do you have any thoughts about pet regressing ghouls?

i do i do i do !!! most of my thoughts revolve around kitty ghouls (because @sphylor's kitty dew lives rent free in my mind every single day) but hopefully i'll be able to conjure up a few thoughts about some other ghouls as well !! 💚

rain is at the forefront of my mind at the moment because another lovely anon sent a request asking me to write something about otter rainy !! so little otter rainy with their emotional support rocks and shinies piles has been on my mind a lot recently :) they love going to down to the lake when they're otter, but the ghouls won't let them because yes, they're otter, but they're not very coordinated with their limbs. so instead, there's a little plastic kiddy pool near mountain's greenhouses and fish ponds for rain to swim about and explore in when they're otter !!

and i can't talk about petre ghouls without mentioning kitty dew, of course !! he's such a sleepy little kitten, always wearing himself out after a big day of doing not much. he's very content to spend the day curled up on someone's lap, purring and stretching awake every now and then, but he also loves rushing around and playing hunting games with anyone who'll indulge him in it. that being said, he can and will sit in front of cat tv for hours and be completely entranced by it. in my head, when he's kitty, dew loves spending time curled up in a corner of mountain's greenhouse, especially in winter. when the heat lamps for the plants are on, the dirt underneath the big monstera plant gets so toasty, so dew loves spending the day hidden away behind the leaves in the warmth, purring while he listens to mountain pot plants and hum tunes to himself. (like i said before, @sphylor is a wealth of headcanons on all things kitty dew, so please please please go check out his incredible headcanons and fics about everyone's favourite little kitty !!)

aeon is a bit of a wild card in my mind. sometimes he's kitty, sometimes he's puppy and there's not really any way of predicting which way he's going to swing. regardless of whether he's kitty or puppy though, he'll be full of energy and bouncing around whatever space he's been confined to looking for playmates to roll around or hunt with. it's worth noting though, that after a day of aeon bounding around all over the place, the ghouls are likely to have a very, very sleepy creature on their hands who'll need to be tucked into a little nest with gentle touches and wished a very good nights sleep

and although this mightn't be strictly petre, i've also had a few brief thoughts about completely ghoulish omega :0 like i said, it might not be entirely considered to be pet regression since he's a ghoul anyway, but i think that when everything gets stressful, instead of going little or kitty or puppy, he'll let his ghoulish side out a little more (it's a little bit like a dog but not a puppy, if that makes sense !!). he'll communicate through growls and snarls, running about all over the place on all fours, letting off streams of built-up quintessence magick as he goes. he doesn't wear himself out to the point of pliant sleepiness like dew or aeon do, but he'll come back from his rampage a little calmer, and ifrit and alpha are always more than happy to set up a little doggy bed in one of their rooms for him to curl up in while they all wait for him to come out of it. he usually doesn't like to be touched when he's like this, but he'll never say no to ear scratches or head pats from if and alph <3

yeah i found out about the leaving thing from one of myles' videos on his second channel. he said something about season 2 being more focused around a close-knit group of friends rather than many people because it got overwhelming i think. so some members like razmoose and baconwaffles0 and (extremely unfortunately) astelina and tazoh aren't gonna be back :( there's a list on the official outcasts smp twitter account of the members who are staying if you want to know more

btw i checked astelina's community posts on her channel and she said she's now in a permanent smp so i'm excited to see how it goes :)

i've actually really been meaning to watch all of the echocraft videos! i've only really watched a handful. i'm currently watching lifesteal because i never finished it, but i'll definitely try binging echocraft next!! also i'm pretty sure the donkey one was echocraft! it was so fun and i loved detective myles

I've been meaning to write content for Oucasts for a while now, but ideas are lacking lol. At the moment I've just been brainstorming headcanons for the characters. hi it's hebrew learning anon from a couple months ago:) i have a grammar question and idk thought maybe it could provide some distraction for you. is there a typical rule for when words end with אה/ה instead of just א/the consonant with the last vowel? my thought is that it's pronounciation based?

i can try to answer at least some of that, if i got your question!

words that end with א usually come from aramaic, where this is how they're written. the academy for hebrew language is actually pushing to change most nouns that end with א to end with ה instead, thus changing their plural forms as well (for example, box was קופסא, but now should be written as קופסה. its plural form used to be קופסאות - kufsa'ot, but it's supposed to be קופסות - kufsot)

there are still words like אבא סבתא סבא אמא that end with א for. i assume certain reasons. maybe it's bc they already appear this way in the bible? when it comes to pronunciation tho, there isn't much of a difference

words that end with אה just have like a hard a in the end! הלוואה (loan) will be pronounced as halva'ah, for example :)

as for ה, in addition to all the ah sounds we went over, it can also end in an eh sound instead, sometimes!! best word i can think of is mikveh, for example hehe. don't take my word on it, but i have a feeling many of words like this come from yiddish 🤔

when it comes to rules i. honestly don't know how it goes 😭 since i brought up the hebrew academy, i think they should have some articles in english as well?? and they might've explained it in the past, so it's worth checking out their site! but either way I'll say, statically speaking, ה is most common to see at the end of a word that ends in a vowel that isn't o/u :P

i am curious abt what you mean by words that end with a consonant with a vowel :0 do you have examples for words you ran into that had this? i can't seem to think of any rn andkflg but it might be just a me thing

(only exception to that is ח that sometimes have. i wanna say patakh under it like the one line vowel. but it often makes words end with an "ach" sound just to add confusion 😩)

i hope i didn't just add more confusion there 🙏 tldr in most cases it's less about pronunciation and more the origin of the word. which is a pain to new speakers i assume but i believe in you, you'll figure it out 💪💪💪💪🔥🔥🔥🔥

And I haven't heard of that one before. I might check it out if ever. Tears of Themis I've been grinding since like... last year I think? Their gacha system sucks though because the probability of getting the card you want it practically 0 at some points and there are sometimes when you get all the cards. The probabilities are whack. You could try Love and Deepspace too, its like animations which is a bit better. The cards are freaking chefs kiss though.

I was on Duskwood for probably an hour or so yesterday... it's okay. I wouldn't say that it's super exciting right now and the texting style is kind of... long in all honesty. And you're right the mini-game is kind of boring.

1. Job markets ass, when using 3rd party job sites like indeed never apply on the app itself! Go to the source, find the actual job posting. Write a cover letter….. yea I know it’s tragic but it’s a good boost. There’s templates on google but I think the general formula is one paragraph expressing interest, body about your qualifications (basically regurgitate your resume, squeeze in key terms specific to the job) final paragraph can be a quick little personal tid bit but usually it’s a send off. 2: This is very clever, and that cinamon one I'll definitetly keep in mind. Cooking is definitely an area im lacking in and improvising meal is not something I do easily, so having 3 to 4 'meals' for when you have 0 spoons for cooking is deffo something that will be useful to me. Cinammon toast!

3: yeah, i wrote this post while tired and frustrated. Thankfully the tides are changing at least a bit in that regard and we are seeing more variety. Still, I hope we get more shows where the friendship is front and center and challenged and explored a- I LIKE FRIENDSHIPS!! I LOVE WHEN PEOPLE ARE FRIEND AND FIND MEANING IN THAT TITLE!! i'm glad you enjoy my writing, and I'm glad that you enjoy my presence here too!! i'd love to give you advice, because you're not wrong, it's difficult to get started!!

the hardest thing to get over at first is the stigma around fanfiction!! it's really not something that's very outwardly common, of course tumblr is a safe space but people outside of it can be assholes! please just remember, fanfiction is not only a great way to start writing, but it's an excellent way to improve your writing, and grow with it!! you work with predetermined and pre-exposed characters and a defined setting, and of course you're taking creative liberties with the confines of the scenario and with their character, but you're able to cast away some of the burden of major character building to focus on the little things!! you're able to work with characters that you love, and it helps you fine-tune the more advanced areas of your writing because you don't need to focus on the worldbuilding! ignore what people have to say about it, i swear to god people will criticize fanfiction for being cringey and delusional and then watch porn and imagine themselves in the scenario.. like.. babe that's the same thing.. just ignore them!!

the advice that i usually give when people are scared of not getting feedback is to make sure that you're liking what you're writing! if you write something because you think other people will like it, and then it doesn't get as big as you wanted it to, you'll be discouraged. but if you write something that you think you will like, even if it doesn't get as big as you wanted it to, you'll still have it for you!!! just remember, growth doesn't have to be linear (don't get discouraged if you rack up 80 notes one day and only 30 the next, it doesn't mean you won't ever get 80+ again), and don't ever discredit your work just because not a lot of people are seeing it at first! you still wrote it, whether it was 200 words or 20,000, you wrote that and no one can take that away from you just because they don't see it

i will say though, tumblr has a difficult feedback system. the ratio of likes to reblogs can be absolutely atrocious at times (41:0 and 289:3 might be my worst), and it hurts sometimes that people don't seem to want Your Thing on Their Blog, y'know? But i guarantee you once you get a good reblog/review/piece of feedback, it's like meth. those reviews are literally good enough to break you out of that funk!! i hope you get lots of those :D

it's hard work, writing on tumblr. if not for the act of writing itself, but for the act of putting yourself out there and not knowing what you'll receive. it's a brave thing to do, and i hope it goes well for you!! if you are who i think you are i'll definitely keep an eye on your blog and make sure to check out whatever you end up posting!

cw: unkind family member made a comment trying to justify some horrible stuff

So this might be a big dumb ™ question, but I'm really not great with words out loud when I'm under a lot of emotion. It's why I'm a writer, I think; I write out my responses so much better than I could ever say them.

Someone in my family over their holiday visit spied on me reading a whump prompt, and after they quickly skimmed it, they made the most offhand, hurtful comment. I feel like a loser because I had 0 idea how to respond to it because my brain does a massive freeze response and locks completely up.

They said, "Oh, so you're fetishizing abuse now? Makes it perfectly cool then, I guess, to do _____ to someone."

I was so angry, all I could do was stumble out "No, that's not--no," and had to just leave and cry in the next room until they left. I wanted to explain that no; whump is something that helps me. I just...I didn't know what to say, or how to properly describe whump, and I almost want to reach out and explain it to them, but they're unfortunately the type of family member to side with all the wrong types of people. They're always saying something like this, it's just never been directly to me.

I think my question is, do you or a fellow whump writer have advice for how I might explain this to someone in the future, if not that particular person, that that's not what this is doing? That that's not what my fellow writers are doing? Because honestly, I've never been in a more supportive community than this, I love how whole I feel here, but I'm just struggling so much with not only the right way to explain it, but the guts to say it out loud.

I'm so sorry to bother you. I look up to you a lot. It's hard being in a trauma headspace a lot and formulating responses under pressure for me personally. Ughhhh. I'm asking anonymously because I'm too scared I'll be put on blast or something for 'not speaking up'. But thank you for reading. I see you and I hear you and I am sending you so much love. What your family member did was really shitty. (First, spying on something seemingly without your consent? Asshole move. Second, making you feel shit about something you like? Asshole love. Third, making you feel shit about something you made? Big asshole move.) I’m sorry you had to experience that.

First up: There’s nothing wrong with you for liking whump. There’s nothing wrong with you for reading it. There’s nothing wrong with you for writing it.

Liking and producing whump content doesn’t mean you condone abuse, and it doesn’t mean you’re a bad person. You’re okay.

You’re also not a loser for not being able to rattle off a perfectly reasoned response in a moment of confrontation. That shit is hard, even when you’re not running on trauma software. You’re not a failure or dumb for not having an answer for them. You’re just a human. Especially on a topic as complex as whump.

I don’t think anyone would “put you on blast” for not speaking up. We’ve all been there, whether on the topic of whump or not. Anyone who’s telling you that you need to be a champion defender of whump at all times is just as much of an asshole as your family member in my opinion. You need to look after you first.

Whump is more prolific than we acknowledge or people recognise sometimes, in my opinion. It’s very easy for people to watch a movie or read a book and know the creators aren’t condoning what they’re depicting, but people seem to find it more difficult when they know the artists personally (like your family member knows you, for example). Something that I do sometimes is make references to things that are well known. Like:

“Saving Private Ryan depicts war and I don’t think they’re glorifying war. It’s a way to explore different parts of humanity and I think that’s interesting”

“[insert TV show here] has a lot heavy themes as a way of exploring character and relationships. That’s what I’m doing here.”

“Horror movies depict violence and gore all the time and they’re rarely fetishising things. It’s a way to get people to face and explore their fears and anxieties in safe, entertaining ways.”

You can also check out the “defining whump” tag for some really great community commentary on the subject.

Here’s the other thing, though: You also just straight up don’t have to justify yourself. You can just shrug and ignore them. Their opinion, and I know this maybe doesn’t feel true, straight up doesn’t matter.

If your family member is anything like some of mine, they likely won’t be convinced to your side. I don’t know your family member, so maybe I’m wrong, but it sounds to me like they were wanting to pick a fight, not have a discussion with you. In which case, even a million well thought out points and arguments won’t help. They’re just in this to make you feel crappy. In those situations, sometimes it’s best to just say “that’s your opinion, I just gave a different view” and step away from the convo.

You know why you like whump. You know why you read it. You know why you write it. You know what you enjoy about it. You know you don’t condone abuse or violence. That’s all that matters. You don’t need a moral high ground to find joy or benefit in something. It’s all good.

I know this is easier said than done, but remind yourself of the community you love and the content you enjoy and let the comments be water off a ducks back. We’ve got you. We get you. Forget about the folks that don’t. They’ve got their plate full of their own shit and clearly don’t have the space for empathy right now.

We love you. We are you. You’re all good, mate.
