Chasm Delving Highlight Reel: Special Just Leave a Comment Edition

At this point I should be real and say that I almost always leave comments. It's just a matter of having the energy but, as any of the authors I follow could tell you, I'm actually your weirdly joyful recurring commenter. I'll leave you sincere emoji hearts and "Thank you for writing!" and several "I love this so muuuuch!" or comments about how you made me cry (it's true, y'all make me cry and laugh and yelp.)

No regrets at all, though the comment bot stuff had me rethink my approach to sound a little more like I was actually reading.

I say this so you'll understand that while I didn't rack up numbers on the comment fest, that was because I've commented on most of the fics that are in my bookmarks. I needed new stuff and there was not enough time on the week to read everything I wanted.

General numbers are: 12 comments on 10 fics (one was updating daily and yes I did the thing.)

But I read a bit and found some good stuff! Which led me to the thought "why not make those into recs as well?" After all, it's been a while.

The dialogue is fire and Lumine is a marvelous goblin. Also Venti does a sneaky thing, which is something I always approve.

A new chapter of Paper, Glass, Steel, and Bone [or, The Tensile Strength of Tenacity] by kawree dropped on the 12th and of course I had to read it and comment.

I keep telling everyone to read this fic with mixed results (the rarepair experience after all), but if you want a big cup of Kaeya to go with his cameo in the current event, this fic is what you're looking for.

There's so much lovely banter! The first chapter is a charmer, but I really love that "dinner with the old timers" scene later on (also the hair-brushing one, but all kinds of qpr things make me go weak on the knees) (the thing about the dinner scene is that it's got good dialogue, emotional cues and *throws glitter* drama) and the dialogue in this latest chapter. Ugh, feelings.

The 12th was for AUs so I get to rec the infuriating smart people AU Chiluc fic! Yay!

I also managed to read one of those fics that had been lingering on my Read Later.

This is an Actor AU Childe/Zhongli thing that is kinda of a fusion with a webnovel that I haven't actually read. It's very funny and was a great thing to read while a cyclone raged outside (we get Weather over here in the bog) (I swear everything's fine.)

When I say this is crack you have to believe me. This fic is about a man that is so fucking oblivious he thinks shipping himself with someone else has nothing to do with real feelings. And let's not talk about Zhongli. 100% proof crack. Fun to read though.

The 13th was for rarepairs, which is a conceptual issue for me in this fandom.

There are two kinds of ships in Genshin: the ones with a whole bunch of fics of all kinds and the ones with 20 smut fics to their name. I'm not very much into smut :/ So I'd like you all to pretend Chiscara is a rarepair. Okay? Okay.

And, also, very importantly, about IMMORTALS IN LOVE. Big bold letters because that's my absolute favorite romance trope (yes, I'm the audience for all those xianxia dramas about reincarnation and eternal pining.)

This fic is tagged as relationship study, but it's more like a character study of both of them, together and alone. The author here does this spectacular thing, managing to write an one-shot that reads like 50 chapters of slow burn.

The relationship develops in this slow, gentle way and the prose is absolutely beautiful. Seriously, this story is constructed like well-made lace in cobweb weight yarn.

(Additionally, if you are into reading people's thoughts about their writing, the author has a whole site with a bunch of commentary linked at the end notes. A real treat if you are also the sort of person that would be suffering in Haravatat.)

How to Write ALL CAPS (Sam/Steve/Bucky) Fanfic According to Stuckies

Disclaimer: This is obviously not all Stucky fans. I follow a few Stucky fans on my main account that I have no problem with because they know how to treat Sam Wilson and other characters of color (specifically black characters) . It's mainly our palm colored counterparts, and even some writers who aren't black but are poc, who still seem to struggle in this regard. If this doesn't apply to you, don't be Captain Save-A-Hoe in the comments. If it does...well...a hit dog gon' holler. Bitch, do better.🤷🏾‍♀️

Stucky (about each other): We have been destined by the cosmos to be soulmates even when we were still in our dads ballsacks. We knew we were in love 5 months after we were born because it's just that strong. When we had nothing, we had each other even though Bucky was trying to fuck his way through Brooklyn and catch every possible disease, including but not limited to: polio, the black plague, and the clap. When we went off to war, that bitch Peggy took advantage of Steve and Bucky was just a woobie who needed him. Now that we're together again, no one can tear us apart again and Steve will even threaten people who are understandably weary of Bucky. Sooooo romantic!

Stucky (about Sam): Who??? Oh, hiiiim. Yeah, he's cool we guess. He's a trained therapist* who can treat us like his patients! And he's sooooo much bigger than us** and since our authors can't figure out which of us to make the twink, he can be our big black mandingo who treats us rough, with no respect. And after that, he can do whatever else it is he does but only after he's done cooking, cleaning, and making sure we're okay. And he can do that because he NEVER has bad days and he definitely doesn't have any trauma even though he served two tours in a pointless war and watched his best friend get hit by an RPG.*** But he still doesn't have it as bad as we do and we should be taken care of before all else!

Sam (about Stucky): They are so beautiful and precious. Their hair, golden wisps of sunshine and thick brown locks, is a thing worthy to be praised. Their lips are thick and full and as red as a cherry. They have the best asses that are perfectly round and big.**** I don't deserve them because I am a lesser man. But they want me to be their big black mandingo and nobody could refuse that offer. I will treat them like the delicate flower petals they are. They are way out of my league. 1. Of the fics you’ve written, which are you most proud of?

I've written so many fics in my career as a fanfic writer that it's hard to pinpoint which are my favorite. I'd say some of my most recent stuff, like my Top Gun fics, especially my stuff for Bob and Hangman. My writing has improved so much in the past two years that I'm tempted to go back and edit/rewrite my old stuff.

4. What are some themes you love writing about?

It actually differs between my fanfiction and original work. My fanfic is usually focused on romance and the relationship between the characters, while my original work is much more story-oriented.

Regardless, I like to write bittersweet stories. I love to write strong female friendships, found family, and queer stories. I like open and ambiguous endings. In my original work, I like to write coming-of-age or coming-into-your-own stories, while my fics usually feature people who are well-established or in a transitional phase of their lives.

8. Is there a character you love writing for the most? The least? Why?

Let's go with the Top Gun guys because I'm on my Top Gun bullshit. When I first started writing for this fandom, I thought I would write mainly for Rooster, but I actually find him pretty hard to write for. I just don't think I'm able to capture his tone and way of being super well in any depth, so I moved away from writing for him.

I love writing for Bob and Hangman. Bob is a simple and straightforward character to write for, and he has a very distinct presence and personality and is an absolute sweetheart. How could you not love him? A similar principle applies to Hangman. Jake is an easy character to write for because his role is so clear in the movie, as are his mannerisms, cockiness, and confidence. That, and he's just fun to write.

@seasonsbloom - May is an incredible writer, and I'll read literally anything she writes. Bad Habit is my comfort fic, and her Bob two-parter had me screaming and crying.

@sunderlust - Sol is an amazing writer who knows how to tell a story and evoke a mood. I'll read anything she writes, too, but you left me no choice had me screaming in her inbox.

@sunlightmurdock - Trouble in Paradise is my favorite Rooster fic, and I check daily for updates. Katie's new Rhett Abbott fic Odds are Stacked is also great, and I'm super excited for part two.

@glodessa - Katie's my go-to person for Rhett Abbott filth. I've never seen the show and don't intend to, but it's Lewis Pullman as a cowboy, so I'll read whatever, and she's just a fantastic writer as well. The Church Girl Universe is hot as fuck.

@anna-phora - This list wouldn't be complete without my online bestie Anna, and I'm not just saying this because I'm biased, and I love her, but her gift of storytelling is insane. I beta-read her WIPs, and let me tell you, y'all are not ready. Fanboy content is coming!

The Chasm Delving Highlight Reel, part 1

I've been going through the Genshin Impact tag at AO3 chronologically (one week's worth of fics at a time) for the last few months.

My name for it is Chasm Delving, because going through search results feels a lot like diving down into the darkness and finding the odd treasure, by which I mean I love it (this person has willingly and lovingly got 100% in every single region of the game map, thank you very much).

After some hesitation over posting the fics I loved here, I ended up dropping a bunch of links to a kind stranger on reddit, so what the hell, y'all are getting links as well.

This got a bit long, so I'll put a cut here. Keep reading for the links!

First things first, understand my rules:

This is a completely personal project, the search is filtered according to my preferences. I'm ace. While I do not filter out explicit content from my searches, the only kind of smut I recommend is either amazingly written or very romantic, because I'm a romantic bitch.

At this time I'm only going over completed works and even then only what catches my eye. If you think I missed an obvious gem, do drop me a line, askbox is open.

You won't see crossovers or modern AUs here, unless they are very exceptional. I offer no real explanation, those are just genres that don't vibe with me. Same thing goes for omegaverse, but you could tell that from the "I don't really read smut" on the first bullet point.

I have no issues at all with any ships, but I have no interest in Aether as the Traveler, so don't expect him to show up.
