Read the chp and I think I didn't find yujo plotline useless or unnecessary at all. I'll explain why. First of all we need to get rid of this idea that gege made yuta possess gojo's body to defeat sukuna.. Nope not at all.. The idea was to increase yuji and co's chances of winning against sukuna by getting rid of sukuna's domain.

We all know sukuna lost his ability to cast domain along with rct and in 249 we were reminded through yuta that he would soon regain it.

I want to remind you all sukuna's domain is an instakill as it not just slashes fucking everything but if by God's mercy you somehow survive that than kamino is there to cook you literally.. And he could spam it as much as he want thanks to his excellent usage of cursed energy .

Sukuna not being able to use his domain was a necessary condition for Juju high to win. As it makes the perfect opportunity for them to attack. .

In chp 258 because of yuji sukuna couldn't recover the rct output but instead got his domain back .... Now what did he do, he attempted to kill all of them. But thanks to todo everybody was saved but choso and yuji. Why???? Because they both were at the center of the domain where sukuna's ce was too strong.. Hence todo couldn't sense them to swap them..

Now yuji and todo has another opportunity to attack sukuna as he is unable to use his ct. But as soon as sukuna regained his ct he went for domain to kill both of them as sukuna can CLOSE the barriers easily preventing todo from using his ct..

Here comes yujo..why?? BECAUSE IT'S ONLY GOJO'S DOMAIN THAT CAN COUNTER SUKUNA'S OPEN BARRIER DOMAIN.. AND TO CAST THAT YUTA TOOK OVER GOJO'S BODY...

and that's exactly what happened he broke the domain which resulted in sukuna ct burnout.. Again giving yuji and todo an opportunity to do the job and thanks to that yuji got close to separating gumi and sukuna's souls...And that was the only reason yujo was there, that's why gege removed him from the fight as soon as he got rid of the domain..

Nobara was also reintroduced at the moment when sukuna was about to use his domain... That's why Gege brought her back at that particular moment and not before...

It is already established in series that sukuna only lost because of his incarnated body and by his own admission the only one who could actually deal the damage to him was only yuji and if I am predicting this right, then it's yuji because of whom they had any real chance to win against sukuna and they planned everything keeping this fact in their mind..
