oh??? pokemon au???? please take this ask as an opportunity to share more (if you'd like!) >_>
using this as an opportunity to actually flesh out some plot as opposed to me just kind of mindlessly thinking about it earlier-- i have a tendency to always make pokemon AUs regardless of the fandom i'm in because despite not playing many pokemon games im so obsessed with spending hours just looking at different pokemon types and moves and creatures, so.
i think plot wise we would have the classic Phoenix protagonist Edgeworth rival situation, Gregory can be the scientist father who dies at some point idk. Maya is one of the Water (? I feel like) trainers who starts accompanying Phoenix around, etc. you find out later that Edgeworth's adoptive sister, Franziska's, dad is one of the elite 4 who also doubles as Bad Guy Group-- Phoenix ends up defeating him, it ends platonic but over time they both grow up, Edgeworth goes to a different region to become a gym leader and/or scientist and Phoenix becomes a local gym leader (who eventually falls from grace somehow, idk something happens and he stops caring so much about putting up a good fight? idk)
I think w/ the Apollo and co cast we have more liberty to get funky with it since a lot of that earlier stuff is kind of following the generic plots of most PKMN games. TBH I cannot conceive of any real plot here and this is where I start to get more focused on just thinking about the types everyone has.
if i WERE to write a PKMN AU it'd be a few assorted ficlets in that universe or just one one-shot exploring it. I think that Ema is definitely a scientist interested in studying the PKMN who happens to kind of roam around the regions and keeps meeting up with Apollo, first coincidentally but at some point tries purposefully to hang out with him b/c friendship. Klavier is def a rival but I do think it'd be kind of interesting if he was a former Elite 4 or something alongside Kristoph? dunno but I do think that'd be cool.
it's late so I'm just going to kind of skim through a few websites but I want to put some genuine thought into this with different stats and strengths and locations etc, but just basic perspective on types & pokemon
Athena NEEDS an Audino. Then, either a Gallade or Medicham, because I think her having a Psychic + Fighting is very in character. I only think she keeps a few around-- I don't totally know her role yet in terms of this but her and Apollo are besties, naturally, and her and Simon are familial. (Note: Athena with a Mimikyu would be kind of iconic).
For characterization purposes SOMEONE needs an Absol. I think it would be cool if Klavier had one personally but I also could be on board with Edgeworth having one, I think you could take that in a few different directions for both.
I don't totally have reasoning for this but I think Apollo with a Wooper/Quagsire is REALLY funny. As a whole I'd want to give him a fairly diverse range of Pokemon, but leaning towards some of the more common ones, if that makes sense? Think he has a Pidgey evolved along the way, probably a fire/fighting, ground, etc.
The Paynes are known for fighting as a duo and both of them always have a Weezing.
This is a little out there but hear me out: Phoenix with an Abra (evolved along), because it's well established that he's lucky as fuck.
Klavier has a Malamar because I like to think i'm funny. He might also have a Sneasel though. fuck, I didn't want to make him a Dark type that was exactly the opposite of my point but i keep finding really great dark types for him LOL
Simon with a Honchcrow, obviously. Also at least one Dragon type for symbolism, or something.
this is the most fun thing i've done all day but unfortunately i have to sleep early for school tmrw :/ if you have more thoughts sully pls share always such a delight to see u in my inbox and notifs makes me smile lots. sorry for rambling i just have a lot of feelings about pokemon

It takes someone like Klavier to understand Apollo leaving him, abruptly, on the brink of the two of them having something, after Apollo took everyone else away from him and forced him to watch, the ghosts of which he left him with via a seventeen hour flight-
Apollo exhales, louder than the smoke.
It takes someone like Klavier to forgive Apollo, for that.
So, Apollo can understand the wounded parts of Klavier that resent him. He’d be a hypocrite if he didn’t, with everything that Klavier’s been through. Apollo promised to pull him out of the darkness, and he had, but he’d taken the world underneath him and left him in free fall.
(Apollo hopes that Klavier looks over and can tell that Apollo’s been falling alongside him, all this time.)

call it magic (when i’m next to you) [chapter one]
summary: As the long-lost grandson of the illustrious Gramarye family, Apollo already knew his life was going to change for the better and for the worse. After spending his formative years on the run, adjusting to his new place in magical high society was never going to be easy. It’s only when he finds himself locked in a metaphorical - and sometimes literal - dance with Klavier Gavin, both his potential suitor and the bane of his existence, does he realize just how complicated things are about to become.
word count: 3,022
a/n: This fic is a magical ‘verse set in the regency era, where some artistic liberties are taken with the time period to accommodate the story and the magic lore. Most of the details of how this ‘verse works is explained in the fic, but I’ve made an explainer that also includes some image links to characters’ familiars, which can be found here.
Spoiler warning for minor plot points and character relationships in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney and other games, including Investigations and Chronicles. Fic title is from the song Magic by Coldplay.
preview:
“Oh, Mother - we simply must tell Apollo of tomorrow night!” Trucy cried, her eyes shining with delight. “There are so many preparations to be made and so little time to make them.”
“Tomorrow night?” Apollo said curiously. “Grandfather made no mention of such a thing.”
“Your grandfather intends to host a ball at Gramarye Park as a way of formally introducing you to society,” Thalassa explained, her cheeks somewhat flushed with apparent embarrassment. “Believe me, love, I told him it was far too soon, that you needed time to settle in and get your bearings, but Magnifi Gramarye is nothing if not...persistent, to put it kindly. Seeing as you’re his oldest grandchild and of marriageable age, I can only imagine that all of his energies will be spent seeking out your future wife tomorrow night, no matter what any of us do or say.”
Apollo cleared his throat. “...future husband, Mother, i-if it pleases you.”
Thalassa’s eyes widened slightly. “Oh! Of course, darling, forgive me, I should not have presumed such a thing. Well, had you not been raised alongside Prince Nahyuta, your grandfather would have hastened to make the match. But worry not, for there is an abundance of young men of fine upbringing that he would be all too happy to introduce you to.”
“Lord van Zieks the younger is still unwed,” Trucy added unhelpfully before Apollo could interject, as if he had the first idea of who she was speaking of. “But there’s talk of him having deep-seated affections for an old university friend of his, one his family would never let him marry. Perhaps you would have better luck with Lord Blackquill or one of the Lord Gavins!”
Thalassa chuckled, affectionately pinching her daughter’s cheek. “Lord Simon of Hawkstone, you say? He can be gracious and well-spoken, of course, but rather brusque all the same; I should like to see Apollo wed someone who shares his sense of humor.” Her eyes softened then as she cupped Apollo’s face once more. “You should know that your father and I shared many laughs in our brief time together. Not a day goes by where I don’t think of him.”
“I do hope my presence doesn’t disturb you, Mother,” Apollo said softly, having finally found his voice. “I-I would hate to remind you of a love long lost.”
“Only in the very best of ways,” Thalassa murmured, kissing his temples with a feather-light touch.

Is there a family sit-com like AU for ace attorney yet?
God this literally only just hit me and I need to write everything out but it’s waaaay too late for me to do it right now also I so think it would look better if it was drawn but i can’t draw and i am having so many thoughts. LIKE IT FITS PERFECTLY!
Basic idea: Domestic family of Phoenix and Edgeworth (obviously) with their three children Apollo, Athena and Trucy, alongside their pets Pess and Mikeko.
You would have all the stuff needed for all the tropes of a family sit com!!!!
A mean sibling-in-law relationship that seems just plain mean but they end up with a significant and meaningful relationship with their sibling spouse: Franziska von Karma.
Flashback episodes- God you could go any direction. Edgeworth and Phoenix first meeting again and how they ended up in a relationship with the whole DL-6 thing. A flashback of how they adopted each of the children.
A friend character for each of the children: Clay, Jinxie and Juniper.
Hell even if you wanted to copy one of the weird episodes that’s all “one of the spouse’s grows really jealous over the other’s friendship with someone really flirty. Leading to them to feel insecure and the episode ultimately reaffirms that they love each other for themselves”- you would have Shi Long Lang flirting with Edgeworth (and him not really reacting) causing Phoenix to grow jealous and insecure. Fuck, imagine a scene of him trying to copy Lang by like trying to get buff before Athena explains that you can’t get muscular overnight. Then copying his fashion only for Apollo to call him an idiot. Then Trucy being the one to point out that Papa loves you for being you.
Even the trope of one being dumb and the other being competent- that’s just wrightworth babyyyyyyyy! (i mean in an exaggerated way but hells yeah for himbo wright)
It would be beyond easy to do an “episode” of crushes for the kids with Klavier.... and... okay just Klavier but god would the family poke fun at those two while still hoping they get together.
Sorry for rambling but unfortunately I will have more to say on the matter when I have actually slept.

I’m not good at naming fics but Tinne’s social battery is dead and they’re listening to lemon demon to feel better
-
Tinne pulled their legs closer to them, letting their billowy skirt coat their lower legs and provide a little tent over their knees to perch their chin on. The muffled music in the rest of the house echoed alongside lively chatter as the prosecutor scrolled on their phone.
They put a white earbud in their ear and leaned back to stretch their upper torso. As much as they appreciated being invited to such a large party with Klavier and the two lawyer agencies, even parties with close ones would eventually drain an introvert’s social battery. Thankfully, Klavier knew them all too well and let them take refuge in his bedroom. On the floor in front of his bed was where they were sat.
Tinne winced as they heard a surge of sound from the outside approach and leave with the opening and closing of the bedroom door.
“Oh, Tinne, there you are.” An all too familiar voice matched with a familiar face, Justice.
They looked up to him and gave him a small wave in response.
“I heard from Klavier that you’d be up here, the party is a bit much isn’t it?” He spoke with a rather hushed voice to how he usually talked and took a few strides closer to them. “Is it okay if I can sit here with you? I mean, thought you might like the company, rather than sitting here on your own. Only if you want to, of course. Yeah.”
He stammered out his response rather awkwardly, but his expression softened at Tinne nodding and shuffling to the side.
He perched down beside them, one leg straight and the other bent so he could rest his arm on it.
Tinne glanced over their shoulder at him and gave him a small smile. “Thanks, most people don’t try to find me when I hide away at parties.”
Apollo returned the smile, “Well, I guess I’m not most people then, huh.”
Tinne twirled one of their earphone wires in their fingers thoughtfully before offering the man their other bud. “Do you want to have a listen? I’m just listening to some Lemon Demon, if you’ve heard of it.”
Apollo looked to the earbud for a few moments of what could be assumed as awe before taking it, “I uh, sure, yeah I don’t mind that... I think I might’ve heard of that music artist before..? It’ll do me some good to have a rundown. I think.”
Tinne chuckled lightly as they scooted closer to him and pressed play on their phone. Music flowed through the earbuds, something Tinne was comfortably familiar with and something Apollo hadn’t heard before.
He leaned back against the bottom of the bed, trying not to focus on the feeling of having someone like Tinne sat beside him so casually. “Uhm, what is this song called...? It’s interesting.”
Tinne hummed thoughtfully, “It’s called Man-Made Object. I think it’s about a guy who just wants to make a really tall building. The drop is really nice though.” They put up a finger and waved it slightly as the melody arrived, a relaxed smile of satisfaction lingered on their lips.
Apollo nodded, looking to a random part of the lavishly decorated bedroom they were sat in. The two of them shared the time spent listening to the song with a wordless comfort.
Tinne shuffled a little bit in their spot and tilted their head to the side, letting it land on Apollo’s shoulder. “Is this okay with you, Justice?”
Apollo wasn’t exactly thinking straight, so he just hummed gently. Then, after a few seconds, he looked down to his shoulder at where they were and stiffened. “N-yeah, it’s fine, I’m fine, it’s cool.”
Tinne glanced down to their phone, hovering their thumb between the pause and the skip button. “I’ve got other songs here, if you want to listen to them with me for a bit.” They mused, their eyes growing half-lidded and drowsy.
Apollo felt his face heat up as every second passed, but he was smiling stupidly. “That sounds good to me.”
Tinne giggled to themselves and played the next song on their phone, more than happy to share their company with him.

Mini Fanfic #483: Pirate Case Blues (Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney)
2:35 p.m. at a Burger Joint......
Apollo: (Looks Down on his Food in a Sad and Disappointed Expression) ............
Ema: ('Sigh') Alright, Justice. Tell us what's wrong.
Apollo: (Looks up to Ema and the rest of his Friends) What makes you think something's wrong with me to begin with?
Klavier: (Frowns at Apollo a bit Worryingly) Well, for starters, you haven't touched your meal yet.
Wocky: And you look like you actually want to knock someone out. Not that I don't think you could, but.....
Apollo: ('Sigh') Well, you guys aren't completely wrong in that assumption....
Ema: So something DID happened to you earlier today, huh?
Apollo: Yeah.....Long story short, Mr. Wright and Athena, the new recruit in the agency, went to a pirate show in Shipshape Aquarium called "Swashbuckler Spectacular" for investigation. Meanwhile, I was ordered to stay behind and do chore work around the entire office.....
Wocky: For real, man?
Apollo: Yep. I did it all..... Vacuumed the entire room's floor, wiped all of the windows, finished the rest of Mr. Wright's Mountain Top of paperworks, planted Charlie every five minutes.....
Klavier: (Raised an Eyebrow in Confusion) Mr. Wright has a plant.....Named Charlie?
Apollo: Yeah..... Apparently it's the agency's mascot. But out of all the chores I did.....The worst one by far is.....('Sighs Heavily') Bathroom cleaning...........
Ema: (Eyes Widened in a bit of Surprised) You had to clean a Wright's bathroom?
Apollo: Worst.....I had to clean his toilet.....
Wocky: (Almost Choke on his Food) Dead-Ass?!!!
Apollo: Yeah......(Immediately Starts Shuddering in Disgusted) And trust me when I say that it wasn't the only time I had to clean it......
Klavier: I don't follow....Why would Mr. Wright would entrusted you to clean his toilet?
Apollo: That's what I wanted to know!! I've been asking him, non-stop, on why he wants me to do so and everytime, he would always find some way to dodge the question entirely and leave me to do his literal dirty work! And today, really wasn't even an expectation!
Ema: Okay. So if that's the case, does it mean you're upset at Athena too for going to the investigation instead of you?
Apollo: Not all all. In fact, I'm happy she's able to do another investigation today. Athena's been doing a really great job as a lawyer lately and it would be criminal of me to be mad at her for something she didn't even do. I'm more upset with Mr. Wright if anything.... And it's not just because he left me behind to do his chores.
Klavier: It isn't?
Apollo: No. It's.....(Took a Deep Breath before Speaking Again) Sometimes I feel like...... Maybe I'm just.....not good enough to work alongside him.....Even after everything I did to clear his name and get his old job back, I can't help.... but to feel less worthy than I already was.
Klavier: (Starts to Looks Up Once He Saw a Very Familiar Face Standing Behind Apollo) Uh....Herr Forehead?
Apollo: Like my hard work, determination, and even the progress I made so far..... Doesn't matter anymore....At least not to Mr. Wright.....
Ema: Apollo.....
Apollo: And, sure, maybe I am being too negative about this.....And even to myself. I mean.....I did came along way-
Wocky: Hey yo, Justice!!
Apollo: W-What?! What is it?
Ema: Think it's time for you to turn around?
Apollo: (Slowly Starts to Turns Around) Why would you guys want me to-Ah! (Jumps a Little in Fright once He Sees the Person Behind him was None Other Than Trucy Wright) Uhh... Heyyyyyy, Trucy. How's it going?
Trucy: (Frowns Sadly Towards Apollo in Silence) .....................
Apollo: I-I-I was just.....(Chuckles Very Awkwardly While Rubbing Back of his Head Back and Forth) Eating lunch with a group of friends and everything. You know, the same ol', same ol'. Nothing too special, of course.
Klavier: You know.....(Immediately Starts to Get Up From his Seat) I uhh... almost completely forgot that....I have somewhere very important to be right now.
Ema: (Got up From her Seat as Well) Y-Yeah....Me too. E-Even Wocky here has somewhere he needs to go too.
Wocky: (Got up from his Seat Too) I do?
Ema: (Bumps Wocky's Shoulder with Hers)
Wocky: I-I mean, yeah! Yeah.('Heh') I uh....Gotta get back to my pops now. He uhh.... needs something.
Klavier: If you two could kindly excuse us........
Ema: We'll be on our way now.
Wocky: See ya! (Immediately Speed Walk Away from the Table with Klavier and Ema Follow Pursuit)
Apollo: (Watch his Three Friends Sprint Away Before Turning Back to Trucy While Chuckling Awkwardly Again) Busy people, am I right?
Trucy: Polly.
Apollo: ('Sighs in Defeat') I can't keep do this anymore........ I'm really sorry about this, Trucy.
Trucy: Polly.......
Apollo: I-It really wasn't my intention to be a huge downer today or anything. I really appreciate everything your dad done for me last year. I really do!
Trucy: Pollyyyy.......
Apollo: Hell.....I wouldn't be who I am now if it wasn't for you and dad helping me be the best lawyer I can be and-
Trucy: Apollo! (Gently Grab Both of Apollo's Hands and Squeeze Them) Calm down. You're gonna get yourself a headache if you keep this up.
Apollo: You're right. (Takes a Few Deep Breath to Calm Himself Down)
Trucy: That's it. In and out. Just like that...... You're ready to talk now?
Apollo: (Took One More Deep Breath Before Speaking Again) Yeah......Sorry about that.
Trucy: Don't worry, Polly. It's fine. (Giggles a Little) I'm guessing daddy's chores gotten you pretty stressed out earlier, huh?
Apollo: For the most part..........
Trucy: You know, I can totally get where you're coming from all of this. Dealing with daddy's nonsense and whatnot.
Apollo: Seriously?
Trucy: (Happily Nodded) Yep. Though, it's mostly when I was younger. ('Sigh') I remember those days...... Making daddy's breakfast, do some chores around the office, making sure he doesn't get late from a part-time job he used have. Yeah.....I did it all already.....
Apollo: (Chuckles Lightly) You make it sound pretty easy.
Trucy: Trust me, Polly. It was anything BUT easy. Probably because it was me and him at the time.
Apollo: (Immediately Frowns Again) Oh.......Trucy, I-
Trucy: (Place a Finger on top of Apollo's Nose) Upupup! Don't even think about doing it, Apollo.
Apollo: (Very Confused) Doing what exactly?
Trucy: Feeling sorry for us. Sure, daddy and I have been through a lot these past years and everything, but we were always did whatever we can to make it through together, no matter what.
Apollo: (Smiles a Little) That's great, Trucy. Really.
Trucy: Thanks. But I think we're getting way off track here, don'tcha think?
Apollo: ('Sighs in Defeat') Yeah.....
Trucy: (Sighs a Little While Gently Placing her Hand Back on to Apollo's) Listen, I know daddy can be a real handful at times, work or not, but I promise you he means well.
Apollo: I know a-and I believe it too. I just...... Don't wanna feel like I'm slowing you guys down, you know?
Trucy: ('Gasps') Apollo Justice! How could you think something like that?! You're not slowing us down at all! You've made the both of us very proud, even now!
Apollo: You..... Really mean that?
Trucy: Of course I do. I knew should've told you all of this earlier but....A few days ago after you went back home, daddy told me how proud you made him lately and how happy and thankful he was to have you in our agency. He even told me he wants to adopt you one day.....
Apollo: Wait. What?!
Trucy: Okay. Maybe that last one was was exaggerated....But he DID told me you were almost like the son he never had!
Apollo: (Eyes Widened in a bit of a Shock) You're serious?!
Trucy: (Rapidly Nodded) You've changed his life for the better the moment you agreed to joined our agency that day. You were even able to get his job as a lawyer back and everything! That alone is worthy of his thanks and gratitude. Which you clearly deserved, by the way.
Apollo: (Couldn't Believe What He's Hearing Right Now) Wow......I..... honestly had no idea he felt that way about me.....
Trucy: Well, it's the honest truth. He might not show it all the time, but trust me when I say that you really do mean the world to him, Polly. Just as much as you mean to me.
Apollo: Trucy, I......(Slowly But Surely Begins Smiles Sincerely) Can't thank you enough.
Trucy: (Smiles Softly) Hey. There's no need to thank me......Just yet!
Apollo: Huh?
Trucy: (Giggles Softly) Polly, would you like to watch a pirate movie with me back at the office?
Apollo: You actually got yourself a pirate movie?
Trucy: (Smiles Brightly) Yep! It might not be as real as an actual pirate show, but it definitely has a lot more action in comparison.
Apollo: Sweet. You don't mind if I invited Ema and the others to come over and watch it with us, do you?
Trucy: The more the merrier! (Makes her way to Apollo Side of the Seat and Hugs Him) Anything that makes you better again is good enough for me.
Apollo: (Smiles Softly while Ruffling the top of Trucy's Hair) Have I ever tell you how much of a great little sister you are to me lately?
Trucy: (Giggles Softly) Not really. Buuuuuuut I'll be very happy if you keep telling me that a lot more often.
Apollo: (Chuckles Lightly) I'll see what I can do, sis. I love you.
Trucy: I love you too, Polly. (Gives Apollo a Big Kiss on the Cheek) So much.

Actually, I'm wondering something about fAeU mechanics. Specifically, can halflings See blessings/curses? And do they have the Sight by default or must they receive it from a patron?
Clay: “Aren’t halflings the ‘serial numbers filed off don’t sue us for copyright infringement’ D&D versions of hobbits?”
Klavier: “They - what? No. It fits the - the terminology pattern. A changeling is fae, so halfling is half-fae--”
Clay: snerk
Juniper: “Well, what else would you call me? I don’t know what to call me.”
Clay: “I don’t know, I’m just being difficult.”
Apollo: “Don’t look at me I just live with him.”
-
I’m not making fun of you, I promise, it’s just that my brain has also defaulted to “halfling” when it comes to Juniper and her being half-fae, because like, it makes sense, but then this other thought that Clay vocalizes has been living in my brain alongside it, harassing me, and I had to finally exorcise it.
Anyway, to your question:
They do have it by default, but it’s not purely as simple as it sounds. Our two main characters who have the Sight are Phoenix and Klavier, and they both make it seem easy. Klavier might have a little more trouble interpreting what he’s Seeing - not having had a fae princess over his shoulder for a couple years of intensive crash coursing in this bullshit - but neither of them have trouble switching back and forth whenever they want to, or even keeping it up for a while, which Phoenix notes is difficult.
Contrast Vera, who is entirely fae, not half, but doesn’t know it and doesn’t even know she has the Sight, or that she can use it, despite it being built-in for the fae. Even for them, it’s not just automatically “on”. For fae who grow up outside of the fae realm, the Sight doesn’t develop as naturally for them, and it’s something they’d have to work at, whether they’re changelings or half-fae.
Juniper, for example, has grown up aware of her fae blood, but it’s a skill she would’ve had to consciously choose to practice, as opposed to the way that Klavier is naturally adept at it. A halfling who doesn’t know that they’re half-fae would have the same issue as Vera’s changeling situation.
As to whether half-humans have the same perimeters to their Sight as full humans do...honestly, I’m gonna say that’s something that depends. There’s not really much standard for what gets inherited, it’s a crapshoot, and the resulting halfling children can run the gamut from “lucky” to “extremely unfortunate” when it comes to getting the best or worst of both worlds. (Juniper is a little more on the “unfortunate” side, in terms of getting more of the weaknesses from both sides.)

Note
"the thing(s) your muse thinks about before falling asleep." for Franziska, Kay, Klavier, Apollo, and Charley!
Headcanons || ACCEPTING
Franziska
Franziska often falls asleep with whatever her current case is on her mind. Sometimes this is because she falls asleep at her desk because she’s been working for several days straight, others she’s just obsessively turning a case over in her mind in bed.
Kay
The events of the day and what they’ll be doing tomorrow. Sometimes they’ll mull whatever case they’re on over in their mind, but not terribly seriously. Their mind has a habit of wandering. They’re the one who will go to sleep thinking about how the law would work if like a vampire did a crime.
Klavier
On a good night, he’ll go to sleep with half-formed melodies in his head alongside half-formed court arguments. It’s a rather normal and peaceful affair. On worse nights, the lack of distraction will encourage paranoia to dig its claws in. He’ll spend the night all too aware of his doomed relationships.
Apollo
Prior to Wright getting his badge back, Apollo spent most nights thinking about how he’ll keep everything afloat and all he had to accomplish when he woke back up in a few hours. Oftentimes, he’d spend nights nearly sick with anxiety over making sure Trucy would get as normal of a childhood as he could manage and over how well every performance had to go so that he could continue to make money.
Charley
“Ahsoka’s trial still pisses me off. Like… the Republic ain’t got lawyers?! The Senate is the jury? I don’t think all the senators were even there! And I get the Chancellor is Evil™ and that season really put that in the spotlight but like he was an obviously biased judge with that bullshit speech! How was anyone cool with that?! Still, that’s all horseshit and the Republic and Jedi Council can suck my dick.”

friendly arrangements?
my second aa fic, written in august pretty much right after i finished spirit of justice lol
characters: Apollo Justice, Athena Cykes, Klavier Gavin, mentions of both Wrights and the cat Apollo takes in in the aa5 drama cd
1739 words; gen with strongly hinted at klapollo but mostly just awkward-nice conversation; big spoilers for aa6 and the aa5 drama cd, mentioned aa4 spoilers;
two calls apollo makes while looking for a catsitter (link to ao3; fic under cut)
The second day after Dhurke's trial, when most of the Wright Anything Agency was back at home, after a long day of setting up paperwork and cleaning out years of mess from the Sahdmadhi Law Office, Apollo finally sat down and took a moment to unwind. Now almost used to the idea of living in Khura'in again, he remembered a problem that had slipped his mind in the chaos of the past week: there was no one to take care of his cat. After a moment of hesitation, and another moment to check the difference in time zones, he called Athena. She picked up at the third ring. "Apollo! What's up? Are you okay? Everything groovy with your scary new job?" "Hey Athena." His voice was considerably more level than hers. "I'm fine, we fixed up the office some and I talked a bunch with Nahyuta." Athena's peppy 'ooo' sounded tinny through the phone. "Cool beans! Were ya just calling to say how much you miss me already, then?" Her cheeky grin was somehow audible. "Ha ha ha. No, I had a, uh, favor to ask you, actually." Athena stayed quiet except for an expectant hmm, letting him continue. "I kinda, uh, forgot about it until just now but- actually, do you remember the circus case with the cat?" "Hmm? Oh YEAH, that fucker who framed Trucy! Why do you ask?" Apollo pursed his lips at her choice of words. "I never found the owner of that calico I told you guys about, so she's mine now I guess? And I don't know who's gonna feed her and stuff now, so..." Athena gasped at the mention of his cat. "Oh yeah, your girlfriend! How could I forget! Do you want me to take care of her?" "If it's not too much to ask... yeah?" Athena hummed for a moment. "I don't know... birds and cats don't get along, right? It would suck if Taka beat up your girlfriend." "Stop calling her that," Apollo said tiredly. "Right, I forgot Prosecutor Blackquill lives with you now... shit, I don't know who to ask besides you." Athena made a sad sound in the back of her throat. "What about Mr. Wright?" "Yeah, either he'd forget to feed her for a week straight or Trucy would want to try out her new combustion magic on living subjects." His tone was dry. Trucy had slyly suggested trying that particular trick on Apollo several times in the past month, and he was bitter. "Ha! Yeah, you're right, I guess."  They were both quiet for a moment. If Apollo weren't dozing off from exhaustion, he would've suspected the younger attorney of planning some wild idea. "Saaaaaay, Polly," her sudden sing-songy words made him jump a little, "why don't you ask your favorite prosecutor friend?" Apollo stuttered out a "Wh-" which was ignored as she continued, "You know, the handsome charming rock star one that you get worked up over whenever you talk about him? I bet he's GREAT with cats." For a few seconds all he said in response to her ingenious idea was some angry spluttering sounds. "What- why would I ask him that? What do you mean, good with cats??" Athena laughed loudly and said, "He just seems nice! And like he wouldn't mind doing you a favor, ja?" She waggled her eyebrows alongside her excellent impression of Klavier, despite Apollo missing out on the performance. Apollo spluttered into his phone more. The irritation had at least woken him up. "What's that supposed to mean?! Athena!" She giggled. "You said you don't have anyone else to ask, right?" She cut off Apollo's 'But-', continuing with glee, "and if you don't ask him then there's no one to watch your girlfriend, jaaa? Aaaaaand!!! If you don't ask him then I will!" Apollo jumped up from the couch he was lying on. "ATHENA." "Woah, turn down the Chords there, dude. Sensitive ears, remember?" She didn't sound particularly bothered. "Aaaaanyway I've gotta go over to the Prosecutors' Office anyway to get some stuff from Simon later so! You got until lunchtime to call your boyfriend, Polly!" Apollo was pacing now, a scowl on his face. "I feel like this is probably some kind of harassment. I'd tell someo- I'd tell Mr. Wright if I thought he wouldn't just egg you on." Athena gasped theatrically. "I'm just helping a friend take care of his cat!!! And going to have a chat with my second favorite prosecutor about his favorite absent defense attorney!" Apollo grumbled some curses away from the phone mic, then took a deep breath. "So it sounds like you're planning on talking to Prosecutor Gavin today anyway?" "Hmm, yeah! I've decided on it now, and I've never changed my mind about anything." "...Right. And I'm guessing that you're going to talk to him about me whether I call him or not?" Athena's responding 'Duh' was Chords of Steel levels of loud. "What else would we talk about? The weather? Music? Junie? OH!!! Junie... Anyway! Yeah, I'm a gossip machine, Polly! It's a great way to practice analyzing emotions, you know." Apollo ignored her and poked a finger to his forehead as if he were nearing a breakthrough in court. "So if I do call him now, I'll get the leg up on you with whatever you're gonna say!" "Huh?" "Got it. I'll call him right now. Nice talk, Athena." "Uh, yeah! Have fun fixing a whole court system." Apollo hmphed, said a quick goodbye, and asked her to pass on his greetings to Blackquill and the Wrights. He hung up, found Klavier's number in his phone (Trucy had given it to the fop about a year ago, and he texted Apollo periodic congratulations on cases, well-wishes for holidays, and other ridiculous frustrating things), and gave himself a minute to get a glass of water before calling. He picked up after the first ring. "Hallo? Herr Justice? To what do I owe the pleasure?" Apollo bit back surprise at the use of his actual name and irritation at Klavier's smooth voice. "Uh, hi, Prosecutor Gavin. I don't know if you've heard, but I'm not going to be in the country for a while." Klavier hummed in response, "Ja, I heard about the trial in Khura'in through Herr Edgeworth. Sounds like you and Herr Sahdmadhi have had quite the week!" "Uh, yeah." Apollo lost his train of thought for a moment. "A-anyway I have kind of a big favor to ask, and I wouldn't be calling you but Athena can't and I don't know who else I could ask and SHE said to ask you-" Klavier cut him off before his rambling picked up enough speed and volume to rival a freight train. "Woah there, Herr Forehead, what exactly is this momentous task for me? Nothing illegal, I hope." "Of course not!!" Apollo's voice broke, turning louder and squeaky from indignation. "It's just my cat, I don't know who's gonna take care of her and I don't think there's a way to get her to Khura'in any time soon." "Oh! I did not know you had a cat!" He sounded enthused, much more than earlier in the call. "What is the little one's name?" Apollo winced. "Uh. That's kind of a weird story actually, I found her with a collar and at first I was just watching her until I could find the owner, but I never did and I never actually... got around to naming her?" Klavier's voice betrayed an amused smirk. "Then what, pray tell, do you call her, Forehead?" "Uh... Kitty." Klavier muffled a laugh that didn't match up to Apollo's memories of him, shoulders shaking, tossing his head prettily while mocking him from behind the prosecutor's bench. "Kitty! A fitting name indeed! I imagine, then, your favor is simply to take care of the feline Fraulein, ja?" "I... yeah. Is that ok?" Apollo was only half expecting to get this far. The conversation was far more painless than the ordeal he had expected. "Of course!" There was a smile in his voice, a wider more genuine one than his typical pasted-on rock star grin. "I am very fond of cats, after all, and Vongole could use the company during the day." That name sounded old and familiar to Apollo. "Vongole? Wasn't she Kristoph's dog? I... I hadn't even thought about what happened to her." Klavier hmmed. "She has been my dog for quite a while now, and seems much peppier for it." Apollo was for a moment at a loss for words. It had been a very long two days, and he did not feel at all equipped to handle thinking much more about Kristoph. However, Klavier interrupted his anxious reverie: "But! Even the most charming, coolest yellow labrador gets a bit lonely! I'm sure she'll be great friends with Kitty for however long we house her." Apollo startled, both at the offer and at the conversational lifesaver. Ugh, this guy was cool. "R-really, you're okay with this? Just like that?" Klavier hummed a lilting sound like a shrug. "Ach, surely your Kitty is more a blessing than a burden." He paused for just about a second. "And thisis the sort of thing one does for a friend. How should I go about retrieving Miss Kitty, then, Forehead?" Barely resisting the urge to throw his phone across the room or slap himself in the face from the out-of-the-blue declaration of friendship, Apollo said, "I, uh- you can use the spare key to my apartment and just pick her up, I guess? Athena knows how to get there, she said she's going to your office later." "Ah! Fraulein Cykes is always a delight." "Ha, yeah. Um, Kitty doesn't need any special food or anything, she's got her shots and stuff, I found her outside but I keep her indoors 'cause it's safer... Oh, the spare key is under the doormat!" "Cool, cool. I look forward to meeting the little lady." Apollo thought he could hear him smiling again. "She's a great cat! She's only met, uh... Clay and Athena but she's really friendly with strangers! ... Uh, thank you for this, Prosecutor Gavin. It's a lot to do at this kind of notice." Klavier snorted. "Ach, it's nothing! And, the title is a bit much now, ja? Just Klavier is fine." Apollo chewed the inside of his mouth for a second. "Klavier. Thanks."

Some Klavier Gavin meta
I’ve been thinking about Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice a lot lately.  More specifically, about Klavier Gavin’s character arc and where it could have gone if Capcom had decided to develop him past AA:4.
First, I want to set up a couple of parallels.  Let’s take a look at the end of 4-3, where we have this exchange with Lamiroir:
Tumblr media
...
Tumblr media
In other words, although Lamiroir might have possessed the means to be able to see, she lacked the courage to go through with the operation.  She was afraid to face whatever truth was waiting for her until Apollo’s conviction gave her the courage she needed to move forward.
Now let’s take a look at the end of 4-1, when Phoenix says the following about confronting Kristoph:
Tumblr media
In other words, although Phoenix clearly had the courage to confront Kristoph, he initially didn’t have the means to do it.  He needed a courtroom, and he needed a man like Apollo, someone so committed to his convictions that he would fight for justice even at his own expense.
As we learn in 4-4, Klavier harbored suspicions about Kristoph for 7 years, but had ultimately been swallowed by some sort of “darkness”.
Tumblr media
Up until this point, the game has established multiple times that Klavier is a man wholly committed to finding the truth.  He doesn’t seem to hold a grudge against Apollo for exposing his brother’s crimes in 4-1, he graciously “loses” to him in 4-2 because he values a correct verdict over a so-called “win” built on lies, and he assists in getting his best friend indicted for murder once he realizes Daryan is the culprit of 4-3.  It is during this case that he tells Apollo, “...I try to at least remain simple inside. And I keep a simple goal: to discover the truth.”
Apollo reminds him of this fact during their face-off against Kristoph in 4-4, to which Klavier replies, “I couldn't forget what's really important to me, even if I tried.  In fact, I haven't. Not even once.”
Based on these examples, it’s safe to say that a total commitment to truth is one of Klavier’s core, defining traits.  Furthermore, Klavier is fully aware of this fact and regards this commitment to truth as one of his main philosophies in life.
However, he still allowed this uncomfortable thing with Kristoph to fester for seven whole years.  For the better part of a decade, Klavier’s unresolved suspicions rested alongside his core need for truth.  The resulting cognitive dissonance must have been excruciating.
Looking at it from that angle, it’s no wonder he stopped pursuing law full-time, instead pouring a disproportionate amount of energy into what was ultimately supposed to be a hobby.
A lot of people have speculated on why Klavier never went looking for the truth on his own.  Theories range from him refusing to seriously consider that Kristoph could be a criminal, to him being cowed into submission by his manipulative older brother.
It’s true that Klavier wanted to believe that Kristoph didn’t do anything shady before his debut trial, and it’s also pretty clear that Kristoph knows exactly how to make Klavier feel like shit about himself as a means of controlling him.
Boiled down to their simplest components, though, I believe his main reasons parallel with the things Lamiroir and Phoenix needed to move forward with their own problems.
Simply put, Klavier couldn’t fully face the truth and confront his brother because he lacked both the courage and the means to do so.
Tumblr media
And just like Lamiroir and Phoenix, Klavier found exactly what he needed through Apollo’s unwavering conviction in the truth, his fierce intolerance for injustice and his reliable support in the courtroom.
Tumblr media
These aren’t the words of a man who has been forced to swallow the bitter pill of his brother’s guilt after years of wallowing in complete denial.  Rather, Klavier’s relief likely comes from finally being able to act in accordance with his core principles, having found both the courage and the means to confront Kristoph and learn the truth.
Awhile back, some people on Reddit were talking about a hypothetical AA: Investigations 3 with Klavier as the protagonist, and how cool it would be to see him struggle with questions over whether pursuing the truth was worth losing Kristoph and Daryan in the end.
Personally, I don’t think that’s something Klavier ever asks himself.  If Klavier struggled with anything in the aftermath of AA:AJ, I think it would be the fact he was forced to live with these doubts for 7 years of his life.  By the time these issues were resolved, an innocent man (and soon single father) had been stripped of his livelihood and reputation, two people were murdered, a young girl almost died, and the so-called Dark Age of the Law had gone unchecked.
To top it all off, the poor treatment Klavier likely suffered from his increasingly paranoid brother was partly due to the fact that Kristoph couldn’t stand the thought of letting Klavier even think they were equals.  After all, the evidence was originally forged so Kristoph could use it against Klavier.  Kristoph, the man Klavier wanted to believe, always intended to make Klavier think he was inferior to his older brother, when in fact Klavier was the better lawyer, musician and overall person in just about every respect.
In a hypothetical Investigations 3, I’d personally want to see Klavier question whether he even deserves his prosecutor’s badge in the first place.  But instead of running away from his problems, he understands better than most people that “the show must go on”, and so he forces himself to do his job while privately grappling with his personal issues.  Eventually, he comes to accept that doubting whether he’s worthy of the title “prosecutor” must take a backseat to the pressing need for sweeping reforms in the legal system.  As a result, his self doubt is never entirely resolved, but this doubt in himself only strengthens his commitment to finding the truth in even the darkest of places.

Shipping Info!
Tumblr media
Answer the following for your muse(s) so people know how shipping works on your blog. REPOST. Don’t reblog.
WHAT’S YOUR OTP FOR YOUR MUSE?: Well... Apollo has always been my ship for Clay, no question about that. But I also can’t deny that a certain Klavier interpretation has both my own heart and Clay’s, so I suppose that one count as well! OT3 would be cool as well.
WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO RP WHEN IT COMES TO SHIPPING?:  Honestly, anything that I’m already comfortable with. Fluff, angst, domestic, crack, just no nsfw cause I’m a minor, and I can’t get into rough romance cause... I’m terribly inexperienced and I feel weird even finding the words to describe that.
HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?: Ehh.... older than Clay, I’m alright in the 30s but younger than Clay is more a matter of ages, rather than the gap. I won’t oppose muses being 18 or 19, but it’s not happening when they’re at that age. I’m much more comfortable with them being just good ol’ platonic friends for several years.
ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING?: Yes, absolutely, yes, which is probably why I’ve been here for one and a half years and I’m still taking my time. (Oops.) Clay is finicky, plain and simple. He’s finicky and has a lot of inner conflict with himself that has to be resolved, and I don’t want to throw someone into that without knowing what they’ll be getting into.  I like to know the mun behind the screen, and it’s even better if their muse has some growing to do as well.
HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY’RE CONSIDERED NSFW?:  Uhh... if a ship with Clay ever gets that far, (Or, hell, if I even get that far), then... hands above waist, no mention of the sexy bits doing anything. For me, it’s basically a fade to black anyway, so think of it as... the things you’d see in a YA movie or novel.
WHO ARE OTHER MUSES YOU SHIP YOUR MUSE WITH?: Well currently none, cause I got no ships that have actually set sail, srnk. I do have three ships that are... sorta currently being in the works, more or less though, pfffbt. The most deepest (and longest) one I have is with Maddie’s Klavier over at @fotismeni , but she’s currently on hiatus for personal reasons. Then there’s Kay’s Apollo at @snarkiestlawyer who I’m currently slowly making an effort towards, (It takes a while for two best friends to understand their feelings, heh...) and finally, I can’t forget dear Juniper at @valorandgold , who I... haven’t done much with, I’m terribly sorry, Colin. ^^; Promise I haven’t forgotten, though!
DOES ONE HAVE TO ASK TO SHIP WITH YOU?: Ehh... sorta. You can tell me whenever if you’d like to ship, but in the end, it’s chemistry between the muns and the muses that affect the ship. Heck, even I say I wouldn’t mind shipping at the beginning, it’s just a thing to keep in mind, not a true definite, pfffbt.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU LIKE TO SHIP?: I don’t ship often, but it’s definitely not because I don’t like shipping, srnk. It’s just that when I fall for a ship, I fall for it hard, haha~
ARE YOU MULTISHIP?: But of course~ Number 6 should be a good indicator of that!
ARE YOU SHIP OBSESSED OR SHIP MORE-OR-LESS?: Eh.... not too sure what this means.I can fall headfirst into a ship and be obsessed, but I’m not obsessed with shipping as is.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SHIP IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM?: *Points to Number 6* ...And the DeLites. mostly everyone likes the DeLites.
FINALLY, HOW DOES ONE SHIP WITH YOU?: Talk with us! Talk to Clay, talk to me, and tell me more about your muse. Who they are, what their history is, and how they might act. Chemistry is a necessity and the waiting will be long, but it’s both about the journey and the destination when shipping with Clay. I have a story to tell with this guy, and I’d like to share what Clay could grow into alongside the story of their own muse. Also, be prepared for random messages about an idea or a headcanon or an AU or really anything that relates to the ship. You know you’ve got me dedicated when I spend hours on end rambling about anything about them, haha~ And most importantly, just have fun! That’s what I try to do here, after all!

You know, I think I can understand why Capcom kind of dropped Klavier’s development after AA4; unlike pretty much every other prosecutor in the series, Klavier is already a pretty good person when we meet him.
Evidence: He’s fairly polite outside of the “Herr Forehead” thing, helps Apollo out without any concern for his own record at the end of Turnabout Corner, invites him and Trucy to a concert even after losing to Apollo (okay, he did make them pay for part of the ticket price, but still), and unlike everyone but AA1 Miles Edgeworth (who is still a dick before Turnabout Goodbyes, and kind of one in Rise From the Ashes, I love him enough to admit this), he doesn’t fucking throw things at you, whip you, or allow a bird to harass you. He just does the air guitar thing, which, while slightly obnoxious and I still haven’t figured out where the riff is coming from, isn’t all that bad.
Most of the character development prosecutors go through is either become a good person, or get arrested for murder in Von Karma and Godot’s cases. And Klavier is already a good person, so they can’t really put him through the usual character arc. However, I would argue that this still leaves a missed opportunity: writing a nice prosecutor with a shit ton of issues that don’t prevent him from being a perfectly decent fellow.
Outside of what he goes through during the game (i.e his brother and his close friend being murderers and generally unpleasant people), I’d argue that Klavier shows signs of a very troubled and even possibly abusive upbringing. While I headcanon him as having ADHD and connect what appears to be a low threshold for frustration during Turnabout Serenade to that (because I project on my favorites, don’t’cha know), his perfectionism combined with his clear fear response to Kristoph (and Ema’s impression of Kristoph), as well as pretty much everything Kristoph says to him during the trial, reeks of emotional abuse. Klavier is reluctant to allow Kristoph anywhere near him, takes quite a bit of time to stand up to him, and has little to no response to Kristoph acting like he’s five years old with the “You’ve upset my poor brother to the point of uselessness” and “As embarrassing as this is for me to say, I’m afraid my brother is incapable of making rational judgments at the moment” lines. It is clear to me that, regardless of what exact upbringing Klavier may have had (my personal headcanon is that he had loving parents that he lost at age ten, then was raised by Kristoph, but I digress), the relationship between the Gavin brothers is an abusive one, and Klavier doesn’t really get any follow up on that, which annoys the HELL out of me, even putting aside that, alongside Miles and Franziska, he’s my favorite prosecutor.
TL;DR: Klavier recognizing his brother’s abuse and working through his trauma could have been a fantastic, poignant story arc, and instead he’s pretty much dropped completely after AA4, only appearing to be a goofy, charming guy that helps with investigations and/or flirts with Apollo, which, while I do like that, I’d have rather seen him be serious some of the time as well.
But that’s what fanfiction is for, I guess.

/ You know I’ve been thinking to myself about why DD and SOJ feel so disconnected from the series. It’s not just because they’re... subpar (at least in my opinion), and the answer really has to do with Apollo and just how badly he’s being shafted.
In the trilogy, the first game starts out with a trio of characters: Phoenix, Maya, and Edgeworth. The story hinges on Phoenix becoming a lawyer to rescue his childhood friend. He is quickly connected to Maya by being her sister’s protégé, and to Edgeworth by having Edgeworth be the catalyst for his actions.
Phoenix starts off as a guy who becomes a lawyer because he wants to help one person in particular, and the two sequels follow his journey into discovering what he’s actually undertaken; what it actually means to be a defence attorney. Phoenix grows and learns to accept the responsibility of finding the truth, and he does so alongside the rest of his trio: Without Maya or Edgeworth, Phoenix would not be where he is today, and vice versa. All of their backstories and destinies are inextricably linked, and though certain things in their futures seem uncertain, by the third game, Phoenix as the protagonist has completed his arc.
In AAAJ, the same sort of trio is set up; Apollo is a lawyer, and he is connected to two people: Trucy and Klavier. Though Apollo’s story and relationships are different from Phoenix’s, they still accomplish the same kind of connection. Apollo is already related to Trucy, but he becomes attached to her through similar means as Phoenix becomes attached to Maya. Apollo doesn’t have any personal connections to Klavier, but since he was trained by his brother, the two become linked when Apollo helps Klavier take down Kristoph, similar to how Phoenix takes down von Karma for Edgeworth’s sake.
The characters are set up, their backstories are bound, and Apollo’s journey is ready to move to its second stage... But come DD, the title is once again Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, and Apollo is shoved to the wayside.
It’s pretty obvious that the DDSOJ staff does not like Apollo, or else just don’t know what to do with him. This was obviously spotted by the fans and probably complained about vocally enough that the DDSOJ staff heard, so come SOJ they tried to be sneaky. They made Apollo more integral to the story, and had the grand finale hinge on Apollo’s backstory.
So why do DD and SOJ feel so disconnected? Why does Apollo knowing Clay or Dhurke previously without any mention feel out-of-left-field, but Phoenix knowing Dahlia in the same way does not? Because they have fuck all to do with the premise that AJ set up. None of the questions are ever answered, and though Apollo appears in the games, they have nothing to do with his character.
The biggest and most obvious insult are those insane backstory changes; now that I think about it, it’s obvious that the DDSOJ team went “Fuck, Apollo is boring and lawyers are boring in general. In DD, we’re going to make it a spy thriller, and introduce this new character and have it be about her because at least she’s not Apollo. Shit! Her story’s basically over because she basically completed her quest... Let’s make this next game an epic foreign rebel thriller. Um... featuring Apollo.”
The team makes the game they want to make and inserts Apollo into it, rather than making the game about Apollo and building the story around him (And Trucy and Klavier) and his development like they should. DD and SOJ feel disconnected because they’re their own contained storylines; they don’t have an overarching plot or character-development connection that would make them a series.
The reason they don’t focus on Apollo directly is because if they did, they’d have to answer all those loose ends that AAAJ created, and the DDSOJ team obviously don’t want to put time or energy into doing so. The reason Phoenix is the hero again is because his character arc is finished; they can insert Phoenix into the storyline without actually devoting any effort into making him grow as a character. (Obviously noticeable in that when he regains his attorney’s badge, he basically forgets all of his characterization in AAAJ)
It’s lazy and it’s kind of insulting. Just giving Apollo new backstories to make him relevant to the plot proves how much they don’t actually want him in the series, and it’s all but blatantly stated with the reveal of his fate at the end of SOJ.
And I do know about the stinger; oh gosh do I know. But with what we’ve seen already, I highly doubt the team will handle it with any sort of competence.
We’ve all said it a million times before, but dammit; Apollo Justice deserves better.

took my melatonin HOURS ago but then got too into thinking about how i would fix the ace attorney sequel trilogy if given the chance so. here goes lmao under a cut so it doesn’t get crazy long
apollo justice: absolutely perfect start. wouldn’t change a single fucking thing.
aj2: for this one, klavier is still the prosecutor, ema is still the detective, and phoenix is still badgeless. we need more time to get to know the supposed core cast dammit. i’m stupid and can’t write mysteries so i have no real specifics BUT during one case they would introduce clay (maybe he’s in the larry role where apollo has to defend him as a fun continuation of that bit of og pattern) and the final case would end up revealing the truth behind apollo and trucy’s parents. maybe phoenix has to testify for some reason and apollo can sense he’s not telling the whole truth about everything and he breaks and tells them about thalassa. anyway. klavier gets a character arc where he works through all the shit that happened to him in aj, and he ends up stepping away from prosecuting for a while at the end of the game. ema manages to become a forensic scientist right at the end. both of these are important for the third game in the trilogy. oh and also i wanted something to tie it really directly back to aj, like another kristoph machination or a copycat killer, but i’m worried about it just being aj again. w/e i’m not actually making this.
OH MY GOD ALSO IMPORTANT: they don’t forget about the fucking jury system!!!!!!!! like the law does change (probably not in a meaningful mechanical way you’d still have to do cases the same it’s just a “jury verdict” now instead of the judge alone). that was such a huge part of the end of aj and it kills me that they just dropped it even though it wouldn’t have changed much about the games themselves.
aj3: this is just dual destinies with some tweaks, because i did actually like a lot of dd. the focus switches between apollo and athena as they swap out the defense and assistant roles during each case. athena takes point during the tutorial (so apollo can tutor), and takes point again during the last case where apollo is being a fuckin weirdo. obvi that would have to build up a little slower since i want apollo to be present in this game, but it’s generally similar. blackquill and fullbright and all that stays pretty much the same. what else uhh trucy is there just in a slightly reduced capacity (same as the original i guess lmao) and clay’s death actually hits you bc you’ve met clay before in the last game. klavier still helps out with the themis case, and probably makes at least one more minor appearance bc i love him. maybe in the tutorial to also help guide athena? he’s a nice guy he’d do that. better than a payne that’s for sure. anyway yeah at the end apollo says he’s sorry for suspecting athena and mentions something about what a great lawyer she is and how she’s more than capable of standing on her own.
WHICH LEADS INTO ATHENA CYKES: ACE ATTORNEY THAT’S RIGHT THE BATON IS PASSED ONCE AGAIN
i love apollo dearly but if he actually got a decent trilogy arc then i would be okay with him stepping aside to let athena shine. my concept is like. new detective and prosecutor (blackquill is DONE he QUITS fuck the justice system and fuck this he’s on a beach somewhere sipping cocktails and resolutely not thinking about courtroom shit) both of whom are ladies bc i hate gamers and i want them to be big mad. the assistant is none other than dear pearlie fey whom i love and miss and love. my rationale for this is like. 1) she and athena are around the same age so they’d get along well i think 2) every assistant is magic-based in some way and she fits the bill 3) it lets us see a character we haven’t seen since the og trilogy and who was also a child during her initial appearance like i would love to see how pearl’s changed and grown since then 4) i love her okay i just want her back
SO i have much less of a story concept for this one bc there would be new characters to kind of base things around (esp since athena kind of works through her trauma during aj3/dd) but i have this vision of like. phoenix is working towards getting his badge back (since capcom wants to suck his dick so bad fine w/e if you want another beenix trilogy you can have it but only after athena gets a turn) and he’s like ah shit pearlie’s flying in today from khurain but i have a test or something hey athena could you pick her up and keep her entertained. but athena’s like mr wright i have to go to a crime scene for my case and phoenix is like oh that’s fine i used to take her to crime scenes and court all the time she’s cool with it and athena is like. mr wright. why. but she picks pearl up anyway and she helps with the investigation and from then on they’re like Friends and they’re the duo for this trilogy, with an occasional swap-in from apollo and/or trucy. i also want there to be the question of like did phoenix do that on purpose or did he honestly just need athena to pick pearl up bc he double booked himself? The World Will Never Know.
i was also thinking about the seance mechanic in soj and how it’s interesting even though the rest of the game is a trash fire so like. maybe in the time between aj3 and ac:aa (which is maybe like two years?) spirit mediuming has kind of become cool again and is more widely accepted in a court of law so they can still pull off the seance bullshit and use that mechanic alongside pearl’s regular khurain channeling to spice it up some from the original trilogy. it could even be a case in the nebulous realm of aj2 that gets the ball rolling on that.
for the new prosecutor i think she has to be more of an edgeworth type than a klavier type, since athena is very emotional and less serious than apollo so she’d need to counterbalance that. as i was typing the last paragraph i was like oh FUCK what if she’s also a spirit medium from like a different family who’s trying to prove her worth against the fey clan in a public forum. idk how that would work mechanically but i would imagine similarish to nahyuta? like a female version of nahyuta but without the weird stupid family plot bullshit.
WAIT OH NO okay i forgot pearl was in dd!! it’s been too long since i played rip and she was in the bonus case too. like she has met athena already lmaooo. i’m willing to retcon that tho bc the aquarium case was kinda weird and hard to manage without phoenix being there, and also bc she doesn’t really do anything in dd, and also because i say so.
also: Pearl was originally characterized as a snooty rival spirit medium who was about the same age as Maya
took that off her wiki which means there’s some small amount of precedent for my new prosecutor. take that capcom. also i didn’t really mention the detective bc her character doesn’t super matter. it can be whatever lmao. double also all the old main characters make appearances throughout athena’s trilogy but i want to make it so so clear that it’s her shit and while the others might pop in to help out a little or just swing by and mention their own cases so we know they’re still out there, these are athena’s fucking games dammit.
anyway that’s all i’ve really got for now so. lol. i should go to bed.
