can i get an update on what is happening in the fandom nowadays?
I assume you mean the ML fandom? tbh I feel like I’ve just been floating on the fringes lately lol so I’m not sure I’m the best person to offer you a Full Report on the happenings of the ML corner of tumblr, but I’ll give it a shot! (FYI this is based on what I personally have been seeing most on my dash so I can’t tell how widespread some of these things are lol)
Buggachat finished the bakery enemies AU! <3
Anna-scribbles has had an Emilie Agreste obsession for several months because of her ongoing fic “thirteen”
the loveybug AU seems pretty popular and there’s a lot of cute art of it (I haven’t looked into it a ton but to my knowledge it’s an AU where Marinette embraces her giant crush on catwalker and creates her own alter-alter-ego called loveybug to shamelessly and anonymously flirt with him while wearing a cute pink costume with hearts on it)
There is either an increasing general obsession with Felix or like a few dedicated felix stans who continue to publicly study him under a microscope. either way I’m seeing a lot of felix lol
hamsternamedmarinette went on a crazy road trip across the USA and met a bunch of fandom people, including buggachat, ladybeug, anna-scribbles, isninoluka, and the clown formerly known as carpisuns (me lol)….or DID she? 👀
A lot of people have started rooting for adrinette to have a messy breakup in season 6—not because they hate the love square but because the drama would be interesting lol (I am one of those people, and Anna scribbles is feeding into my delusions that this could lead back to marichat lol)
There is a residual obsession with shadybug and claw noir from the Paris special back in October. Tbh I think this is the last really Big thing that happened so if you were there for that you probably haven’t missed much since then lol
I keep forgetting that there was a whole entire miraculous movie that came out last year bc the tumblr side of the fandom appears to have agreed to ignore it for the most part lol
There is a London special coming out sometime this year but I don’t think we have a date yet
No date for season 6 either but potentially end end of this year? or who knows! lol
I probably missed stuff so people can add more if they want haha

I've seen many posts about people missing how common asks used to be, I have been trying to send more asks. I really don't want to bother anyone though so I'd love to know if you enjoy receiving asks and if so what kind of asks.
Detailed? Vague? Work? Movies? Books? Childhood? Gardening? Thoughts? OTPs? OCs? Pets? Story ideas or snippets? Fandom, if yes which ones (I listed most of mine below)? I'm sure there are way more categories, I'm not limiting you to these listed options. Perhaps if it's an easier question what types of asks do you not like?
Do you like being tagged in things?
I think my main fandoms and ships are Bagginshield/The Hobbit, Sherlock/Johnlock, Dragon Age Inquisition, {Pippin/Faramir Merry/Eowyn}/The Lord of the Rings and I dip my toes in a few that I currently can't remember but ones I don't engage in canon at all are Good Omens but only for Crowley/Azirapheal ship, Stranger Things but only for Steve/Eddie ship, The Witcher but only for Geralt/Jaskier things and Ladybug and Cat Noir but only for Adrinette .
*Asks are sent for fun, no pressure to answer within a certain amount of time or at all.
I'm definitely up for receiving asks! I'll tell you pretty much anything you want to know! If you ask something that I'm not familiar with, I'll just say so.
Tag away! I'm always keen to see what someone else thinks I'll like.
My main fandoms, not that you actually asked in this ask, are Bagginshield/The Hobbit, Sterek/Teen Wolf, Hannigram/ Hannibal, Amuto/Shugo Chara, and a few Kpop ones. I also read a lot of Obikin/Star Wars fics and have plans to write for them but haven't yet.

Just a rant from an old fan
Ok. The movie reminded me of some of the feelings I had about the show when I first started watching it in 2015. A lot of things have changed in my life and I’m feeling melancholic remembering my circumstances back then and how much joy the show used to give to me. In 2015 I was studying to go to uh... either an arts or translation college, whichever I’d score enough to pass. I was at cram school and used to live in a run-down house sharing a room with my middle brother. I remember when I first started watching it was around winter in the southern hemisphere. I remember that room was so cold. The walls were solid concrete and felt freezing to the touch. Our desk was made out of glass and steel, which also felt cool. While my brother would be asleep, I’d stay up until 4am to catch the episodes in French (which I don’t speak, I can only understand some of it as it’s a bit close to my mother tongue). I’d bundle up, grab a drink and just freak out at every ladynoir, adrinette, and, especially, marichat interaction. I’ve never been a fan of fanfiction, but I was so excited I’d read some. I was so unsure about my future, as I am now. I start college yet again on the 20th. This time to get a degree in Education. I felt a little bit like I did back them when I watched the movie. Everything else in my life changed though - I was 19 in 2015. I’m now 27. Got my degree in translation (ugh!), am in my 4th year of teaching. Learned I’m someone who’s autistic and that I have ADHD. I’m married, and I live in a 3 bedroom apartment with my husband in the US. Like, what the hell! and still, I was transported to those chilly days in probably June or July of 2015 and I’m missing those days more than ever.

The ask about movies and the following answer made me think that adrinette would not miss a single Hallmark Christmas Movie. Like yea they know it’s badly written and cheesy…but gosh darn it’s a feel good movie and after a long day/night of fight akumas they just want to relax and not watch suspenseful/scary movies.
Like their lives are already filled with a lot of drama and stress, so I can imagine they they just want to enjoy something simple with a predictable and happy ending.
Oh YES absolutely!!! They would eat that cheesy hallmark garbage up!!! Nino and alya would invite them out to go do something and they’d be like sorry we already have plans we’re gonna binge the Christmas Prince 1–8!! (Ok that’s not hallmark but it’s the first thing I thought of lol. Also I haven’t seen it but marinette and adrien have, multiple times)

Gale Reviews: ML Season 4 Episode 8 Queen Banana
(Spoilers below)
-Marinette is costume designer for this independent movie the class is helping put on.
-So from what I got Shameless Self-insert, I MEAN Respected former student now famous director Thomas Astruc. is helping make this movie. And it gets to be in theaters... for some reason.
-The Mayor really went from hiding himself to being blatant about it
-Also Bob Roth and Gabriel are involved? Okay but WHY?
-Chloé is salty she isn't the star, and also Sabrina is feeding her bananas (so this is why the bananas were related)
-And Chloé ruins another scene the class performs. Chloé believes the city's money is her money. Thomas Really going for Chloé being an irredeemable brat to the point that it makes it REALLY funny instead of awful
-OH! I just realized it. Thomas Astruc being there is the biggest and most blatant way to say. "CHLOE YOU HAVE BEEN REPLACED."
-The art teacher has a name, and actually makes a point. HE QUOTED HER! Thats hilarious.
-And then points out she was actually WORSE! I CANT
-Chloé's CHAIR REVEAL! I LIVE FOR IT!
-And Andre is scared of his daughter. BECAUSE of course she is
-Bob Roth... truly a beacon of integrity
-Well they shooting and Marinette is snarky to Chloé. Who deserves it.
-Sabrina's sole purpose in this episode is... Banana
-Marinette is so Sassy in this. Like I am all for Sassynette, but something seems off. Not that its bad, but I am trying to figure out why this feels so... personal.
-OMG I just got this. This episode is Thomas COMPLAINING ABOUT JEREMY'S EXECUTIVE MEDDLING! I knew this felt Like Animaestro for some reason.
-Thomas aint being subtle. Chloé is Zag in this. Like just wow.
-Queen Banana was her attempt to hide a blatant Queen bee reference.
-Second script rewrite and now EVERYONE feels done with it. So my question is... How do they escape this UN-APEELING situation?
-I Like the design of Chloé's Queen banana.
-SHE HAS A CAR NOW!
-AND SCRIPT CHANGE NUMBER THREE
-Adrien is now in a cage.... Okay... I wasn't expecting that. adrinette is cute tho.
-A CAGE BEING CARRIED BY A HELICOPTER?! Is it wrong that I would totally watch Chloé's movie.
-SON OF A B****. THIS EPISODE IS ALSO A CRITIQUE ON JEREMY ZAG MAKING THE MIRACULOUS MOVIE. MOTHER F***ER WE HIT 3 LEVELS OF META
-Honestly Chloé's demands sound dumb but also like the movie would be REALLY popular in America.
-Nino my son, I feel your pain.
-AND CHLOÉ LEFT BECAUSE SHE WASNT SATISFIED.
-I love that Kim tries to make it work.
-Okay so my bet is they try to film the movie without her there.
-I was right.
-And predictably she goes to the theater to see that the movie was filmed without her, cue outrage, cue blah blah blah
-Im watching the movie they filmed... I am disappointed by the lack of Dynamite throwing gorillas. (some of the special effects were cool.) It was meh, Id probably skip this movie.
-Gabriel... ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING GOOD?! IN MY SHOW? Oh wait, he is going to akumatize Chloé so meh. I will say it cancels out.
-I was caught in the euphoria of Gabriel sounding reasonable that I forgot for a moment he is a piece of s***
-Shadowmoth's transformation looks stupid
-Adrien my boy. I AM PROUD OF YOU. I RESPECT AND LOVE YOU. YOU STOOD UP FOR YOUR OTHER FRIENDS. YOU TOLD CHLOÉ OFF. THAT IS MY SON!
-Shadowmoth saying Queen banana made me giggle.
-Chloé knows the drill. Just give her the monkey and she is ready
-She just turned that man into a banana... I can't.
-Ladybug and Chat noir enter stage left.
-You know they didn't show Chat noir transform. (Gale will remember that.)
-Ladybug just spun and Caught chat noir. Ladynoir points
-THE LUCKY CHARM ALMOST SQUASHED HER!
-Zoé stood up to Queen banana, and thats why Ladybug found out what she needed. Horray.
-Cue Iconic Akira pose on motorbike.
-Look Ladybug you can't blame chat noir on that one. Queen banana's care just up and moved. Not his fault he made the ape go... BANANAS
-ZOÉ LEE name confirmed.
-Zoé's transformation is ADORABLE! I LOVE IT
-Welp, Thats gonna leave a mark.
-Vesperia poses. I kind of see the chat noir parallels.
-Mistranslation. Plagg said Queen bee not Ladybug.
-Side note. Doesn't it seem kind of dumb that Cataclysm makes the sentimonsters go haywire instead of destroying them? There is already a Kwami that makes things go haywire. Its Xuupa.
-Chat noir got the car this time. Good. If he missed again, I would assume they really were giving him the shaft.
-Vesperia REALLY taunting Chloé. I love it.
-Ladybug and Chat noir really bullied Queen banana after that. LOL
-OOOH Ladybug made her a charm
-Chloé rejected it and Shadowmoth be like (oh it aint over yet.) What he doing.
-So Zoé stood up to Chloé and OMG SHE TRICKED HER INTO TAKING THE CHARM!
-ZOE YOU BRILLAINT! JUST IN TIME. SHADOWMOTH GOT BLOCKED!
- ADRIEN! TIKKI IS RIGHT ON MARINETTE'S SHOULDER! LOOK LEFT.
____________________________________________________________
Okay this episode was funny.
I would say this was Animaestro done... better.
I found it a bit on the nose with its criticism but at least didn't rub one's nose in it too much. But Once I saw what it was doing, I couldn't unsee it.
Well It isn't a bad episode at all. It has a lot of good moments.
Zoé is a a good character and I did enjoy Vesperia.
I like how we got to see how the charm works, thats cool.
overall
Objectively I would put it.
7.5/10
Though personally I put it more 6.5/10
There is an art to being subtle and this was a subtle as a gorrilla throwing banana explosives. Also there was no Banana noir and that in itself is a crime. No Mr. Banana. No stay peachy. Its a crime!

“This is how I think of “shipping”: When you start shipping someone, it starts out as a little sailboat. As hints are seen (in the actual show, movie, book, game, etc.), the sailboat slowly grows larger. When it becomes canon, the boat becomes a giant pirate ship with cannons (get it?). If the people suddenly break up, that means the ship ran into a giant Broken-Love-Iceberg.“
-me (HarmonyTRE)
(P. S. All of these I ship platonically too, and the younger couples are only wholesome. NONE of these I ship in more than romantic ways. And some of them I don’t ship now, but shipped when I was younger so they feel nostalgic. So if the ship seems odd, it’s probably that asdfghjkl.)

Summary: When Marinette has to cook for her family reunion, Adrien offers to help. Only one problem: he has no idea how to cook. With Plagg's help, Adrien proposes a Disney-inspired solution that will either keep him from making a fool of himself, or backfire terribly. (Spoiler alert: it backfires terribly.) A university-aged Adrinette reveal fic.

XXX
“Plagg, what am I going to do? I don’t know how to cook!” Adrien pulled at his hair as he paced circles around his apartment.
Plagg, meanwhile, lazily hovered with his paws crossed behind his head. “Maybe you should’ve thought about that before you tried to swoop in like some kind of superhero.”
“I am a superhero.” Not that it mattered, because his superpower was destruction. Maybe his Lady would’ve been able to help Marinette cook dinner for her family reunion, but Adrien was … well. Even though the cat miraculous didn’t actually make him more disaster prone, he had enough bad luck in the kitchen on his own. He’d survived on spaghetti and takeout since moving into his own apartment this semester.
“Why don’t you just tell her you can’t do it? Something came up. You fell headfirst into a pool of cream cheese. You got zapped by an akuma and all your hair fell out.”
“That hasn’t happened in at least a month. Besides, I can’t flake out on Marinette. She needs me.” He stood up straighter.
“What she needs is someone who won’t turn soup into an explosive. What about your friend Alya? Isn’t her mom some kind of chef?”
“She’s out of town for Christmas. Nino too, or I’d ask him to help me.” Did he know anyone else who could teach him how to cook in one night? Kagami was back in Japan, Chloe wouldn’t touch an oven to save her life, Luka was on tour with XY… Ladybug was pretty much his only friend still in town. She would probably be willing to teach him, but on their last patrol she’d mentioned she’d be busy the next few days with her own plans.
“You need to get some more friends, kid.”
“It’s kind of late for that,” Adrien murmured. Too many people in his classes were more interested in the Gabriel name than in him. Besides, he might not have made a lot of new friends, but he’d gotten much closer to Marinette and his old friends now that he had more control over his schedule.
“Well, as your very first and best friend—”
“Chloe was technically my first friend.”
Plagg glared. “As your first and best friend, I will help you for the low low price of two wheels of Camembert.”
Adrien stopped pacing. He only realized he’d ended up in the bathroom when he caught a glimpse of his reflection.
“Wait. You know how to cook?”
Plagg scoffed. “I’ve been alive since the dawn of time. I’ve picked up a thing or two.”
Adrien raised an eyebrow. “You also thought that my blender was a jet tub for kwamis.”
“Okay, so you humans have invented some fancy new gadgets since I was last out, big deal. I still know more about cooking than you.”
Unfortunately, he was probably right.
“Alright. Deal.” Adrien held out a finger, and he and Plagg shook on it.
“Alright, loverboy, let’s get cooking.”
XXX
“No, not like that! What are you trying to do, knock someone out with that thing?”
“At least I wouldn’t do it with the smell!” Adrien instinctively waved the frying pan in front of his nose, and the burned remnants of roux glopped out onto the tile.
“Coward. It’ll taste good once you put it all together.”
Adrien wasn’t convinced. But then again, he hadn’t followed Plagg’s instructions exactly. Plagg never gave him quite enough time to pour the ingredients in the pan or measure the spices with the little spoons.
“I wish you’d be able to help me while I’m there.” Adrien sighed. “I’m going to forget all of this as soon as I leave.”
“You can’t be good at everything, I guess.” Plagg shrugged. “You can still always call your girlfriend and say you gave up.”
“She’s a good friend. We’ve been over this.” He’d promised not to call Marinette ‘just a friend’ on the grounds that she deserved better than that. But she still wasn’t his girlfriend. Which was fine, so why did his stomach sink slightly? Probably just nervousness about the task ahead of him.
“And I’m not giving up. What if you just … hid in my hair and whispered advice?”
Plagg tapped his chin. “Maybe if you wear a hat …” A grin suddenly split his tiny face. “Hey, what if you wore that ug—uh, that beret Ladybug gave you? You know, from your fan club?”
“Great idea!” Adrien bolted out of the bathroom and towards his closet. He wore the hat every once in a while—its ridiculous energy was too good to leave hidden like it had been in lycée. He made a special point of wearing it to every meeting with his dad, though he did feel a little bit nervous of wearing it around Marinette. She was in their university’s design program; she’d probably think it was tacky.
Oh well. He’d probably been tackier around her before.
“You sure you’ll fit in here?” Adrien squinted at the underside of the beret before pulling it over his hair.
“Looks cozy enough to me.” Plagg slipped under, and Adrien felt him shuffle around. Unfortunately, his voice was too muffled for Adrien to make out after that.
“Plagg?”
“Blegh.” The kwami scrambled back out and scraped his tongue with his paws. “Your hair tastes like shampoo. I can’t talk without getting a mouthful of it.”
“Guess that isn’t going to work …” He pursed his lips as he adjusted the beret. “It’s too bad real life isn’t like Ratatouille. You could just tug on my hair and do all the cooking for me.”
Unless …?
“Oh no, don’t give me that look.” Plagg crossed his arms. “That’s just a movie. Though it would be nice to show you what it feels like to get dragged around for a change …”
“It’s worth a shot, isn’t it?” Adrien didn’t really think it would work either, but Plagg was magic.
“Fine. But I’m upping my price to three wheels.”
Plagg slipped back under the beret, and Adrien felt a tugging sensation on his scalp. But nothing seemed to happen.
“Guess that was a pretty dumb idea,” he admitted sheepishly.
Then green light crackled from his ring.
His arms flung into the air.
“Ack! Plagg, did you do that?”
Adrien heard a muffled cackle from under the hat. Then his legs started walking towards the refrigerator.
“Okay, so this is … working? This is working!”
Plagg missed a few times before guiding his hand to pull open the fridge. Of course, his next step was to reach for a wedge of Camembert and hold it up to his head.
“The sweet taste of victory,” Plagg said while popping out to swallow the wedge whole.
“More like the rotten taste of old cheese.”
But Adrien still grinned. However Plagg had pulled off his puppeteer trick, Adrien wasn’t going to make a fool of himself tomorrow.
XXX
“Adrien!” Marinette threw her arms around him as soon as she opened the door. “Thank goodness you’re here. My parents just called and they got a last-minute order and—eep!” She sprung back, her eyes wide as she stared at his beret.
“Come on, it’s not that bad.” He rubbed the back of his neck, trying not to feel embarrassed. Marinette wouldn’t judge him based on what he wore. “It was an old gift. I like that it drives my father crazy.”
Plus, Ladybug had hand-delivered it, but she probably didn’t care about that.
“W-well then, it’s perfect.” She grinned too wide. “I just don’t think I’ve ever seen you in a hat before.”
“You’ve definitely—”
“Anyway, no time for that! There’s only five hours before Uncle Wang gets here. Nonna is already at my parent’s, and my other grandma and grandpa are coming for the first time since Mom moved here. Not to mention fourteen of my cousins I’ve never met and their parents!” Marinette rushed towards the small kitchen, which was already full of steaming pots and used pans. She threw on her pink oven mitts and pulled a tray of golden-brown pastries out of the oven.
Adrien swallowed. Marinette’s kitchen might look like a war zone, but she clearly knew what she was doing. What if he just got in the way?
“How did you end up in charge of the food?” he asked while throwing on a mint-green apron from inside the pantry door. Her great-uncle was a world-class chef, and her parents owned a bakery. Her grandpa Rolland had even taught mice how to bake.
“I’m not in charge. I just need to help a little since Uncle Wang is running late, and the reunion starts tonight, and Grandpa won’t bake anything in bulk because ‘that’s not how it’s done’’—she used a gruff imitation of his voice—“and my parents have so much bakery work to do. I’m just trying to do what I can.”
She sighed as she stirred a pot of wonton soup. “Unfortunately, I can’t do a lot.”
“What are you talking about? It looks like you could feed an army with all this.”
He carefully dodged Marinette as she scrambled in a drawer for a fork. She tested the rice noodles boiling behind the soup, then grimaced and slumped against the counter, fork nearly slipping from her fingers. Her hair was falling out of her bun, and flour smudged her pink apron, contrasting with the splatters of dark sauce.
“I hope so. There’s just … so much to live up to, you know? Everyone on both sides of my family cooks. And now I have to merge styles from two different cultures in a way that will please everyone …”
Her gaze swept across the counter, where dumplings and quiches, brothy soups and thin crêpes—even ratatouille, ironically—lay in various stages of completion. The savory and sweet fragrances somehow melded together in harmony.
“I know I can’t understand how hard that must be. About trying to bridge two different sides of your family, I mean. But you’re amazing, Marinette.” He stepped closer to her and brushed a streak of flour off of her cheek. “You’ve already worked so hard on all this; I can’t see how anyone wouldn’t love it. May I?”
He gestured to a spoon sitting in one of the soups, and she nodded. He raised it to his lips and sipped the tangy broth. A bit of crunchy bamboo shoot added texture to the savory liquid. He didn’t want to eat too much—it was for her family, not him—but if it weren’t for that, he could’ve downed the whole bowl. He could practically taste the love and care she’d put into it.
“See? Amazing.” He grinned. “Just like the rest of the food we’re going to make.”
At least, the food she made would be amazing. He just hoped that what he made with Plagg’s help would be edible. And not offend her family.
Her lips parted before curving into a smile. “Right. Thank you, Adrien.”
She paused, staring for a moment, until one of the shallow pots started bubbling over.
“Ack! The filling!”
She rushed to switch off the burner and remove the lid before sighing loudly. “I think it’s still alright. Now I just need to fold this into the dough …”
“Can I help with that?” he asked, feeling like a rock in the middle of a river as Marinette flowed between the cooking stations around him.
“Huh? Oh—um, why don’t you work on filling the crêpes instead? This baozi is a Chinese dish, and it’s my first time making it by myself. Not that I don’t appreciate the offer! You were so sweet to come at all, and—”
“Marinette.” He squeezed her shoulder gently, wishing he could relieve some ot the tension there. “I’ll do the crêpes.”
She let out a breath. “Thanks. I was going to do a pear-hazelnut filling, if you’re okay with that? The pears are in the bottom right drawer of the fridge, and the hazelnuts are on the middle shelf in the panty. All the spices are up there.” She pointed to the cabinet above the sink.
“Sounds perfect,” he said with the fake confidence he usually saved for his modeling jobs.
Before he could ask for a recipe, she went back to work, leaving him to his own devices in front of a stack of unfilled crêpes. A mixture of the rich smells and his own nerves started to turn his stomach.
“Are you ready, Plagg?” he whispered, adjusting his beret.
In response, his scalp twinged, and then his hand rose and formed a thumbs-up.
“Well, here we go.” He cracked his knuckles.
He rinsed out a pan that it looked like Marinette had previously used for some kind of stir fry. That wouldn’t be a problem, would it? It looked like every other pan in the apartment was in use already.
Marinette didn’t stop to correct him. Then again, she seemed to be in ten places at once, adding spices and stirring and adjusting dials and rummaging through cupboards, all in between filling her baozi. Watching her work was so mesmerizing it was almost too easy to ignore his own job.
Until Plagg started tugging his hair again, anyway.
This is going to be weird, he thought while Plagg directed his hands to chop the pears. He was pretty sure he could’ve done that himself—he didn’t want his kwami chopping off one of his fingers. But resisting at this point would just increase his chances of accidentally getting stabbed.
Besides, Plagg was fast. He diced the five pears in the time it probably would’ve taken Adrien to cut up one. Granted, he also left a juicy mess on the counter, but it sounded like they were on too much of a deadline to worry about that.
Plagg tossed them into the pan, cores and all. Adrien frowned at that.
“I hope you know what you’re doing,” he muttered.
“What?” Marinette asked from where she was stretching out dough.
“Um, nothing! I just, uh, talk to myself while I cook.”
“Oh, me too. I was just trying not to do it in front of you. You know, in case I sounded crazy.” She laughed, seeming to release a little bit of tension. “I think I picked it up from my mom. She always says the steps out loud as she does them so she doesn’t forget which one she’s on.”
He smiled at the image of her doing this with Mrs. Cheng. “Did you cook with your mom a lot?”
“I don’t think I’d say a lot. I was pretty busy in lycée, and I didn’t appreciate her culture as much as I do now. I wish I would’ve learned more.”
“It looks like you learned a lot if you can put all this together.”
She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. “Thanks. That means a lot.”
He retrieved the hazelnuts and tossed them into the pan. She still had her back to him, the baozi taking up most of her attention. Should he ask her to check his work so far? Plagg didn’t hesitate to nab some spices from the high cabinet and start sprinkling them into the pan.
“Wait—not that one!” he hissed, trying to drop the shaker that read chili powder before Plagg could add it.
“Adrien? Is something wrong?”
He spun, quickly shoving the container behind his back. “No! Everything’s just peachy—er, pear-y.”
She giggled at his joke, even though it had to be one of his lamest puns yet.
“Okay, but you can let me know if you need help. Sorry I just kind of threw you into this.” Her arm gently brushed his as she dialed back the heat on the noodles. “Um—is there a reason you’re holding chili powder?”
“I was just moving it so I could reach the, uh…”
Plagg helpfully directed his arm towards a different spice.
“... garlic salt?”
Marinette blinked, and he hastily shoved the garlic salt back, selecting cinnamon instead. He should’ve known that trusting the kwami who liked eating rotten cheese would be a mistake.
“You’re so funny, Adrien.” She laughed again. “But, um, you might want to double check your pears. I think some of those still have the cores in them.”
His face flushed. Thanks a lot, Plagg.
He picked out the cores with a pair of tongs, hoping that his kwami wouldn’t try to take over again. Adrien might be bad at cooking, but at least he wasn’t going to try and poison Marinette’s family.
Unfortunately, he didn’t have much idea of what to do next. He’d turned the burner on high, and the pears were starting to sizzle. How did nuts cook? That didn’t make a lot of sense to him. He probably needed something liquidy to go with them, right?
Aaaand the pears already smelled like they were burning. He quickly flipped back the knob while he searched for something to turn into a sauce. Milk? That would make it nice and creamy, right?
He grabbed the half-gallon from the fridge and splashed a bit into the pan. Drops splattered the counter, and he winced.
That was when Plagg again decided to take over. Adrien grit his teeth as he selected the block of muenster from the cheese drawer. That definitely didn’t belong in the crêpe filling, but Adrien couldn’t get him to stop without making a scene in front of Marinette. Who would then wonder why he was yelling at himself, and either think he was insane or find out his secret identity. Both of which would be unacceptable.
He growled, hoping Plagg would get the message. If he did, he didn’t show it. At least Marinette didn’t hear over her own soft humming.
The sliced cheese went into the pan, plopping wetly in the milk. Maybe the finished product would surprise him, and cheese and pears would create a tasty sweet-savory combo, and Marinette would be super impressed by his originality, and she’d invite him over to cook with him again, and they’d make a cute romantic dinner together …
He banished that daydream before he could think too much of it.
By that point Plagg was using his arm to whisk the milk and melting cheese together. The pears and hazelnuts had settled to the bottom of the pan. He frowned as the whisk failed to unstick them.
“This isn’t working,” he said under his breath. “We might need to start over.”
He swore he could hear Plagg’s irritated sigh. But the kwami jerked the pan up, taking it towards the sink.
“Hey, what are you—Plagg!” he shouted before he could stop himself.
Plagg dropped the pan in the sink, spraying hot milk-cheese-pear slime all over the backsplash. And all over Adrien’s apron.
And, most importantly, all over his face.
“Adrien!” Marinette dropped her unfinished dumpling back on the counter. Filling spilled out as she rushed to his side. “Are you okay? What happened?”
He hurriedly tried to splash cold water on his face, but spilled it more down his shirt than anything. She offered him a damp hand towel, which was much more helpful.
“I’m so sorry.” His face still burned, but not from the hot food.
“It’s okay! Accidents happen—trust me, I would know.” She smiled before her eyes widened. “Oh no, your beret!”
“What?” He slapped his hands to his head, prompting a tiny yelp from Plagg. So he was still there. Under his hat. Which was still on his head. Phew.
“It’s got milk on it.” Marinette reached up like she intended to take it off.
“No!” he shouted, and she stepped back, startled.
“S-sorry! I just thought I’d help you clean it off, since it seems so, um, important to you.”
“I like it with the milk on it. It adds, uh, character?”
He heard Plagg snicker from beneath the beret.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” she asked. “If you need to take a break, or, um, get a new shirt … n-not that I want you to take off your shirt! Uh—forget I said that.”
She shook her head, and more strands fell out of her bun.
He frowned down at his shirt. Unfortunately, the splatter had made it under his apron, and his shirt was pretty gross. He even felt a slimy pear sliding down under his collar.
“I’m okay,” he said. “Finishing all the food for your reunion is more important.”
“No, don’t worry. I can handle it. Just having you here to keep me from freaking out has helped more than you know.”
She took the towel back from him with a smile. Frankly, he was still surprised she wasn’t angry with him. He’d come to help, and all he’d done so far was waste her time.
“I’m really not bothering you?” he asked, rubbing the back of his neck. Bad idea. His hands were still a bit wet and sticky.
“You could never bother me, Adrien.” Her cheeks pinked before she turned back to fiddle with the soup.
“Really? I thought …” He bit his lip, remembering how many times he’d startled Marinette before. How many times he’d seemed to make her uncomfortable, or awkward, or … he wasn’t really sure what. There had always been something keeping them apart, no matter how close they became.
Maybe it’s just your little crush, Plagg would’ve teased. Thankfully, he wasn’t going to talk while trapped under the beret.
“Thought what?” she asked once she’d added some seasonings to the soup.
“I thought I’d be your last pick for cooking help,” he said, which wasn’t quite a lie. “I didn’t want to tell you, but I … well, I don’t really know what I’m doing.”
Best to just admit it now, rather than after he’d ruined her family reunion.
Marinette blinked before covering her mouth. “I’m so sorry. I should’ve known you probably never cooked at your house. And here I am just asking you to throw together a crêpe filling!”
“It’s okay! I’m the one who’s sorry. I should’ve told you, I just … I wanted to impress you.”
Maybe he shouldn’t have admitted that much. He was sure he heard Plagg laughing from under his hat.
“You … wanted to impress … me?” She pointed to herself, as if there was anyone else in the kitchen he might have been talking about.
“Is that really so surprising?”
“Uh—yeah, actually.” Marinette stared at him like he’d grown a second head. Plagg hadn’t peeked out, had he? “I might be able to cook, but you’re good at everything. Fencing, basketball, Mandarin—which took me ages to get halfway decent at—not to mention you’re drop-dead gorgeous—”
His heart stopped. Her eyes nearly bulged out of her head.
“I mean—you’re a model; of course you’re gorgeous! It’s literally your job. I bet people call you gorgeous all the time.”
“Not when I’m covered in slimy food, though.” He grinned. She thought he was drop-dead gorgeous! Maybe he hadn’t made too much of a mess after all.
“Well—you would be a lot more gorgeous if you took off that stupid beret!” She pointed at his head.
“W-what?” He pulled it down over his ears. “This is my emotional support beret. I can’t take it off or I’ll cry.”
“Why did you have to pick that one, though? It’s so—I don’t know!” She gestured vaguely. “It looks like a fourteen-year-old made it!”
He pouted at her. “Hey, be nice. It was probably fashionable in Brazil at the time.”
It did look pretty silly, but that was its appeal. Fashion-savvy Marinette probably wouldn’t understand that.
“R-right. In Brazil.” She shook her head. “Why do you like it though?”
He blushed. Aside from spitting in the face of the Gabriel brand, it also reminded him of the day Ladybug had appeared in his room. That serendipitous event had never happened before or since.
“How embarrassing does it sound if I say my old crush delivered it to me?”
“Your—your crush?” She blinked. “But then—you had a crush on Ladybug?”
The soup started bubbling again, but she made no move to quiet it.
“Of course I have a crush on Ladybug. I’m pretty sure all of Paris has a crush on—wait, how did you know Ladybug was the one to deliver it?”
Marinette’s face went pale. “I—um, well, I … I think the soup is burning!”
She rushed to stir it again, but Adrien caught her hand.
“Wait, Marinette, please.” His heart beat faster. He’d never told anyone about Ladybug’s visit. She hadn’t been surprised when he mentioned Brazil, either.
But what could he say? Come out and ask her if she was Ladybug? That would be too good to be true, right? Marinette couldn’t be Ladybug; he’d seen them together once. But he’d pulled crazy stunts to protect his identity too.
She bit her lip, but didn’t pull her hand from his.
“I can’t answer that question, Adrien.”
It wasn’t a confirmation. But it wasn’t a denial either.
It had been five years. Five years, and he still didn’t know who his partner was. If she was here, in front of him, after all this time …
… he’d still respect her choice not to tell him. As much as it hurt, he’d do it.
“Alright.” He sighed. “I get it.”
An uncomfortable silence pushed between them, punctured only by the bubbling soup and beeping oven. The first batch of Marinette’s baozi was done; she removed them without speaking.
Why couldn’t they go back to five minutes ago, when she’d called him gorgeous? He was already thrilled to hear Marinette say that. But if she was his Lady too? He’d melt just like that cheese in the pan.
It was going to drive him crazy if he thought about it too long. He turned on the faucet, hoping that the loud water would drown out his thoughts as he did the dishes. At least that was one task he could accomplish without ruining any more of Marinette’s food.
“I’m sorry,” she murmured, barely audible over the running tap.
“What for?” He was the one pushing the boundaries between them. If she was even Ladybug at all. Maybe he’d managed to misinterpret everything, but he couldn’t see how.
“For not being honest with you. I wish I could, I swear.” Her hands squeezed her dough, and it oozed out between her fingers.
“I’m sure you have your reasons,” he said with resignation. Ladybug was the Guardian. She couldn’t risk revealing her identity. Even if it felt unfair, he should be used to it by now.
But before, you didn’t think Ladybug was one of your best friends.
Even more than that, if he was honest with himself. He’d wanted to be closer to Marinette for a long time now. What if he was just deluding himself with wishful thinking?
“I wish I didn’t, sometimes,” she murmured.
He switched off the faucet and turned to face her. Maybe some things needed to stay secret, but not everything.
“Marinette?” He swallowed.
She looked up from where she’d been absently rolling the dough again. So much for not wasting her time.
“Y-yeah?”
He didn’t expect to confess to her while standing in her kitchen, with Plagg hiding under his old beret, with his clothes covered in the ruined crêpe filling. But it was important, and if he could finally admit it to himself, the least he could do was admit it to her.
“I don’t just have a crush on Ladybug.”
“You—you don’t?”
Was it just his imagination, or did she deflate a little?
“She’s still very important to me. I know she always will be. But I’ve come to realize how important you are to me, too.” He watched her face as he spoke, but her wide eyes were impossible to read. Hopefully he wasn’t ruining everything with what he was about to say.
“I like you, Marinette. As more than a friend. And I would never want to make you uncomfortable. All I’ve ever wanted is to be closer to you.”
For a moment, her face didn’t change. She just stood there, staring blankly, like someone had pressed a pause button. He would’ve thought Bunnyx had stopped time to reset his screw-up if it weren’t for the soup continuing to boil over.
“Marinette?” he prodded, his stomach beginning to bubble as nervously as that soup.
She jumped. “Yes, I—comfort you me make—yike lou—”
A stream of incoherent noises followed that. Oh no, he’d broken her! Why couldn’t Plagg have taken over and stopped him from talking?
“—ugh! I thought I dopped stewing this years ago!” She dropped her burning face into her hands.
Adrien reached out to touch her shoulder and then thought better of it. His arm fell limply to his side.
“I’m so sorry. You can just forget I said anything. I’ll—I’ll let you finish up the food and get out of your way—”
“No!” She waved her hands, startling him so bad he stepped back—and slipped in a puddle of spilled dishwater.
“Adrien!” She caught the front of his apron as he fell, but that just meant she was pulled down on top of him.
He yelped as his head cracked against the linoleum. At least she landed on his chest, his arms cradling her.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry—AAAAAH!”
“What, what!?” He sat up as she scrambled off of him.
That was when he caught sight of the striped beret lying in the puddle next to him.
Oh no.
Plagg laughed nervously from where he was tangled in Adrien’s hair. “Hey, Pigtails.”
“Chat?” Marinette smacked her hands to her cheeks. “You’re—you’re Chat Noir?”
“Surprise!” Plagg wasn’t in Adrien’s line of sight, but he could hear the grin in his kwami’s voice.
“Where’s Bunnyx when you need her?” Adrien groaned. Not only was his confession a total bust, but he also ended up giving away his most important secret.
And he still didn’t know for sure that she was Ladybug.
“You’re Chat Noir.” Marinette plopped down into the puddle beside him. “Adrien is Chat Noir.”
“Yeah, yeah, we got that,” Plagg said. “Are you gonna put the poor kid out of his misery or not?”
“Huh?” She blinked.
“He’s in love with you. Hopelessly, stupidly in love with you. He loves you almost as much as I love cheese.”
That was a pretty big point in favor of Marinette being Ladybug. He guessed he should count himself lucky, but that also meant he’d just slipped and fallen in dirty dishwater in front of not only Marinette, but Ladybug.
He closed his eyes. “Plagg, please let me die in peace.”
“... Adrien?”
He felt her breath fan over his face, and his eyes back snapped open.
Her gray-blue eyes were hovering right above him. Well, he had said he wanted to be closer to her.
“Y-yeah?”
“Please don’t die,” she said softly. Her hand came up to cradle the side of his face—or maybe she was just trying to make sure he hadn’t bruised himself. “I l-love you too.”
Every one of his brain cells fizzled out. She. Loved him?
“I think I am dead.” He smiled, reaching his arms around her. “I’m pretty sure I just went to heaven.”
Her face flushed. “You’re always going to be that cheesy, aren’t you?”
“Are you really surprised, Princess?”
“No.” She leaned in, brushing her nose against his. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“Ew, gross.” Plagg gagged. “This isn’t the kind of cheese I signed up for.”
“You’re the one who said she should put me out of my misery.”
“Yeah, well I think you both need to put this food out of its misery. The soup’s burning.”
Marinette sprung up, eyes wide. “Oh no! We still have to get everything ready! And the crêpe filling isn’t done and I haven’t finished the baozi—”
“It’s okay! We can still get it all done … somehow.” Adrien winced as he stood up. Now they were both covered in a mix of dishwater and crêpe filling. “Just keep Plagg away from it all. He’s the reason I ruined the pears. Oh, and he’s the reason I was wearing that beret, too.”
She went back to work as if nothing had changed between them. It was honestly kind of amazing how quickly she had the noodles and soup under control, like she hadn’t just been freaking out moments before.
“He’s got as awful taste in fashion as he does in food?” she asked.
“No—well, probably, but that’s not important. The beret was to hide him so he could help me cook. Like in Ratatouille.”
She blinked. “That works?”
“It would work better if my kwami knew how to cook, but yeah.”
“Hmm …” She tapped her lips—lips he would hopefully be able to kiss once all this was taken care of, he thought with a giddy grin—before snapping her fingers. “That’s it! I can’t believe I didn’t think of it before!”
“What’s it? Wait—Marinette, where are you going?”
“You’ll see!” She winked before disappearing behind her bedroom door.
He gave the soup a careful stir while waiting for her to come back.
“You’re welcome.” Plagg crossed his arms and smirked irritatingly.
“For what?” Adrien scowled. “All you did was give away my identity and embarrass me in front of the love of my life!”
“Love of your life?” Marinette appeared behind him.
He nearly knocked over the pot of soup. It was what he deserved for startling her so much back in lycée, he guessed.
Plagg snickered. “Bold words coming from the guy who called her a good friend earlier.”
“She is a good friend! And the love of my life! She’s Ladybug, Plagg!”
He pointed to the giant red-and-black egg in Marinette’s arms. The Miracle Box. She was Ladybug!
“You didn’t know that when you said it five seconds ago,” Plagg pointed out.
“Yeah, well—I guessed it,” he huffed.
It had been the only answer that made sense. And it was true. Hopefully he could blame the tears pricking his eyes on the onion in the soup. If not, though, crying over his amazing partner (who loved him!) was probably still the least embarrassing thing he’d done today.
Tikki poked her head out of a cookie jar. By now he’d been startled so many times that her presence hardly registered.
“Don’t worry, Adrien. Marinette has said way more embarrassing stuff than that.”
“Which we won’t repeat in front of him,” Marinette said dangerously.
His head was still spinning from all the revelations. Of course, he wasn’t too surprised—who else but Marinette was amazing enough to be Ladybug?—but it was still a lot to take in at once.
“While I definitely want to hear about that later, what’s the Miracle Box out for? Is there a kwami of cooking? Or do you think Sass could give us a Second Chance on all this mess?” he asked, trying to bring his focus back to the problem at hand.
“What you said about Plagg gave me an idea.” She punched in a code on the spots, and the egg cracked open to reveal the miraculouses. “He might not know how to cook, but I’m sure some of the other kwamis do. And if not, I’m sure they can follow directions.”
“Great idea, Marinette!” Tikki clapped. “Wayzz and Pollen are pretty good at cooking, from what I remember. Orikko is too, but you shouldn’t cook chicken in front of him.”
“Makes sense.” Adrien nodded before turning to Marinette. “You think they’ll be enough to make up for how badly I messed up?”
“Of course they will. We’re Ladybug and Chat Noir; there’s no mess we can’t fix.” She smiled as she equipped the bracelet and hair comb, then passed the Miracle Box to him. “Have Tikki help you pick out a few more kwamis. Together we’ll get this done in time. I know it.”
Relief washed over him, and he smiled back.
“As you wish, My Lady.”
XXX
“You’re sure I won’t be intruding?” Adrien asked as they pulled up to her parents’ bakery.
“Of course not. There’s no way my family would leave out my boyfriend.” She shifted her tupperware to her other arm and reached up to adjust his (newly cleaned) beret. “Even if he has terrible fashion sense.”
“It’s a Marinette original! There’s nothing more fashionable than that!”
“An original from when I was fourteen!” she pouted.
“It’s too late, Bugaboo. I’m never taking it off.” He kissed her forehead.
“I’ll make you a new one. Anything would be better than mixing lacy hearts and stripes.”
“I guess that’s fair. But I’ll still treasure this one forever.”
She rolled her eyes affectionately as she pushed open the bakery door.
Not long after, Adrien, Marinette, and her family were settled around the dining room table, a feast of French and Chinese cuisine in front of them. The two sides of her family mingled, mixing as seamlessly as the dishes. Rolland was deep in conversation with Wang about traditional cooking techniques in France versus China. Gina (who’d insisted he just call ‘Grandma’) was regaling two of Marinette’s cousins with tales from her travels. More of her younger cousins ran around the table, barefoot soles slapping against the hardwood floor, their hands occasionally reaching up to snag a dumpling or croissant. It was a tight fit, but Adrien didn’t mind. He was thrilled to be included at all.
While they ate dinner, he kept catching her looking at the hat. But every time she did, he’d make eye contact with her, and then she’d blush and smile bright enough that it was worth every glare.
“So, what are you up to these days, son?” Tom asked over his bowl of wonton soup.
Son. Already, Marinette’s parents felt more like family than his own. He would love to be part of her family for as long as she would let him.
Hopefully forever.
“Oh, not much.” He put an arm around Marinette. “Just learning how to cook from your amazing daughter.”
He winked, and she blushed again. Red was her color in and out of the suit, it seemed.
“He needs all the help he can get. You should’ve seen what he almost put in the crêpes today.”
Tom laughed. “Well, it looks like it all turned out perfect. Thanks for your help, both of you.”
Under the table, Adrien and Marinette shared a fistbump. This wasn’t the first adventure they tackled together, and it wouldn’t be the last.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alya closed the distance between her and Marinette quickly, her arms wrapping around her smaller friend and her face burying in the girl’s hair while Adrien could only watch. The two girls stayed like that for a moment, Marinette’s eyes closing in what seemed to be thankfulness as her hand slowly patted Alya’s back. But it was only a moment, Then Alya pulled back to face her friend, her face shaped into a wicked grin.
Alya pressed her lips to her friend’s forehead with an overexaggerated mwah, a loud pop resounding as she quickly pulled back. “Well, you know what, I love you,” she declared, “and someday Adrien’s going to wake up and realize that he does too... if he hasn’t already.”
Marinette snorted, rolling back from Alya with a bemused smile, “you’re the worst.”
“I’m the best,” Alya proclaimed. “The best listener, the best blogger, and your best friend.” Leaning her weight on the side of Marinette’s chair, Alya asked, “speaking of being your best friend, and seeing as how I don’t see anything that could possibly keep you busy… Maybe we could have a sleepover tonight? Possibly run through all my theories, some Adrien related and others not?”
And while Adrien would have loved to hear those theories and possibly see his lady’s reaction, the thought of remaining in a dark trunk didn’t exactly sit well with him, nor did the fact that he could only hold up his transformation for so long. A loud groan escaped his mouth without permission, gaining Alya’s attention and suddenly startling Marinette.
“What was that--” Alya began to ask.
“Floor!” Marinette immediately yelled, suddenly hoping up from her desk chair and walking in front of the trunk. She gestured to the floor with her back turned to Adrien, and he could only imagine the look on her face. “You know, the floors in these old houses! What are you going to do? I mean its Paris, its 2020, everyone’s having a housing crisis--Can’t fix all the floors! Even if you wanted to fix them and make them less noisy and less inconvenient. Those floors!” She quickly sat on the trunk, crossing her legs and no doubt posing herself in an innocent manner. “But um… Sleepover. You here, with me, alone. Tonight.” Her nerves were evident in her voice, “Can’t do it, really busy...Making a raincoat for a friend.”
Alya let out a laugh, “Which friend?”
“Wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you.”
More laughter, Adrien heard the floor actually creak as Alya neared closer. “Alright,” she said, “you have fun with that. I’ll keep my eyes out for it on your Instagram.”
“Of course,” Marinette gave a strained reply as the trap door in her room creaked.
A moment passed in which she no doubt listened to Alya’s footsteps going down the staircase, much like Adrien was doing. He could hear her stand up from the trunk as the footsteps faded further away, a heavy inhale audible from outside. Suddenly, the lid of the chest opened entirely, Marinette’s face coming into view.
“Don’t. Say. A. Word.” Marinette immediately spat.
Adrien’s eyebrows raised, his legs hooking over the side of the trunk as he used it for leverage to pop out of the confining space. After taking in her dead serious expression, he couldn’t help but grin, “I don’t know what you’re referring to…”
She shot him an unimpressed glare.
“I guess the cat’s out of the bag,” he laughed, “or trunk, more like it.”
“And I’m going in it,” Marinette deadpanned, placing a foot in the trunk before stating rather over dramatically, “close the trunk and bury me in it.” After a moment of thought, she said, “and don’t forget to take the earrings off first.”
“No can do, m’lady,” he replied, his hand wrapping around her wrist as he pulled her closer, his grin stretching ear to ear like some sort of Cheshire Cat rip off. “You like him,” he stated, more for his pleasure than to inform her. “You like Adrien Agreste.” It felt electric and absolutely invigorating to say while looking at her, his Ladybug, and watching the pink bloom over her cheeks.
“I don’t!” She replied, “Not anymore!” But when the color left her face, she decided to correct the statement, “I mean I do, as a friend. I like Adrien as a friend now, only a friend. I don’t love h--”
He couldn’t let her say it. He cut her off before she could finish the statement, saying in an almost teasing tone, “Then prove it. You don’t even have to know who I am, just date me instead.” He rested his chin between his thumb and pointer finger with a devilish look, his other hand pulling her closer as he almost dared her to actually look at him, “I think I’m a little more handsome than the Agreste boy, wouldn’t you agree?”
Marinette jerked back her hand from his, her eyebrows knitting close to each other as she replied a simple, “No.”
He deflated slightly.
“You just don’t get it because you love doing this so much, but I…”
“You...?” Adrien’s face fell.
Marinette looked away from him. “I want a lot more than this, you know?” She cringed at her wording before clarifying, “I mean you and I could never date like normal people. We could never have picnics, watch movies at each other’s houses, go out to dinner, go to school dances, or spend a single peaceful night together.” Seeing how his face contorted in thought, she carried on, “I mean patrolling and beating up bad guys together is one thing, but there’s so much more to love. Could you even imagine Chat Noir walking me to school? That’s not something that can happen, kitty.”
“But if you let me tell you who I am--”
“Then I’ll love you just because you’re Chat Noir,” her hand drifted to his cheek, her thumb creating circles on his skin. “No one else would have a chance to know me like you do, and I might miss out on something great.” Her eyes were sincere as she stated, “If I fall in love, I want it to be as a civilian, just a normal girl. If you take off that mask right now, then I won’t get that.”
He sighed, his head leaning into her touch as he slowly closed his eyes, seemingly admitted defeat, “fine.”
*****************************************
“So tell me again why you’re forcing me to wake up a whole hour early,” Plagg yawned, but it did not diminish the audible nature of his irritation, “When you already show up at school well before everyone else.”
Adrien sighed, placing his head against the glass of his car door window as he also fought the urge to return to sleeping. “We’ve gone over this, Plagg. I talked to Nathalie, and she said that this was the only way she could imagine making room in my schedule for this. If this is what Marinette really wants, then…”
“Then you should walk her home instead,” Plagg whined, “so it’s not too suspicious. Heck, you could even give her a ride, maybe she’d like that.”
“Plagg.”
“You know that girl’s late all the time anyway!” Plagg reminded Adrien, “and your father said that if you show up even a minute late to one of your classes, then it’s another day of no school for you. You’re seriously putting things at risk here.”
“And?”
“And?!” Plagg’s voice grew louder but trailed off quickly. In a mere moment, the cat’s demeanor changed, his ears perking and his tail drooping as his nose pointed up in the air.
Adrien’s did as well, enticing smells filling the street as the Dupain-Cheng bakery came into view. Mrs. Cheng stood outside, propping the door open as she flipped the sign, clapping to herself with a pleased look on her face as the streets of Paris began to fill with the smell of freshly baked bread. Passerby quickly began to file off the street and into line as the scent grew, each hoping to grab some of Paris’s greatest baking before it ran out.
“Cream cheese danish-- No, a cheesy croissant-- No, a cheesy quiche…” Plagg began to demand, “or all of the above.” With a lick of his lips, the Kwami declared, “maybe you trying to date bakery girl won’t be such a bad thing…”
“I’ll say…” Adrien agreed, his mouth partially falling open at how enticing the smell of a just-opened bakery was. No wonder Ladybug always smelt so good; her parents had managed to create an aromatic paradise with mixtures of flour and yeast every morning.
The car rolled to a stop in front of the bakery, the Gorilla quickly hopping out of the driver’s seat to open Adrien’s door before he could manage to do it himself. The Gorilla nodded his head to the bakery as he opened Adrien’s door, hinting that at least one banana cream eclair would be required for the boy to carry out his plan. Adrien nodded in response as he got out of the car, giving his bodyguard a quick thumbs up and grinning as the man returned the action. Adrien was fortunate that his father paid him well, especially if he had to provide treats for his bodyguard and Plagg every day he insisted on walking with Marinette.
Pulling the strap of his messenger bag a little bit tighter and straightening his back, Adrien inhaled hard before getting in line. Keeping his head down and his hand angled on his forehead so that it blocked the majority of his face, he waited peacefully in the quick-moving line, mentally practicing what he would say to see Marinette at such an early hour a million times.
He was on a million and one when he got close enough for Tom Dupain to notice him, only three people between him and the counter.
“Adrien!” The baker’s voice greeted from behind the counter. Heads turned with his greeting, but the man paid them no mind as he quickly exited the kitchen to place a hand on the boy’s shoulder. “What are you doing waiting in line? You know you’re one of Marinette’s friends now; you hardly have to go through the bakery doors. You can use the back entrance like Alya.” Shrugging his shoulders and seeming to not realize even part of the reason Adrien was there, Tom added, “you can drop whatever you have for her on the kitchen counter; she’ll probably be up in a few hours.”
“Um, actually,” Adrien blinked, overwhelmed by the man. “I was hoping to get some of your pastries, you are the best baker in town. And then, you know…” Tom’s akumatization as Weredad flashed before his eyes, causing Adrien to mumble his words too lightly for the man to hear.
“Excuse me, son. I couldn’t hear that last part!” Tom smiled.
“I said…” The words were lost once more in the bustle of the bakery.
“Just a little bit louder, Adrien!”
“I was hoping to walk Marinette to school!” Adrien yelled.
Tom inhaled and Adrien flinched, unsure of how the man would react after the absolute trainwreck that was brunch with Chat Noir.
“Sabine, did you hear that?!” Tom called across the bakery, his arm snaking around Adrien’s shoulder and holding the boy closer to him like one would a son. “Adrien is walking our daughter, Marinette, to school!” His expression was practically blissful as he called to his wife, “pack up one of everything!” He swiveled back to Adrien, his face filled with so much genuine glee that Adrien almost thought that he should be the one selling happiness on billboards instead of the blond. “Now you go up there and, no matter what she says or how grumpy she may seem, wake Marinette up. I’m sure she’ll be delighted to see you once she comes to.”
**********************
The light blue light of early morning streamed in through Marinette’s windows when Adrien entered her room, providing just enough light for him to get up her staircase without hassle and sit at the edge of her bed. Still, even with the dip of his body sitting on her mattress the girl did not move, her eyes still shut tight to the morning.
Marinette released a small sigh as her body flipped his way, her feet seeking the warmth of his legs as she nestled in sweetly to her bed. Her long eyelashes fluttered only once as her knees raised back into the fetal position, murmuring words softly to herself. It would be easy to watch her, but it wasn’t exactly his place, and Adrien currently had a deadline to fulfill.
“Marinette~,” he cooed, setting a hand down on her waist to shake her gently. “Wake uuuuuup.”
“Mbleg,” Marinette responded.
“Marinetteeeee,” he tried again.
“Nuh-bluh,” she said, half-asleep.
He held back the chuckle that tickled the back of his throat, his voice teasing as he continued, “Marinette, it’s Adrien Agreste.”
“Nuh.”
“I’m here to walk you to school.”
“Un-mn.”
He rolled his eyes with a grin, allowing his side to fall against the bed as he faced her, his body filling in all the spaces where hers curved. With his face just inches from hers, he leaned forward, pressing his forehead against hers momentarily before enacting his evil plan.
Puckering his lips, he grabbed her shoulders and, taking advantage of the short distance but never fully touching her, blew a gust of air up her nose.
Marinette’s eyes flew open and she sprang back, screaming, “AH!” And then, noticing Adrien, she screamed again, “AAAAH!” Her hand slapped down on his shoulder as her screaming stopped, once, twice, and again; her eyes scrutinizing him as if she was worried he’d bite her or something.
Adrien flinched at the contact, but couldn’t help but laugh, “Marinette!”
“Adrien!” She finally acknowledged, her jaw immediately falling open. “It’s you! You’re in my bed! Now! With me!” Her eyes widened, “Oh my god, I just hit you.”
“Your parents sent me to wake you up,” he explained.
“They sent you to wake me up?” Marinette repeated, her eyes drifting down from him to her pillow. Her mouth stretched wide as she tried to paint a distracting smile, immediately grabbing the pillow near Adrien that she’d previously been resting on and flipping it over, as if he hadn’t just seen her drooling seconds before. “I mean, that’s just-- wow, what an occasion, you waking me up and all.”
Adrien nodded, “Yeah, I was just in the neighborhood picking up pastries, can’t beat one of your father’s croissants, and then I thought, maybe I should walk with Marinette to school today?” He twinkled at her, adding innocently, “if you want to, that is.”
It was adorable when she was awestruck. “Walk? With you?” Adrien nodded and there it was, a deep blush that Marinette had likely been holding back. “Let me just get dressed, and then we’ll…” She nodded to herself as if affirming this was real before springing to her feet. Taking in Adrien with even wider eyes, she looked between him and her bed, only seeming to inhale and never exhale. “You stay here. I’ll get dressed but, you stay here,” she stated, and it hit him that she was obviously afraid that he’d disappear into thin air.
“I’ll stay here, right here, on your bed, and I’ll wait for you. Okay?” He chuckled.
“Okay,” she finally exhaled, casting him a nervous look as she approached her stairs. He beamed at her in return and she immediately looked down, her face a ruby red as she disappeared down the stairs.
"...Don’t like Adrien anymore,” he muttered as she disappeared, rolling onto his back to grin even wider at the ceiling. “Right,” he laughed.
MLB NY
Oh my god it’s been so long since I posted smth. But I’m honestly so happy to have MLB again in our lives!! I have really good comments but also some criticism, so be aware.
Beware: NY spoilers below!
First of all, I think we can all agree on how much we are gonna miss SAMG :( I mean, the quality was more than amazing.
Wth is going on with everyone’s voices? My theory is that they asked the actors to change their voice to a movie-quality like one? idk, I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either.
I am seriously confused with CN? Like, why is he giving away flowers when he is supposed to have a gf?
Although I like the foreshadowing of going from:
“I already know you’re the best partner ever, Cat Noir”
to
“well, I can’t trust you anymore, can I?”
I am also confused with Marinette? In the S3 finale we saw her so sure (although bittersweet) about wanting to listen to Luka’s song. And now she is back again to being crazy again about Adrien? I mean, I get it, she is trying to move on and it can’t be easy. But we saw her throughout S3 talking like a normal human being to Adrien and, honestly, I was expecting to see more of that dynamic.
MISS BUSTIER IS HAVING A BABY, PEOPLE. I really really really hope we’ll see a lot of the Bustier baby in the future :3
Also, poor Miss Mendeleiev, imagine being stuck the whole trip with all the kids who talk shit about you.
I’m also happy that we got a break from Lila. She would have made things more interesting, but also way more complicated.
Wait wait wait. Is Nathalie sharing a bed with Gabriel?!?!?! If you look closely, she is completely on the left side of the bed and there is even an unused pillow on the right side. And when Gabriel is in NY we can see that she is in the middle of the bed.
OMG MY BEAUTIFUL SHIP
Kagami kissed Adrien’s upper lip and my heart exploded. It’s no mere speculation to say that they are together. Like together, together. (twilight reference)
“In flower language red symbolises passion”
Gabriel puts a red rose on Emilie’s coffin.
My other beautiful ship
Luka is the most supportive, most amazing, most incredible guy, ever. I love him and honestly, Marinette does not deserve him in her current state. But at least, they are honest about each other’s feelings and I appreciate that.
Don’t get me wrong, I also LOVE Adrinette. But I want them to be ready.
Ughhhhh why did you change seats, Marinette?!?!?! I don’t like this regression.
I really really want to see them interact normally.
Beautiful Adrinette hug.
The new heroes are so amazing I can’t even!!! Uncanny Valley is a baby we have to love and protecc. I understand why Thomas loves her so much!!
Why are they talking to their kwamis in the open?
I’m thinking Adrien hasn’t told Nino about the whole Kagami thing bc otherwise I don’t get why is Nino trying to get Adrien to cheat?
Sparrow is so cool!
Although I don’t get why they have to be looking after the French students.
“Those two are made for each other”
OF COURSE THEY ARE MADE FOR EACH OTHER BUT THEY NEED TO GROW UP A LOT BEFORE THEY CAN BE TOGETHER
Sabrina my baby is getting the attention and love she deserves and I couldn’t be happier for her.
The rooftop party is what I wanted to see!! Everyone looks so happy and free. It’s so nice that we got to see all those interactions between them.
Adrinette moonlight dance to fill our souls.
But also, Julerose are dancing too to the Romance song!!!!
Also Sabrina and her guy!!
Important detail for the future:
Gabriel is riding (and transforming) in a car with the plates “Tsurug-1″.
Tomoe Tsurugi knows!!!
What does this mean? Does she know about Emilie too?
My theory is that she, Audrey, Emilie and Gabriel were heavily involved with the miraculous in the past based on what we have seen in Animaestro, Festin and here.
I’ll leave it here. I’m terribly tired and have a really long day tomorrow.
But overall, this was a great episode/movie and I think it beautifully sets the stage for what we’ll see in the future. Where I hope we’ll have answers to our questions.
AU Yeah August Day Three - Cruise Ship
Ahhh, this fill took longer than I would’ve liked... probably because how do without making it fairly obvious. Meanwhile realizing you have a lot of prince/pauper ships...
Rating: G Genre: General Pairing(s): Adrinette Summary: Meet-cute story. When her Maman and Papa have to take a vacation, Marinette finds herself on a cruise for the first time. During which, she meets a boy… Warning: No beta! No powers in this AU!
It’s mandatory that all employee’s take vacation time.
Due to this policy, Tom and Sabine’s Boulangerie Patisserie had to close during Marinette’s break from school. Of course, if it was going to be a bother, they wouldn’t have timed it so perfectly. Early in the year, her parents had been talking to her, discussing potential vacation ideas from going to visit relatives to just taking a short drive around into other countries only to find out extended family chipped in on another vacation plan all together.
Marinette had never been on a cruise. Maybe one day in the future, she’d considered taking a river cruise, but a trans-Atlantic was not really something on her mind. Sure, they looked awesome from her research, but it just seemed so… much to put it politely.
And when they set off, she was right.
So much to do, so many people, and she wanted to give her parents their time alone both in and out of the cabin. Quickly, she found herself wandering about the decks, too nervous to join in on group activities and feeling very alone because of that. At least there was breakfast and dinner with her parents, but otherwise, she just… didn’t know.
It was during her walk through the shopping area that things changed though. Suddenly crashed into, she went down with a rather loud yelp and gasp as they landed upon her, air pushed out of her lungs.
“O-Oh geez! I’m so sorry, miss!”
And almost as immediately as she was down, she was pulled back up to her feet. The person – boy – that ran into her was not facing her, but looking back, his blonde coifed in her face before he turned around. Marinette felt her eyes widen, shocked by just how green this boy’s eyes were… and feeling like she’d seen him somewhere before.
“Come out come out wherever you aaaare!”
Marinette raised her eyes at the young woman’s voice just echoing over the loud crowd – how the heck? And why did she recognize it?
Before her, the young man’s green eyes managed to grow bigger. The boy stared at her, pleadingly so. “Hide me, please. We’ve been here ever since breakfast and while I don’t mind the shopping, that’s excessive…”
“Yeah it is,” Marinette answered, bewildered at what sort of person could be shopping for so long and apparently skipping lunch. Probably no one she wanted to meet and have to chance acknowledging for the days still remaining on their trip. Holding out a hand, she took the boy’s into her own before turning and fleeing, dragging him initially until he picked up on the motion.
They booked it from the stores all the way to the pools before slowing down. Marinette was panting, but the boy seemed just slightly out of breath – likely the athletic type. She probably should’ve figured that from his lean stature, but it was in the moment – and his eyes were really distracting.
“Thank you for that… She’s not planning to come to the pool until tomorrow,” he said once she’d recovered enough breath.
“Really? Good. I dunno if I want to face a girl capable of shouting over a crowd,” she retorted, blinking when he snorted.
“That’s honestly nothing. Still, you’re right about not wanting to face her after that.”
He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “This was supposed to be a vacation… I just wish she understood that I’d like to do more than just shopping…”
“Have you told your girlfriend what you’d like to do?” she asked.
She watched him as his face fell, and then he proceeded to awkwardly laughing. “She’s not my girlfriend… She’s a childhood friend that usually joins my family on vacation. And yeah, I tried, but she’s not really up for trying any of the live shows or going to the movies. Open water, open sales… you understand.”
“Ah? Not really…” Marinette rubbed her bicep, feeling her cheeks warm up. “It’s my first time on a cruise. Everything seems interesting, but… it’s kinda awkward doing it alone.”
“Oh, you’re alone?”
She shook her head quickly. “That’s not what I meant. I’m here with my family too, but I thought my parents should spend it together. Doesn’t help I’ve been too nervous to talk to anyone else here…”
Silence fell between them, Marinette rubbing her arm a little harder until her eyes strayed back to meet the boy’s. She was surprised to see his gleaming now, and a wide smile stretched across his face. “Hey, what if we went together? I’d love to do anything this ship offers – er, within our age limit of course.”
Frozen, her eyes still locked with his, she didn’t even manage an answer before his hand was before her.
“My name’s Adrien. What’s yours?”
“Huh? O-Oh…” She didn’t mean to stutter, but he just caught her off-guard. Raising her hand to take his, wow, his skin was soft. “I’m Marinette.”
“Marinette?” His eyes seemed to twinkle from the way his smile rose to them. “Nice to meet you!”
It was at that moment Marinette knew, she was in trouble.
Adrinette April 2019
I’m taking part! I’m going to try to post each day. Setting a goal for myself. I’m going to try to post in order if I can. I’m going to post here first, as early in the day as I can. Then in the evening I will also post to my fanfiction and AO3 accounts. So let’s get started!!! (My daughter is the artist and I think i’m going to have to get a smaller rez version.)
Day 1 - Just friends.
Adrien sat on a bench in the park and watched Marinette chase Alya around, trying to get her phone to erase a picture Alya had taken. Nino, sitting beside him, let out a chuckle.
“That is just too dang cute,” Nino commented as Alya was just standing there holding her phone really high in her hand while Marinette jumped trying to reach it. Both boys chuckled.
Adrien felt happy right then. Here he was, sitting with people that he knows care about him. The 4 of them had grown close over the past 3 years.
Nino was the best bud he could ever ask for. Alya was brash and pulled him into her escapades whether he wanted to go along or not. Marinette would always at least try to keep Alya on track and make sure everyone was having fun.
Alya caught his interest again as she squealed when Marinette got close to grabbing the phone, almost toppling them both over.
“Oops, just missed,” Alya yelled as she pulled away from Marinette and let the poor girl stumble, getting close to falling on the ground. Marinette saved herself at the last moment and righted herself as Alya started to run over to the playground. Marinette gave chase, both yelling and squealing as they ran around.
Alya suddenly darted away from Marinette and started running around the boys on the bench.
“Alya, please erase it! I look horrible!” Marinette pleaded while running after Alya.
“Only if you get it girl,” Alya taunted back.
As Marinette rounded the bench in front of Nino she tripped on his slightly stuck out foot. She fell forward and landed across Adrien. Both of them were shocked for a moment. “Mari, are you alright?” Nino asked.
Marinette started to babble, “Yes, yes, it's ok, Adrien's ok, I'm ok!” she blurted out as she tried to push herself off Adrien. All she succeeded to do though was push against Adrien's shoulder too hard and topple them both from the bench. They lay on the ground, arms and legs tangled. Adrien felt a small blush creep across his cheeks while he noted that Marinette went a bright pink.
Alya and Nino burst out laughing.
“Oh, I gotta get this,” Alya said as she quickly took a picture. Nino was about to take one himself when his phone rang.
He stepped away from them to take the call. Alya helped a blushing Marinette up, then a grinning Adrien up.
Nino turned back to them. “That was my dad, Chris's group is getting let out early and he needs me to go get him and take him home. Alya, want to come with me?” he asked.
“If Mari doesn't mind?” She glanced over and Marinette shook her head. “Sure, we can play some video games too. Chris likes that dancing one we do, right?”
Nino nodded. Alya grabbed Nino's arm and waved bye to Marinette and Adrien. Saying she'd text Marinette later.
“W-well,” Marinette stammered. “I guess we should go too?”
“Sure,” Adrien said. “I actually managed to convince my father that I needed an afternoon off and that's how I have the whole of today free. Told him that I was feeling a little tired and I need a mental break as we had just finished up some big projects at school. I was a little surprised that he let me take the whole day off.”
Marinette was glad. She knew it was her's and the others influence that Adrien was finally standing up to the ridiculous schedule his father imposed on him.
Marinette grabbed her purse from under the bench and motioned to Adrien to follow her. “We could go back to my place and play some video games too, if you want to that is, unless you want to go somewhere else. We could go to a movie or window shopping. We could even go to a museum or the zoo...” She was starting to babble again. She trailed off, wishing that she could keep it under control.
Adrien chuckled, “Video games at your place sounds fine. Could we get some treats from your parents while we play?” He asked as his eyes lit up. He guided her out of the park and towards her home above the bakery.
Marinette stuck out her tongue, “Like they wouldn’t insist anyway.” She rubbed the back of her head with one hand. They walked towards her home, each in comfortable silence.
Adrien liked that over the years Marinette had managed to open up towards him. He had originally thought that the gum incident all those years ago might have ruined any chance they had at becoming friends. It turned out that it really wasn't a problem and after years of hanging out together the stammering and panicked movements that she always used to do started to disappear.
They had managed to spend lots of time together on their own or with Alya and Nino. He felt close to her. She had told him in detail about her dreams of being a designer, showed him lots of outfits she drew. He even got to help her with a jacket she wanted to create. When he saw how good it had come out he had encouraged her to enter it into a fashion competition. It wasn't one of his fathers, but he encouraged her to enter those too. She won many of them and he was glad that he was there to help her celebrate every win, and offer support for those she did loose. He wanted to be there for her with whatever life threw her way.
Marinette had been thinking the same types of thoughts as they walked back to her place. That first year she wouldn't have even been able to ask him over, let alone actually think of asking. As they got to know each other she realized that she had put him on a little bit of a celebrity pedestal. She still loved him, but it had mellowed to a steady flame.
He had finally told her about his feelings towards his father a little bit. She didn't think she knew all of it but she could better understand why he tried to please him so much sometimes. Knowing that he was just as human as her is what had dulled the intensity of her love for him. While she still wanted to be more to him, she was happy just being there to support him when his schedule took a lot out of him, mentally or physically.
They got back to the bakery and let her folks know that they were going to play video games in her room. Sabine loaded up a plate of cookies, croissants, that cheese bread Adrien seemed to like, and other pastries and watched them go upstairs.
Tom and Sabine looked wistfully between each other, each wondering when they were going to become more than 'Just Friends.'
I hope you enjoyed! Please let me know if there are any other tags I should use with this.
Chapter Eighteen - Adrinette April - Notes for You
Day 18 - In the Rain
Read it on A03? –> [ Click Here ]
Marinette face planted into the book that sat in front of her, the information that was stored in it had not transferred into her memory, there hours worth of research had in her eyes been wasted. She was frustrated with herself, she hated the fact that they hadn’t progressed in any direction, she groaned and tried to read the words on the page again but quickly gave up. A warm cup of coffee magically appeared in front of her, looking up she saw Adrien had returned, she mouthed him a quick thank you and almost downed half of it. He pulled the book she was trying and failing to memorise from her.
“This book is boring Mari”
“I know but we need the information it contains within its papery… pages…” she yawned and took another sip of the warm coffee.
“Maybe we should leave, you’re falling asleep here and I really don’t feel like carrying you home. Is this the only book we need?”
She shook her head and lifted the small stack that sat on the floor beside her onto the table, his eyes eye’s widened a little in surprise but pulled the stack towards him to look through them. Marinette stood up from the uncomfortable plastic chair to pack away her notebook and tablet, she struggled to fight back another yawn.
“I’ll go up and check these out, okay?”
She nodded her head, “I’ll pack away your things for you, It’ll take the librarian a bit to scan them through so I’ll meet you at the counter.”
“Okay,” he picked up the small but heavy stack and headed down the stairs to the checkout desk.
She watched him head down the steps before she headed over to his side and started to carefully pack the tablet, notebook and pencil case into the small over the shoulder bag. She threw on her own backpack before swinging his back onto her shoulder, she put the two coffee cups back into the cardboard travel tray and headed towards the front desk, the librarian as predicted was still scanning the books though, she was around their age and by the look of her, she was crushing hard on the blond model that was in front of her. Marinette paused to observe from a distance as Adrien tried to dismiss the girls poor attempts at flirting with him, unfortunately the girl didn’t seem to take no as an answer, Marinette shook her head and casually started to walk over to the two, she had gone through this all before when some of Adrien’s fangirls got a little too much for him at times but this time around she couldn’t shake the small amount of jealousy that was slowly rising and bubbling its way at her insides. She put on a smile as she got closer, she could now hear the extremely poor attempts the girl was making and Adrien started to look uncomfortable, this called for drastic action.
“Hey?” you ready?” she asked cutting through whatever the girl was saying, she casually draped her right arm over his shoulder sending the girl a clear and direct message ‘back off he’s mine,’ “We better hurry or we’ll miss that movie you promised,” she could feel the girl drilling angry holes into the back of Marinette’s skull.
He quickly caught on and nodded his head, “Right… Sorry Mari, I almost forgot,” he picked up the stack of books of the counter, the girl mumbled something under her breath beyond Marinette’s range of hearing as she scanned the last book though, Adrien went to take the book but Marinette beat him to it taking it from her, she murmured a quick thank you to the girl and heading towards the door before the girl could tell them the time frame the two had to return the books in.
The two stepped out into the dreary street, a blast of cold air hit the two causing Marinette to shiver, there was a distinct smell of rain in the air, “you okay?” she queried.
Adrien turned to her slipping his arm off of her shoulder, “I’m fine it’s just… she wouldn’t take no as answer,” he placed his bag on the ground to stuff the library books into it, “I really didn’t know how I was going to get out off that one,” he replied with a chuckle, “I guess I have to thank you for- for being you. Again.”
“It’s no problem. Hey, wait… where is my share of the books, I’m not going to let you do all the reading.”
“you’ve got one in your hands,” he replied indicating to the small book in her hands that she had taken from the librarian.
“Adrien…” she whined, “I have the right mind to hit you with it if you don’t hand me at least half of those,” she jokingly threatened.
“Sure, I’d like to see you try Marinette, you do have a broken arm after all.”
Marinette shot him an angry glare in response.
“Okay, Okay, turn around I’ll put a few in your bag.”
“Half,” she insisted.
“Alright, Alright, I’ll put half of them in for you,” he tugged on the zippers of her backpack opening it, she felt it grow heavier on her shoulders as he pilled more books into it, she handed him the book she was holding over her shoulder, he took it and placed it in he backpack with all the others.
“Thank you,” she replied.
“It’s no problem although we should probably head home as much as I would love to see a movie with you, I really don’t want another week of an overloaded schedule as punishment but maybe… maybe we can see that movie tomorrow?”
“Sure, we can see that one you keep posting in the group chat then.”
“Oh… Okay.”
His face had turned a light shade of red, Marinette let out a giggle, “I Love t when you get all flustered, you get all shy, it’s cute.”
“Mari, stop making fun of me,” he whined playfully, “besides, I’m just not used to you flirting back yet, that's all it is.”
“Sure,” she replied not completely believing his words, “Here,” she said handing him his cup from the cardboard carrier.
“I almost forgot about this.”
She smiled and removed her own from the carrier before tossing the small flimsy piece into the nearby bin, “Thank you for the coffee, I’ll pay you back when I get home.”
“Don’t worry about it, we were both falling asleep at that table.”
Adrien started heading down the steps and Marinette took that as her cue to follow, she was following closely behind him, white flashes of light lit up the dark grey skies above them, they both instinctively picked up their paces to try and beat the storm. Adrien’s pace was a lot faster than her’s she was struggling to keep up with him when a few drops of rain started to fall around them, those drops quickly became a steady flow, she squealed as the pouring rain started to soak through her clothes, Adrien slowed down enough to grab hold of her hand so she wouldn’t get left behind. They could see the looming structure of the school a few meters in front of them, they both seemed to have the same Idea as they ran for the tiny amount of shelter it provided, the two paused beneath the small shelter to catch their breaths and to wait out the storm. The storm grew heavier around them, it made loud clanks and bangs on the small tin roof above them cutting off any possibility of conversation between them, Marinette wanted to try and say something over it but everything she wanted to say died in her throat so she stood there hyperaware of the fact that they were still holding hands.
“I kinda wish I had brought an umbrella…” she only just heard him over the pattering on the tin roof.
“I have one,” she practically yelled, “It’s in my locker, unfortunately.”
“should we… sneak in?”
She shook her head, “No, The cleaning staff might still be here, we’d get caught.”
“I can go!” The small Kwami piped up from Marinette’s purse, before phasing through it to float in front of the two.
“Are you sure?” Marinette replied.
Tikki nodded her head and phased through the large green oak wood door, Marinette was going to protest but her Kwami was already gone.
“She’s sweet,” Adrien said his eyes still on the door.
“You’d like her, your both so much alike,” she responded turning her gaze back to the falling rain, a few loud claps of thunder echoed across the rooftops of Paris, she became mesmerised by the pattern of falling rain, she could see Adrien’s gaze was upon her, she could feel the love and adoration behind them, she tried not to think about it but her own cheeks were betraying her as they started to glow a plan shade of red, she glanced over to Adrien to find that he too had a pale shade of red across his cheeks, she smiled at him before she had to avert her gaze to hide the ever growing shade of red her cheeks were turning.
Tikki was their saving grace, she silently appeared between the two holding the black umbrella, Marinette quickly took it from her, whispering a small thank you to her before she dove head first into her pink purse giving the two Miraculous wielders some alone time. Adrien raised his hand out into the rain feeling each and every drop before he decided to step out into it, Marinette extended the umbrella to shelter him from some of the pouring rain.
“It was raining like this when I fell in love with you… And it was right here.”
“It’s the same umbrella too.”
“It’s funny how things work out, doesn’t it?”
“Yeah…”
A large clap of thunder echoed overhead, “Thank you, for letting me-“
“I know,” she shivered as a wave of cold air hit her, he took the large jacket off and gently wrapped it around her bare shoulders to try and keep the bite of the cold stormy winds.
“I should escort you home My Lady, before the really rain sets in.”
“I think that would best Minou.”
Frozer Trailer
Analysis of the first few seconds. Spoilers below! (duh)
During Glaciator, Chat Noir confessed his feelings. Ladybug told him he’s her partner and her friend, but there is “another” boy. CN understands, respects that and take his leave decently. He still is a bit hopeful that maybe someday, LB will love him the same way he loves her, but still value and will put their friendship first.
Knowing that, when watching the Frozer trailer, the first sequence showed CN/Adrien as acting oddly OC from what we know. He wouldn’t jeopardize his secret identity especially not to redo a confession to someone who has already turned him down. Because that what it looks like but I solely based on the flower. Speaking of the which...
Most fans have notice it, the flower suddenly disappears upon CN’s destransformation. Another thing that is absent is Plagg. Those two elements were enough for people to speculate it is a dream, more precisely Marinette’s. And I agree with that theory. There is another element in the background that supports it : Adrien’s perfume add.
In visual storytelling, you adjust the decor, the background. In 3D animation, it can be more tricky because backgrounds are sets once modeled and rarely change which it’s why for emotional charge scene they either try to pick a location that has a meaning (Carapace’s debut at the Arc de Triomphe) or that has a previous scene that occured there (the fountain photoshoot scene during Stormy Weather vs the Adrinette fountain scene during Gorizilla). But that doesn’t mean props cannot be added/removed at will. And the add panels are props that has to be placed wherever and whenever they are wanted.
The roofs of Paris are part of ML superhero imagerie. There is privacy, isolation. It’s unusual for civilians to hang on building roofs. Just think of the sequence of Rena Rouge following LB on Paris roofs during Sapotis or CN and LB casually hanging and discussing about Mr. Damoclès’ case in Dark Owl.
The add however, or any reminiscent of it, alludes to Gorizilla events. So, for an Adrien’s perfume add panel to be subtely put inside the roof shot (also not there is only ONE add panel), it has to be wanted, not filling the space.
The perfume add have way more relevance to Marinette than to Adrien. Just compare their attitude upon seeing the add at the movie theater during Gorizilla. So, here we have a scene where in the background, there is the “dreamy” version Adrien (depicted has an angel with the white clothes and the feathers) and in front of Ladybug, there is Chat Noir who she respects and trusts, but who she knows of his flaws. So Adrien revealing himself is as if showing her “here’s two sides and here’s the coin”.
Marinette has already demonstrated a wild and fertile imagination when it comes to potential scenarios... Remember Stormy Weather? Copycat? The Mime? Puppeteer? Volpina? Gigantitan? This rumored dream sequence of CN detransforming to Adrien could fit in that mind of hers.
So, either it is a mashed up of different memories OR even better, Marinette is slowly realizing that CN might be Adrien. After all, CN wasn’t his usual self during Collector. And what about all those times CN was missing in action when Adrien was chased/attacked by some Akumas notably Riposte and Gorizilla.. Not to mention Alya’s comment upon seeing Adrien wearing a CN’s costume during Frighteningale, etc.
Marinette has grown remarkably as a character this season. And this affects both her interactions with Adrien and CN and she might be starting to witness some extensions to both personalities along with their similarities.
Marinette can still be in denial though, but what this sequence can tell us is her subconscious is compiling the coincidences as they accumulate.
EDIT
That or it is really Adrien’s "dream/vision” after he has found out the boy Ladybug loves and mentionned about in Glaciator is actually his civilian self, so Adrien may be thinking of confessing again but by revealing himself this time. Ladybug cares a lot about her secret identity, and CN respects that, but on his end, he wouldn’t mind for Ladybug to know his. And I know I’ve said Adrien seemed OoC, but at the same time, he can be rash and impulsive. But to this extent? I would be disappointed. That’s also why I prefer it to be Marinette’s imagination even though the rest of the trailer don’t seem to support it.
Face to FaceTime
Summary: Tired of being isolated, Adrien reaches out to his friend in hopes of finding some comfort late at night. Adrinette <3
The sound of loud rumbling thunder fills the emptiness of his expansive bedroom. Adrien blows against his windowpane and draws a frowny face on the glass. Once again, his father confined Adrien to his room. He hasn’t seen his friends in what felt like forever. Normally, he’d use his isolation as a chance to escape as Chat Noir but with the storm raging outside, transforming was out of the question. Adrien looked to his small kwami friend and found him sleeping on top of a round of cheese.
Typical.
Adrien looked at the clock on his phone and it read 11:56 PM. He knew it was late but he decided to try to call Nino on FaceTime. Adrien stares at Nino’s smiling picture and it stares back at him as his phone rings and rings but Nino doesn’t answer.
Dejected, Adrien drags his feet as he shuffles towards his bed and with an ungraceful flop lays atop the blankets staring blankly at the ceiling. How many times has he looked up at this very ceiling and stared at the bleak nothingness that the white paint gives off? Rolling over, Adrien looks over to his nightstand and sees his Marinette lucky charm. He grabs it and holds it over his head as he looks at it. Boy does he feel unlucky right about now. Rolling the bead between his fingers, an idea pops into his head. He recalls Alya berating Marinette on several occasions for staying up so late working on her designs. Maybe the designer is still up. It is Saturday night. Plus, after the events with Gorizilla a month back, they exchanged numbers and have texted on and off since. Staring at her contact picture, Adrien decides to call her. Pressing the FaceTime icon, Adrien waits for her to answer, the rings echoing loudly in his empty room.
The vibration of her phone wakes Marinette up from her impromptu nap at her sewing desk. Her hair is disheveled and she has scraps of fabric and loose thread stuck to her face. She answers the call without looking at who called her. She hears his voice before she can make out his face through her groggy eyes.
“Hey Marinette”
That woke her up. Marinette rubs away any leftover bleariness from her eyes and accidentally knocks her phone on the floor. She fumbles to get a firm grasp on it and promptly bumps her head on the underside of her desk.
“Ouuuch! A-Adrien calling me late ?! What are you calling at late- um I mean I mean it's uh kinda late aaand you're calling me?” She winced at her poor communication skills with her crush as she rubbed her head.
“Is it alright that I called you? I know it's kind of late…it's just my dad wouldn't let me leave the house again and with all of my photo shoots this week I missed school and I still had my extracurriculars. It feels like I haven't seen you guys in ages” His voice cracked from the emotion he was trying to suppress. “I really miss my friends and I miss hanging out with you, Nino, and Alya, y'know?”
This was a lot to process at 12 in the morning for a short-circuiting Marinette. Adrien Agreste considers her a close friend and specifically said he missed her. Well, her and his other friends, but still!! He called her! Marinette wanted nothing more than to freak out but she needed to keep it together for Adrien’s sake.
“ He’s feeling lonely and really needs a friend right now and that's what I’m gonna be,” she thinks to herself as she slaps her face between her palms, “ I can do this! ”
Adrien quirks an eyebrow at her antics but chalks it up to Marinette being Marinette.
“Y-yeah you can call me whenever you like! Just not like you know 4 in the morning or something or if I’m helping in the bakery or showering I won’t be able to answer…” Marinette’s eyes bugged once she realized what she just said. Embarrassment tinged her face and ears.
“Really?! That really means a lot to me, Marinette! Thanks!” He was relieved to know that he wasn’t bothering her and that she didn’t mind talking to him this late at night.
“You mean a lot to me” Marinette sighed.
“What was that?” Adrien asked.
“Oh uh um well I said...” Marinette was floundering. Did she just partly confess to her crush over FaceTime?! Should she hang up and pretend this never happened?
“ No!! Adrien called because he needs a friend! ” she reminded herself. With a deep breath, Marinette continued, “I said that you mean a lot to me. You’re my friend and it...it hurts to see you hurting”.
Adrien was taken aback by how sincere she was. Eyebrows knitted and mouth scrunched, Marinette looked like she had fire in her eyes. Her expression was oddly reminiscent of his partner against crime.
“But really, if you ever need a shoulder to lean on or if you need to vent, I’m all ears.”
“I’m all yours too if you want me to be,” Marinette thought to herself.
Adrien couldn’t believe how lucky he was to have such amazing friends, especially a friend like Marinette. It made him happy to think about that but it also pained him even more because he wanted nothing more than to be able to spend as much time with them as possible.
Adrien sniffled and fought back the urge to cry in front of his friend. He shifted his position on his bed from sitting up against his headboard to rolling onto his stomach and propping his chin on his pillow and put his phone against his headboard. Hopefully, the pressure of the pillow could be enough to keep the tears at bay.
Marinette could tell that Adrien was hurting and suppressing his emotions just because he was talking to her wasn’t healthy. Softly she suggested, “you can cry if you want Adrien. It's ok. Everyone needs to cry every now and again and afterward, you’ll feel much better. I know I do.”
He really has been feeling miserable lately. Yeah, it sucked that he’s been seeing his friends less and has had a more rigid schedule than usual but what hurt the most was that right when it seemed like he and his dad had gotten closer, his dad decided to put even more distance between himself and Adrien. They had watched his mother’s movie together and it felt like he had a dad again. But that didn’t last long at all. His dad pulled away and put even more distance between them leaving Adrien feeling more alone and isolated than before. He missed his mom. He missed having a dad who cared even if he didn’t show it that well.
Adrien’s breath shuddered as he inhaled as he began to cry. Face down in his pillow he cried away his feelings of helplessness and loneliness. He didn’t call Marinette just so she could watch him cry but like she said, he really needed this.
While Adrien had his cathartic release, Marinette was overcome with guilt. ‘Oh no! I made Adrien cry!!! How could I be so cruel?!” Marinette thought as she dragged her hands over her face. Biting her nails, she grabbed her phone and quietly made her way from her sewing station up to her loft and into her bed. Sparing a glance to the little bed that she made for Tikki, Marinette checked to see if the little kwami was asleep or not. Marinette couldn’t seek the kwami’s advice while she was FaceTiming with Adrien but having her near was calming. Tikki was in fact fast asleep. Marinette sighed. She was just gonna have to navigate this new situation by herself. Marinette nestled under her covers and set her phone against her kitty body pillow. A few minutes later, Adrien’s tears began to subside and his breathing became more regulated.
“Feeling better now?” Marinette asked. The whole time he was crying, Marinette wished that she could be with him in person and hold him. The thought made her face heat up but she really did wish that she could be there instead of on the other end of a phone.
With one last sniffle, Arien replied with a slightly raspy voice, “y-yeah”
“Hey, Adrien?” Marinette asked as she nervously bit her lip.
“Yes?”
“What do you get when you cross a lemon and a cat?” She asked as she looked down at her lap.
“Um, what?”
“A sour puss” Marinette had to admit that it was a pretty lame joke but she came up with on the spot so…
Adrien gave her a small smile as he chuckled softly.
“What do you call a cat that lives in an igloo?” Marinette asked with a smirk.
“What?”
“An eskimew” Marinette could honestly say that she was proud of herself for coming up with these jokes. It seemed like her kitty was rubbing off on her. Maybe that explained why she was only coming up with cat-related jokes.
At that, Adrien let out a louder laugh than before. “That was pretty cute.”
Marinette blushed and smiled to herself. She was happy that she could make Adrien smile.
“Can I tell a joke?” Adrien asked propping himself up on his elbows and he hugged his pillow.
“Sure”
“What’s a cat’s favorite way of keeping law & order?”
Marinette had a feeling that whatever Adrien was going to say, Chat would love it and eat it up.
“What?”
“Claw Enforcement”
Marinette was right. She grinned from ear to ear as she laughed thinking about how much of a field day Chat would have if he heard Ladybug say that joke.
“D-do you want to hear another one?” Marinette asked.
“I’d love to”
“Okay, I’ve got a good one.”
As Ladybug, Marinette pretended to be exasperated with her partner when he punned but she actually enjoyed them. She just didn’t tell him because he didn’t need another reason to have his ego fanned.
“How do cats end their fights?”
“How?”
“They hiss and make up,” Marinette said with a pleased smirk on her face as she mimicked a cat swiping their paw as she hissed and then made a kissy face. Who doesn’t like a good cheesy joke every once in a while? She wasn’t a stick in the mud.
Adrien seemed to really like that joke because he laughed so hard that he rolled out of bed. How that happened, Marinette had no clue. She was supposed to be the clumsy one. Adrien righted himself on the bed and thought to himself that he was in a much better mood than he was an hour ago.
Looking out his window, he noticed that the thunderstorm had blown itself out and was now a soothing sprinkle.
“I didn’t know that you were so well versed in the art of cat jokes, Marinette,” Adrien said with a relaxed expression. Gone was the storm that raged outside as well as within Adrien.
Marinette let out a small laugh “What can I say, I have a friend who likes to tell me cat jokes constantly and I guess they’ve rubbed off on me.”
Adrien wondered who this friend might be. He’d love to meet them and exchange notes.
They talked some more for another half hour. Marinette filled him in on the ongoings at school that he missed while he’s been gone. Max had brought Markov in again and had it play a game of basketball against Kim and the robot and boy had surprisingly tied, Alix debuted her graffiti art series at school in the main quad, and Rose and Juleka announced that Kitty Section would be performing for the upcoming open house. Adrien wished that he could have been there in person but it was nice to hear Marinette talk and fill him in. He told her about his latest modeling shoots and what his father’s new line was going to be like. At that, Marinette perked up and grabbed a nearby journal to take notes on what to expect. Adrien even mentioned that they would finally be debuting the bowler hat that Marinette designed and Marinette let out a sound of delight.
“Hey, Marinette?”
“Hmm?” Marinette looked up from her notebook to look at the blonde boy.
“Can we do this more often?”
“This? As in talk more?” Marinette asked as her heart skipping several beats.
“Well, that too. I like talking to you. I’m happy we’ve grown closer over the past few months. But I mean if I can’t make it to school or hang out with friends, that you’ll fill me in on what I missed?” Adrien asked with a sad smile.
Marinette really felt for this poor boy. How could his father be this overbearing to keep his only son basically a prisoner and keep him from things that brought him joy? She wished that she could do more but for now this would have to do.
“If that’s what you want, I’ll do my best” Marinette let him know with a reassuring smile.
“Hey, I can do you one better. I can FaceTime you while hanging out with friends or at school or something if you're not there if you’re not busy” Marinette suggested.
“That’s a great idea, Mari!!” Adrien exclaimed as he pumped his fists in the air. “You’re the best!”
Marinette gave him a smile as her stomach filled with butterflies.
“I’m happy I can help,” she says as she stifles a yawn. She glances at her clock on her nightstand and read the glowing numbers 1:40 AM.
Adrien noticed her yawn and also took a glance at the time.
“Woah, I didn’t realize how late it had gotten. It’s a good thing tomorrow is Sunday” he said as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes fighting back a yawn of his own.
“Thank you, Mari, for answering my call. I’m so lucky to have you as a friend” Adrien said as he gave her a heart-stopping smile. Marinette’s cheeks turned pink and she could feel them warm.
“You’re welcome, Adrien. I’m here for you anytime day or night.”
“I guess I’ll let you sleep now. Good night Marinette.”
“Good night, Adrien.”
They both stared at each other for another 20 seconds not wanting to be the first to end the call. Realizing that neither one was gonna do it, they both laughed. With another good night, Adrien reluctantly ended the call. Adrien plugged in his phone to charge and snuggled into his blankets. Closing his eyes, he drifted off to sleep after a few minutes.
Clutching her phone to her chest, Marinette laid awake in bed for another half hour heart still hammering thinking about what she had just done. She talked on the phone and FaceTimed with Adrien ( ADRIEN!!!) for almost two hours and barely stuttered.
“Alya’s gonna freak when she finds out,” Marinette thinks to herself. The sound of rain taps out a rhythm against her skylight and Marinette finds herself slowly drifting off to sleep phone still clutched to her chest.
The next morning Adrien was awakened by Nathalie at 7 AM. Despite only getting 5 hours of sleep, Adrien felt completely rested. In fact, he couldn’t remember the last time he had felt this rested. Even though it may mean that Adrien missed out on something yet again, he looked forward to his FaceTime calls with Marinette.
