i would love to know the true internal thoughts of Rex in regards to Palpatine. like what Rex actually thought of him.
surely Rex met Palpatine in-person at least a handful of times, right? and while Anakin would've said only good things about Palpatine, i wonder if Rex believed them, or if he ever saw/sensed something else in General Skywalker's beloved mentor and friend
#did rex and ahsoka ever talk about palpatine?#i'd guess rex would talk to cody about him#did he ever get stories from Fox about palpatine? stories that made him shiver up the spine a little?#i know in-fandom it's a widespread ''joke'' that Fox bitches about his job and palpatine ...#but it'd be interesting to think about beyond just a joke..like if Fox did hate Palps or was brainwashed or#or maybe would never have the opportunity to talk to other clone commanders and captains regardless#maybe palps had him on a very tight leash idk#the writers certainly did LMAO we saw him like once on screen???#anyways tag rant over#captain rex#palpatine#the clone wars#star wars

i ... i dont know if you're still taking asks... and i am anxious even sending this but .... I adore you and your writing and I dont really know how this works, but if you ARE still taking asks (and this is with NO time limit, i know you're busy and mourning and i am in no hurry and dont want to cause undue stress) i would love some Rex/gn reader comfort. stuff has been *hard* lately and i could use some cheering up.
can you tell i'm a bit nervous about asking? ^.^
Yes, I can tell you are nervous about asking, and I'm so sorry I've been on the edge so much lately that peeps have a hard time sending requests 😅 Some Rex x gn Reader comfort fluff? Coming right up...
Rex x GN!Reader One-Shot - I Knew I'd Find You Here
Comfort/Fluff
__________
You've had a rough week and a rough day today. You've been under a lot of stress lately and Rex has been traveling a lot, you've seen each other very rarely in the last few weeks. You've retreated with some reading material and your music player to the small roof terrace that belongs to your apartment building. At this time of day, there's nothing going on up here, and you have the place all to yourself, just right for you, even if you'd rather have Rex with you.
Your favorite songs are playing through your headphones, and you're drifting between reading and daydreaming, finally feeling some of the week's stress fall away from you, when a strong hand, gently but firmly, grabs your shoulder and scares you half to death.
"Hey, love, are you deaf?"
Your heart is still racing from that little scare as you hastily pull off your headphones and look up in surprise at Rex's face. He smiles at you, his helmet tucked under his right arm, and you breathe a sigh of relief. Then a grin spreads across your face. It's so good to see Rex. You stand up and fall around his neck.
Rex laughs softly, "I'm glad to see you too. I knew I'd find you here."
With a relaxed sigh, you lean into his embrace and close your eyes for a moment, just enjoying his closeness.
"I've been trying to reach you," he tells you, "but I guess you didn't hear your com."
"Sorry," you say meekly, kissing his chin.
Rex smirks and leans his forehead tenderly against yours with a hum.
"I missed you," he confesses softly in his deep voice.
" I missed you too."
He sits down with you on the bench under the cherry blossom tree where you also sat before, puts down his helmet and puts an arm around you.
After a moment of silence, Rex says carefully, "I talked to Cody. He says you ran into him and that you seemed tense. You want to tell me what that's all about?"
You feel caught, and a little guilty, too. Rex has more than enough of his own to worry about, you don't want him worrying about you on top of it.
"It's been a rough week," you admit, "exhausting and frustrating."
He pulls you a little closer to him and sighs softly.
"Sorry to hear that"
You smile and reach for his free hand, playing with his gloved fingers. It's a soft, tender moment. There are no words for how much you missed being with him like this, every second he's not been with you.
"That I get to see you so rarely lately bothers me much more, though," you say softly.
"Me too," Rex sighs, kissing your temple, "Me too."
You lean deeper into his embrace, resting your legs over his, your face close to his neck, and take a deep breath. It is good to feel him, to smell him. You hear him laugh softly, then he asks, "Are you sniffing me again?"
"Maybe," you say, smirking, your face still close to his neck.
"I come with good news, though".
You sat back up straighter to face him, your arms wrapped around his shoulders.
"Let's hear it!"
Rex smirks and says, "I'm off duty for four days next week."
You beam happily at him.
"Please tell me we can spend those four days together."
Rex laughs and says, "Yes, we can, and we will."
You sigh in relief and lean back into him. It's a nice feeling knowing you'll have more time with him soon.
"I can't wait," you say dreamily.
"I feel the same way. I already have something planned too, I hope you don't mind. I thought we'd book a hotel room on Naboo and visit that little restaurant you liked so much, among other things."
The thought is delightful, but a worry plagues you, "Rex, we can't afford that."
Undeterred, Rex says good-humoredly, "I called in a favor from General Skywalker and Senator Amidala. The hotel room won't cost us anything, and we already have a reservation at the restaurant"
Again you sit up to look at him.
"A favor? Oh, don't tell me, I already know, the secret you're keeping for them," you say with a conspiratorial smile.
Rex nods with a lopsided smile. Again, you lean into him and say, "I can't wait."
You think about the beautiful little restaurant in the countryside, the beautiful architecture on Naboo. Time alone with Rex, catching up on so much. That would be a wonderful little, vacation.

oh no, oh no no no no no.
I got a sequel fic(s) idea ALREADY for this Cody and Slick fic.
Cody's going to end up joining Rex's op to help smuggle clones out out of the Empire. I'm going to have Slick message Cody teasing him about how he did a shit job of hiding his new holonet account he used to sign on his holotab during this fic and make a quip along the lines of "You really need to learn how to be a better spy"
And my brain immediately went "So Cody needs to meet up with Quinlan and learn how to spy from him yes? And then they can mutually bond over their loss and trauma together and maybe over the course of the mission they end up having an angsty, no strings attached we both want to feel a human connection again affair.
I may have a lowkey ship for Cody/Quinlan. And would be totally down for a Cody/Quin/Obi-Wan thruple if we're being honest.
And then third fic, Cody finds out through Quin courtesy of the Path that Obi-Wan is alive and hiding out on Tattooine so Cody finally gets to reunite with Obi-Wan and yanno...actually confess and they semi-get their shit together. (Also can you imagine Obi's unmitigated horror in finding out Cody and Quin slept together?
OH MY GAWD WHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE.
I actually had already planned to write this awful, angst-filled Cody has to survive Obi-Wan's death in ANH and just spends the remainder of the war getting older, sadder and more tired of living fic I'd been talking to Lisia about months ago.
So guess I have a new angst goblin fucking universe now.
An accurate representation of my mind right now when considering how this is going to be a fucking behemoth this will become because I know myself.
#el writes#so much angst#codywan#codyquin#wtf is even that pairing name#gods save me from myself#commander cody#clone trooper slick#obi-wan kenobi#quinlan voss

Hello, m'lady!
If you don't mind, here are some incoherent thoughts about some of the Bois that came to my mind after reading around in your brilliant writing. You said you wouldn't mind my incoherent thoughts, so I thought I'd share them! (I'm still working on my incoherent Bad Batch thoughts, btw)
I want to hug Jesse. Like, he's hot as hell no questions asked, but I also just want to hug him. Like, a long hug. And tell him that he's loved and that he's enough and wonderful exactly as he is.
Also, I want to cook for all the clones, but these vibes are the strongest with Wrecker, and, for some reason, Hardcase and Fives.
Also, my ideal date is going to one of those public strawberry picking fields where you can just... walk around and fill your basket with strawberries, and afterwards go home and bake strawberry cake, and I'm going to drop that in this context.
Also I find it so interesting how non-commitical Rex actually is; like, who would've guessed that a guy with such a spit-death-in-the-face attitude on the battlefield would be so scared to let someone into his heart.
Also, I low-key wanna call Cody Marshall Commander, Sir and see what happens >:3
I haven't even consumed any Delta Squad material, but solely the writing on this blog made me love them all and (idk, maybe they've met in canon XD) I think Boss and Cody would get along.
And someone should tell Fixer to go tf to sleep, I'm sensing that he doesn't do that *nearly* enough.
Someone should also tell Kix that always putting others first and neglecting his own needs is not what being a good, compassionate person is about, and that he's worth it.
I could go on and on, damn, but lemme just say that your depiction of the Bois really helped shape a more 3-dimensional and rich picture of them in my head and that is awesome :)
Also thank you sm for my date set-up again, I'd 100% ask the dear commander for a second date.
I've been thinking about these gems nonstop since you dropped them in my inbox! 💙 I love getting thoughts like this so keep them coming! I don't get to talk about these wonderful clone men IRL so this is my only outlet 😅
And just so you know, I did intend to respond like a normal person and just... piggyback on your thoughts, share a few of my own, call it a day... but then my hand slipped and now I have 8 whole one-shots to share instead 😳😳
So, in honor of May the Fourth, I've got my 8 stories queued up to post throughout today (5/4), all based on what you shared here! We've got hurt/comfort, we've got silliness, we've got slice-of-life, we've even got some spice.... I had so much fun writing these and I hope you all enjoy them!
Thanks for the inspo, friend! Wishing everyone a fantastic Star Wars day! 🌟
JESSE
Jesse definitely needs a good, solid hug every once in a while. Be prepared for his reaction, though, it'll be quite an emotional moment for him...
WRECKER (+Fives and Hardcase)
They do say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach...
BLACKOUT
Why not go on this ideal date with your new beau, Blackout? 😃
REX
His fear of commitment is interesting, huh? But he does have many loved ones who will help him work through that fear...
CODY
Oh boy, you'd best be ready for a long night after a line like that...
BOSS & CODY
They're leaders with different styles, different responsibilities, different crews... and yet they're bonded together like two old men who just met in the power tools aisle...
FIXER TECH
Actually, I headcanon that Fixer is an early bird. It's more likely that someone would tell him to go back to sleep.
Tech on the other hand...
KIX
There aren't a lot of people Kix would listen to if they told him that. Thankfully you're one of them...

Snippet for Home (On the Range): I'm curious about any past relationships Cody and Ben have had, and so if you feel up to it, I'd love to watch them have the conversation about past loves that always has to happen eventually. :D
:D GOOD MORNING! I almost said this was the first of the follow-ups for "Home (On the Range)" but, in fact, there've been two already aha. This is the first one set AFTER the fic, though only by a week or so.
This is a (not that) little Codywan snippet. Established relationship and it got VERY SPICY. Grown-up conversations ensue.
~~~~
The temperatures had dipped well into chilly, at least overnight, when Cody suggested they head out deep into the ranch one evening. “You can see every star up there,” he said, pulling Ben into a kiss. “Thought it might be nice. And we’ll want to do it before it gets any colder.”
Ben wondered if the suggestion had anything to do with the astronomy lessons he’d been prepping for class, even as he hummed agreement. They piled blankets into the bed of Cody’s truck, along a sleeping bag and a few thermoses full of something warm.
It was dark by the time they pulled up onto the ridge of a hill, deep inside the borders of the ranch. Cody turned the lights off, nothing but the rumble of the engine breaking the stillness of the night, and said, “It’ll take a bit for our eyes to adjust. Half an hour, maybe.”
“Oh, really?” Ben said, hooking a finger into the collar of Cody’s shirt and pulling him over, murmuring, against his mouth, “whatever shall we do to fill the time?”
Cody huffed a laugh, mouth welcoming and warm, swearing briefly when Ben added, after a beat, “You know, I’m not sure there’s any way I can fit into your lap over there.”
Cody’s eyes caught the light of the stars outside, just a little, as he rasped back, “Good thing we’ve got the entire bed of the truck, then.” And he popped open his door, allowing in the cooler outside air, even as he turned off the truck.
The air felt nippy on Ben’s face as they climbed up into the bed of the truck, but it wasn’t so bad, really. They’d spread out the sleeping bag along the bed, keeping away the chill of the metal, and there were plenty of blankets.
And, well.
Kissing Cody always warmed him up, anyway. Ben thought about pulling his close, the stars as yet unseen stretching overhead and the hills rolling all around them, the Tetons watching, sentinels in the distance.
Cody swore when his phone buzzed, pulling it out of his pocket and taking a step away from the truck as Ben finished sorting the blankets, considering that he’d never had sex in the back of a truck before. It seemed a nice idea, making love out under the endless sky.
He grimaced when he recalled that he’d left his wallet back at the house, condoms along with it, though he’d slid a packet of lube into his front pocket. He frowned, swinging over the side of the truck to see if Cody had brought his wallet, plucking it from his pocket as he said, “--Rex, I swear to God, if you try to come out here right now--”
He winked when Cody looked over at him, waving the wallet, and listening to Rex laugh, his voice distant and distorted through the phone.
Ben left them to it, climbing back up into the truck, flipping Cody’s wallet open, pleased to find a familiar little foil square tucked inside. He drew it out, planning to set it aside for use in a bit, when they needed it, and frowned.
It felt...odd.
He tilted it around - noting the brand - and peered at it in the light provided by the moon and the stars. He blinked, grabbed his own phone, and turned it on to get enough light to read it properly, sure that he’d misread the expiration date, because--
“Something wrong?” Cody asked, the truck dipping slightly as he stepped up onto the bed, apparently done with Rex.
“Well,” Ben said, putting down his phone and turning the condom in his fingers. “Aside from the fact that this condom expired five years ago, not really.”
Cody paused, still standing, looking down at him. “Oh,” he said, as Ben turned the little packet again and then, on a whim, tore it open. He’d never actually seen one expire before.
“Hm,” he said, wrinkling his nose. Apparently, they were not one of the things that stayed good, even long, long after they expired. Any moisture had long since disappeared. The condom itself looked like a dessicated snake skin, or something like it. “I don’t think this’ll work,” he added. “Though we could try rehydrating it, I suppose, I--”
“Let’s not do experiments on the condom,” Cody said, taking it out of his fingers and tucking it into a pocket. “Should we go back to the house? Get another one?” He sank down, close by, and Ben considered it, but--
“I’m sure we’ll find some way to entertain ourselves,” he said, looped an arm around Cody’s shoulders, and pulled him close.
He’d gotten familiar with the best ways to take off Cody’s clothes, unbuttoning his flannel shirt and pushing it off his shoulders, tugging his undershirt out of his waistband. Cody pulled the blankets up around them, the warmth from his skin translating into Ben’s body as Ben shimmied out of his jeans, pulling his own shirt over his head.
The moonlight shone off of Cody’s skin, caught in the dark curls of his hair. Their breath steamed the air - the temperature had really plunged with the fall of night - but Ben didn’t feel cold, not as they tangled close together, trading kisses that set a fire in his veins, not with Cody putting off heat like a furnace, warm hands all over Ben’s skin.
And Ben had become rather fond of the idea of getting fucked under the stars, in the brief time he’d had to consider it. Just because it wasn’t going to happen the way he’d initially assumed didn’t mean it wouldn’t happen at all.
“Here,” he rasped, rolling onto his side, grabbing for the jeans and the lube in his pocket, pulling it out, “Here, like this, ah, Cody.”
Cody’s weight felt good against his back, warm and solid, Cody’s teeth scraping along the curve of his shoulder as he settled, taking the packet of lube from Ben’s fingers without any of the hesitation he’d displayed the first few times they were intimate with one another.
“Like this?” Cody rumbled, right against his shoulder, and Ben heard the wet movement of Cody slicking up his own cock, felt the smear of the rest of the lube over the back of his thighs and--
Exhaled, hard, when Cody ground against him, overheated flesh sliding together. Probably, they were making more of a mess than they should have done, out in the middle of some field, out in - in such an exposed place, but--
It was hard to care, with Cody sucking a kiss into his neck and grinding against him, panting out, “Spread your legs, just a little,” and when Ben listened, slotting his cock right between Ben’s thighs, rocking them together.
If there were anyone around, Ben hated to think what would have been overheard, the two of them swearing and gasping and groaning. He knew he cried out, loudly, when Cody slid a hand over his hip, gripping his cock and stroking him, so sure and so steady and--
Well.
The sleeping bag was going to need a wash when they got back home.
So was Ben, in all honesty.
He laughed, hoarsely, when Cody pulled away from him, leaving his inner thighs smeared with come. It was quite warm, at first, but Ben knew that wouldn’t last. “See,” he said, sprawling onto his side, thighs held apart, groping for something to wipe up with, “a condom would have prevented this mess.”
“Sorry about that,” Cody said, and then, “here, use my shirt.”
And then he used it himself, wiping up the mess all over Ben’s legs and cock. He even smeared away the mess on the sleeping bag, as best he could. Ben watched him - he was easier to see, Ben’s eyes must have adjusted, and said, “Why did you have an expired condom in your wallet, anyway?”
Cody balled his shirt up, the mess tucked away inside, and shrugged. He tossed it into one corner of the bed of the truck. “It’s just the one I’ve always had. I never really checked the date on it.”
Ben blinked, turning that over in his head, even as Cody settled close to him, naked under the blankets. Ben said, as Cody curled an arm around him. “The one you’ve always - you - what does that mean?”
Cody shrugged, stubble rasping against Ben’s shoulder, while Ben wondered if Cody had really avoided using a condom before, because that didn’t sound like him at all, and--
“I got it, ah, years ago. When I was - when I thought I might need it. But then I didn’t. I kept it, just in case. But…” He trailed off, shrugging again.
Ben blinked up at the clear, shining stars, and then rolled to face Cody, gut doing something strange. “Wait. Did you never--”
“I did stuff,” Cody said, still staring up at the stars. “A few times with, uh, with a guy I really liked. He competed, too. We were friends for a while. And then one day I just wanted to kiss him, so I did. And we, well. Fooled around, I guess. But then I beat him, pretty soundly, and he didn’t want to anymore.”
Ben blinked, processing that. He’d known that, sooner or later, they’d end up having a talk about their pasts. That kind of thing happened. “He didn’t want to anymore?” he asked, trying to get his mind around anyone not wanting Cody anymore, he was--
“Yeah, I guess.” Cody sighed, tucked his arm behind his head, and stared starward. “And I’d already bought the string of condoms, even though we’d only needed two. But then it was over, so. And I put one in my wallet.”
Ben watched his expression carefully. He didn’t seem upset. Just...relating the story. “And then you never used it,” Ben said, quietly.
“Never needed it,” Cody said, shrugging against the sleeping bag. “I’ve been busy since then. And didn’t have anyone I particularly wanted to use it with.”
“Oh,” Ben said, the cold air nipping at his exposed skin, but ever so warm under the blankets.
“What about you?” Cody asked, before he could wrangle another thought together. “Yours aren’t ever expired.”
“Ah, no,” Ben said, and then shrugged, settling against Cody’s side. “I’ve always been very careful to use them.” He felt his ears heat.
Cody hummed, curled an arm tighter around him, and said, “I know you’ve been with more people’n me, Ben. It doesn’t bother me. Hell, I’m glad one of us knows what we’re doing.”
Ben exhaled a little, snuggling in closer against the cold. It had, probably, been foolish to worry, to brace for disapproval. He traced patterns on Cody’s chest under the blanket and said, “I had no idea that you didn’t, ah, know what you were doing.”
Cody snorted, rolling onto his side, brushing a kiss to Ben’s cheek and then his mouth, fingers tracing down his spine. His expression, what Ben could see of it, looked a bit smug. “I learn fast,” he said, tone warm and low. “Especially when I get hands-on instruction.”
“I see that.” Ben crooked his mouth, brushing Cody’s hair back from his face. He figured, feeling soft and content, that if they were going to discuss their histories, he might as well finish it all, and went on, “I haven’t had many long relationships. Just...brief flings. A longer thing with a girl, right before I started college. And Luminara and I tried to make something work, once. But we’re much better friends than lovers.”
Cody nodded, said, “I never was very interested in girls.”
“Mm, I gathered.” He leaned in for another kiss, shivering when Cody brushed his callused fingers a little lower. He rasped, gut tightening, “Don’t tease.”
“Sorry,” Cody murmured, nipping his bottom lip. “And sorry we don’t have all the supplies we need.” Ben hummed, not overly concerned by the lack, not when they could trade sweet, lazy kisses, occasionally glancing at the stars, until Cody went on, “You know. We could - well. We’re together. Just the two of us.”
Ben turned away from his contemplation of a constellation he couldn’t name, nodding, and Cody went on, “We could get tested. I mean. I don’t think I could have caught anything, to be honest. And if I had, I think I’d have noticed in the last couple of years. And you’ve been careful, you said. But better to check. And then…”
He shrugged, and Ben considered it. He’d never slept with anyone skin on skin. Qui-Gon had been exceedingly clear about all the possible consequences of skipping out on protection. Even with Satine, young and giddy half the time, he’d always been careful.
But - he didn’t plan to share his bed with anyone else, he considered, staring across at Cody in the dark, under the brilliant light of the stars and the moon. He didn’t want to kiss anyone else. Or pull anyone else close in the night.
His heart ached in his chest, sweetly, and he said, “And then we wouldn’t need supplies to have sex in the back of your truck?”
“Mm,” Cody said, rolling closer to him, one elbow braced by his head, leaning down to kiss him, “Or to make love under the stars, either.”
Ben shivered, curled an arm around him, and felt his stomach swoop, imagining that, imagining them skin to skin everywhere. He said, his voice gone to a rasp, “That sounds very nice,” and Cody smiled against his mouth, kissing him again.
Being in a Secret Realtionship with Rex
I needed to write some headcannons I need to get them writer juices flowin
-Rex? Rex who? I dont know a Rex
-Oh you know a Rex
-Side eye glances
-eating with the clones instead of the Jedi because "you want to be closer to your teammates" it wasnt a total lie, but it just so happened that Rex sat near Jesse and Cody who you sat next to
-Rex's I have to write a report excuse is really just to go see you in your room
-Late hour cuddles
-you both eat Meilroons together aftwr missions uptop ruins or fallen ships, sometimes when your eating them at base togetger the others come to join and he likes seeing you enjoy the company so it makes him happy
-lots of hiding in closets so neither one gets caught
-One time you may have gone a little too far but as you passed him in the halls you stopped, "nice ass."
-hopefully no one heard that
-wrong Anakin did
-"so you and Rex huh? Thats where you two suddenly go missing too?"
"W-what no!"
"Dont worry. I got a nice date idea."
-Anakin acts like hes starting to come onto Rex, freaking the man out
-the proceeds to "come on to you" with both Pademe's and Yours permission cue the horrible flirting that actually makes you laugh and gag
-no like seriously you three on the small spare time you have come up with horrible pick up lines
-cue Jealous Rex
- Rex looked seeing both you and Anakin in the hanger, him awfully close to you.
"Rex go get your woman!" Ashoka demanded.
"W-what?! General!? I-"
-fuck-Ashoka knows
-after the prank and an intensely spicey nice of jealously both. Ashoka and Anakin help cover for the two of you, Padame helping occasionally.
-Rex watched from a balcony as you were appointed Jedi Master, he was proud of you
-you watched as he was appointed Captain, proud of him just as he was of you. Saluting him as he saluted him back
-you two had talked about the end of the War, you'd leave the order and you two could start a family, and he enjoyed the idea.
-when he finished a mission he walked into the planets market, looking around he spotted a jewelry stand.
"Have anything a jedi would like?"
"What do I look like? The republic?"
-damn okay that vender was sassy af
-Rex ended up picking up a necklace with a peice of wood carving from Endor, it had a yellow stone in the middle which matched your yellow lightsaber so he purchased it and happily went to give it to you
-You were elated by the gift, and you had actually bought him one as well, a blue and white stone that would hang around his neck
-you know all was happy until Order 66 was executed
-You big dead, like dieing in his arms dead
"No not you too. Please don't leave here. Dont leave me." Rex begged
"It'll be okay Rex-"
"No. Not you! Not you!"
"Take this..." Y/n spoke handing him her lightsaber, the totem wrapped around it as tears fell from his face onto her chlothes, "Give it to someone...someone that when you look at them. You see me."
"Y/n..."
She closed her eyes as her body fell limp, he screamed in agnoy as he held her body close to his.
-fuck okay Now the author is crying-
-He never did find anyone that reminded him of you until he was called back into battle.
"Hey! Rex! Come take a look at this!" Ezra called.
Old Rex came out of the ship climbing the hill as the group of rebels stood up top it.
"Now that's a beatiful sight." Rex spoke as the group looked out into nothingness, the sun setting on the untouched planet.
"I suppose sometimes its nice to be on the run." Sabine said.
"I guess your right." Hera spoke.
Kanan kept to himself and so did Zeb.
"Hey! Heads up!" Ezra spoke throwing a fruit at Rex as he caught it, Ezra handing the others out, taking his place back between Kanan and Rex.
Rex looked down at the Meilroon as he looked back out into the sunset.
'Our house could over look the sunset on a hill like this, with...four kids.' Y/n spoke.
'Four?' Rex asked as the two laid in the feild on the hill.
'Well more for sure. But After four I'd adopted theres a lot of kids out there that need it.' Y/n smiled.
Rex smiled, "Hey kid."
Ezra looked back at him, "Yeah whats up?"
"This is for you."
Ezra looked at the wrapped item Rex took from his belt pouch, and the necklace wrapped around it that was stained in red.
"A good friend of mine said to give it to someone like her. I think you fit that."
Ashoka came up behind him placing a hand on his shoulder as she nodded in condolences knowing what he had just done was hard.
Thoughts on The Book of Boba Fett, Episode 5 and Predictions for Episodes 6 and 7!
Been percolating on this one all week, and I have Thoughts, as well as Predictions/Hopes/Dreams to be crushed, which I want to be on the internet so that if/when I am right, I can point and say, "AHA! I GUESSED THAT ONE!"
Like everyone, I'm more than a bit miffed that we got a great Mandalorian episode at the expense of Boba Fett in, you know, The Book of Boba Fett. But I have Ideas about that! (Naive, optimistic Ideas, but Ideas nonetheless.)
Let's start with Ideas and PREDICTIONS, since that's most interesting, anyway. I saw one person online react to Temuera Morrison not being in this episode as, "Maybe he was needed for some heavy fimling in the finale," and I have jumped on that bandwagon and taken control. Because Temuera Morrison has also said that the show is "full of surprises" and "Wow, wait until episode seven!" I dunno, I'm wondering if the next to episodes, like the two-part season finales of both the Mandalorian seasons, will be so damned good it makes us forget the general meh-ness of the season up until now.
SO. What could be this awesome?
Clones and/or Jango: What could possibly be so Temuera Morrison-heavy that he couldn't be in an entire episode of his own damned show? Lots of action, obvs, but I'm thinking bigger. CLONES. JANGO. CLONES AND JANGO FLASHBACKS. I'd forgive a Din detour (Dintour?) for that. We've heard rumors of lots of Mandos, and what if they're clones or something that come to help Boba out in the clutch? Temuera Morrison has also hinted about wanting to be Rex or Cody or other clones, and he's a pretty cheeky dude, so I could see that being a hint.
Mand'alor!Boba: I've seen a couple of suggestions that the Armorer talking about a new Mand'alor riding a the Mythosaur, etc. might be referring to BOBA (who has had the Mythosaur on his armor since the beginning), who has already hinted about wanting to ride his rancor and having already ridden "beasts ten times this size" ... Din doesn't want the Darksaber and also is having issues with it. Maybe? Possibly?? It happened in Legends, and it could free Din up for his Redemption Side Quest.
Din Visiting Grogu: I actually think this was a way to get fans pumped about seeing him reunite with Grogu as well as a reason to have him disappear for a whole-ass episode, because they're not going to show them meeting up again HERE. That'll wait for Mando S3 for sure. Which would explain why we got so much Din backstory frontloaded. (I think it would've been more interesting to have him just appear but with little explanation, but my partner mentioned that then people would be distracted by Din's appearance and not talking about Boba in his own season finale, so I can see why this choice might have been better.)
Boba and Din Reuniting Scene: It seemed obvious to me that they had Fennec show up and not Boba to talk to Din at the end because that scene is going to be bigger than a couple of minutes at the end. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Din comes in toward the very end of episode seven to help out, in the way that Boba helped them out of a tight spot once he got his armor in The Tragedy.
Boba and Din Mando Convo: Lots of people have been upset that Boba couldn't appear in his own show to do some explaining in place of the Armorer, but I think that can still happen. In fact, I'd love if we finally get to see what happened right after The Rescue, but in flashback form and from Boba's POV, and maybe Boba and Din talk about what it means to be Mandalorian. And then we can hear about Boba's (likely complex) feelings about that and maybe get some Jango talk. Because if Boba's going to talk about Jango to anyone, it'll be to the single dad bounty hunter wearing silver armor who just wanted to save his kid. Hell, maybe we'll get both a flashback to them talking on the ship AND a present-day, post-covert-banishment talk!
THE TUSKENS: Okay, so, I am still holding out hope that not all of Boba's tribe was slaughtered, and that he will be reunited with them. BUT ALSO that they come in clutch and help fight the Pykes, because that would be the absolute best of all. (And Din's familiar with the Tuskens, what if he's like, "Oh yeah, I can talk to the [x] tribe," and Boba's like, "That tribe was wiped out 😖😠😭" and Din says, "Oh no, when?" Boba says, "[#] years ago," and Din's all, "Uh, I just talked to them last week?" and then Boba can find his family and be happy!! 🥰 Please, Favreau and Rodriguez, let me have this one at least?? (And if not for me, for all the fans of color who were devastated by their off-screen, haphazard, barely there send-off? Please. I beg you 🙏)
That's all for the predictions. Fingers crossed! 🤞
Now, Episode 5? Most of the things I have to say about the episode have been said before, tbh. Things that stood out to me:
I do so love Din Djarin. Should I have been as excited to see his silhouette behind those grocery-store-freezer-blinds as I was? Probably not. But I gasped anyway.
I adore the parallels to his introduction in episode 1 of The Mandalorian. Coming in like a bamf? Check. Speaking very little? Check. Putting up with no bullshit? Check. "I can bring you in warm, or I can bring you in cold"?? Check! Cutting a man in half??? CHECK.
The parallels bring into stark relief how different he is, too. Here, he talks more, he's a bit sloppy, he's using a weapon he's not as familiar with, he gets injured (once by himself, and oh, boy, was I glad to see someone injure temselves with a lightsaber after little to no training!) (and OOF, he was in PAIN), he's more emotional (that almost primal shout when he cuts dude in half), he seems more brutal than necessary (did the dude need to be sliced in half? he was flat on his back), and he cares about other people (Mando really said, "Workers of the proletariat, unite!"). Also, man is tired af. And misses his bb.
Finding the covert/Armorer/Paz was a surprise, though this definitely felt like a speedrun through all the things I kind of thought we'd get across season 3. Sad that it's just the two characters with lines that seem to have survived. Hopefully there's others and they just haven't found the covert yet.
RIP beskar spear (Um, Ms. Armorer? If beskar is only for armor, how come the Darksaber is made of beskar?? Checkmate.)
Din wanting something for Grogu, saying Grogu's name, admitting that no attachments is not The Way, wanting to make sure he's safe ... ahhh! 😭🥰
Him fighting with the Darksaber, a la Sabine in Rebels, was hella fun. I might have rewound to watch him fall off that platform a dozen times, and it is still funny.
Hooray for keeping the Darksaber, bullshit for the helmet thing, though it was going to happen eventually. I was surprised that they didn't demand all his beskar back. He quite likely would have surrendered it. But he does need his literal Plot Armor, and maybe she figured if he wouldn't give it up, plus Paz can't beat him, so whatever.
The entire sequence with Din Djarin going through Space TSA is the funniest scene in all of Star Wars television (possibly the movies, too). A+ comedy, and he was the perfect amoung of grumpy.
The thing with the ship was silly and fun (Peli is amazing), though I think it went on too long. It's almost as if they could have shortened that and, I don't know, had a cameo from the titular character? Maybe?
Thank you to Pedro Pascal for making "Wizard" sound as cool as "Fucking. Awesome." I still said, "No! No. Not cool," when he said it thought, because it felt so out of character.
He calls Fennec "Fennec" but still calls Boba "Boba Fett," huh? So formal! You'd think they didn't go save his kid together. But awww, he's doing it for free because he honors debts just like Boba Fett. The drug war has to wait for him to visit his bb though!
