stories you want to write...
...but for some reason haven’t yet.
tagged by: @to-the-voiceless!!! thank you cyan for giving me the opportunity to dump out my slightly dusty idea doc onto everyone’s dash sdgsndfnsdfn
tagging: hmmm... @windupnamazu (double tag yes yes) @whitherliliesbloom @windup-dragoon @heirsofdiscord @ancientechos and you! as you can see, i like fic concepts >:3c
1) okay, so. there’s a section of my idea doc that’s labeled ‘azim steppe shenanigans’ because i Can and Will rewrite as much of the azim steppe MSQ as i please including characterization (yes i’m looking at magnai) ANYWAYS. top idea of the list, which is also the one i want to write The Most, is the naadam duty rewrite! catch me on the ‘why is the wol the khagan of a land they probably don’t even belong to’ train, more news on how zaya and oktai beat up hien at 11. or whenever i get around to writing it since it has Combat and i’m. not the best at it. honorable mentions to the pre-canon sadu, magnai, and zaya tearing through bardam’s mettle fic and the solar eclipse remix that i don’t currently have the energy for ;W; sorry oktai and magnai you’ll have to reside in “are we actually. dating.” hell for a bit longer
2) second on this list is the ‘ysayle lives’ fic!!! honestly there is a whole ass series sitting in my idea doc that also includes moenbryda, papalymo, and maaaybe bad-end flavored minfilia lives? but the ysayle one is like. 60% done but i need to trash and restart since i don’t. like it that much. highlights include: ysayle but a little more dragon flavored, separation of iceheart vs. ysayle, and gratuitous earth imagery versus the ice of coerthas
oh god okay im sticking the rest under a cut this got. Long
3) there is also a section of my doc labeled ‘angst elie isn’t allowed to have as a treat’ because at this point all of mom squad deserves to swing a bat straight for my head, buuut the idea i’m looking at is lightwarden au related! funtimes. ehsk al, anyone? (yes that means either promised love or love’s promise in dragonspeak. yes there’s a reason for this.) the line keeping this idea’s spot is: “ thancred climbs up mt. gulg one final time to meet the mourning dragon.” :)))
4) i want to go more into the various different cultures of my wols!!! i detest the lack of ala mhigan lore (monk lore too. i’m Salty about SB) which is why i haven’t gone into dewah’s family that much but i have an idea and some minor worldbuilding in the making? there’s also lumelle, whose emotions on ishgard are (as all emotions are) complicated, and zaya, who hasn’t been home in a literal decade give or take. i have to think real hard for it tho sdgnsdfsd that’s why they’ve been collecting dust for months.
4.1) the amount of hrothgar and viera lore is also criminal. don’t make me homebrew more lore squeenix give us Actual Lore. duscha and valdis deserve More.
5) okay i. i am very embarrassed by this but i have a longfic draft for a fic that at this point legally has to be tagged “slow burn, if by slow burn you mean 18 years” whenever i finish enough to be able to start posting it and YES ITS ZAYA AND THANCRED.
yeah. i know. this has been haunting me since ffxivwrite last year-ish. it is also very D U S T Y but it has about 15 different ideas i’ve just mass dumped into it and i despise it and myself. additionally some ardbert feelings slipped into the SHB bits and i’m. maybe unrequited ardbert/zaya.... mayhaps
6) i love carbuncles and i love dt’s writing about the carbuncles which may have led to the thought bunny “what if: black opal carbuncle for zaya’s nameday” and it has haunted me but since zaya’s nameday in real time was a day off from the 5.3 drop it promptly got buried under all the ideas i got from 5.3
7) SPEAKING OF 5.3 CONTENT: carmela predicted correctly that i would like the ‘you’re a long way from home, moogle’ interaction you get if you choose the option that has kupo when talking with thancred and i’m possessed. i want to write something surrounding zaya’s honorary postmoogle title and thancred finding out they spent three weeks delivering eorzea’s mail.... there’s a bunch of canon rewrites but for multiple WOLs i’d like to do but i’m Tired
8) rhmrhrr.... AU time! main street au is still haunting my bones and i want to write more because mom squad spent like. an hour talking about how it’s just like dime store romance fiction amassed into an entire au and there’s a certain flowershop romance i need to write >:3 there’s also the ol’ CHB AU hanging around Somewhere and a very small part of me that craves to keep writing hanahaki au which is just slowburn 2.0
9) OH WAIT. i have Exactly One idea that’s mostly npc-based which is just me having feelings about the going-ons of norvrandt before the WOL is summoned, mostly revolving around ryne/baby-filia which i think? will have four parts? it’s really just me worldbuilding with norvrandt and having a great time. i scribbled down a beginning to try and shake off some rust (it did not really work) but:
10) honorable mention goes to the ‘zaya, thancred, and co. give ryne a nameday celebration despite her not really having a nameday’ idea and to this, which never fails to give me a chuckle when i read it in my idea doc:
#tag meme#i. guess that works#yasshoi my dudes#i will reboot my queue sometime this week. i hope.#im really tired and the chaos i woke up to on sunday Really Didn't Help

sliding doors (1/1) [ posted 12 January 2020 ]
For every person, there comes a moment, seemingly unimportant and inconsequential, that can forever change the rest of their lives.
For John Sheppard, this moment has always been just waiting for him. The question is whether or not he takes it, and how long he has until it finally gives up on him.
This one was inspired by the JJ x Reid plot twist in Criminal Minds (CM). I grew up watching CM, so it made perfect sense in my head to mix the shows together. It also seemed fitting, since post-series McShep looks to be heading towards a similar storyline with what happened to JJ and Reid. Sometimes, two people just aren’t going to end up together, feelings and regrets and longing notwithstanding :(
edge of a precipice (1/1) [ posted 5 June 2020 ]
There’s a reason why John never crosses the line.
I just really had to practice writing Pining!John (and John voice). That’s it; no other excuse. I also wanted to see if I can write a first kiss between them that makes sense in my head, one that can happen organically. It ended up a little too melancholic for my taste, but I’m glad I got to put it down.
archimedes in love (1/1) [ posted 20 June 2020 ]
John is trying to make things easier for the both of them.
Rodney, it turns out, has never really learned to do anything the easy way.
This was really difficult to write, not only because doing Rodney POV requires so much brainpower and vocabulary (as opposed to John voice, which is an exercise in casual and practiced emotional restraint) but also because I wanted angst, but not too much, you know? (This was also when I noticed I tended to daydream about post-canon scenarios. Seriously, show. You ended way too soon.) I’m pretty happy with the result, though, even if it wasn’t exactly how I pictured it would be when I started it.
off the record (1/1) [ posted 17 July 2020 ]
“I’m drunk,” Rodney declares, knowing that resistance is futile with Tower 5-C already listing ten degrees to the right.
“Yeah?” There’s a serious note to Sheppard’s voice, prompting Rodney to turn and face him. Blinking slowly, he finds the other man’s gaze fixed on something just above Rodney’s left ear. When Sheppard speaks again, the sound comes out almost ominous. “Good.”
(Or: Rodney and John share a bottle of Athosian ruus wine, and talk about things they won’t remember in the morning.)
My favorite one-shot title! Also inspired by that sweet-but-gutting scene from Crash Landing On You, where the leads had a drinking session and allowed themselves to be honest under the guise of not being able to remember anything the next day. What can I say, I love angst. Nothing new.
maybe next time (1/1) [ posted 28 July 2020 ]
Unbeknownst to the two of them, there had been five times when Rodney and John almost met.
I surprised myself with how quickly I wrote this. One sitting, about two hours tops. This was a fun little exercise for me, with the canon details I had to incorporate to make it realistic. Also pretty proud of the title ;)
in retrospect (1/1) [ posted 28 November 2020 ]
Tony Stark owes someone an apology, but finding the guts to say sorry is proving to be the least of his problems.
Always wanted to do my own MCU fusion after reading Siria’s The Things We Did and Didn't Do. (Read it if you guys haven’t yet!) It’s going to be a series, with heavy emphasis on Rodney & Tony’s dynamic. So excited for the other installments and really bummed that I’m not as prolific a writer as some of y’all are. Alas, we work with what we have.
Stargate Oblivion (5/?) [ 10 April 2020 - present ]
Fifteen years after John Sheppard left Atlantis for good, the Stargate Program is finally ready to go public.
In the ensuing chaos, sixteen-year-old Paula Jane McKay is thrown in the middle of sinister plots, complicated loyalties, and old secrets that will force her to choose between her beloved city and the planet she has spent her whole life yearning for.
Ah, the fic that continues to eat my brain. I will finish this if it’s the last thing I do, I swear. It’s sort of a way for me to play with time jump, original characters, the restrictive nature of canon compliance, and what happens to soulmates after being apart for so long (to name a few elements). It’s basically a love story 20 years in the making that I only hope doesn’t take me just as long to write lol
SIX SENTENCE SUNDAYS
This was exciting for the first few weeks, until I caught myself being anxious over what to write next and it sucked the fun out of the whole exercise. It did help me practice writing short pieces, and rest assured I’ll post another one if something shiny comes up.

My Love From The Star
Also known as, ‘How to Hack Kit’s Brain’. This really helped me deal with the countless plot bunnies that keep popping up in my brain. I have a lot of these on queue, each one meant to satisfy my curiosity without committing to writing a full-length fic. Unless specified otherwise, these little ficlets aren’t going to be complete stories. I’m giving everyone carte blanche to pick up whatever you find interesting and to write your own version/continuation. Just drop me a link to your story so I can gush about it :)

So happy a lot of people loved the fic recs. Join (or rejoin, for OG McShep fans) me in my downward spiral, folks. I have no plans whatsoever to look for the end of the tunnel ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[ STARGATE SIDEBLOG ]
atlantis-scribe
Of course, my favorite accomplishment of the year: this little sideblog. The pandemic has been rough for everyone (unless you’re Jeff or Elon, and if you are, can you pls fund the Stargate reboot?), so I’m really just happy to spread good vibes all around. This has been my most active participation in any fandom, so I may be a little awkward when it comes to interacting with other people. Forgive me if I violate some well-established rules; I’m trying to educate myself along the way. I really am just perfectly happy to provide whatever content I can, and people’s comments/tags/messages are simply icing on the cake.
Whatever reason you guys may have, I’m delighted to have you over. Grab a seat; let’s talk about stars and gates ;)

FEATURE: The Devil's in the Details, Dark Bargains in The Laughing Salesman
Laugh and the world laughs with you, as the saying goes, but having an unruly anime queue is no laughing matter. “Cruising the Crunchy-Catalog” is here to humor you with a retrospective look at some of the series that fans may have missed the first time around, in hopes of connecting viewers with the types of shows that tickle their funny-bone.
This week, we're striking a Faustian deal with an outwardly benign fellow who leaves broken families and shattered dreams in his wake as we check out the recent reboot of The Laughing Salesman.
What's The Laughing Salesman?
Based on the manga by Fujiko A. Fujio, The Laughing Salesman is a Spring 2017 TV anime with direction by Hirofumi Ogura and animation production by Shin-Ei Animation. Crunchyroll describes the story of the series as follows:
My name is Fukuzou Moguro, and people call me the Laughing Salesman. I am no ordinary salesman. The merchandise I sell is the human soul itself. Hooo-ho-ho-ho ... All people in this world, young and old, male and female, are lonely. I am here to fill the emptiness in all of their souls. No, I won't accept a single coin in return. As long as my customer is satisfied, that's all the payment I need. Now, I wonder what sort of customer I'll serve today ... Hooo-ho-ho-ho-ho ...
A series of morality tales about the dangers of hubris and the weakness of the human will, if The Laughing Salesman has an aesthetic that appears eerily familiar, that's because the original author Fujiko A. Fujio (a pen name used by Motoo Abiko) is one half of the creative team that brought the world the much-beloved children's series, Doraemon.
A Devil's Bargain.
Each episode of The Laughing Salesman consists of two-parts, and the series structure is episodic, rather than serialized. Each story involves the enigmatic Moguro offering some sad, desperate, or lonely person a seemingly perfect solution for what troubles them, but every deal that Moguro offers comes with a specific restriction or condition. Breaking that condition leads to dire consequences, but invariably Moguro's clients prove too weak to resist the temptation.
Taken in total, The Laughing Salesman is an exploration of sin, ranging in severity from the little white lies that people tell themselves to more severe transgressions such as power harassment and marital infidelity. The dark subject matter contrasts with the cartoony visuals, and the themes that the show explores are more akin to a walk through The Twilight Zone than a stroll down Sesame Street.
Psychological Horror.
With a few exceptions, most of the scenarios presented in The Laughing Salesman aren't horrifying in the classical sense of monsters, murder, and mayhem. Instead, the show preys on adult anxieties with stories of people who are terrified of physical, mental, emotional, and social abnormalities.
The consequences of Moguro's tender ministrations are occasionally implied to be deadly, but the fear of death isn't the primary factor the series explores. Instead, Moguro's clients are afraid of feeling worthless, irrelevant, and powerless. They are afraid of embarrassment and exposure. They are afraid that the comforts of their ordinary lives will prove illusory. They are afraid that they will get exactly what they deserve. And invariably, they are right to be afraid.
Dark Comedy.
Despite its heavy subject matter and diabolical protagonist, The Laughing Salesman isn't all doom and gloom. The series actually has a twisted, tongue-in-cheek sense of humor that leans heavily on the concept of schadenfreude — i.e. taking pleasure in the suffering of others.
Nine times out of ten, there is a sense that schadenfreude is well-deserved because one of Moguro's clients has behaved poorly and earned a swift and brutal comeuppance. Sometimes the punishment doesn't fit the crime, though, and in those tragic instances, the audience is encouraged to laugh as a way of holding back the tears.
No Refunds or Exchanges.
Crunchyroll currently streams The Laughing Salesman in 207 territories worldwide. The series is available in the original Japanese with subtitles in English, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Russian, and Arabic. There are currently no home video releases or English language versions of the original manga for The Laughing Salesman in the US, so what you stream is what you get.
Within its old-fashioned character designs and its uncanny subject matter, The Laughing Salesman isn't likely to appeal to all anime fans, but if you're in the mood for the cartoon equivalent of black licorice during this spooky Halloween season, and if the series is available in your area, then why not experience the dark and refined flavor of The Laughing Salesman? Go on. A little taste couldn't hurt ...
Thanks for joining us for this week's installment of “Cruising the Crunchy-Catalog”. Be sure to tune in next time when we transition to a more mellow part of the fall season with a look back at a relaxing show that mixes up fantasy and gourmet cooking for a tasty autumnal treat.
