currently watching/listening to: cryptids iceberg on youtube. however i listen to this vid more than watch it

currently reading: PZHDJAFSVYPS its easier for me to answer how much I have planned to read than to answer this question. okay, i reading jjk manga. but i haven't checked the chapters for two weeks, or three..

@00ff00 tagged me for this, ooh I’m excited, first time being tagged *-* Thanks so much for tagging me :)

(Btw I only played Sims 2 and 3 so I won’t take Sims 4 hoods into consideration despite there being more culturally diverse towns, but I just don’t know them.) 

For everyone’s sanity I figured a “read more” thingy would be proper. 

1) Strangetown

Yes it’s probably almost a cliché at this point, but it’s just a strong first place for me. I’ve always had a bit of a weird obsession with desert landscapes to begin with, but still my love for Strangetown became much bigger in the last year than it was ever before. I love the Storylines here the most, and the Curious family is my all time favorite. And there is always something to ponder in that town, everyone comes up with interesting solutions for mysteries, or with new mysteries and additions and questions. 

It makes me extremely nostalgic for the early 2000s and its specific kind of vibe that was unique to that time, maybe with a pinch of 80s too.  Speaking of 80s, Strangetown has made me addicted to my new favorite band Talking Heads (the “Road to Nowhere” address names are a clear reference, I believe the public swimming pool is too, and I love that. I also started wondering if Olive is a “Psycho Killer”. Are there more Talking Heads references?). 

I also like a lot that Strangetown has a continuation in PSP, and even though it’s a bit hard to connect the dots I enjoy that one can accept it as canon if they so choose. (As someone who loves thinking about headcanons, but finds it hard to pull something from the air, I’m grateful there’s a crazy framework to take advantage of and deduce storylines from.) 

And just because I like to start discussions about these sorts of things and don’t know when I will get the chance to ask this, I believe Strangetown is set in the Sims equivalence of Nevada because of the Area 51 reference. 

2) Twinbrook  

Between 2012 and 2019 I played the Sims 3 a lot but for years didn’t have the Ambitions expansion pack. I bought it in part because I admired the world that came with it so much. And I never looked back, until I returned to the Sims 2 that is lmao. 

Twinbrook is really pretty, but in other parts also grunge af and rundown and I love that. I’ve always liked story settings where there’s sort of a rundown or an industrial part included, and Twinbrook has both. Also besides deserts, I’ve always had a big interest in large, forested swamps. An unique detail about Twinbrook is also that with Seasons installed, the large lake in the middle actually freezes over, which means that sims can technically ice skate over it to get to the other side (and that is very nostalgic to me because the town my grandma lived in also had such a lake that was basically used as a routing alternative by the whole town come winter). 

The thing with Sims 3 hoods is that I barely care about the premades though. I would have placed it lower if it wasn’t for how much I love the world itself, and how unique and versatile it is compared to any other hoods I’m aware of.  I also know that the Curious ancestors come from Twinbrook, but the hood would maybe score just as high without them there. I like the backstory element that the family sort of struggles financially because it may give me more insight on how the Curious siblings grew up later. I don’t really care about Notzo Curious as a character tho, I’m sorry ok? 

I'm not sure where to put this geographically, but it’s possible it’s set in Louisiana? Or maybe Florida (is Glarn Curious a Florida Man????) I’m not an expert in American geography, please help lmao. 

3) Pleasantview 

It was a bit of a hard decision between Twinbrook and Pleasantview, but I put Pleasantview lower because if Twinbrook existed in the Sims 2 I would probably rather play there (decision might be mood dependent though). 

I really love Pleasantview, and it’s the classic Sims hood. As a kid I basically only played there until Apartment Life came out, and I had the first experience of really caring about the premades there. Cassandra Goth has been one of my favorite sims ever, and the Caliente sisters were the first premades that I tried to re-style but still stay relatively true to their original design when I first found out about CC. The Pleasant household was a cultural phenomenon to me, and I remember very well my excitement for the trope of “opposite twins” or “good sister/bad sister”, which was a staple in Emo culture. It was also easier to get used to that hood because with its nice green grass it’s the easiest to get used to. 

For some reason Pleasantview doesn’t have such a strong vibe as Strangetown though imo. Pleasantview is much more “normal” I’d say. Not as strange. 

I used to wonder a lot where this town is supposed to be set, but the Wiki says it’s inspired by a Californian town called “Pleasanton” and so I basically remodelled the surrounding area a little with the help of these yellow-brown hood decoration paint thingies, so that it looks a little bit more dry towards the corners of the maps. 

(Pleasantview may sometimes also feel more like a place 2 tbh, but because I’ve been yearning for Twinbrook lately I had to put that higher, and I’m leaving it that way because I’m already overthinking too much lmao) 

4) Belladonna Cove

This used to be my favorite neighborhood when Apartment Life came out, and even when I reinstalled the Sims 2 it was the first hood I visited for the nostalgia lol. I love its coastal city vibe, and unlike the other main hoods it looks like it’s bordering a large city. I again love the different districts, and here it’s more pronounced than ever before. The secret lot is a fun addition, even though it’s goofy to make it inaccessible in normal gameplay (Thank goodness for camera mods). There is a few premades I really like, especially the DeBateau family, Jessica Peterson, and the Cordial sisters (they’re also a more optimistic view on the opposite sisters trope). 

The reason why it’s relatively low on the list is because I don’t care about it as much as I did as a kid. I got more and more into premades when I returned to the Sims 2 this time around, and in the grander scheme of things, the Base Game premades are the best ones to me, especially because two main hoods are tightly connected. 

I have no idea where the heck to put it geographically. 

5) La Fiesta Tech University

I’m going to admit, I struggled with deciding what to place here. But when I think of the premade sims in LFT I feel like it’s probably one of the most important (sub)hoods to me. There isn’t a single household there’s not at least one iconic character. I also again like the desert landscape, but it has a different interpretation to it. Where Strangetown looks more jumbled together, La Fiesta Tech has a sweet southwestern architecture next to high tech buildings. 

I tried to think about other hoods that could go on place 5 instead, but while I have a strong liking to almost all the Sims 2 hoods, and despite how confusingly many there are in the Sims 3, La Fiesta Tech is the only one that creates that spark in my head, so LFT it is. 

LFT could be located in New Mexico, I think. Although I’m always open for discussion, if anyone even read this far lol. Hello if you did :D
