I shouldn't even publish this ask, because people will laugh at your lack of reading comprehension, but you started it and I love talking Sirius so here's a breakdown of your seven deadly sins:

1. You completely failed to understand the assignment. Fanon doesn't mean "written by a fan". Fanon means a prevalent version of a character or event which is not supported by canon. Fanon Sirius is a very specific phenomenon, ranted about by @artemisia-black here and summarized by me here. You have failed to provide any examples from my writing that allude to such a portrayal of Sirius.

2. Instead, you complained about my portrayal of Sirius and called it fanon, providing (a pathetic excuse of) examples that aren't anywhere in the fanon version of Sirius and are in fact much closer to canon Sirius. You might have been trying to call my Sirius OOC, but you're probably like twelve and have yet to learn your fandom terminology.

3. "You portray Sirius as this stud muffin that everyone was tripping over" that's canon actually. JKR goes out of her way to tell us how handsome and attractive he was pre-Azkaban every time it comes up:

4. "It's kinda vain as a women" Can You Even English, Bro. Are you saying that I describe Sirius as a person who is as vain as a woman? If so you're not only incorrect, but also sexist.

5. "Sirius not being able to recognize that his best friend/brother was in love with Lily Evans?"

We're talking about My Best Friend's Girl, right? Here's the quote you've been searching for:

Sirius had sometimes thought that James might fancy Lily. He had caught him staring at her, he had noticed something particular in his tone of voice when he spoke to her; and yet, every time he had asked him, James had vehemently denied it.

And because I can't shut up about this story, here's another quote from that same scene:

And he definitely doesn't think that, just because James likes Lily, Lily shouldn't go out with anyone. She's a free girl and she can like a boy if she wants to, including one whose best friend has a crush on her. Bad luck, Prongs.

(I could talk at length about everyone's behaviour in this fic but I'd rather do that in a separate post and not in one addressing a rude anon.)

6. "Sirius doesn't have tattoos" Still waiting for any quote from any of my stories where he has a tattoo.

7. "he's pretty much asexual in canon from what we know" lack of a sexual relationship ≠ asexual. Your interpretation is not the only valid one.

On Headcanons

But I find "headcanon" posts to be a dreadful part of newer fandom culture that I wish would go away. They're very similar to older fandom formats, but now there's this added sense that they're sacred and static. You drop this giant turd of a post about how X Is Actually My Demographic or Y Likes Turtles phrased like it's canon fact when it abjectly is not, and people are supposed to stand up and clap for your personal fantasy. If it were "Here's the fanon I think is most in-character based on canon and why. What do you think?" I'd like it. This "validate me, but you don't get to have an opinion" is masturbation, and I don't need to be involved in other people's masturbation unless it's hot.

I follow the tumblr tags for my favorite characters. I’m not sure what algorithm underlies which tagged posts tumblr chooses to insert into my feed, and so I will not make generalizations about the relative prevalence of these types of posts in the wider tag, but a good deal of what’s shown to me are headcanons. Lists of them, often massive, bullets detailing everything from what someone’s favorite candy might be to how likely they are to cry after sex to the not-at-all absurd ideas that so-and-so blows off steam from minor annoyances with wanton murder, because they’re a villain and that’s what villains do, right?

And god, do I struggle with them. No, the authors of these are not posting them at me, as was the asker in netfic’s scenario, but I am coexisting in this same fandom space as all of this. I have asked myself why I disliked them so, as clearly I am the one out-of-pace with this particular corner of current fandom. It’s harmless fun for the people creating and engaging with that content. I am the stick in the mud. But introspecting about my own feelings on fandom is why I created this damn tumblr, and now that I have the language for it, I must dive in.

It’s not that headcanons aren’t often marked as clearly AU, or otherwise delineated as something besides a meta analysis of the canon text. Scrolling through one of the character tags I follow as I write this post, I see things I would classify as headcanons—the aforementioned lists and ‘incorrect quotes’-type content—headed with explicit language to name the AU or called out as readerfic. There is a sense that these are original ideas. Hell, it’s in the name, headcanons, though I’d argue that the term has ballooned a bit past the original compounding and become something of its own. So, should this not fall under “don’t like, don’t read”?

I mean—other than the fact that it is, that I’m not leaving commentary on anyone’s headcanon posts—

God, I feel a bit awful typing it out, but it’s back to the idea that “people are supposed to stand up and clap for your personal fantasy.” It’s the “added sense that they’re sacred and static.” It’s the fact that when I dropped into a headcanons post on reddit the other day, not even to talk about headcanons but to make a point cautioning a poster about offensive stereotypes, I had multiple people try to talk me into their headcanon for the sexuality of a character. I am just so very tired of this method of engagement with a text.

Because, fundamentally, I have my own set of opinions on characters or their universes, which inform how I write about them in my own meta and fic. I know mine are fluid—I will choose the interpretation that best fits the story I want to tell, and I acknowledge multiplicity in any meta-writing I do. Fuck, I am open to being talked around to more possibilities because of this! There is always more room in the party. What doesn’t work for me is an assertion lacking context, or, worse, an assertion that uses as context some stereotype of the identity/quality being assigned.

In other words, please, please don’t headcanon my villains as aroace because you find them unfuckably unattractive and/or you don’t think people who do bad things can feel love.

You know what does work to make me reconsider my interpretations of a character and make room for new ones? A meta with that “here’s why I get this vibe from canon” analysis. I might not agree, still, but it’ll make me think. Or: a fic, even/especially short ones, that engage with an idea as a proof-of-concept. It can be done, there is interesting ground to cover here, perhaps someone (multiple someones) should run with this and generate more of it?

And so much of this headcanon content feels like it could become those things. I will still stridently disagree with your attempts to keep my ugly villain hot into his 50s or older, but there will be much less to make me privately seethe when one or two bullets from that massive list are turned into 500 words of shortfic, which becomes an offering for the community of fans around that character to consider, not a shotgunning of ideas seemingly designed to hit as wide a field of targets as possible, or a crack-y incorrect quote designed for an absurd shock and ease of reblog-ability. Headcanons, as they seem to exist, offer you nothing to engage with unless you plan to just… agree with them. You can always agree, leaving a like or reblogging them or adding a comment about how X is so true!, and maybe, in the best circumstances, you can “yes, and” some idea from these posts.

But what if you disagree? What does the content offer? Well, unlike a meta, there’s not an implicit invitation to discuss or engage with the underlying ideas that lead to a particular conclusion. And unlike a fic, there’s really nothing to comment on re: character motivations or whether a depiction was handled well. Sure, I can send a post to a friend and snark on it, but that rarely makes me feel engaged with the text or the characters or the creative space of fanwork—it only gives me a chance to blow off some steam about my discontent with parts of the community. Not unwelcome, but also not something that contributes to my excitement about partaking in this community.

And so I’ll slink off, back to my “not fun in current fandom” hole, and go back to being quiet about headcanons and putting what I view as more fulfilling content out into my areas of interest. I’ll still resent it, though, this detritus that blows through my feeds and low-effort-engagements its way to the top of the community’s consciousness.

oo the dark!linh au!! I still have my own idea for one of those that you inspired, I just haven't worked on it because, you know, the wings au. I learned a fun fact about the wings au earlier today and it broke my brain but this post isn't about that so I'll move on. I'm very curious to hear about your ideas for it. I also adore the concept, so I am !! right now

a basic idea is how you start a fic! so you're already doing great. all stories start with an idea and go from there. And then the start and end are an excellent next step. Figuring out the framework makes it so much easier to do everything else in the story! I've already written a post about my planning process so I won't repeat all that hear, but if you want help or feedback on anything I'd be more than happy to help! I don't know how helpful I would actually be, but at the very least I think I could be a good listener. Or maybe I'd just be good at asking questions, but that's also a cool part of the process.

The planning stage of a story is infuriating but so much fun, because towards the beginning its a lot looser. That means that there's a million opportunities to pick from and ruminate on. And you can throw a bunch of things together without it needing to be "right" because things don't need to fit together right now. So you can include notes and details for plans that completely contradict each other and not worry about it! But all that freedom can be a lot sometimes, like opening a new document. Because how do you narrow it down? How do you get from point A to point B and make it make sense and sound good? I start a new document every two weeks and it's always a slap in the face like ah. What words should go there?

"to see whether of not Rhys would move on." Who?? is Rhys?? it kind sounds like Linh is gonna fight him for some reason. I have already constructed an entire scenario and image in my mind around this so I'm going to narrate this so you can be amused by how incorrect this is. They're at a bar. Linh is in the shadows, but watching. Rhys is some self-entitled bitch of a human she's been trailing for days for some reason i haven't figured out yet. Wait. the plot thickens. Linh is serving as a bodyguard for someone the Neverseen needs protected, and Rhys is overestimated his security at the bar, getting to close and too pushy and insistent and trying to make a deal with the person she's protecting. Maybe they're in the middle of negotiations with papers all spread in front on them and a glass of whiskey in hand. And Rhy is refusing to take no for an answer. Linh's been watching the entire time from the rafters or something, crouching, which is why her joints ache. And now that she's been called to action she's going to use the part of the whiskey that's water (like how they dilute it?) to choke him while he takes his next drink. And come up behind him while it happens, feigning concern but really its so no one tries to come up and actually save him. I'm 100% sure this isn't going to happen in the au but damn was it cool to imagine. But whatever this scene turns out to be will be even cooler. I'm positive of it!

and then that tam quote?? oh my?? I'm trying to imagine how he would've turned out if he continued living at home and seeing his parents regularly and it isn't ending well in my mind. I feel like his parents would pretend to be really loving at first now that they've gotten their ideal one child and don't have to acknowledge the twins but it fades after a while.

"and for a second not be able to tell the difference either." Oh?? is someone mistaking him for his sister? I'd assume it's his parents. I feel like they wouldn't have been able to tell them apart a lot and do that stereotypical "oh but you just look so similar" thing even when they...didn't. I was friends with a pair of twins and hung out with them a lot a few years ago and the number of times people did this was so infuriating and I wasn't even the one it was happening to. Because?? if you took a single second to look a little closer you could tell exactly which twin was which based on facial features. Headcanon that the Song parents couldn't tell apart their kids and didn't even try to. I'm getting distracted now oops.

I don't know the context for it but knowing you it's probably angst. And knowing that linh is now dark, the way she's been preserved as sweet and smiling in Tam's memory hurts but I love it.

i did! I did enjoy! I hope my responses to it made sense, but I love hearing other people's ideas. also don't feel pressured to write anything, please. if you want to then go for it, but you aren't letting anyone down by having ideas but no writing. I'm happy to hear about either and I'd be just as excited about this au as i am right now even if it was never written! the concept as a whole is so cool and I'm very interested to hear everything about it you're willing to share.

and thinking about aus forever is honestly a great way to start. it was like nine months I spent just thinking about the wings au before I wrote a single word, and several months after that to write it regularly. don't know where i'm going with this but I'm trying to be comforting/encouraging.

if you do want to write it, I wish you luck! writing isn't always easy but it can be very rewarding. if you do want to publish it, then I'm curious to read it. if you want to keep talking about it, then i'm excited to hear more. if you don't do any of that, it's also fine and I'm glad you enjoy it so much. I think everyone should have a story just for themselves, and if this is yours than i'm happy for you!

Another Taste of Pomegranate. My first ever smut fic (aside from some unreadable slash I wrote in high school) and probably my most popular fic besides Inexorable. I tried so, so hard to get this one right. Occasionally I’ll go back and read the reblogs and tags for it because people were so supportive. And horny. Very, very horny.

Fic you’re most proud of

It’s a tie between Inexorable, my first and so far only multichapter fic, and Koi No Yokan. They were both writing feats that I’d never tried before, a long fic and a fic with a big twist. Before I started my novel, Inexorable was the longest single story I’d written. I was also hesitant to post because I feel really strongly about unfinished multichapter fics and I didn’t want to start a project only to lose interest and not finish. Koi No Yokan was hard to pull off because I wanted the reader to discover the mystery as Mikasa did, but still had to put in clues that it was Levi all along. They both hold up surprisingly well, I just reread Inexorable on Friday and I really liked it, although my god it needs another round of copyedits.

Fave line in a fic you wrote

This is from Catch and Release, probably my only RM angst fic.

She barely has him for a week before one of his gas canisters malfunctions mid-flight and he starts to fall. An enormous hand catches him out of midair and within seconds Levi is gone. He doesn’t make a sound, not even when the Titan’s teeth rip open his belly and bare his guts to the last few people who ever loved him.

How do you get yourself in the mood to write?

I’m actually super undisciplined in this way. I always want to write when I’m working but then I don’t want to when I’m free. I’ll spend tons of time zoning out and planning stories and then not write any of that shit down so it’s all lost to the ages. So basically, I force myself to write. When I notice myself sitting around watching television or otherwise not doing anything, I’ll grab my laptop and open whatever WIP calls to me if I’m feeling inspired, and force myself to work on a particular project if I feel like it needs my attention. I’m writing a comedic romance novel that’s about two-thirds complete and I started writing fanfic again because I needed a break from the novel, so now I switch between my spy AU smut and the novel, depending on how I’m feeling.

This might be controversial, but if I’m feeling anxious about writing or just feeling generally shitty (I’ve been hashtag blessed with a whole bunch of mental health issues) I’ll get a little stoned before writing. I think “write drunk, edit sober” is okay advice: I think getting a little bit inebriated can help ease your inhibitions, but you can’t write if you’re fucked up. Whatever relaxation exercise works for you, really. Sometimes I’ll just meditate on my story (AKA stare into space) and once the ideas start flowing, I’ll grab the laptop.

okay, i definitely think you’d be a crow, first and foremost. you’d fit in perfectly - i think you’d contribute to some of kaz’s ideas (when he actually accepts help and additions) and work through some of the snags in plans he may come across. you're the only one he really listens to in these moments - except inej, at times. i can see you being all around good at defending yourself too! jesper probably taught you how to use a gun good enough, and with inej helping you, you’re also quite handy with a knife. on top of that, i think you'd also be good at finding quick getaways, and would have saved the crows more than once by finding them a quick out when something goes wrong. that's your speciality and the others are more than thankful for it.

jesper loves you. so so much. you're super close with each other. when you first turned up at the slat with a promise of being helpful, he'd taken you under his wing instantly, claiming himself as your new favourite person (whether or not he was right, you'd never give him the satisfaction of telling him that.) he'd be your way into the crows - he'd tell kaz he knew you could be useful and really help them out, and after much pestering and bothering, kaz begrudgingly agreed. he now thinks it's one of the best decisions he's made, but he's kaz, so you'll never know. wylan also loves you, but who's surprised. matthias thinks you’re one of the only competent ones, so you’re in his good books too.

it's no surprise that you catch nina's attention. she'd flirt with you almost instantly, at first not expecting anything to come of it - she's just having fun, you being incredibly pretty is just sort of a bonus. but one day she realises that maybe it isn't as casual as she'd once though and she's actually hopelessly in love with you. does this deter her? not at all. if anything, it spurs her on to flirt even harder with you. and when you reciprocate these feelings she asks you out instantly. power couple of the barrel yes yes <3 she’ll insist to kaz you stick together on missions, liking the sureness she has in being able to protect you if for some reason you can’t protect yourself. she’ll get kaz to steal you some nice jewellery when he can, insisting you deserve the best. all she asks for in return is a kiss.

as for what i love abt you/your blog,, i could say so so much, but i’ve resigned myself to three things

you’re just so so lovely. every time ive spoken to you you’ve been an actual angel, and you’re always so supportive and just so nice and easy to speak to - im still so thankful for your support/feedback on my fics and writing!!!

Davide choosing not to call Hakan or Simon but to call Sandro instead is so funny 😭 and the way Sandro yells at him for three minutes straight killed me. Sometimes this fic makes me laugh (in a very good way) and I love that.

1. Why did you choose your url?

Storytime: my ex friend was in the kitchen with her mother speaking, i was in the dining room. During their conversation they had called what I heard was my name, I said "Whats up?" And they laughed. As they had not said Evan, they had said Oven. And so the url was chosen (I'm pretty sure I changed it? I don't remember what it used to be)

2. Any side blogs? If you have them name them and why you have them.

I have an abandoned one, it was meant for just aesthetic photos for my moodboards or fic inspiration but I saw no point in switching so everything is here in this blog.

3. How long have you been on tumblr?

Since 2014, this has always been my account.

4. Do you have a queue tag?

Nope! Whenever you see me posting I'm actually active!

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

I first got into fandoms and wanted to find a place I belonged. I mean, I was bullied all my life for my interests and never found anyone who shared my interests. I felt absolutely alone so I started a blog here and basically sharing all my interests into one place.

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?

Mine changes constantly but it always matches my header and is always yoongi as he is my lil baby and my ult

7. Why did you choose your header?

My header has always been my favorite game/hyperfixation at the time. Though I eventually stuck to my absolute favorite game, Fragile Dreams: farewell ruins of the moon, and kept a blue theme to match. I think I really like this blue era and will stay with it!

My most popular post is my first fake incorrect quotes post, which was Stray Kids as Things I've Heard People Say in which I compiled quotes I collected of people that year and assigned them to a member (I still collect quotes to this day from people, so if you ever want to heard any for a certain group I'd take requests)

Honestly? All of them? My mutuals are so cool and it honestly feels like those brothers best friend where they're all cool and mysterious, I'm lucky we're mutuals
