For some reason, I really think (hope) that Lucius and Izzy are gonna bond a lot this season, so let me suggest:

After returning to the Revenge and having to sleep on the same ship as Blackbeard, Lucius starts having nightmares about Ed trying to kill him again in the middle of the night—on top of his recurring ones about the other ships he was on. Since he wakes up screaming, everyone knows something is up, but he can't bring himself to vent to anyone to not overwhelm them.

Seeing that, with the excuse of just wanting to sleep, Izzy manages to buy/steal a new sketchbook for him at the next port. He tells him he can use it as a diary to vent or to draw those fears out of his mind. He also tells him he can use the old face paint and some water to paint charcoal-style.

Long story short, as time goes on and the drawing starts helping, the notebook goes from terrifying scenes and figures to portraits of the crew (yes, even Izzy).
