Are there any major centaur population centres or enclaves outside of Ironwall? Especially from high modernity onwards
Yes, the 1970s recession in Ironwall resulted in a migration of labourers to wherever they could find foundry or manufacturing work, and a lot of those places also stopped existing when cheaper imports started to overtake the domestic market. But by then many small mining or factory towns in what was traditionally human country had gained significant centaur populations. In most cases they resisted assimilation with the local culture and formed little bubbles of their own which became associated with a district or neighbourhood looking worse or dropping in status (big sprawling buildings instead of multistorey, harness & blanket modification shops popping up, double high doors not matching local aesthetics etc). And because the accommodations are already there, these areas would continue to attract centaurs even though the steelworks or factories had long since closed down.
In this country the divide between centaur/etc & human population distribution is a north south divide with ironwall acting as the major northern city. The region that contains ironwall, its commuter towns, and the areas further north was a place I lazily called Avalon but that's probably going to change
North of Ironwall there's a few exclusive farming enclaves founded centuries ago with a strict purpose of being Ironwall 2 but very strictly a pastoral rejection of the culture imposed on ironwall. They rejected industrialisation to uphold a traditional way of life. not many of these persisted into the modern era but there were still one or two at the turn of the 21st century. They do not allow human entry.
