YOU DID THE DICKS WITH MACKENZIE! it’s ironic. i set out to expose all the biases in the school. biases that could have led to the expulsion of an innocent student based on reputation instead of facts. but i got a little too close to my subject. and i think you can see here… DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD I WORKED ON THIS? DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY HOURS I SLAVED OVER THIS TRYING TO PROVE YOU INNOCENT? i may have had some biases of my own.

Chaos Walking Review
7/10
As someone who didn’t read the book but expected a Hunger Games/Divergent type film, I really liked the movie. I wouldn’t call it my favorite film, but I’d watch it again.
Feel free to lmk what you think of the film!! (will be tagged chaos walking spoilers!)
**Spoilers under cut**
There were some parts that felt rushed / edited awkwardly, but that honestly could all come down to the shift in directors for the reshoots. There was only one scene that was clearly a reshoot— at the end when Tom’s shirtless because he is way too beefy for his 2017 self.
I really enjoyed how they depicted the Noise. I was thinking that’d be a make or break kind of deal because it could’ve been overwhelming or underwhelming in its depiction, but I think they did it just right.
Speaking of the Noise— Tom should be in a romcom because it’s obvious that he can pull off the awkward, hopeless romantic character. The scene when he thinks about kissing her and then goes and sits in the rain alone had me dying, it was such a good scene. And then to follow that up with when he’s sad and Viola goes “I’m not going to kiss you” to break the tension just made me go !!! because it was so cute. I kind of appreciate that they don’t get together at the end, like there was no forced/awkward make out scene. The hand holding was perfecttt.
Also I appreciate how Todd was such a likeable character but he wasn’t a repeat of Peter Parker. Tom started to get typecast as the friendly, awkward nerd (as seen with like Onward), so I’m glad that Todd was different from that typical character. He was still awkward, still didn’t understand how to talk to girls, but he was different than the typecast.
Harrison’s cameo had me wanting to screammmm. It’s like Harrison cosplaying as Joe Exotic, and tbh I’ve already blocked it out of my memory. Also was he actually talking or did they dub his voice with an American accent? Because they never showed his face while he talked, it was only ever his side profile. I thought Daisy Ridley would have the worst hair in the film (it looked bad in the promo but it was actually good in the film) but nope it was Harrison.
Tom trying to fight Nick Jonas’s character at the beginning was honestly such a great scene. They just played off each other so well, and it actually bums me out that we don’t have more of Tom and Nick interaction irl.
Just a little thing I noticed: in some shots when Tom would jump onto like a rock or something, he’d land like Spider-Man would land. I just thought that was kind of comical that you can see he’s so used to landing in that position that like he does it when he’s not playing Peter Parker. It makes me wonder if those similarities will pop up in Uncharted if he has to stick a landing.
I was not expecting to see Tom’s ass in this film. Everyone talked about his ass in Cherry but in here it’s full ass for comedic relief. The scene itself was hilarious, and I think the ass was a nice touch (the whole theater was laughing).
Did the Preacher die? I feel like that character was a bit muddled. He hates the women and hates dogs but did he die? Did Viola really just set him on fire and poof he disappeared into smoke? Was he the mayor’s noise? I just really don’t know but I think I’d understand better if I read the book— I wish the movie had given a line to explain it.
Also did Ben (is it Ben?) die? I couldn’t tell if he was dying or severely wounded or dead at the end, and Viola doesnt tell Todd anything about him so?? Again, there could’ve been a line to explain it better.
I kind of wish they’d continue the series, but I doubt that they will because it went over budget and Tom probably wouldnt return.
Lastly, I’m a bit upset over how Tom’s treating this film. It’s one thing to dislike the movie you’re a part of, but you still should put on a good front to promote it. He had no excuse to not promo the film other than he personally didn’t want to. No actor/actress loves every work they’re involved in but they promote it and move on. He has the biggest fanbase in the film, so it’s kind of like he set the movie up to fail by not posting about it even once because a regular fan who doesn’t remember a movie from 4+ years ago won’t know about it, even if they follow him on social media. It’s like he didn’t give it a chance after the reshoots (didn’t he say recently he hasn’t seen the final cut?). Yes, he probably has his own personal reasons to not like the film anymore, but, as someone who’s seen a lot of his filmography, I think this is one of his better non-Spider-Man roles. It’s disappointing that he’s treating it so poorly.
