nobody ends up caring after a certain point because a crime lord getting educated is the least of their problems right now
Concept; because he's like 19 and suddenly in charge of a LOT of funds, the Red Hood takes accounting classes to manage them all. Not Jason Todd, Red Hood

There is an AITA out there that I can't find but it's been haunting me for weeks with visions of semi-angsty Steddie that I need to release onto the world. (If anyone happens to know what I'm talking about hit me up and I'll link it)
Edit: @jazzathebunny found the original AITA from Reddit linked Here for anyone who wants to read it. I'm definitely not doing exactly the same premise but this was my jumping off point 😊
Part Two! ------
Modern AU, Eddie and the guys are a moderately successful local band in the Chicago area playing gigs on the weekends and doing small tours whenever they all have the time. Gareth and Jeff are both in college while Eddie and Freak are both working part-time at a game store. Eddie managed to lock down that assistant manager position that lets him work 30 hours a week with weekends off for gigs. All in all, it's a pretty sweet deal and they can't complain.
Eddie had sworn off dating after a small handful of disastrous relationship attempts in their first year in the city. He dismisses any advances from people who attend their shows and tries not to think about how much he wants to make a genuine connection with someone and have something real. He's been burned one too many times to try and make something with someone he met in a bar or at work.
He knows the guys talk about it behind his back sometimes, he catches Jeff and Gareth fervently whispering to each other and stopping when they catch him entering the room one time too many to not suspect they're talking about him and he can't think of anything else going on in his life that they would feel the need to whisper about.
The fervent conversations take a slight uptick one day and about a week and a half after they do, Gareth hits him up and tells him he wants to set Eddie up with a guy from one of his classes. At first, Eddie is skeptical and cites all the reasons why he doesn't want to try with anyone right now but eventually, Jeff jumps in to plea the case and Freak jumps in on top of that and under the combined weight of his best friends he agrees to meet up with this Steve guy.
The guys set up the whole thing and before Eddie knows it it's Saturday night and he's wearing his best black jeans and a gray button-down, untucked, to go on an honest to God blind date like his life is some low-budget romcom.
Steve is not at all what Eddie thought he would be. Not the kind of guy he thought his friends would pick out for him given they know he usually goes for other alternatives like himself. Steve, who is shyly waving him over and getting out of his seat to great him, is the very epitome of prep. Well-fitted polo, light blue chinos, and what Eddie assumes this guy thinks are casual loafers. He's handsome to be sure, a 12/10 at least with perfect hair and defined biceps but Eddie is fairly sure he's being punked.
But, Eddie doesn't want to be rude so he goes to meet Steve at the table, confirming just in case that he's actually here to meet with a guy named Eddie. Steve gives him a bit of a confused look, saying that Gareth showed him a couple pictures of Eddie before he agreed to meet and figured he'd done the same for Eddie off Steve's Instagram. Gareth had, in fact, not done anything of the sort but they both dismiss it and get on with their date.
In all honesty, Eddie is expecting it to be a complete wash, but it turns out that even if Steve is not at all what Eddie would have previously said what his type, Steve is damn near perfect. He's funny, kind, a little bitchy, and even though he proves himself to be every bit the sports nerd he looks like he doesn't turn his nose up at Eddie's own much more classically nerdy interests. By the end of the date, Eddie has a new type and that type is Steve Harrington. He's quick to lock down a second date for the next weekend which Steve happily agrees to. They exchange numbers and Steve gives Eddie a chaste kiss on the cheek that has him floating all the way home.
Steve texted him that next morning letting him now he had a great time and is really looking forward to their next date and Eddie thinks this might be the start of something big for him. When he gets to practice he's clearly still floating on cloud nine and in his own little world designing their marriage invitations and matching tombstones so he doesn't notice the sly grins on his bandmates' faces.
"So...how'd it go last night? Everything you dreamed it would be?" Gareth asks, a strange glint in his eyes that Eddie doesn't clock.
Eddie goes on and on about how nice Steve was and how he might be The One, thanking Gareth profusely. Freak looks pleased for him, giving him a hard pat on the shoulder in congratulations but when Eddie finally tunes back into the real world he's greeted by Gareth's livid expression and Jeff's overly concerned one.
He asks the guys what the fuck is up and it turns out that Gareth and Jeff set this whole thing up as a prank of sorts. Eddie was never supposed to hit it off with Steve who Gareth selected specifically because he's a "totally brain-dead prep" and as far away as someone could get from Eddie's previous relationships. He was supposed to be someone Eddie could go on a date with and not form a connection with without getting completely burned at the end like all his previous relationships in the hopes of getting him out of his slump.
Jeff was in on it as well. He wanted to get Eddie back out there, so when Gareth presented the plan he sat in on a couple of Gareth's general credit business class sessions to help pick the guy out.
After Jeff and Gareth finish explaining he does a complete 180 and just...leaves. In any other situation, he would be raging and verbally tearing his friends a new asshole but instead, he completely disengages and walks out the garage door, ignoring his friends' shouts to come back.
He goes back home, socked and hurt and so very confused about how the hell he found himself in this position when his phone lights up.
New Message: Steve H.
Fuck.

Part two coming soon??? Maybe???? We'll see.

Tumblr media
the autumn air was crisp, golden leaves swirling across the university courtyard as students hurried to their morning classes. the faint scent of coffee and fallen leaves lingered in the air, mixing with the distant hum of chatter and footsteps against cobblestone paths. it was the kind of morning that made people pause for a second, taking in the poetry of the season—well, people who weren’t already running late.
you weren't late, but you sure weren’t in a rush either. the café near the library had just handed over your classic hot cocoa, still warm against your palms, and the world felt like it was moving at a slow, dreamy pace.
that was, until a familiar figure cut through the crowd like a scene straight out of a high-fashion editorial.
yang jeongin.
jeongin, the so-called nerd, of at least your year. the one with the perfect grades, the sharp jawline, and the ever-present black glasses perched on his nose. the one people assumed spent all his time buried in textbooks, immune to the chaos of university life. except, he wasn’t just a nerd—he was a walking contradiction.
because if jeongin was just a nerd, why was he stepping onto campus dressed like he belonged on a runway?
today, it was a black oversized blazer with a fitted turtleneck, silver rings glinting against his slender fingers as he adjusted the leather strap of his bag. his glasses sat perfectly on the bridge of his nose, giving him an air of quiet arrogance, like he knew he looked good but didn’t care enough to acknowledge it.
his dark hair was slightly tousled, as if he’d just stepped out of bed looking effortlessly perfect. and the way he walked—like the world was just a backdrop, and he was the main character—made people stare without even realizing they were doing it.
jeongin definitely had an idgaf attitude, you had thought when you first shared a class. not towards his studies—no, he was practically married to academic excellence—but towards people.
he didn’t care for the unnecessary drama, the loud parties, or the fleeting conversations about nothing. he had a small, trusted circle and didn’t entertain anyone outside of it.
which was exactly why you found it so fun to mess with him.
“morning, topper,” you called out, stepping in line with him as he made his way toward the lecture hall. “where’s the rest of your nerd squad?”
jeongin barely spared you a glance. “not a nerd,” he replied smoothly.
“yeah?” you sipped your cocoa, unfazed. “you literally corrected our professor’s math last week.”
“he was wrong,” the guy shrugged.
“yeah, but who does that?”
“a person who values accuracy,” he deadpanned, his lips twitching slightly.
you simply grinned, as you walked alongside him. your friend group always teased you for hanging around jeongin, saying you were probably the only person brave enough to bother the university’s golden boy.
he wasn’t mean, exactly, but he had a way of making people feel like they weren’t worth his time.
which was true regardless.
still, you had made it your personal mission to crack his icy exterior.
“so,” you continued, “you ever been on a date, topper?”
he slowed his pace. it was so brief that most people wouldn’t have noticed, but you caught the slight hesitation before he turned to you, raising a perfectly shaped brow.
“what?”
“a date. you know—dressing up, awkward small talk, trying to impress someone so they don’t ghost you after?” you clarified, voice laced with amusement.
jeongin adjusted his glasses, looking unimpressed. “i know what a date is.”
“great! so, have you been on one?”
for a second, he just stared at you, dark eyes unreadable behind his lenses. then, in a tone so nonchalant it almost sounded careless, he said, “no.”
you almost choked on your drink. “wait, seriously?”
he continued walking, unfazed. “yeah. why? is that surprising?”
“duh?” you huffed, catching up. “you’re, like, weirdly hot for a nerd. i thought people would be throwing themselves at you.”
he scoffed. “that’s the problem. i don’t care about people throwing themselves at me.”
you tilted your head. “then what do you care about?”
he continued walking, completely nonchalant as he gazed up. the morning sun caught the silver of his rings as he slipped his hands into his pockets, tilting his head slightly.
“why?” he mused, voice smooth as ever. “you wanna change that?”
you blinked. for the first time, you were the one caught off guard.
because jeongin wasn’t looking at you with his usual passive expression. no, there was something in his gaze—something sharp, something challenging, something that almost looked like interest.
and you, for the first time in your life, had no idea what to say.
flirting with a nerd shouldn’t be this hard.
the crisp morning air suddenly felt warmer.
you were not the type to get flustered easily, but the way jeongin had just looked at you—head tilted, hands in his pockets, voice smooth as hell—all the while walking straight ahead as if he hadn't just lowkey flirted with you—wasn’t fair.
it wasn’t nerdy. it wasn’t normal. it wasn’t jeongin.
since when did nerds flirt back?
you narrowed your eyes, stepping closer to mask your sudden loss of composure. “that sounded like a challenge.”
“maybe it is.”
you blinked. okay. this was new territory. you were used to jeongin rolling his eyes at you, shutting down your playful jabs with a bored look. not this. not him flipping the script so effortlessly.
but two could play that game.
“well, topper,” you hummed, leaning in slightly, “if you want me to take you on a date, you should just say so.”
his smirk didn’t waver, but you caught the quick flicker of his eyes—the way they darted to your lips before meeting your gaze again. he adjusted his glasses, his fingers briefly brushing against the silver rings.
“i don’t recall saying that,” he mused.
you grinned. “you didn’t deny it, though.”
jeongin exhaled through his nose, amused, before turning back toward the lecture hall. “come on. we’re already late.”
you watched him walk ahead, your heartbeat a little too loud in your ears.
what the hell just happened?
— inside the lecture hall
the class was already half-full when you and jeongin entered, the air buzzing with lazy morning energy. some students were half-asleep, slumped over their desks, while others were whispering about weekend plans.
the professor hadn’t arrived yet, but the massive whiteboard was already filled with equations from an earlier class—long, intimidating numbers that you barely had the mental energy to comprehend.
you spotted your some of your friends near the middle rows. felix, ryujin, and yeji were sitting together, with an empty seat next to the blonde. across the hall, the nerd's own 'gang'—jisung, hyunjin, seungmin, aeri and yunah—was all huddled near the front.
as you slid into the seat next to felix, he raised an eyebrow. “you were talking to jeongin again?”
“yeah?”
he leaned in, lowering his voice. “bae. people actually think he hates, like, everyone.”
you scoffed, unbothered. “well, i’m built different.”
ryujin, who was casually scrolling on her phone, smirked. “or maybe you just like hot twi— nerds.”
“he's not tw—”
yeji cut you off, nudging the other two. “what’s the bet again?”
felix only grinned. “y/n would either break jeongin’s cold exterior or completely embarrass herself trying.”
“so far, it’s leaning toward the second one.”
you groaned, shoving felix’s arm. “so i'm as valuable as a bet now?”
meanwhile, across the room, jeongin was already in his seat, casually flipping through his notes. jisung nudged him with an exaggerated smirk.
“was y/n hitting on you again?”
jeongin adjusted his glasses. “probably.”
seungmin, looking unimpressed, leaned back in his chair. “and you just let her?”
jeongin shrugged. “she's entertaining.”
aeri cackled. “you so have a crush.”
“i don’t.”
“right, right.” jisung rolled his eyes. “that’s why you’re smirking to yourself like a roblox character right now?”
jeongin’s smirk immediately disappeared. “shut up.”
— after class, the campus café
after suffering through an hour of math (or thriving through it, if you were jeongin), you found yourself at the campus café, sipping on some watermelon juice you had gotten. the café was a cozy little spot near the library, filled with the soft hum of conversations and the clinking of coffee cups. the warm lighting made the wooden interior glow, and the air smelled like cinnamon and espresso.
you were sitting with felix and ryujin when jeongin entered.
of course, he looked annoyingly good again.
and of course, he had changed his attire after class.
noon's outfit: a fitted cream turtleneck under a tailored charcoal gray coat, paired with black trousers and sleek leather boots. his silver rings caught the light as he pushed his glasses up, scanning the menu like he wasn’t aware half the café was stealing glances at him.
you sighed dramatically. “does he ever look bad?”
felix smirked. “that’s what you’re worried about?”
“no, i’m worried about myself, because apparently, i’m developing a thing for well-dressed nerds.”
ryujin raised an eyebrow. “oh? so you admit it?”
at that moment, jeongin’s gaze flickered over to you. your eyes met. and instead of just nodding or ignoring you like usual, he did something that nearly made you drop your drink.
he smiled.
not a smirk. not a teasing glance. a smile. dimples and all.
you blinked, stunned.
felix leaned in, whispering, “oh. you’re so done for.”
and for the second time today, you really had nothing to say.
the art of losing (to a nerd).
jeongin had smiled at you.
not a smirk, not an i’m-better-than-you glance, but an actual smile. dimples, soft eyes, the whole deal.
you were losing your mind.
“i—what—he—” you sputtered, gripping your juice like it held the answers to the universe. “did he just smile at me?”
felix sipped his iced coffee with an amused look. “yup.”
ryujin smirked, barely glancing up from her phone. “congratulations. you’re officially the first person outside of his nerd cult to get that privilege.”
“oh lord.”
across the café, jeongin had already turned back to the counter, unfazed. he ordered his usual—black coffee, no sugar—before casually making his way to a corner booth. he moved so effortlessly, extremely nonchalant.
you, however, were still stuck on that smile.
what did it mean? was he just being polite? was he messing with you? did he—
felix snapped his fingers in front of your face. “hello? earth to y/n? you’re staring.”
you blinked. “i am not.”
ryujin raised an eyebrow. “you totally are.”
felix leaned in, grinning. “wait. wait. are you blushing?”
“no.”
“you’re so done for,”
“first stage of denial: over.”
“i hate the both of you.”
. . .
a few days later, you were at the campus library, attempting to study. spoiler: it wasn’t going well.
the problem?
a nerd sitting across from you.
it wasn’t planned. you had been minding your own business, laptop open, notes spread out, when jeongin had materialized in front of you, dropping his books onto the table with an air of casual dominance.
“reserved seats don’t exist,” he had said when you had gaped at him.
so now, here you were. stuck at the same table, trying (and failing) to ignore each other.
you tapped your pen against your notebook, sneaking a glance at him. he was focused, dark eyes scanning the textbook like it was the most interesting thing in the world. his glasses slid down slightly, and he absentmindedly pushed them back up with a knuckle.
how was it possible for a nerd to look so effortlessly cool?
“you’re staring.”
you flinched. “observing.”
jeongin didn’t even look up. “creeping.”
you huffed, crossing your arms. “you are so full of yourself.”
a smirk. “you’re the one staring, not me.”
you scowled, ready to retort, when an idea hit them. a terrible, wonderful idea.
you leaned in slightly, lowering your voice. “you know,” you mused, “if you ever need a break from all that.. nerding, i can take you on a date.”
jeongin finally looked up, raising a brow. “are you seriously flirting with me in the library?”
“why? is it working?”
a pause. then—
jeongin leaned in too.
too close. close enough that you caught the faint scent of his cologne—something woody, expensive, unfairly attractive.
“you tell me,” he murmured.
your brain short-circuited.
felix was right. you were so done for.
. . .
you had two rules in life.
1. never get involved in unnecessary drama. 2. never—ever—fall for a nerd.
unfortunately, han jisung existed solely to ruin both of those.
the set-up (aka jisung's dumb idea)
"so, uh… i kind of need a favor."
jisung plopped down beside you in the campus café, grinning like he hadn’t just uttered the most dangerous words in existence.
you, munching on a cookie, didn’t bother looking up from the textbook you were pretending to read simultaneously. "no."
"you don’t even know what i’m asking."
"i know it’s stupid."
jisung pouted. "wow. no faith in me at all?"
you finally sighed, setting the cookie down. "fine. what’s the favor?"
jisung clapped his hands together, practically vibrating with excitement. "so, jeongin has this family thing coming up, right?"
"okay… and?"
jisung leaned in, lowering his voice like he was about to reveal a government secret. "his parents keep nagging him about dating."
"and why is that my problem?"
jisung grinned. "because you’re fake-dating him now!"
silence.
you stared. "i’m what?"
"you heard me."
at that exact moment, jeongin—who had just arrived at the café (wow magic) —froze mid-step. he turned to jisung with a glare sharp enough to cut glass.
"what are you doing? no!"
jisung pouted. "come on, dude. your mom keeps asking about your nonexistent girlfriend, and y/n is perfect for this!"
you smirked, propping your chin on your hand. "perfect, hm?"
jeongin shot you a flat look. "don’t."
jisung, ignoring him, continued excitedly, "think about it! y/n’s hot, pretty, you two already bicker like an old married couple, and—"
jeongin cut him off. "i’d rather die."
"well, damn," you muttered, feigning offense. "you could at least pretend to be a little enthusiastic about fake-dating me."
jeongin turned to you, unimpressed. "i’d rather explain quantum mechanics to a toddler than date you."
you grinned. "you know quantum mechanics?"
"that’s not the point."
jisung threw his hands up. "guys! focus! jeongin, do you want your mom setting you up with random girls?"
jeongin clenched his jaw. he hated when his mom did that. every family event ended with some aunt introducing him to their neighbor’s niece, followed by exhausting small talk and forced compliments.
his eyes flickered to you, watching him with that stupidly smug smile. you probably weren’t taking this seriously, right?
good.
because he wasn’t doing it.
"no," he finally said. "not happening."
jisung groaned. "dude. it’s one dinner."
"still no."
you leaned in, resting your elbow on the table. "you’re really against the idea of dating me?"
jeongin exhaled, looking you dead in the eye. "fake or not, i wouldn’t date you if you were the last person on earth."
you grinned. "good. that means i can flirt all i want, and you totally won’t get attached, right?"
"oh yeah? wanna bet on it?"
"oh you're on, yang. i'll flirt with you as much as i want for-"
he cuts you off, "-one month. a whole week of me buying you snacks and lunch on the line. if you win."
"hmm, scared much? why not make it three months and i'll actually leave you alone after it all?"
"oh this is fun." jisung only stared between the two.
"bet."
jisung clapped his hands together. "so it's settled! you two are fake-dating!"
"i never agreed to this," jeongin muttered.
you simply took another bite of your cookie. "too late, topper. we have a date to plan."
jeongin swore under his breath.
this was going to be a disaster.
. . .
the night of the dinner came faster than jeongin would’ve liked.
you, unfortunately, were thriving.
"so, babe," you teased, nudging him as you walked toward the fancy restaurant where his family was waiting. "are we holding hands or what?"
jeongin shot you a glare. "no."
you pouted dramatically. "you’re so bad at this."
"i don’t want to be good at this."
you sighed. "fine. but i am calling you ‘babe’ in front of your parents."
jeongin stopped walking. "don’t."
you smirked. "babe."
jeongin groaned, rubbing his temples.
this was hell.
so, the second you stepped in, jeongin’s mom beamed.
"iyennie! you made it!"
you nearly choked. iyennie?
jeongin shot you a look that screamed, say a word and you die.
you, of course, took mental notes for future bullying.
his mother, looking as happy as ever, turned to you, eyes lighting up. "and this must be your girlfriend!"
you smiled sweetly, reaching for jeongin’s arm. "yes, ma’am! i’ve heard so much about you."
jeongin stiffened. his actual nightmare was happening.
his mom clapped her hands together. "oh, she’s adorable! and so polite!"
jeongin shot you a glare.
y/n, in response, squeezed his arm.
. . .
the dinner had barely started, and jeongin already wanted to disappear.
his mom was in full hosting mode, greeting everyone at the long, beautifully decorated table like she was running a royal banquet. his dad, more relaxed but equally nosy, sat at the head of the table, eyeing jeongin and you like you two were the most interesting thing in the world.
and then, of course, there were the relatives.
the visiting relatives.
which jeongin had not been informed about.
"aunt nae is here?" he whispered to his mom in horror as they took their seats.
"of course! she and minji wanted to see you, and they had to meet your girlfriend," his mom whispered back, beaming.
jeongin shot a look at you, who was way too comfortable in this situation, greeting his relatives like you'd been part of the family for years.
he exhaled sharply. this is fine. one dinner.
you turned to him, grinning. "jeonginnie, babe, scoot closer."
jeongin flinched. "what the hell did you just call me?"
"jeonginnie," you repeated, full of amusement, before turning to his mom. "it’s my nickname for him. cute, right?"
his mom melted. "oh, that’s adorable!"
jeongin clenched his jaw, gripping his fork like it was his last lifeline.
you were having the time of your life.
"so, y/n," jeongin’s dad started, leaning back in his chair. "tell us about yourself. what are you studying?"
you smiled, setting your chopsticks down. "music and literature."
jeongin’s mom clasped her hands together. "oh! a creative soul!"
jeongin muttered under his breath, "more like a chaotic soul."
you kicked him under the table. he barely held in a grunt.
one of jeongin’s aunts, a well-dressed woman in her late fifties, eyed you curiously. "and how did you two meet?"
before jeongin could stop you, you smoothly responded, "in the library. he was too shy to talk to me at first, so i had to make the first move. such a baby, right?"
jeongin nearly choked on his water. "that’s not—"
"oh, my," one of the older relatives gushed. "that’s so cute!"
"it really was," you continued, ignoring jeongin’s silent death glare. "he kept glancing at me over his books. adorable. my little nerd."
jeongin took a slow, deep breath. "lying is a sin, you know."
you turned to him with a sickeningly sweet smile. "so is being grumpy at your loving girlfriend, babe."
jeongin gritted his teeth. "i hate you."
"no, you don’t."
the rest of the table ate this up.
minji, his cousin, sighed dreamily. "you two are so cute together."
jeongin gave you a sharp look that screamed, look what you’ve done.
you only smirked.
and so, the dinner continued, filled with stories, laughter, and jeongin’s silent suffering.
until his father, casually sipping his drink, said, "we should invite y/n to the family trip next month."
silence.
jeongin’s brain short-circuited.
"excuse me?"
his dad smiled. "the family trip! your mom and i were just talking about it the other day. since y/n is part of the family now, she should come!"
jeongin nearly passed out.
you, on the other hand, simply blinked. "family trip?"
"oh, yes!" his mom clapped her hands together. "a whole week at the beach! we go every year, but this time, you’ll be joining us!"
jeongin stared at them in horror. "no, she won’t."
"of course, she will," his dad said firmly.
"we’ve only been dating for a few months!" jeongin protested.
his mom tilted her head. "so?"
"so?! that’s too soon for a family trip!"
you, who had been silent, leaned in slightly. "i mean, i do like the beach."
jeongin whipped his head toward them. "are you kidding me?"
you smirked. "what? i think it could be fun, babe."
jeongin clenched his fists. "i hate you." (keep counting guys !!)
"no, you don’t."
the table broke into excited chatter about the trip, completely ignoring jeongin’s very obvious distress.
this wasn’t happening.
this couldn’t be happening.
but it was.
and you were enjoying every second of it.
. . .
the evening air was crisp, a sharp contrast to the warmth inside the restaurant. the soft glow of the streetlights cast elongated shadows on the pavement, flickering with the occasional movement of people walking past. somewhere down the street, a car honked, followed by the muffled laughter of a group of university students spilling out of a nearby café.
none of that mattered to jeongin.
because he was currently standing outside the restaurant, rubbing his face aggressively while you stood beside him, grinning like you had just won the lottery.
as soon as you had left the restaurant, he had dragged you to the side, glaring.
"you just had to play along?"
you shrugged. "what was i supposed to do? say no and make it obvious?"
"yes!"
you smirked, tapping your chin. "hmm… too boring."
jeongin groaned, rubbing his temples. "this was supposed to be one night."
"well," you said cheerfully, "looks like we’re fake-dating for a month now. hope you’re ready, iyennie. oh, and this doesn't mean our bet is off the line now."
jeongin groaned louder.
this was hell.
"you're enjoying this," he accused, voice flat, eyes burning into them.
you smoothed the skirt of your blue, satin dress, pretending to think. "maybe a bit."
jeongin shot you a glare.
okay, a full-blown murderous glare.
you, still entirely unbothered, placed a hand on your hip. "i don’t see why you’re mad. i mean, a free vacation? beachside views? quality time with your loving girlfriend?" you batted your lashes. "i’d say that’s a win."
jeongin exhaled through his nose. "a win would be me never having to fake-date you in the first place."
you gasped dramatically. "that hurts, iyennie."
jeongin physically recoiled. "don’t call me that."
"aww, but it’s cute." you tilted your head, smirking. "just like you."
jeongin’s entire body tensed. "i hate you." (what did i tell you?)
"no, you don’t."
"besides, you could've asked any other girl for this whole.. fake dating agenda, you know. but you didn't, so i think that's very contradictory to your complains right now."
"you think i had a choice when jisung practically threatened me there in the first place?"
"please, you could reject it if you really wanted to. that man would forget about it if minho appeared randomly."
jeongin groaned, dragging a hand down his face. "this was supposed to be one night. one dinner. one stupid meal, and then i could go back to my normal, peaceful life."
"peaceful? dude, you have two research papers due, a physics exam next week, and you literally stress-buy sweaters. what part of that is peaceful?"
"shut up," he muttered.
"aww, did i strike a nerve?"
jeongin clenched his jaw. "let’s just go."
"go where?"
jeongin pointed to his car. "i drove you here, remember? which means, unfortunately, i have to drop you home, too."
"aww, you care about my safety, now? such a great boyfriend."
"no, darling, i just don’t want my mom thinking i abandoned you on the side of the road."
you gasped, pressing a hand to your heart. "cold, iyennie. cold."
jeongin ignored her and walked to his car.
jeongin’s car was clean. of course it was.
dark leather seats, faint traces of cologne and fresh laundry lingering in the air, a neatly placed water bottle in the cup holder, and absolutely no mess in sight. it was exactly what you had expected from someone like jeongin—controlled, neat, meticulous.
you, on the other hand, sprawled in the passenger seat like you had all the time in the world, kicking off your heels with a sigh.
"ugh, finally," you said, stretching your legs. "i swear, those things were invented by a man."
jeongin side-eyed them as he started the car. "you chose to wear them."
"yeah, because i actually put effort into my appearance, especially because i was meeting my boyfriend's family, you know. not to mention, i also had to match someone's peak of fashion sense."
you looked him up and down, eyes dragging over his outfit. "speaking of, i gotta admit, you looked kind of good tonight, nerd."
jeongin, dressed in a perfectly fitted black button-up (with the sleeves slightly rolled, because of course), navy slacks, and a silver watch that sat just right on his wrist, kept his eyes on the road. "kind of?"
"mhm. but don’t let it go to your head."
jeongin clicked his tongue. "too late."
you laughed, leaning against the window. "so, when were you going to tell me you had a whole extended family coming to dinner?"
jeongin let out a deep sigh. "i didn’t know."
"mm-hmm."
"i didn’t. if i had known, i would’ve never agreed to this in the first place."
"bet your mom planned it on purpose,"
jeongin’s grip tightened on the steering wheel. "oh, she definitely did."
silence filled the car, the quiet hum of the engine the only sound between them. the city lights flickered past, casting patterns of gold and silver against the windshield. the streets, alive with late-night chatter and the occasional honk, blurred into the background.
you shifted, turning to face him. "so, what’s the plan?"
jeongin frowned. "what plan?"
"you know, the fake-dating plan? we need a strategy."
jeongin blinked. "we don’t need a strategy. we just—" he exhaled. "we just survive the trip, act normal, and then break up after."
you gasped. "break up? so soon?"
jeongin shot you a look. "we are not actually dating, idiot."
"but think of the drama!" you grinned. "we could stage a messy breakup—throw some fake tears in, maybe have a whole 'it’s not you, it’s me' moment—"
"no."
you pouted. "boring."
jeongin rolled his eyes. "you are the most insufferable person i’ve ever met."
"and yet, here you are, fake dating me. out of every girl in town."
jeongin groaned. "i hate my life."
you smirked, playing with the edge of your dress. "no, you don’t."
. . .
when you finally pulled up in front of the women's uni dorm building, jeongin parked and rested his head against the seat, exhausted.
"alright, we’re here. get out."
you gasped. "no goodnight kiss?"
"out."
you laughed, wearing your heels back and stepping out. before closing the door, you leaned down slightly, peering inside. "sweet dreams, iyennie. don’t miss me too much."
jeongin glared. "i will actually block your number."
you winked. "you wish you could."
and with that, you shut the door and disappeared into the building, leaving jeongin staring after you, questioning every life choice that had led to this moment.

best friend!johnny mactavish x f!reader SMUT
you know a regular best friend shouldn’t touch you like johnny does. unfortunately, you let him do it anyways. he always has to have a hand on you: squeezing your waist in passing, pinching your earlobe when you’re not listening to him, a hand on the nape of your neck as he walks next to you. it leads to a lot of confusion with others, but you love it, love knowing where your friendship stands based on how much he touches you. some might call it anxious attachment but to you it’s survival, having lived through toxic friendships with shady people. unfortunately, it also means whoever you go out to dinner, the waiters assume you’re on a date.
johnny told you to get dolled up so here you are in your favorite cocktail dress, his hand on your thigh as you eat at the bar. it’s better than any date you’ve ever been on, mainly because your favorite sports team is playing on the bar TV and you can burp whenever you want.
before you leave, the woman who’s been staring at him all night approaches. she’s pretty and when his hand drops from your thigh, your heart sinks. “excuse me if this is too forward, but are you two on a date?” you shake your head no before johnny can answer, already sullen. she smiles sweetly at you before turning to johnny, hands fidgeting adorably. she introduces herself and sticks out her hand, which johnny takes. “john.” he replies, and you frown, having never heard him use that version of his name. “i just wanted to say i think you’re handsome and was wondering if i could get your number?” johnny’s eyes flick over her head and land on yours, eyebrows raised. you freeze your facial expression, not sure what he wants from you. finding something in your eyes, he turns back to her and shakes his head. “‘m nae datin’ right now, lot happenin’ at work. ah appreciate the offer tho'.” he shoots her a charming smile and even though she’s been rejected, the power of it sends her flittering. “oh, it’s no worry! enjoy your night.” and with that, she takes her leave.
“you could’ve said yes. we’re on leave.” he shrugs, flagging the bartender for another round. “could’ve.” he buys you one round, then two, until you complain about having an early morning tomorrow (it’s a yoga class but you hold firm anyway).
he tells the taxi driver there will be only one stop, his address slurred out. “i have to go home, johnny,” you pout, making no move to tell the driver your own address. when the car stops at his place, johnny crowds your back, his chest pressed to the seam of your spine. you take his keys from his hand, a familiar dance of unlocking the building door and walking up the stairs, fiddling with his three locks until they all click. you toe off your heels and collapse dramatically on his couch. your stomach is heavy from dinner and drinks, eyes closing as you consider giving into an impending food coma. when you blink them open again, it’s too late. johnny’s shadow falls on yours, his weight smothering you into the couch.
“get off, johnny, i'm too full for this.” his head is flush to your stomach, a place he’s touched with hands but never like this. you thread your hands through his mohawk and half-heartedly try to push him away. “off.” he grumbles at your tone, giving in slightly to your ministrations as he slides down. your dress is rucked up to your thighs and you don’t realize it until the gentle fabric of his shirt brushes them.
“johnny…” he turns, eyes dark as his face presses into your lower belly. “ah can make ye feel good, hen.” he slides further, his nose bumping the gusset of your underwear as you remember how you forgoed shorts under your outfit. your hips buck at the sudden pressure against your clit, encouraging him further. “it’s jus’ me, lass. can smell ‘er from here.” you whine at his tone and the force of his gaze. johnny exhales onto the seam of your cunt, sending you shivering as his breath cools the wet spot on your panties. your core pulses, making the decision for you.
“ok.” you whisper. he yanks your underwear to the side, pressing his nose to your aching clit. you buck again but this time he holds you down, strong hands beating the muscle of your legs. his tongue peeks out and licks, the smooth glide of it a feeling you haven’t felt in a long time. “taste s’ fuckin’ good.” he has to be lying but his eyes seem truthful, wide and eager like a puppy dog. your hand is still in his hair and you tug him up until his mouth finds your clit, sucking gently. “you’re a mutt, y’know that?” you slur, drunk on the power in your hands. all johnny does it nod and suck more, his thumb finding your hole and easing you open. he plays you like an instrument, adjusting his ministrations based on the sounds you emit. despite only one finger inside you, you feel full, and wet from johnny's constant touches at dinner.
your orgasm creeps up on you easily, core fluttering as johnny makes a mess of your cunt. you can feel wetness slip down onto the couch, but with how much johnny is enjoying himself, you don’t even feel embarrassed. the spell is broken when you hear keys in the door, unlocking it loudly.
“johnny, johnny, it’s si-", he cuts you off with another finger pressed into you, scissoring them so he can press your cunt closer to his face. you squeeze your eyes shut and when you open, a hulking mass of a man is trekking through the living room. “fuckin’ ‘ell, you two lost me a tenner t' gaz.” you can’t even respond, johnny eating you out with renewed vigor. with every lick and suck, he brings you closer and closer to the edge. simon opens his bedroom door and slams it shut, the sound of rock music drifting through his walls a moment later.
“fuckin’ squeezin’ ma fingers, bonnie. c’mon, ah ken ye want t’ come.” he rarely calls you bonnie and that’s what sends you over the edge. as your core flutters, you remember the other times he’s called you that. in a hospital room, cuts on your brow and your arm in a sling. in a desert with dirt in every crevice, a week without showering. and now, at the altar of your thighs, eating you like his last meal. johnny keeps licking at you until you tug him off forcefully.
despite you being the one to orgasm, he looks wrecked. lips red with effort, his stubble shining with your wetness. he gives you that same charming smile and you close your legs, never minding his fingers still inside you. “taste like heaven, hen.” you squeeze your thighs until he removes his fingers, bringing them to his mouth and sucking them like a lollipop. worry crashes over you like a wave as nerves buzz under your skin.
“is that- are we-“ you scramble off the couch, escaping to his bedroom with johnny on your heels. “‘s wrong?” your underwear is half off your legs and there’s wetness between your thighs and you’re worried that you’ve changed the one friendship you can depend on. that’s what’s wrong. you try to cover your eyes with your hands, but he doesn’t let you, tugging them so they’re pinned to your sides.
“doe, talk t’ me.” you sniffle, completely undignified. “i just- can’t lose you as a friend, johnny. you’re my best friend.” johnny kisses you, your slick wet on his lips. he pulls back before you can blink. “dinnae think anythin’ else, hen. y’r my best friend too. nothin’s changin’.” you frown, gesturing between you two. “what about…” he shrugs. instead of answering, johnny tugs your dress over your head. skilled hands slide your underwear down your thighs. he leaves for his closet and returns a moment later, a worn t-shirt in your hands. you put your hands up and he slides the shirt over your head in a practiced manner. “better?” you nod, still confused. “made us closer friends, righ’?” you nod again. “nothin’s changed, then. we make the rules.”
when you climb into bed, something feels wrong. he sleeps like usual, on his side with a bit of space between you. when you turn around, your back to him, it finally clicks. “you didn’t come.” you murmur. the bed moves as he shrugs. “‘ll get off in the morn.” instead of replying, your hand fumbles behind you until you find his stomach. he doesn’t stop you, allowing your hand to dip down into his boxers. his cock is heavy in your hands, thick and straining with effort. you scoot closer but the angle is awkward, your hand slipping as you try to put it in. johnny takes the reins, a large hand covering yours as he eases his cock into your seeping hole, still wet from earlier. johnny tugs you into him with a hand to your lower stomach, pressing against the slight bulge there. “sleep, hen, an’ i’ll fuck ye in the mornin’.” finally satisfied and full with the weight of him as your hole stretches, you sleep.

I think there's been a glitch
Tumblr media
megumi fushiguro! x f!reader (best friends to lovers?)
Tumblr media
summary: you were supposed to be just friends. yes, you and megumi. you were both supposed to be normal high school classmates, with nothing more than platonic feelings between the two of you. you were his best friend, and you swore you'd never fall for him. so how did you end up pinned against him on his bed? this definitely isn’t the typical situation for best friends, is it?
warnings: afab!reader, swearing/cursing, both the reader and megumi are eighteen, best friends to lovers trope, high school au, teenagers being totally oblivious, fluff, hurt/comfort, slow burn?
word count: 17.9k (HELP)
a/n: based on a small drabble i wrote and ya'll requested if i could make it a fic, your wish is my command so here it is. this is the first part and there will be a second one. guys i'm totally in love with this one. it's rly cute and it's my bbg<3 i love how stupid and oblivious they are haha
Tumblr media
"you asshole! give me my notes back!" you yelled as you ran and somehow caught up to megumi, pulling on his bag.
"your notes?" he scoffed. "they're mine, and you stole them from me," he said, yanking you off of him.
you rolled your eyes. "haha, yeah, they are your notes and maybe i did steal them from you, but still—why'd you take 'em back?" you said, trying to grab the papers from his hands, but he held onto your wrist, preventing you from doing so.
megumi sighed. "because they're mine? tsk..idiot; don't you have anything else to do other than annoy me every morning?"
yes, this was a typical morning for the both of you as you walked to school. you being the pesky little brat you were, and him being the nonchalant grump he was.
you’d practically known each other since elementary school, back when you were just six. you first met him when the teacher asked you to recite a poem, and you got stuck halfway through, while everyone else laughed—except for him. you were a stubborn girl back then, and you thought his lack of laughter meant he was being kind and wanted to be friends. but no, the truth was, he simply didn’t care.
but that didn’t stop you from becoming friends with him. in fact, he was the most mature six-year-old you’d ever met, with a sharp tongue to match. when he reluctantly agreed to be friends, you soon realized he had trouble connecting with other kids. yet, despite that, you two became inseparable, and ever since, you’ve been best friends. now, here you were, in the final semester of high school.
megumi was, without even trying, one of the most popular guys in school. despite being incredibly introverted and aloof, you couldn’t help but wonder how he managed to attract so much attention. his looks and academic performance turned heads, earning him the admiration of nearly every girl. and you? you felt like you might throw up. how could they like him? your stupid best friend? (you very well knew he was much smarter than you, but you couldn't help but despise all that attention he got)
you, on the other hand, were known as "the best friend of the cool guy"—the so-called cool guy. you absolutely hated that label. because you spent so much time with him, guys never showed interest in you, assuming you were dating him. it made you furious, especially now that high school was almost over, and you were already eighteen and you had never dated a guy. never. and you blamed megumi for that. maybe because he was always around you.
things have got to change or else i'll die single, alone and miserable. you thought.
Tumblr media
"...and that’s how christopher columbus discovered america in 1492," your history teacher, professor yaga, announced. history was by far the most boring subject in your opinion. you could easily sleep through the entire class and never miss a thing. and that’s exactly what you were doing—dozing off while some students listened attentively, megumi being one of them, others pretending to pay attention, and a few, like you, already asleep. but of course, professor yaga had to single you out. "y/n! wake up, you sleepyhead!" he called out, tossing a piece of chalk at you.
"no, i didn't steal your candy-" you muttered, still half-asleep as you rubbed your eyes. the other kids couldn't help but laugh at your groggy response. professor yaga raised an eyebrow, his tone sharp. "you do realize this will land you in detention, miss l/n?"
you snapped awake, panic flooding your chest as you scrambled for an explanation. "please, sir, i swear i won't do it again," you pleaded, your voice almost a whisper.
fuck it, you fell asleep again.
he let out a long sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose. "fine. but you'll submit your report tomorrow as your punishment." you nodded quickly, relief washing over you. it wasn't the worst outcome, but it was fair enough.
you felt that the world wasn't fair to girls like you. you weren't very social, and on top of that, you weren't the best academically—good, but not enough to meet your parents' expectations. you had zero experience with dating, and to make matters worse, you were a bit of a mess and a huge crackhead, sure that you probably weirded people out.
you had watched those romantic movies that nobara had forced you to watch. in them, the female lead's problems were always solved with the perfect kiss. you couldn't help but wonder, when am i ever going to experience that? when?
with megumi tagging along all the time with you, you wondered if you'd ever actually get a boyfriend.
your thoughts were interrupted as the bell rang, and you felt a tug behind you. "what do you want, fushiguro?" you asked, glancing as megumi sat down beside your bench.
"you might want to stay awake during history lectures, or you'll fail, idiot," megumi said nonchalantly.
"why do you care?" you replied, crossing your arms. "it's not like you're concerned for me, right?"
he deadpanned at you. "gojo will probably kill me then- 'it's your fault she couldn't concentrate,' he'll say."
"ugh, i knew it," you groaned, leaning on the table with your hands pressed to your forehead. "you don't give a fuck about me."
no. in fact, megumi did care about you a lot. it’s just that you were oblivious, and he was particularly good at hiding it. of course, megumi would care about the one person who knew him so well and liked him for who he truly was, even if you two often bickered over small things. that’s what best friends are supposed to be like, after all.
"no one does care, do they?" you asked, your face propped up on your chin as you scanned the classroom. megumi couldn't have bothered less, but you thought there were still yuji and nobara who would care for you.
megumi sighed. "stop being like this and get your miserable ass up," he said, walking away.
"wait for me, megumi!" you said dramatically, pretending to struggle as you tried to get up from your chair.
you followed him out into the hallway, arms crossed and brows furrowed as you shot him a sideways glance.
"umm..do you think i'll ever get a boyfriend?" you asked, the words slipping out before you could stop them.
megumi barely looked at you as he walked, but you could swear you saw the tiniest smirk tug at his lips. "i don't know," he said, his tone flat. "with that attitude? probably not."
you threw your hands up in exaggerated frustration, swatting at his shoulder. "shut up, asshole!"
just then, a girl from another class caught sight of you both and grinned. "are you two dating? cute," she said, and suddenly, the world felt way too small as you both froze—embarrassed, awkward, and a little bit… cringe.
"no!" you both yelled at the same time, quickly glancing at each other before looking away, the tension hanging in the air.
it wasn't the first time. "are you and megumi a thing? you guys look cool together," people would ask, and every single time, you'd feel that weird mix of frustration and confusion.
megumi. your boyfriend? yeah, right. the idea was so ridiculous that you couldn't even picture it. the thought of it had you laughing to yourself. the thing was, megumi didn’t see you as a... girl. you’d both grown up together, shared countless memories, and spent more time bickering than anything else. to him, you were just you—his childhood friend, someone he’d known forever.
it didn’t matter how many times people asked or joked about you two being a couple. in megumi's eyes, you were always just… one of the guys. no, his guy. that's all. and maybe that was part of the problem.
you didn’t blame him, of course. it wasn’t like you had any experience with relationships either. but the more you thought about it, the more you realized how complicated it would be if things did ever change. that's why you swore not to fall for him. you told yourself over and over that it was just too complicated, that things would never work out between you two. you had a good friendship with megumi. that's all you wanted, nothing more than that. you couldn't risk messing it up.
and it wasn’t just you. megumi, in his own quiet way, had sworn the same thing. he was scared—scared that if things changed, if feelings got involved, he might lose you. and losing you was something he couldn’t even think about.
"i almost gagged," you muttered, shaking your head in disbelief. megumi nodded in agreement, his expression unmoved. "i know, right? how can people say such absurd things?" he scoffed, the words dripping with arrogance. "you're a fool and i'm too good for you."
you shot him a glare, as you lunged towards him, practically trying to choke him.
"dare say that again, you—" you growled, stopping just short of him, eyes narrowed with irritation. megumi barely flinched, instead ruffling your hair, not bothered in the slightest way.
"like that could even do anything to me," he teased, clearly enjoying how easily he could push your buttons.
you groaned, throwing your hands up in frustration. "you're impossible," you muttered.
she looks kinda… cute when she's flustered, he thought, but then immediately froze, realizing what he had just thought. cute? her? what? his mind scrambled to make sense of it. what's wrong with me? he mentally shook his head, trying to push the thought away, but it lingered, making him feel uncomfortably self-aware.
you pouted at him, crossing your arms with a dramatic huff. "you know what, megumi, if you keep acting like this, i'm going to stop hanging out with you," you said, trying to sound serious.
but megumi wasn’t paying attention. his mind was still stuck on that thought from earlier. why the heck did you have to pout like that? he couldn’t shake the image of your cute, frustrated expression. why was he feeling things? he frowned, trying to snap out of it, but his thoughts just kept drifting back to you.
just best friends. just best friends. he repeated in his mind, trying to ground himself. but then, the thought wouldn’t leave him. was it even possible to think your girl best friend looked cute? he wondered, his mind spinning. the more he tried to convince himself it was nothing, the more his heart seemed to disagree. something was definitely wrong with him.
trying to push the thought aside, megumi returned to his usual stoic expression. "what is it you were saying, y/n?" he asked, his voice colder now.
"unbelievable!" you crossed your arms, shaking your head in disbelief. "you know what, megumi? if you're being like this, i’m taking a break from you. i can’t spend every waking second with you. i have a life too, you know." you paused, frowning. "i’m going to agree with nobara, who’s been pushing me to go on a date. but i always said no before, why? because i thought you’d get lonely. but clearly, you don’t care. so don’t bother. don’t try to call me," you said, turning to leave.
you didn't know what came over you or why you said all that. maybe you really feared ending up alone and sad with zero experience in dating like a sore loser, just because you spent so much time with your best friend.
megumi's chest tightened at your words, but he couldn't hold it in any longer. "you’re the one who sticks to me. i don’t mind being left alone. you’re the one who bombards me with messages and calls. you keep saying you have a life? well, i have one too. so i don’t care if you go on a stupid date with some stupid guy," he snapped, his frustration bubbling over.
yes, he fucked up. and yes, he did care if you went on a stupid date with a stupid guy.
you scoffed, your voice sharp with frustration. "alright then, putting all our years of friendship at stake—this is what you wanted, right?" you turned and started walking away, leaving megumi standing there, his expression faltering.
he looked down, feeling a weight in his chest that only seemed to grow heavier by the second. really bad. the guilt settled in, a sinking feeling he couldn't shake off. what had he just done? why did he say those things?
why couldn’t he just say okay and move on like any other friend? why did it feel like his chest was tightening, like there was a lump in his throat every time he thought about you with someone else?
he hated the thought of it—hated how it gnawed at him, how it made his stomach twist. he couldn’t figure out why seeing you with another guy felt like it was something he couldn’t bear.
was it because he didn’t want to lose you? or was it something else?
ofcourse it wasn't. he was only genuinely concerned for you. sure.
this was the first time megumi realised that he was bad at lying to himself.
you didn’t talk to megumi for the next few days. every morning, you made sure to leave for school early, avoiding him entirely. you didn’t want him to have the chance to pick you up and walk with you like he usually did.
megumi, however, figured out your new routine quickly. he tried to follow your schedule, hoping to catch you, even just for a moment, but with each passing day, his efforts became less persistent. gradually, he stopped trying altogether. best friends don’t act like this, he thought, a bitter taste in his mouth. it felt wrong, but he couldn’t bring himself to do anything more.
Tumblr media
it had been a few days since everything had happened. it was a fight, but it lasted longer than you expected. sure, you and megumi had petty little arguments often, but you always made up quickly since neither of you wanted anything serious. but this time, it was different.
you were scribbling in the back of your notebook when the teacher's voice made your head snap up. "so, i'm going to be dividing you all into groups for this project. any volunteers?" the teacher asked as you returned to your scribbling.
"yn, what about you?" she called, pulling your attention back. you shifted in your seat, caught off guard. "uh, yeah, sure," you muttered, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. the thing was, you didn’t mind projects, but you definitely didn’t want to be the group leader.
"any student you'd like to have as a co-leader?" she asked.
you scanned the room, your eyes briefly meeting megumi's. "no, i don't have a preference," you replied, deliberately avoiding his glare.
"alright then, i’ll make megumi your co-leader since you two worked well together last time," she said, and you nodded, sinking back into your seat.
you mentally cursed at yourself. no. this wasn’t supposed to happen.
the teacher assigned the rest of the groups, and you found yourself stuck with megumi and four other students.
you didn’t like this one bit. you had been hoping to avoid talking to him, but now, being in the same group, you wouldn’t have a choice.
"alright, I'm assigning the project file to you," megumi said, glancing at you.
you frowned.
he turned to look back at you. "what?" he asked. "nothing," you replied flatly. megumi had been quiet for a while, having tried to get you to talk to him, but with no success. to your frustration, he had started acting indifferent, as if you two had never been best friends.
you wanted him to worry. you wanted him to beg for your attention. but he didn’t even apologize, and that hurt. the reason for the fight had been petty, but you didn’t know what else to do. just then, nobara came running up, giggling as she threw her arms around your shoulders.
"woah, woah, calm down, bara," you said, holding her steady.
"omg, yn! guess what? i set you up on a date!" she squealed.
"what?" you blinked, narrowing your eyes. "what the fuck, nobara? why’d you do that?"
she looked at you skeptically. "you’re the one who told me the other day that you were going to date, or else you’d end up—"
you quickly covered her mouth, embarrassed. "yeah, yeah, i get it, but i didn’t mean right now."
you swear you saw megumi glaring at the two of you from a distance. "what’s up with you now, fushiguro? jealous that your ex-best friend finally got a date?" nobara teased, clearly annoyed.
megumi scoffed, his voice cold. "i'm looking at you because you’re making a commotion and being too loud," he muttered, walking away.
he didn’t seem to care. did he even listen to what nobara said? part of you wondered if he still cared at all, but another part of you felt like he didn’t—and that made you... sad.
you were walking down the corridor with nobara during break. "megumi didn't even apologize. i don’t know what’s wrong with him," you said, crossing your arms as nobara nodded in agreement.
"i mean, it's true that you'd never get a boyfriend with him always hanging around you," nobara added, making you frown and shove her playfully.
"well, anyways—" you started, but were cut off when someone stopped right in front of the two of you. you looked up and froze.
"hey there, yn," a voice you recognised from somewhere, spoke.
it was asahi.
he was tall, with black hair, a handsome face, and a presence that made him impossible to ignore. as the best basketball player at your school, he was surrounded by tons of girls, all of whom seemed to fawn over him. you had a teeny, tiny crush on him, but you never imagined he'd talk to you like this.
"hello asahi?" nobara said, snapping you out of your thoughts.
"i fix you up on a date with her and you don’t even say hello to me? where are your manners?" nobara scoffed, and asahi chuckled lightly.
what? wait, a date?
suddenly, everything clicked. he was the one you were going on a date with?
"oh yeah, i forgot to tell yn that you're the one she’s going on a date with," nobara added casually.
you felt your face heat up. embarrassed, you scratched the back of your neck. "h-h-hi, asahi," you stammered.
he smiled warmly at you. "you have a pretty smile, yn," he said, gently tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear.
boom. you heard it.
and in that moment, you could swear you heard your heart skip a beat.
"why did you even agree to go on a date with me when nobara asked?" you asked asahi, a hint of confusion in your voice as he smiled.
"well, you got it wrong, yn," he replied, still smiling. "i was the one who asked her if you were single. i was the one who approached first."
you blushed furiously, caught off guard by his words.
for a moment, it felt as though the whole world had paused. your hair gently flowed in the breeze, and asahi was looking straight into your eyes, just like in the movies. suddenly, those cheesy scenes made sense.
"well, I’ll get going, yn. i’ve got your number from nobara, so i’ll text you later. and remember, it’s a date," asahi winked before walking off to join his friends.
you wanted to giggle, laugh, cry—anything, really. you had gotten your first date, and not just with anyone, but with asahi. you were bursting to tell megumi.
"wait, let me go tell megu—" you started, but then you stopped yourself.
oh right, i can't. i forgot.
nobara sighed. "girl, just leave him for now. you’ve got a date, don’t you? now all you need to do is wait for his text," she said with a knowing smile.
you nodded, but you felt empty somehow. "yeah, i guess so."
that evening, you found yourself lying on your bed, working on your homework while listening to your favorite song. you felt anxious, wondering if asahi would actually text you or if you’d end up waiting forever, only to be played by him. but he seemed too genuine for that—that's what you thought, at least, in that moment, through the lens of your teenage mind.
suddenly, your phone buzzed, and you jumped up to check the message. it was from megumi.
megumi: hi, i was wondering if our group could meet tomorrow at the café at 5 p.m. to discuss the project. be there.
you hesitated for a moment before replying, but eventually, you typed:
you: ok, fine.
you wanted to tell megumi about your date with asahi, but a part of you wanted him to feel the sting of not knowing. i won’t tell him, you thought. he’ll find out eventually.
just as you flopped onto your bed and closed your eyes, your phone buzzed again. you peeked at the screen—it was an unknown number.
asahi: hey yn! you free tomorrow at 5? if you are, i’ll pick you up! we’ll go to the movies.
you shot up, eyes wide in shock. oh my god, it’s asahi. you squealed, kicking your pillows in excitement, then grabbed your phone to reply.
you: hii asahi! sure, i’m free… you don’t need to worry about picking me up though.
the reply came quickly.
asahi: nah, don’t worry. i’ll come by ;)
the next morning, you found yourself laughing and chatting with nobara, showing her the messages on your phone.
"oh my god," nobara said dramatically, leaning closer to the screen. "he said he'd pick you up? what a true gentleman!"
you giggled, feeling a bit giddy. "i know, right?"
the thing was, you were young, naive, and inexperienced. boys like asahi had been dating and having casual flings since middle school, starting as early as eighth grade. deep down, you probably shouldn't have trusted him so blindly.
"wait, wait, yn! oh my god, close your eyes!" nobara exclaimed suddenly, pulling her phone out.
"why?" you asked, laughing as you obeyed.
"don't peek at my phone," she warned, scrolling frantically through her gallery. "okay, open up!"
you opened your eyes, and there it was—a picture of asahi. but not just any picture. this one showed him shirtless, his abs on full display.
his abs were well-defined, and his face matched—handsome and captivating.
"oh my goodness, i can't unsee this!" you gushed, your cheeks heating up.
"i got it off his instagram feed," nobara said smugly. "how good of a friend am i, right?"
you laughed and nodded, still staring at the image as if it might burn a hole in her phone screen. but then, out of nowhere, your mind betrayed you. instead of asahi, you suddenly pictured megumi in that photo—toned abs, a lean yet well-proportioned figure... wait, what? jesus fucking hell.
you blinked in shock, realizing where your thoughts had wandered. your little brain was conjuring up scenarios you’d never imagined before. why him? you wondered.
though asahi’s physique was undoubtedly athletic, in your mind, megumi’s leaner frame somehow looked better, more effortlessly attractive. you cursed at yourself, shaking your head in frustration.
what’s wrong with me?
you chuckled awkwardly, feeling a bit embarrassed, as nobara sighed dramatically.
"i’ll get going now. i promised maki i’d meet her at the cafeteria. bye, yn! oh, and why don’t you go see asahi? he’s at basketball practice right now," nobara added with a smirk.
you smiled and nodded. yeah, maybe seeing asahi would help get your mind off megumi.
jogging down to the court, you spotted asahi practicing with his team. he looked incredible—playing effortlessly, weaving through his opponents, and landing perfect baskets. his confidence on the court was magnetic, and you couldn’t help but admire him.
as you moved closer, he wiped the sweat from his forehead, his eyes meeting yours. he smiled instantly, making your heart skip a beat.
"guys, i’ll be back in a moment. keep practicing—good game!" asahi called out to his team before walking toward you.
your heart started to race as he approached, chugging a bottle of water. hot. that was all you could think.
"hey, yn. what’s up?" he asked casually, his voice smooth.
you tried to compose yourself, replying in a cute but natural tone, "umm, i’m here to see you."
he raised an eyebrow, a playful smile spreading across his face. "aw, you came to see me? well, how’d i do out there?" he asked, wiping his forehead again.
"you’re really cool, i must admit," you said, smiling as you gave his shoulder a light pat.
he let out a playful scoff. "pretty cool? i’m the captain of the team, miss. you’re really hard to impress, aren’t you?"
you could feel your heart flutter again—or maybe it was the thrill of this new kind of attention. whatever it was, it was exciting, unfamiliar, and intoxicating.
what you didn’t realize, though, was just how much others admired you. you always thought guys weren’t that into you, but the reality was far from it. you were different, and maybe that’s why someone like megumi cherished you so much.
"oi, asahi, come back in two!" one of his teammates called out.
asahi nodded and turned to you with a smile. "well, i gotta run," he said, glancing back at the court. then, almost as an afterthought, he added, "don’t forget—5 o’clock. i’ll come pick you up."
before you could reply, he reached for your hand and kissed it gently.
you froze.
it wasn’t that you didn’t know how to handle yourself in normal situations—it’s just that this was not normal. your brain short-circuited as you stood there, watching him jog back to the court. you were so stunned that you didn’t notice the soccer ball flying toward you from the opposite end of the field.
it was only when the ball was dangerously close that you realized what was happening. you dramatically thought, this is it. my time has come. the end is near.
but the impact never came.
something—or rather, someone—stopped the ball.
megumi.
he was standing right next to you, the ball in one hand, his body positioned between you and the potential danger. his expression was as unreadable as ever—calm, stoic, but commanding in a way that made you feel oddly safe.
"umm..." you began, but before you could say more, megumi turned his attention to the kid who’d come running over, clearly flustered.
"watch where you kick the ball," megumi said flatly, his voice firm but not overly harsh.
the kid stammered an apology, but megumi didn’t dwell on it. Instead, he tossed the ball into the air and kicked it back across the field with precise force. the movement was smooth, powerful, and, dare you think it, hot.
you mentally slapped yourself. seriously? what’s wrong with me today?
maybe it was the hormones, or maybe it was the fact that everything megumi did lately seemed to stand out to you in a way it never had before. you caught yourself wondering how strong he really was—something you never paid attention to before.
then, you remembered the start of the school term when megumi had effortlessly lifted you off the ground during some chaotic moment. at the time, you hadn’t thought much of it. but now? if that happened again, you’d probably lose your mind.
"umm, thanks," you mumbled, avoiding his gaze—not because you didn’t want to look at him, but because your cheeks were burning red.
megumi didn’t look at you either. "you’re welcome, i guess," he said. then, after a brief pause, he added, "try not to be a fool next time. keep your eyes opened idiot."
he cares. you couldn’t help but mentally dance at the thought, even though you knew he wouldn’t show any further emotion.
"well, what are you doing here?" you asked hesitantly.
he chuckled, and it sounded… odd. exhausted, perhaps, but there was something different about it. "i thought we’d stopped bugging each other," he replied.
"it’s not like that," you quickly cut him off. "megumi, I didn’t mean it that way."
"then what?" he shot back. "all the times i tried to apologize, and you didn’t even care."
"apologize? excuse me? that was your version of apologizing?" you snapped. "i told you we needed a break from being friends, and you didn’t even try to approach me. you just gave up and started acting indifferent."
"you’re the one going on a date with some random guy now," he muttered, almost to himself. his expression twisted slightly, and you realized he hadn’t meant to say that out loud.
"why would you bring that up now?" you asked, scoffing. "if you’re so into not poking your nose into other people’s business, maybe you should start with yourself."
megumi rolled his eyes. "i don’t want to argue anymore," he said with a sigh.
"you’re the one who started it," you retorted.
both of you fell silent as the basketball team finished their practice and began heading off the court. neither of you said anything, instead looking away and sighing in unison.
just then, asahi approached you, flashing his signature grin. "remember, yn. 5 pm," he said with a wink.
you blushed furiously, giggling at his playful tone.
megumi, however, stared daggers at asahi’s retreating back as though he could burn a hole right through him. "what was that all about?" he asked coldly.
"i thought you wouldn’t—" you began, but megumi cut you off.
"no. just tell me." his voice was steady, but you could sense a strange concern behind it.
you gave in. "well… he’s the one i’m going on a date with," you admitted hesitantly.
for a split second, you thought you saw megumi’s face drop. but the moment passed quickly, and his usual ice-cold demeanor returned. maybe he wasn’t affected. but deep down, a part of you wanted him to feel jealous.
"well, good for you," he said, his tone indifferent.
but then he paused, as if something had just occurred to him. "wait. what about our meeting at 5 pm today?"
oh. you’d completely forgotten. between thinking about asahi all day and getting lost in your thoughts, you hadn’t remembered the plans you’d already made with megumi before agreeing to meet asahi.
"i… i won’t be able to make it," you admitted reluctantly. "i only said yes to you for formality’s sake. i already agreed to meet asahi first, and i can’t cancel on him—"
you lied.
megumi sighed sharply, cutting you off. "of course you can’t. enjoy."
before you could say anything else, he turned and walked away. his expression was unreadable, and there wasn’t even a hint of disappointment on his face.
but you wanted there to be. you wanted him to feel something—jealousy, sadness, anything.
and then it hit you. why did you want him to feel that way? unless… no. that wasn’t possible. was it?
you shook your head, trying to brush off the thought. megumi was your best friend—or, at least, he used to be. that was in the past now. or so you told yourself.
evening came, and you couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt settling in your chest. why am i doing this? am i hurting megumi? you wondered. but then again, he hadn’t shown any sign of being upset. he didn’t seem sad at all—maybe you were just overthinking.
you got dressed for your first date, opting for a cropped top that was just shy of being see-through. paired with baggy cargo jeans and some matching accessories, you looked cute—really cute, you had to admit. the only problem was the makeup. inexperienced and clueless, you turned to youtube tutorials for help.
"stupid mascara… ugh," you groaned as you struggled to get it just right. after thirty long minutes of trial and error, you finally managed to finish. the makeup was minimal but far more than what you usually wore. at least you didn’t look like a demon—you silently thanked the heavens for that.
when the clock struck the hour, you found yourself waiting at the nearby bus stop, where asahi had agreed to pick you up. He had a car. he had a license. he’s so cool, you thought to yourself.
just then, a sleek maserati pulled up right in front of you. he’s rich too? you thought in disbelief.
"yn, hi," he greeted you, his tone cheerful and confident. he exuded a cool and effortless charm, dressed in an oversized hoodie and casual pants. somehow, he managed to strike the perfect balance between not overdressing and not underdressing.
he stepped out of the car, opened the door for you, and extended his hand. blushing, you took it and got in.
the ride to the theater was fun—filled with lighthearted conversation about the movie and playful banter. before you knew it, you had arrived just in time, popcorn and soda in hand, ready for the film.
meanwhile, megumi was sitting in a café with the other students, working on the group project. he looked composed, as he usually did—calm and collected, the image of focus.
or so it seemed.
inside, his thoughts were anything but composed. the idea of you spending time with another guy, especially someone like asahi, made his blood boil. it’s nothing, he tried to convince himself. just brotherly feelings, that’s all.
this was the second time megumi realized how terrible he was at lying to himself.
the mental image of your soft, plump lips on asahi’s made his jaw tighten. his grip on his pen stiffened. what if he’s just using her? he wondered. what if she’s in danger? the thoughts raced through his mind relentlessly.
maybe i'm overthinking… but then, his mind conjured up something that made his pulse quicken: he imagined himself in asahi’s place, leaning in and kissing you instead.
damn it, he cursed under his breath. stupid teenage hormones. fuck them.
he shook his head, trying to banish the thought. no, this couldn’t happen. it didn’t matter if his feelings were “brotherly” or something else entirely. all he knew was that he had an overwhelming urge to storm into the theater, pull asahi away from you, and take you somewhere far away from him.
to megumi, you were still innocent—too kind, too naive to see through someone like asahi. he told himself it was concern for your well-being, nothing more. but deep down, even he wasn’t sure anymore.
his hand hovered over his phone, tempted to message you and cancel the meeting right now and run straight to you. no, he thought, clenching his fist. but the thought of you with asahi lingered, gnawing at him, making it impossible to focus on anything else.
asahi and you were completely engrossed in the movie. as you reached for the popcorn, you felt a pair of fingers brush against yours. ah, yes—you were sharing the same basket of popcorn. it felt so fitting, like a classic movie moment come to life.
both of you turned your heads at the same time, your eyes meeting. maybe you had done it on purpose, hoping for this exact moment. asahi's gaze lingered on yours, and you felt a blush rise to your cheeks.
"so, how’s it?" he asked, his voice warm and casual. the glow of the screen flickered in your eyes as you sat there, caught mid-bite with a mouthful of popcorn.
"umm, the popcorn? it’s buttery, but it could use some salt," you replied, earning a soft chuckle from him. ah, that laugh—it sent a flutter through your chest.
"no, silly. i meant the movie," he said, grinning as he casually draped an arm over your shoulders.
you laughed awkwardly, feeling the heat of embarrassment creep over you. "haha, yeah, i knew that," you said, trying to play it off. "it’s good."
"hmm," he whispered softly, leaning in closer. you could feel it—the heat between you. then, with one hand, he gently tilted your face toward him. oh no, he was going to kiss you. you had never done this before—at least, not with an actual person. your plushies and pillows had been your only practice partners, and even they wouldn’t prepare you for this.
as you leaned in as well, closing your eyes, the lights in the theater suddenly turned on, and people began getting up to leave. the movie was over. how embarrassing. asahi chuckled at your flustered state, his warm laugh making your cheeks burn even more.
"maybe next time," he muttered to himself, his voice almost teasing. you stood there awkwardly, unsure of what to do, when he suddenly got a notification on his phone.
"well, i gotta run to the washroom. i'll be quick, okay? wait for me outside," he said with a smile, squeezing your hand before heading off. you nodded and walked out of the theater.
the cold air outside hit you instantly, making you regret wearing just a crop top. the clouds had taken over the sky, dark and heavy, and it looked like it could rain any moment now. you stood there, replaying the events of the day in your head. it had been your first date—and asahi was perfect. just like someone straight out of a movie. but it had all felt almost too perfect, like it wasn’t quite real. the only thing missing had been the kiss, which was sadly interrupted. you couldn’t help but blush at the memory.
when you glanced at your phone, you realized it had already been ten minutes since asahi went to the bathroom. you weren’t trying to be impatient, but you wondered what was taking him so long. a knot of worry formed in your stomach. deciding to check, you headed toward the bathrooms.
what you saw froze you in place. there, just outside the bathroom, was asahi—kissing another girl.
you blinked, hoping you were imagining it, but no. it was real. his lips were on hers, his hands resting on her waist. there was no mistaking it. it wasn’t the movie-like moment you had hoped for—it was a nightmare.
your chest tightened as tears began to prick your eyes. you wanted to scream at him, to demand an explanation, to ask if you weren’t good enough. but no. he didn’t deserve that from you. you had something he clearly lacked—self-respect and pride. so, instead of confronting him, you turned and walked away.
but the tears wouldn’t stop. they rolled down your cheeks, hot and uncontrollable, as you replayed what you had just seen. your heart ached with betrayal. were all boys like this? trash?
no. not all boys. you thought of megumi. he’d never do something like this. he’d never hurt you like this. suddenly, you felt the overwhelming urge to go to him. to tell him you were wrong. to tell him you wanted him—not just as a friend, but as something more.
but how could you? after everything you’d said to him, after how you’d pushed him away? he probably wouldn’t even look at you now. that thought made the pain in your chest feel even heavier.
ha, how ironic, you thought. your first date and heartbreak on the same day. why did all this happen to you? you had been too naive to trust asahi. he was a playboy, and he played you. the one thing you had looked forward to was now the thing you dreaded. you didn’t want to date anymore; you didn’t even want to see anyone again. it had started raining, and you were running. where? you didn’t know. just running, hoping to disappear, to escape from everything and everyone.
megumi was done with the project work and had closed everything off. luckily, you had left your location services on. feeling an urge to check where you were, he opened the app, and to his surprise, you weren’t at home or the theater. you were somewhere in the middle of town.
"what the heck?" he mumbled, grabbing his jacket and bag before running out the door. he knew where you’d go. whenever you got sad, you always ran to the park downtown. his intuition told him something was wrong. not that he wanted to jinx it, but maybe he’d already called it.
he ran through the rain without an umbrella, his clothes getting soaked, until he finally caught sight of you. you were kneeling down on the wet ground, crying. he rushed over to you.
"hey, y/n, what happened?" he asked, concern clear in his voice.
the moment you heard his voice, you recognized it. your red and puffy eyes blurred your vision, but you didn’t care. you stood up and threw yourself into megumi’s arms, your face pressed against his chest. he held you closer, his warmth shielding you from the cold rain.
"what happened? tell me," he said gently, his voice calm though worry was evident.
tears were rolling down your cheeks, hot and uncontrollable.
"hic—uh… asahi… h-he hic… k-kissed… another g-g... girl..." your words barely made sense, but megumi understood.
"it's alright, idiot. stop crying," he said softly, his hand gently brushing away your tears. but inside, his anger was rising. he wanted to do something, anything, to wipe that smug look off asahi’s face. he wasn’t as calm as he usually was anymore. his protective instincts kicked in, and all he wanted was to make asahi regret hurting you.
you took a few seconds to calm down, still whimpering and hiccuping as megumi rubbed your back soothingly. he was there—always. no matter what, he stayed by your side, and deep down, you knew he always would.
suddenly, a pang of guilt hit you. you had hurt him.
"umm, m-megumi, well, i-i wanted to say sorry," you said, looking up into his eyes. they glimmered in the faint moonlight, his figure shielding you from the rain. his eyes softened as he met your gaze.
"sorry? why?" he asked, though you knew he understood.
"w-well, i was wrong," you began, your voice trembling. "i was selfish and inconsiderate, for both of us. i was just desperate to get myself a boyfriend… and look at how i ended up." tears threatened to spill again, but megumi hushed you, gently placing a finger on your lips.
"you little idiot," he said, his tone affectionate despite the words. "don’t you understand? sure, if you hung out with me, you probably wouldn’t get one. but… i think it’s my fault too. i didn’t give you enough space to breathe either. though…" he hesitated, a faint curse escaping under his breath. "no matter what, i’d hate to see you date someone else."
his words hung in the air. his eyes widened slightly, realizing what he’d just said out loud.
"what?" you asked, stunned, your eyes wide with surprise.
"never mind," he mumbled quickly, shaking his head. "i meant i’d be sad if you left me alone, that’s all. are you seriously so dumb that your mind clings to stuff like that?"
you laughed softly, the sound light and genuine despite everything, and pulled him into another hug. with megumi, you felt safe. you felt… okay. asahi didn’t matter anymore, and you realized it now.
you let yourself sink into the moment, listening to the gentle pitter-patter of the rain. the two of you were drenched, but neither of you seemed to care. the sound of water sliding down rooftops, trickling from the playground slide, and pooling in puddles filled the air.
then you noticed something else: your heartbeat. it was fast. thump-thump. had it always been this fast? no, it felt different. abnormal, even. but it couldn’t have anything to do with megumi, of course not. it had to be everything you’d been through tonight… obviously.
but then you caught the scent of his cologne. it was fresh, like dewy mist, and you couldn’t help but lean in a little closer, inhaling it deeply. wait. what was that?
you felt something in your stomach. a flutter. you blinked. parasites? you thought to yourself, trying to rationalize it. it’s definitely not butterflies. no, it couldn’t be. of course not.
you just hoped you were right—because the last thing you wanted now was to fall for your best friend.
megumi broke the hug and stepped back. "i think if you’re done, maybe we should go. and seriously, what the heck, we’re completely drenched," he said, glancing down at his soaked clothes. "my clothes are totally ruined now."
without waiting for a response, he grabbed your hand and started running. you followed, your feet splashing through puddles.
"where are we going?" you asked as he suddenly stopped, looking around.
"let’s just find some shelter and call a taxi," he replied. but then his eyes landed somewhere they really shouldn’t have, and he cursed the heavens.
you were wearing a thin, nearly see-through crop top that had clung to your skin in the rain. megumi swallowed hard and looked away immediately, his jaw tightening as he tried to stay composed. okay, this is normal. i’m a teenage boy too, he thought, though the pink flush creeping up his face betrayed him.
he was thankful, at least, that you were completely oblivious. thank god, he thought.
"cover up, you idiot," megumi said, his tone sharper than intended, but his voice still flustered.
"huh?" you asked, tilting your head in confusion, still unaware of the situation. megumi sighed, grumbling under his breath. why can’t she just read the room? he thought.
he swung his bag off his shoulder and tossed it to you. "here, use this. just—cover up."
you did as he said, though you still seemed confused. megumi let out another sigh, shrugged off his jacket, and draped it over both of you, shielding you from the rain.
you smiled up at him then—a bright, genuine smile. it was the kind of smile that could probably make any guy melt. but megumi wasn’t any guy. at least, that’s what he told himself.
until now.
seeing that smile made his cheeks flush even deeper, and he had to look away, cursing under his breath. damn. just hormones. nothing else, he told himself, trying to stay rational.
but then another thought slipped in, unbidden. why does she have to look so adorable... and hot? at the same time? he frowned, questioning his sanity.
fuck fuck fuck.
best friends. just best friends, he repeated to himself like a mantra, desperate to believe it.
but the truth was harder to ignore now. this was the third time something about you had struck a chord deep inside him.
megumi wished he was better at lying to himself.
after a while of waiting, you got into a taxi with megumi. "so, we’ll just head home now?" he asked, glancing at you. you nodded but hesitated for a moment before speaking.
"yeah, about that… my parents are out of town, and i-i was gonna be alone, so i wondered if i could bunk with you tonight? for old times’ sake?" you asked, your voice unsure but hopeful.
for old times’ sake? sure. but for his own sanity’s sake? absolutely not, megumi thought.
"yeah, works," he said, trying to sound casual. but deep down, he knew this was going to test every ounce of self-control he had.
the ride to his house was short, and as you sat in silence, you started reflecting on how the night had turned out. it had been such a mess, yet here you were, feeling strangely okay.
you glanced at your phone, which was still on do not disturb, and weren’t surprised to see 13 missed calls from asahi. you shrugged and sighed, shaking your head. none of that mattered now.
no one was home at megumi’s place either. the realization that you were both alone together made your stomach twist and turn, though you didn’t quite understand why. his sister, tsumiki, had a school function and was out of town as well.
"well, come in," megumi said, hanging the keys on the rack. the sound of the keys jingling filled the otherwise quiet house as you took off your shoes and stepped inside.
the place felt so familiar, as it always had. you’d been coming here for the past twelve years of your life. it was like a second home.
the two of you headed upstairs to his bedroom. as expected, it was neat and tidy, just like megumi always kept it.
"i think you should take a bath and change into something..." he said, rummaging through his closet. after a moment, he pulled out a hoodie and a pair of shorts. "...there you go," he added, tossing them to you.
you caught the clothes and stared at them for a moment. and then it hit you. this is exactly like one of those cliché book plots, you thought. the one where the girl has no spare clothes, so the guy lends her his.
while you were lost in your thoughts, megumi was having his own internal struggle. how cute would she look in my clothes? the thought slipped into his mind before he could stop it, and his cheeks turned pink.
both of you glanced at each other briefly, the blush on your faces obvious, before quickly looking away. completely oblivious to what the other was thinking, you stood there, awkward and flustered, two idiots caught in your own spiraling thoughts.
not even god could save the two of you from this moment. as much as you both hated the idea of picturing each other together, neither of you could completely deny the thought anymore.
you had taken a bath and were now sitting on the edge of the bed, towel-drying your hair while waiting for megumi. that was when he walked out of the bathroom.
uh oh.
he wasn’t wearing a shirt—just a pair of shorts, with a towel slung lazily over his shoulders. you froze for a moment, and before you could stop yourself, you realized you were checking him out. great, just great, you thought, internally screaming.
he rubbed the towel through his hair, his raven-black locks spiking in every direction, just the way they always did. only now, for some reason, you couldn’t help but notice how much you wanted to run your hands through it.
your gaze drifted lower—bad idea.
his abs were exactly how you had imagined they’d be. toned, well-defined, and everything else you shouldn’t have been thinking about right now. his frame wasn’t bulky or overly muscular, but lean and athletic, which somehow made him look even hotter.
you felt a wave of embarrassment wash over you as you realized what you were doing. god, i’m disgusting. i’m a total freak, you thought, your cheeks burning.
still, no matter how hard you tried to look away, you couldn’t deny it. megumi looked… hot. and that was a problem you weren’t ready to face.
fuck it, am i in love with my bestfriend? you thought. ofcourse not, it's just some sort of a physical attraction that anyone my age would experience.
megumi glanced at you as you sat on the edge of the bed, still busy drying your hair. your damp strands clung to your face, droplets of water sliding down your skin. you weren’t even trying, but somehow you were driving him insane.
his mind short-circuited at that moment, and before he could think, he acted. something inside him snapped, or maybe it was always there, buried beneath layers of self-control. whatever it was, it was enough to make him forget himself.
he stood and walked over to you. you looked up at him, confused. "what?" you asked, your voice curious. "is there something—"
you didn’t get to finish. his hands were on you, pulling you close, and suddenly, his lips were on yours. your eyes widened in shock. megumi just kissed you.
but the real surprise wasn’t that—it was the fact that you didn’t pull away. instead, you kissed him back, meeting his lips with the same passion he gave you. this was your first kiss, and yet, it didn’t feel awkward or clumsy. no, it was perfect. megumi moved with a deliberate slowness, his lips guiding yours like he had done this a thousand times before.
you felt the bed beneath you as he gently pushed you down. his hand slid into yours, pinning it above your head, while the other rested firmly on your waist. everything about the moment felt intense, like the world outside had stopped spinning. you finally understood what those movie scenes meant when the girl’s problems melted away with the perfect kiss. because that’s exactly what was happening. everything—your heartbreak, your doubts—everything faded into nothing.
but then, reality hit you. no. i’m kissing my best friend.
you both pulled away at the same time, your breaths labored, your faces flushed. the realization of the position you were in hit megumi immediately—you, beneath him, your hair splayed out across the bed. and god, you looked good like that. stop, he told himself, forcing the thought away as he climbed off you, running a hand through his hair and fixing his shorts.
shit shit fucking hell you doof.
she’s going to think i’m a pervert, megumi thought, mortified. i messed up. i messed up big time.
on the other hand, your thoughts were spiraling in a completely different direction. oh no. i forced him into this. he didn’t even want this. you cursed at yourself, guilt weighing heavy on your chest.
the two of you sat on opposite sides of the bed, the silence stretching on for what felt like hours. ten minutes passed, the room filled with nothing but the sound of your breaths as both of you tried to make sense of what had just happened.
"i—" you both started at the same time before cutting yourselves off.
"no, you go first," you said in unison again, your eyes briefly meeting before you both looked away, cheeks burning.
megumi cleared his throat and started. "i… i didn’t mean to. i was just… you know…" his voice trailed off, unsure of how to explain himself.
you nodded quickly, even though you didn’t understand a thing. "y-yeah. me too. it was totally accidental, and i get it. i understand."
but neither of you did. not really.
the silence returned, this time even heavier than before.
"so, uh, yn… you take the bed, and i’ll go sleep on the couch downstairs," megumi said finally, his voice stiff, his eyes avoiding yours entirely.
"yeah, yeah, sure," you said, nodding like an idiot.
he grabbed a pillow and a blanket from his bed and headed for the door, his movements quick and deliberate. he didn’t even glance back at you as he closed the door behind him.
as soon as he was gone, you cursed at yourself, sinking back onto the bed. what the hell did i just do? this is going to be so awkward from now on. megumi probably hates me now.
you stood up and walked to the door, resting your back against it before sliding down to the floor. you hugged your knees to your chest, resting your head on them as your mind raced. he completely has no feelings for me. and i… i don’t have any for him either. right?
on the other side of the door, megumi was sitting in the exact same position as you, his back against the wood, his head buried in his hands.
what have i just done? am i out of my mind? he thought, guilt and frustration swirling inside him.
maybe you were both wrong. or maybe you weren’t.

Language Apps Suck, Now What?: A Guide to Actually Becoming "Fluent"
The much requested sequel to my DL post that was promised almost a year ago.
I'm going to address all of the techniques that have helped me in my language learning journeys. Since 95% of these came from the fact that in a past language learning mistake, they are titled as my mistakes (and how I would/did things differently going forward). For those that read to the bottom there is a "best universal resources" list.
Disclaimers:
"Fluency" is hard to define and everyone has their own goals. So for the purpose of this post, "fluency" will be defined as "your personal mastery target of the language".
If you just want to pick up a bit of a language to not sound like a total foreigner on vacation or just exchange a few words in a friend's native language, feel free to ignore what doesn't apply, but maybe something here could help make it a little easier.
This is based on my own personal experience and (some) research.
Mistake 1: Asymmetrical Studying
Assuming you don't just want to do a single activity in a language, or are learning a language like ASL, a language requires 4 parts to be studied: Speaking, Listening, Writing, Reading. While these have overlap, you can't learn speaking from reading, or even learn speaking from just listening. One of my first Chinese teachers told me how he would listen to the textbook dialogues while he was biking to classes and it helped him. I took this information, thought "Yeah that's an idea, but sounds boring" and now regret not taking his advice nearly every day.
I think a lot of us find methods we enjoy to study (mine was reading) and assume that if we just do that method more ™ it will eventually help us in other areas (sometimes it does, but that's only sometimes). Find a method that works for you for each area of study, even better find more than one method since we use these skills in a variety of manners! I can understand a TV program pretty well since I have a lot of context clues and body language to fill in any gaps of understanding, but taking a phone call is much harder—the audio is rougher, there's no body language to read, and since most Chinese programs have hard coded subtitles, no subtitles to fall back on either. If I were to compare the number of hours I spent reading in Chinese to (actively) training my listening? Probably a ratio of 100 to 1. When I started to learn Korean, the first thing I did was find a variety of listening resources for my level.
Fix: Find a variety of study methods that challenge all aspects of the language in different ways.
A variety of methods will help you develop a more well-rounded level of mastery, and probably help you keep from getting bored. Which is important because...
Mistake 2: Inconsistent Studying
If there is one positive to a language app, it is the pressure it puts on keeping a streak. Making studying a part of your everyday routine is the best thing you can do. I benefited a lot from taking a college language course since I had a dedicated time to study and practice Chinese 5 days out of the week (and homework usually filled the other two). Memorization is a huge part of language learning, and stopping and starting is terrible for memorization. When I was in elementary school, we had Spanish maybe a couple times a month. Looking back, it seems like it was the first class to be cut if we needed to catch up on a more important course. Needless to say, I can't even speak Spanish at an elementary level.
However, I'm sure many people reading this don't have the time to do ultra-immersion 4-hour study sessions every day either. Find what days during the week you have time to focus on learning new vocab and grammar, and use the rest of the week to review. This can be done on your commute to school/work, while you do the dishes, or as a part of your morning/evening routine. Making this as realistic as possible will help you actually succeed in making this a habit. (Check this out for how to set realistic study goals)
Fix: Study regularly (ideally daily) by setting realistic goals. Avoid "binge" studying since remembering requires consistent repetition to be most effective.
Mistake 3: Resource Choice
This is really composed of two mistakes, but I have a good example that will cover them both.
First, finding resources that are at or slightly above your level is the most important thing. Easy resources will not challenge you enough and difficult resources will overwhelm you. The ideal is n+1, with n as what you know plus 1 new thing.
Second, getting distracted by fancy, new technology. Newer isn't always better, and there are often advantages that are lost when we've made technological developments. I often found myself wanting to try out new browser extensions or organizational methods and honestly I would've benefitted from just using that time to study. (Also, you're probably reading this because of my DL post so I don't think it has to be said that AI resources suck.)
A good example of this was my time using Clozemaster. I had actually recommended it when I first started using it since I thought the foundation was really solid. However, after long term use, I found that it just wasn't a good fit. The sentences were often too simple or too long and strange for memorization at higher levels or were too difficult at lower levels. I think that taking my textbook's example sentences from dialogues into something like Anki would've been a far better use of my time (and money) as they were already designed to be at that n+1 level.
Fix: "Vet" your resources—make sure they will actually help you. If something is working for you, then keep using it! You don't always have to upgrade to the newest tool/method.
Mistake 3.5: Classrooms and Textbooks
A .5 since it's not my mistake, but an addendum of caution. I think there is a significant part of the language learning community that views textbooks and classroom learning as the worst possible resource. They are "boring", "outdated", and "ineffective" (ironically one of the most interesting modern language learning methods, ALG, is only done in a classroom setting). Classrooms and textbooks bring back memories of being surrounded by mostly uninterested classmates, minimal priority, and a focus on grades rather than personal achievement (imagine the difference between a class of middle schoolers who were forced to choose a foreign language vs. adult learners who self-selected!) People have used these exact methods, or even "cruder" methods, to successfully learn a language. It all comes down to what works best for you. I specifically recommend textbooks for learning grammar and the plentiful number of dialogues and written passages that can function great as graded readers and listening resources. (Also the distinction made between "a youtube lesson on a grammatical principle" which is totally cool, and "a passage in a grammar textbook" is more one of tone and audio/written than efficacy).
Classrooms can be really great for speaking practice since they can be a lot less intimidating speaking to someone who is also learning while receiving corrections. Speech can be awkward to train on your own (not impossible if you're good at just talking aloud to yourself!), and classrooms can work nicely for this. Homework and class schedules also have built in accountability!
Fix: Explore resources available to you and try to think holistically about your approach. CI+Traditional Methods is my go to "Learning Cocktail"
Mistake 4: Yes, Immersion, But...
I realized this relatively quickly while learning Chinese, but immersion at a level much higher than your current level will do very little for you. What is sometimes left out of those "Just watch anime to learn Japanese" discussions is that you first need to have a chance at understanding what is being said. Choosing materials that are much higher than your level will not teach you the language. It doesn't matter how many times someone at HSK 1 hears “他是甘露之惠,我并无此水可还”, they will not get very far. Actual deduction and learning comes from having enough familiar components to be able to make deductions—something different than guessing. An HSK 1 learner, never having heard the word 老虎 will be able to understand "tiger" if someone says “这是我的老虎” while standing next to a tiger. This is not to say you can never try something more difficult—things should be challenging—but if you can't make heads or tails of what's being said, then it's time to find something a bit easier. If mistake 2 is about the type of method, this is about the level. If you wouldn't give a kindergartener The Great Gatsby to learn how to read, why would you watch Full Metal Alchemist to start learning a language?
Side note: Interesting video here on the Comprehensible Input hypothesis and how it relates to neurodivergence.
Fix: Immerse yourself in appropriate content for your level. It's called comprehensible input for a reason.
Mistake 5: On Translation
I work as a translator, so do you really think I'm going to say translation is all bad? Of course not. It's a separate skill that can be added on to the basic skills, but is really only required if you are A. someone who is an intermediary between two languages (say you have to translate for a spouse or family member) or B. It is your job/hobby. In the context of sitting down and learning, it can be harmful. I think my brain often goes to translation too often because that's how I used to learn. Trying to unlearn that is difficult because, well, what do people even mean when they say "don't translate"? They mean when someone says "thank you", you should not go to your primary language and translate "you're welcome" from that. You should train yourself to go to your target language first when you hear the word for "thank you". A very literally translated "thank you" in Chinese "谢谢你" can come off as cold and sarcastic. I don't tell my friends that, I say "谢啦~". Direct translation can take away the difference in culture, grammar, and politeness in a language. If there is a reason you sound awkward while writing and speaking, it's probably because you're imposing your primary language on your target language.
Fix: Try as hard as you can to not work from your primary language into the target language, but to work from the structures, set phrases, and grammar within the target language that you know first.
Mistake 6: The Secret Language Learners Don't Want You To Know...
...is that there is no one easy method. You are not going to learn French while you sleep, or master Korean by doing this one easy trick. Learning a language requires work and dedication, the people that succeed are those that push through the boredom of repetition and failure. The "I learned X in 1 year/month/week/day!" crowd is hiding large asterisks, be it their actual level, the assistance and free time available to them, "well actually I had already studied this for 4 years", or just straight-up lying. Our own journeys in our native tongue were not easy, they required years and years of constant immersion and instruction. While we are now older and wiser people that can make quick connections, we are also burdened with things like "jobs", "house work", "school work", and the digital black hole that is "social media" that take up our time and energy. Everything above is to help make this journey a little bit easier, quicker, and painless, but it will never be magic.
I find that language learning has a lot in common with the fitness community. People will talk about the workout that changed their life and how no other one will do the same—and it really can be the truth that it changed their life and that they feel it is the ultimate way. The real workout that will change your life is the one you're most consistent with, that you enjoy the most. Language learning is just trying to find the brain exercise that you can be the most consistent with.
Fix: Save your energy looking for shortcuts, and do the work, fail, and come back for more. If someone tells you that you can become fluent in a ridiculously short amount of time, they are selling you a fantasy (and likely a product). You get out what you put in.
For those that made it to the end, here are some of my "universal resources":
Refold Method: I don't agree with their actual method 100%, but they've collected a lot of great resources for learning languages. I've found their Chinese and Korean discords to also be really helpful and provided even more resources than what's given in their starter guides.
Language Reactor: Very useful, and have recently added podcasts as a material! The free version is honestly all you need.
Anki: If I do not mention it, the people with 4+ year streaks with a 5K word deck will not let me forget it. It can be used on desktop or on your phone as an app. If you need a replacement for a language learning app, this is one of them. Justin Sung has a lot of great info on how to best utilize Anki (as does Refold). It's not my favorite, but it could be yours!
LingQ: "But I thought you said language apps are bad!" In isolation, yes. Sorry for the clickbait. This one is pretty good, and more interested in immersing you in the language than selling a subscription to allow you to freeze your streak so the number goes up.
Grammar Textbooks: For self-taught learning, these are going to be the best resource since it's focused on the hardest part of the language, and only that. If you're tired of seeing group work activities, look for a textbook that is just on grammar (Modern Mandarin Chinese Grammar is my rec for Chinese, and A Guide to Japanese Grammar by Tae Kim is the most common/enthusiastic rec I've heard for Japanese).
Shadowing: Simply repeat what you hear. Matt vs Japan talks about his setup here for optimized shadowing (which you can probably build for a lot cheaper now), but it can also just be you watching a video and pausing to repeat after each sentence or near simultaneously if you're able.
Youtube: Be it "Short Story for Beginners", "How to use X", "250 Essential Phrases", or a GRWM in your target language, Youtube is the best. Sometimes you have to dig to find what works for you, but I imagine there is something for everyone at every level. (Pro tip: People upload textbook audio dialogues often, you don't even have to buy the textbook to be able to learn from it!)
A Friend: Be it a fellow learner, or someone who has already mastered the language, it is easier when you have someone, not only to speak to, but to remind you why you're doing this. I write far more in Chinese because I have friends I can text in Chinese.
Pen and Paper: Study after study, writing on paper continues to be the best method for memorization. Typing or using a pen and tablet still can't compare to traditional methods.
The Replies (Probably): Lots of people were happy to give alternatives for specific languages in the replies of my DL post. The community here is pretty active, so if this post blows up at least 20% of what the last one did, you might be able to find some great stuff in the replies and reblogs.
I wish you all the best~

Bucky’s introduction to weed was something you’d been supremely proud of.
When the two of you became roommates, you both had been kind of quiet and kept to yourselves at first, which isn’t too unusual, but you noticed that Bucky almost always had a frown etched into his handsome face. A frown that only ever softened after a night out with his friends and, you assumed, a decent hook-up. It never took long for that frown to reappear, though.
You didn’t know what could have been so stressful for him, but you knew he needed a way to relax, and not just for himself, either. The sight of him glumly moving around the apartment—honestly, you’ve never seen someone make fixing a bowl of cereal look so fucking sad—was beginning to weigh on your own nerves.
So, naturally, you thought of asking him if he’s ever tried weed. Somehow, his frown had deepened at that question. He said no, shocking absolutely no one, and then you asked if he wanted to try it. Admittedly, he was a little hesitant at first, but he eventually agreed.
The way his body, all two hundred and whatever pounds of muscle and angst, sank into the recliner like a ragdoll when the high really hit him made you grin. Though, to be fair, you were already smiling, what with you also being high. It was the first time you saw a real, genuine smile from Bucky, and you were immensely pleased to have given him a way to decompress from whatever kept him so tense all the time.
It became a sort of thing for you two. Saturday nights were for getting high, binge-watching Love Island (UK, because you both have class, thank you very much) and raiding the pantry for all the good snacks when the munchies hit. You’d never tell anyone, but those nights quickly became something you looked forward to every week, something you could cling to when your own life got a little difficult. Who knew smoking weed—and on a few special occasions, doing edibles—with your roommate would make a friendship blossom so prettily?
***
After how late Bucky got in last night, you knew he’d be sleeping in and would more than likely have a hangover. So, for this particular Saturday morning, you get up and quietly start gathering your laundry while Bucky snores loudly into his pillow from his bedroom. You were getting behind on it anyway, down to your last pair of clean shorts.
Before you put them on, though, you purse your lips in thought, staring at your pile of dirty clothes. You didn’t want to put on clean shorts with the panties and shirt you slept in last night. It would be smarter to wash them with the rest of your clothes, right? But that would leave you topless, which, you wouldn’t exactly be opposed to it, but you’re not sure Bucky would appreciate waking up to you walking around with your tits out. Or maybe he would? Whatever, it doesn’t matter.
You shake your head to clear your thoughts and then remember that Bucky did his laundry yesterday, and knowing him, he probably left at least some of his clean clothes in the dryer. Surely he wouldn’t mind you borrowing a shirt.
With that plan in mind, you dump your clothes into your laundry basket and make your way down the hall to the doors where your washing and drying units are (a major selling point of the apartment, if you’re honest). Just like you thought, Bucky’s left a load in the dryer, and even some of his button-downs are hung up on the drying rack. You quickly pull your t-shirt off, shivering against the cool air, and reach for one of the hangers, slipping his shirt off of it and onto yourself. For a dress shirt, it’s actually quite comfortable, obviously one of the shirts he wears more often with how soft and a little worn the fabric is. You shimmy your panties down your legs and add them to your pile, grabbing your clean shorts and tugging them on, too.
You make quick work of starting your first load of clothes, closing the doors to muffle the sound of the washer, and head back to your room to do your morning routine. By the time you’re done and have also cooked yourself breakfast, Bucky is staggering down the hall and into the kitchen, hair a tangled nest atop his head and eyes bleary.
Good morning, sunshine,” you greet with a teasing smile.
He flips you off and beelines for the coffee machine, pouring himself a cup and not speaking a word until he’s downed at least half of it. Part of you is concerned for his esophagus, but you’ve long since come to the conclusion that Bucky’s probably got a thing for pain—both physically and emotionally.
“Remind me to tell Sam he isn’t allowed to bring Natasha on our nights out anymore,” he grumbles, voice rough from both sleep and a long night of drinking. “I’ve never taken so many shots of vodka in my life.”
You hum. “Sounds like my kind of woman, actually.” He cuts his eyes at you, silently judging while taking another sip of his coffee. “Want me to fry up some bacon and eggs for you?” You almost laugh at the way his expression immediately switches to pleading.
The rest of the morning is spent finishing your laundry and putting it all away, even gathering up Bucky’s clothes that he’d left and dumping them on his bed. You’ll leave the folding to him, though; your generosity only extends so far, after all.
Lunch rolls around and you both decide to order takeout from the burger place down the street, Bucky shushing you when you keep insistently whispering for him to order extra truffle fries (which he does order, after you’ve sworn pain of death if he doesn’t) and once it arrives, the two of you settle around the coffee table in the living room, putting on a random movie to watch while you eat.
And of course, when the sun begins to lower on the horizon, you start pulling out your stash and getting everything ready. Bucky’s already got the windows open in the living room to let the smell air out as you smoke, and he also has Love Island queued up and ready to go.
While you smoke the first joint, you make the conscious decision to bake a small batch of brownies for later. Bucky sits on the counter beside you, passing the joint back and forth as he quietly watches you work. Wordlessly, you hand over the bowl and spoon to him after you’ve poured the batter into the awaiting pan. No matter how many times you’ve tried to warn him about salmonella he always insists on licking them clean.
Sometimes, in these moments, you forget how surly he used to be with you. Not that he was ever rude or anything, but he never would have pouted about not being able to eat raw brownie batter before you helped him break down some of those walls of his.
***
“He’s such a dick,” Bucky mumbles a while later, face impassive and tone bland as he refers to one of the islanders of the show, slouching so deeply into the couch he’s practically become one with it.
The high from the first joint is finally kicking in fully, doing its job of releasing every ounce of tension from your bodies. It’s also making your mouth dry and tummy rumble for snacks. Thank god you made those brownies and Bucky unearthed some candy from past movie nights and lots of chips out of the pantry cabinets.
You hum at his comment. “Most men are.”
Bucky turns his head in your direction with an affronted expression that has you snickering. He goes to reply, giving you the sassiest once-over you’ve ever seen, but his eyes doubletake on your torso and he pauses. He stares for a moment.
“That’s my shirt,” he states.
You look down at the shirt in question, of which you’ve worn all day long and somehow he’s only just now noticing.
“Wow, you’re like Sherlock Holmes or something,” you drawl.
Bucky stares some more, and then, “Why are you wearing my shirt?”
“Because I had laundry to do and I needed something to wear while all my stuff was washing,” you say in a “duh” tone.
“But…” He frowns. “It’s my favorite.”
You snort inelegantly. “Bucky, you literally have, like, at least four other white dress shirts.”
“So? What, I can’t have a favorite one just because I have more of the same color?”
“Christ,” you say on an exasperated exhale. “I’ll give it back before bed, okay? I don’t wanna move right now. I’m scared I’ll bump into stuff again.”
Bucky huffs a laugh at that, which turns into a full-blown giggle fit that is contagious. Soon after your shared laughter dies down, the conversation moves back to the illicit love triangles among the islanders. You trash talk the couple that Bucky likes, just to see him get riled up and rant about how they’re the most real couple of the season and everyone else is just jealous. He gets red in the face and pouty when you remind him that this is a heavily produced show about pretty people getting a chance to get famous for being pretty people by hooking up with each other and playing stupid games that mean nothing in the grand scheme of it all. Really, it’s quite cute.
To placate him, though, you get a second joint rolled and let him take the first hit.
***
Turns out this second one hits you rather harder than normal. It feels like your head is a balloon and your neck is the string tethering it to the rest of your body. Everything feels much more sluggish compared to all the other times you’ve gotten high with Bucky. Somewhere in the depths of your hazy brain you remember that you’d gotten a different brand this time around; perhaps that’s why.
On the tv, the islanders are getting ready for bed, and once the lights go out in their room, some of the couples engage in some serious heavy petting, lifting their comforters for a semblance of privacy. The sounds start next, sighs and low moans, and it all begins to settle into your subconscious. Between one lazy blink and the next, you realize you’re… actually kind of horny. It’s not enough for you to really pay attention to it, not at first, just a little sprinkle of it, a tiny twist in your core that briefly has you pressing your thighs together then relaxing again.
But then the arousal builds up inside you so slowly and easily that you don’t even realize your hand has apparently grown a mind of its own and found its way down your shorts. You inhale sharply at the touch of your fingers against your clit, lashes fluttering as the sensation registers. The sound gains Bucky’s attention from where he's been lounging on the opposite end of the couch with his head tipped back and eyes closed.
They’re not closed anymore. Out of your peripheral, you see his head shift in your direction, feeling the weight of his stare like a physical thing. Your mind is both connected and disconnected from your actions, half-aware that this is probably not the smartest thing to be doing, that you’re absolutely crossing a major boundary. Touching yourself in this way in front of your roommate, your friend, is so not normal.
Yet, for some idiotic reason, you leave your hand down your shorts, continuing to lightly pet at your clit, neediness rising steadily. Even though you know he’s watching—and suspiciously quiet—you can’t help but let your fingers slither down to where you’re beginning to drip to gather some of your slick and bring it back to your clit and swirling your fingers at a sedate pace, sighing as your nipples tighten underneath your shirt.
Bucky is as still as a statue, gaze honed in on the movement of your hand, on how your thighs ease open more and more the longer you play with your pussy.
It takes very little time for your eyes to wander over to the man just a couple feet away, and to then notice and fixate on the growing bulge in Bucky’s sweatpants. The weight of his stare is almost a physical thing and you swallow roughly as you think about what he might look like, if he’s at all how you’ve secretly imagined when you’re alone in your bedroom, in much the same position as you are in now.
His hands creep towards his thighs and smooth down the expanse of them and back up, slowly, over and over, like he’s teasing himself. Like he’s teasing you. Your fingers don’t stop as you lift your other hand to tweak and pinch at your nipples through well-worn cotton, a tiny noise slipping past your dry lips.
Bucky pulls the hem of his shirt up, exposing part of his toned stomach and only hesitates for a split second before he lowers the waistband of his pants, pulling his cock out and matching the pace of his strokes with the pace of your fingers. The head of his cock is pink and precum makes it shine under the low light of the lamps in the living room.
You bite your lip as your arousal increases from the sight alone, and you decide to follow his lead, just a bit. You whine from the loss of stimulation when you remove your hand to shimmy your shorts down and off your legs, letting them fall to the floor carelessly. And now, Bucky has an unrestrained view of your glistening cunt as you sink two of your fingers inside yourself and use your other fingers to rub all around your clit. It has you gasping, eyelids threatening to close through the pleasure that sparkles throughout every vein in your body.
It’s good. Amazing, even. And it’s only making you want more. Bucky, it seems, feels much the same.
“C’mere,” he rasps, tone leaving no room for arguing, never mind that you wouldn’t have argued anyway.
You sit up on the couch, knee-walking over to where he’s still in his slumped position, never pulling your hand away from your clit because it feels like you’d cry if you did. Bucky curses under his breath and lets go of his cock to firmly grab you by the hips and tug you onto his lap. Your pussy ends up aligned perfectly with his cock, and you both shudder as you begin gliding back and forth across it, small movements that only increase the suspense of what likely comes next. He meets your eyes, red and glazed over from both the high and the toe-curling feeling of his cock along your wet center.
The kiss, when it happens, tastes like weed and the peanut M&M’s you both were snacking on just a little while ago. Bucky's tongue licks into your mouth like he can’t get enough, nips at your bottom lip to hear you whimper, gets a fistful of your hair and pulls and guides you until you’re pliant for him.
He knocks your hand away from your clit, but before you can complain about it he’s nudging the head of his cock against your entrance and you’re gasping all over again, grinding sloppily as you try to get him inside you. He finally sinks the head in and you allow gravity to aid you in taking the rest of him, moaning brokenly and high pitched at the stretch of him inside you. Bucky groans deep in his chest, hands clutching your waist like a lifeline as you slowly circle your hips, getting used to the feeling.
You stay like that for a few minutes, your breath and Bucky’s mixing hotly between you, and then you finally start fucking yourself on his cock. He grunts when you clench around him on the downstroke. You decide you like the sound, and you really wanna hear it again, so you repeat the action, moaning when the grunt is accompanied by a curse and his fingernails biting into your skin.
It takes what feels like ages for you to realize your thighs and knees ache from riding him, the weed making everything feel like it’s floating, including yourself, but Bucky sees the furrow in your brows and the shaking strain of your legs, and in the next second, he’s got you both moved from the couch to the floor. Time ticks on glacially slow like molasses as you stare up at him whipping his shirt off from where you’re sprawled on the carpet, your limbs shifting lethargically when he spreads your legs to better fit himself between them.
He fucks you hard, but not fast. you’re both much too high for anything fast, yet it still feels like your heart is going to pulse out of your chest, rabbiting away like you’ve run a marathon. Bucky buries his face in your neck, mouthing at your skin while he thrusts almost lazily.
Suddenly, his large hands encapsulate your hips, fingers pressing into the fleshiest parts of them as he sits up, getting his knees under him so he can rest on his haunches. He keeps your ass in his lap and your legs spread on either side of his waist. It makes your back arch and hips tilt up into a position that has you shuddering and sobbing when he begins to grind his thick cock deeper into you.
“I could stay buried in you for hours,” he mutters.
He reaches for the throw pillows on the couch and puts them under your hips, and then he fucks into you so hard it steals the breath right from your lungs, your mouth hanging open on a silent cry. His thrusts are sharper now, angled to perfection and making your toes curl so hard you fear them cramping and body jolt when he glides all the way back in. You gasp when Bucky rips open your shirt (his shirt, your mind helpfully supplies) and sends the buttons scattering across the floor. Those will be a bitch to find and clean up, but that’s a problem for much later.
“Fuck,” he grunts when he sees the piercings glinting in your nipples. “I fucking knew it,” he continues, squeezing each of your breasts in his hands and pinching your nipples between his thumbs and forefingers, making you gasp again, pushing up into the sensation.
“Knew—“ You cut off with a whine when he pinches harder. “Knew what?”
“You walk around here wearing those goddamn cropped tank tops as tight as possible with no bra. Thought I was going crazy when I saw what looked like piercings underneath them,” he confesses as his hands travel back down to grip your waist, never losing his rhythm while he pulls you down to meet his thrusts.
At the sight of your tits bouncing with the movement of his hips, he groans, gravelly, his top lip curling as he grits his teeth and squeezes your hips so hard it hurts, and it only adds to your pleasure. With the way your skin is tingling, your pussy fluttering around him nonstop, you’re not sure if it’s because Bucky is fucking you that well or if it’s the weed. It’s probably both, and you have a split second thought that you’ll just have to test that theory once the high wears off.
It’s almost ironic, you think, how wet and messy your cunt is compared to how dry your mouth feels. It probably doesn’t help that your jaw seems to be permanently slack as you’re unable to stop your gasping inhales, only to exhale sounds you might be embarrassed about if you were clear-headed. Alas, your mind is a lot more focused on the way Bucky is splitting you open and carving a space inside you all for himself.
“So much better,” you whisper absently, fingers clawing at the carpet beneath you.
“Better than what?” he wonders, shifting to grip under your knees and push them up, changing the angle.
You cry out sharply, writhing uselessly in his hold. “My imagination,” you whimper.
Through bleary, tear filled eyes, you glance up at him just in time to see his lips pull into a boyish smirk.
“Mine too,” he confesses and sends you reeling.
You whine and reach down quickly to rub your throbbing clit, your whole body jerking as your pleasure mounts higher and higher. Bucky moans as he watches, stare trained on where you’re joined. His speed does pick up then, the slightest bit, a shudder wracking his frame as you clench down on him, head tipping back and exposing the long expanse of his throat for a brief moment before he suddenly leans over you, letting your legs fall into the cradle of his elbows.
“Won’t you be good for me and cum?” he asks, breathless, hips never letting up.
You open your mouth to reply but all that comes out is a strangled cry of his name, your fingers keeping their pace as your climax swells until it overflows, bursting like a firework and pleasure like you’ve never felt before sparks through every vein, muscle, and bone within you. Bucky curses in such a way it would make a sailor blush as you pulse around him. The sounds of your orgasm and his thrusts meeting your hips are the filthiest things you’ve ever heard, and it doesn’t stop for several moments, dragging on and on. It leaves you trembling and shaking and trying futilely to gather air in your lungs as he refuses to let up.
With great resolve, you bring your wet fingers away from your sensitive clit and up to his panting mouth. He groans at your taste, licking and sucking on your fingers as he chases his own release.
“Please,” you whisper, tears finally escaping your lashes and trailing down the sides of your face, and that seems to be his undoing.
Bucky moans, something high and broken, fucking into you rough enough that you’re worried about carpet burn. But then he pauses, gasping as he finally lets go and rides out his high.
Your hand slips from his mouth and falls to the floor like a deadweight. The only noise in the room now is the both your and Bucky’s harsh breathing and the television still playing that stupid fucking show. Bucky doesn’t move right away, of which you’re very thankful, because you’re not ready to feel the emptiness you know is coming, and it feels nice in a weird way to have him buried in you.
“Fuck,” he exhales, breaking the relative silence.
It makes you giggle, a small thing that turns into something uncontrollable, and when you manage to look at Bucky, he’s grinning in a dopey way that sets you off even more.
This is definitely something the two of you will have to talk about when you’re both sober, but like the buttons, that can be handled later. Although, something tells you it’ll all turn out just fine.

Elevator—
After breaking up with your boyfriend, Steve unexpectedly swoops in to be your rebound.
a/n: this one was in the drafts for a min and i finally made it! enjoy! -bird
cw: smut | 3.5k words | f!reader | fuckboy!steve | protected | oral f! + m! receiving | fingering | pinv
————
The electric hum of the fluorescent lights seemed to taunt you as you made your way to the elevator door. You had been so raw with emotion for hours that you stood motionlessly as if any sudden moments would have you fall apart completely. Even the gentle ding of the elevator car arriving made you jump.
Steve Harrington was already inside when you practically limped in. Faint rings of makeup surrounded your eyes and your hair was carelessly tossed into a low ponytail. He chuckled, assuming you were having a similar morning to his.
A charming smile appeared on his lips as he said “Taking the ol’ walk of shame, huh? Me too-”
“Steve, please shut up. I just got dumped,” You interrupted him before he said anything that would humiliate you further.
His thick eyebrows connected as he processed what you said. “Oh damn. I’m sorry I just thought-“
“It’s fine, I’m fine. I just want to move on with my day,” You said shakily, brushing off any fake sympathetic bullshit you assumed he was going to make.
You and Steve had a few classes together and passed by each other quite a bit due to your now ex-boyfriend staying in the same dorm building, but nothing more.
Steve's smile dropped and was replaced by a pout as you cut him off. He stood up straight, leaning back against the wall of the elevator and crossing his arms over his chest as he let out a low whistle. "Damn. Sounds like it didn't end so great,"
He looked you up and down and felt a pang of sympathy in his chest. He was never good at comforting others, but he wanted to cheer you up somehow. He stayed silent for a moment before eventually blurting out "That boyfriend of yours sounds like a tool."
You snorted in response to his comment.
“Yeah, he was the fucking worst,” You laughed at yourself for having such a cold demeanor when you walked in. “I’m sure I saw something good in him in the beginning, but I’m not going to stick around for a guy who can’t figure his shit out,” You shook your head.
Steve chuckled, crossing his arms over his chest. "I think we all go through that phase," he reassured you. The corner of his mouth tugged upwards in a slight smile as his brown eyes flickered with mischief. "So, am I right in assuming you had a sleepless night? I can only hope he at least gave you a good send-off,"
You scoffed as you turned to look at him. “Are you asking if I had break-up sex, Harrington?”
You took slight offense to his insinuation, but what did you really expect from the jock with half a brain. You decided to take it lightly and not deck him in the face at this moment.
Steve raised his hands defensively, letting out an exaggerated gasp that turned into a laugh as he smirked back at you.
"Just asking the important questions, sweetheart. No need to get all fired up."
He leaned back against the wall of the elevator, cocking an eyebrow in a teasing manner. "I take it that means no, then?"
You bit your cheek, contemplating if you wanted to divulge that information.
“No, we didn’t have sex last night,” You admitted in a frustrated grumble.
A smirk threatened to creep up on your lips as you thought of how ridiculous this conversation was. You weren’t the type to share the gory details of your relationship, but here Steve was, somehow charming his way into talking to you more.
The elevator dinged and you walked out first. Steve couldn't help but let out a low whistle in response to your answer. His smirk grew a bit wider as he followed you out of the elevator. His eyes scanned over you for a moment before he spoke again.
"Damn, what a waste of a night."
He fell into step beside you, stuffing his hands in his pockets as he glanced over at you. "So, you must think I'm heartless now, huh? I'd be pretty surprised if you didn't think that, at this point,"
“I do think you’re kind of being an asshole. I did just get my heart broken and all,” You scoffed teasingly.
You were headed back to your dorm, not sure how to shake off Steve. Of course he was being incredibly insensitive, you didn’t expect much else from guys like him.
Steve chuckled, throwing out his hands in a defensive manner as he protested, "Hey, I'm just being honest here. If you want some sensitive bullshit, go find a guy with more depth than a puddle. I'm just giving my two cents,"
He walked right alongside you, keeping pace with your stride as he glanced over at you. He took note of your destination and smirked a bit. "So we're heading back to your place, huh?"
“No,” You said, shaking your head rapidly. “I’m going back to my place and you’re just following me around like a creep,”
You had a sarcastic smile as you walked a bit faster with your arms folded on your chest. Every few steps you’d look back to see Steve’s shit-eating grin.
Steve chuckled as he followed after you, his long legs easily keeping up with your pace. He matched your expression with a smirk of his own, enjoying your attitude even if you were trying to kick him out.
"Oh come on. Don't be like that," he sucked his teeth. "I'm not being a creep, I'm just making sure that you get back safely. Isn't that what a gentleman does?"
You rolled your eyes as you finally got to your dorm. You unlocked the door and said “My hero. How else was I supposed to travel to the building next door, in broad daylight, on a very private campus?” You stepped inside and closing the door halfway.
You poked your head out once more. “Thank you, Steve. I’ll see you around,”
Steve leaned against the door frame with a sly smile on his face. His eyes sparkled with mischief as he looked down at you, his arms crossed over his chest.
"You could at least invite me in, after I've been such a good chaperon, making sure you got back safe and sound."
You groaned before you swung the door open. “Fine. Would you like to come in, Harrington?”
You knew you shouldn’t let him in, but he was too persistent and irritating. You thought if you wasted enough of his time, he’d eventually get bored and get out of your hair.
Steve's smirk widened as you finally relented and opened the door wider. He sauntered in as if he owned the place, his eyes scanning the room with an almost predatory look.
"Don't mind if I do."
He flopped down on your bed, propping his arms behind his head like he was right at home, and winked at you.
You crinkled your nose in disgust as he lay there like he was expecting something out of you. You took a seat on your floor, studying him with a tilted head like he was a zoo animal in its enclosure. Steve watched take a seat on the floor, his eyes taking in your appearance without an ounce of subtlety.
"You just gonna watch me lay here, or...?" he teased, arching an eyebrow in your direction.
“Yup. Just waiting until you’re ready to leave,” You smiled with a fake innocence.
You brought up your legs, resting your chin on your knees with an unamused look. You were cursing yourself for even putting yourself there in the first place. If only you kept your mouth shut on that stupid elevator.
“I know you want me to stay a while," he teased, his voice low and sultry. "We're all alone, in your room just the two of us,"
You nodded and laughed briefly before your expression soured. The way he shamelessly checked you out annoyed you like nothing else.
“Steve, I’m not sleeping with you. I literally just got out of a relationship,”
Steve rolled his eyes, a mocking pout appearing on his face as he let out a low huff.
"Well, a guy can dream, can't he?" he retorted, his tone playful. “You know it might do you some good to get over that loser. I can guarantee you'd have a better time with me."
You sharply exhaled through your nostrils as you let the idea dance in your head for a minute. You hadn’t cried since Steve showed up this morning. You hadn’t even thought of your ex really since Steve showed up. You knew you were going to have to get a rebound sometime and he was already here in your dorm room, practically begging to fuck you.
“Alright, fuck it. I’m game, Harrington,” You said bluntly, almost harshly.
In two fluid motions, you tossed your top off and unzipped your skirt that fell to your ankles.
Steve's eyes widened as you started to undress in front of him, his cocky expression replaced with a look of pleasant surprise. He let out a low whistle
"Damn, you don't mess around," he stated, his eyes roaming over the expanse of bare skin. He swallowed, licking his lips before speaking again. "You sure about this, sweetheart? I don't want you to do something you'll regret."
“Oh, now you’re suddenly concerned about how I feel about this situation?” You rolled your eyes and scoffed. You rummaged through your nightstand drawer and tossed a silver sachet at Steve’s chest.
“C’mon Stevie put your money where your mouth is,” You teased, growing excited with the shift in the room.
Steve let out a low scoff as he caught the sachet in one hand, his eyes glancing down at it for a moment before returning to you. His smirk grew as he saw the excitement in your eyes and he sat up on the bed, his gaze trailing down your body once again.
He leaned forward and patted his lap, his usual cocky smirk returning to his face. "Come here then, sweetheart. Let's see if you can handle me." he quipped, a hint of amusement in his voice as he placed the condom onto the bed.
“Oh please, do you think that’s the first time I heard that?” You giggled.
You sauntered over to him with your hands behind your back, then loomed over him for a moment as he sat just a foot in front of you. “Don’t get shy on me now. Whip it out, Steve,”
Steve chuckled at your comment, his eyes flicking down to your hands behind your back. He raised his eyebrows in anticipation, his gaze following you as you approached.
"Not shy, sweetheart. Just making sure you know what you're getting into," he teased, his voice low and seductive.
He reached down and began to unbutton his jeans, his eyes never leaving yours. You broke eye contact first as he drew his pants and boxers down with an uncoordinated tug. As his length unfurled in front of you, you swore you heard it thump on his muscular thigh. Your mouth hung open involuntarily. You picked it up as you covered your mouth, preventing your giggles of pleasant surprise from leaking out.
“Woah… good for you,” was all you managed to get out.
Steve chuckled at your reaction, letting out a low laugh as he leaned back on one hand, his confidence fully returning as he watched you stare at him.
"Like what you see?" He was clearly enjoying the fact that he had managed to catch you off guard, his smirk widening as he saw your eyes widen slightly.
"Don't just stare, babe. You're more than welcome to touch too," he added, gesturing towards himself with a tilt of his head.
You scoffed humorously, re-tying your ponytail before crouching down on the floor before him. You fit yourself in the space between his legs, still admiring him in his bare glory.
“You know you don’t have to talk like we’re in some bad porno. I already agreed to this,” You muttered.
You bit your lip, concentrating on his form. His cock bobbed with excitement as you softly dragged your fingertips down its length. A moan rumbled out of Steve, bringing a wide grin to his face. Steve chuckled, his smile widening as he watched you approach him, his eyes following you as you shifted into a comfortable position between his legs. He tilted his head back for a moment, his eyes fluttering closed before opening back up to watch you.
"Sorry. Just trying to set the mood," he mumbled through a low breath, trying to keep his cool but losing it quickly.
It was another answer you would easily roll your eyes at, but you couldn’t even think about right now. You could only think about touching him. Your fingers slowly found themselves around his girth, feeling the weight of it as you held his cock steady.
“Is this okay?” You asked in a choked breath. Slowly your fingers rolled against his length, squeezing gently with every stroke.
His size was something you weren’t going to forget anytime soon. You studied it, wide-eyed, wondering how you were ever going to fit it inside you. Steve let out a low moan, his head tilting back for a moment as his eyes fluttered closed again.
"God...yeah that-that's fine," he assured you, his voice low and rough as he spoke.
He lifted his head back up to watch you explore him, the look you had, only making his ego grow. He sat back, propped up by his arms. His happy trail of hair led up to his abs, led up to his broad chest, led up to his gorgeous face that was contorted in pleasure.
You leaned forward from your heels and fit as much of him as you could, your drool coating his dick thoroughly. Steve's eyes widened in surprise as he felt your mouth envelop him, his arms almost giving out as he let out a low, guttural moan. He kept his eyes trained on you as you took him deep, his breath hitching in his throat as he felt the warmth of your mouth.
Your hands adventurously found their way to the tops of his thighs, finding another point to steady yourself as you let his length part your lips and slip into your mouth. Wet smacks of spit sang in harmony with Steve’s moans.
“How was that?” You asked breathlessly as you bobbed your head back up to see him.
Steve’s eyes were hazy with lust and his chest heaving as he tried to steady his breathing. He'd never had someone blow him with such eagerness and enthusiasm, and he couldn't help but be in awe of you.
"That was incredible," he mumbled, his voice rough and breathless. "You're a natural."
You tried not to grin so hard from pride, but you could tell he was genuine in his compliment due to the hue of pink on his cheeks.
“Are you sure you’re not just saying that?” You teased, already knowing his answer. “You don’t tell that to every girl you hook up with?”
You pushed up on his thighs, bringing yourself back up to eye level with Steve. Your gaze flicked between his eyes and lips with an intense hunger.
"Oh sweetheart, I don't have to lie. I’ve got no reason to," he replied with a cocky smirk, his eyes roaming over your chest before meeting yours.
"You’re not like any girl I’ve been with." He leaned forward slightly, his hands reaching out to grab your hips, pulling you closer to him, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “And I’m definitely not like anything like your dog shit ex-boyfriend of yours. Want me to show you?”
What you would’ve done to get even an ounce of the attention Steve was giving you without a second thought. At a dizzying speed, he encircled your waist with his arm and spun you around, causing you to fall back on your bed.
Giggles caused your body to bounce against your mattress. Those laughs combined with soft whimpers filled the air as he lifted your legs a bit, planting your feet flat on the bed. He then took your previous spot on the floor, down on his knees, and draped over the bed with his body nestled between your legs.
“What are you doing, crazy?” You asked with a breathy tone.
Steve’s hands were firm but gentle as he maneuvered your legs.
"I'm gonna show you just how much better I am than that loser ex of yours," he stated matter-of-factly, a cocky smirk on his face as he knelt in front of you.
He ran his hands up your inner thighs, pressing soft kisses along the sensitive flesh as he moved closer to your center.
Curiosity caused you to tilt your head down to see him and you were instantly met with those giant brown eyes of his. You felt a puff of air fan your entrance as he chuckled against you. You were just getting used to the sensation before he replaced a slow, prolonged lick against your folds. Your eyes rolled to the back of your head and your head followed down to the bed.
His mouth worked away at you, making obscene and messy noises as he lapped and nipped at your throbbing clit. The overwhelming rush of pleasure was causing your legs to close in on him and your hand to grab a fistful of his shaggy chestnut hair. You rolled your hips into him, which he only encouraged with the way he was devouring you. Two fingers swiped back and forth over your eager hole, each motion applying more pressure than the last until they slipped right in.
“Shit… Steve,” You could only manage to whisper his name as you squirmed underneath him.
With every sound that managed to escape your lips, Steve only worked with more enthusiasm. He was fully enjoying this, feeling proud of himself for the reactions he was getting out of you. He expertly kept a steady rhythm with his digits, pumping in and out of you.
“I think… I think I’m going to-”
Your peak was just seconds away from being yours but was suddenly ripped away from you as he reluctantly pulled away. You were about to let him hear it. A letdown like that has never happened to you. With your body propped up by your elbows, you investigated what was the reason for your nearly-ruined orgasm.
“Something wrong, baby?” Steve’s smirk distracted you. Before you could let your anger make a mess of things, you looked down to see that he had rolled the condom over his achingly hard cock.
“Oh you impatient little thing,” he hummed as he pressed a hand down on your lower stomach.
A languid thrust brought the entirety of his length to slide inside of you. You could see stars in your vision as you felt him fill you. His body molded to yours as he was grinding down into you. He could barely stay coherent himself, but he managed to tell you “Shit, I don’t think I can go slow anymore, babe. Will you let me take you?” he asked in a gruff voice.
“No, please. I want it,” your voice had a similar hoarse quality to it.
“Let me just-” Steve muttered as he slipped his arms underneath you, hooking over your shoulders as he pressed his body into yours.
It was almost too easy with his feet still firmly on the floor. He lifted his heels to push himself repeatedly and at the same time, his muscular arms pulled you onto him. His forehead was on the mattress as he rutted against you repeatedly. With his ear right beside your head, it gave him the perfect spot to hear every filthy moan that slipped out of your mouth. His thrusts felt endless as if you would be stuck pulsing over his dick for the rest of your life, each one building that familiar feeling you were previously chasing.
“You’re getting tighter. Are you close?” He struggled to get out.
“Yeah, almost there,”
“Oh fuck,” Steve whimpered, the sounds getting higher in pitch as he climaxed.
The desperate pumps had you following right after him. The animalistic growls that escaped him completely overpowered your whines. He then collapsed onto you, his hot breaths covering your neck. Both of your delirious giggles filled the room as you combed through his sweaty hair. He lazily lifted his head, revealing his bright red face.
“Well, that was fun,” You mused as you traced your thumb along his jaw.
“See? And you weren’t going to let me in,” Steve kissed your cheek, making sure the noise from it was obnoxiously loud. “Your ex is a goddamn idiot for letting you slip away,” He mumbled into your collarbone.

“Here again, Azriel?”
“I picked up Lucien’s shift,” Azriel explained, moving the pan side to side atop the flame.
Elain hummed, her hip against the counter. “You all have such weird names.”
Azriel rose a brow. “Your sister’s name is Nesta. And Feyre isn’t very common either.”
“Yes, well my sisters are included in my definition of ‘all’.”
Azriel hummed, pinching salt into the pan and flipping its contents. The heat from the stovetop warmed his fingers as he went, calling his attention to the tan lines along his knuckles—rings he constantly needed to remove for work, an action that had been even more prevalent in recent weeks.
Elain spoke up again. “I feel like I see you here every time I work.”
“You call out every other shift. Of course you’re going to see me on the off-chance you come in,” Azirel droned, but there was a hint of a smile on his face that had Elain scoffing out a laugh.
“Oh, ha ha,” Elain mocked. “But seriously, Az, you’re always in this kitchen. I know for a fact that Rhysand wouldn’t make his best friend work so much. What’s the deal?”
Azriel knocked his head to the side as he considered Elain’s question. He plated the meal he had been working on—the one that would send Elain and her barrage of questions away—and set it on the counter she occupied. He gave his hands a quick wash, flipping a hand towel over his shoulder and crossing his arms. The waitress had not moved from her spot.
“Money.”
Elain did not budge. “Money? You? I know you can afford that house of yours without all of these hours. Rhys pays you far too much.”
Azriel gave her a look as if to say that’s my explanation. Take it or leave it.
Elain was not taking that explanation, clearly. Azriel watched her roll her eyes and let out another scoff before swiping the plate from the counter.
“Always so stupidly secretive,” she huffed. “You are ridiculous.”
Elain missed the small laugh Azriel breathed out as she left in a flurry.
Azriel then noticed the small break in orders that was typical for this time of day and used the opening as an excuse for his break. He called out to the others in the kitchen and then made his way to the dining room with his phone loosely gripped in his hand.
A few taps on the screen and your voice came through.
“Hi, Az,” you greeted, a smile clear in your words.
“Hi, baby,” he smiled right back. The earring on his right ear clicked against the phone as he licked his lips and continued. “You not in class?”
“I tried to plan my schedule around your lunch rush. No class between the hours of two and four.”
Azriel felt his face heat a fraction. “Right. Forgot about that.”
You giggled. “So, how’s work? I didn’t expect you to go in this morning.”
“It’s fine. Work. I was just picking up a shift as a favor. But I’ll be off in time to get you for dinner.”
Azriel listened as something shuffled in the back of your call—bikers whizzing past you, he assumed. That damn campus always gave him a heart attack. You called out a small apology he was sure no one was listening to before speaking to him once more.
“You seem to owe a lot of favors, Az. Are you causing that much trouble over there?” you joked.  A small pause. “Also, do you think we could eat in? I don’t really have the money for a restaurant right now. My financial aid is not aiding me in the ways it should.”
Azriel felt his heart clench at the humorless laugh you released. You lived on campus and relied on the school’s dining plan which did very little for you nutritionally and emotionally. He had offered—countless times—for you to live with him or let him buy you groceries or just straight-up give you money, but none of that made you comfortable.
So, Azriel found other ways to solve this problem.
Azriel hummed in feigned contemplation. “We could. But the boss gave me a gift card to that new place downtown. I figured we could use it to celebrate.”
“Oh yeah? And what are we celebrating?”
“You.”
“Me?” you asked with an incredulous laugh. “Why on earth would we be celebrating me? All I’ve done recently is complain and cry a few times.”
Azriel couldn’t remove the smile from his face. He slotted his wrist in the crook of his elbow as he leaned against the wall outside the restaurant. Damn you and all the ways you made him melt in public.
“You only cried twice this month. We should celebrate that record. Not to mention you were crying over chemistry which we established was an acceptable response to that class.”
You gasped and began rambling about your chemistry professor. Azriel briefly checked his watch and relished in the fact that he had twenty more minutes to listen to you speak. He happened to miss, however, the waitress who was listening in just around the corner.
Elain was furious.
First, Azriel had a girlfriend that she had no idea about. Which was ridiculous because Elain considered Azriel to be one of her closest friends. And second—and perhaps most appalling—Rhysand was handing out gift cards to the staff and she had not been a recipient of this graciousness.
Elain narrowed her eyes and glared and the stucco lining the building before she slammed her way through the restaurant and straight into Rhysand’s office. The man calmly glanced up from his computer upon her arrival, an amused brow raised at her apparent fury.
“Hello, Elain,” he greeted. Rhysand leaned back in his chair and interlaced his fingers at his stomach. “You seem in high spirits.”
“Where’s my gift card?” she demanded, closing the door behind her with a harsh click. “You’re giving out gift cards and I have yet to receive one.”
Rhysand blinked. “I haven’t given out any gift cards.”
“And now you’re lying—great.” Elain plopped down in the cushioned chair on the other side of Rhysand’s desk. “I just heard Azriel talking about a gift card to that insanely expensive place that just opened. Rita’s or something. And he was talking to his girlfriend—did you know he had a girlfriend?”
“I did—”
Elain hadn’t been looking for a response. “He said you gave it to him. If you’re playing favoritism I will call the Better Business Bureau. And I’ll tell Nesta. You know how she gets around you. Also, why does Azriel, like, live here? Aren’t there laws around overtime? None of his seems fair and—”
“Elain,” Rhysand calmly interrupted. “May I answer any one of your questions? Or, perhaps, speak?”
Elain bit the inside of her cheek and nodded in annoyance.
“Perfect.” Rhysand crossed his ankle over his knee. “I haven’t given out any gift cards. If I do, I promise you’ll be the first to know. It’s possible that Azriel used me as a way to take his girlfriend out to dinner—as he has done countless times. If you were to meet her, you’d see why that was a necessity. She’s very much like Feyre in that way. In that explanation is also the reason why Azriel is always here, working.”
Elain felt her vexation deflate, but some of it lingered. “And why are you so knowledgeable about this mysterious girlfriend?”
Rhysand only shrugged. “Azriel’s private. Protective. He knows all of you are a bunch of gossips.”
Elain scoffed for the countless time that afternoon, still pissed that there was no gift card to be had.

It started with a sore throat after patrol. Nothing too scary and you made yourself a warm tea to make it go away before going to sleep. But it was bold of you to assume that it won't get worse overnight. Tea isn't medicine after all.
It started to get worse in school, the next morning. You noticed the tremors going through your body and light sweat covering your skin as you went through each period, but you didn't want to skip the day just because of that. So, you powered through, even when you felt like a walking zombie by the end of it. After you managed all your classes, you get back home and make the agonizing way upstairs. Entering your room felt like heaven, being reliefed that it's over, but now you have to take care of yourself somehow.
Settling down in the kitchen, you make another hot tea and slice up some fruits, in hopes the vitamins will make you fitter. You sit down at the kitchen table with a light grunt, only now noticing the terrible aching of your limbs.
To make your throat hurt less, you take a few careful sips before you take a few small slices and try eating them. It feels refreshing but swallowing them down feels like getting sand paper getting shoved down your throat. And taking sips of hot tea doesn't help your case. So, you give up on eating the whole plate and leave it half-finished at the table. After downing the last sips of your cup, you move back upstairs and snuggle into your fuzzy blankets.
It feels heavenly and you wait for the shiver to go away, starting to warm up slowly under the mountains of blankets. Still in school uniform, you take a short nap, which didn't feel satisfying or restful at all. Your body keeps shivering and your head is pounding with a dull ache, not even being able to relax fully by yourself. Being fed up and still sick, you slowly creep your way towards the Batcave since your first aid kit in your room doesn't have medicine, and the most useful stuff should be down there.
Your aching limbs manage to carry you down to the elevator, eventually getting to the medical section of the batcave. The cold climate of the cave doesn't help you, only making the shivers become more violent. But you find the needed items for your fever and some for your runny nose, eventually turning around to get back upstairs.
There stands the smaller but chilling creature, your younger brother. You jump up and almost let the packets of medicine down before you compose yourself quickly
»What are you planning with the medicine? Are you sick?«
It's clear by his tone that he's worried, but he still frowns up at you, arms crossed tightly.
»Uhm... « That came more as a croak, clearing your throat as you try to speak up properly. »Yeah... fever. « You finally manage out and sigh out afterwards, which only results into a coughing fit.
Damian leans away lightly, even though you're coughing into your inner elbow and try not to face him while doing so. With narrowed eyes, the younger teen gets the medicine from your hands and nods to the elevator.
»Please go upstairs and try not to slip and die. I will handle this for you.«
Despite his rough approach at this, you know that he only means well. With a softer expression, you get back into the Mansion and you make your agonizing way upstairs all over again. Finally there, you change into more comfortable clothes and collapse back onto bed. Waiting for Damian to return, you do nothing but stare up at the celing tiredly, and wish last night wasn't so rainy during patrol.
But you don't have much time thinking about it, hearing a short knock before Damian steps in with a bigger tray in hands. He comes closer and sets the tray on to your night stand, looking you over again.
Damian prepares a few pills and hands them over to you with a cup of water. »Take these.«
After swallowing down the few meds, you finally take in what's on that tray he brought in. There's a steaming cup of tea and a bowl of soup, a smaller plate with garlic bread and there's also a banana. He rubs the back of his neck as you take it in, eventually taking the bowl and almost salivate.
»I wish my nose would be working right now...« You rasp out, voice being mostly broken due to the fever and your stuffy nose. Damian presses his lips tightly together, eventually gesturing to the tray.
»Eat up. I know it's not the best, but at least you'll be better afterwards... do you need anything?« You shake your head at his words and start eating the warm soup, feeling like you might just descend into the sky. Your younger brother eventually quits your room and trusts you to rest up, even though he'll make sure to check up on you every now and then.
After finishing some of the soup and fresh garlic bread, you got back into your sheets and took a proper nap. Your fever went slightly away during that time, still feeling a bit cranky when you wake up. It's later into the evening and you're unsure if you can patrol tonight. Your determined mind, however, comes up with every excuse to go out anyway. A few moments later there's a short knock at your door before Damian enters again, checking up.
»How's your fever?« He asks straight away, coming up to the edge of your bed. You shrug lightly, leaning back against your headboard.
»Better, I think I'm healing up. Was just a bit dramatic earlier.« Knowing him, he will definitely be against going out on patrol with you tonight. So, you wait for his answer, but he doesn't and simply presses the back of his hand on your forehead. He frowns lightly, letting go after a moment.
»You're not dramatic. But that fever is dramatic. You need rest.« He stubbornly crosses his arms and tilts his head up, trying to look down at you this way. It makes you huff out, shortly after getting another coughing fit. Damian proves himself right and grins lightly, eventually handing you the banana you didn't finish up.
»Eat. I'm sure father won't you let out tonight either.«
And with that, he turns on his heel and leaves your room without further argument.
You stay in your bed for the rest of the evening, getting another portion of food from Damian for dinner. This time it was a salad and some warm mashed potatoes, saying that you should eat some light food but with enough nutrition. It does make you feel satisfied and you take another nap without even realising.
He quietly takes the dishes out of your room while you sleep, eventually leaving you alone again to rest up plenty. And indeed, when Bruce finally goes up to check up on you, he won't let you go out to patrol and instead makes sure that Alfred will keep an eye on you, ensuring him that you won't sneak out.
Now bored and sick, you do your studies as best you can, but eventually give up on them as well, after being unable to concentrate due to your growing headache. Falling asleep another time, Damian comes back inside after patrol and tucks you in properly, carefully laying your studies away and takes you in briefly before leaving to his own bed. He would be lying if he said he isn't worried. He almost panicked when he saw your pale and tired face back in the Batcave, having thought something way more serious has happened. But even after taking care of you like this, he still feels a tiny bit concerned. Be assured you'll be made fun of once you get back on your feet.

Would it be okay if you could write deaf!reader x Eddie where she’s new at school and meets Eddie. The rest can be up to you. Thank you xxx
I have never written a deaf character before so the representation might be off, but I gave it a shot! I know in movies and shows, sometimes they can talk and sometimes it is just sign language, but I went with writing notes to make it romantic. I hope this is what you wanted and you enjoy it. Thank you for requesting 🫶🏻
I wrote a scene with a guitar amp and it was so hard to keep this story sweet and fluff and not turn it into smut

It didn't take long for the new girl to catch Eddie's eyes. She was cute and seemed to be in her own little world. Eddie admired that she never seemed to care what happened around her.
He wanted to talk to her, but he wasn't the best at making a first impression. He wasn't the best at saying what he meant out loud. He was a writer. He wrote countless songs because he knew how to write down his feelings, not say them.
She was in a few of his classes, and he sat behind her. He watched as she walked into class, admiring her style. He assumed she was shy since she never spoke. She sat silently in class and kept to herself.
Eddie ripped out a piece of paper from a notebook he never touched. He scrambled down a message, then folded it. He took a deep breath and reached forward to tap her on the shoulder.
She turned around confused. She looked as the boy handed her something. She grabbed the note as she examined him.
He was mad cute. He had dark curly long hair, warm brown eyes, and pink lips. He wore a red and black flannel with dark jeans and dirty sneakers. She wished she could just stare but she didn't want to be creepy. She turned around and unfolded the paper.
"I'm Eddie, what's your name?"
She smiled to herself as she wrote her name underneath his. With a smile. She turned around and handed it back to him.
Eddie was shocked she wrote back to him. Before he could stare at her any longer, she turned around. Finally being that close to her face he realized she was prettier than ever.
His stomach fluttered as he saw her name and a tiny smile. Pleased that she didn't ignore him or write a mean message back.
"Well Y/N welcome to Hawkins High School. It sucks ass. The town is a little better, if you want a tour or anything I'm available."
She smiled as she felt a tap on her shoulder again, the teacher focused on the board as she turned. Her face burned as her fingers touched his as she took the note.
Eddie watched as her body moved up and down as she shook her head. He smiled as it seemed like she was laughing to herself. She felt nervous about saying yes, but she also didn't want to say no.
"Only if you promise to show me a great burger place ;)"
She waited until the teacher wasn't paying attention as she turned around and gave him the note. She turned around fast and Eddie opened it. He smiled and patted himself on the back.
The bell rang and she began to pack up. Eddie took a deep breath and walked in front of her desk.
"Hey Y/N," she looked up as she felt his presence. She focused on his lips. "Want to go after school today?"
She smiled and nodded
"Sweet, I'll meet you at the front?" he asked, he felt his face burn as she leaned close and stared at his lips. Her eyes squinted as she fully focused.
She nodded and smiled again. Waving goodbye as she walked to her next class.
~
Eddie waited outside the front door. He was nervous but excited. Befriending the new kid wasn't something Eddie ever did, but there was something about her that he wanted to know.
He smiled as she came into view, she waved as she got closer.
They didn't talk as they headed to his van. A couple students whispered as the two passed. And some students began to yell "FREAK!"
He felt comforted by the fact she didn't seem to notice it. And if she did, she ignored it.
Eddie started the van and turned down his radio, he remembered how loud he had it blaring this morning. He smiled over at her and she smiled back.
~
It didn't take long to make it to the burger place. The ride was a tad awkward as she didn't really talk, it more was of Eddie talking to himself.
They got seated in a booth, Eddie sat across from her as he nervously flipped through the menu.
He felt a soft tap on his menu, and he looked up.
Y/N smiled as she handed him a piece of paper.
He took the paper and read it, his eyebrows scrunched.
"I should probably tell you that I am deaf, so I'll be staring at your lips to communicate with you. Also, can you order for me?"
Eddie smiled and nodded. He snatched her pen and quickly wrote his own message.
She happily read it as he wrote
"No problem, I've been told I talk too much so maybe you not hearing me talk is a win. I will order for you, what would you like?"
Her heart raced as he moved on from the topic like it didn't change anything.
"Bacon cheeseburger, fries, and chocolate shake. Thank you for this, I'm excited to get to know you better and would love to watch you talk for hours :)"
~~~
The first date went amazing in Eddie's eyes. He didn't mind writing down his words, he enjoyed watching her reactions as she read the words. They ate, and he made her laugh over and over.
He knew he wanted to ask her on another date, he wanted to ask her out every night of the week.
She waved as she walked into class, Eddie gave her a flirty nod that made her dash for her seat faster.
He grabbed a piece of paper and began writing but she slid a note right on top of his.
He looked up as she turned around.
He opened it as the teacher wasn't looking
"Date #2? I saw an ice cream place on our tour yesterday."
~
Eddie came prepared for this date, he had a notebook and all different kinds of pens.
She waited on a bench outside as he ordered their ice cream. He prayed he'd make it to her before dropping any on the ground.
She smiled as he sat down next to her and handed her the ice cream. The first few minutes were silent as they tried to eat the ice cream before it began to melt.
They asked many questions about each other yesterday, so Eddie tried to think of new things to talk about.
"You look beautiful"
She felt her cheeks warm as she read his handwriting, she wrote just below his message. He watched as she wrote,
"Thank you. You are pretty cute too"
"You have a little something on your cheek,"
She read the note and was confused. She looked up at Eddie and she felt a cold glob on her cheek.
She watched as Eddie's face morphed into a smile as he laughed behind his hand. She smiled and grabbed a chunk of her ice cream, she watched as Eddie's smile dropped.
"No no, I'm sorry!" he said as she read his lips. He got up to run but she was fast behind him. He didn't make it far before she jumped on his back, his arms catching her legs as she smeared her ice cream right on his nose.
He let her down as he laughed, then she joined in.
"Uncool," he teased once he faced her. She just smiled and shrugged.
He smiled as he leaned in, his hand on her cheek as he wiped off the ice cream with his thumb.
Her breathing got faster as he looked into her eyes, his soft touch on her cheek made her heart race.
"Can I kiss you?"
He felt his stomach turn with nerves as he waited for her to read his lips. He got even more nervous when she blinked but didn't say anything.
He wanted to kiss her? She had never kissed anyone before and she wanted to tell him how nervous she was but she couldn't walk away.
She grabbed his hand and softly used her finger to write letters. He concentrated as he watched her fingers spell something out.
"N.E.R.V.O.U.S"
"Ner-nervous? You are nervous?" he asked, she watched his lips and then nodded. He cupped her jaw with his free hand, watching as she took a deep breath.
"Me too," he whispered, she read his lips and then saw his lips moving closer to her.
He leaned in and pressed his lips against hers. It took a few seconds for her to shake off the nerves and kiss him back. She wasn't sure where to put her hands so she softly placed them on his chest.
He tasted of chocolate chip ice cream. And his lips felt amazing against hers. The kiss got better as they grew both confident.
He pulled away with a beaming smile, the ice cream on his nose transferred to her face.
"Let's get cleaned up," he laughed, she nodded and followed behind. Butterflies in her stomach as she felt her lips.
~~~
After many more dates, they became an official couple. Eddie's friends made sure she was comfortable and talked slowly so she could read their lips. They didn't mind reading and writing to communicate. It was clear that there was a connection between her and Eddie.
Eddie adjusted and took a beginner class in sign language. He was proud to show what he learned after every class. Sometimes he taught her new words.
One thing Y/N hated was that she couldn't share music with Eddie. She learned that was a huge part of his life from the beginning, and it made her sad that she could never hear him sing or play.
That doesn't mean Eddie ever excluded her. He'd have her sit next to his guitar amp, hook it all up, and let her feel the music as it played through. He'll never forget how excited she was when she could feel the music against her hand.
And that's what she did at his shows. She sat front row and placed her hands on the speakers.
He did it all because he loved her...he just hasn't said it yet.

See Me Through You Series
Tumblr media
I've never been this scared before
Feelings I just can't ignore
Don't know if I should fight or fly
But I don't mind
Synopsis: Falling for someone else while you were still in a committed relationship was not supposed to be in the cards for you
Series Masterlist
A sigh left your mouth as you looked down at your phone and you rolled your eyes when you saw it was none other than your boyfriend Trevor. It had damn near fell off the table from the vibration and you watched it until it stopped ringing.
It had to be the tenth time that he called you today and it was the tenth time that you had ignored him. It seemed as if you and your boyfriend were arguing more than usual and it was honestly the last thing you wanted to deal with. There seemed to be a shift when you had gotten accepted to LSU and you applied there to be near him since he was a year older than you and you honestly had no clue what his problem was. He asked you specifically to do it and you were all for it. If you knew then how it would be, you probably would have applied elsewhere.
Any time you tried asking him about how he was feeling or if something was wrong since it seemed like there was, all you got was an attitude in return. He would pick fights for no reason, you would get upset and not talk to him while he went on to beg for your forgiveness when it was all said and done. The latest fight had been about how you wanted to stay in and have a study date instead of going out for date night when he knew that you had a test the next day that was a big percentage of your grade seeing as there weren't a lot of assignments to begin with for that particular class. Of course he told you no, and you left it at that.
Being your first semester, you had taken on a lot more than you could handle and you were now feeling the effects seeing as you were about a month and a half in. Last night you went to one of LSU's home football games because not only did Ja'Marr beg you to come, but Joe did also and was out until damn near four in the morning.
You could tell that he was getting more comfortable being a starter and they had been playing amazing. It was now Sunday night and you were trying to make up for lost time when your phone vibrated once again at your desk. Except, an instant smile came upon your face when you saw who it was and quickly answered.
“Joey…”
“Princess, why haven't I seen you yet? I thought you were coming tonight.” He asked you without giving a proper greeting. You could hear a bunch of commotion in the background and you simply assumed he was at another party.
Ever since the two of you met that first day in the gym, the nickname princess had stuck.
“Uh? Coming where? I was literally out with you, Ja'Marr and Justin until FOUR in the morning. I was UNWELL. I couldn't even see anymore by the time I got home.” You expressed and all you heard was his laugh. In your head you imagined that he was probably shaking his head too.
“Couldn't see anymore? Really? Now that's dramatic, even for you.”
“Excuse me!? Look, all I know is my eyes were red and my contacts were dry as hell and the THREE OF YOU kidnapped me.”
“Well I'm about to kidnap you again. At least for a few hours.”
“I have another EXAM to study for, sir. You got to have me all last night.” You told him as you had taken out your highlighters from your pencil case and set them on your desk.
“And? I want to have you all night again. But I promise not to have you out that late.” Joe told you and you felt butterflies in your stomach.
At this rate, Joe spent more time with you than your actual boyfriend and actually wanted you to be around him. He was always down to have a study session with you unlike Trevor.
“Hmm, what time did you plan on having me out until?”
“Three give or take.”
“JOEY that is literally only a one hour difference!” You exclaimed as you shook your head in disbelief.
“You don't take your exam until later in the week! I've helped you study and you're going to be fine. Come on, I want to see you. I forgot what you looked like and I need a reminder to be in person.”
“You are such a hot ass mess and you have been around my brother too long because that sounds like exactly something he would say. Take a picture next time.”
“I could take one tonight if you let me see that pretty face of yours.”
With a deep sigh and a groan escaping your lips, you finally gave in.
“I'm ignoring that last part.”
“Why? I called you pretty and it's a compliment.” Joe asked, suddenly confused.
“And I'm not single, which you already knew.”
“Hmm, at least not yet. But I'll patiently wait my turn.”
You were glad that it wasn't a facetime call because your jaw had literally dropped and it took you a second to close your mouth.
It was quiet for a few seconds and Joe had to make sure that you didn't hang up.
“Princess, you still there?” Joe asked and the music in the background distracted you for a second.
“Just text me the address.”
“Can't wait to see you, gorgeous. Text me when you're outside.”
As soon as you hung up, Joe sent you the address and then you went to ransack your closet to find something to wear. Looking through your closet, not only was your mind racing, but your heart was too.
Joe had a crush on you, that much was obvious but the last thing you wanted to happen was for it to suddenly be awkward between the two of you. Why did you suddenly get butterflies when he's around, but when it comes to Trevor you felt absolutely nothing? You were nervous that it would get to the point that you would make an absolute fool out of yourself in front of him. But at the same, why should you care? You had a boyfriend.
The more you kept thinking about it, the more you were probably going to hurt your brain so you put your focus solely on searching for an outfit. In the back of your closet, you found a short black dress staring back at you. It was already known that you had the perfect shoes to go with it, so the answer that you came to was yes almost immediately.
After taking a quick shower and straightening your hair, the dress was slipped on along with the shoes. You did a once over in your floor length mirror that you had gotten from IKEA and nodded to your reflection in approval. Looking at your phone, you saw that it was close to ten at night and the goal was to get there as soon as possible in order to be able to get back as soon as possible.
The drive was a short one and once you pulled up, you saw multiple people hanging out outside including someone who was shitfaced on the front lawn of whoever's house it was. Shaking your head to yourself, you quickly pulled out your phone and sent a text to Joe in order to let him know that you were here.
Less than three minutes later, you saw him come out of the front door and take the steps two at a time to make his way to your car. Getting out, you closed your door and made sure to lock it before turning to face him as he had come up to you from behind.
“Hey, I'm here just like I promised. Since you know that you forgot what I looked like and wanted to see me in person.” You told him while rolling your eyes he smirked.
“Nothing changed from last time. Still as gorgeous as I remember.” He responded as the two of you started walking towards the front door.
“You literally just saw me last night and I don't have any idea what I'm going to do with you.”
“I could think of a few things I want to do with you. Just let me know when you're ready to find out.” He whispered and you simply shook your head.
Once the two of you crossed the threshold, his hand was on the small of your back as he guided you through the swarm of bodies and soon made your way to the kitchen where Justin and Ja'Marr were in the middle of an intense game of beer pong.
“About time you showed up, big sis. Tell the little bro that he is about to get his ass kicked.” Justin told you as it was Ja'Marr’s turn who looked at Justin to suck his teeth.
“I am not! How is that possible when I’m definitely winning right now?!” Ja’Marr asked as rolled his eyes.
“I just don’t see how the three of you have so much energy.” You said as you looked at all three of them.
“Yesterday we were pregaming.”
“Justin?! Pregaming?!?! We were out for hours!” You exclaimed as he looked at you and shrugged.
“You made it back home in one piece, didn’t you?”
“Of course she did because Joe wouldn’t let her out of his sight.” Justin quietly said but you could see Joe turn a slight shade of red while Ja’Marr smiled.
Since Joe and Ja’Marr had grown closer in the almost three months that he had been down here, Ja’Marr knew for a fact that Joe liked you and had been infatuated with you ever since he introduced the two of you to one another. He had his suspicions that you liked him back, but he wasn't so sure.
He would try to do everything that he possibly could to get you away from Trevor.
Joe had walked away from the three of you for a minute and when he returned he handed you a red solo cup. Before holding it up to your lips, you looked inside of it to inspect what it was. You could count on one hand the times that you had gotten drunk and rode it out at Erin’s house with her older sister giving you both IV fluids to help recover.
“What’s this?” You asked as you smelled it. It wasn’t a strong scent that would knock you off your feet and it gave you the vibe of it possibly being fruity.
“Your drink that I got you.” Joe said as he took a sip of whatever was in his cup.
“I was always told not to accept drinks from strangers or accept a drink that I didn’t go and get myself.” You told him as you looked back up at him.
“Well, it’s a good thing that I’m not a stranger right? And you honestly think that anyone would be stupid enough to try something with your brother standing right there?” He asked you as you gave him a look of approval.
“I guess you’re right, now what is it?”
“Just taste it, but if it will make you feel better, you can taste mine first. I promise that it’s the exact same thing.”
Without a second thought, you grabbed Joe’s cup and took a small sip. Just as you suspected, it was fruity and had a light taste that wasn’t overwhelming.
Seeing that you approved, he handed your cup to you and as you took another small sip, as promised it was the exact same thing.
“Good choice, Burrow.”
“I figured that you would like it and didn’t want any of the harder options that they have over there.”
“Y/N, you playing?” Justin asked and you gave him a small smile.
“Sure, but only if Joe plays against me.” You answered as you poked Joe’s side making him smirk.
“And here her competitive ass goes. We about to be over here for the rest of the night.” Ja’Marr muttered as he got some chips out of a large bowl and threw them into his mouth.
“I can take her, let’s get to it princess.”
“Famous last words, Burrow.”
After many rounds of beer pong later and mingling with other people, you were making your rounds with a few familiar faces in the living room, when you had suddenly spotted no one other than your boyfriend who looked to be drunk off his ass coming through the front door and sighed.
“Shit.” You quietly said and tried to look for an exit, but came up short. Before you could even make your way into the kitchen, he had spotted you and was moving towards the direction that you were in.
“So, you can’t answer my calls, but come to a party instead?” He asked as he towered over you.
“You pissed me off and I didn’t want to talk to you, simple. So yes, I can dodge your calls whenever I fucking feel like it and come to a party instead. Move out of my way because I still don’t want to talk to you.” You replied and attempted to move around him, but instead he caught your arm and pulled you back.
“I’m not finished fucking talking to you and the last thing you’re about to do is walk away from me.”
“I can and I will and you need to get your fucking hands off me before I get my brother who will beat your ass. I still don’t want to talk to you so move along. You’re clearly drunk and we will have this conversation when you’re sober.”
One thing that you were not going to do was let him intimidate you. You might be small, but you still stood your ground and let him know that you would be tolerating any form of disrespect coming from him or anyone else.
“Who the hell are you talking to like that?” He asked as his grip on your wrist tightened at the same time you were trying to get away from him.
You were trying to look around for Ja’Marr, Justin, or Joe but was coming up short until you heard Joe’s voice from behind Trevor.
“Is there a problem over here? Y/N, you okay?” He asked as he stood on the side of both of you and looked Trevor up and down.
“We’re fine, mind your own damn business. This is between me and my girlfriend.”
“I believe that I was talking to her and not to you. I don’t give a damn if you’re her boyfriend or not. What you aren’t going to do is disrespect her in front of me. You can first start by getting your hand off of her damn wrist because you’re hurting her and it’s turning red.”
“Who the fuck is this guy? Y/N, you fucking him instead of me?” He asked the first question to no one in particular, but the second one was obviously directed at you.
“Trevor, quit it. Just leave. I already said that I wasn’t going to talk to you.”
“Nah, because he thinks he can come over here and get in my business when it has nothing to do with him.” He told you as he turned to keep his eyes on Joe.
Suddenly the room had gone quiet and all eyes were on the three of you as he began to raise his voice.
“Just leave and we’ll talk later.” You told him as you wanted for this night to be over since your mood was now ruined.
You knew that you should have stayed home.
“Not until pretty boy hear learns a fucking lesson.”
Next thing you knew, Trevor shoved Joe who barely moved one inch and you went to stand in between them.
You saw Joe’s jaw clench and knew for a fact that this was going to end badly unless you did something and did something now.
“Joey, no. And Trevor do not fucking put your hands on him.”
“So, you’re defending him instead of me?”
“Yes, because you are being a straight up asshole. Why the hell are you pushing people?”
The next thing you knew it seemed like everything was happening in slow motion, Trevor raised his fist and got ready to punch Joe who dodged it, but Joe made sure to push you out of the way first so that you didn’t get hit. Ja’Marr and Justin came running over to where all of you were standing and caught Joe’s fist as it was about to connect to Trevor’s jaw.
“Joe, chill. It’s not worth it as much as I want to let you go and beat his ass.” Ja’Marr told him as he was holding Joe and Justin was holding back Trevor.
“Y/N, go and get in my car.” Trevor said and you looked at him like he was crazy.
“I think the fuck not. My sister is not going anywhere with you. What you can do is take your ass on out that front door before I let him go and all three of us are kicking your ass, your choice.” Ja’Marr told him as Joe was still struggling to get out of his grasp making him have to hold tighter.
Trevor then held his hands up in defense and began to slowly walk away towards the front door finally giving up on the thought that you were going to leave with him. Once he was finally out the door, Ja’Marr released his hold on Joe and turned to look at you.
“Pebbles, I wish you would fucking break up with him. Do you not see what the fuck he just did? What if we hadn’t been here, huh?! Do you know what could have happened?!” Ja’Marr started but Joe quickly intervened when he saw tears forming in your eyes.
“Not now man, important thing is that she’s okay. You are okay aren’t you? Let me see your wrist.”
You held out your right arm so Joe could look at it and there was a red indentation from where his hand had been.
“Come on, let’s get you some ice from the freezer.”
As you nodded your head, Joe guided you into the kitchen and you were caught off guard as he placed you onto the counter as he rummaged through the freezer and got a small ziploc bag to put the ice in. When he was finished, he walked back over to you and stood in between your legs as he placed the ice on your wrist which led to you letting a hiss escape from your lips.
“Seriously, princess. Are you okay?” Joe softly asked you and you nodded your head.
“I just… I’ve never seen him get like that before and I was scared. He has never put his hands on me or yelled at me like that.”
“I’m just glad we were all here with you.”
“Me too.” You quietly said as Joe brushed a piece of hair out of your face and smiled at you.
It was quiet for a few minutes as Joe tended to your wrist before he looked back up at you.
“You ready to leave? I can come with you.”
“Yeah, I think that it’s probably best at this point.”
Ja’Marr came into the kitchen and made his way over to you as he gave you a hug from the side since Joe was in front of you and kissed the top of your head.
“I yell because I love you and never want anything to happen to you. You’re the only twin I got.” He told you as he pinched your cheek which made you smile.
“I know, I love you too, Bam Bam.”
“I was going to take her home. I’ll text you when she’s safe.” Joe told him, with him nodding in approval.
“Sure thing.”
It had gotten a little colder outside and made sure to walk as fast as possible to your car since the heels you were wearing probably wouldn’t allow you to run. When you were about to get into the driver’s seat, Joe stopped you.
“Let me drive, I know your wrist is still hurting.”
Unlocking your car and not putting up a fight, you walked over to the passenger side and slid in as Joe held the door open for you.
The two of you were now driving through Baton Rouge, as your head laid against the glass and Joe noticed the small circles you were massaging onto your wrist.
“Make sure you take some motrin or something to help your wrist. You don’t have practice tomorrow do you?”
“No, but we have it on Tuesday and then a competition on Saturday. I just hope it’s okay by then.”
“It should be. Just keep stretching it and taking something for it. And more ice will help too.”
“I will. Actually can we make a stop really fast?” You asked and of course Joe nodded.
“Of course and besides, it’s your car that I’m driving.” He responded while laughing.
“Good point. Make a left at the next light and then a right.”
Joe followed directions and was now on a dimly lit street.
“Where are we going?”
“When I get sad, I eat ice cream or get a milkshake at this twenty four hour spot I discovered.”
“Not you holding out on me.” Joe teased as you shook your head.
“I would have taken you eventually. But when I’m around you I’m always happy so there was no need for it.” You quietly said as Joe tried to hide the smile that was forming on his face.
“And that’s how it will always be when I’m around you.”
A few minutes later, Joe saw the sign for the ice cream shop that you had pointed out and quickly parallel parked on the street before the two of you got out to head inside. Joe once again opened the door for you and helped you up the steps to the entrance.
Looking at you now scanning the menu, Joe couldn’t help himself but to take in your appearance for the night. The black dress you were wearing was hugging your curves just right and the shoes you had on was a perfect compliment to it. He was pulled from his thoughts as he heard you call his name.
“Joey, what are you getting?” You asked as you looked over at him.
“Hmm, I’m not sure. Did you decide what you wanted yet? I’ll pay, it’s my treat.”
“Probably an oreo milkshake and you don’t have to pay for it.” You told him as you shook your head.
“Then lets make that two and I’m going to because I said so.”
You knew you smiling at him was more than enough to thank him as he placed both of your orders and paid. The two of you stood to the side and Joe noticed that you were hugging yourself and assumed that you were cold.
Without even asking you, he took off his hoodie and told you to hold your arms up.
“But I don’t want you to be cold.”
“You need it more than I do, arms up.”
You finally gave in and held your arms up as he quickly pulled it over your head and took out your hair from the back and pulled it down in the front.
“Better?”
“Better.”
When Joe had turned away from you to get both of your milkshakes, you took in the scent of his hoodie and it happened to be one of your favorite scents that he would wear. You put it in the back of your mind that you were not giving him this hoodie back any time soon.
He handed you your drink and he walked in front of you in order to be able to open the door and help you down the steps. As the two of you got settled in your car and he started to drive when he broke the silence.
“Y/N…”
“Hmm?” You asked as you were sipping on your milkshake.
“I’m saying this as someone who cares about you so please don’t take any of this the wrong way.”
“I know what you’re about to say, just like everyone else. I need to break up with him.”
“Then why don’t you do it? I mean I’m to the point where I wouldn’t want you to be alone with him because of what I saw tonight.”
“In some weird twisted way I do love him and he means well. He was not like that when we first got together and I honestly think that he’s going through something and he either doesn’t want to tell me or…”
“Y/N, stop making excuses for him. Even if he is going through something he has no reason to act like that towards you, drunk or not. What would have happened if the two of you were by yourselves?”
“I….”
“I just want to be sure you’re safe. At the end of the day, I’m not telling you what to do because you’re an adult but…. Take it how you want it.” Joe said, being completely honest as he turned into your apartment complex parking lot.
When you were quiet, he spoke up again.
“I would want nothing more for someone else to be able to show you how you should be treated.”
“Joey…”
“Y/N, I know you like me, and I like you. I’ve made that obvious time and time again. You literally spend more time with me than your actual boyfriend, and you even just told me yourself less than thirty minutes ago how happy you always are around me. Why don’t you just let me in? What are you afraid of?”

your lips, my lips. apocalypse.
henry bowers x fem!reader
Tumblr media
summary: henry had another argument with his father, now he seeks comfort in his girlfriends arms
༺☆༻
as you stepped out of the bathroom, clothed into your pyjamas which was only pink panties and henry's t-shirt he once gave you, ready to lay down to your bed and get some rest; as soon as you opened the door to your dark room, you felt light breeze of a fresh air hit your bare legs.
that was unexpected. you thought you had your windows closed, so you hit the light and saw henry, your boyfriend, sitting on your bed while looking down on his lap. he had few cuts on his face and ugly bruise under his right eye.
his father. you thought. it was obvious, he had another fight with his father and by that bruise you assumed it was bad.
"hold on." you said as you turned on your heel and went back to the bathroom for first aid kid.
henry didn't say anything. he wasn't a big talker so he didn't tell you much about fights with his father, but he's always safe with you and he knows it. that's why he's here so late at night.
you were back in a minute, but you locked the door this time. it was unnecessary? maybe. but it made henry feel more comfortable.
you squated in front of him with a with a piece of cotton wool and disinfectant. "it will sting a little." you warned calmy with a slight frown on your face.
but henry didn't moved a muscled, his gaze just moved from his lap to your eyes. after few seconds of staring into each others eyes, you slightly tapped on his cuts with that cotton wool.
his eyebrows twitched two times but then he got used to it. "can i stay the night?" he asked.
you slightly smiled at him as you were done with cleaning his wounds. you stood up, cupped his face into your palms and kissed his lips. he didn't waist a second and kissed you back with passion. few more seconds and you broke the kiss to answer him. "of course."
henry's hands then snaked around your waist while he slowly leaned down on the bed, taking you with him. as you two made yourself comfortable in bed, his grip around your waist got tighter. so you can breath but cannot escape or be taken away. he protects you from others just like you protected him from his father.
after extra few seconds, you broke the silence "you wanna talk about it?"
"not really" he answered almost immediately.
you expected this answer but it was fine. at least he was safe now and you were willing to give him all the time he needed before he confide to you.
"but i don't wanna think about it when i'm with you. when i'm with you i think only about you." he continued.
that caught you off guard. don't get me wrong, henry was a loving boyfriend. he showed you that he loved you, he did not tell you tho because he's not good with his words.
it was rare that he used his words but every time he did, it melted your heart. even tho he wasn't good with words, he always said the right thing.
"tell me how was your day, doll." he finished with a slight smile.
oh how you loved when he smiled, because this smile was special. this was sincere smile that was only meant for you.
so you started yapping about your day. how you had your morning tea, after that a pilates class. also how you went with your friend into the mall where you bought new lipgloss.
henry on the other hand watched your lips moved and your face features that changed every second when you change the theme. he listened to every word you said and felt every move you took when you ran your fingers through his hair. but it was too much on him.
he was already tired and your soothing voice with those nails stroking through his hair just lulled him to sleep.
you were talking for five more minutes when you noticed his calm breaths and closed eyes. but his grip around your waist didn't loosen.
you smiled. he was so handsome when he was relaxed. you gently kissed his forehead before closing your eyes as well. slowly drifting to sleep with him.

HII I love the way you write sm !! is it okay if you write anything with nagi ??
thank you!! i'm assuming this is for my 200 followers event bc i have written a few scenarios for nagi. this was prob the most fun i've had writing him, so i hope you enjoy!
they say love is a game, and for nagi, that can't be more true.
nagi first gets to know you when you sit next to him in class, and through your constant pestering for him to listen to the teacher and take notes, he realises he can't ignore you. at some point, you stop prodding his side as much and instead slip notes to him with little jokes on them, which he much prefers. he starts to stay awake more in class, awaiting your next slip of paper, and it's only when reo muses about how attentive nagi has been in class recently that nagi realises you've already got him right in the palm of your hand.
nagi takes his time to get to know your interests, your quirks, your ticking points. he completes the tutorial patiently, and commits every detail to memory. he helps you with your bags and other heavy things, gives you jellies when you seem sleepy or down, and walks you to the bus stop after school although he stays on campus. beyond these side quests, he makes sure to complete the special events too. he takes you out for a meal on your birthday and gives you a little cactus that matches his own, and on white day, he taps hershey's kisses on your cheek, nose, hand, and finally, lips, before giving them to you.
with enough experience points, nagi tries new combo moves. when he walks into class in the mornings, he greets you with a hand on your head that glides down the length of your hair to land on your shoulder. when you eat dinner with him on wednesday evenings, he leans close to you, steals something from your chopsticks, and gets you to wipe his lips. when you're in the stands to watch his matches, he looks at you every time he scores, smiles, and hugs you at the end even if you complain about his sweat.
games are only fun if nagi wins, which is why he takes his time to level up and prepare himself for his first boss fight. he runs mental simulations, practises the steps, and even prepares a flower buff. he waits for the perfect time to strike, and when he finally feels ready, he confesses.

5K EVENT SPECIAL | EVENT MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
"Seriously? None of you have one? Not even you, Denki?"
Kaminari inspects your phone from all angles, humming. He eyes your charging port distrustfully. "No? What even is this?"
You bury your knuckle on his head. "Dipshit. It's a phone. A phone that's about to die because you fried my charger trying to blow your hair this morning."
Kaminari winces. "Oohh..."
"Hey." Ashido claps a hand on your shoulder, sympathetic. "I'm sorry, but that idiot's right, ya'know? This model is outdated."
Bakugou is about to walk past when he plucks the phone from your grasp and then studies it intently. His eyes narrow.
You beam up at him, hopeful. "Do you have one, Bakugou?"
He throws it back at you, and you fumble to catch it. "Nah. Deku's got the same one, though. The nerd will let you borrow one."
And then he leaves, just like that. You're not sure if you should yell at him for risking your phone or kiss him on the cheek for presenting a ray of hope that came in the form of Midoriya Izuku.
Ashido's eyes turn sly. "Oh? Midoriya, huh? Looks like you'll have to..."
You slap a hand over her mouth. Kaminari perks up, his expression a visible representation of his brain lagging behind.
"Hafta what?" he asks in a whisper.
"Nothing!" you squeak out before Ashido could say anything. "Nothing at all. Mina, you're acting weird. I'm just gonna borrow a charger from my classmate. What's so strange about that? Nothing at all."
Ashido giggles. "Right, right. Make sure you don't stay longer than three minutes, or else I'll just assume you're stealing a ki—"
"God! Seriously. My phone's about to die! I should go now. Bye, Denki. I hate you, Mina."
You pad away, phone clutched in a death grip as Ashido's laughter echoes in the hallway. Of course. Of course, Midoriya would be the only one in the class with the same charger as you because that makes sense. Your long-term crush would be the only person, obviously. Right. Duh.
You have a suspicion that Bakugou is aware of this crush of yours, and Midoriya isn't the only one who has the same type of charger, but you'd rather take Midoriya than--god forbid--Mineta. Bakugou can play Cupid if he wants.
You knock softly. "Midoriya?"
Once, twice, and the door swings open right away halfway through the third one. You and Midoriya stare at each other for a startled moment. Midoriya gapes, mouth dropping open almost comically.
"Y/N!" he exclaims.
"Hi," you mutter. "Sorry, did I disturb you?"
Midoriya glances back at his room. You follow his gaze, falling on his desk with a single lamp lighting the room, directed at notebooks and pens spread about. He must've been studying.
Midoriya turns back to you with a soft smile. "No, don't worry. Did you need something?"
"Oh, yeah." You show him your phone, wishing to every deity out there that he doesn't notice how your hands are trembling. "Denki fried my charger, and my phone's about to die. Do you have one for this model?"
Midoriya's fingers brush your skin as he takes your phone to inspect it himself. You thank All Might and his mother that Midoriya's too busy with your phone to notice that you're steaming, positively overwhelmed by this proximity. You've never been close to Midoriya like this before. He smells like freshly pulled laundry, his warmth emanating even at this distance. You find yourself gravitating, inching slightly closer.
Midoriya looks back up again. Your noses nearly touch. You both jump back.
"Sorry!" you both cry out.
"Um." Midoriya's face is beet red. "I do have the same model."
You knew that, obviously. You move to reach for your phone, eager to leave before you do anything else stupid and embarrass yourself further. "Thanks a lot, Midoriya. You're heaven-sent."
But Midoriya rears back. "Would you like to come inside?"
...What?
Midoriya wilts. "I—I mean, unless you want to charge in your own room, I was just— Well, that makes more sense, actually. Nevermind. Forget I—"
You brush past Midoriya, saying, "Sorry for the intrusion!"
As your eyes take in the alarming cluster of All Might merchandise, you belatedly register the door clicking shut behind you. Midoriya bounds over to his bed, pulling out his charger. He makes a show of plugging it into your phone and displaying how your phone brightens.
"Thank you, Midoriya." You sigh and cradle your now-charging phone in your arms, like handling a wounded child. "I might have to go out later to buy a new one so I don't bother you again."
Midoriya laughs, settling back on his chair, but he faces you. "I don't mind, really. You can visit here anytime."
You don't see why you must 'visit anytime' when you can bring his charger to your room, but you wouldn't want to overstep when he's already lending you his things. And there's really no downside to it aside from your impending doom of humiliation; you wouldn't take down the offer of rooming alone with your crush. Not when he smells so nice, and he’s giving his undivided attention to you.
"So..." You set your phone aside. "Is that Preset Mic's seatwork?"
Midoriya glances over his shoulder, smiling sheepishly. "Yeah. I wanted to finish everything today."
"Do you mind teaching me?" you blurt out.
Midoriya blinks owlishly.
"I-If you want, I mean! I'll pay you back or something—"
Midoriya slides his chair closer to where you're sitting, beaming. "Sure. While your phone charges."
"Yeah," you say faintly. "Yeah. While my phone charges."
You stumble into Bakugou on your way out of Midoriya’s room, giddy and floaty, like Uraraka’s touched you with all ten fingers and left you to rot in space. You muffle a squeal as soon as the door’s shut. Bakugou arches a suspicious brow, looking at you up and down like you’ve done something particularly scandalous.
“What?” you ask defensively.
Bakugou huffs, smirking. “You took your sweet time there.”
“He offered for me to stay while I waited for my phone to charge.” And then you stick your tongue out for good measure.
“As if. Deku uses a faster charger. Your phone should’ve been done five hours ago, dumbass.”

Hotel AU
Jason groaned, holding a military grade field dressing to his wound as he tried his best to walk faster. Gunshots rang behind him and instinct allowed him to dodge, but one bullet still managed to graze him by the shoulder. It only made pain flare up worse, but Jason just sucked in a breath through his teeth and toiled onward to get to safety.
His comms buzzed in his ear, but no one was available at the moment. Jason still muttered a soft, "Requiring backup."
No one answered.
Jason, for an existential crisis-having moment, wondered if he was gonna die again.
Just as he thought this, a hand grabbed him by the arm and pulled him into another building.
Jason cursed and pulled out his gun with his unfortunately injured hand and pointed it towards his assailant, but then paused.
He had been pulled into a beautiful, first class looking hotel area.
"What the..." he started, before he turned.
An enormously tall woman smiled down at him. She was outrageously beautiful, with long red hair tied into a ponytail and a neat uniform covered by an apron. "Welcome, sir, to the Phantom Hotel! You seem to be in need of some assistance, would you like some help?"
Jason felt eerily calm and level headed, even as he bled all over the floors. "... that'd be nice." He said gruffly.
"Right away, sir." She said with a smile. She waved to someone over to his side and continued to speak. "I'm the co-owner of this hotel, you may call me Jazz. May I get your name for registration?"
Jason still didn't freak out yet. "Registration?" He echoed, as he took in his surroundings.
The hotel was beautiful, with tall ceilings, marble floors, white walls and candle chandeliers that glowed with dim lighting. People that didn't look like Gothamites milled around the lobby and sitting area, all relaxed and chatting amicably. There were a few that were dancing to club music. There was a noticeable bar in the corner of the room that looked unstaffed but was conspicuous in its size and black coloring.
"Yes, sir." Jazz said. "I assume that you're staying the night? We offer breakfast in the morning, and drinks are free all night!"
Jason was silent for a moment. A person wearing a similar uniform to Jazz, with a dark green vest and dark colored apron, approached them and immediately got to bandaging Jason's wounds.
Once again, Jason did not freak. He felt oddly calm, and in the back of his head, he knew that he was safe here. His gut instinct was to collapse on top of Jazz and take a nap, strangely comforted by her presence.
"... why am I so calm?"
Fuck it. He decided to just voice his question.
Jazz giggled. It was a cute noise. "Why wouldn’t you be? There’s nothing to worry about. We're the same, after all!"
Jason blinked. Then he turned to her as the attendant stepped away with the medical box, Jason feeling all healed up, and he said, "Is a night here free?"
"For you? Yep! Everything is free here."
Jason gave a nod. "Then I'll take a room with a single bed, please. Breakfast is free?"
"Yes, sir."
"Great. The name's Jason Todd."
Jazz smiled, a sparkle in her eyes that made Jason feel all fuzzy with warmth. "Very good, sir. Your room number is 312, on the third floor. Here's your room card." She handed over a plastic card that was procured out of thin air but Jason didn't think about it.
He was mentally exhausted and being in her presence made him feel like he was going to drop and fall asleep on the floor and still wake up refreshed. It was so disconcerting that it was almost not disconcerting.
Jason eventually found the elevator, though not without lingering a little around the area. The vigilante in him was telling him to be careful, even though everything else inside of him couldn't give less of a damn and was telling him to kick back and relax. Jazz, after registering him, had gone to the bar to prepare drinks.
She mixed together alcoholic concoctions amidst a small crowd and the more Jason stared, the more it seemed like the dim light was hiding something. People looked like they were wearing ragged clothes and a lot of them had dark stains. There were quite a large amount of old people as well, along with people with seemingly missing appendages.
The last two details wasn't a bad thing, but the amount of them seemed like a hint to something bigger.
When Jazz made eye contact with Jason, she gave a sweet smile and a little wave, and that was Jason's signal to leave.
He got into an elevator, went to his room, and practically sank into the cloud-like bed before he basically knocked himself out. That night, he had never slept so well.
When he woke up, his body felt rejuvenated and he almost felt peppy. It was as if his previous irritations were only bad days and he had finally struck on a good day for once.
He washed up, miraculously found his wounds all healed up, and when he went to take a shower, his clothes were found on the sink, all washed and patched up. Even his helmet had been cleaned and fixed, pristine like the day he had first gotten it.
Jason could've been more suspicious.
But to reiterate, he couldn't.
Everything about this place was like a mother's hug. It was comforting. It made him feel safe. He felt like there was nothing to worry about and although a small part of him found this alarming, he really couldn't explain why he decided to trust it.
When he came down the elevator for breakfast, he was astonished.
Last night, the hotel had looked elegant and high class. Now, in the morning, everything looked warm and homey.
The various large rectangle tables had turned into small round tables that were densely packed together. The floor was a cool blue carpet and the walls had turned a shade of cream. The ceiling had shrank, but now flowers and vines grew from it, dropping from the ceiling with bright blossoms. The bar had been replaced with a little coffee area, with a young man behind the counter, currently taking orders.
The people sitting around and eating their breakfasts looked different in morning light. They glowed with faint shades of blue and green.
Jason paused to take in the sight, considering this information before he shook it off and approached the counter.
The man, after noticing him, immediately went to the cash register with a large smile on his face. "Hello!" He said cheerfully.
Jason immediately noted the similarities between him and Jazz. They had the same heart shaped face, the same ethereal beauty to them, the same nose and smile. This man, however, had bright blue eyes and dark black hair that swept over his eyes.
"What are you drugging me with? I'm way too comfortable here." Jason blurted out.
The man paused. And then he burst out laughing. Jason couldn't help the few snickers that fell out of his throat too, but they both quickly calmed down and the man explained softly, "We're not drugging you. You're just comfortable here because it's where you belong. Don't stress too much."
He continued to smile reassuringly. "Call me Danny. I'm the owner. What would you like to order?"
Jason's eyes flicked to the menu and then he said, "A California club croissant and a caramel latte, please."
"Coming right up, big guy!"
Jason moved a little bit away to the side so that other people could order.
He couldn't help but contemplate what was going on, but it was a little hard to think being this close to Danny's presence. The urge to fight against his soothed mind and the urge to just relax were warring, but unfortunately, his latter side was winning.
If Jazz had seemed comforting and like a hug, then Danny was the blanket, fireplace, hot chocolate cup and book on a cool rainy evening. It was like Danny was his missing piece that just sucked out all of the fear, misery, and rage inside of him.
It was almost crazy how Jason didn't want to retaliate against them at all.
"Here you go, Jason." A voice interrupted him and Jason looked up into crystalline eyes before something was pushed into his hands.
Jason looked down at his order and then up again. "Thanks."
Danny smiled. "No problem! You're pretty freaked out, huh?"
Jason shrugged. Then he thought about it and he asked, "Can I leave?"
"Of course you can." Danny said. "Come back anytime. For someone like you, you have the opportunity to come by anytime you want."
Jason nodded wordlessly and then, with his order in hand, he started walking to the door.
For one last time, he turned and met Danny's eyes. Danny smiled cheerfully, his eyes squinted in happiness. He gave a big wave and Jason returned it before he put on his helmet and pushed past the doors into the open air of Gotham's polluted and smoky world.
The rose glasses fell off and the pink sparkles faded away with each blink.
Jason stared dumbfounded at his own state of body and mind, as his siblings and family all screamed into his ear frantically, begging to know where he went and how he was.
Jason could only stare at the gray, listless world around him and wonder if he had imagined everything.
"What the fuck?"
