I impulse bought some hatching eggs local on Craigslist and look how pretty they are! I have one more broody hen for the season and she’s a Big Gal so even as it starts getting chilly I feel confident she can keep her babies warm. I highly doubt I’ll get twelve chicks haha, but I guess we’ll find out in 21 days! Wish her luck!

#farming #i will take a pic of her doing her sitting thing tomorrow #the internet will says dont move a broody hen you’ll ruin everything only do stuff at night etc etc #but it depends and ive found that the hen will often follow the eggs #a hen prone to being broody will see a pile of eggs and almost feel compelled to sit on them haha #idk thats been my experience especially if they dont have any eggs when they go broody #like she slept in the empty top nest box and i was like oh shoot she’s broody but i was obvs taking all the eggs that were laid #and the top box is the most popular so she can Not go broody there or its a major issue #cuz everyone else will be bullied out of using that box #so i put the eggs on the bottom box and showed her and let her be #came back in an hour and she was settled happily #and the top box is free again!#so it may seem silly im hatching more chicks when i dont need more chickens #but its nice to give a broody mom some eggs #and i have a lot of roosters im gonna have to cull soon #aaaaannnddd i freerange my chickens so sometimes they just dont all come home at night so i need to self sustain with more chickens #as much as possible #and like rn i dont have many laying hens #i will soon again haha but it sucks loosing hens and it escalates quickly when they take up to 6 months to grow to egg laying age #so ive gotta keep the babies comin! plus it doesnt get super cold here so nbd #chickens #eggs
