Guys can I be real for a sec. Can I be so real and ask a strange little question.

Did Shadow ever stop to think that Maria wishing for everyone to be happy included wishing for HIM to be happy? Does he understand that his promise to her goes beyond fufilling a duty to others and is a prompt for him to seek out his own joy in life too?

I hope so.

Shadow has his whole "I do what I want. But. Im also under the guidance of Maria's wish" thing, where he can be edgy enough to be like don't tell me what to do but nice enough to still help save the world n all should the time come. He says he does what he wants, but what actually is that? What does Shadow the Hedgehog want aside from fufilling his promise to Maria? Truly? Does he even know? Does SEGA know? Is that discovery something thats ever been/going to be explored?

Obviously a lot can be and has been implied or stated off to the side in external media like social posts and wikis (and I want to say the comics buuuut i havent read them yet), Im thinkin more about genuine confirmation in game.

If I'm honest, I think I'm really just asking about the future.

Is there a new hope for Team Dark getting closer again? What about Sonic and Shadow as a duo, considering all that happened and how little we saw them interact in the game?

Now that Shadow has had another chance to reconcile with his past, where will the Ultimate Lifeform go next?

When I was very small and I didn't feel good, my mom used to make up stories to tell me. Books were nice but didn't tell me the things I wanted to know about most. I didn't get to explore them unless it was in my own imagination. And that's fun, but being told stories is better in a lot of ways. So I would ask her to tell me stories about Peter Rabbit or Robin Hood, or any other character I really loved. I would tell her what I wanted the story to be about, and she would make it up, and I could stop her anytime and ask her for more details, or to change something. I'm sure this was occasionally frustrating for her, but it's something I really enjoyed. I think it was probably part of what made me want to become a writer.

I don't feel good tonight. I'm too drained to read. Audiobooks aren't the same as somebody sitting with me and telling me a story.

I don't wish for my mom to be around very often, and I'm not really wishing for that now. But I do wish I had somebody to sit with me and be kind and make up stories for me until I feel well enough to get up and do it for myself.

Yes, I totally agree with everyone that Rouge bribing Shadow into coming to Sonic's birthday party with her is hilarious, and is her way of getting him to socialise/see Sonic/wingman her while she flirts with Knuckles, all that jazz.

BUT.

I was thinking about it a little more, and it hit me.

Is it also possible that this was Rouge's way of inviting Shadow out so that _they_ could spend time together?

Shadow doesn't work for G.U.N as far as we know of from these shorts, and while it's fair to say they Rouge was surprised to see Shadow out since she was on a mission somewhere so specific, it's also possible that she was just surprised to see him in general. What I know of the canon vs the fanon made me take a second to consider it, since I'm a big fan of the idea that Rouge and Shadow hang out quite often. In a series like Sonic where the current lore can be unclear, in tandem witht he fact that i'm a relatively new fan, can you blame me lol.

From what I know canonically, they don't hang out a lot or go out of their way to see each other. They may trust each other and consider themselves friends, but not actually spend time together often.

I wonder if this offer is Rouge getting herself a chance to see her friend again. To find out more about how he's doing, under the guise that it's just because she wants him to be at Sonic's birthday party with her. To use this outing as a catalyst to open up their communication again, so she can drag him shopping, or on a mission, or wherever else they could go to hang out together. Something just shy of "sneaky spy tactics" like that.

Just my observation. What do you think?

I have a germ of a theory that good Christian fiction has stories that are less about shaving down your personality to meet some specific mold of what a good Christian looks like, and more about "how gloriously different are all the saints."

Not that the Christian life doesn't involve fighting against our own sinful nature and conforming ourselves to Christ-like behavior, but I think it makes for better, more realistic, and more universal stories when you also recognize that people have different gifts and flaws and they're going to be called to use their unique personalities to serve the kingdom of God in their own unique way, instead of assuming everyone has to conform themselves to a very specific (often secular-culturally based) image of good behavior. It makes for a much more vibrant story.
