme of Danny and Vlad respectively is my #1 reason) but I also love the idea of Danny being a blue ghost. Maybe he starts out as green but then, once he develops his ice powers, he becomes blue. I think it's a great look for him.

Cheese Melt (Vlad tries to be a good parent to Dani). Lilianade-comics is totally to blame for this. I love this AU.

Dani Masters: Vlad decides to raise Dani as his actual daughter. (See above.)

Family Breakfast: Vlad/Maddie/Jack. Because Vlad deserves to have friends who love him.

Ghost Hunger AU: halfas/ghosts must consume ectoplasm. I like this because it's neighbors with cannibalism, which I'm also a fan of.

Immortal Danny AU: Danny turns immortal/never ages. I've basically adopted this as my personal headcanon. (The tragic immortal, doomed to watch everyone he loves die...) It works for Vlad, too, and is a great device to get him and Danny together.

Lab Rat / Dissection: Fentons experiment on Phantom and/or Danny. Angst. Gore. Vivisection. Mwa ha ha!

MerAU: The ghosts are actually mermaids. I'm obligated to enjoy this because merfolk AUs are kind of my Thing™.

Monster Appearance AU: Danny’s ghost form looks grotesque or like a monster. I'm on board with this because canon is absurd. You're telling me the kid who looks just like Danny Phantom and even shares the same first name has nothing to do with him? And his own parents don't see the resemblance? Come on. There has to be a reason no one recognizes him.

Secret Experiment AU: Maddie and Jack intentionally turned Danny into a halfa. I've never heard this one before but I like it. Lots of opportunity for Danny to flee his abusive parents and go running to the other half-ghost they abused (intentionally or otherwise)—Vlad.

SCP AU: In which Danny is either captured by the SCP Foundation, Fenton Works is a branch of the SCP Foundation and Danny/the other ghosts are SCPs. I had to look this one up, but it sounds pretty neat. I'm all for taking some of the show's more ridiculous aspects (like the GIW) and renaming/reshaping it into something other than a stupid, barely-funny joke. (I know, I know, kids show. Fuck 'em, I want my scary government organization capturing and torturing halfas.)

There are plenty of other AUs not mentioned in this list that I enjoy, such as the Ecto-Cancer AU, Ghost Heat AUs, Vampire/Cannibal Vlad AU, and other things of a decidedly gross and/or horrifying nature! 😄

What's your favourite dp au?

I swear I've seen a list of all the Danny Phantom AUs floating around somewhere, but I can't for the life of me remember where I might have seen it. The list is so long that I wouldn't be able to give you an accurate answer without first seeing all the options.

The love story of a shark and an octopus Part 6 :

Chatter filled the halls of your school as you swam here and there filled with excitement and nostalgia. Only those who looked closely could notice your slight feeling of anxiety. Feeling overwhelmed was normal for anyone returning to school, but the chances to return from long-term distancing could have more impact.

You didn't recognize any of the merfolks passing by, which was expected considering that old classmate of not. None approached you at all, they all just swam away like they always do.

Yet today felt different, sure people would stare and whisper to each other as you made your appearance (there was also that one merman who fainted upon seeing you for some reason) but it wasn't the usual: "OH NO! [NAME] IS HERE !" "AAAAAAAAAAH SWIM FOR YOUR LIFE !"

The memories of old times made you chuckle, it wasn't the brightest of moments nevertheless the comparison was rather big. And speaking of big, goodness gracious have you grown since the last few months! Other merfolk looked so small from your perspective, you had doubled in size- wait no quadrupled in size, my dear god.

You then managed to find your class but familiar voices made you freeze. "Floyd! will you stop this drama already ?!" "Eh~ but that's no fuuun~" "Come on, we have to get to-"

"INKYYYYYYYYYY !!!!"

A loud bang resonated in the school as you tackled Cecelia to the ground with the biggest embrace ever. "OW! WHO DARE-"

"?!"

"...[n-name]...?"

you lifted your head from his chest, still hugging him, and grinned sheepishly with tears welling up in your eyes. "..Surprise !" Azul had changed just as much, he looked...transformed.

You stood in mere silence for oh so long as the tako remained at loss for words. His expression seemed so hurt, he extended a hand gently cupping the side of your face. "Y-you...you're-"

"Azul ! what is-" the leech twins came up to the two of you in a hurry, only to shortly have their faces go dumbstruck. The awkwardness was deafening and you then weakly spoke "I'm back..?"

"[Name]...[NAME] !"

Azul immediately pounced onto you, almost slamming both of you back on the floor. His tentacles grabbed ahold of your tail on instinct, the suckers were surely going to leave a few marks but you were too happy to care about anything else anymore.

"You're back! You're here !" Azul was uncontrollably sobbing into the crook of your neck and so were you. You placed a firm hand on his head and back, "I'm home..I'm home, Inky !" you couldn't stop smiling stupidly and laughing out of relief. Ink was spreading everywhere but why did it even matter ? Azul was here. He was in your arms. He was with you.

His grip on you became stronger and your moment was predictably interrupted by two wonderful brothers. "[NAME]-SAN! [NAME]-CHAN !" another noisy thump boomed out as the tweets joined in the group hug. Sending all of you flying straight into the wall.

"I missed you guys so much ! You all look different now !" you gushed at the boys and laughed. "We missed you too same-chan~ !" Floyd added, "It's true, you've also changed quite a lot as well !"

*Same in Japanese means shark, I thought it would be original since tako is used for azul. Anyone is allowed to correct me if I'm wrong.

You missed Floyd's usual habit of offering nicknames more than you thought it would. The trio stayed glued to your side for a few more minutes, uncontrollable sobbing and weak laughter was all that could be heard and finally they loosened their grip and let go. Azul stood in front of you silently, you could tell by his expression that thoughts were racing through is mind, his grip on your shoulders was tense and his fingers were slightly trembling.

you smiled warmly and pulled him into a more gentle hug this time, "Listen, I'm sorry for everything...the fight, the injuries. You had nothing to do with all of that and-" "Stop it."

Azul spoke coldly making you go silent as he continued, "Stop apologizing, I don't even care anymore I'm just happy you're back..."

His returned the hug as he placed his head on your shoulder, "Just don't do that again."

You then softly chuckled, "hehe..I don't think I will anytime soon."

"Oya Oya did we come in at the wrong time ?" Jade teased as Floyd quickly joined in, "Oooooh are you going to kiss ?" Azul immediately turned around to face them, face flushed red while you were just laughing your head off at the tweels antics. Floyd started making dramatic kiss noises at Azul who tried to scold them for being immature.

This day will be alright after all.

Second of all, love the fantasy au, I'm a suckers for fantasy and ESPECIALLY fantasy that involves water powers and witches so, have you thought of a way to how witches would work? also since cove it's half a merfolk does that mean that his water powers are limited?

okay so, for the witches i'll answer that in a separate ask so um, stay tuned?

to make things clear, though (mind that some of these details may change): merfolk are blessed by the sea domain, it favors their kind and gifted children of the sea with passage and healing through it's waters. true merfolk seem to lack the ability to shapeshift, however, and can only manifest and retain a human form through enchanted items like charms and potions. most of the merfolk population has the ability to bend water, though it's more like the water responds to a mer's wishes. in other cases, they're actually more in tune with the aquatic vegetation than they are with the waves. but honestly, merfolk kind of just function like children of poseidon ("percy jackson" wise, books specifically)

as for cove and his magical properties (again, this may change in the future): basically as a half-mer he has the abilites of any other merperson, however his version is watered down*. - even if the waves may not respond to cove as well as it responds to kyra, the sea's healing properties applying to true merfolk do not lessen when you're a half-mer like cove. - being a child of both sea and land dominions, cove is gifted the ability to shapeshift into a (partly) human form. - that more human form of his actually still allows him to be perfectly fine underwater under some conditions. - like, he can't swim down as far as he can in his "mer" form, and also the water's temperature has a bit of an effect on him in comparison to his other form which is abundant with scales.

hi I know you’ve just finished field work so pls dont take this the wrong way kay, I'm only asking out of love. Do you have any sastiel fics planned for the future? Regardless of your answer to that, tell me about your favorite tropes or just like, general Stuff, when it comes to both writing and reading those two together. Everyone’s got different tastes right & i think is always fun to see people explaining (or trying to explain) why they're into certain stuff

Oh heck yes I have more sastiel I want to write, don’t you worry.

I want to try some canon!verse scenes. I’ve spent a lot of time writing Castiel, but didn’t study Sam’s character closely until I launched off on the first draft of Field Work. That story was posted this year, but the process of finishing and editing it was about two years’ worth of work.

If there’s a story concept or an AU you’d really like to see me tackle, I’m all ears! Just let me know. After all, Field Work came from a random request on the sastiel tag - I saw it, and in a few minutes the scenes from the first chapter were in my head.

This ask tickled me so much, because I would love to talk about sastiel but I’m better at answering questions than trying to write an organized Ship Manifesto. So now I have a relatively narrow avenue of attack!

That said? I’m still gonna write paragraphs.

I’m busily working my way through the sastiel available on ao3, but I can tell you right now that I’m always a slut for Castiel reassuring Sam that he’s Worthy and Lovable and A Good Person (and for Sam to do the same for Cas). I’m also a big, BIG fan of anytime Castiel gets to talk to Sam about the Big Bad Shit that’s happened in a way that gives them both relief and bonds them, if not absolution (because sometimes absolution just… well… isn’t appropriate or possible). Castiel getting to apologize/explain himself for the choices he made that negatively impacted Sam, and vice versa, and each discovering that they’re still loved and valued by the other because they have a similar tendency to judge themselves more harshly, and fail to forgive themselves, while forgiving their loved ones even when the consequences of poor choices were horrific. Good God these two need a confidante and a champion (and a mitigating voice), and I love it when they find it in one another.

Also, it should be noted, I prefer to take my Castiel the way I take my coffee; that is to say hot, strong, and bitter af. I love it when Castiel is characterized as the soldier he is, with real doubts about the chain of command he came from and a massive distrust of authority. I love it when his battle scars are as relevant to who he is as Sam’s are to him. I love it when Castiel is a sarcastic shit who struggles to take orders even if they came straight from the Big Man himself. And I love it when Sam is internally rage-y, fighting his own temper and his own demons, when he’s drowning in self-loathing, when he takes zero shit, when he questions Castiel and comes back at him and stands up for himself (and others). Trust is slow coming between a couple paranoid war vets with PTSD and a Complicated History so fraught with lies and broken promises you could write a soap opera on it. And yet. Both of these guys are the grand fucking champions of giving people second chances and letting past offenses go - I think they need each other. To help one another heal. To remind each other that they’re not monsters. To remind each other that there are good goddamned reasons to keep on keepin’ on even when the skeletons in their respective closets are dancing the fucking samba. Being a good man isn’t something you’re born as. It’s not something you lose with a single mistake. Being a good man means taking responsibility for and the consequences of your actions, actively caring, and trying hard not to repeat past mistakes - and those are things they both already do. Red_River’s story “Light Up the Sky” has a fantastic quote from Castiel that I think succinctly sums this up:

“You are no monster, Sam Winchester,” Castiel told him, the words less than a whisper.  “You are not the best man I have ever known, but you try the hardest to be.” 

So, spiraling off into AU territory, there’s a couple things I really like in that regard. I’m a sucker for Magical!Sam (thank @awabubbles!), and she’s got a story series started where White Magic Sam accidentally summons a badly wounded Soldier of God Castiel (have I mentioned I love Soldier of God Cas? Because I so fucking do, omg). Just, you know, think about Sam tending his hothouse full of rare plants while Castiel (who isn’t healing as fast as he expects to be healing, dammit) follows him around like an irritated cat. Don’t touch me, don’t touch me, don’t touch me, wait don’t leave my sight dammit don’t touch me, wait okay rub my ears while I shove my face into your lilies.

I also adore non-paranormal contemporary romances (Castiel is a firefighter responding to a minor fire in Sam’s apartment building, aaaaand go~), high fantasy sword and sorcery (especially if it involves Castiel as a knight, have I mentioned I like soldier Cas? I have, haven’t I?), historical romances, and I hear there’s some excellent merfolk fiction but I haven’t as yet gotten to it. To be honest, I’ll give anything a fair shake at this point. I’m still discovering the fanfiction that’s out there, so in six months Idk, I could be begging for locked-room mysteries or something.

The thing I love the most about sastiel is how supportive the fandom is. Everyone is so encouraging about everyone else’s work - if you wanna write a thing there’s always someone else like ‘YEAH! Do the thing!’ And y’all show the fuck up. I cannot begin to express how much it meant that people were reading what I wrote and telling me about it. It’s renewed my commitment to leave feedback on works as well, because I want to pay it forward.

Sure, there are things I’m definitely not interested in reading that are out there in the sastiel tag, but I’m not here to throw down a list of Stuff That Annoys Me - I’d rather talk about the stuff I love. That seems to be the modus operandi of the community as a whole, and that gives me so much life. I hope it never changes.

Don’t worry - I’m slow as fuck but I’m not going anywhere.
