Identity

I'm gonna go ahead and treat this like an actual blog. The first thing that comes to mind when creating a blog is identity. A blog reflects who someone is as a person, where their interests lie and what makes them tick. Looking at the content I like to put on here, I suppose I am some kind of nerd mix. Super hero movies, anime, idols — all subgenres that I like to busy myself with. However, I don't ever know a whole lot about a certain thing. Have I seen that super hero movie? Sure, but I haven't seen the interviews with the actors, haven't jumped headfirst into the conspiracy theories and haven't read any of the fanfiction that's been written about it. Have I seen that anime? I've watched ten episodes and somehow I then stopped watching it, because I got sidetracked and started watching three other series, which I also half-assed. I know that idol, know that group, but I stopped checking up on them for some reason, and now I feel silly going back to them even though it's only been a year. I cosplay, but I'm not very good at it. I doubt myself because of my bad body image, but I'm also not stubborn enough to give up on cake or start jogging again.

My identity always used to be linked to someone. I was X's daughter, Y's friend. A few years later I started being A, B or C's girlfriend for a while, but that never lasted long. I always tried to bend my identity until it fit someone else's perfectly. Don't we all want a perfect partner? Generally, that is what we like, but after some time our imperfections start to show. Anxiety, depression, self-doubt. When you're like me, that's the point where you start panicking and bolt, because you know you fucked up. Nobody likes having to pick up that extra 40% when all you can give is 10. It's funny, I'm always too stubborn to go for a run, but it appears I've been running all my life. My love life is like a SIMS game. I use a few cheats at the start so I can be really happy for a while, but after a while it just becomes frustrating and I want to start over, and so I do.

These last few years I've been nobody's girlfriend, so I tried to bend myself to my friends' personalities instead. That went well until that went south very fast. Now I'm scared about letting anyone in my life, so I have a few close friends and then a bigger circle of people surrounding me. I'm not sure if they like me or not, and I'm not sure whether or not I want to know. Ignorance is bliss, right?

Right now I am the friend that procrastinates. I'm the friend that is loud during the day and annoyingly tries to make others laugh so I can laugh along like everything's fine, so I can collapse at night and start over in the morning. I am the person who needs to get help, get therapy, and is too scared to find out everything that is wrong with me. I'm scared to bring up what's been hurting me for the past 25 years, and I'm scared to hear what I need to do to fix myself. I'm scared of texting that one girl first and telling her how great her eyes are. I'm scared of running into my ex and feeling the urge to apologise. Again. I'm scared of being stabbed in the back by another friend, or disappointing my parents even though the chance the latter will ever happen is nonexistent.

Every 11:11 I witness on the clock, I wish for happiness, in whatever shape or form it may come. But I feel like I'm somehow cheating again, like happiness is something you should provide for yourself instead of wanting some deity to provide it for you.

I'm almost certain I can provide the answers too my questions if I get help, but as ever I'm too scared to find out. I don't know much about my identity, but I'm pretty sure right now it could be better. Someday I might find out exactly who I am, and how to be happy. I look forward to that.
