Some villain mocking Miruko by calling her "cute and tiny" would be her berserk button, but she doesn't get like loud angry. She's just quiet for a while and goes "you think it's funny, but I'm literally at the perfect height to take your kneecaps, headbutt you in the stomach and because I'm small, I'm also harder for you to catch me. So, yeah keep laughing and taunting me and maybe I'll take your ankles, too".

Preview:
It has been precisely twenty-four hours since Hunter started officially dating Willow. He had made sure to take note of the time then, when Willow had gently tucked a strand of hair back and then took both his hands into hers, smiling up at him softly.
He wanted to so badly memorize the callouses on her hands, trace every line out with his fingers. There was so much warmth in them, and in her eyes, that he felt like he was being consumed whole by her love. And how he loves her so much too.
“We should date,” she had put it very simply, so straightforwardly. He had misunderstood her countless of times before, she wasn’t going to add onto that number any longer.
And Hunter, ever so eloquent and intelligent with his words, replied with, “Heheheh, mmhughuh.”
She laughed, of course, squeezing his hands tighter, and though the Hunter at that time considered his response a total failure, the Hunter now marking their day-versary thinks her laughter from his non-words was a definite success.
From this point on, nothing matters more than Willow Park’s happiness. He will make sure to serve his duty as a good boyfriend and see to it that she becomes the happiest girl ever. Fortunately enough, he has prepared for this.
There’s nothing you can’t learn about through books. However, only a pathetic idiot would read a self-help book on how to maintain a relationship. They’re way too theory-based, and hardly provide any evidence on results.
The best way to learn something is through experience, which is why Hunter has studied up plenty with romance books. After all, how could a novelist write about romance if they haven’t experienced romance themselves? The results are in the narrative, and they always usually end with a happily ever after.
(Now he’s glad he suffered through the embarrassment of being caught reading one by Darius. With Hunter now actually dating Willow, his initial explanation on wanting to be prepared, which Darius didn’t believe, will finally be proven.)
According to one of his favorites, ‘Aubade’, it’s important to be consistent with communication. The reason of conflict was that the main character, at some point in the story, ceased contact with the love interest, and though their time apart strengthened their love in a longing sense, it still inevitably hurt both parties.
To be honest, if Hunter was the main character, he’d never be wrapped up in that. He will never cease contact with Willow.
“Ohh, looks like we’re going to be in separate classes for General Magic and History,” Willow cross references her letter with Hunter’s, which lists all their new class schedules and rooms.
“Huh?!” Hunter practically smashes his face against Willow’s letter, while Luz and Amity cheer in the background about sharing all of their common classes. “Why would they do this?!”

hi!! i’ve been reading your atla metas and i know there’s been some conspiracy theories about aaron ehasz in the writer’s room, but i think you would be very happy to know that he recently liked a tweet acknowledging how azula and katara are narrative foils in zuko’s life! your meta on that was excellent btw
I think that might've been my tweet tbh! He and I are actually mutuals on twitter cause I mostly post about his show The Dragon Prince (TDP) (which imo makes the preferences pretty clear as a result, but I'll get more to that in a minute) and one of my friends has interviewed him a few times for it
Tumblr media
I bring this up because years ago (well before I was on twitter) he expressed interest in reading a meta I wrote regarding Katara/Aang's romantic development with the main ship of TDP, Callum/Rayla. This was noteworthy because at the time, Callum and Rayla were heavily implied but not actually canon.
The reason I say it makes the preference(s), if they are some, clear is because Callum and Rayla, although not initially planned, have parallels to both Katara and Aang as well as Mai and Zuko:
They are literally Moon, Ocean, and Sky per the show's magic system. Rayla is a Moonshadow elf, linked to life and death, and Callum becomes a Sky and Ocean mage
There are parallels between bloodbending and dark magic (including evil puppetmasters) in which, like how Katara breaks and learns bloodbending to save Aang's life in S3, Callum likewise uses dark magic to save Rayla even after claiming he'd never use it
Rayla and Zuko both leave their partners apologies and goodbye letters before they go on quests they don't want to drag the other person into
"No, I think it's great! You're like a secret hero!" / "It's because Rayla is a hero."
Rayla being a little older and bit of a magical instructor for Callum in a similar manner to how Katara teaches Aang waterbending
[in defense of "you ran away"] "Aang is the bravest person I know. He's done nothing but help people and save lives since I met him!" / [in defense of "you ran away"] "Rayla's brave. She saves people [...] Rayla, you're the most amazing person I've ever met."
Callum and Aang asking Rayla and Katara, respectively, to trust enemies who could be allies (Claudia, Zuko) due to their past history, and the girls reluctantly going along with it
There's also this post again from pre-Callum and Rayla going canon in S3:
Tumblr media
Although there's some overlap perhaps with how Zuko helps Katara in show re: her mother's death, as Callum will be helping Rayla get her parents' back and give closure that way, but it's framed very differently. Whereas Zuko is surprised by how Katara responds to Yon Rha and Aang is ultimately portrayed as the one who knows her better ("You were right about what Katara needed"), the closure Callum offers is more in line with how Aang reaffirms Katara's ability to choose, as Rayla was going to stay behind and die for her parents' perceived failure and has to reevaluate upon finding out the truth:
Katara: But now that I know he's out there, I feel like I don't have a choice. Aang: Katara, you do have a choice.
Rayla: What does this mean? What should I do? Callum: I don't know. But it's your choice. No one else's. Rayla: We should decide together.
There are more parallels, and nothing in TDP is a 1:1 by any means - every character / couple / aspect of the show is its own unique thing - but like... you can see where they're pulling more inspiration from, I think, and I expect there'll be more parallels going into S6-S7 for TDP.

Now that I finished reading (and reviewing) Collateral, I thought I'd come with some questions, if you haven't answered them before! This was the first fic you posted, but was it the first HxL fic idea you had? How did you come up with this particular take on the Ord Mantell mission? Are there any subtle Easter eggs that you had fun including?
Ooh, thank you for asking! Other than a vague idea I started to write down as a preteen that essentially amounted to “Han proposes to Leia the night after the Battle of Endor and I’m sure I’ll come up with an actual plot later”, this was the first fic idea I had. I had written for another much, much smaller fandom in high school, but hadn’t written or read fanfic in probably 15 years or more. I was in severe professional burnout toward the end of 2022, had just sort of re-embraced Star Wars after avoiding it a lot post-TROS, and decided to start reading for my original OTP. I had also been working on a novel for quite a long time and it was driving me insane, so after blazing my way through a ton of Han/Leia fics on FFN, and later on AO3, I thought I might try writing some fanfic just to have fun with writing again since the novel was making me miserable.
I remember coming up with the idea for the Committee first — the intent with at least part of the fic was to suggest that a lot of the stuff Leia and Han say to piss each other off in ESB are kind of low-blow-type callbacks to private jokes or things they had discussed previously. I also remember reflecting a bit on their relationship and how it’s portrayed at the beginning of ESB — how some people have interpreted that to mean that they spent three dang years griping at one another, but somehow fell in love in between verbal jabs. I think I mentioned this in an early author’s note on Collateral — I had a friendship that was mostly verbal sparring and stupid arguments about things neither of us cared about and it stops being fun after awhile. Eventually, we both just kind of started acting normal around one another. And I just kind of figured that, even if Han and Leia started out picking each other apart, there’s no way they’d go from that to romance in a few words, so I felt like they had to have a friendlier history than what we’re shown. (Plus, I may be reading too much into it, but the way Carrie and Harrison play those parts in that movie, it doesn’t seem like two people who just hate each other to me; it seems like two people who’ve been deeply wounded by one another and aren’t sure what they’re supposed to do. And you have to care about each other somewhat to be wounded by one another, ya know?)
I wanted a fic that was limited in scope for my first fic so I wouldn’t get too carried away with trying to add to a meandering plot or whatever, so I decided on the couple of weeks before ESB starts. I had read a handful of fics about Ord Mantell or referencing Ord Mantell and decided I wanted to do my own take on it. I didn’t know a ton of Star Wars lore, so I remember having to research on Wookieepedia a ton. I do believe my initial intent was for Han and Leia to start their romantic relationship on the trip, but the characters misbehaved while I was writing and Leia kissed Han in her room instead, and I ended up going with that.
Even though I knew most H/L fans would be expecting Ord Mantell to go poorly, I wanted to repeatedly put people at ease, at least in theory. The gang isn’t even worried about Ord Mantell, so why should we be? Everything’s going so well! Han and Leia go on a cute date and everything is fine! Basically, if someone went into the story not knowing about the infamy that Ord Mantell has gained in H/L circles, I wanted them to wonder if anything was actually going to go wrong.
As far as Easter eggs go…I wrote Han with the “Han Solo is mildly Force-sensitive” fan theory in mind. It’s not blatant, but it’s there. Some of the conversations they have reference Leia, Princess of Alderaan and From a Certain Point of View (Leia knowing Huttese comes to mind), and I do assume people catch this, but just in case someone didn’t, the final big conversation that Leia and Han have in her office occurs the afternoon before ESB picks up. The sensors she talks about are the same ones he and Luke are placing at the beginning of the movie.
Oh! Wait! I forgot my favorite one. I never come out and say it, and I don’t know if I even ever implied it, but in my mind, the reason the Falcon is in such rough shape at the beginning of ESB is because, after Leia and Han’s interactions go entirely sour, she stops helping with background repairs, which means Han and Chewie have more to do with just the two of them.
This was incredibly long! Hope that’s okay 😂

Theory - Alice is the new avatar for the Bright Pressence
So, a while ago i made a post asking who was leaving rose messeges if not alan, and @ahti-the-janitor wrote thaty they think it was alice.
Tumblr media
it was an interesting angle i haven't consider and it sounded plausible. but the more i started thinking about it, i started to see some parrarels.
in the house of dreams arg we learn that after tom erased himself from history, he and barbara took seperete roles - she became the dark pressence, while he embodied the bright pressence. that is the "tom the diver" form we see him in alan wake, a suit beaming light everywhere. in this form he supposedly guides alan and leaves him manuscript pages to find.
he also communicates with cynthia weaver, and her whole mission for guarding the clicker and checking all the lights has been assigned to her by him, as he "appears on the tv" for her. it's not really explained, but we can guess that there is some way in which he leaves her instructions.
so bright pressence is helping alan and manifesting itself in the real world, contacting individuals and leaving messeges. and these are tings that alice has been doing too.
rose became a succesor of cynthia, the new "lady of the light", as we know, "alan" keeps contacting her, which he denys. We know that she can't be crazy as the instructions she receaves are coorect, for example getting alan the angel lamp which he could not progress without. this suggests that this could be alice since she's the only other person we know in the dark place and she appears to alan in the real world, which means that she can manifsest herself outside it - just as tom did.
as we learn at the end, alice has been guding alan in the dark place for some time, realzing his mistakes and trying to help him escape the spiral. and just as tom has been contacting the lady of the light to help alan, alice has been contacting alice to help him too. as i said, we know alice is capable of projecting herself in the real world so her affecting reallity is not impossible.
so that's why i think alice has manifested herself as the new avatar of the bright pressence. not sure how she did that, but i presume as she did not suffer frequent memory loss as alan she could better map how the dark place works and better learn it's mechanics.
and i think it would greatly parrarel what happened before - tom as light and barbara as the dark. alan's double as the dark and alice as the light. both trying to save their lovers, in a way.

About Laenor... I have a theory
So I’m posting this here. (I had previously only linked it.) Now I had actually written this post up before seeing this episode as I had heard about the very real possibility that this was happening. I want to add some further thought to this now.
Call me crazy, but I have a theory about why the show decided to go in such a massive change of direction with regard to Laenor's death. Before I go into the theory itself, I want to talk a bit about Laenor's "death" and what the faking of it means.
There is the obvious avoidance of the dreaded "burying the gay" trope. Yes, this is a good thing. However, House of the Dragon is not written out of thin air. It is not mined from the imagination of the showrunners, even with whatever changes they make. Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik (for season 01) had the Fire & Blood novel from which to take their cues. And in Fire & Blood, Laenor died. He was murdered. Period. It wasn't Condal, Sapochnik, and HOTD deciding to kill the gays. It was from the source material. In choosing to see a way out of that by faking Laenor's death (and his lover's), yes, the show succeeded in undoing that "burying the gay" trope that was in Fire & Blood...
However, and this is quite a big however in un-killing Laenor, it invalidates Daemon and Rhaenyra's marriage. And that, my friends, is MASSIVE. Because by invalidating Daemon and Rhaenyra's marriage it also makes their children bastards just as much as it made her children with Harwin bastards. And making Daemon and Rhaenyra's children's bastards is BEYOND MASSIVE because it is one of their children who sits on the Iron Throne and which the Targaryen bloodline continues...
All the way to Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow. Uh huh.
So, when Condal and Sapochnik (along with George R.R. Martin perhaps) decided to save Laenor, they had to come up with a way to preserve the validity of Daemon and Rhaenyra's marriage. They had to work overtime, twist the story a bit into knots, adding more layers, more scenes to make it clear that, yes, Daemon and Rhaenyra's marriage is valid. This had to be done, otherwise, nearly two hundred years down the road neither Daenerys nor Jon (nor any Targaryen in-between) has a valid claim to the Iron Throne because again every Targaryen that comes after this current bunch comes through Viserys, Daemon and Rhaenyra's son.
So, yeah, making this change is freaking massive.
And here is where I am adding to my post-episode thoughts. There was nothing added that made any indication that Daemon and Rhaenyra are not actually married since they both know that Laenor is NOT THE DEAD!  Now, I do expect this to come up down the road. It simply has to. I mean...it SIMPLY HAS TO because, otherwise, yeah, it invalidates Daemon and Rhaenyra’s (BEAUTEOUS, JOYOUS, MAGICAL) marriage. And more importantly it makes THEIR chlldren bastards. But, hey...
Maybe that doesn’t matter. Maybe that was the whole point of the Corlys and Rhaenys scene. History doesn’t remember bloodlines (or unsaid in this scene the actual truth of marriages real or not). History remembers the name. And history will know and remember that Laenor is dead. That Daemon and Rhaenyra were married. That their children were legitimate. So, maybe, just maybe it doesn’t matter after all.
Still, still, still... to even go there. To even invalidate Daemon and Rhaenyra’s marriage is a lot, the legitimacy of their marriage. Perhaps then that was it, the why of adding that scene with Corlys and Rhaenys--if the intention was to express/explain why it didn’t matter the invalidity because history will remember what it knows--perhaps that was indeed what I wrote above:
They had to work overtime, twist the story a bit into knots, adding more layers, more scenes to make it clear that, yes, Daemon and Rhaenyra's marriage is valid.
So, I asked myself then, why? Why go to such an extreme to save Laenor? In the scheme of things, he's a minor character. He fathers no children of importance, he's a blip in the story, and holds no emotional or narrative weight. I'm sorry to this man, but it is true. And, yes, the 'bury the gays' trope is awful, and we hate to see it, but that's not on Condal and Sapochnik. It's based on the book, and saving Laenor, again, really mucks things up not only for THIS era, but literally for the entire Targaryen line and history as we know it all the way through to Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow.
Again, it's THAT massive. So, why?
And here is where my theory comes into play. The faking of Laenor's death is being presented NOW in season 01 so that viewers are aware of this possibility, see it in action, know that it can be used, how it can be used and that it works. Why? So that come the end of the Dance of the Dragons when Aegon the Elder tells Septon Eustace to write in his journal that he killed Rhaenyra with his dragon, Sunfyre, and that his nephew, her son, watched it happen, that is what history believes.
Aha! (And, yes, I totes wrote that above line before I watched the episode, ya’ll!) History believes, remembers what it is told. Not just names, but what what is written down. It doesn’t remember blood, it doesn’t remember the events as they happen, but what is written down. It’s like the old saying, history is written by the victors. Which brings me back to my oft repeated mantra: Fire & Blood is an inaccurate historical retelling based on biased accounts collated a century after the fact by another (admitted) biased account. It is not the true story.
We are getting the true story now. History remembers not the truth, but what those who were there tell us was the truth. And we know that story one hundred years later because the archmaester who gave us that history in Fire & Blood knew that from the journals, and from Aegon's retelling.
And we knew that Daemon died because of stories told, but it was rumored that he might have lived. Supposedly to run off with Nettles (hah).
So... perhaps, Rhaenyra and Daemon do live in the end. They both make their way to Dragonstone, but are captured by Aegon the Elder. In exchange for their lives, and the life of their son who will be the safest Targaryen of all as heir to the Iron Throne, they leave Westeros, believed to be dead. Just as Laenor does. Rhaenyra has only this one child left (she believes as no one knew that Viserys still lived). To fight further could risk his life. To fight for the throne would put his life at risk. But *this* would keep him safe.
Even after Aegon the Elder died, and Aegon was named King, to come back would put his life in jeopardy because there would be fighting over the throne from different lords and vassals, and Rhaenyra nor Daemon (one would presume) wouldn’t fight against their child. And so in Essos, they would live, believed to be dead by all in Westeros. Their son gaining the Iron Throne, their bloodline carrying on the Targaryen dynasty.
It would explain the saving of Laenor. And it would also tie into how the show has very been clearly setting up Daemon and Rhaenyra as THE OTP love story of this show. And, boy, oh, boy, did this episode further that narrative like WHOAH!!! Sure, many of us online are aware of how the story ends. Those who have read Fire & Blood are aware. However, there are many who don't know.
Frankly, I find it hard to believe that the showrunners would have gone so far out of their way from scene one to set Daemon and Rhaenyra up as this TRUE LOVE story -- with what happened with Jon and Daenerys on Game of Thrones -- knowing how it ends and how it would greatly upset all of those who would have no clue of their ending.
So, yeah, that is my theory. The Laenor "death fake" is a set-up for a Daemyra "death fake" when their time comes.
One final detail: It was Rhaenyra who gave the opening voiceover in the first episode AFTER the events of the Dance of Dragons. Uh huh.

I know you posted the question four days ago so feel free to ignore this, but thoughts on Candy? (Cartman/Wendy)
No problem! I like asks in general so I don't mind. And sorry for the wait I just wanted to make sure this post was at least semi-comprehensible before I posted. I'm not super confident in what I wrote but I'm posting anyway. This isn't an analysis just rambling.
I've said this before, but I like Candy because I considered it before I considered Kyman (at least, before I genuinely shipped Kyman). While, sure its not "as good" as Kyman, I fucking love their episodes together and I love seeing art of it. Honestly its been a comfort ship for me at times, especially since I love Wendy and Cartman both individually as characters. In fact, Wendy is one of my favorite characters in general. I do ship her more with Stan, as "basic" as it is to ship Stendy, but I'm fine with shipping multiple things at once.
I find it so funny that Wendy killed someone before Cartman ever did; it was just to exaggerate how jealous she was in "Tom's Rhinoplasty" but it does make me like the idea of an AU of them where they're both very sociopathic and horribly codependent. I'd love to see mutually jealous / would kill for each other Candy. But obviously these two versions of their characters didn't exist at the same time, and Wendy has changed a lot as a character since then. I find them entertaining later on regardless.
I do like their plot in "Chef Goes Nanners" in fact its the only reason I revisit that episode. The scenes where they're working together are adorable, and Wendy's "wet dream" kills me 😭
Tumblr media
I kinda feel bad for Cartman at the end, when Wendy admits her feelings vanished after they kiss and he just pretends he's not crushed about it and sadly walks away. But it does help the theory that Cartman very easily develops crushes on people/attaches to people. I'm not great at wording this particular aspect of his character, so I'll move on.
I think this is another one-sided ship though. Wendy...well, is kind of a slut (and I would assume that Cartman calling her one in his book in "Dances with Smurfs" has to do with how heartbroken he was after she kissed him then moved on lol). Later on she genuinely hates Cartman and wants nothing to do with him. Not that I think Cartman loves her or anything, but he likely still finds her attractive. So a lot of my ideas with them as their current characters involves Wendy randomly getting horny for him, leading to her sleeping around with him; maybe it happens when Stan and Wendy are having their 40th break-up of the week or are taking a break from each other (I've gotta give credit where its due, a lot of this is probably influenced by your art). As I mentioned she doesn't like Cartman, so her casually hooking up with Cartman would most likely be a situation where she's thinking more with her clit than her brain...or maybe it would be a hate fuck lmao. Maybe that's OOC though. That all aside, I think they're really cute and funny together. I love characters that are opposites so good to know Trey and I have the same taste in ships.
Sometimes I feel obligated to have ships where I plan on the characters committing to each other romantically, like dating or marriage. But its also fun to imagine them hooking up for the hell of it and that's where I am with Candy. I think people have been shipping it for a long time too (like since Season 1?), but I don't know the full history of this fandom.
TL;DR I like Candy a lot, probably irrationally so.

Actress Sophia Bush comes out, confirms relationship
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/actress-sophia-bush-comes-out-relationship-ashlyn-harris/
Actress Sophia Bush comes out, confirms relationship
Tumblr media
Sophia Bush has come out as queer and confirmed her relationship with retired football player Ashlyn Harris (both above).
The One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D. actress said she “hates the notion of having to come out in 2024″.
But Sophia explained she understands the importance of standing proud in your identity “in a year when we’re seeing the most aggressive attacks on the LGBTQ+ community in modern history.”
Sophia opened up about her sexuality in a personal essay for Glamour Magazine.
“I finally feel like I can breathe, I don’t think I can explain how profound that is,” she wrote.
“I think I’ve always known that my sexuality exists on a spectrum. Right now I think the word that best defines it is queer. I can’t say it without smiling, actually. And that feels pretty great.”
Sophia Bus and Ashlyn Harris finally go official
In August 2023, Sophia divorced husband Grant Hughes after a year of marriage. In her essay, she squashed rumours she and Ashlyn were having an affair before Ashlyn also left her partner Ali Krieger last year.
“It took me 41 years to get here,” Sophia wrote.
“When I take stock of the last few years, I can tell you that I have never operated out of more integrity in my life.
“I hope that’s clear enough for everyone speculating out there, while being as gentle as I possibly can be.”
Sophia said she first met Harris in 2019, but they became close friends last year after their respective splits.
“Maybe it was all fated. Maybe it really is a version of invisible string theory. I don’t really know,” she wrote.
“But I do know that for a sparkly moment I felt like maybe the universe had been conspiring for me.
“That feeling is one I’ll hold on to no matter where things go from here.”
Sophia Bush also shared her mother’s response to a family friend who called her and said, “Well, this can’t be true. I mean, your daughter isn’t gay.”
“My mom felt that it was obvious, from the way her friend emphasised the word, that she meant it judgmentally,” Bush wrote.
“And you know what my mom said? ‘Oh honey, I think she’s pretty gay. And she’s happy.’”

scarlet hollow fan theories as of 12/10
ok! i read some good theories in the tag today and wanted to join in the fun and write down my own thoughts - especially bc i’m like, unnecessarily confident in them and i want bragging rights, lol. spoilers for ep 4 below!
feels fair that i start this post by saying i’d seen the reese-as-werewolf theory in the discord since i s2g ep 1 and thought “that’s funny, y’all are funny,” so you can IMAGINE MY SURPRISE at ep 4. yeah, not technically a werewolf, but A CREATURE! absolutely knocked on my ass.
THAT SAID! FEELIN PRETTY CONFIDENT ABOUT THE REST OF THIS, LOL.
so i wrote my fanfic the sacrifice to get my biggest, earliest theories on paper:
1) the scarlets (enoch, specifically) made a deal with the devil to keep the mine going
2) the seals are part of the deal
3) the seals need blood
4) tabitha killed her mother as part of the sacrifice. it didn’t work, so she’s invited you down so she can try it again.
THIS BEING SAID, i don’t know if even i fully believe that tabitha is/has been planning to kill the player. i don’t know how much i think tabitha killed her mom, even! that’s just the way the story has been leading me to think, and they’re certainly interesting theories to ponder when looking at tabitha’s behavior.
I do firmly believe enoch made a pact with the devil, i firmly believe the seals are part of it, and i firmly believe the seals are activated with blood.
I’ve held these theories since ep 1 into ep 2. now ep 4 has tangled my timeline a bit, and i really need to reread the books on the scarlets in the library for more timeframe clarity. even typing this out, i realized one of my theories conflicts with another one, which i’ll get into below. post-ep 4, my theories are as follows:
1) my initial hunch was that enoch had made a deal with the devil to save the mines and the town. this required blood sacrifice, and led to the creation of the seals, one of the first seals was placed in the Shaw mine. enoch purposefully used the ruined wood to cause a collapse and create an easy sacrifice. however!
2) his brother teddy’s injury was an honest mistake, and enoch’s dealing with the witch is totally unconnected to the original dark deal.
OR!
1) enoch used the ruined wood in typical capitalist fashion: cheaper costs, screw the risks.
2) teddy lost the use of his legs in the mine collapse. enoch, consumed with guilt, went to the witch to make some sort of bargain - both to restore the mine and goodwill in the town, and for his brother’s health.
now, this part works with either option: enoch then lied about teddy’s death in the mines and locked him up in the estate because he couldn’t bear to lose his baby brother. i think whatever agreement he made with the witch gave teddy supernatural powers instead of giving him his legs back.
so, in in ep 3, avery plays teddy. this became clear to me upon a replay before ep 4′s release, where avery says something like they’d use those fine legs and get out of town. oh, i thought, that’s the sentiment of someone who can no longer use their legs. then bam: ep 4, teddy can’t use his legs, enoch says it’ll be fine, and we know the person in the estate could sense edwardine’s pregnancy. thus! teddy is given some sixth sense in exchange for his legs, as part of enoch’s bargain with the witch OR the devil (they could be the same! i’m differentiating them because i don’t think the witch is the cause of ALL the bad things).
assuming i’m correct and the seals need blood, where better else to put another one than in a hospital for people who cough up blood?
i do not know why there’s a seal under town hall (the library). i do believe edwardine had to kill charles jr there, specifically, and that it’s not a coincidence.
i also am leaning toward edwardine doing a lot of the other killings throughout the family history (except for her brothers, i do not think she went with them to kill them on D-Day, or forged those documents, lmao.) i’m VERY interested in the theory that charles jr’s son, andrew, wasn’t actually a stillbirth. i think there’s a reason a lot of the young girls have died in the family. i think there’s a reason your mom was basically driven out of town by the treatment from her family.
additional theories: sybil is the cat, no question. i don’t remember when i started distrusting her - may lean on the side of tooting my own horn and saying even episode 1 because i didn’t like the way she kept secrets and talked about the ditchlings/duke’s death. she’s absolutely controlling kaneeka with the tea, though to what end i’m not sure. i don’t necessarily believe she’s fully sinister but she is absolutely an antagonist.
wayne. my pet theory on wayne now is he’s possessed by the spirit of an earlier scarlet. this is obviously incorrect from the romance option for him, but i’m trying to work out how i could be right without incest lmao. he’s a dead body possessed by a spirit connected to our family.
finally, returning to my fic, i don’t believe there’s a seal in our basement because, from the way the game has been going, we should probably feel connected to it, and we don’t at all. but maybe tabby’s already interacted with it? maybe that’s dulled our interest/pull to it? idk. just wanted to put it out there that i’m pretty sure that’s a bad guess on my end.
i do think we’re gonna find another one in the woods, around where our one relative died while hiking (was that enoch? definitely murdered)
man i just love this game so much, and would LOVE to talk about with anyone, especially if we’re strangers but you made it this whole way through after finding this post in the tag! i love you!

my cousin had come a little in the night – fine morning F54° at 7 5 – writing little paragraph in answer to Miss W-‘s indecision about Lidgate – out at 7 ½ - by Charles Howarth’s into my  walk and an hour  there– then with Pickles or one other till 9 ¾ at which hour breakfast in the little sitting room – my father had printed prospectus of the history and antiquities of Halifax by Mr Edwards Alexander the attorney - Letter 3 pages and ends and 1st page crossed (forwarded by Dr. Belcombe from York) from M- Leamington – very affectionate and very judicious answer to my last – hopes I found Miss W- better ‘Is she une malade imaginaire  because Steph says in speaking of her to me  ‘if Miss Walker was poor she would probably not be sick’ ‘ Has anything passed in reference to the occurrences of last spring, and have you any reason to believe an answer on the same subject, if again required, would be different from that which you received last year. Freddy, since you have been in York, my thoughts have been perpetually full of you  I do love you dearly and fondly come what may my heart is not unfaithful and still as formerly and forever  my joys by yours are known   ‘What you say on the subject of making things answer is I doubt  not true as applied to you, because you have energy of character to do with your mind, what you will

but not one in a thousand could in reality so bend to circumstances - you are one whose practice can be made to accord with your theory, but nevertheless there is no reason why you, with others, should not profit by the maximum of ‘look before you leap.’  - I know quite well, that it would take much more to make you satisfied than you think, for my own feelings have more than once brought the conviction that even now she  who occupied the ‘fairy visions of your youth’ would have new lessons to learn - you won’t allow it, and I know you argue well against it, but your views of domestic life are changed  and I am quite assured the people and things that could have made you happy some years ago, would not do so now, without the help of your ‘I will make it answer’ - that all, and  everything, you undertake may answer will always, dearest Fred, be my earnest prayer - God knows what time may bring to us both, but my visions for the future, do not offer a much brighter prospect than the present presents  - as the last 18 years have passed, so do I expect will be those to come, and the only comfort I have to cling to is, the circumstance that if I have few individual pleasures, I at least enjoy that of doing good to others   There are many who would have been sadly off without me, and in having done good, I can, and do, perpetually find my best consolation.  Should anything under existing contretemps deprive me of this solace, life would be altogether a burthen.’  - How one false step in early life may blast the whole remainder upon days! Poor Mary! She has disappointed me too cruelly;  but her fate, as it was her own making, is more pitiable than mine – the new lessons she would have to learn, are, how to regain my confidence - it was in losing this, she lost the all she now regrets - and  her affection for me now is the forced tribute of esteem - Marian, too, had a letter which she said annoyed her -  on inquiry – It was from Mr George Brearleyrn Terrace Grove Mirfield  to whom I wrote for her the following answer    Sir my sister has just received your letter which she has very properly put into my hands as also a copy of her answer of the third of January to your previous letter which answer ought to have  prevented  your giving her any further trouble  I hope you will deem this communication from me sufficiently  explicit and that you will see the necessity of for bearing either to write again or to call at Shibden Hall on any plea whatever I am sir etc. etc. etc.  A. Lister   Marian much pleased and obliged and being just going to Halifax put it in the post herself  out again at 12 for a little while then came in and wrote all but the last 9 lines of today - out again at 2 and from then to 7 ¼ out with one or other - chiefly with John Booth planting out flowers in my walk then moving large white rose tree, and Persian lilac, and large Aucuba japonica from the terrace to the other side the upper garden door - Mallinson Pickels and his son John and Dick helped to move the latter - In the meantime Mark Town, Mr Jospeh Akroyds’ watchman  came to take the Hanging Hey & Flat Field 11D.W. at £2 the tenant paying all taxes - will come again about them tomorrow -Dinner at 7 ½ - coffee and read till 8 ½  the 2nd series Waldensian Researches from p.382 to 425 - Pickels and his men at the terrace - Mallinson and his man at the chimney (walled (bricked) in my father’s window) Charles and James H- at the cupboard with drawers for the upper buttery and John Booth shifting gravel and soil in the morning and flowers and shrubs in the afternoon - an hour with my aunt -  wrote 3 pages to Miss W- till 11 ½ - very fine day - F55° now at 11 35 pm.

Trump says ‘there’s no way’ Taylor Swift will endorse Biden
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
I signed and was responsible for the Music Modernization Act for Taylor Swift and all other Musical Artists. Joe Biden didn’t do anything for Taylor, and never will. There’s no way she could endorse Crooked Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt President in the History of our Country, and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money. Besides that, I like her boyfriend, Travis, even though he may be a Liberal, and probably can’t stand me!
"Former President Trump on Sunday poured cold water on the idea global superstar Taylor Swift would endorse President Biden amid swirling speculation the incumbent’s campaign team is trying to secure the endorsement of the pop singer.
“I signed and was responsible for the Music Modernization Act for Taylor Swift and all other Musical Artists. Joe Biden didn’t do anything for Taylor, and never will,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Sunday. “There’s no way she could endorse Crooked Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt President in the History of our Country, and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money.”
“Besides that, I like her boyfriend, Travis, even though he may be a Liberal, and probably can’t stand me!” in reference to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who is dating Swift.
Trump was referencing a bill he signed in 2018 that dealt with copyright issues that was seen as a landmark bill for the music industry.
Questions surrounding Swift’s potential involvement in politics were sparked last month after The New York Times released a report that Biden’s aides are vying for the support of the “Shake It Off” singer as the campaign centers its focus on November’s general election. The Times reported the campaign was flooded with suggestions to get Swift’s voice on board, including sending Biden to a stop of Swift’s “Eras Tour.”
Trump’s comment on a potential Swift endorsement comes just hours before Kelce and the Chiefs will square off with the San Francisco 49ers for Super Bowl LVII on Sunday in Las Vegas.
The timing of Swift’s budding relationship with Kelce has prompted swirling conspiracy theories on conservative media. The theories are based on the unfounded idea that the league is rigging games to make sure the pop singer and her boyfriend’s team both make and win the Super Bowl and eventually support Biden’s reelection bid.
The singer has not spoken about endorsing Biden’s 2024 run, but she did voice her support for him during the 2020 presidential election in an interview with V Magazine. An endorsement from Swift could spark a boost in Biden’s numbers, with some pointing to Swift’s single Instagram post last year directing her followers to the nonpartisan, nonprofit Vote.org that led to 35,000 new voter registrations."

My VLD Meta Masterpost
Last Update: 07/14/2024
I’ve written a lot of Voltron analysis over the last few years but some of them are old enough that it’s getting harder for me to search for them whenever I want to either share them with others or go back and re-read what I wrote myself.
So I decided to put together a masterpost of links collecting every piece of analysis I’ve written about Voltron: Legendary Defender up to this point, both here on my main blog, and my sideblog @fandomoverflow. This will contain links to both the posts I’ve written myself, as well as posts that I’ve reblogged and added my own commentary to. Some of the observations made in order analysis change as I learned new information or refined by interpretation of existing info, but I’ve left the original essays as is to preserve my thoughts at the time.
I’ll update this list whenever I post a new meta in the future, so for the sake of keeping this post easily organized, the links to my previous metas will be divided based on main topics, and then listed in the order I posted each one.
Also, I didn’t really understand the importance of preserving fandom history until after Tumblr’s porn ban happened, so unfortunately almost all the meta I posted before Season 8 has been lost because I had a thing about deleting pre-season theories/meta after that season dropped, so anything I wrote before December 14, 2018 unfortunately only exists in people’s reblogs. But if any of my followers have any of my analysis/theories not on this list in their archives as a reblog, please feel free to DM me because I would love to add those to the list if I can find them.
Every meta I’ve written that I still have a link to can be read under the cut, and the post will be updated when I have more links to add:

FreeVLDS8: Posts aimed at specifically analyzing the evidence of executive meddling in Season 8 (and Season 7) to determine what the original pre-meddled version would likely have looked like (largely inspired by the works of Team Purple Lion)
An explanation of the evidence that Lotor’s survival was cut from Season 8 for someone asking about how he died in a reblog of an AU comic. (March 11, 2019)
Alchemist’s and Paladins: my take on a blank spot in @leakinghate‘s breakdown of the exec-ordered changes made to Season 8 where we know what was supposed to happen but not how it would’ve happened. (March 29, 2019)
Dea ex Machina: analysis of how the Paladins were supposed to have caught up to Honerva based on visual clues in previous seasons (May 27, 2019).
My summary of the patterns in how the words and behavior of cast/crew members in interviews points toward Season 8 being the disappointment it was because the IP owner forced the crew to change the story to sell toys and set up his ideas for a sequel, in which I get a little salty at the fact that much of the fandom refuses to believe it in favor of scapegoating the showrunners. Writing Toph Beifong, Advice from a Blind Writer
I’m Mimzy, an actual visually impaired writer and blogger who talks a lot about writing blind characters accurately and sensitively. A while back someone sent me an anon asking how to write Toph more accurately and sensitively.
Anonymous asked: Hi there! Your blog has been super-helpful already - I thought I knew a bit about writing with blind characters, but it turns out there was a lot to learn - but this is more specific. I'm writing a The Last Airbender fanfiction, and one of the characters is Toph. I think the fandom has done a fairly good job of respecting her blindness, but what are some things you'd like to see when people write her? I want to represent the character as best as possible; thanks in advance!
It’s taken a while for me to answer because I have a lot of thoughts about it as both a blind writer and someone who has read a lot of atla fanfiction. So here we go:
Before we get started, I want to mention some things:
One: I have an entire series for writing blind characters that continues to grow with time and the most up-to-date version can be found pinned as the top post on my blog. There will be a time-stamp for when the post was last edited and a long series of links to all relevant posts on the subject.
Here’s a quick link to that post, but again, all you have to do is click my blog url and you’ll find it immediately.
Two: I’ve noticed something amazing about the atla fandom and I would like to thank you for it. I’ve noticed a lot of bloggers have taken to writing image descriptions for both the fanart and memes you post in the fandom, whether it’s OP including the description or another blogger adding it themselves. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a fandom so consistently doing this and that’s incredible. Realizing how many different blogs were picking up this habit has warmed my heart.
I’d like to see writers use her other senses. There’s soooo so much more to her O&M (Orientation and Mobility) than earth sense.
Beyond sight and earth bending, there’s hearing, touch, smell, taste, sense of direction, hot vs cold, sense of pain, sense of where your body parts are in relation to the rest of you, sense of internal well-being, etc. Before Toph had mastery of her earth bending, she had to have mastery of those too.
Toph also must have very strong opinions about certain smells, sounds, tastes, and textures. Toph is opinionated about everything, and when so much of your understanding of the world depends on senses that most people are ignoring in favor of some other sense you don’t have, it gets frustrating. I’m sure that tree looks pretty but the smell is terrible. Who cares if this fabric looks pretty, it’s scratchy, do. not. like. at. all.
But also in positive ways too. Oh, that flower arrangement looks bland and monochromatic? Who cares, it smells sweet and honey-like. Weird dark cavern with high ceiling and no light? The harmonics are awesome.
Every character probably has a certain sight or image they’re particularly fond of: Katara watching snow fall, or Aang enjoying how small the world looks from up on Appa, or Zuko enjoying the sunrise every morning during meditation. In that line, Toph must have some things personal to her that she enjoys.
I imagine she likes the taste of foods familiar to her childhood, the smell of whatever flowers grew around her home, and the texture of certain kinds of dirt Example: loose dirt probably isn’t the best for seeing, but I think she would enjoy how it feels to run her fingers through it or maybe enjoy the way it softens her perception of the world the same way sighted people like to see colorful, bright lights reflecting off puddles in the middle of rain.
If you struggle with this, that’s okay. I recommend taking some time to think about it for yourself, to find what tastes and smells and textures and sounds you enjoy the most, what makes you feel safe and at home, what brings you comfort, and relate that back to Toph.
In a Modern AU, I want to see Toph have a cane. Even in a Modern AU with bending included in the world building, I think Toph would benefit from having a cane.
The cane has a lot more function than bumping into things. A big part is that it signals to others that you are very obviously blind. Which is a big deal because sighted people are really, really bad at spotting the blind person.
(psst, please stop saying ‘the blank look in her eyes’ because I swear to god it’s been killing me inside for years.)
Also, even in an AU with bending, I think Toph would like the advantage of tapping her cane to create a stronger, more distinct vibration than a small shifting of her weight on her feet. It would have more control.
You could give Toph a guide animal, buuuuuuut, um, Toph is not a guide dog person. Like, there are some people who definitely prefer a guide dog, and some people who definitely prefer a cane, and some who definitely prefer no mobility device at all. Toph does not have the vibes of someone who wants to be both responsible and reliant on an animal when she’s so insistent that she can take care of herself on her own. Toph likes animals, but not that much.
Although, yeah, only 10% of the blind community use mobility devices, so cane and guide dog users are the minority of the blind community, but I stand by the vibe that Toph would love the independence of a cane. Also, it’s almost never ever done. Modern AUs never seem to touch much on Toph’s O&M skills with canes or guide dogs.
I wrote a whole post on everything you need to know about canes, what orientation and mobility is, how you learn O&M, what kind of canes exist, how to use them, how to describe the sensory input a cane gives you, and everything I know about guide dogs from past research.
Honestly, you could give Toph (or any blind character) a cane in any AU, because I fully stand by the theory that canes are a piece of technology that has been invented, lost, and reinvented again and again.
I wrote “I found a piece of lost blindness history” a few months ago after a visit to see my grandparents. My grandmother told me how her blind aunt found a way to write letters by hand to send to my grandmother when she was a child. I speculated on how the long cane has probably been invented and then lost and then reinvented over and over again in history, as well as giving a little history on the growing popularity of guide dogs in the 20th century following World War 1.
About the “blank look in her eyes,” I have a theory to the exact cause and nature of Toph’s blindness.
I know it’s common to think that the milky green color of her eyes is why she’s blind, though I’m not sure how many realize that milky green color is caused by severe cataracts. At least, cataracts is what I assume to be the reason for the color of her eyes. However, people with cataracts still have some remaining sense of light and shadow perception.
Only 9% of the blind community is completely blind, seeing absolutely nothing. The rest have some remaining vision, even if that’s only light and shadow perception or the perception of vague movement.
The percentage of people born completely blind is even smaller.
Toph says that she’s never been able to see, which would lead me to guess that the initial cause of her blindness was a defect with the visual processing part of her brain. I also theorize that the cataracts developed slowly over her very formative years and that she likely wasn’t born with them. For that reason, I think it would have taken a few weeks or months for her parents to realize there was something wrong with her eyes.
Here is a post about the developmental years of blind children and how their life would differ from both sighted children and from someone who went blind as an adult.
What is it like to see nothing?
It’s a concept that sighted people struggle with and I completely understand. I myself didn’t understand the concept of “nothing” until someone explained it as this:
“Imagine trying to see out the back of your head.”
Which, genuinely, imagine that. Try that. Because here’s what I found. There’s no part of my body that can help perceive that. I don’t have eyes there, nor do I have a part of my brain that can process that. Because of this, there is no sense of light or dark, no shape or shadow or movement or depth that I can perceive. There is nothing.
And honestly, it gives me a headache trying to think too much about it.
Toph doesn’t see black, doesn’t have a mental image of it. When people talk about light and dark, Toph has nothing to base the concept on. The closest relation she has to that is silence versus sound, or her earth sense when she’s in the air on Appa versus when she’s on solid ground. But it’s not the same.
I would like to examine the way the show tried to describe Toph’s earth sense, that black void with ripples of white stretching from her feet and outwards. Television is a visual medium so of course their explanation of Toph’s earth sense would be visual, but that’s not what it’s actually like in her head. More accurately, it’s like touching the back of your head to something and feeling what’s solid behind it and what has more give. A wall versus a pillow for example. Slamming your hand on a flimsy table and feeling it rattle under your palm. And for someone so adept at using that sense, she feels not just the table surface under her palm, but the individual rattles down the four legs, how uneven those rattles are because the legs are carved decoratively instead of solid planks, and how the foot of each leg bumps against the ground, and how the floor vibrates in response to the impact, which she feels in both her feet and hand.
About Toph’s Relationship with Her Parents
It’s not something I see touched on much. There’s been a lot of focus on Zuko and Azula’s relationship with their parents and the abuse, as well as exploration of Sokka and Katara’s trauma with losing their mother, and Sokka looking up to his warrior father while Katara struggles with her abandonment issues.
Please don’t take this as a critique, because there are a few valid reasons for this and I would like to give you some insight on how to explore Toph’s relationship with her parents.
For starters, the show had a lot more reason to focus on Zuko and Azula’s parents, with Fire Lord Ozai being the primary villain and Zuko’s greatest abuser, and Azula’s dependent worship of her father in response to Ursa’s neglect and favoritism of Zuko, which was likely Ursa’s response to Ozai’s favoritism of Azula. Their parents are huge driving motivators for why Zuko and Azula make the decisions and mistakes they do, why they are at one point in the show the villains themselves. (And why I think Azula should get a redemption arc and some healing.)
Katara’s trauma of losing her mother and blaming herself is a huge factor in both her response to the war, her relationship with her bending, and her motherly nature with her friends. The show has to explore that. Just as it has to explore Sokka’s problems with toxic masculinity in response to being the man of his village, and his desire to be a great warrior and leader like the father he idolizes.
The show needs to explore that to make the plot move forward, and it benefits from these being two sibling sets with different responses to their upbringing and different sibling dynamics, setting them up as foils for each other.
The show also wouldn’t benefit by giving Lao and Poppy Beifong more screen time. Their established character were two nobles who kept as far out of the war as possible and prospered monetarily for it. Poppy was polite and demure and Lao liked to lead the conversation. Unless the gAang decided to return to Toph’s home, those characters had no reason to pop up anywhere in the show. And if they did, they would be a hinder to Toph and her part in the plot as both Aang’s earth bending teacher and as the greatest earth bender in the world, tossing Fire Nation soldiers eight ways to Sunday.
So truly, I understand that there’s not a whole lot of canon material (comparatively) to go off of when developing this, but I will offer some insight on what is there in canon.
Toph’s relationship with her parents is explored in that it maps out why Toph doesn’t want to be mothered by Katara, why she wants to prove how independent she is, but there’s very little on screen interaction between Toph and her parents.
Toph deeply loves her parents. I think that plays into why she doesn’t want Katara mothering her, because she has a wonderful mother at home who she loves and wants to better understand her, but she had no friends growing up and no older sister, which are the roles she needs and wants Katara to fill. If Toph wanted a mother figure, she would have latched onto Katara. Look at how Zuko never sought out another mother figure but did find a father figure in Iroh as he began to heal from his childhood trauma and separate his self image from his father’s acceptance.
Toph is in a complicated situation, she loves her parents but the way they’re raising her is hurting her in the long run. But Toph can see that their actions are because of their immense love for her. She can see how they would do anything for her. While she never had any examples of how other noble children were treated by their parents, who might have been distant or disinterested or always away for their social and work lives, she was remarkably loved by her parents. Her father put careful thought into her tutors and checked in on her progress. Her mother feared for Toph’s emotional state when she was kidnapped (even if she was incorrect about how Toph would respond), showing genuine empathy for her daughter.
I think their over protective nature became the love language Toph best understood them by, and part of her reasoning for not revealing how capable she was, was because she wanted to keep experiencing that love and care for as long as she could. But it’s not a love language she would put up with from anyone else.
I would like to point out Toph’s genuine excitement to see her mom again in the season finale of Book Two, how badly Toph wants her mom to understand and accept her for who she is.
My thoughts on what Toph can’t do: read, swim, see in the sand, fight things mid-air.
For how incredibly powerful the show makes Toph with her earth bending and the O&M she taught herself through it, they do touch on some of her weaknesses when they come up and find a useful way to showcase them.
The Serpent’s Pass was an excellent example of Toph’s vulnerability in water. From her fear of not being able to see on Katara’s ice bridge to not being able to swim and needing Suki to save her, Toph’s weaknesses putting her in danger added to the excitement and “sitting on the edge of your seat” feeling while watching the episode without turning her into someone who was helpless. She was just in a position where her normal defenses were useless.
Just like the earth benders in the metal prison in the ocean, or Katara having little water in the middle of a desert where her friends needed that water to survive more than she needed it to fight, making her vulnerable later in the show when the insect-wasp things attacked. Just like fire benders being weaker at night, or powerless during a solar eclipse, or a sighted person being lost in the dark. Those were just situations in which the tools you were accustomed to relying on could no longer help you or were taken away.
The show was clever in that it didn’t make her inability to read a direct threat to her safety, but rather as a clever plot device for her to be alone when the sand banders attacked and have to choose between fighting them to save Appa, or holding back an entire fricking building by the tiniest spire on its very top from falling into a void leading to the spirit world. It also showed her weakness to not being able to see or fight as well in sand. Which the show later made an effort to show how she’d improved on that problem in Book Three when she was surrounded by nothing but sand at Ember Island.
Like improving her ability to see in the sand, I would like to see a character teach Toph to swim, or at least float, so that she never feels helpless again. If she took the initiative to improve her sand bending so much, I’m sure she would have learn to swim eventually.
And on the note of reading, I’ve seen some speculation on how Toph could learn to read, whether it’s through using ink that has some percentage of earth mixed in, or developing the sensitivity to feel out the different weight, consistency, and texture of ink on paper.
I would like to bring your attention to Louis Braille, the blind Frenchman who invented Braille while studying at  the Institut National des Jeunes Aveugles, the world’s very first school for the blind in Paris France (established 1785). Previously Louis was learning to read through a method in which each letter was pressed into the paper to leave an imprint that someone could feel out with just their fingers.
Louis Braille concluded that raised lettering was impractical because-
1.       It is difficult to read, the letters had to be printed in huge font to be fully felt out and printed on thick paper.
2.       Thick paper means higher quality, more expensive. Larger font means more paper is needed for a single text.
3.       This made it inaccessible due to expense and the sheer volume of a text.
4.       If today’s Braille books are hard to access and giant compared to traditional books, I can’t imagine how inaccessible those raised letter books really were.
The subject of Braille, the start and controversial near downfall to  Institut National des Jeunes Aveugles were discussed in a post about writing a blind character during the Victorian Era.
I’ve heard others complain in the past about fantasy universes in which a sighted person invents a solution to allow the blind to read, when the most effective and longest lived method was invented by a blindman over two hundred years ago and is the standard taught in schools today.
And while I couldn’t easily explain it or how it works because I can neither read Braille nor speak Chinese, I can tell you that Chinese Braille exists and works only slightly differently from the Braille western languages use. So, again, modern AUs especially would benefit from enabling Toph to read Braille and use a computer and phone with screen reader.
But just as easily you could choose not to have her learn to read but rather have sighted people read things aloud to her. Whether it’s in a professional setting as an adult having an assistant who reads and writes for her, or as a cute, fluffy little moment between Toph and another character. Both are just as genuine to the blindness experience.
Blind Jokes
If you ever get around to reading my post about blind jokes, I’d like you to remember that it’s primarily written for people writing original characters and that Toph canonically makes blind jokes, so to take away from that would not be true to her character.
Does Toph’s Earth Sense Negate her Blindness?
It’s a question I’ve seen raised before and discussed by both abled, disabled, and blind people. There are multiple perspectives on it, but my own take on it is that Toph’s earth bending does not negate her blindness, but rather functions very much like the process of learning to use a cane.
She had a tool, a teacher, and she learned to use that tool. Instead of a cane, it was seismic perception and her teacher were blind badger-moles. She spent years learning to earth bend as they do and then continued to take it to new heights as she explored fighting with it on her terms against sighted fighters.
Come to think about it, I would love to see Toph teach another visually impaired or blind earth bender who to see and bend as she does.
Is Toph Good Blindness Representation?
This question was posed to me in the comments of my master post, and my answer was something like this: “Toph is good representation, but she can't be the only type of representation we get. She's the best we had 15 years ago, but there are a million ways to nuance the blindness experiences. Toph's experience being born blind, having very over protective parents, being a small girl in a patriarical and wealth influenced society, having no friends growing up. Those are all great aspects of blindness to show, but there is so much more to explore. As for her blindness and whether or not that's negated, that's also nuanced. She has limits, she's not all-powerful, but she is the best earth bender hands down. More or less, I love Toph, she's a great character, give me like a million more blind characters who are completely different from her.”
I want to see accurate and well-written blind characters become much more common in modern media, and that’s why I started this blog. So if you decide you want to write your own blind character from scratch, feel free to come back and look at some of my other stuff.
End Notes:
I want to thank the anon who sent the original question because it never occurred to me how much the atla fandom would benefit from a post like this.
You should follow my blog. Along with advice about writing blind characters, I write general writing advice and answer questions about writing, college, plot development, character analysis, and living with blindness. Warm Up | Loki x Reader
Tumblr media
A/N: I live!  I write.  Well not really.  I wrote this up a couple days ago and it has been posted on Ao3 and I am finally getting around to getting it up here.  It was inspired by some RPing I do and how the character who is involved with Loki is literally the worst liar ever.  And how fun that would be to play with.  I am hoping to maybe write more with these two.  Oh and basically unedited. I die with my boots on.
Pairing:  Loki x Aesir/Vanir Reader
Summary: Loki is convinced you are in love with him because whenever he talks to you, you are the worst liar ever.  He tests his theory over a dinner.
Warnings; fluff.
THANK YOU FOR READING MY STORIES!!
--
“I don’t know how you can possibly know that, Brother. She has barely spoken two words to you.” Thor commented as both him and Loki headed down one of the palace halls towards dinner.
Loki grinned widely at Thor. “And yet, dear Brother, I am telling you what I say is true. She is hopelessly in love with me.” His eyes softened for a moment as he ponders over you. “It’s all rather adorable. Just watch her and you’ll see.”
Thor chuckled. “I will, if only to prove you wrong.” He pushed the door to the cavernous dining hall open, walked in and immediately locked eyes with you.
Not that you noticed. Your vision closed in the moment your eyes caught sight of Loki. Your cheeks heated from the inside out. Your eyes darted around the room as the two princes make haste towards you. Your rational brain reasoned it is because you are a guest of the palace and they are being polite. The dark corners of your brain, the spot where your overactive imagination lived, ran scenarios of how they were coming over to ask for your hand in marriage, to kick you out of the palace, to quiz you on the history of Asgardian loom weaving. The list goes on and on, and you only snapped back to reality by the deep timbre of Loki’s voice.
“You’re flushed.” His face pasted in an expression of worry. It takes every fiber of self-control and discipline for his mouth not to break out in a huge Cheshire cat grin. “I hope it’s not the Asgardian ale disagreeing with you. If you feel ill, I am more than happy to escort you to the healers.” He reached out and takes your hand.
“Ale? Flushed?” your brain struggled to come up with a plausible reason for your appearance. Anything but the truth. “No! No. I’m fine. I was just… I was just…” Her flight or fight instinct filled in the rest. “… doing jumping jacks!” You fought the urge to wince, not what you wanted to say.
“Jumping jacks?” Loki’s face twisted in a confused expression. “Why in the Nine would you be doing that?”
“To… warm up! For… dinner!” You dived headfirst into the ridiculous lie. “I read somewhere once that having a warm body before eating helps the food digest.” The servants entered with platters of food. “Oh look food, Let’s take our seats.” You took off for your seat, lunging the entire way just to sell the story.
Loki smacked Thor’s chest. “See what I mean? Completely smitten.” he chuckled.
Thor grinned back at Loki. “She is completely something all right. Completely insane.” He grabbed a leg of some unknown animal off a tray and ate it while making his way to his seat.
Loki held up a finger, following behind Thor. “Counterpoint. She’s not insane, but so infatuated she gets flustered when I speak to her.” He chuckled as he sat down. “She is the worst liar. And lunging across the room. She really commits.”
“Whatever you say, Loki.” Thor chuckled.
-
The rest of dinner went relatively smooth. You spent most of the meal chatting with Thor or one of Frigga’s ladies-in-waiting. Just as they served the dessert, your favorite part, Loki leans over the table, his eyes piercing right through you.
“So I need you to settle a debate we are having over here.”
You perked up. “Oh, what about?” you scooped up a large bite of mousse and popped it into your mouth.
Loki smirked. “About the mating practices on Ria.”
Your spoon clattered to the plate. “M.. mating practices?”
“Precisely. Now settle the debate, clothes on or clothes off?”
You pushed away from the table. “I have to go.” You bolted for the door and ran towards your chambers.
Loki wiped his mouth, and with his long stride, soon caught up with you.
“Did I embarrass you? My deepest apologies.” He bowed at the waist as you turned to his voice.
“No! No! Not at all, my prince. I… burned my tongue on dessert. I was going to see the healers.”
Loki chuckled as he stepped towards you. He is soon toe to toe with you. “You are the worst liar, my dear.”
His laugh ignited something inside of you. You stomped your foot against the polished floor. “I am not! I burned my tongue!”
Loki’s chuckle stopped, and his hand wrapped around your waist. “You burned your tongue?”
You nodded. “Absolutely.”
“On chocolate mousse?”
Shit! “A cold burn.”
Loki’s brows raised. “Of course. And you were headed to the healers.”
“Naturally. I mean, I’m injured.”
“Were you taking the scenic route because the healers are that way?” He hooked his thumb over his shoulder.
Your shoulders slumped. “Oh.”
Loki’s lips curled into a smile as he leaned down to whisper in your ear. “You are so adorable when you try to lie. I find it…” You heard his lips smack together. “… irresistible.”
“What—” Loki’s lips pressed against yours stopped the rest of your sentence. You melted for a moment before flattening your hand on his chest and pushing back.
“But you’re the God of Lies and I’m… I’m…”
Loki chuckled and grinned as his grip tightened. “I know. The one person I don’t have to use that power on is you. It’s rather refreshing. And ironic. Come back to dinner. I promise to not fluster you on purpose.”
“Will you kiss me again?”
“I will kiss you as often as you want, darling.” He pecked your lips again as he walked you back to the dining hall.
“Then lead the way.” you giggled as you leaned into his embrace. You were so caught up in everything, you didn’t notice Loki mouth “I told you” to Thor as the two of you re-entered. And if you had, you wouldn’t have cared.

the definitive post of WHERE IN THE WORLD IS JOHNNY SILVERHAND’S BODY?
AKA the post of HERE’S WHY I WANT TO BELIEVE WE ARE GONNA GET JOHNNY’S BODY BACK IN DLC.
buckle up, gamers. it's time for some lore. this is a very long post.
warning: this will contain a million spoilers. both for details of multiple game endings, a wee bit of the “where’s johnny” comic, and the cyberpunk RED book. if you want a sparknotes version this is the post for you. my main source here is the cyberpunk RED book as well as as some references to the cyberpunk 2077 world book to cross examine the lore.
i have no idea if someone has made this post before or what anybody else has been finding in their own lore diving. this is just me documenting my own findings from the sources i’ve been using.
it would be disingenuous not to preface this with the ways in which cyberpunk 2077's telling of the arasaka assault differ from the version told in the TTRPG books. the books =/= the game. pondsmith acknowledges in the intro of RED that this is a bridge between the old cyberpunk world and the new world of cyberpunk 2077.
we also know that johnny's an unreliable narrator and his memories presented to V are often different than real events. but on top of that we don't know if the reason why many elements are changed is simply CDPR editing/adjusting/condensing the storyline for their own canon, or if it's due to johnny's construct being manipulated by outside influences such as arasaka.
some of the main differences you need to know from cyberpunk RED canon:
in 2023 johnny doesn't bring the nukes to arasaka tower. he's solely there to free alt.
johnny and rogue and their team from the atlantis/the aldecaldos are actually hired by morgan blackhand.
morgan blackhand is the one who plants the nuke, unbeknownst to many members of the team.
morgan blackhand promptly disappears after this event and no one knows if he's alive or dead. (claire confirms this fact to jackie and v before the heist in 2077 canon)
johnny's silver cybernetic arm is its own character, separate from himself. it seems to have a mind of its own and johnny interacts with it and/or is influenced by it.
when he, spider murphy, rogue, thompson, shaitan, and a team of los lobos from the aldecaldos (who are there in place of santiago, as he’s busy as the leader of the aldecaldos at this point) are attacked by adam smasher, johnny and his arm actively choose to draw smasher's fire in a deliberately suicidal move. smasher downs him instantly, but the distraction is enough to also save his friends.
spider murphy shoves a mysterious chip in johnny's dying head as they escape that alt had downloaded to her a long time ago.
johnny's body is later "rumoured" to have been retrieved from the rubble by a full-body borg groupie that was a first responder to the ground zero of AHQ and then hidden away in a nearby garage.
here comes the political lore that makes my eyes cross, so hopefully this accurately summarizes it: the 4th corporate war begins to end. arasaka is ultimately blamed by the NUSA government to have nuked themselves in a political move to protect their secrets and promptly banished from the USA. arasaka denies this all the way back to japan, then eventually returns to “liberate” night city in the unification wars.
but what the public doesn't know is that kei, saburo's oldest son, had actually hidden an EVEN BIGGER MORE DEVASTATING NUKE at the bottom of the tower to, well, do exactly what they were being accused of doing, even though blackhand was the one who actually dropped the smaller nuke on them. and luckily the bigger one didn’t go off.
arasaka tries to find their nuke in the rubble so they don't get in even bigger trouble, only to discover that it was moved and hidden away to... surprise! a nearby garage.
to compare with 2077:
in RED: we have no johnny loading the nukes into the elevator. no johnny being carried off the premises. no meeting saburo. no johnny getting soulkilled.
in 2077: there's a parallel moment to RED's version of events right after johnny uploads "liberator" from alt's old cyberdeck with spider's help into the arasaka mainframe in saburo's office. adam smasher comes for him as he's trying to escape, knocking him off the second floor of the atrium into the rock garden below.
visually this is the same atrium we always meet alt in in cyberspace and also where V meets johnny for the first time. hmmm. meaningful, perhaps.
not unlike what happens in RED, johnny unloads a clip into smasher at that point, but from there the scene instantly cuts to him running to the roof attempting to board the AV with rogue, where smasher shoots him down again. it’s possible johnny actually died to smasher in the atrium and we have some fabricated memories going on.
either way, in 2077, we lose the character beat of johnny dying for his friends, and the current-day general consensus from rogue and others is that he’s perpetually a selfish asshole with ulterior motives.
and, just to wrap up the politics of it all: morgan blackhand is rumoured to have been secretly hired by the militech-backed NUSA government to help end the 4th corporate war by... you guessed it! nuking arasaka.
HERE'S WHERE JOHNNY'S BODY ENDS UP IN CYBERPUNK RED (SPARKNOTES VERSION):
RED ends with a story called "black dog" set in 2045. black dog is the last song johnny recorded right before the assault on arasaka tower, but the final copy is a bootleg copy of the song and only a fraction.
we're introduced to a fun group of cybernetic-enhanced characters that represent the classes in the TTRPG and based on/designed by real people in collaboration with CDPR.
this group includes trace santiago, santiago's son, who is a media that is curious about the mystery surrounding the circumstances around his father and the arasaka bombing.
just connecting lore here: if you talk to saul at the aldecaldo camp in 2077, he confirms that santiago was killed for his involvement with johnny and the bombing, something that rogue and johnny reference when they talk about their now-dead crew from the afterlife, and in chippin in, santiago is a friend that johnny lists as someone he had disappointed.
the group sets off to find any info about black dog, and meet up with a full conversion chrome woman named samantha in a garage who is blatantly a johnny silverhand fangirl. trace discovers she has a history with johnny, having rescued him from a studio fire at some point in 2015 and speculates she could have been a groupie also.
she mysteriously has a more complete recording of black dog, though not perfect, and offers to trade it for a service: she wants the group to transport a large crate to a facility in new mexico, asking them not to open it.
shit goes down. evidently everyone in night city wants to kill them for this package once it starts moving. eventually they open it. it's the arasaka nuke that had been hidden and never went off, emblazoned with warnings.
trace inquires about the circumstances surrounding the arasaka assault with an older member of the lobos who had been present with rogue and johnny. the man mentions that it was weird, because morgan blackhand organized the whole thing and then ran off immediately with a mysterious bag that we now know contained the nuke.
michiko arasaka intercepts the gang, explaining the situation around the bigger nuke, that other factions in arasaka want to utilize it for their own goals (presumably hanako and yorinobu) and her father's legacy, that she feels responsible for. she escorts them to new mexico so that the nuke can be dismantled once and for all.
Tumblr media
they meet up with a woman named angel in new mexico that takes the crate from them, at a facility that specializes in nuclear material. she gives the group the full recording of "black dog". the group leaves successful.
this woman is also a johnny silverhand stan. once alone, she calls up samantha, who says, "i promised i would get him to you in the end" and reveals that she had already gutted/dismantled the original nuke and discarded the material into the bay.
angel opens the "nuke" to reveal a hidden cryochamber, and greets the face of the person inside with, "hello, my love."
i mean, holy shit. okay! so that’s DEFINITELY johnny’s body. cool!
now let’s go into all the references to this story in the actual game of cyberpunk 2077 that SUGGEST we are going to pursue this story AND johnny's body since it’s such a HOT FUCKING TOPIC.
and i know many of the following can just be considered easter eggs. but my personal interpretation of this game is that it has a really delightful way of intentionally glossing over important story details—and not by ONLY putting them in shards (which people tend to dislike because lol reading) but by also hiding them in plain sight, constantly deferring to V's own ignorance, distracting us with shallower, shinier things, encouraging us to actually play as the fool hero of this story.
so here's the fun list of “””evidence”””:
this one’s a reach, but fun. in the initial arasaka assault flashback in 2023: we can interact with the groupies at kerry's show as johnny. samantha doesn't appear to be present, but the first person and groupie you can encounter in the flashback has a passing resemblance to angel in that she has a cybernetic arm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in chippin' in, where we go to johnny's "grave" in the oil fields: if we are to take the 2077 retelling of events as truth, the story could instead be pretty easily be changed that samantha procured his body from there.
mike pondsmith, who wrote these stories and created the TTRPG can be heard on the radio narrating various conspiracy theories. and sure, these can just be easter eggs, intended to reference the differences between the TTRPG lore and the game, so take it with a grain of salt:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
johnny. bro. tell him it was morgan blackhand
to top it all off, mike also directly references the actual WORSE nuke arasaka had hid in another arasaka conspiracy:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SPOILERS FOR GAME ENDINGS AHEAD.
in the rogue ending of the game we discover rogue has a son. it's possible her son is trace (edit: nvm NOT LIKELY, since in RED’s black dog story rogue is listed separately from santiago’s mom in conversation) OR possibly one of the other characters. she tells her son to "pull over and look at the stars" or something along those lines. maybe just details, so that screams nomad to me.
Tumblr media
rogue also has a photo of herself and johnny with mike pondsmith in her apartment/office in the afterlife. i initially read this as a delightful cameo but it also can mean mike the CHARACTER knew johnny and rogue, and rogue therefore has some kind of relationship to him and these conspiracies on the radio. and why the fuck not make him a full on character? we have a smattering of streamers and personalities already integrated into quests in the game. the creator of all this should be no exception. fuck it!
rogue and johnny constantly dance around this accusation of her “selling out”. it’s repeated over and over that she and adam smasher worked for "the same people". i'm beginning to wonder if this wasn't meant to imply only arasaka since smasher mysteriously disappeared after the AHQ assault in 2023 and returned to SOMETIMES take jobs from arasaka... but possibly morgan blackhand and/or by extension, the NUSA or any other greater influences. (like nightcorp? we still don’t know where all this shit with nightcorp/the peralezes/sandra dorsett’s discovery about their research into mind control is gonna go) this also doesn’t account for the multiple factions inside arasaka with VERY different motives.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
morgan blackhand and adam smasher are rivals in the TTRPG, a role that appears to be at least partially filled by johnny instead in 2077. in relation to the arasaka factions, it’s worth nothing that smasher specifically works for yorinobu as his bodyguard at the beginning of the game, in part i assume because yorinobu is avoiding working with arasaka security details as he stole the relic and is plotting against his father. he is then promoted to head of security by yorinobu when yorinobu assumes power.
in the ending as you work your way through arasaka tower with rogue and shaitan and johnny, rogue remarks:
Tumblr media
michiko at this point in 2077 is the leader of the more “liberal” faction within arasaka, so it’s possible we’re seeing that while rogue and smasher work for the same people/family, they couldn’t be more different.
you can also encounter rogue more than once on the phone fighting with wakako, who has apparently crossed her. wakako also seems to have her own ulterior motives and works mainly with the arasaka-backed tyger claws. she notably gives v/takemura the parade security info for “play it safe” without asking for anything in return, enabling hanako’s kidnapping. my theory is that yorinobu intentionally leaked the parade info to her to give away to put hanako in danger or at least continue to destabilize arasaka.
in the takemura/devil ending of the game, there is a point where violence breaks out at the arasaka board room meeting when yorinobu-allied security open fire on them. one of the only people that survives along with hanako is michiko arasaka, who was at odds with hanako’s decisions, but  very involved in the preceding discussion.
Tumblr media
and now for is my favorite detail! in the afterlife AT ALL POINTS IN THE GAME (but it can only really be inspected in the rogue ending when we are allowed behind the bar), we can find a photo of the squad that transported johnny's body from samantha to angel on the shelf below johnny's tequila, of them hanging out in front of the afterlife sign:
Tumblr media
this implies rogue has some relationship with them, and sentimentality, if we're to judge by the placement. she maybe even took the picture. i don't know, it's charming, it could be all easter eggs. who fucking knows.
either way, rogue and these kids both have in common that they worked with or at least interacted with michiko arasaka.
and you know what my final evidence is? more wishful thinking! black dog plays on the radio in game. we got a full recorded version of it by refused. if not an oversight, i go ahead and take it to mean the final version was finally released to the public by those kids that were looking for it.
i haven’t the slightest idea how this is gonna wrap up in future DLC. who has johnny’s body now in 2077, decades after it was dropped off in mexico? what is the truth?? where the fuck is morgan blackhand?? from the devil ending, we know that arasaka stole jackie’s body and put his soul into mikoshi, so the idea that they would just toss johnny’s corpse has always been laughable. the “where’s johnny?” promotional comic was even about thompson unsuccessfully trying to find johnny’s body. i know i am biased here but i cannot fathom all this talk about johnny’s body ending off with us NOT finding it, whether it’s just to bury it, shove johnny’s engram back in it, make out with it, or WHATEVER.
if you made it through this slog, congrats. thanks for reading!

Hey, I was wondering if you happen to have any sources that detail what in the hell is up with the history of "queer theory".
I'm a bisexual man in my 20's who grew up in a religious cult in the mid/southwest US, and so—as you can imagine—ignorant people who claim "queer isn't a slur" drive me up the goddamn wall. The fact people have the gall to say that to begin with tells me so much about how they must have grown up and currently live.
I have always hated the popularization of "Queer Studies/Queer History" and "Queer Theory" (and "The Queer Community", of course). The information you provided in your reblog of that user's post cemented my hatred for those terms, but I hadn't heard anything about their origins before. I'd deeply appreciate some sources for your claims or a point in the right direction to find out more about this because...I am now very intrigued.
I’m in a similar boat actually, as an LGBT southerner. I’ve never been in as severe a situation, but I absolutely understand where you’re coming from. I never heard the word used kindly until I went to college and even then…. It was very overly academic virtue signaling or clinical I guess.
As for queer theory, the godparents of the subject, Micheal Foucault and Judith Butler are both their own cans of worms and can be dug into at a later date.
However, the woman who coined queer studies as a term (as well as “homosocial”), Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick had a fixation on male/male relationships and insisted that male friendships had sexual elements. See: her whole career.
Queer theory was credited as being coined by Teresa De Lauretis, who was a contemporary of Foucault, founder of postmodernism and known pedophile. Her original theory is different from the way it is used currently, as it focused on opposing heteronormativity, a distinction between lesbian and gay studies, and focused on the racial bias of sexual preferences. All very fun stuff. Like all critical theory and postmodernism, it is Marxist and annoying.
Queer theory as we know it is very Marxist in the same way because of its inextricable roots and it’s core is subversive and assumes all subversion to be positive. It also takes the social construct approach to all things, including gender, sexuality, and consent. It also assumes because of its Marxist framework that there must always be an oppressed/oppressor divide.
The unfortunate issue with pulling up sources for a lot of this stuff is also because it is a critical theory, which is overly academic for the purposes of obfuscation because if they were to tell you outright that they’re seeking to upset and subvert all social norms of gender and sexuality you’d sure have some questions as to the specifics of that. I would have to wade through heap of essays from these people that I simply do not have the time for at the moment.
A few specifics however are of Gayle Rubin, writer of one of the founding essays of queer theory, who both wrote that gender is socially imposed and that we should seek a gender less society, despite the inherent impossibility of that aspiration, and defended pedophilic practices frequently in her most famous work Thinking Sex: Notes for a Radical Theory of the Politics of Sexuality.
Pat Califia, another big name in the area of queer theory and queer studies published an article in and voiced explicit support of the pedophilic publication Paidika, while simultaneously criticizing federal anti CP/CSEM laws, claiming that the laws “targeted gay men.” He also defended public sex in his essay, Public Sex: The Culture of Radical Sex, where he referred to young questioning men as “young faggots.”
Allen Ginsberg and Micheal Foucault were both active pedophile rapists who targeted young boys and were prominent figures in the queer theory and postmodernism movements, with the former being a literal member of NAMBLA and the latter advocating for the abolishment of age of consent laws and reportedly abusing many boys in Tunisia.
Judith Butler, another prominent figure and someone I even read and analyzed a handful of essays by in college classes, defended incest, claimed that gender is simply performative and a series of behaviors. This is all in her essay Gender Trouble: Gender Identity and the Subversive of Identity. She also claimed that we “need to rethink the category of woman” because of her own apparent insecurities with her gender expression, seeing as she now claims to be nonbinary. She also has referred to LGBT people as “queers” so there’s also that.
I posted this video a while back that goes into some specifics. And honestly this is just the tip of the iceberg.
